- 0:55Speaker 2: connecting us. Here goes by or that goes by. This

- 1:12Speaker 2: most notably venues. I think a lot of people who
- 1:14Speaker 2: definitely know comedy know these, the comedy Store, improv flappers,
- 1:18Speaker 2: and also you have performed at per Bak Comedy Festival.

- 1:34Speaker 2: to finally connect with you here.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Thank you. I love that intro to what what If?
- 1:38Speaker 3: I went by Meryl Klemobo and my name was like
- 1:40Speaker 3: Lisa Smith or something. And we do have a wife
- 1:45Speaker 3: in Germany.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so, so my wife is based out of she
- 1:50Speaker 2: ever not based, she is from the United States of America.
- 1:54Speaker 2: But she got this job essentially the opportunity to go
- 2:00Speaker 2: work overseas for a bit, and uh so she's over
- 2:03Speaker 2: there currently and then over the next couple of courses
- 2:06Speaker 2: of when you know, before her essentially term ends, I'll
- 2:09Speaker 2: be going out there here an Eric gole visor and
- 2:11Speaker 2: stuff like that.
- 2:11Speaker 3: So, wow, you're racking up the miles. I bet.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yes. But since you bring that up, yeah, I mean,
- 2:21Speaker 2: I want to hear it.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I love you.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I guess I'll bring its really quick. Whenever we do nice,
- 2:26Speaker 2: whenever we do this podcast, we always like to you know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you don't have to drink alcohol. We like to encourage
- 2:30Speaker 2: good casual conversations. I'm drinking a poppy orange so noa,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I think, are you having anything?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yes, I'm clinking my glass theatrical purposes. This is really funny.
- 2:42Speaker 3: There's this like you know this. I don't know if
- 2:44Speaker 3: you've heard of Ariwan. There's like fancy grocery store.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Oh I needed okay, I need to ask you about this, yes.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yes, okay, so but right now this is it's so funny.
- 2:51Speaker 3: But I love I mean, I go there sometimes, like not,
- 2:54Speaker 3: I can't make it my weekly staple, you know for groceries.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Obviously it's like so so so expensive, but every now
- 2:59Speaker 3: and then I'll buy the soups from there because then
- 3:02Speaker 3: you could keep the glass jars, and I feel like
- 3:04Speaker 3: drinking out of the glass jars. I feel so fancy.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So I'm currently drinking like an energy drink a meal.
- 3:11Speaker 3: It's called the Meo, like a squeeze kind of energy
- 3:13Speaker 3: drink out of my air one cup, which is so annoying.
- 3:15Speaker 3: But I always I never feel bad spending that much
- 3:20Speaker 3: at air One. I just tell myself that, like I'm
- 3:22Speaker 3: buying drink wear, you know. So it's like, okay, a
- 3:25Speaker 3: thirty dollars soup I'm really getting like a glass basically.
- 3:27Speaker 2: See if anything that I'll get to the German thing
- 3:29Speaker 2: in a minute, Like yeah, because like that's what. That's
- 3:31Speaker 2: all I say about air one. For those who don't know,
- 3:33Speaker 2: just look up air one on any social media platform
- 3:35Speaker 2: and you're gonna really be shaking your head, like how
- 3:36Speaker 2: much they want for a sandwich. But like, I mean, okay,
- 3:40Speaker 2: that's the thing, you know. I didn't know that, like
- 3:42Speaker 2: if you buy sup you get to keep the cup
- 3:44Speaker 2: wear or something like that. I mean, sure some grocery
- 3:46Speaker 2: stores do that, but it's usually the cheapest plastic thing.
- 3:49Speaker 3: You know, these are like beautiful glasses. I feel like
- 3:51Speaker 3: the strategy at air one is that you just have
- 3:53Speaker 3: to buy things that you can then reuse the containers
- 3:55Speaker 3: for and then it's not that bad.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Okay, well, I mean, if you're gonna use out of
- 3:58Speaker 2: more than once a night, can get it.
- 4:00Speaker 3: But yeah, but it is crazy. The other day I
- 4:03Speaker 3: went to go meet up with a friend and I
- 4:05Speaker 3: bought her a couple sunflowers and then like lunch for
- 4:08Speaker 3: her and I and my total was one hundred and
- 4:10Speaker 3: four dollars, and I'm like cool, I wanted to return
- 4:12Speaker 3: everything and the whole time. I had like a nod
- 4:14Speaker 3: in my stomach about it. I felt so like sick
- 4:16Speaker 3: to my stomach the whole day that I'm like, this
- 4:18Speaker 3: is just so not worth it that sometimes it's, uh,
- 4:21Speaker 3: it's a little crazy.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I mean, at least you got the sunflowers though.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yeah, the sunflowers were nice. I think she like I
- 4:26Speaker 3: kind of saw her just like stuffed them in her
- 4:28Speaker 3: car on the way home. So you know, it was
- 4:30Speaker 3: one hundred and two dollars of an experience at least,
- 4:32Speaker 3: oh my.
- 4:33Speaker 2: God, hundred Again, that's I mean, not that the air
- 4:36Speaker 2: one's the only crazy. Like I mean, it's like the
- 4:38Speaker 2: big crazy grocery store right now that everyone hears about
- 4:41Speaker 2: the crazy prices, but I mean groceries anywhere. We'll not
- 4:44Speaker 2: get into the political side of things, but like anywhere
- 4:46Speaker 2: it's insane. Because it was the other day I went
- 4:48Speaker 2: and has bought a couple of things at Chicken, some fruit,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and my bill is like fifty dollars, and I'm like, why, Yeah, it's.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Too much, it's too much. Like that is what I
- 5:00Speaker 3: tell myself too. I'm like, oh, I could make myself
- 5:02Speaker 3: a salad, but it will be seventy eight dollars right now,
- 5:05Speaker 3: So I'll just like get Chick fil a. Not very
- 5:08Speaker 3: healthy and not a very healthy mindset, but I.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Mean, I mean, if it's an Airwon sound it comes
- 5:12Speaker 2: in a nice little big container then releases out of it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Oh that's insane. Well, actually kind of going out the
- 5:17Speaker 2: grocery story thing here in a second. So yeah, So
- 5:19Speaker 2: in Germany, my wife is out there currently, so I'll
- 5:22Speaker 2: be going out there back and forth grocery stores there. Again,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I don't know about Airwin. I've never been the Airwon,
- 5:30Speaker 2: but like you know, most grocery stores here, they are
- 5:32Speaker 2: a larger kind of commodity, like even like you're like
- 5:34Speaker 2: little Aldie ones. Like yeah, like when you go in there,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's how I put this, they want you to spend
- 5:41Speaker 2: as much time as you can in there to keep
- 5:44Speaker 2: buying more stuff.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the majority.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Of an experience.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I feel like Whole Food has done a good job
- 5:50Speaker 3: of that, where I see people going there to watch
- 5:52Speaker 3: football games and like they have social events there.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Oh I'm not afraid. Event I've been to Whole Foods
- 5:57Speaker 2: or Mariano's and I've definitely been like, oh, I'm gonna
- 6:00Speaker 2: go buy someone next to you know I'm at the
- 6:01Speaker 2: bar having a couple of beers.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I actually I know of a friend who
- 6:06Speaker 3: she was upset that she's pregnant, and she was so
- 6:08Speaker 3: mad that her husband only hangs out at like the
- 6:11Speaker 3: Whole Foods wine bar just watching football all the time.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I'm like, I told my boyfriend, I'm like, I would
- 6:15Speaker 3: be so mad at you, slash embarrassed if like I
- 6:18Speaker 3: was about to give birth and he was at like
- 6:19Speaker 3: the the Whole Foods watching football.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I feel, yeah, I'd rather be at an excell bar
- 6:24Speaker 2: where the demons will probably better. I mean, that's gonna
- 6:27Speaker 2: have a cheap I'm a cheap bastards.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I forgot what part of the country you live in.
