Transcript
- 0:00We're back a gamp of the pavilion court side with the Luke Murray. You
- 0:03kind assists. I get some help looking at the statue because sometimes I can't
- 0:06make heads or tails of what just happened. But coach, it looks good
- 0:11in the bottom line. Eighty five fifty six, the three point shooting,
- 0:14we liked. The assist to turnover became a good number. It was ugly
- 0:18early, but you get twenty three assists in the game, and you have
- 0:21to be pleased with that number. Yeah, absolutely. I mean we talk
- 0:24a ton about the percentage of our made baskets and how many of those are
- 0:27assisted, So you know, for a while there, I think we had
- 0:29twenty three assists with like twenty seven or twenty eight made field goals, which
- 0:32was an awesome number. But yeah, we're really happy with that. Like
- 0:35you said, we had five turnovers I think at the first media timeout,
- 0:38and you know, all in all, I thought we did a great job
- 0:40taking care of the ball from that point on. Yeah, every game is
- 0:43different, right, So you get Newton shut out in the first half,
- 0:46you get Samson Johnson with two files, both of them with two files.
- 0:49I gotta go to the bench. You don't know, what do you where
- 0:52do you go at that point? What's the decision making process like when two
- 0:56guys have to go out because of foul trouble. Yeah, you know,
- 0:59it's difficult. Obviously, We've tried to play Alex a little bit at the
- 1:02five when Samsung goes out, and we'll play Steph at the four. Steph
- 1:06has the physicality and size to guard you know, most fours out there.
- 1:08But I thought, uh, Hassan and Solo did a great job of giving
- 1:11us a lift in that first half. You know, Solo knocked down a
- 1:14big three for us when we were pretty stagnant, and a and a pull
- 1:17up as well. And Hassan had five assists and no turnovers at halftime,
- 1:19which was a big step forward for him, and he continued to play well
- 1:23in the second half. So those guys were huge. And then I thought
- 1:26Alex, you know, when he got back in the game, gave us
- 1:27a big punch. We were really static for you know, I don't know
- 1:30ten minutes or so, but I think that last seven or eight minutes of
- 1:34the first half we really got ourselves going, Yeah, he looks like he's
- 1:37shooting the ball better. The last couple games he had that finger thing.
- 1:38We had his fingers taped up. I mean, for any shooter, it
- 1:42just gets in your head a little bit. You can't help it. But
- 1:45he shot the ball well here seven for nine, three for four from outside
- 1:48of the ark. Yeah, he really cut well, you know, knocked
- 1:49down a couple threes early and then got that last one on the assist from
- 1:53Jalen. But yeah, you know, again I've talked about it on here
- 1:56before. I mean, he's an amazing shooter. I mean, every single
- 1:59day that we shoot in pract this, you know, he leads our team.
- 2:00He and Cam you know, win all of our drills for the most
- 2:04part. So you know, he had a game a couple of games ago
- 2:06against Pine Bluff where he made six. I know, you know, he's
- 2:07kind of been a little bit up and down, but I wouldn't be surprised
- 2:10at all if he gets really hot. Hey, the fast break points.
- 2:13Dan Hurley talked about it before the game, so we got to get out
- 2:15in transwers. We had tried to get some fast break points. Notably,
- 2:19he got shut out at Seaton Hall didn't get one fast break point, which
- 2:22is amazing. You get twenty two here, tonight, I thought the fast
- 2:24break was running pretty good. Yeah, I think so, you know,
- 2:27I think we can get better. It's an area that we've talked about a
- 2:30bunch. I mean, we're in the middle of the pack, you know,
- 2:31one to eighty five to two hundred in transition opportunities in the country,
- 2:36which is really not good enough. So we've really been harping it the last
- 2:38couple of days in practice, or the last seven or eight days I guess
- 2:42since we've been on break. So it was nice to see, and I
- 2:44think we can get better at it. You know, we've talked a lot
- 2:46with guys like Steph to try to give some of that Andre Jackson roll as
- 2:49guys who can defensive rebound and then and then push the ball and start our
- 2:52transition game. And speaking of Steph, Castle fourteen points six of seven does
- 2:55a lot of things. Seven assists in this game for rebound. He's he's
- 3:00got other worldly athleticism, sometimes sneaky athleticism, doesn't he Yeah, I mean
- 3:05he's just so strong, you know. I think that's to me, the
- 3:07biggest thing that jumps out is not necessarily jumping over the top of people,
- 3:10but just his physicality and his strength, you know, six for seven.
