- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's up to everybody, welcome in, the suitors on a side post-game podcast after Oklahoma, Knox Off and Knox Down, Michigan, 24-13 is the final here in Norman America.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're here to break it all down.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Ryan Chapman, per year, you've got the man, the middle legend, Jonathan, Hoover in the house.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_02]: John, welcome back to Mr. Last Week.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thrilled to be back in the stadium for a game of just any game we're Michigan, okay?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: these teams don't play with that regular player.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know I made this so good of so entertaining.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: It was very, very good.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: We got our main Carson Field who extends history.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma has not lost a game in this stadium when Carson is here.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: You're welcome to this man since a big time of fire by us, yeah?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just must be the good luck charm.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: My my record though away from this stadium not so good on to with the bowl game the LSU game We'll see if that changes next week against tempo, but you're right big games whenever I'm up to stadium We might leave you home next week if that's good for business Just first off.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: Let me set the table for you guys.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: We are up here in the press box in the TV booth
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: It is right now 230 local so when we get weird and off the edge and all that stuff keep in mind we've watched the game once live and if you were following along, open the series on side.com, you saw the live blog, you saw all the cars and satellites, you saw that we were busy, busy, busy but let's just start here.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this a little bit on our midweek podcast come into this thing with all the recruits in the house
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: with all of the conversation all off-season about Brent Metables on the hot seat, the first OU Cope since John Blake to truly introduce on the hot seat.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: John, Brent Metables had a couple of massive wins during his time at Oklahoma.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's had obviously the Texas win in 2023, which was almost a redemption arc, that kind of stuff.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: uh, the Auburn win bouncing back from Tennessee, year ago even though that season went uh, really really sideways, and then the Alabama win here on Seer night a year ago, but as you look at Brent Bendables, who's three years in two games in it, is this the biggest win tonight of the, of the, of the Vendibles era in Norman?
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Alabama was big last year because it literally got them to a bowl game, they didn't win the bowl game, it was not a great bowl game, but they get to extend the streak.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Texas game always the biggest...
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: uh... on this school schedule on this team schedule so i would probably say right now uh... we talked about this being a must win game it wasn't a must win game unless you have the fanciful idea that you're some top five team that can play for national championship that's who all come to things they are that this was a must win game and as of now this is down the biggest game but i would just in the big picture rank it below the taxis game and probably below the alivan games well
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you weren't here at the time Carson, but I think it's easy to forget with how that season finished.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not that it finished, like poorly putty, but they did make it to Arlington.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: That, you came out of that, Dylan Gabriel is a highest in front runner, Oklahoma had vaulted into the top five, basically.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think at the time I don't remember the exact ranking, all that stuff.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: This is when I think you look at the schedule ahead, it's gonna a lot more can happen.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: They got to beat Auburn to even get to the buy, we got to beat it all that stuff.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Whether this is one or two Carson, this was a really freaking big win and as we're gonna talk about the way it happened to I think is gonna make preventables extra happen.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's monumental especially look at Michigan That's such a talented team that defense is fantastic and John material looked I mean he proved all of the doubts about okay any play against top level competition top level defense
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: He was phenomenal.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: This team, just from Briff, denobles the sake.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's just gigantic for the program's sake.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: Trying to get back to what it was when Baker made a field category when they were leading the charge.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: They looked like a legit top tennis team tonight and a huge win for the program.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: 24-13 like we said, Oklahoma wins the total yardage 408 to 288.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: This game was not as close as the scoreboard indicated.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Basically for Michigan, they got the 75 yard house call by Justice Haines out of half time.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: First play the second half.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise guys, any time you talk about Michigan moving the ball on any of the other drives.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: the one in the first half that Michigan moved the ball there in the second quarter was due to a roughing the kicker it was a holding call defensive holding call that is never called on Dominic Williams it was a first down that was called near midfield that