- 6:34Speaker 2: So myself, I live in the Chicago area, okay, and
- 6:38Speaker 2: my wife is in uh I'm not for certain redon
- 6:41Speaker 2: I won't say where, but she's in Germany. But the
- 6:44Speaker 2: the funny thing about grocery stores there, so like you said,
- 6:46Speaker 2: like like the Whole Foods, Mariano's are all the They're
- 6:48Speaker 2: like a big commodity, like BIGI aleways. I can't say
- 6:52Speaker 2: for other parts of Europe, but in the few grocery
- 6:56Speaker 2: stores I've been to in Germany. This is my second
- 6:57Speaker 2: outing going out to visit her. It's eventually, I don't
- 7:00Speaker 2: want to call like a maze, but it kind of
- 7:02Speaker 2: like is amazed because it's like you walk through it.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Let's see this. Okay, you walk through the grocery store
- 7:09Speaker 2: and you walk through your first thing you do, you
- 7:11Speaker 2: walk through your you know, your produce, your vegetables and
- 7:13Speaker 2: stuff like that. If you go to the checkout counter,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you can go, oh, I forgot it. I'm gonna run
- 7:19Speaker 2: back to I'll too and grab it there. Nope, you
- 7:22Speaker 2: want to do that? You have to go all the
- 7:24Speaker 2: way back.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I don't think I've experienced one like that yet.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So it's like, no, you gotta you gotta get you know,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you come in with a let. That's why I'm saying,
- 7:33Speaker 2: because you know, I'm not fredim typical guy. I don't
- 7:36Speaker 2: need a list, you know. Yeah, yeah, you know. The
- 7:39Speaker 2: wife tells you, hey, we just need baking soda, some
- 7:42Speaker 2: bread and fruit, and I come back with beer, a
- 7:45Speaker 2: PlayStation and a bike of chips and like.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Like a parking ticket or something. Yeah, whoa. I feel
- 7:52Speaker 3: like I would get so overwhelmed if I like missed
- 7:54Speaker 3: my turn and I would just I would like flee
- 7:56Speaker 3: the grocery store with it in five minutes.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Oh no, no joke. I mean having me the first
- 8:00Speaker 2: time we went, because you know, she's like all right,
- 8:02Speaker 2: like what wait, what do you want? And I'm like, oh,
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'll just write certain things and she's like, babe, you
- 8:07Speaker 2: gotta know what you want going in, because then I
- 8:10Speaker 2: was like oh no, oh yeah, we got some stuff
- 8:13Speaker 2: down and of course we kept walking. Me getting there,
- 8:15Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, that looks actually pretty good. I'll come
- 8:17Speaker 2: back and get it. Thanks you write the checkout count.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I'm like, oh crap, Like no, I wanna be that.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna be that guy that like you're that parent
- 8:23Speaker 2: that leaves the kid at the counter like, oh I
- 8:25Speaker 2: do you ei grab one thing? Hold out one second.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Of course, by the time all the groceries are through,
- 8:28Speaker 2: the kids just sitting here with no money, waiting for
- 8:30Speaker 2: the parent to pay for the stuff twenty minutes later.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Oh no, that's thing about it. I mean, it's not
- 8:35Speaker 2: just Germans, but Zero. It's efficient. It's like, hey, let's
- 8:37Speaker 2: get this done. Yeah, get out, yes, And.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Like I find myself lately, that is how I feel too.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I want to be efficient and then like I feel,
- 8:46Speaker 3: I feel very like I'm a friendly person. I love, love,
- 8:49Speaker 3: love talking to people, but there's something about Trey or
- 8:51Speaker 3: Joes that like, whenever I'm there, I don't want to
- 8:54Speaker 3: tell them what I'm doing for the weekend, and I
- 8:56Speaker 3: don't want to like tell them why I'm buying meatballs,
- 8:58Speaker 3: and I just I actively avoid Trader Joe's because like
- 9:01Speaker 3: I don't want to talk to the cashier people, and
- 9:03Speaker 3: I feel like I wish they knew like a corporate
- 9:07Speaker 3: where it's like just let us buy our things or
- 9:09Speaker 3: maybe some people. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but
- 9:11Speaker 3: like I don't want.
- 9:12Speaker 2: No one hundred percent agree with you. I'm that guy too.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I mean unless if I'm like an electronics store, I
- 9:18Speaker 2: get it. But if you're in a grocery store, it's like,
- 9:20Speaker 2: you know, like I'm just shooting get my stuff, getting
- 9:22Speaker 2: get out.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yet Trader Joe's, yes, I actually get like shy and
- 9:26Speaker 3: I don't want to talk about what I'm buying. And
- 9:28Speaker 3: then they always have like they ask on this weekend weekend. Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know you, Like I don't know
- 9:34Speaker 3: you at all. Why am I telling you?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Well? I, for the longest time avoided Trader Joe's because
- 9:42Speaker 2: originally my wife and I we lived in Milwaukee and
- 9:44Speaker 2: the nearest Trader Joe's is outside the city. But like
- 9:47Speaker 2: her and like her girlfriends, like they would go the
- 9:49Speaker 2: whole time and come back and like, you know, they
- 9:51Speaker 2: make these like really good meals, like well, it's really
- 9:53Speaker 2: good they got at Trader Joe's, and like, I don't
- 9:55Speaker 2: know why, I I I hate to say it. Even then,
- 9:59Speaker 2: it wasn't like I mean Trigger Joe's, Like it's not
- 10:01Speaker 2: like it's it's a grocery store. It's expensive, but it's
- 10:03Speaker 2: not like essentially Air One. For some reason, like ten
- 10:06Speaker 2: years ago, I thought of them as like the Air One.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I don't really, I don't know why. But now anytime
- 10:12Speaker 2: I go grocery shopping, I'm literally finding excuses to go there.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and now they're so cheap, and now I'm like,
- 10:19Speaker 3: why is the orange chicken only like a dollar thirty nine? Yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 3: I don't want to know what it's made up for anything.
- 10:27Speaker 2: But it's funny you brought up the conversation because in uh,
- 10:31Speaker 2: I don't know. I think I'm pretty sure I saw
- 10:34Speaker 2: one in Poland, so I'll say in Europe there's this
- 10:35Speaker 2: it's like a it's called Redway or I think it's
- 10:38Speaker 2: pronounced Reve, but it's r E w E, and it's
- 10:41Speaker 2: kind of like thinking like as an all day it's
- 10:43Speaker 2: a pretty popular grocery store, but it's a bit on
- 10:47Speaker 2: the smaller side, although I have seen some big ones
- 10:51Speaker 2: over in Europe. They're very about like, hey, bring in
- 10:54Speaker 2: your own bags. We're gonna charge you for plastic bags
- 10:56Speaker 2: kind of thing. I know, it's a big up and
- 10:58Speaker 2: coming thing around the country. I don't know about the
- 10:59Speaker 2: California in the Chicago area that's a big thing. Now
- 11:02Speaker 2: if you go in your and don't have grocery bags,
- 11:04Speaker 2: you're gonna get charged.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I think it's like ten or fifteen cents
- 11:08Speaker 3: or something.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Same here. So I had one of these Reve bags
- 11:12Speaker 2: and I literally go up to the counter trader Joe's
- 11:14Speaker 2: and I get it, and I'm having a conversation with
- 11:17Speaker 2: not just one with not just a registered person, the
- 11:19Speaker 2: person bagging the groceries. And next thing you know, I'm
- 11:21Speaker 2: looking behind me. There's like five people just standing there
- 11:23Speaker 2: giving me this dirty because they're like what is this
- 11:27Speaker 2: bag from? Like, oh, it's from Germany, MA. It's small talk,
- 11:30Speaker 2: and I'm like and of course, like I'm like, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I'm trying to be respecting like this, Oh it's from
- 11:33Speaker 2: this grocery store in Germany and my wife's over there,
- 11:35Speaker 2: blah blah blah. And they're not like asking like what
- 11:38Speaker 2: she doing over there? They're like, oh, what does she do?
- 11:41Speaker 2: How's the project coming? And I'm like and I'm like, oh, guys, yeah, it's.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Like keep it going, keep it going. I know. I
- 11:49Speaker 3: feel like there's such a difference of they're like basically
- 11:51Speaker 3: doing a podcast episode with you, and you're like, I
- 11:53Speaker 3: just want to sometimes buy my stuff and get going.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I just keep her recording in my pocket.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Just maybe maybe down the road that would be a
- 12:01Speaker 3: good episode of just like visiting eighteen different stores and
- 12:04Speaker 3: recording and then you could like do a consumer reporter.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So I don't know that.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Honestly, that wouldn't be the or if anything, do it
- 12:10Speaker 2: because like not saying this is like a bar the podcast,
- 12:12Speaker 2: but they do like different kind of dive bars because
- 12:14Speaker 2: I can tell you there's some I can tell you
- 12:16Speaker 2: some stories or not even me. I can just like
- 12:19Speaker 2: to some of the stories I've heard just like people
- 12:20Speaker 2: talking about in the public.
