- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And now, Handel on the News.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel.
- 0:23Speaker 3: It is a Wednesday morning hump day, September 9th, Handel
- 0:27Speaker 3: and the Morning Crew. A couple of changes this morning. First,
- 0:31Speaker 3: it's Michelle in for Ann. Michelle, if you've been listening
- 0:36Speaker 3: to this, or about Michelle, if you've been listening to
- 0:38Speaker 3: this show for, oh, I don't know, 30 years. Michelle
- 0:42Speaker 3: was the producer of this show for 25 years.
- 0:44Speaker 2: 26. 26 years.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It's that last year that I kind of forgot.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Me too.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Try to forget, man. See, there you go. 26 years. Wow, Michelle.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So you and I are one of the few people
- 0:57Speaker 3: that go that far back on this show, that's for sure.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yeah. No, it's... Things have changed quite a bit in
- 1:06Speaker 3: terms of the world of radio. I mean, podcasting has
- 1:09Speaker 3: come in... Streaming has come in very different ways for
- 1:13Speaker 3: people to listen today. But the good news is that
- 1:18Speaker 3: nobody's listening to this show anymore. And the even better
- 1:21Speaker 3: news is I have a contract, so there is nothing
- 1:24Speaker 3: anybody can do about it. Congratulations, Bill.
- 1:27Speaker 2: You betcha.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Okay, so there's a hello to Michelle. Neil, hello to you.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Depressing way to start the show. It always is.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I love starting the show in a depressing way. And
- 1:39Speaker 3: keep it going that way. And then ending the show
- 1:42Speaker 3: in a depressing way, which is what makes my life
- 1:45Speaker 3: so happy.
- 1:46Speaker 2: The Eeyore of talk radio, ladies and gentlemen. That's absolutely true. Oh, no.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Another day.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Another ratings book in which we're in the toilet. Oh, yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: All right. Kono, good morning. Good morning, Bill. Yeah, there
- 2:02Speaker 2: you go.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Amy. Hi, Bill.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Hi, we're all here. And that's, am I missing anybody? Oh, Will.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I don't see him on the screen. Will, are you there?
- 2:13Speaker 2: I am here, but I'm just not there because I
- 2:17Speaker 2: might have overslept a little. Oh, I wish. Okay. So
- 2:25Speaker 2: you'll go on the screen.
- 2:26Speaker 3: As I've said many times, our studios are in different
- 2:30Speaker 3: parts of the building. So we're all looking at each
- 2:33Speaker 3: other on a video screen. which actually is a better
- 2:36Speaker 3: way of doing it because I now can see everybody
- 2:39Speaker 3: and you can all see everybody because certain parts of
- 2:42Speaker 3: you can't see.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And I've gone through that before. Okay. Fair enough.
- 2:47Speaker 3: What else is going on before we start the show? Oh, Michelle,
- 2:50Speaker 3: you said the NFL season kicks off tonight.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Games tonight and tonight. Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Tonight it's the Seahawks versus the Patriots in Seattle. And
- 2:59Speaker 4: then tomorrow night is the Rams and the 49ers in Australia.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Go Niners.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So it's, yeah, when's the last time there was a
- 3:08Speaker 3: Wednesday night game?
- 3:09Speaker 5: It's the first time.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And there's Thursday night, obviously, Monday, Thursday, Sunday.
- 3:16Speaker 5: We're just going to have football every day.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much.
- 3:20Speaker 5: I think it's too much. I wish they'd go back
- 3:22Speaker 5: to just Sunday.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter how many games they had. You
- 3:26Speaker 3: remember when Monday.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Night football started?
- 3:28Speaker 3: And boy, that was, oh my God, who would ever
- 3:30Speaker 3: watch football on a Monday night?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Boy, that exploded. And then it became Thursday night. And
- 3:34Speaker 2: then there... dancing around and now it's, um, yeah. What
- 3:40Speaker 2: can I tell you?
- 3:41Speaker 3: And the NFL in deciding with the networks, uh, which
- 3:45Speaker 3: games are games of the week, which ones are going
- 3:47Speaker 3: to air, uh, nationally, they have to figure out which
- 3:51Speaker 3: games do we choose to air nationally. And sometimes there
- 3:55Speaker 3: are real players. There are contenders. I should have been
- 3:57Speaker 3: a contender. And sometimes a couple of teams that mean
- 4:01Speaker 3: absolutely nothing in terms of the It's like flu vaccines.
