- 0:00From March 2027, apple must open australian iPhones to rival app stores. This is MAG 7 Daily,
- 0:07episode 30. After that court order, meta's quarter, and a new share class, then a bigger
- 0:12foldable order, then one assistant on two car screens. Australia's federal court set
- 0:18the start at noon in Melbourne on March 1st, 2027, for users whose apple account region
- 0:23is Australia. The order follows in August 2025 finding that Apple misused its market power over
- 0:30distribution and payments. Developer program members worldwide can join. Apple cannot charge
- 0:36for access to rival stores or direct downloads, and it has to hand over tools on substantially
- 0:41the same terms as its own store. It cannot force its payment system, transaction reports,
- 0:47or an audit of other payments. On App Store apps, fees for those other payments are
- 0:52capped at the physical goods rate plus genuine extra cost.
- 0:56Outside apps still need a security or privacy scan and notarization by Apple or a qualified
- 1:01third party.
- 1:03Epic Games told Reuters that Fortnite comes back to Australia's app store today, and
- 1:08that order does not wait for March.
- 1:10Australia was the only country left out when Fortnite returned worldwide in May.
- 1:15Meta's quarter is the capital spending print.
- 1:18Yesterday the open question was whether that spending would move.
- 1:21Today met a narrowed 2026 capital expenditure to $135 to $145 billion from $130 to $145 billion.
- 1:31Revenue was $64.60 billion, up 26%. Family daily active people averaged $3.64 billion
- 1:40in September, up 3%. Add Impressions rose 10%, and the average price per ad rose 14%.
- 1:48Costs were 51.61 billion dollars, up 68 percent, including a $9.89 billion charge.
- 1:55That charge sits on an August deal with 52 attorneys general over teen mental health
- 2:00and social media, with payments of up to about $18.59 billion.
- 2:05Strip the charge out and operating income would have been $22.88 billion, not $12.99 billion,
- 2:12and diluted earnings $7.40, not $3.83.
- 2:17The quarter's capital spending, including finance lease principle, was $34.91 billion.
- 2:24Fullyer expenses are now $175-179 billion.
- 2:29Reality labs losses are guided to $18-19 billion, lower than 2025.
- 2:354th quarter revenue is guided to 73-76 billion dollars with foreign exchange
- 2:41about a 1% headwind and the 4th quarter tax rate to 15-17%. Cash and
- 2:48marketable securities were 82.45 billion dollars. Operating cash flow was 32.79
- 2:54billion. Free cash flow was negative 2.12 billion. Headcount was 66,775, down 15
- 3:04FX leaders also reports a $25 billion new Mexico penalty over misleading data privacy practices.
- 3:11Bloomberg reports a new non-voting share class that could help pay for acquisitions and other costs.
- 3:17The information reports the overhaul was shaped by expectations of raising hundreds of billions of dollars,
- 3:23and by a proposed California wealth tax.
- 3:25Mark Zuckerberg said the quarter hit major milestones toward personal superintelligence for everyone,
- 3:31including Muse and Muse Wonder, which he called the first frontier model, Apple's foldable
- 3:37order book moved. Digitime says Foxconn and component makers were told to raise iPhone
- 3:43Duo output by about 44% from 9.7 million units to 14 million across a full 12 months, not
- 3:51just the rest of 2026. Apple last week called pre-order demand nothing short of extraordinary.
- 3:57In 30 minutes of pre-orders opening on October 16th, United States shipping estimates hit January 25th on every configuration.
- 4:06Digitime says the higher target still depends on assembly after earlier trouble with assembly, displays, and hinges.
- 4:13It forecasts global foldable shipments up 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027 against 7.4% in 2025.
- 4:24The phone launches October 23rd, starting at $1,999 in the United States.
- 4:31Cognizant, in an Education Times report, has put 18,000 engineers on Google's Gemini,
- 4:37framed as tools for businesses.
- 4:39Megazone Cloud, Chosun Bizz reports, has a resale nod for Amazon's Gov Cloud, and is pointing
- 4:45it at United States public sector and defense buyers.
- 4:48A century and a half of Kia's chemistry data is coming into Microsoft co-pilot, R&D World
- 4:54Reports, as a research reference set inside that assistant.
- 4:58NVIDIA has widened Cosmos with training tools, simulation checkpoints, and data factory
- 5:03blueprints for world models used in physical AI.
- 5:07It says the platform sits in the top five on six open model leaderboards.
- 5:11What cuts against the Australian opening is that Apple still notarizes outside apps,
- 5:16or requires a qualified third party to do it, and can still pull an outside app for harmful content,
- 5:22a real security risk, or the law. Apple told Reuters it will appeal and ask for a pause
- 5:28on intellectual property and store security. Between February 1st and February 15th, it can apply,
- 5:34with evidence to push enforcement to May 3rd, 2027. Google and Apple now share a voice on the dashboard.
- 5:41In 2019, Maps Traffic Reports lived only on phones.
- 5:46Early 2024, Hazard Pins reached CarPlay.
- 5:50Later that year, they reached Android Auto.
- 5:52Today, Google put Gemini inside Maps on CarPlay.
- 5:56The Mac observer calls that the first built-in voice for this navigation app on that screen.
- 6:01The United States has it now.
- 6:03A wider release is underway.
- 6:05On an active route, an icon on the right edge opens Gemini.
- 6:08You can ask for a park with city views, a time that is not crowded and stays fair, then
- 6:14a route that skips tolls.
- 6:15The same voice can report a disruption.
- 6:18That screen now matches Android Auto and the voice tools added to the iPhone Maps app
- 6:22last year.
- 6:24Before today, those tools stayed on the handset.
- 6:27Bogdan Popa at Auto Evolution already has it on an iPhone 15 Pro in Europe.
- 6:32A follow-up keeps its subject.
- 6:33best cappuccino nearby, then whether it is expensive, then navigate there.
- 6:39He found CarPlay more refined than Android Auto, where Gemini has been buggy since late 2025.
- 6:45Last month Google retired assistant on Android Auto, so there is no switchback.
- 6:50Drivers had called it to chatty, and some said it could not call 911 or place a phone call.
- 6:56On CarPlay, ordinary speech can file heavy traffic without a set phrase.
- 7:00Apple owns the glass, Google owns maps, Gemini, and Ways. Ways still takes objects in the road,
- 7:07broken lights, floods, and potholes. Maps stays with accidents, road works, and speed cameras,
- 7:13and now also pulls police reports from Ways. For Apple, a Google app gains a conversational layer
- 7:19the day before the duo goes on sale, and Apple is not shipping the model. For Google,
- 7:24CarPlay is no longer the screen where that voice was missing.
- 7:28Jensen Huang told the UK NeoCloud end-scale to work around the clock after early setbacks
- 7:34getting some data centers online.
- 7:36Bloomberg reports.
- 7:38Trending topics reports deep-mined researchers have quit Google over military AI deals.
- 7:43Telecom paper reports three business and AWS have opened an AI marketplace in Hong Kong.
- 7:48NVIDIA says a European commerce platform on its open models cut inference costs by 90%.
- 7:55NVIDIA says Revolute is rebuilding on a foundation model called Pragma, on NVIDIA computing using
- 8:02CUDF. NVIDIA says European users are putting Earth to open models under local forecasts for
- 8:08energy, insurance and transport, with a global storm picture above them. Home views tabletop and
- 8:14models, each $299 in the United States, launch November 13th.
- 8:20The Australian store and payment orders take effect at noon Melbourne time on March 1st,
- 8:252027.
- 8:26Before we go, watch February 1st through February 15th, when Apple can ask to push that Australian
- 8:32order out to May 3rd.