- 12:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:23Speaker 2: It's like in some of these Wisconsin or Illinois bars,
- 12:26Speaker 2: it's just like why are you saying this? Like I
- 12:29Speaker 2: don't it doesn't matter what the barschool one hundred people
- 12:31Speaker 2: or four people, Like why would you say that thing?
- 12:32Speaker 3: I'm loud like publicly, yes, Like like it traderes if
- 12:36Speaker 3: they ask what I'm up to on the Friday? I
- 12:38Speaker 3: could if I if I said, like I might murder
- 12:40Speaker 3: my boyfriend or something. But I wonder if they would
- 12:42Speaker 3: have to tell anyone or like, you know, like if
- 12:44Speaker 3: I could if I confess the crime, I wonder if
- 12:46Speaker 3: that would be a good Maybe maybe we could do
- 12:48Speaker 3: a script in podcast with the whole think about it.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Well, like yeah, they ask like what are you doing
- 12:52Speaker 2: on Friday? That's when you're That's like I'd be like,
- 12:54Speaker 2: uh uh, you know, like, hey, Chuck, were you doing Friday?
- 12:57Speaker 2: I'm like, I agree, appreciate it, but I'm I'm happily married.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah. Next time, I'm just gonna try out and like
- 13:09Speaker 3: tell them something very scary and horrific and then hope
- 13:12Speaker 3: that they never Then I go to like some weird
- 13:14Speaker 3: asle for the rest of the time.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Honestly you especially in your prevent, that'd be a really
- 13:18Speaker 2: good bit. Yeah it would.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Well, yeah, maybe I could video and.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I know, I know, put on your TikTok and all
- 13:25Speaker 2: of a sudden you're known as the person who says
- 13:27Speaker 2: the whost uncouple of things.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm getting some ideas. Now, I might
- 13:31Speaker 3: even even if I hire one of my friends to
- 13:33Speaker 3: play a treater Joe's person. That will be okay. I'll
- 13:35Speaker 3: probably get sued and like get a season desist, but
- 13:39Speaker 3: it'll be fine.
- 13:39Speaker 2: No, just just do with the guys that like do
- 13:42Speaker 2: the target things do. Just wear a red polo, but
- 13:44Speaker 2: just don't put any target logos on it. You'll be alright.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Oh my god. Have you seen the videos
- 13:49Speaker 3: where these are my favorite, where they get like a
- 13:52Speaker 3: picture of a cashier and then they make it to
- 13:55Speaker 3: a T shirt and then they wear they wear it's
- 14:00Speaker 3: the funniest thing ever. They wear a picture, they wear
- 14:03Speaker 3: a T shirt of the picture of that cashier, like
- 14:06Speaker 3: and then they capture the cashiers face. It it's like
- 14:09Speaker 3: so funny when they discover that the person's like wearing
- 14:11Speaker 3: their face on a T shirt.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Oh, they'd be like a little like the trader Joe's
- 14:14Speaker 2: like like reported like admitted to a crime to a
- 14:17Speaker 2: cash regis. I love that. Oh my god, no, I
- 14:22Speaker 2: would be terrified. And it takes at it takes a
- 14:27Speaker 2: lot to go under my skin. That would get my
- 14:28Speaker 2: skin pretty.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I think it's very funny though, because I've seen something
- 14:32Speaker 3: and they pick like just the most regular, like kind
- 14:35Speaker 3: of everyday people looking cashiers, and it's it's like so
- 14:38Speaker 3: cute to me of like someone seeing themselves on a
- 14:41Speaker 3: T shirt. I think that's very sweet.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Well, there's a new trend that's going around right now,
- 14:45Speaker 2: especially for like sports teams, where like they're like getting
- 14:48Speaker 2: these like embarrassing photos and like when they were like
- 14:50Speaker 2: in high school or like really tiny kids, and they're like, hey,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you know, hey Tom Brady, can you signed his photo?
- 14:55Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, sure, And then you know,
- 14:58Speaker 2: because he's also is like wait, it's a social media guy,
- 15:00Speaker 2: like what's you going to sign? And then they turn
- 15:02Speaker 2: over says, oh no, it's like the most awkward looking
- 15:05Speaker 2: picture of you.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Oh.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I love that. I love that.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Some of the reactions have been pretty funny, like there's
- 15:10Speaker 2: some of them just like signed it laughing. Some had
- 15:12Speaker 2: literally like run off and like ripped the picture up
- 15:14Speaker 2: to like one hundred pieces, you know, not like it's
- 15:16Speaker 2: stay on the person's computer.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I want to do that. Tonight. Woman that was just
- 15:21Speaker 3: I forget what her name, Yulia, I think the US
- 15:23Speaker 3: Open tennis girl that was just like a big brat.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Did you see that?
- 15:27Speaker 2: No? I did not.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Oh, it was like this. I think Yulia something is
- 15:30Speaker 3: her name. I think she's from like Kasastan or something.
- 15:32Speaker 3: And she just it went like viral last week because
- 15:36Speaker 3: she lost, but she was being a really sore loser.
- 15:38Speaker 3: And then the ball girl was trying to throw back
- 15:40Speaker 3: the balls to her, and she just like stood there
- 15:42Speaker 3: with her arms basically crossed and let the balls like
- 15:45Speaker 3: fall to the fight.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I did hear about this?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, I'm sorry. I don't know if I can
- 15:50Speaker 3: curse or not, but I very bitchy and like I
- 15:53Speaker 3: hate that type of behavior. And I feel like, by
- 15:55Speaker 3: the time you're twenty nine and if you're still acting
- 15:58Speaker 3: like that and you're like a professional athlete, you're doing
- 16:00Speaker 3: something wrong. You know.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Oh my god, I did hear. I didn't know that
- 16:03Speaker 2: was a name.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I know.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I did hear about like this? Stay?
- 16:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah. It makes me so mad because I could
- 16:07Speaker 3: see like having a temper and throwing your racket or like,
- 16:10Speaker 3: you know, do it. That's not great, but it's it's
- 16:13Speaker 3: like you're not doing it to another person, but just
- 16:16Speaker 3: acting like that for just towards another person that's trying
- 16:18Speaker 3: to just do their job is like that makes me
- 16:20Speaker 3: want to go find the worst elementary school photo of her.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Find it, honestly, Like, I like that's the thing too,
- 16:28Speaker 2: Like I feel like we sometimes need to be humbled
- 16:32Speaker 2: a little bit, you know, like like hey, like we
- 16:35Speaker 2: we like we despite like what your thoughts are currently,
- 16:38Speaker 2: what's going on in the world, Like we have it
- 16:40Speaker 2: pretty good, you know, yes, like like like there are
- 16:43Speaker 2: people who you know can't go to Arawona and buy yeah, oh.
- 16:47Speaker 3: My god all the time. Anytime I like actually think
- 16:49Speaker 3: about problems, I'm like, Okay, I should be so lucky
- 16:52Speaker 3: to have these problems.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Right well, I mean, like, you know, the obviously comes
- 16:56Speaker 2: to the age because I'm not gonna riddim that when
- 16:57Speaker 2: I was eighteen, I was you know, I didn't think anything.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I thought, you know, the might rule is my oyster
- 17:02Speaker 2: and like my wife rightfully tells me this by the
- 17:05Speaker 2: way she goes, man, you used to be so spoiled,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and of course, me being me stubborn, I wasn't.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Oh it's stubborn. Like I didn't go on exotic trips
- 17:13Speaker 4: to not my wide did either. I didn't go on
- 17:15Speaker 4: exotic trips at Timbuktu or anything like that. It's like no,
- 17:18Speaker 4: but like your parents busted their ass and whatever you
- 17:21Speaker 4: whenever you wanted something or you could, you had to
- 17:23Speaker 4: free him to do things.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And like stuff like that. And I'm like, I wasn't spoiled.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I And she's oftenly gonna hear that. I mean, she
- 17:31Speaker 2: wasn't chill to hear this.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yes, I was spoiled, right, And I know, I know,
- 17:36Speaker 3: And some people don't even have the privilege of like
- 17:39Speaker 3: getting to be braddy to their parents or you know,
- 17:41Speaker 3: getting to I always think about that even now, where
- 17:43Speaker 3: like I'm still very lucky where I have both my
- 17:46Speaker 3: parents around and like they're very we're all really close,
- 17:48Speaker 3: and my mom will message me and I'll just be like, God,
- 17:51Speaker 3: I'm in the middle of working and I'm like, oh,
- 17:53Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I can't take two seconds to talk to
- 17:55Speaker 3: like the person that helped put me through college. And
- 17:57Speaker 3: helped is like the best mom in the world. Or
- 17:59Speaker 3: you know, I've tried to just slow down and not
- 18:01Speaker 3: be so like annoyed and braddy at at the age.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I love both of my parents and actually both my
- 18:07Speaker 2: parents are remarried to great people, and I try my
- 18:10Speaker 2: best to at least like at least tree or three
- 18:12Speaker 2: times a week I'm driving home from work to call
- 18:14Speaker 2: them and like no, no, But I get mad at
- 18:16Speaker 2: myself sometimes too, because there are times I'll call them
- 18:19Speaker 2: both and like it's still the It's still the twenty
- 18:23Speaker 2: year old that made like two bus in the conversation,
- 18:25Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm already annoyed.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Yeah, why do our parents trigger us?