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure it was the right spot.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't get a good second look at it, but I know certainly the fans in the house.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: We're booing.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan misses that field goal.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: You'll look at anything else outside of the house called on your talk about John some special teams miscuse when it comes to the United States, the Tania month punt when it comes to Jay not setting the offense way back by by screwing up feeling the kickoff and that was the one time that Michigan actually had
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: some really nice field position other than the muff pun that they can take a shot down field other than that job and we're going to start with the defense because I'm a little tired it's our fault of the defense always getting shoved at the sides with the outfits and soft fire stuff like that.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: The defense showed out tonight and for a lot of people last shot I remember vividly because it only happened a couple weeks ago, Dane Brugler.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: of the athletic rolls out his projected top 50 and the armace and Thomas blurb.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing he says was, oh, and it consists of deepens last year.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Dane, I appreciate that you are an NFL guy.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma's defense was good last year, but because the team sucked, maybe not everyone took note of it, Oklahoma's defense hopefully is going to get their flyers come out of this thing, John, because Oklahoma's now 2-0 and they put on a great show.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: it was kind of a perfect storm for rentables and that he can put on tape um... a really dominant defense you know he can show the fans or the doubters of the media or the haters who ever pay we've got a legitimate defense again but he can take the other side of the tape and go into the film room with his defense and say seventy five yard touchdown not good enough you know what i mean like a like he's got just enough to just an
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: You guys aren't as good as you think you are.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'll send you looking at just the Saints numbers.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Holy cow, 19 carries, 125 yards.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: What a great game, hold on.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: 18 carries 50 yards, right?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Is that what that is?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 50 yards.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: 18 carries 50 yards, and they too good.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, they did a great job on him, they did a great job bottling up and collapsing the pocket on and making an uncomfortable price, I wonder, for the day, 9 out of 24 passing, 142 yards, only sacked in once, but pressured him a lot and confused him.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that confused him, not to where he's thrown the ball to the wrong people, but just to where he would break out of the pocket and think
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: where are my receivers?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: They did a great job of covering.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: And when he would fire to receivers, he would misfire because he was like on the run or he was on the pressure, they were in his face a lot.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: So from a venable standpoint, you start with a defense, holy cow.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: everything with perfect except the 75 year run and these defensive penalties that kept alive a drive and they should have had a feel go and you know he can just go on and on and I don't broke out I'm pretty well guys he can go on and on about the stats the stats we're looking at in the plays that we saw today that that's what brunt's gonna go on and on about cars and I think the fans and us are gonna go on and on about
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: the defensive line and what they were able to do clear and clear in way for oh and a high and a key who leads the team in tackle to keep Lewis who's right there second the team in tackle.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah no it was just I can't.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't tell you how many times I saw Jayden Jackson, David Stone, these big guys up front just getting through with ease against a really good Michigan offensive line, a really big Michigan offensive line.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: I just thought it was so impressive.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: I really do think we're starting to see some of Benables' defensive mastery, that obviously with him calling defensive plays now, kind of being kind of flexing that muscle a little bit more using the talent, using the size that they have.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in every aspect of the Stevens, there wasn't one lacking unit I didn't think today.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, guys like Kindle Daniels, he was really impressed tonight, two and a half tackles for loss, three solo tackles.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's been great in both of his games in Crimson and Green.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's been awesome, open, high-naked, he was fantastic.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Really just topped a bottom, I felt the Stevens was fantastic.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: Brickman was choked about kiddo Daniels on the first drive of the game.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: That was the one time that Michigan got one or two.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: They got two positive plays and things were shut down immediately.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: That they roll out there.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: They have a boot and it was like kiddo Daniels was so excited.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: He forgot, oh, I'm supposed to sit over here.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: I chased it down, stuff like that.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: But you got to tell the guy that he started that way.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, with a little bit of a crap on the wrong place.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: There goes the guy out the house, out the house.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Out the door to that house.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think though that Kindle Dan was made up for that later on in the first quarter because he basically snuffed out a little swing pass and not only did he snip that out he delivered a hit that got the fans going which the fans were awesome all day long all day long both on the same guy on Haines