- 4:07Speaker 3: They have to guess which flu they're fighting. What?
- 4:11Speaker 6: How early before the game do our teams have to
- 4:16Speaker 6: go to Australia, places that far away with that massive
- 4:20Speaker 6: change in time and stuff to acclimate before they play
- 4:23Speaker 6: a game?
- 4:24Speaker 2: I have no idea. They're not flying in the day
- 4:27Speaker 2: of the game or something.
- 4:29Speaker 5: The Rams are. The Rams are on their way now.
- 4:32Speaker 5: They get in Thursday morning, you know, the time difference.
- 4:36Speaker 5: They get in Thursday morning. The 49ers have been there
- 4:38Speaker 5: for a few days already.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 5: So the Rams are going to try to apparently stay
- 4:44Speaker 5: on West Coast time or something.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's an interesting concept in terms of all these international
- 4:50Speaker 3: games where the NFL is making a concerted effort to
- 4:55Speaker 3: internationalize football. Saying that, yeah, of course it's money, but
- 5:01Speaker 3: it's also becoming an international sport. Uh, and, uh, that is, uh,
- 5:08Speaker 3: I guess sort of to, uh, be on the same plane,
- 5:11Speaker 3: if you will, uh, soccer, which of course will never happen.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Uh, but it's, uh, I guess there's more money.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Although I, once, uh, there was a fellow, I know
- 5:20Speaker 3: an expat, uh, who, uh, was in London, uh, at one,
- 5:24Speaker 3: at one of the very first, uh, NFL games that were, uh,
- 5:27Speaker 3: played in London a few years ago. And I had asked, boy,
- 5:31Speaker 3: you have these Londoners that are going.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And he said, no, no, it's all Americans. that's it
- 5:37Speaker 2: that's the people.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That go to these things the stands are filled with
- 5:40Speaker 3: americans oh okay so is it working who the hell
- 5:46Speaker 3: knows all right uh let's get some news here i
- 5:50Speaker 3: got got the news stock pack here new stack and
- 5:55Speaker 3: i got this going at that going i got that
- 5:57Speaker 3: story that story uh putting it all together here.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Oh no, please do. Oh no, I am. I am.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Take your time. No, I will.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I will. Uh, Jim Keeney, uh, is showing up at
- 6:09Speaker 3: eight o'clock.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Oh, and the weather.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Oh boy.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Isn't the weather been fun?
- 6:14Speaker 3: It is double hot and triple schvitz.
- 6:17Speaker 4: It's like a New York August. It is the reason
- 6:20Speaker 4: why we left.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's it's the jungle.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I don't know if you've ever been in the middle
- 6:26Speaker 3: of the jungle, uh, in, uh, during the rainy season,
- 6:30Speaker 3: because it's the same season all the way around, it
- 6:32Speaker 3: is this bad.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. This reminds me of all kinds of traveling places,
- 6:38Speaker 2: but not here. Yeah, really crazy. Okay, guys, you ready
- 6:40Speaker 2: to do it? Yep. Let's do it.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Time for Handle on the News with Amy, Neil, me,
- 6:47Speaker 3: lead story. Well, again, there's an orange plume that's above
- 6:55Speaker 3: City Hall, the whole neighborhood in La Habra. And we
- 6:59Speaker 3: don't know what caused it yet, do we?
- 7:03Speaker 4: They have not said what company or what caused it,
- 7:05Speaker 4: what kind of chemical it was, but it's since dissipated.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 5: It's gone now. It's still freaky to see a big
- 7:11Speaker 5: orange plume over City Hall.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah. It's even scarier to see one over the White House. Hello?