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah, like like and it's not like to say anything
- 18:32Speaker 2: stupid like not or not stupid to like in general,
- 18:35Speaker 2: just like I'm like like why, like why why do
- 18:37Speaker 2: I call you? Like why am I doing this right
- 18:39Speaker 2: now all.
- 18:40Speaker 3: The time all the time, or like I'll act, I'll
- 18:42Speaker 3: have Mariah Carey where I'm so drained where my mom
- 18:44Speaker 3: will try to just call me and I'm just like,
- 18:47Speaker 3: what does everyone want from me? Everyone just like wants
- 18:49Speaker 3: a piece of me, And I'm like okay, or I
- 18:50Speaker 3: could just call my mom for like a minute and
- 18:52Speaker 3: a half, it'd be fine, like not that deep. But
- 18:55Speaker 3: I always try to think about to that, like our parents.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I don't know how yours are, but mine, like they
- 19:00Speaker 3: don't talk to a lot of people on the phone
- 19:02Speaker 3: or just in general. So it's like for every fifty
- 19:05Speaker 3: people that we talk to, it's like they that's like
- 19:08Speaker 3: their shining moment is to talk to us, you know,
- 19:11Speaker 3: their family on the phone. So I always think about that,
- 19:13Speaker 3: where if I'm like overwhelmed, my mom is just trying
- 19:16Speaker 3: to like I'm like probably one of six people she
- 19:18Speaker 3: talks to on the phone like that month almost.
- 19:19Speaker 2: You know, that's actually a pretty good point. My mom
- 19:23Speaker 2: definitely not like her her, and it's not just her
- 19:26Speaker 2: her and sexually kind of inspired me a little bit.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Her and her close friends have like made it their
- 19:29Speaker 2: mission these last like five years to like stay in touch.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Oh you know, I love that because it's easy. Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 2: it is, because it's easy to like lose, like get
- 19:37Speaker 2: like you know, just grow, you know, just drift apart.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Like I said, I know I have I had not
- 19:43Speaker 2: saying that, not say if I didn't seem to that,
- 19:44Speaker 2: whudn't give me a huge hug, kissing the cheeks, buying
- 19:46Speaker 2: a beer or whatever, hoping that by me a beer first.
- 19:49Speaker 2: But like, you know, it's just we haven't talked a
- 19:50Speaker 2: long time. It's just that's just life happens. But but yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 2: like there's times like literally like but my dad, they'll
- 19:57Speaker 2: like not say like he hasn't talked to people on
- 19:58Speaker 2: the phone, but like whatever, like my dad. I called
- 20:01Speaker 2: my father and I know he's gonna have this.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I love your dad, whatever I call him, I love
- 20:04Speaker 3: you too.
- 20:05Speaker 2: There are two things. There are two phrases he has
- 20:09Speaker 2: that he'll say, who is ringing my doorbell this year?
- 20:12Speaker 2: Like anyway? Sorry? Or there's late? There are two things
- 20:15Speaker 2: he will say. And if he says one of these
- 20:18Speaker 2: like phrases, I'm like, all right, this is either going
- 20:20Speaker 2: to be a you know, twenty minute conversations or or
- 20:29Speaker 2: this is gonna be a forty minute conversation. There's anything
- 20:34Speaker 2: wrong with that?
- 20:34Speaker 3: Okay, I need to know these phrases.
- 20:36Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, I'm not gonna tell there no, So
- 20:45Speaker 2: my love you dad. If the forty five minute one
- 20:48Speaker 2: is if he goes it's an e quick story, and then.
- 20:54Speaker 3: You know it's going to be like forever and ever
- 20:57Speaker 3: is he doing that like tongue in cheeks or no.
- 21:00Speaker 2: No, No, it's just it's just no, it's just a
- 21:02Speaker 2: matter of like how do I word it. It's just
- 21:06Speaker 2: like he's just like, oh, hey, my son called me.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I got a I got a funny story to tell him, Like,
- 21:09Speaker 2: oh yeah, sure, you know because it's like because in
- 21:13Speaker 2: his shoes, Hey, my son called me to talk. I
- 21:15Speaker 2: want to talk to him, yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I mean, And then forty minutes later, and I love
- 21:19Speaker 3: how parents always include like what everyone ate for dinner
- 21:21Speaker 3: in the story and it's just like every detail that
- 21:23Speaker 3: I don't need to know, but I think it's so cute.
- 21:26Speaker 2: No thankful. Now, I wish.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I want on behalf of all the people to know
- 21:31Speaker 3: what the twenty minute one is. But I'll it's not
- 21:34Speaker 3: It's not like.
- 21:37Speaker 2: A right, I'll tell the twenty minute one one if
- 21:40Speaker 2: anyone's listen to this podcast. It's not even a phrase
- 21:43Speaker 2: if it was this podcast. It's pretty well known that
- 21:45Speaker 2: my dad and I are very close. But also another
- 21:49Speaker 2: guest who comes on the show pretty often. His name
- 21:51Speaker 2: is the nickname is Oji Patron. We will do impersonations,
- 21:56Speaker 2: not planned. It just comes out. So whenever I know
- 22:00Speaker 2: it's to be a short conversation. My dad is one
- 22:01Speaker 2: him and I just started doing Arnold impersonations for twenty
- 22:04Speaker 2: for fifteen. Oh my god. No, And I said before,
- 22:10Speaker 2: it's rare, and it's rare that my father and I
- 22:13Speaker 2: call each other. It's like it's a great's relationship we have.
- 22:17Speaker 2: It's not you know, hey, hey son, how's it going?
- 22:20Speaker 2: Hey Dad, how are you? It's we always acknowledge each
- 22:23Speaker 2: other in an Arnold tone.
- 22:26Speaker 3: That is like the most bad thing too.
- 22:28Speaker 2: That's when I that's another time I'm like, all right,
- 22:30Speaker 2: there'll be a short conversation. But like whenever I hear
- 22:32Speaker 2: it can take a quick story and I never I'll
- 22:36Speaker 2: never cut them off, but like like I'll over together.
- 22:38Speaker 2: There's like one time my wife and I were going
- 22:39Speaker 2: to dinner with someone and my dad's on the phone
- 22:42Speaker 2: and she's like, oh, She's like like like how long
- 22:44Speaker 2: is this story? Like like we have we have a reservation.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Like I'm like, oh, hold on, babe, hold on babe.
- 22:48Speaker 2: And she's like she's like is it a good story?
- 22:51Speaker 2: I'm like, what story of my father's isn't a good story? Now?
- 22:56Speaker 2: But again with any fair, there's those towels or those
- 22:59Speaker 2: like you know, it's like I said, you call you
- 23:01Speaker 2: call them, and it's like you know what to call you?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Yes. All the time. My mom had this saying growing
- 23:07Speaker 3: up when we would we would go and it drives
- 23:09Speaker 3: me crazy. And she's still now. She doesn't jokingly to me,
- 23:12Speaker 3: but it used to drive me absolutely bonkers. Where we
- 23:15Speaker 3: would be, it would be like the last day of
- 23:18Speaker 3: a really nice vacation and then she would always say, well,
- 23:22Speaker 3: it's back to tea and toast, and like it would
- 23:24Speaker 3: drive me crazy. And finally one day we were like
- 23:28Speaker 3: coming back from Cape Cod or something. On one day
- 23:30Speaker 3: I screamed like I don't want tea and toast and
- 23:32Speaker 3: like you know, I'm like I want cavyr like coffee
- 23:35Speaker 3: every day and so it always and I finally I said,
- 23:37Speaker 3: when when she tells me it's back to tea and toast,
- 23:40Speaker 3: like growing up, that always just made me feel like, oh,
- 23:43Speaker 3: we went on this nice vacation, but we don't deserve
- 23:45Speaker 3: it year round, so like back to basically gruel you know,
- 23:49Speaker 3: of course made it like so much more drags than
- 23:51Speaker 3: what yes, yes and so, And now she always like
- 23:55Speaker 3: if we have a fancy dinner. She's always like tea
- 23:57Speaker 3: and toast. But she's so funny because she would say
- 24:00Speaker 3: had it would trigger me for so bad so many years,
- 24:02Speaker 3: and then finally I told her that now we laughed
- 24:04Speaker 3: so hard about it. But it's always like this thing.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I've had to explain it to my boyfriend, like what
- 24:08Speaker 3: tea and toast me? And we actually want to get
- 24:11Speaker 3: I think it'd be really cute, but I want to
- 24:13Speaker 3: get a tattoo, like really really small tattoo with my mom,
- 24:15Speaker 3: where like I get a little teething and she gets
- 24:17Speaker 3: a toasting. Yeah. Yeah, So now now it's the funny
- 24:22Speaker 3: thing is she's very very gluten free now and very
- 24:25Speaker 3: has celiac, so she there's no no toast to be had.
