- 0:00This mic's for Stephen. It's too tall
- 0:01for me. I don't know if you can you hear
- 0:03me? Am I good? Is that even on? Um, you
- 0:06know, first and foremost, what a what a
- 0:09rewarding season for
- 0:11for me personally. Um, and I don't say
- 0:13that because we won 21 games and we got
- 0:15to the NIT, but it was rewarding that I
- 0:17got to coach these guys. We had a
- 0:19special group of guys. Um, you know, I
- 0:22don't know, you know, if you know a lot
- 0:24about our program, we got underdog
- 0:25mentality. We um you know our
- 0:29our roster salary in terms of putting it
- 0:32together is as low as there is in the
- 0:34country period. It's lowest in the Sunb
- 0:36Belt. It's low. So these guys come here
- 0:38and it's a credit to them what they do.
- 0:41Like this guy beside me, he's the Sunb
- 0:42Belt player of the year. He put us on
- 0:44his back all season long. These guys
- 0:46came here to play at South Alabama. And
- 0:48in college basketball, that's a rarity.
- 0:50That that does not happen very many
- 0:52places. And we understand what we have.
- 0:54We understand we're underdogs. We
- 0:56understand all that. Um, but you know,
- 0:59it
- 1:01I said this when I talked to one of the
- 1:03other deals. Uh, when I was a kid
- 1:05growing up, we didn't we didn't come
- 1:07from much. And I used to go to school
- 1:10and you'd see what people had on their
- 1:11shoes or whatever they had. And I used
- 1:14to go home and ask my my mom, "Hey, are
- 1:16we rich or are we poor?" And she would
- 1:20say, "We're rich in love."
- 1:22>> And it our program is rich in love. It's
- 1:25rich in culture. It's rich in who we
- 1:27are. And that's how we've been able to
- 1:29fight through all the things going on in
- 1:31the new age of college basketball. And
- 1:32I'm proud of that. I'm proud to get to
- 1:34coach guys like him that not only got
- 1:37their first crack at division one
- 1:38basketball and showed that they belong,
- 1:41they showed that he showed that he could
- 1:42excel. This is one of the best guards in
- 1:44college basketball, period. Um, and
- 1:46there's a lot of guys in our locker room
- 1:48that have stepped up and shown that. Um,
- 1:50so I I just want to thank our guys and
- 1:53say how blessed and thankful I am to get
- 1:55to coach these guys. It's been a really
- 1:56fun year for me. Um, in terms of the
- 1:59game, they they did a nice job of of
- 2:05hurting us on the glass, which we knew
- 2:07coming in was a concern. Their size and
- 2:09athleticism and they got power for SEC
- 2:12front line. We don't see that, you know,
- 2:14we don't see that type of size and that
- 2:15type of athleticism. Um, I thought
- 2:17Overton stepped up the second half and
- 2:19made some deep ones, some tough ones.
- 2:21And he's a he's a winning kid. I said
- 2:23that. I've watched him all year. I've
- 2:24watched Auburn. Got a ton of respect for
- 2:26their program. Ton of respect for Steve
- 2:30and and Coach Pearl before that. And um,
- 2:33Overton Overton's a winning kid and he
- 2:35stepped up and made some really, really
- 2:37big ones when they need it the most.
- 2:41>> Questions.
- 2:43>> Chase from from Cleveland. Do you did
- 2:45you know Keshan? I mean you guys kind of
- 2:46went back and forth there in the first
- 2:48half bucket for bucket history.
- 2:50>> Yeah, I know Keshan. We played against
- 2:52each other in high school. We cool.
- 2:58>> I guess for coach Travis, you guys got,
- 3:00you know, came out started really well
- 3:01defensively. What What did they kind of
- 3:03do differently in the second half that
- 3:05gave y'all some problems?
- 3:06>> Made shots. They uh they made shots. I
- 3:09don't think it was anything
- 3:10schematically. They got us on a couple I
- 3:11call them a purple screen where they
- 3:12screen outside of our guards and we
- 3:15didn't get under and up well enough and
- 3:16we didn't squeeze from the wing. So they
- 3:18got us two ways that way a couple times
- 3:20but um they came out and they really
- 3:22shot it. I mean 11 of 18 versus five of
- 3:2526. I mean when you think about that and
- 3:27some of the shots were similar to the
- 3:28first half they were deep. Um but I
- 3:32thought our energy dipped too. I thought
- 3:34we got tired. Um, we're we're obviously
- 3:36limited for the depth with Olsson out
- 3:38and Pton Law has been out all year and
- 3:40we we're limited. So, and I asked these
- 3:42guys to play really hard and they give
- 3:44everything they have to it. It wasn't
- 3:47the fact that they gave in. They never
- 3:49gave in. We didn't give in all year. It
- 3:51was the fact that we got worn down a
- 3:53little bit and um and then we didn't see
- 3:55the ball go in a whole lot. I thought we
- 3:56got some quality looks and it didn't go
- 3:58in and and we let that affect our
- 4:00defense a little bit and you just can't
- 4:01do that. Anything
- 4:06else
- 4:08>> I guess for Chase early in the game and
- 4:10then you know even a little second half
- 4:11too you kind of got a rhythm getting to
- 4:13the basket I guess what did you you know
- 4:14what did you see on those instances?
- 4:17>> Uh well that's pretty much my game
- 4:19getting to the basket so that's what I'm
- 4:21trying to do every time I get the ball
- 4:22in my hands.
- 4:27>> Thanks.
- 4:28>> Thank you guys. Appreciate it.