- 7:18Speaker 3: That's actually very funny. That's actually not bad at all
- 7:21Speaker 3: when you think about that, Neil.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Oh, stop. Okay, that wasn't that good, Neil.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Get it in before your TDS kicks in today.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I kind of liked it. Okay, moving on. Orange Plume,
- 7:33Speaker 2: big story, gone. Thank you.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It was over there anyways in La Habra, so who
- 7:37Speaker 3: cares unless you're in La Habra.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 7:41Speaker 5: The misery of the muggy weather. Yeah, we were just
- 7:44Speaker 5: mentioning it. Public health officials in L.A. County say they've
- 7:48Speaker 5: seen an increase in emergency room visits for heat-related illness
- 7:52Speaker 5: during heat waves over the summer months. The humidity, which
- 7:57Speaker 5: we're seeing, which we don't usually get, impedes the body's
- 7:59Speaker 5: ability to cool itself because the moist atmosphere doesn't allow
- 8:04Speaker 5: for sweat to evaporate as easily, causing you to continue
- 8:07Speaker 5: to get warmer. If humidity levels are lower, you're less
- 8:11Speaker 5: likely to succumb to heat-related illness.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, this is the remnants of Hurricane Maria that came
- 8:21Speaker 3: up on the west side of Baja. And we're getting
- 8:26Speaker 3: the bits and pieces of it. And man, it was horrible.
- 8:30Speaker 3: You know, I generally walk in the morning. And by
- 8:33Speaker 3: the way, for those of you that shower in the morning,
- 8:35Speaker 3: don't bother because go ahead and shower.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Step outside. You need to shower again.
- 8:42Speaker 6: That's the worst, that weird post-shower sweat you get on
- 8:47Speaker 6: a day.
- 8:48Speaker 2: And today's going to be, what, 99 in L.A.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it could hit 100 in Los Angeles proper.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fun.
- 8:56Speaker 3: With 100% humidity or 95 or 110% humidity, it's going
- 9:01Speaker 3: to be horrible. We'll probably talk to Jim about that
- 9:03Speaker 3: later on at 8.30 because that's obviously huge medical news.
- 9:09Speaker 6: A massive sinkhole at what looks like Nicolas Cage's Malibu mansion.
- 9:15Speaker 6: But it caused a bit of a stir yesterday. You've
- 9:17Speaker 6: got them declaring a local state of emergency yesterday after
- 9:20Speaker 6: this massive sinkhole opened.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Up in the driveway of a home.
- 9:25Speaker 6: And the thing is that not only does it threaten
- 9:29Speaker 6: that one area, but dozens of homes, cuts off access.
- 9:33Speaker 6: If you see it, there's Michelle sent a photo over.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It's massive.
- 9:36Speaker 6: It's got this porta potty or something must have had
- 9:40Speaker 6: working going on then or now. And just everything has
- 9:44Speaker 6: caved in in that area, estimated to be 25 to
- 9:48Speaker 6: 30 feet deep, about 30 feet wide by 60 feet long.
- 9:54Speaker 6: So and no confirmation, but they believe and said it
- 9:59Speaker 6: was Nicholas.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Cage's property. Well, of course it's going to be.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Well, first of all, let's wait for TMZ to come
- 10:07Speaker 3: out with a story because, of course, TMZ has more
- 10:09Speaker 3: credibility than the New York Times, the Washington Post, the
- 10:12Speaker 3: LA Times, and every major network combined. So when TMZ says.
- 10:17Speaker 2: It, it is so.
- 10:19Speaker 5: It's all Trump all the time in Dallas. I thought
- 10:24Speaker 5: you'd be excited about.
- 10:25Speaker 3: That, Bill.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I am. You know what?
- 10:28Speaker 3: I've stopped being excited about it, to be honest. Just
- 10:32Speaker 3: come up with something, and no matter how ridiculous it is,
- 10:35Speaker 3: it gets better.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 5: So it's a midterm convention, which has never been done before,
- 10:39Speaker 5: but it's being held in Dallas tonight and tomorrow, or
- 10:42Speaker 5: today and tomorrow. And President Trump's going to be the
- 10:45Speaker 5: star of the show. He's the headliner both nights of
- 10:47Speaker 5: the two-night event. It's being billed as Trumpapalooza. And Trump
- 10:53Speaker 5: has said the problem that we have is that they
- 10:57Speaker 5: say Trump does great when he's on the ballot. But
- 11:00Speaker 5: when he's not on the ballot, his people don't come
- 11:02Speaker 5: and they don't vote. So what I really want you
- 11:04Speaker 5: to do is pretend, please, that I'm on the ballot.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Now, let me ask you a question. All right.