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's right past hands hands.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's not enjoyed.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's two trips to Norman.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: I have to say it gets in a fight with price underwear on the sideline gets a 75 yarder has two else Not bad though, and I thought that kiddo dams we didn't even get to really see Kindle Daniels and Marlin Clyde go at it because Thought the document was in a good spot and coverage and when that price started with did pull up to to throw the ball They were all over the place
- 10:16[SPEAKER_02]: It just has to guess do you guys happen to by the way if you're looking for the PFF snap counts and grades that stuff is already on the website Oklahoma soon as on a side.com two weeks now we're the first one out there so if you ever need that stuff just it's there as soon as it's up I put it up for you guys do you happen to know just by flow the game the two guys who played all 59 snaps on defense two guys played all 59 snaps
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: Portland Gallery, the Truth Brashman.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: Kiplus?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: Peyton Bowen is the other one.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: Those two guys, and there was no reason to pull them off the feel because, at guys, I thought Corly Gillery was fantastic.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: And it may not have always been that he was making a play on the ball.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: He may not have always gotten officially credited with the Passplake breakout, but he was physical.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: He was all over the place.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: There are a couple of times I turned to who, up in the press box and like, there's Corly, there's that man again, that true fresh ride that Peyton Bowen did a really good job.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: And outside of I think both safeties kind of took some bad angles on that 75-year touch time around there's gonna be a lot of blame to go around I thought the the back end the secondary shirt tackling I there weren't many times that I was sitting there going Miss tack on the back end things like that.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: It was a really really strong showing now Dintriwebs did not finish the game if on Jordan came in but Michigan wasn't able to throw it in because he wasn't like immediately this this big weakness So we got no update on entry after the game.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's the new thing this year
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: That shows not to throw it at Devon Jordan.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Good news, bad news.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: Ginger Williams got hurt again.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's the bad news.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: The good news is it's not a shoulder.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: So take what you can get.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to go to a reckless speculation corner, I watched a lot of ginger Williams on a sideline.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: He came out of the medical tent that it didn't really give him the transfer had him go up and down the sideline.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: He pointed down to his left groin.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know if it was a groin injury.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: Who've asked Matt to hit that gentrol on you know, we don't know what it is But it certainly not looking at the shoulders like you said Also know interviews What I like about court of Hillary is the handful of times that he was in on a play or near a play
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was Bryce Underwood referring back to what I've seen earlier.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's throwing the ball even though the guy's covered Like that guy is all over my dude, but that's where I have to go with the ball because everybody else is covered He didn't have a choice.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: He was throwing it then gillery was like in the guy's face or or had a hand over Or was making contact with him at the arrival of the ball almost every time.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see him get beat
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: in-pass coverage once.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: No, he was fantastic and what I loved about how well he played as he was always so explosive after the play always celebrating always a little fist bump just so animated out there which is what you want to see from your younger guys on the team not taking it too far not taunting but just bringing that spark that I mean oh you statements was good last year maybe not as much spark as we've seen in two games so far.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really, really strong defense effort.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: I thought what really stood out to me, that third quarter, when you got into the couple of special teams to fused snafu, whatever, like we said.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: Almost three in the morning and things kind of got hinky a little bit back and forth the game tighten back up Which couldn't say able to put it technically a one-score game stuff like that Before Brett Benables got here.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: It was I mean how many times of Oklahoma fans got into a game thinking like things are gonna be fine for the defense until there's the one bad break Whether it's a turnover or stuff like that
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's like mentally the entire group crumbles that did not happen.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that today, and I thought that last year was kind of the turning point as far as that mentality things like that.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought today was like the crowning achievement, yep, they were able to just continue roll back out there.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: They held the field goals that the end of the day.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Bryce Sunderwood, 9 for 24, 142 yards, Britt Vidbles moves to 22 and 5 in his defensive coordinator career against either a true freshman,
