Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: A new study into unhealthy eating. In nineteen ninety, here's
- 0:04Speaker 2: a number for you. We imported sixteen kilograms of ultra
- 0:08Speaker 2: processed foods per person per year twenty twenty three, one
- 0:12Speaker 2: hundred and four kilograms. NICKI heart nutritionous with us this morning, NICKI,
- 0:16Speaker 2: good morning, Hi Ryan.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Isn't it beggars belief? Really? Doesn't it?
- 0:20Speaker 2: It does? What are we talking about? Fizzy drinks and stuff?
- 0:24Speaker 1: We're talking ultra processed foods that you probably don't even
- 0:27Speaker 1: think that you're eating. That's ultra process So it's high
- 0:32Speaker 1: unhealthy fats and sugar and salty food. No, big manufacturers
- 0:36Speaker 1: are paying billions of dollars to make you want to
- 0:39Speaker 1: eat efforts. So you know, it's really hard out there
- 0:42Speaker 1: for people to make healthy choices. We've been bombarded.
- 0:45Speaker 2: When you say I won't necessarily know I'm eating it,
- 0:48Speaker 2: give me an example, because I know a cannon coke's
- 0:51Speaker 2: not going to be good for me.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's canned foods that we bring in. It's
- 0:58Speaker 1: packets of biscuits and crackers. You think, oh, well, they've
- 1:01Speaker 1: got a health claim on them, but they're disguising their
- 1:04Speaker 1: product because what they're doing is they're making you want
- 1:07Speaker 1: it by mouthfield. They've spent millions of dollars making you
- 1:11Speaker 1: like the product that you want it more and more,
- 1:14Speaker 1: so they upsize it and they market it to you
- 1:18Speaker 1: with pretty colors so that kids are looking at it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: They do it all by stealth, they absolutely do.
- 1:24Speaker 2: But we don't just have stomachs, we have brains. Surely
- 1:27Speaker 2: we can, you know, we can distinguish between a chicken
- 1:30Speaker 2: nugget and a piece of chicken.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but don't forget that this is being marketed to
- 1:36Speaker 1: a lot of vulnerable communities. They put it in a
- 1:42Speaker 1: way that children get to see it so that they
- 1:45Speaker 1: come to you wanting it. It's really there's a lot
- 1:50Speaker 1: of money and time goes into this that makes these
- 1:53Speaker 1: children want it. Our races, our rates of childhood obesity
- 1:57Speaker 1: are going through the roof, And you know, I find
- 1:59Speaker 1: it kind of paradoxical that big farm we've got big
- 2:03Speaker 1: food manufacturing spending billions on this, and then we've got
- 2:07Speaker 1: big farmer spending billions on dollar dollars on GLP one injections.
- 2:12Speaker 1: So we've got some on some side making huge amounts
- 2:15Speaker 1: of money making us want and eat foods to make
- 2:18Speaker 1: us un healthy, and then we've got the other side
- 2:20Speaker 1: selling us injections to make us lose weight, that big
- 2:24Speaker 1: food industry.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Cause so it's crazy, but we're we're I mean, we
- 2:28Speaker 2: have brains, but we do it. You know, like the
- 2:31Speaker 2: Wendy's goes in the belt goes out the way GOV
- 2:34Speaker 2: goes in the belt comes back and does it actually
- 2:37Speaker 2: matter what we eat? You know, if we have Waygov in,
- 2:40Speaker 2: our problem solved.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Nikki Oh no, because like these are those are creating
- 2:45Speaker 1: highly community like non communicable diseases, you know, like it's
- 2:49Speaker 1: it's hurting our people. I just think we need to
- 2:53Speaker 1: be better at our regulations. We need to you know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I just don't like the idea that in in communities
- 3:01Speaker 1: where people are vulnerable, big food industry goes in and
- 3:06Speaker 1: they will color the side of a dairy in bright
- 3:10Speaker 1: colors so that children go in and buy these drinks
- 3:13Speaker 1: and packets of food because it looks pretty. I think
- 3:18Speaker 1: it's got a be tough on it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: We really appreciate your time this morning. Thanks for being