- 11:15Speaker 3: You'll hear the president tonight and tomorrow night stand up
- 11:18Speaker 3: there at the podium and talk about how prices are down,
- 11:22Speaker 3: how oil is not at $ 100 a barrel, how inflation
- 11:28Speaker 3: is not affecting us, how the war in Iran has
- 11:32Speaker 3: already been won, and how many Republicans are going to
- 11:35Speaker 3: be standing on the chair, giving them a standing ovation,
- 11:39Speaker 3: standing on their chairs, cheering at the top of their lungs.
- 11:43Speaker 3: It's going to be very, very interesting. Boy, the Republicans
- 11:47Speaker 3: are scared to death of him. And how far can
- 11:51Speaker 3: they back him? Because do they say, yes, the president
- 11:54Speaker 3: is right. You're not paying more for gasoline. Or as
- 12:00Speaker 3: soon as the war is over, it's going to drop
- 12:01Speaker 3: to under two dollars a gallon. OK, just what can
- 12:07Speaker 3: I tell you? Michelle just sent me a story that
- 12:10Speaker 3: I didn't even know about the president. That right after 9-11,
- 12:14Speaker 3: he said he was at the 9-11 site working with
- 12:18Speaker 3: firefighters and first responders just a few days afterwards and
- 12:21Speaker 3: was digging up bodies and helping the first responders.
- 12:27Speaker 2: That's right. What? That's right, Mr. President. You certainly were.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Is that for real? For real.
- 12:33Speaker 3: For real.
- 12:35Speaker 1: For real.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I don't think he said he was digging a body.
- 12:38Speaker 2: No, not digging a body, but he said he was there.
- 12:40Speaker 4: He was bringing some builders down there. He said he
- 12:43Speaker 4: brought construction crews down. And that they had to carry
- 12:45Speaker 4: him out because things were unsafe.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And then he said he never ran so fast in
- 12:50Speaker 3: a couple of interviews.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 3: So I threw in, you know, I hate when you
- 12:56Speaker 3: correct me. You know, when I exaggerate, don't do that.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Just say you're absolutely right.
- 13:02Speaker 4: You know what?
- 13:02Speaker 2: You're absolutely right, Bill. Gas is now.
- 13:05Speaker 3: $ 46 a gallon. That's absolutely true. And when I say
- 13:10Speaker 3: inflation is at 80%.
- 13:12Speaker 2: A year, you go, that's right, Bill. It's at 80%.
- 13:15Speaker 3: This story out of New York Times, by the way,
- 13:21Speaker 3: that he was involved in going. Yeah, he was there
- 13:24Speaker 3: a couple of days after. He was a private citizen,
- 13:26Speaker 3: by the way. I don't know how private citizens got
- 13:28Speaker 3: onto the site. He's a Trump man.
- 13:32Speaker 2: He owned New York at the time. Yeah, that's true.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I think, was he building around there? But I think
- 13:36Speaker 2: he did have a construction project going on.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Oh, I'm sure he did.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 5: He always had some kind of project.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And he was a Democrat back then, right? Not after, no.
- 13:46Speaker 2: He was a Democrat, I think, in the 80s. They
- 13:47Speaker 2: would have let him ride in. Yes, of course they
- 13:50Speaker 2: would have. Or a Democrat. Moving on.
- 13:53Speaker 6: So, as Bill has been champing about, oil crossed the
- 13:58Speaker 6: $ 100 a barrel threshold this morning after fresh rounds of
- 14:02Speaker 6: strikes there in the Middle East.
- 14:04Speaker 2: You know how long it's been? It's been since July.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Wow.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah, this war continues on.
- 14:13Speaker 3: It's been about two months since we had that kind
- 14:15Speaker 3: of fight. Iran is saying, too bad, we're going for it.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Now it's a game of chicken. Who is going to
- 14:20Speaker 3: win this one?
- 14:22Speaker 2: Bomb them, take the oil. Well, we're already doing that
- 14:25Speaker 2: with Venezuela. We'll rename Iran to Iran to America.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Though the word Trump has to be put in there,
- 14:35Speaker 3: but you're right. That's another story of- Trumpville.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Trumpville, yes. Moving on.
- 14:43Speaker 5: It was the beyond part, apparently, that he got stuck on.
