- 0:00Final segment with Gino, and we've got Dead Antonelli coming on and talk national
- 0:03women's college basketball, you know, rather than basketball. I want to talk
- 0:07about the European trip because we didn't really talk about it on the first show.
- 0:11And you've done a number of these yourself with the various teams. How
- 0:17did this compare to some of the other trips that you took me you went
- 0:20to some different places, but you also went to Italy as well. Yeah,
- 0:25we were in places that you know we've been, we've not been to
- 0:30previously. We we took maybe one of the youngest teams we've ever had,
- 0:39you know going over there, I should say young, and you know,
- 0:43inexperienced players that had not played college basketball. The other difference the competition this
- 0:52time may have been except for the one game we played in Venice, I'm
- 0:59sorry, in Bologne, maybe the last game that we played. I believe
- 1:03except for that game, it might have been the least competitive teams that we
- 1:07played. So that's going to have to be addressed on our next trip if
- 1:11that's where we go, or no matter where we go. But the overriding
- 1:17thing is that every trip succeeds in what we're trying to accomplish, you know,
- 1:23we we want to get our players in a different environment. We want
- 1:26to get them exposed to a variety of things they wouldn't expose themselves to.
- 1:33We want to get our freshmen acclimated to this is what it's like to play
- 1:38an actual game, you know. This is the time when you can find
- 1:44out as much as you can about other other players on your team, spend
- 1:49more time with your teammates. So there's there's a there's a similarity to every
- 1:57trip because the main objective, and especially like the last night that we were
- 2:04there, you know, there's a big get together and the kids had a
- 2:07phenomenal time, you know, so that was their last memory of coming home.
- 2:13And I don't know how many times you do that, you know,
- 2:15during the season here. So the trip accomplished its goals. We learned a
- 2:23lot, We learned a lot about each other, We learned a lot about
- 2:25our team, and I think the kids may have had an opportunity to grow
- 2:32up a little bit. You know, I don't know, appreciate different cultures.
- 2:38Me Every time I go over there, you know, I have a
- 2:40hard time coming back, So maybe I should stop going over there. What
- 2:46were your thoughts on just just for you personally going to Croatia to get to
- 2:51see Nika's hometown and her where she grew up. You know, I had
- 2:55been there during the recruiting process, but I had never spent any time there
- 2:59or I never sport the city. And it is a it is a you
- 3:05know, fantastic city, a lot of history, a lot of culture,
- 3:09great great people. Just the warmth and the reception, and you could tell
- 3:16the love that they have for for Nika, and her mom and dad are
- 3:23just the absolute most fantastic people ever. You know, you can if you
- 3:28met her dad, you would see where Nica gets it from, you know.
- 3:32And Nika's mom is just very quiet, very reserved. So obviously Nica
- 3:39has none of her qualities. And I think the players when you see how
- 3:50Nika grew up and what she what, what her experience was, how to
- 3:58get to school every day and morning, how to get home every every night,
- 4:02not like every afternoon, I mean like every night, nine thirty ten
- 4:05o'clock at night. You know, for them to see that gives them a
- 4:12better sense of the sacrifices that those kids make for school and to play,
- 4:21you know, to play basketball. You didn't zipline, did you? I
- 4:27did not. When I heard that there was like stops, I thought,
- 4:30you know, what I'm used to do is, you know, you get
- 4:32on the thing he goes, and then you get off. This was like
- 4:36you go for a long time, then you get off, then you trek.
- 4:42You get on the same thing but further down, and you go and
- 4:46then you get off, and then you trek. And then I just thought,
- 4:49you know, there's a lot of nice cafes and all these other places.
- 4:56I don't. I don't think I want to do that. Right,
- 4:59you go to the Ferrari Museum with a Ferrari factory though I saw red Ferrari.
- 5:03Did they actually let you drive it? I know they let you get
- 5:05in it, but they did actually let you drive a little bit. Ye.
- 5:10Yeah, they don't let you. You pay to do it. You
- 5:13know, the Tians might give you an espresso for free, but they don't
- 5:16give you anything else. So yeah, I've always wanted to go there.
- 5:23It's unbelievably amazing the situation that they have there. You know, they've got
- 5:28to you know, they've got the Ferrari Museum, They've got you know,
- 5:32the Ferrari where they're building the cars, and they've got the Ferrari separate building
- 5:39just for their Formula One program, you know. You know, you go
- 5:44through their museum and you see all the past drivers that have driven for and
- 5:47those are Hall of Fame names. You know. I didn't know, ever,
- 5:55know that Mario Andretti drove for Ferrari. I mean, it makes sense
- 5:58he's Italian, but didn't realize that that that he was one of their drivers,
- 6:01because you know, majority of their drivers obviously are European, and so
- 6:08you know, there's they have a couple of cars there and you telling which
- 6:14one and Dave Benedict and I did it, and they had two. So
- 6:19the first part of our tour, I drove one. Then we stopped and
- 6:24we switched cars, and there was a person next to you, obviously from
- 6:30Ferrari, and yeah, they go fast, and the guy I was driving
- 6:40with encouraged me. Now we weren't on the track. I wish next time
- 6:44I go, I would like to take one of those cars on their track,
- 6:46on their test track. This time, we were going through some backcountry
- 6:51roads, you know, and and there were actually other cars on the road,
- 6:57and the guy I was with, he was very adamant. You know
- 7:02when I would go you think there's enough room between it, and he would
- 7:06look at me incredulous, like and he would say take it. And you're
- 7:13like scared because and you trust them. And then you get over there and
- 7:18you think you're going really fast and he's telling you do you do you want
- 7:23do you want to feel the car? Or do you just want to drive
- 7:25like this? And I'm already going one hundred miles an hour. It's like,
- 7:28yo, dude, it sounds like you coaching your basketball players, right.
- 7:34Believe me, it was amazing. I want to go back, and
- 7:39I want to go back and do it again. I say, you know
- 7:42when I get back home, So I'm going to look into buying one of
- 7:45these. The biggest problem is they're their cheapest model of something is like two
- 7:53hundred and twenty five thousand, and the one I drove, I think was
- 7:58maybe two million. I'm like, on, there you go, I said,
- 8:05And you live here in the United States, you know here, Like,
- 8:07even if you have one of those, where the hell are you going
- 8:09to drive it? That's right, I mean, larm rocks on the other
- 8:13side of the state. You could do that. But yeah, all right,
- 8:16you pay two million dollars for a car that once a month you can
- 8:20take it up there for the weekend, exactly exactly. I'd rather go up
- 8:24there and rent one of theirs. There you go. It was always is
- 8:26listening. Yeah, I want to come up there and and race one of
- 8:31the cars. All right, Well, Ben, my boss has in there,
- 8:33so maybe we'll hook you up. All right. I like that,
- 8:37you know. It's always a pleasure. We'll talk to you tomorrow night before
- 8:39the game. Thanks man, all right, that's you, don't Re'm a