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: a red shirt freshman quarter back and that it was everything I think that this is a repeatable blueprint from this defense too.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: The offense that we're going to talk about, I think that offense in line is going to slowly get better throughout the year when we type out of the different pieces.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: The defense is now good enough to buy Oklahoma time, right?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to cost them football games, wins and losses while the offense works through some of their growing pains.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: Great call to self-inflicted issues, which we've talked about on the special teams, you know, here in Miss Tackle, there are Miss Fits, stuff like that doesn't affect the team.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't affect the defense, you'd like, like Ryan said, in the past, it would have a land to a little snowflake with land.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Something would happen, and here comes this avalanche, right, wipes out the whole village.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's not happening two games in, not happening with this team, with this particular defense.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: up front with the on the defensive line you can see those guys I mean you know the young guys David Stone and Jay Jackson and those guys young guys but they're playing with the maturity and then you're seeing the linebackers with the chaos that's going up and front going on in front of the on the front line.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: The linebackers are flying with reckless abandon, just all outspeed, run fit, make sure your run fit is correct, and then go 100 miles an hour.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: And the second there has no reason with that going on in front of them, has no reason to be anything but confident.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we're seeing out of all three of those levels of that defense.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: Stone was excellent tonight.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: He was the second highest graded player on the defense behind Owen Heinecki, which great Owen Heinecki story come to the website Sunday afternoon.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma suitors on s i.com.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: Kiple was also up there J and jacks and also up there.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: It was a really really good showing for the defense, which gave the offense.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: plenty of time to go through some ebbs and flows.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: Let's put it on the other side of the ball.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: The offense goes out there, marches straight down the field.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: We started to see go all the way back to Dylan Gabriel when he talked about that.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Third down is not impossible to convert.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well,
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: it wasn't always perfect tonight, which is what happens when you play a good physical front seven, but in the end, Oklahoma finished nine of 17 on third down conversions and it started from the jump, Oklahoma gets backed up into a third down immediately and who, but
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Jiren Kannick, the linebacker converted to Titan from his offensive days back in high school.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: He was an impact player tonight.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: Five catches for 69 yards.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: Nice.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: Jiren Kannick.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure it's a great appreciation for that.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: Comes into the post game with freaking Wolverine claws because when you beat the Michigan Wolverines, that's what you do.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: That was just the start.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: Damn.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Berks had a hell of a night.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: He couldn't be opening touchdown 100 one yards on
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: 21 up 34 through the air for one score 270 yards a couple of one intersection two sacks excuse me he also added a two yards and two scores on the ground on 19 carriers Carson just over all we're gonna dive into it from all the angles but we'll wish you're not a bit of a cool job of tiering the offense tonight.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just liked the balance that they had between running the ball, passing the ball, so obviously that trick point didn't work out, but I love the creativity on that.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: What would have been a great touchdown past during cannick?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, if there were any questions about what this OU often says capable of, I feel like most of those are squashed at this point, sure there are some running game, things that need to be figured out still.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: That comes with having a bunch of new pieces on the offensive line,
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: but I mean overall sooner fans shouldn't have a whole lot to complain about considering what they did against one of the better defences in power for people.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well that difference is going to be on their schedule for straight up, but I think you mentioned the offensive line changes for new starters today.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: You got
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: Mike of the Susie back from he was finally cleared from his kind of a medical episode.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: He goes inside and who was held out of that, the opener, he was back, Derek Simmons, who was held out of the opener.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: He was back.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: Not only those guys back, straight into the starting line at Fassusia, your freshman left tackle, and I think the best thing you can say about it was I didn't really notice him because he was good.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: I thought all night long.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: The first time I really like stared at Fassusia was that
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: first third down play during canic tj guy up in his face and as soon as he just not quite the Tyler guy can punch from thursday night football but he's stone tj guy and I was like alright freshman's got something there also is good jake micro takes over for Troy ever at center and so you go that's the one I didn't expect yeah well as you're you're taking a starting job away from the captain