- 14:46Speaker 5: There was one juror, as we know- that blocked Lindsay
- 14:51Speaker 5: Clancy from being acquitted. She's the mom who has admitted
- 14:55Speaker 5: to killing her three kids, but says that she did
- 14:58Speaker 5: it because she had postpartum psychosis. The lone juror insisted
- 15:03Speaker 5: that he wouldn't find her not guilty by reason of insanity,
- 15:07Speaker 5: despite saying during deliberations that he did have reasonable doubt.
- 15:11Speaker 5: So apparently some of the jurors are now speaking out.
- 15:14Speaker 5: And the foreperson said she thought at one point the
- 15:17Speaker 5: group had persuaded that juror To vote for acquittal, she
- 15:21Speaker 5: says he admitted he had reasonable doubt. I started filling
- 15:25Speaker 5: out the forms. I was so excited. There were three
- 15:27Speaker 5: forms I had to fill out. I started filling them out.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I wrote my signature on each one. And then he said,
- 15:32Speaker 5: but I'm still going to say she's not guilty by
- 15:35Speaker 5: reason of insanity.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Keep in mind, this is not guilty because of insanity.
- 15:41Speaker 3: It's not an acquittal. It is one of the charges.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And as the prosecution, and I don't understand what the
- 15:47Speaker 3: prosecution was doing, arguing first-degree murder, that she planned it,
- 15:53Speaker 3: that she knew what she was doing. Maybe that's all true,
- 15:58Speaker 3: but what mother sends her husband out for an errand,
- 16:03Speaker 3: strangles her three kids— jumps out of a second-story window
- 16:08Speaker 3: after slicing herself up in the throat and on the wrists,
- 16:14Speaker 3: and the prosecution is saying she isn't crazy? I mean,
- 16:20Speaker 3: where do you go with that? I mean, I'm not
- 16:23Speaker 3: a big fan of letting people off, but, man, you
- 16:26Speaker 3: reach them. You know, this prosecutor, it doesn't matter how
- 16:28Speaker 3: crazy someone would be, would go for the death penalty,
- 16:31Speaker 3: would go for first-degree murder. As far as prosecution is concerned,
- 16:35Speaker 3: I guess there's no such thing as people that are
- 16:38Speaker 3: crazy enough to do this.
- 16:40Speaker 2: So I didn't get it. I didn't even know. And
- 16:41Speaker 2: I agree with the defense attorney.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Why would they even bring this other than just putting
- 16:46Speaker 3: her in a facility?
- 16:48Speaker 5: And if she was found not guilty by reason of insanity,
- 16:51Speaker 5: wouldn't she end up in the facility anyway?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Oh, she is in one now anyway. But oh, yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 3: She would be spending most of the rest of her
- 17:00Speaker 3: life Hinkley, for example, was found not guilty for reason
- 17:05Speaker 3: of insanity when he attacked President Reagan and shot him.
- 17:11Speaker 3: He has just recently been released and in the care
- 17:16Speaker 3: of his mother after spending his– when was Reagan shot?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Do you remember the year?
- 17:22Speaker 3: 82? 82. So if he just was released– No, I
- 17:26Speaker 3: don't know.
- 17:26Speaker 5: 81.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Okay, 81.
- 17:28Speaker 3: So here we're talking 40-something years later. And he has
- 17:32Speaker 3: been released to his mother's care. Now, you don't think
- 17:38Speaker 3: that not guilty and she walks away. Well, she can't
- 17:40Speaker 3: walk because she's in a wheelchair. But not guilty and
- 17:43Speaker 3: she rolls away. Okay.
- 17:49Speaker 6: After months in hiding, Becerra agreed to debate. So says
- 17:54Speaker 6: Hilton on X. I wonder what changed, he added. So
- 17:59Speaker 6: it seems September 30th on CNN is going to be
- 18:03Speaker 6: Hilton versus Becerra. Of course, Becerra is the Democrat and
- 18:10Speaker 6: Steve Hilton is a Republican. They'll finally square off in
- 18:13Speaker 6: the debate on stage after weeks of kind of snipping
- 18:18Speaker 6: back and forth at each other. And Hilton obviously saying
- 18:23Speaker 6: that he was being ducked.