- 24:28Speaker 2: But no, my mom. She she retired a few years ago,
- 24:32Speaker 2: and she's always been a phenomenal cook. She's always making
- 24:35Speaker 2: these crazy and she's you know, she's a classic old
- 24:37Speaker 2: school Italian mom, you know, like you know, two of
- 24:41Speaker 2: your friends come over, like you know, hi, You're like hi, Hi, Hi,
- 24:45Speaker 2: how's it going and she goes good, you guys hungry? Nah, no,
- 24:47Speaker 2: we're okay. Tour minutes later there's like a fricking feast
- 24:50Speaker 2: on the team.
- 24:51Speaker 3: That is like a dream.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But this is this is how smart my mom is
- 24:55Speaker 2: being the classic Italian woman she is. I can't remember
- 25:00Speaker 2: when it started. I think it actually might have been
- 25:01Speaker 2: my stepdad because not that not that he doesn't like turkey.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I don't I like turkey too, but like, I don't
- 25:08Speaker 2: know what is Thanksgiving turkey like to me? I don't
- 25:10Speaker 2: know why. It's just never been like my I'm not
- 25:12Speaker 2: like a huge I got you know, I'm always going
- 25:15Speaker 2: for the sides. But for the longest as I can remember,
- 25:18Speaker 2: my mom will always make her homemade lasagna on Thanksgiving
- 25:21Speaker 2: and Christmas, and the pure joy I see in her
- 25:24Speaker 2: face whenever like a friend or I'm like, like I
- 25:27Speaker 2: remember saying, like my wife when she first came over
- 25:29Speaker 2: for thanks to me the first time, you know, my
- 25:31Speaker 2: mom like, okay, so we're gonna have turkey stuffing and
- 25:35Speaker 2: then you know, and she was, oh, and I got
- 25:38Speaker 2: this one. And she never says what is She was
- 25:40Speaker 2: only got this one thing in the oven, and like
- 25:41Speaker 2: one time my friend was like like, oh, what's in
- 25:43Speaker 2: the oven? And then she was just like, hey, I got
- 25:48Speaker 2: it's It's just a giant, giant pan of lasagna. Oh yeah, no,
- 25:54Speaker 2: and again, and I hate to say it, like both
- 25:57Speaker 2: my parents, both sets are phenomenal. Explain when it comes
- 26:00Speaker 2: to Thanksgiving and it's like, oh, how's the turkey? That's great, mom,
- 26:06Speaker 2: I'm on my third play lasangna though.
- 26:08Speaker 3: That would be every Thanksgiving meal I've been out. I
- 26:10Speaker 3: really feel like the lasagna would be the hit winner, like,
- 26:14Speaker 3: you know, even if for the non Italians. I mean
- 26:16Speaker 3: I'm not Italian, but to me, that would be like
- 26:18Speaker 3: the best dish I could imagine on Thanksgiving.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Oh no, that is my favorite dish other than like stuffy, no,
- 26:23Speaker 2: because because I'll never forget. Like there was like one
- 26:25Speaker 2: year in college. It's you know, like you know, just
- 26:26Speaker 2: hang out your friends. Oh hey man, except things. Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: what's your favorite dish? What's your favorite dish? Oh turkey? Well,
- 26:32Speaker 2: yours all the you know, the core green bean castle.
- 26:35Speaker 2: What's yours? Lasagna?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Oh that's so good?
- 26:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, no, I'm now I'm hungry.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Does she ever do Linguinian clams?
- 26:50Speaker 2: She has made them, but not for like a holiday.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Okay, that's like that's my favorite ridiculously but yees, since
- 26:59Speaker 3: I feel like an time I go to an Italian place.
- 27:01Speaker 3: You know when you you go to a certain type
- 27:03Speaker 3: of cuisine, but you're always like tay food. I always
- 27:06Speaker 3: get pat tim Like today will be different, I'll get
- 27:09Speaker 3: something else and then I completely you know, you get
- 27:11Speaker 3: the same thing over and over that Italian with clams
- 27:13Speaker 3: and linguini.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Well, like that's that's how I am. Like like my
- 27:17Speaker 2: favorite restaurants. It's like, I mean, it's gonna sound weird.
- 27:19Speaker 2: It's like like, hey, so would you guys like them?
- 27:22Speaker 2: You know, like what would you guys like to drink?
- 27:23Speaker 2: And then the chance to look at the many like
- 27:25Speaker 2: I don't need to look like yeah, I know.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Because you don't want to take a chance. I always
- 27:30Speaker 3: want to branch out. That's why I love like sharing
- 27:32Speaker 3: dishes with people, because you can try so many things,
- 27:34Speaker 3: but because it is it's so sad when you go
- 27:36Speaker 3: somewhere and you like venture out and then it's like nope,
- 27:38Speaker 3: But I know why I stick to my things.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Now, Well that's what now. My wife and I like
- 27:42Speaker 2: we've been doing it for a couple of years and
- 27:43Speaker 2: we've gone really more uh like communicate about in the
- 27:47Speaker 2: last couple of years, Like we'll go to restaurants and
- 27:50Speaker 2: I can't remember what what it was at some point
- 27:54Speaker 2: where we're actually, okay, now remember now, So we were
- 27:57Speaker 2: at this one restaurant. It's like, what we'll do with
- 27:58Speaker 2: thee the paraphrase W Moleman see before I told the
- 28:00Speaker 2: story is you know short or or something ol or something.
- 28:02Speaker 2: It's like, Okay, you're probably gonna have half that I'm
- 28:05Speaker 2: gonna have the other half, and then vice versa. We
- 28:08Speaker 2: went to this one restaurant and uh, I don't know why.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I really wanted to have passa carbonara. I don't know why,
- 28:15Speaker 2: I just really want I really wanted to have it.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And it was one of those few rare times where
- 28:24Speaker 2: she didn't tell me or I didn't tell her what
- 28:25Speaker 2: I was gonna order. So I word the pasta carbonara
- 28:28Speaker 2: and she gives me this look and I'm like, oh,
- 28:30Speaker 2: you wanted a day now and she's like yeah, and
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'm like okay. So then she ordered no joke, literally
- 28:39Speaker 2: the second thing I was thinking about. So then so
- 28:43Speaker 2: then they so then they come to the table and
- 28:45Speaker 2: they bring us our food and like I'm doing like
- 28:47Speaker 2: the switch, like, oh, did we get your orders?
- 28:48Speaker 3: I'm like no, that's so good though. It's good when
- 28:54Speaker 3: you have the kind of like a strategy team of
- 28:55Speaker 3: strategy basically Oh.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because I mean because like there's like nothing worse
- 28:58Speaker 2: than like you said, like you go to a or
- 29:00Speaker 2: a place you're familiar with the branch out and then
- 29:02Speaker 2: you're kind of like, yes, Okay.
- 29:05Speaker 3: I know I need to get more foody friends out
- 29:08Speaker 3: in Los Angeles because I'm not even joking. All of
- 29:10Speaker 3: my even my like very thin friends are on ozembic
- 29:14Speaker 3: and I'm not. None of my friends in LA have
- 29:17Speaker 3: an appetite and I'm like losing my mind. But this
- 29:20Speaker 3: is not why I moved down here too.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Is it again?
- 29:22Speaker 3: Now?
- 29:22Speaker 2: Can mine? I'm in the Chicago area.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you could ask me anything about it?