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I had figured that Jake Michael was going to take over at some point in this game.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: I just didn't know if it was going to be from the jump there for my club.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: He just bigger, longer, stronger.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: It reminds me, I hate this for Troy Everett.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: But it reminds me of the Iowa State Game a couple of years ago where Caine Green is just a better option at left guard.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: We were sitting there going Everett, too small to play guard in this conference.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: I was over to Senator Everett, E.E.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a higher ceiling with Jake Michael and Johnny was it was a good fit for a big tent team like Michigan Yeah, as well.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably you have with Michael and some of those snaps below a lot of those snaps below He's got to get that cleaned up.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: You can't be having the ball firing back there where you don't know where it's gonna land
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: But they'll fix that.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get that worked out.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't worry too much about that.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: The Michael Fassucy thing here's what I like about that There you said you didn't like study M or zoom in on it.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: About maybe 12, 15 times I chose to randomly just let's see what he does on this But not watch material not watch where the ball goes just watch it left tackle He never had what in any of those times 15 16 times that I watched it
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: not one problem.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: Not one time did a guy get around him.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: Bull rush him, get in front of him, swim moving, none of that stuff was working on him.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: The very first time, what was his name?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: The DMT guy.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: He tried to bull rush him, and presumably took an extra step back and kind of absorbed it and then just held him up right there.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: Persuci something special you guys and what's interesting to me is a couple of times in the post game interview You can watch it on our website go to my YouTube channel John with a media Persuci is like I said did the you know that the atmosphere the week of preparation the the fact you're playing Michigan did Did any of that get to you did it you know was it exciting was it nerve-racking and he's like You know the fans and the lights and and he's like
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't notice any of that, I never even thought about it, you know, I said, well, okay, what about, you know, if I'm Michigan right and I've got an offensive tackle in front of me, who's a true freshman, I'm like trying to get in his head, I'm trying to like talk trash to him, hey boy, hey little kid, hey high school or I'm coming after you, something, and he goes, I don't think I heard any trash talk.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: He is so laser-focused on literally what he said, the man in front of
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: and you can see in the way it plugs, it's impressive.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: Chelsea, okay, winner's mentality.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: We know this.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: 3.4 yards per carry for Oklahoma on the ground.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like 4.2 in the fourth quarter where they needed it.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, as I was saying, it wasn't perfect.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: Wasn't super explosive.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's close to being a 19 yarder by John Mc'sier, 10 yarder by Giovanni T. Barnes, other than that, like not a ton of huge massive gains, but here are the couple things that I saw that I think really bold, well, for an offensive line that we never got to see them in court.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: Row really last year until late in the year because it was different and all that stuff.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: But as long as this group stays healthy, you actually have a starter group you can grow with.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: The first place you're touched down on the goal line, I was pretty worried that Oklahoma was going to get to the goal line and if they got too close and then they weren't going to be able to throw, I didn't know if they were going to be physical enough.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: They opened up a nice running lane from a tier on the right side, later on he showed he could bounce to the right side and then yeah exactly what you skipped to, not just the fact that Oklahoma was able to go on a 16 play basically.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: Get March at the, like it, it like, Michigan Pondable with 12 minutes left, basically.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't get the ball to the other side of the two minute warning.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the other thing too.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Versusy had something, I don't know if it was a tape job that came loose or something like that, but Logan Hallan had to go into the game for nine of those snaps on that 16-play drive.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: didn't slow anything down.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma still able to go down there bleed nearly nine minutes of clock.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, we're talking about again, you had to grade on a curve a little bit because of the defense that they played.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but if this is the worst this offensive line is going to be, I think Oklahoma, that's offensive line.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: Bill B goes as guys you can win with.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's an offensive line.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: You can win with it.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to be a Joe Moore group, but you can win with that group.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, I thought it was very solid overall, I mean not a perfect game on the ground by any stretch but I felt like it was better than what we saw a week ago against Illinois State and against a much better defense than the Red Birds I felt like Javansi Barnes played a better game play-walk look to heal a little bit of a spark even though his average wasn't great I still think he's gonna be a good back