- 18:26Speaker 2: By Trump. So they're going to get together on CNN.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Wait till you see the personal attacks. I mean,
- 18:33Speaker 3: it has gotten vicious. They don't even pretend to say
- 18:36Speaker 3: we'll take the high end. So the Hilton says that
- 18:40Speaker 3: Becerra is basically gutless. Becerra's spokesperson, this is my fun,
- 18:45Speaker 3: the more fun, the more fun statement made by Becerra campaign.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Jonathan Underland for the Becerra campaign wrote, if debates reward substance,
- 18:58Speaker 3: it's going to be a rough night for President Trump's lapdog.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's Becerra.
- 19:03Speaker 3: But at least he'll be wearing shoes. It's going to
- 19:08Speaker 3: get tough. It's going to be good. It's going to
- 19:10Speaker 3: be good. And Hilton, if she speaks with a British accent,
- 19:16Speaker 3: I wonder if Becerra is going to bring that up,
- 19:17Speaker 3: that he's a Brit.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Which he no longer is.
- 19:21Speaker 3: He gave up his British citizenship to become an American
- 19:24Speaker 3: or when he became an American.
- 19:25Speaker 2: You don't have to do that. That's very unusual today.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Going back to the high court again, the Trump administration
- 19:33Speaker 5: has filed an emergency appeal seeking the Supreme Court's blessing
- 19:37Speaker 5: to deploy a federal immigration database that it says could
- 19:41Speaker 5: be used to root out people who are illegally or
- 19:44Speaker 5: improperly registered to vote. Of course, this is all tied
- 19:47Speaker 5: to an executive order that President Trump issued that directed
- 19:51Speaker 5: the Department of Homeland Security to share information with state
- 19:54Speaker 5: officials about voter eligibility and then compare those voter rolls. Well,
- 19:58Speaker 5: it was struck down by the court. Voting rights groups
- 20:03Speaker 5: challenged the database, arguing it violated individuals' privacy rights and
- 20:08Speaker 5: came up with inaccurate results. A federal judge ruled the
- 20:12Speaker 5: verification system was unlawful and ordered it to be disabled.
- 20:16Speaker 5: That was just in June. And then last week, a
- 20:18Speaker 5: federal appeals court also ruled against the administration.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know how the administration is going to prevail.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I mean, this is the Fed telling the states, here's
- 20:29Speaker 3: what you have to do. We're providing you with a
- 20:33Speaker 3: list of people that, well, as far as all of
- 20:38Speaker 3: our records, our immigration records, and you have to go
- 20:41Speaker 3: through that list to see how they match up with
- 20:44Speaker 3: your voter rolls.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And the state, California, is saying no. Ain't going to happen.
- 20:52Speaker 3: And because the issue of elections are state or state elections,
- 20:56Speaker 3: read the constitution. Trump's position is look at the U
- 21:01Speaker 3: S postal service that delivers those ballots. We control that
- 21:06Speaker 3: because we are the post office.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Trump's going to lose.
- 21:10Speaker 3: And by the way, it's already the mail-in balloting is
- 21:13Speaker 3: already gone. It's already up in certain States. The mail
- 21:16Speaker 3: has already been, uh, been served or it's already been, uh,
- 21:21Speaker 3: it's already been distributed on voter ballots so i don't
- 21:25Speaker 3: know where he's gonna go.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Oh oh neil please next.
- 21:29Speaker 6: Okay so if you pushed me maybe i understand why
- 21:34Speaker 6: you want to poke the the canadians or even the
- 21:37Speaker 6: mexicans with the gulf of america i haven't figured this
- 21:41Speaker 6: one out so uh President Trump signed an executive order
- 21:47Speaker 6: renaming Lake Ontario, as we know, to Lake America. Well,
- 21:51Speaker 6: apparently Sunday he posted a mapped picture of the state
- 21:56Speaker 6: of New Mexico, but Mexico was crossed out and America
- 22:02Speaker 6: was put in. So it would be New America.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I didn't know we had a fight with them.
- 22:10Speaker 3: How much do you think it's him poking the bear?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh, it's all poking the bear.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Or no, he really wants to and says this is
- 22:20Speaker 3: what should happen. Gulf of America, for example, is not
- 22:24Speaker 3: him poking the bear. He believes that it should be
- 22:26Speaker 3: Gulf of Mexico.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Hold on one second. Kono says it was fake. What
- 22:30Speaker 2: was fake?