- 29:25Speaker 2: Is it? It's it's that big over It's like it's
- 29:28Speaker 2: the it's the thing now, it's the trend. It's oh
- 29:30Speaker 2: my god. I don't want to I don't want to
- 29:31Speaker 2: call it the new fad because there are legitily good
- 29:33Speaker 2: benefits and it is like the reason that was a
- 29:36Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm wrong, correct me, it was for
- 29:38Speaker 2: people with diabetes original, so like obviously it does have
- 29:41Speaker 2: benefits and like the original creation it was for a
- 29:44Speaker 2: good cause, but no just seems like it's like, oh, hey,
- 29:45Speaker 2: I want to lose twenty pounds.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yes, no, no, I can. It absolutely has become a
- 29:50Speaker 3: fad and a bunch of my friends get it in
- 29:53Speaker 3: the way that people get like vitamin B injections, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 3: where it's just like you can. I mean I have one.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I will not say who whatever, But one of my
- 30:00Speaker 3: friends just went to a clinic like kind of and
- 30:04Speaker 3: it was so funny. It was like a Simpsons episode
- 30:05Speaker 3: where this they were like, yeah, we used to be
- 30:07Speaker 3: a clinic for something else, and then we got shut down,
- 30:10Speaker 3: and now we're a clinic for ozampic and it's like
- 30:13Speaker 3: a very black market, like if anyone watches The Simpsons.
- 30:16Speaker 3: The doctor reminded me of like doctor Nick and just
- 30:18Speaker 3: kind of just like I pretend doctor, I mean to me,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I do have I have had some friends that were
- 30:24Speaker 3: like overweight and definitely had like insulin issues and then
- 30:27Speaker 3: you know, ozembic helped them, and but then then when
- 30:30Speaker 3: you go off of it, they gained the weight back
- 30:33Speaker 3: because they never really learned the practices of you know,
- 30:35Speaker 3: like healthy eating and stuff. And so my friends out
- 30:38Speaker 3: here are just like they were already skinny to begin with.
- 30:41Speaker 3: And then now one of my friends literally said the
- 30:43Speaker 3: other day, she was like, I'm not interested in food.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I'm like, you're not interested in food? So I think
- 30:51Speaker 3: I have like one or two friends that actually like
- 30:53Speaker 3: going to restaurants, and other than that, none of my
- 30:55Speaker 3: friends care, which is like, I mean, good for them,
- 30:58Speaker 3: but who care?
- 30:59Speaker 2: But you know not my though, well, like and this
- 31:01Speaker 2: is another thing that like my dad, like I've sworn
- 31:03Speaker 2: to secret sea, but like my dad, I'm I'm a
- 31:06Speaker 2: huge like I mean obviously in the Chicago or I'm
- 31:08Speaker 2: a huge pizza fanatic, but also I'm a huge burger guy.
- 31:12Speaker 2: And like I found or he found rather than he
- 31:16Speaker 2: brought me to it. The what we what him and
- 31:19Speaker 2: I both believe is to be the absolute best cheese
- 31:22Speaker 2: where we been in our life, your classic just regular
- 31:24Speaker 2: cheese and everything like that. And like I rarely tell
- 31:28Speaker 2: people where it at, where it's at a few people
- 31:30Speaker 2: know or like some friends of mine like, hey, you
- 31:32Speaker 2: try this one, but I'm like, yes, feel.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Oh, I'll definitely have to get some recommendations for you
- 31:37Speaker 3: if I ever come to Chicago.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And now whenever I go to like a restaurant and
- 31:41Speaker 2: if I get a burger, I'm not doing just like
- 31:44Speaker 2: the cheese whatever. I'm like, I'm like, oh wait, it's
- 31:47Speaker 2: like it comes with like aoli and this like a pretzel.
- 31:50Speaker 2: BUTK like, I can't do just like this. It's like
- 31:52Speaker 2: when you go to your favorite restaurant, you want to
- 31:54Speaker 2: order something different. Like now, when whenever I go to
- 31:56Speaker 2: any restaurant, it's like, oh, we just have cheeseburgers. I'm like,
- 31:59Speaker 2: I don't want to do it.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Because I've had the best, Like why why suffer through
- 32:03Speaker 3: this one? Something else out there?
- 32:05Speaker 2: Like every time we every time my dad and I
- 32:07Speaker 2: go there, it's like it's perfect.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And I think Chicago is a good eating city, like
- 32:12Speaker 3: I mean, La is definitely in the more. It's weird
- 32:15Speaker 3: here too, where it's almost like the very hype places
- 32:20Speaker 3: aren't always the best, and you know, the like hole
- 32:23Speaker 3: in the wall places are some of the best meals
- 32:25Speaker 3: I've had out here. But yeah, yeah, it's really funny
- 32:28Speaker 3: because anytime I ask my friends if they want to
- 32:30Speaker 3: go to lunch, they're like, no, sorry, we're we're off
- 32:32Speaker 3: of food right now.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Oh no, sorry, I my Olympic.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and I just I was at a party the
- 32:39Speaker 3: other day and like one guy, I mean, LA is
- 32:42Speaker 3: just like so weird. But someone was wearing a necklace
- 32:45Speaker 3: and then I'm like, oh, I love your necklace and
- 32:47Speaker 3: he's like thanks, and he opened it up and it
- 32:48Speaker 3: was it was a vile to like carry his antidepressant then,
- 32:53Speaker 3: and he was like, this one is my insulin blocker,
- 32:56Speaker 3: this one is my will butcher and this it was
- 32:58Speaker 3: like it was a full like a very nice looking
- 33:00Speaker 3: jewel necklace and the jewels opened up to him for
- 33:03Speaker 3: him to keep his pills. And I'm like, where am I?
- 33:05Speaker 3: What town am I?
- 33:06Speaker 2: Now? Every here's the like every every town like has
- 33:10Speaker 2: like weird things, you know, like like you know, like
- 33:12Speaker 2: you're saying like you're you're going to a party and
- 33:13Speaker 2: some guys pulling like pills out of like his necklaces
- 33:17Speaker 2: or like like in this class like New York, you'll
- 33:19Speaker 2: be like walking down the street and like some goddess,
- 33:21Speaker 2: you'll just be like randomly. I mean that's almost anywhere,
- 33:23Speaker 2: like the guy was like randomly yelling or whatnot. I mean, yeah, yeah,
- 33:27Speaker 2: event in Chicago, Milwaukee, it' said people are too friendly.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Oh I would love that. I like that it's like
- 33:32Speaker 3: it's the Trader Joseph Cities almost.
- 33:34Speaker 2: But no, that's that's actually great comparison because no joke.
- 33:36Speaker 2: When I was in Germany, there were times that my
- 33:39Speaker 2: wife and I are just myself be walking. We'd be
- 33:41Speaker 2: walking my dog and you know, like it's just like
- 33:45Speaker 2: the typical like maybe get like a little too close
- 33:47Speaker 2: to someone, just like walking the sidewalk, you just make
- 33:49Speaker 2: eye contact, you know, typical Midwestern hello, yeah, but not
- 33:56Speaker 2: even know hi, just ahead nod. I would get these
- 33:59Speaker 2: people to stop dead in their tracks and then they
- 34:02Speaker 2: would stare at me, staring through my soul.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 34:08Speaker 2: And this wasn't just one time too, this is multiple
- 34:10Speaker 2: times this happened, and like it's again, every every country,
- 34:14Speaker 2: every state, every city has their own cultures and are different.
- 34:17Speaker 2: But like I'm never forget like the first time someone
- 34:19Speaker 2: in Germany when I actually got you know, you're walking
- 34:21Speaker 2: the same sidewalk and like you're walking directions and I
- 34:23Speaker 2: go hello, you know, and they're like and like they
- 34:25Speaker 2: were like they said like hello back.
- 34:27Speaker 3: I got so like its like they must be from
- 34:30Speaker 3: somewhere else. For sure. I've seen that. I think, of
- 34:33Speaker 3: course on TikTok of all places. But I've seen people
- 34:35Speaker 3: doing the like German cold stare. You know, I don't
- 34:39Speaker 3: know if it's real or not, but it's like real German. Yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's that freaked me out. I feel like, yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 3: that's I would not last socially long there for very well.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Right because like I mean, I can't I can't tell
- 34:51Speaker 2: you how many. I mean just the typic can just
- 34:53Speaker 2: me be myself. But else just very Midwestern like like, oh, hey,
- 34:57Speaker 2: I'm walking to a store. We hold the door open,
- 34:58Speaker 2: and like even if the guys having a bad day,
- 35:02Speaker 2: you'll get a thank you. Yeah there, I literally got
- 35:05Speaker 2: a person staring at me. It's like, why was I
- 35:08Speaker 2: holding the open for them?