- 3:14You know, right at the rim, he's able to score through contact and
- 3:16a lot of times when you really need a bucket, he's a guy that
- 3:19you can rely on to make shots in and around the basket. And seven
- 3:22assists was a nice number. I think, you know, when we go
- 3:23back and watch the film, there was probably a number of other opportunities that
- 3:27we had in the open court where we had either transition looks for threes or
- 3:30guys at the rim. But I thought, all in all, you know,
- 3:32especially with Tristian struggling to get going a little bit, I thought everybody
- 3:35took a big step forward and finally, uh, you know, three point
- 3:38defense for Yukon has been you know, I don't know what you can you
- 3:42can give me a term for that, but this team's a good three point
- 3:45shooting team. They're third in the Big East. They go two for thirteen
- 3:47tonight. How much credit do you give your defense for that two for thirteen
- 3:52number? A lot of credit. I mean, I think, you know,
- 3:53for us, we don't talk so much about the percentage. I know
- 3:55that that's something that jumps out to people as teams shooting a high percentage from
- 4:00for us. It's more about the number of threes that they make, you
- 4:02know, and what percentage of the distribution of their points come from three.
- 4:06So you know, again our three point field goal defense percentage has not been
- 4:11great, but I think the number of threes that were giving up the teams
- 4:13for the most part is solid. But to your point, I mean,
- 4:15Odin and Carter are really good shooters. Terry's a capable shooter. Ramy is
- 4:19a really good shooter who made three threes in a row in the first half
- 4:21last game. So Odin, Carter and Ramie only getting off seven attempts is
- 4:27just as important as how many makes. So I thought that was big time.
- 4:30Yeah, that's a good point. And then hold Carter to one for
- 4:31nine, Henley two for ten. I mean, these guys who score some
- 4:34points, Odin one for five, I mean, that's that's got to be
- 4:39credit to your defense overall. Yeah, it was nice to see. You
- 4:42know, those guys are good players. You know, Henley's a tough matchup.
- 4:44He can get in the paint. You know, Carter is an established
- 4:46player who's had some big scoring games. You know, I thought Nelson heard
- 4:49us a little bit inside. He drew ten fouls. You know, we
- 4:51had some tough matchups in there where we were going to trap and we were
- 4:55late with some of those. And Fisher's a good player. I mean,
- 4:57Fishler was a really highly recruited player out of high school. Went to Texas
- 5:00Tech his first year, so he's a talented guy. They have some nice
- 5:03pieces, but I was pretty proud with the defensive effort. All right,
- 5:06much need to win because you've got two in a road. I know you
- 5:09don't look ahead much, but you got two in a row here in a
- 5:12row. Butler and Xavier. Yeah, I mean I've been watching those guys.
- 5:15I mean those are both my scouts coming up Perdue. I mean,
- 5:17Butler and Xavier are good teams. You know, Butler's playing really well.
- 5:21We'll see what they do with Saint John's tonight. But they're ten and three.
- 5:25They have four transfers in the starting lineup that have really kind of shaped
- 5:29their team this year. And then you know, Xavier is an excellent team
- 5:31at Cintas Center, you know, one of the best in the country over
- 5:33the last twenty or so years playing at home. So we know we've got
- 5:35some big challenges coming up. All right, We're looking forward to it.
- 5:38Luke appreciate it. That's Luke Murray, you kind of assistant coach Husky's winning
- 5:42eighty five to fifty six