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I just love it and makes the offense of Ryan's job a little bit easier that they are so versatile on the ground.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: A bunch of different backs, obviously materials, legs, they have the screen pass game.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: There are so many different ways they can pick up short yardage, get some of those methodical drives, and kind of those death march situations to mention.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but here he's not going to carry the ball in 19 year.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's like the the biggest thing that you could get is if materials not the only option on the ground because they got to a point where basically the massive third and three to start the fourth quarter.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was like circle that bad way.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever happens there is probably going to not maybe decide the football game.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: This would be a little bit dramatic, but I mean, look at what does the pick that third
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: And instead, Yamates here, full speed ahead, trucks through the knee and picked up the 19 yards a little bit later.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: If the offensive line can make those stats forward, there are going to be even bigger running lanes for a jade not to be more involved, for a Tory play like to be more involved.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: And then you can get back to Yamates here, what he tried to type out a lot of losses, which is let the guys who were built to take those hits, except when you have to put on your big boy pants on and they're down on the fourth down stuff like that, but this was a big boy football game.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, these athletes at Michigan are too fast for me.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: No, but here was slippery.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: He was at times running through guys.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: Did he take his first share of hits?
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sure, but how's he going to handle that?
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: He asked to mark him or he what his regiment was.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: Day after game to get better, but he was making guys miss.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: He was spinning out of rushers.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: If Jon material doesn't want to compare him to Baker Mayfield, he sure is making Baker Mayfield coded plays left right in the center.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: And not as efficient as Baker, but to spin out on the third down, go to a scramble drill and find some Tandy down pit.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's stuff that Baker Mayfield did that people didn't love it at Oklahoma for a long time.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: The place that he was making in the past game were impressive enough, right?
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you want your quarterback to do, especially by in time and getting out of the pocket, patting the ball, patting the ball, patting the ball, patting the ball, patting the ball,
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: and then throwing it on third dad and converting is like, oh, wow, that's pulling one out of your hat right there.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote in the story from Venables, a big picture view of the game for its posting at 6am.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: That material was, the Venables has a quarterback who is as tough as a winter on the Upper Peninsula.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: of Michigan.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: I've been there now.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I understand what the upper-pinit's low Michigan is and how tough it can be.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how tough John material is.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was taking some shots.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: You could tell when he walked into the press room.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: You got to walk in this door and then you walked down about five or six stairs and then you turn around and make a left turn to the podium and he was like,
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: doing this, you know, kind of, it looked like me trying to get out of bed.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh, I'm going to get to the mathic, you know, he was looking stiff, he was looking sore, he was looking beat up, he was looking very tired, and he should be, because he took some shots, and he said at some point in the press conference, some measure of, yeah, took some really good hits out there, and yeah, you could tell it was wearing on it, but he just kept coming back at him, you know, you don't want 19 carries every game.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: No quarterback to surround that, but like Brumman will say, we did what we had to do to win the game.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: What wouldn't perfect by any means, but at first up, never be perfect with something like this.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: You had the interception.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: If you watch, I know this was floating around, but Brooks Austin, who covers Georgia for the on-est side network, and also does a lot of film study.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: He did a really great breakdown of the Illinois State Game, which shows
