- 0:00All right, coach coming off one game Versushu mass skated to a tie,
- 0:07got the extra point with the shootout win. Big big weekend coming up,
- 0:11and welcome and welcoming Number seven main to the Xcel Center. Just want to
- 0:15get your thoughts on this upcoming weekend. Yeah, I think it's going to
- 0:18be a great weekend. Uh. They're extremely talented club. I think what
- 0:24Ben's done with the program has been remarkable. Uh, the deep end goal.
- 0:28They've had two goalies that they've been playing lately that have given them.
- 0:31You know, we all know about Osman, but boys has been playing pretty
- 0:34well. Their d are very mobile, you know, when they have some
- 0:39experience back there with Brazil. Uh, I believe he's a third year player
- 0:43for them. And it all starts up front with the NATO line. Uh,
- 0:48they really got us last time they were they were excellent. So we'll
- 0:52have our hands full. We got to stay out of the box, that's
- 0:54for sure. They're they're a team that can make you pay on the play.
- 1:00So we've got to play disciplined and smart hockey this weekend. Joe,
- 1:04you want to start us off. Thanks morning, cav How are you good
- 1:08morning, John? Good? Thanks? What makes the NATO so good.
- 1:14And obviously it's not just them. Breen does a does a great job on
- 1:18that line as well. Yeah, Breen's been a great player in this league
- 1:22for a while. And uh, they just they've played together for a long
- 1:26time. They know each other, they play off each other well. And
- 1:30I mean Bradley's a first round draft pick for a reason, you know.
- 1:34Uh, and Josh probably would be too if he wasn't undersized. So,
- 1:38uh, when you get brothers that can read off each other and you know,
- 1:44are really dangerous off the rush, you got to manage the puck extremely
- 1:49well. That's gonna be our biggest you know, key probably against that line
- 1:56especially, we cannot have ah, Like, we had turnovers high at our
- 2:00blue line twice and they made us pay last time we played. Hudgin's played
- 2:07well, but hasn't seen the puck going then that much. How important was
- 2:09it for him to get that? Obviously for the team too, but get
- 2:14that game time goal that you mass. Yeah, I think it was really
- 2:16big for him. He's been I told him this week, I said,
- 2:19puck's are gonna start going your way because he has played extremely well and had
- 2:23excellent looks. He had two or three great a's against Harvard that didn't go.
- 2:29But he just plays the game the right way and when you do that,
- 2:34the hockey gods will take care of you at some point. Jake in
- 2:38the shootout, obviously he had You only had one other shootout this year and
- 2:43you only had two shots and Sam movie and Maddie took them. But what
- 2:46was it about Jake that you had seen that you that you put him out
- 2:50there. I mean, I know he's got great hands as a defenseman,
- 2:53but what else did you see? Well, we do a shootout every week,
- 2:57uh, you know, the last practice before we play, and uh,
- 3:02he just continually scores in it. So it was just a kind of
- 3:07a hunch. You know, he's been pretty good lately, so we play,
- 3:10we put him out there. Thank you, Darren. We'll go over
- 3:15to you. Do you got a chance to see Yon's debut at in Calgary
- 3:21last night? I just saw him going on the ice for the warm up
- 3:24by himself on social media. I did not get that game. I was
- 3:30in I was in bed early last night. Damn. I didn't even see
- 3:32the end of the BU Northeastern game. But when he was here, what
- 3:38did you see from him that that since translated into becoming an NHL player.
- 3:46Well, he certainly had the size and the strength. He was an excellent
- 3:51skater, very powerful, could shoot it a ton, you know, had
- 3:54good skill. I think his game he just had to mature it, just
- 4:00you know, I wish we could have kept him here a little bit longer.