- 35:09Speaker 3: Oh my god, I couldn't. I feel like I wilt
- 35:12Speaker 3: like a flower. I definitely couldn't.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I mean, the key to themselves like if you're very
- 35:16Speaker 2: if you're introverted, that's perfect for you. But at the
- 35:19Speaker 2: same time, it's just like and as to what you said, yeah,
- 35:23Speaker 2: the person probably said a little back to me. Probably
- 35:26Speaker 2: not even from Germany.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Right right there. Used to be like a Minneapolis person
- 35:30Speaker 3: now they live here or something.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Oh good god, Lord. One thing I do want to
- 35:37Speaker 2: talk to you about because you didn't you have mentioned California.
- 35:40Speaker 2: And again, if I'm wrong here.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Call saying, I'll give you the California stare, which is
- 35:46Speaker 3: just like looking off into the into the Netherlands.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Out of a lot of people know this. So uh.
- 35:55Speaker 2: I actually my wife and we have we have some
- 35:58Speaker 2: friends who are from the California area, more so from
- 36:00Speaker 2: the I want to say, the Anaheim.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Area of oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yep.
- 36:06Speaker 2: So obviously California used to be it still is in
- 36:08Speaker 2: a way a very big stable for comedy in the
- 36:13Speaker 2: last couple of years. Then I'm just I'm just seeking
- 36:14Speaker 2: in terms of like social trend and stuff like that.
- 36:16Speaker 2: It seems that a lot of the main basis are
- 36:19Speaker 2: like a lot of big things of comedy in the
- 36:21Speaker 2: California have migrated out and have left California. I know,
- 36:24Speaker 2: like Texas for example, many huge thing. I would be
- 36:27Speaker 2: the first to say, I think the Midwest needs a
- 36:29Speaker 2: lot more stand up comedy. I'm not saying there aren't spots,
- 36:31Speaker 2: but like there aren't not that there aren't clubs or
- 36:35Speaker 2: anything like that, but like trying to find one to
- 36:36Speaker 2: get to one, rather to be I mean that's anymore,
- 36:38Speaker 2: but it can be a pain in the ass around here.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But as someone who obviously is involved in that realm
- 36:46Speaker 2: or actually kind of two part of questions, would you
- 36:48Speaker 2: agree that like comedy is kind of like left California
- 36:51Speaker 2: a little bit? But then also since if it has
- 36:53Speaker 2: quote unquote left, do you feel like for people like
- 36:57Speaker 2: yourself or for like others, it's kind of giving you,
- 36:59Speaker 2: given you guys more of as to like essentially get
- 37:02Speaker 2: that practice or you know, kind of like raise your
- 37:05Speaker 2: profile if you will.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so that's a good question. I feel like
- 37:09Speaker 3: I definitely feel like more of the higher to like
- 37:13Speaker 3: upper middle you know, very good comedians like how you
- 37:17Speaker 3: said where they don't necessarily need to be in just
- 37:19Speaker 3: New York or LA or even Chicago, you know, because
- 37:22Speaker 3: I know, like Chicago is a huge comedy Like a
- 37:25Speaker 3: lot of my my stand up friends like came from
- 37:27Speaker 3: there or kind of you know, like end up going
- 37:30Speaker 3: back there. I feel like the very very good people
- 37:34Speaker 3: can really live anywhere.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Now.
- 37:35Speaker 3: I have friends that like live out of Brooklyn or
- 37:38Speaker 3: you know, North Carolina or all places all around, and
- 37:40Speaker 3: then they just tour and then same thing with like, yes,
- 37:44Speaker 3: I feel like there's a whole enclave of Austin that
- 37:47Speaker 3: I feel like now is almost getting a little bit oversaturated,
- 37:50Speaker 3: and they're kind of like, you know, it's like so
- 37:53Speaker 3: many comedians went there and of the mothership that hold
- 37:56Speaker 3: the Joe Rogan venue that everyone loves so much. And
- 37:59Speaker 3: then of course, like besides that, they have so many
- 38:01Speaker 3: smaller venues and like smaller opportunities. Basically, yes, so like
- 38:05Speaker 3: Texas is oversaturated, but I feel like there's more shows.
- 38:09Speaker 3: There's more local shows here in LA than there has
- 38:13Speaker 3: been in a really long time. You know. So if
- 38:15Speaker 3: someone wanted to, they could be out almost every night.
- 38:18Speaker 3: They might be doing shows to like one person or
- 38:20Speaker 3: no you know, the bartenders or anything. But there's so
- 38:23Speaker 3: many everyone and their mother has like started a show
- 38:26Speaker 3: and they're producing it. Yeah, it's really cool. But I've
- 38:29Speaker 3: seen like around here, I mean, San Diego now is
- 38:31Speaker 3: getting way more into comedy and a lot of the
- 38:34Speaker 3: main like LA headliners. It's almost like good nothing for
- 38:38Speaker 3: people just to drive back and forth to do shows
- 38:41Speaker 3: in San Diego. And I think like there's so many
- 38:44Speaker 3: people just doing stand up, you know. I think for
- 38:47Speaker 3: whatever reason, just the social media and they're just interested
- 38:50Speaker 3: in it. Now that I think it's it's it's really good. Yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 3: I think there's still places like Vegas and Portland and
- 38:59Speaker 3: kind of all these like uh, second and third cities
- 39:02Speaker 3: where it tends to be like a ton of open mics,
- 39:05Speaker 3: but not a lot of great shows unless you're doing
- 39:08Speaker 3: like the one big show or you know, every city
- 39:11Speaker 3: seems to have like the big feeder that all the
- 39:13Speaker 3: people are at, and then kind of the middle one
- 39:15Speaker 3: and then there's a whole bunch of local mics and
- 39:17Speaker 3: parties and stuff. But but yeah, I still feel like
- 39:21Speaker 3: it's happening here in La. I got good advice from
- 39:23Speaker 3: people that said it's really good to get good at
- 39:27Speaker 3: comedy somewhere else and then come to La. I kind
- 39:31Speaker 3: of did it like the backwards way, where you know,
- 39:32Speaker 3: just in front of everyone. I started comedy stand up
- 39:35Speaker 3: a few years ago, like in LA, but luckily I
- 39:37Speaker 3: had had a few other I had friends here, and
- 39:39Speaker 3: I was I had a few connections and stuff, so
- 39:41Speaker 3: like I didn't feel like I was coming in blind.
- 39:43Speaker 3: But that's definitely like I would I think that that
- 39:45Speaker 3: person's advice is great again, totally right where if I
- 39:49Speaker 3: was doing it again, I would have really done comedy
- 39:52Speaker 3: for a few years in a different city and like
- 39:54Speaker 3: gotten more self confident and more you know, just confident
- 39:58Speaker 3: in my comedy abilities and then come to La and
- 40:00Speaker 3: you'll then you'll be like kind of into the mix
- 40:02Speaker 3: a little bit easier.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Gotcha. Well, And that's a fair point because I'm not
- 40:05Speaker 2: sure if you ever heard of they're mainly they're mainly
- 40:08Speaker 2: from Wisconsin, uh state the like Wisconsin's Table on the
- 40:12Speaker 2: Why I was trying to think a word of Charlie
- 40:14Speaker 2: Barron's he became a pretty big on TikTok and socials
- 40:20Speaker 2: and like he's a stand up comic now and like
- 40:23Speaker 2: like Kate, like my wife and I we've been to
- 40:25Speaker 2: his show and like it is absolutely hilarious. Like we're
- 40:28Speaker 2: like literally like crying like so hard. But at the
- 40:32Speaker 2: same time, but here's you know, at the same time,
- 40:33Speaker 2: like he's having to take like pauses in between like
- 40:36Speaker 2: his bits because a lot of what he does is
- 40:41Speaker 2: so Midwestern nerd that that's that's not even a word
- 40:45Speaker 2: that like like like like someone like California taxes, they
- 40:48Speaker 2: might not grasp it. It's like yeah, because because he's
- 40:52Speaker 2: doing these like mannerisms. We're like saying these like things
- 40:54Speaker 2: that like you know, like in Chicago, like Chicago or Illino, Wisconsin,
- 40:58Speaker 2: you know, big thing here. You know, if you're if
- 41:01Speaker 2: you're a Bears fan, you absolutely hate the Packers. And
- 41:03Speaker 2: if you're a Packers fan, first off, sorry for your loss. Secondly,
- 41:06Speaker 2: you hate the Bears, Yeah, tell which one I am.