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Jomits here when he usually misses, he misses high into the right.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: Because he's got kind of a baseball throw motion so we'll get you saw that pop up.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: He missed high into the right, basically on the interception.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: He also had a couple where didn't get the ball to Satania in stride one time that would have been a should have been a good catch and run.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: See you on the first.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_02]: Dianne Brooks would have been running for a touchdown, except it hit the Michigan helmet, but I, the canick, but I thought he also had the one-handed grab by canick on that first third down was a beautiful layered ball.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: You put a little bit more air under it, stuff like that.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: He was able to create, he missed canick wide open, but then great job by canick on that third down.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: That was to start the fourth quarter because can't work his way back into a pocket and was able to laser what in there.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: So while he may have missed him in the in zone, a ball that can't come up back, I love how he said he feels the open space.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: He knows how to get into that open Yeah, but here's how can it feels that open space.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's one of those things cars that we just can't get back to it.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: This might be the like most base level thing, but
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: What was so fun about watching Baker made to the play is that he had that school yard feel about them just am a football player.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: I can win in the structure of an offense.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: I can win outside the structure of an offense.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: There are two games.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: Chama Tier has that kind of quality of like sometimes it looks like he's just drawing up in the dirt.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes it's very, very calculated.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: but he plays one in football.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: He does, and he looks like he's having fun out there.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he might be a little stiff, making that transition to OU.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he'd be good.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know he'd be this good immediately for the sooner, just the difference in competition playing against.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: more or less amount in West Schedule last year versus now playing Michigan in the second game at OU.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big jump and it's one that material seems to be handling very well-very comfortable out there, having a lot of fun doing so.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what gives me confidence that this is going to continue to work.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just how much animation, how much confidence that both he and bid our buck will have.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's really impressive in doing it against Michigan's defense again.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's crazy.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not just material but
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: Derek Simmons.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: Go down the list.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: He answers.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: He answers.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: Who is some sort of racing miller from UCL from UCL?
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: Hunter is throwing out these guys like every time he get an old hynicky.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: Every time he gets a chance.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's reminding everybody.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody thought anything of these guys and they're making bodies or they'll call us under the misfits.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's used that.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: You talk about a guy like Tory Blaylock, a guy like my pussy, making the step up from high school to Michigan.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned Carson that transition for John Mc's here.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't know what it looked like this early.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: How about the transition from bit our buckle?
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that Ben Arbuckle was going to have a really, really tough, really, task ahead of him.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: Tonight, because I didn't think that Oklahoma was going to be able to run straight out Michigan into a certain extent, they weren't able to run straight out Michigan.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: So you're taking Wink Martin Dale, who was the experience NFL college, all this experience against Ben Arbuckle, who's in his fifth year of college ball plus one year of high school.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: Knowing you're probably not going to have a traditional run game, what was that going to look like?
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I thought that there were a couple different times late that Lake Martin dealt out of that pressure, and been all about what called the perfect screen to Javonte Barnes into the teeth of the pressure.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: The perfect, hey, let's get Satanian running.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like you mentioned with the trickplay, of course, I thought it came at the right time.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: It was blown up a little bit, but it still should have been a touchdown.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: It went to your just,
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: takes the hit I think it steps into that throw and drives the ball to Jiren Kanekin and I thought who that article it wasn't like masterpiece perfect but I thought it was pretty damn good for an offensive coordinator and if that's like again like much like material if that's scratching the surface much like this office like that scratches her is if this is scratching the surface of a bit our buckle over the homo offense
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: that's an exciting prospect for the little amount of time he'll be a normal because if he's calling games like this he'll be a head coach very very soon he'll be a head coach pretty soon I would think he's got whatever whatever it is that comes out of the Texas Panhandle and West Texas he's got that Lincoln Riley vibe he's got that Graham Harrow vibe that Mike Leach you know it's just kind of it's it's a mindset it's a it's a college vibe or whatever you want it's just a mentality that Mike Leach had
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: that he got when he worked with how mummy and you know Mike was a coach at BYU under Level Edwards I mean that's where he learned I say coach he was a you know water boy and stuff like that but that's where he got to start but it just comes down from this kind of Lucy Goosey hey man it's cool you know we'll come up with a solution don't panic we're gonna be calm we're gonna we're gonna execute here's our game plan let them try to keep up with us and the guys who can do it