- 4:03But you know, the two years we had him, he was an
- 4:05exemplary kid, excellent in school, Like he was like a three five student,
- 4:11really really strong student, and coachable kid. So I'm extremely happy for
- 4:18him that he got his opportunity last night. You've got plenty of guys that
- 4:24play in the American League and haven't made it to the NHL. So what's
- 4:29the differentiator between those guys that get that call up and the guys that never
- 4:34make it? You know, sometimes it's just lockdown. Sometimes you get a
- 4:40guy. You know, there's been situations where your American Hockey League coach gets
- 4:45promoted to the NHL. But he really liked you in the American League and
- 4:48he brings you up. You know, sometimes his injuries and you get your
- 4:54chance and you play really well. Other times it's just like you just keep
- 5:00playing well and getting better and improving, and they have no choice but to
- 5:03call you up. So I don't think there's one certain thing or another that
- 5:09delineates between an American Hockey League player and an you know, NHL Hockey League
- 5:14player. All those guys are pretty good if you're playing in one of those
- 5:18two leagues, but the NHL is the best for a reason. Andrew will
- 5:26jump over to you, thy keV. You mentioned last week when you were
- 5:30getting ready when matthew Wood was coming back, how grueling World Juniors was.
- 5:38What did you think of his performance Friday? It seems like he might have
- 5:42got a little gassed in that game. And how is how is he looking
- 5:45this week in practice? He's looked back to normal this week in practice.
- 5:48He I would agree with you it was probably it was a little tired on
- 5:55Friday night, although I actually thought he might have got better as a game
- 6:00went on. He started really slow, and I thought he maybe got a
- 6:05little bit better as the game went on. But we gave him a few
- 6:08days off, you know, just totally off as skates and try to re
- 6:13energize him here a little bit. But he just he loves playing, Andrew.
- 6:16He doesn't want he doesn't want to take time off. I'm making him,
- 6:20and he's begrudgingly taken some time off, but he wants to go out
- 6:25there. He's a rinker at and he just loves being on the ice.
- 6:30Go ahead, Joe. Thanks. Obviously, we had talked earlier cav about
- 6:35Tom and Messinio getting up into the play, and he's had two assists in
- 6:40each of his last two games. What is it about his offensive skill set
- 6:44that's kind of come to the four lately? Yeah, Well, as all
- 6:47starts with his legs. He skates so well, so he can jump into
- 6:54the play and create odd man rushes with his feet. But he also shoots
- 6:58the puck extremely well. And you know, the past he made to Percival
- 7:03was a really nice play to send him in on the breakaway. So I
- 7:08just think he keeps getting better, Joe. You know, from where he
- 7:13was last year at this time to where he is now, it's been fun
- 7:15to watch his development. And you mentioned Jake he gets his goals and bunches.
- 7:21He did that last year and it seems like he's in another streak this
- 7:26year. Yeah, I hope it continues this weekend. What's what does he
- 7:31have four goal four games in a row of a goal or something. Yes,
- 7:34yeah, yeah, well let's make it five Friday night. What has
- 7:40he gotten better at calf from last year this year? You know, I
- 7:46think last year, like every typical freshman, he kind of deferred to older
- 7:49kids and maybe played a back seat where you know, times where he could
- 7:55shoot the pucket pass it. And I think he's just getting more comfortable with
- 7:59his role on the team now and comfortable with himself as a player and has
- 8:05confident that if I get a chance, I'm gonna shoot it. I don't
- 8:07necessarily have to pass this time. Thank you, go ahead, Dan.
- 8:15Any chance Jake Blue makes his debut this weekend, he is cleared to play,
- 8:24So there is a chance. We haven't decided yet on the lineup for
- 8:26Friday night, but there's certainly a chance. Yeah, he's cleared by the
- 8:31training staff to play. Then I think he had three guys go out with
- 8:37uh or at least come to the bench with an injury at some point with
- 8:41personval Capone and Black. Are all those three guys good or any of them
- 8:46dealing with anything? They're all I think they're all good right now. They're
- 8:50all good, awesome. Well, anything else for coach guys awesome. Well,
- 8:56thank you, coach, appreciate it. Thanks you have a good date.
- 9:00Thanks again. Yeah.