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it says the New America map shared by Donald
- 22:32Speaker 4: Trump was an edited fake picture that originally came from
- 22:35Speaker 4: an internet parody account.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Okay, but did he repost it? He shared it.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Did he share it as a joke? Did he share
- 22:44Speaker 3: it as a parody?
- 22:45Speaker 2: There was no LOL.
- 22:47Speaker 3: What was it doing on his website? Yeah, he did
- 22:49Speaker 3: it on the.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Truth Social account.
- 22:53Speaker 3: He just shared it on the Truth Social. Yeah, and
- 22:56Speaker 3: then on this one, poking the bear. And that's the
- 22:59Speaker 3: question I asked. I do believe he does both. I
- 23:03Speaker 3: think he pokes the bear as well as make a statement.
- 23:08Speaker 3: You know, for example, does he really want Greenland to
- 23:11Speaker 3: be part of the United States?
- 23:13Speaker 2: I think so.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Oh, but wait, he's not done yet. That's a tease for.
- 23:17Speaker 2: The next one.
- 23:18Speaker 6: The official White House ex-account also shared it without any explanation.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Pretty powerful. I get if it's parody, but it's the
- 23:29Speaker 2: White House official.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the issue. But again, the question is... Yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 3: the issue is, that's the question. And I think he
- 23:39Speaker 3: does both. Poke the bear as well as legitimately believe,
- 23:43Speaker 3: for example, the Gulf of Mexico should be Gulf of America.
- 23:47Speaker 3: It shouldn't be anything connected to the United States. It
- 23:49Speaker 3: should not have any other name other than the United States.
- 23:53Speaker 3: And in New Mexico, it's New Mexico.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:56Speaker 5: This land is Trump's land. Iceland has summoned the U.S. ambassador.
- 24:03Speaker 5: After President Trump posted an image on social media showing
- 24:06Speaker 5: the island and other countries covered by the American flag,
- 24:10Speaker 5: including the U.S., Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, Central America and
- 24:16Speaker 5: the Caribbean, all covered in the U.S. flag with the
- 24:21Speaker 5: entire landmass labeled the United States of America.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yep.
- 24:27Speaker 3: And this happens when any foreign country that the United
- 24:31Speaker 3: States or any country has diplomatic relations with, that if
- 24:35Speaker 3: they're not happy with that country, then the ambassador gets
- 24:39Speaker 3: called in. And Iceland's foreign minister called in Billy Long,
- 24:43Speaker 3: the U.S. ambassador to Iceland, who has only been named
- 24:45Speaker 3: a month ago, and basically asked him, so how many
- 24:51Speaker 3: levels of insane is your president? And Billy Long started counting.
- 25:01Speaker 3: And then the ambassador asked for a break, and we'll
- 25:05Speaker 3: come back to the rest of them after we have
- 25:07Speaker 3: a quick refreshment break. Where do you go with all
- 25:10Speaker 3: this stuff? Where do you go? Okay, well, here's a
- 25:15Speaker 3: story that all of us are experiencing.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Neil? The TSA story? Are we all experiencing this? Yeah,
- 25:24Speaker 2: who fly?
- 25:24Speaker 3: We all fly.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So this is interesting.
- 25:27Speaker 6: I didn't even know that they had, that this was
- 25:30Speaker 6: currently available at some airports, but the Transportation Security Administration
- 25:35Speaker 6: has launched a new program. It allows, you know, some
- 25:38Speaker 6: people without plane tickets to go through the airport security.
- 25:42Speaker 2: So it's called Gateside.
- 25:45Speaker 6: And it allows what we remember, most of us remember,
- 25:48Speaker 6: when you could go sit with your friend before they
- 25:52Speaker 6: left or go hang out on a layover or something
- 25:57Speaker 6: and go through security prior to 9-11. And I guess
- 26:02Speaker 6: if you have certain TSA pre-checks and things like that,
- 26:06Speaker 6: then you can meet or see off friends, family at
- 26:10Speaker 6: the gate, meet someone during that layover or visit the
- 26:13Speaker 6: airport restaurants and shops.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it does. It show LAX has been
- 26:18Speaker 2: one of the airports. No, I don't think so. Including LAX. Hey,
- 26:21Speaker 2: you know what?