- 41:08Speaker 2: But like he's like making these jokes about the Bears.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I'm like, Okay, those are funny, but like because I
- 41:12Speaker 2: get it, it's funny. But then he's like making these
- 41:14Speaker 2: like local jokes about like our gas stations and other things.
- 41:17Speaker 2: It's just it's good stuff. And like I'll never forget that.
- 41:19Speaker 2: We love the show. And if I'm wrong, you court.
- 41:22Speaker 2: But you know, like whenever like stand like comics have
- 41:24Speaker 2: like they do like uh lesay, like the tour, they
- 41:26Speaker 2: usually kind of like have the same routine. I know
- 41:28Speaker 2: they'll change some things up here and there, but like
- 41:30Speaker 2: I'm just like and like my wife like that was
- 41:32Speaker 2: so funny. I'm like, yeah, I don't know if that
- 41:34Speaker 2: would work in like San.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Diego, right, and I bet if I had to guess,
- 41:38Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know if those were like his
- 41:40Speaker 3: his longer bits. But I know anytime I'm in a
- 41:43Speaker 3: different city, or most people are in a different city,
- 41:45Speaker 3: they'll spend like a few hours that afternoon just kind
- 41:47Speaker 3: of looking at okay, like it's this reference for this
- 41:50Speaker 3: restaurant or you know, this is gonna make them laugh
- 41:52Speaker 3: that it's like this ridiculous grocery store that everyone goes
- 41:55Speaker 3: to there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah, yeah, I think
- 42:01Speaker 3: I feel like I mean, but I agree out here too.
- 42:03Speaker 3: It's like everyone is kind of like a sensitive snowflake.
- 42:06Speaker 3: So so a lot of the time, stuff even just
- 42:09Speaker 3: if you're joking, like stuff about mental health or you know,
- 42:12Speaker 3: normally dark humor that would get us all through kind
- 42:15Speaker 3: of quiets everyone here. And so I love doing different
- 42:18Speaker 3: cities because then people actually laugh and it's like a
- 42:21Speaker 3: little bit rougher, and then I'm like, okay, this this
- 42:23Speaker 3: does work. I'm just in LA, you know, so yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 3: I think he probably that's that's cool. I'll have to
- 42:29Speaker 3: check him out. And I feel like, I mean, I
- 42:32Speaker 3: think everyone has their pockets of cities. I tend to
- 42:36Speaker 3: like more of like the Midwestern or even like Texas
- 42:39Speaker 3: crowds and just more like real people. I like anytime
- 42:43Speaker 3: I kind of see, like a hipster crowd, I'm like,
- 42:46Speaker 3: oh god, here we go. You know, sometimes that's okay,
- 42:48Speaker 3: but that doesn't really tend to be my favorite crowd.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I also love like drunk wine moms in their fifties,
- 42:54Speaker 3: Like they tend to get my intentsive humor. So an anytime,
- 42:57Speaker 3: like my friend's parents come to the show, I'm like, okay,
- 42:59Speaker 3: this is gonna go. Well.
- 43:01Speaker 2: So, I mean, I'm a huge I can only i
- 43:04Speaker 2: can only like obnestly, like part of like what you
- 43:06Speaker 2: and other people do, like obviously a lot of it
- 43:08Speaker 2: is like you obviously want that crowd engagement. Like if
- 43:10Speaker 2: they're vibing with you, then it's like you don't even
- 43:12Speaker 2: have to do your whole bit. You can just do
- 43:14Speaker 2: like three things and like the crowds like interacting with
- 43:16Speaker 2: you in a funny, positive way, then you yata you
- 43:17Speaker 2: know what I mean.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. I just did a brewery and
- 43:22Speaker 3: I've really been challenging myself to do different types of
- 43:25Speaker 3: crowds and be like, okay, you just don't always play
- 43:27Speaker 3: it safe. Just stuff like that. I'm like, Okay, they
- 43:29Speaker 3: like me because they know I'm actively getting like you know,
- 43:32Speaker 3: someone just like shut their whole apartment down because they
- 43:35Speaker 3: didn't want to hear me any longer.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Oh lord, well, I do want to respect from your time.
- 43:43Speaker 2: We are coming up near the hour here, and you're
- 43:49Speaker 2: so nice to talk to. I appreciate it, and that
- 43:50Speaker 2: that's why I love doing the podcast. It's like like
- 43:52Speaker 2: and I said, like this year, like I'm definitely gonna
- 43:54Speaker 2: branch out more, and like I've been really reaching out
- 43:56Speaker 2: and they're not paying me any way. I've always say this,
- 43:58Speaker 2: I reach out the many people on pod Match, and
- 43:59Speaker 2: I've conversation with you, Like I'm like, I'm not saying.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's good. Doesn't that feel so so like
- 44:06Speaker 3: long too when you're just kind of talking to someone
- 44:08Speaker 3: and you're like, get me off of this.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but no, no, I'm glad you feel that way,
- 44:12Speaker 2: but yeah, like I've been really trying to branch out
- 44:14Speaker 2: and like, and that's and I appreciate you saying because
- 44:16Speaker 2: everyone everyone I've had on here so far it said
- 44:17Speaker 2: like yeah, they they can't really how fast it's gone by,
- 44:20Speaker 2: and they've had a good time. But also like yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 2: it just feel like a natural conversation, which is like
- 44:22Speaker 2: I know.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Okay, I feel like I'm talking to a friend.
- 44:24Speaker 2: That's so cool, right, But like yeah, and that's like
- 44:26Speaker 2: that's kind of what the theme is. Like yeah, like
- 44:28Speaker 2: like yeah, as I told you, Like yeah, it's kind
- 44:30Speaker 2: of it's not bar theme, but a kind of bar
- 44:32Speaker 2: thing where it's like you can walk into a bar,
- 44:33Speaker 2: you can be drinking high cold H two, or you'd
- 44:35Speaker 2: be having a Manhattan you're having a casual conversation with
- 44:37Speaker 2: someone you just met or someone you know for a
- 44:39Speaker 2: long time, and like that's what That's what I always
- 44:41Speaker 2: want this podcast to be and it's going to remain
- 44:44Speaker 2: that rather.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you're doing it.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I do want to give you the floor here. I
- 44:49Speaker 2: know I kind of talked a little bit like what
- 44:50Speaker 2: you're doing and like what you are involved with, but
- 44:52Speaker 2: I want to make sure you get your time to
- 44:55Speaker 2: essentially promote anything you got going on socials and all
- 44:58Speaker 2: that stuff before we get out of here today.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Yay, thank you so much. Well I'm also so yeah,
- 45:02Speaker 3: I do stand up all around southern California. I'll be
- 45:07Speaker 3: in New Orleans in November. I'm super excited about that.
- 45:10Speaker 3: And then some East Coast dates coming up like later
- 45:13Speaker 3: on after that, after the holidays and then I'm it's
- 45:17Speaker 3: not out yet, but I'm giving a sneak peek. But
- 45:19Speaker 3: I'm very excited that I'll be having a new podcast
- 45:22Speaker 3: come out called Self Helped, where it's just made and
- 45:25Speaker 3: two other comedian other comedian ladies and we're reviewing self
- 45:29Speaker 3: help books and then maybe trying it out, maybe seeing
- 45:32Speaker 3: where it doesn't work. So that will be really fun.
- 45:35Speaker 3: That is through there's a network called Gold Digital Comedy
- 45:39Speaker 3: and I think Rachel Draft from like SNL is one
- 45:41Speaker 3: of the advisors or something. So anyway, very long story
- 45:44Speaker 3: short that will be coming out soon. And yeah, all
- 45:46Speaker 3: my stuff is on my Instagram for the most part,
- 45:49Speaker 3: which is Meryl Klimo.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Well, Meryl, it was a pleasure having you in the
- 45:54Speaker 2: canteen this evening. As always, you can find us at
- 45:57Speaker 2: Chuck's Canteen on your socials. I want to reach out
- 46:00Speaker 2: other than pod match and reach out to me on
- 46:02Speaker 2: my email at Chucks Camp or not at so I
- 46:05Speaker 2: did every time I square Chucks Canty at gmail dot com.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Thank you for joined us for episode one seventy four.

- 46:14Speaker 2: said ilways try to like siend up with either a joker,