- 26:22Speaker 3: When you think about something like this, have they have
- 26:25Speaker 3: they taken security too far? For example, you go to
- 26:27Speaker 3: Europe and you fly around. You don't have to take
- 26:30Speaker 3: your shoes off. Only the United States, you take your
- 26:32Speaker 3: shoes off. And why is that? And when you look
- 26:35Speaker 3: at the history of those incidents, it was one guy,
- 26:38Speaker 3: I think his name was Richard Reed, that was caught
- 26:41Speaker 3: on an airplane with his shoes that had explosives in them.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And the detonation were a bunch of matches sticking out
- 26:49Speaker 3: like birthday candles all the way around the shoe. And
- 26:53Speaker 3: he was trying to light one of the matches. It
- 26:56Speaker 3: was a Roadrunner cartoon is what it was. And because
- 27:00Speaker 3: of that, we take our shoes off. Of course, it
- 27:03Speaker 3: never happened because there was no way that explosion was
- 27:06Speaker 3: going to take place. How about the people that have
- 27:13Speaker 3: stuck explosive in their underwear? Does that mean that all
- 27:18Speaker 3: the underwear has to be looked at or taken off?
- 27:21Speaker 2: Why not? That makes all the sense in the world too.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Well, that's the whole point of security is to extend
- 27:26Speaker 6: it past the the plausible for the most part or
- 27:31Speaker 6: the possible.
- 27:32Speaker 2: And sometimes you get ridiculous.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Not anymore.
- 27:35Speaker 6: It's, it is slowed down. I mean, especially, I don't
- 27:37Speaker 6: have to take my shoes off if you are in pre-check.
- 27:40Speaker 2: If you're in pre-check, that's right.
- 27:41Speaker 3: You don't have to open your computer and that's been
- 27:43Speaker 3: around for a while, but they haven't gone beyond that. Amy.
- 27:48Speaker 5: What we left behind five years ago, we left Afghanistan and,
- 27:55Speaker 5: Now CBS News has sent reporters in to go check
- 27:58Speaker 5: it out. And what they found was billions of dollars
- 28:01Speaker 5: worth of American-purchased military hardware still buzzing around. The hardware
- 28:07Speaker 5: still pretty easy to spot, apparently, on the streets of Kabul.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Taliban fighters patrol in armored vehicles once supplied to Afghan
- 28:15Speaker 5: forces from U.S. forces. The Taliban proudly shows off its
- 28:21Speaker 5: American-funded arsenal. Even staging military parades through Kabul's streets.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 5: $ 70 billion worth.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Happens in 1979. Same thing happened in Iran when the
- 28:33Speaker 3: revolution took place.
- 28:35Speaker 5: We left hardware behind?
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, tons of hardware. Yeah. Vietnam, tons of hardware.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Remember they were throwing helicopters off the aircraft carriers to
- 28:47Speaker 3: make room?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 3: It's crazy when we get out of there very quickly.
- 28:51Speaker 3: And since 9-11 is going to be remembered on 9-11
- 28:56Speaker 3: on Friday, I've been telling you that we're going to
- 28:58Speaker 3: be broadcasting the broadcast, rebroadcasting the broadcast we did that
- 29:03Speaker 3: morning as the terrorist attacks were panning out. And it's
- 29:11Speaker 3: very interesting.
- 29:12Speaker 5: It's a montage of six hours of broadcast.
- 29:15Speaker 2: That's true.
- 29:15Speaker 3: I was on for six hours. And it was, we
- 29:19Speaker 3: put together, what, six, seven minutes of the most important moments,
- 29:24Speaker 3: but you'll hear that.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Okay, we are done.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Coming up, Steve Hilton, who is running for the governor
- 29:29Speaker 3: of California, as opposed to Xavier Becerra, the Democrat.
- 29:35Speaker 2: He's got an idea. Oh, boy, he has an idea.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Let's get rid of him. of the DMV.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Everybody's going to love that. Free pizzas on Friday. That's
- 29:47Speaker 3: the kid who won my fourth grade presidency when we
- 29:52Speaker 3: were in school. Free pizzas on Friday.
- 29:55Speaker 2: And that's Steve Hilton.
- 29:57Speaker 6: That's the entire Democratic Socialist Party is what that is.
- 30:02Speaker 3: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Catch my show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- 30:07Speaker 3: And anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