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really good at it and I think he's the next one.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's the next of that group of coaches in that coaching tree.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think Ben R. Buckle's the next big one.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: Two games said, when this high was made, I thought, on one hand, I totally understood that where he's coming from from.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: Ben R. Buckle.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: how exciting it's been.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: Cam Ward, what John material did immediately all that stuff.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: I also thought it was absolutely insane that going into a maker break year, Brent Vittals was turning the keys over to a guy that's about to turn 30 here in a couple.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought that like that part of it was insane but when you look at what he's put together and of course we talked about this last week but
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: a 12-play touchdown drive, a 10-play touchdown drive, a 5-play quick-shrike touchdown drive, an 11-play drive that ended in a misfiel goal where Tate Sandell pushed it a little bit left, a 16-play drive that ran 8-27 out of the clock that ended the game and ended in a field goal,
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and you did it last week with an offensive line that you did your third straight left tackle all that stuff.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: I get it to the Illinois State and this is a Michigan team and it's a good Michigan team.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think Texas is better.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're going to see a better LSU team.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: We'll find out where everyone else with a cream-rises to talk to this schedule.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm just, as a pressure, you can be two games in, two what been our vocal side at Oklahoma so far.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: 100% and I think there were some questions last week as far as oh the running game didn't look good Is he pulling all the tricks out of the hat at this point like is this all that we're gonna see it's pretty vanilla
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: This answer all of those questions, or most of those questions I feel like as far as he is not vanilla at all, he can do pretty much everything, he can beat you with a couple of plays, he can beat you with 16 plays at the end of the game to win it to seal things and just very impressed with kind of this philosophy you guys were talking about with this new range of coach, these high flying offences are buckles bringing that which I know it's night and day from what this team had last year.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, well, they're going to say forgot what I was going to say, go ahead.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it's like, well, it's just one of those things that, and I know that things were as bad as it could got last year with offensive line injuries, tough like that, but the creativity and just running.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: And finding, here's the thing that we talked about time and time and chant again in post can of a post game last year.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Who?
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: No easy throws for the quarterback.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_02]: No sense of, hey, maybe your tight ends aren't super equipped to block, so why are you putting Bauer sharp one-on-one with steward from South Carolina?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's putting them up to fail.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't remember any of these situations tonight who've where Ben Arbaugh will put his guys in a position.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that it mean that they were perfect in every play, if you look at the success rate and all that stuff of every single play is it going to grade out perfectly?
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's week two, there's plenty of room to grow.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to peek in week two either, but I think we've talked about this in the last couple of weeks.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: When Lincoln was the play caller in 2015,
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: There were times when and it was early in the season.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: He figured it out against Texas.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: I believe There were times that Bob Stoops had to remind him hey you've got some Ajapy Ryan here You've got you know, was it Joe Nixon was that his Red shirt year that he set up 15 was his red shirt year?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe I'm thinking of well the the Houston games start off 2016 Is it when they totally abandon the run?
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's okay.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so you know I remember one of the Oklahoma state games
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Hypel did the same thing with the run game.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: It called something like 13 consecutive passes.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: And Bob goes in and halftime and says, you know, we've got to run a back.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: We've got some run-and-backs back there.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: You can call run-and-place.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: And came out second half and the offense worked better.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: And because the offense of coordinator gets kind of tunnel vision and thinks, hey, my quarterback is this.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: And my quarterback can do that.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, fine, what about your offensive line?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: What about your tight ends?
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: What about your run-and-backs?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: And how can you get the quarterback maybe involved?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not my individual Jones, but how can you get the quarterback involved in the Rugged game?
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think Ben Arbuckle has figured out.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I've got a running quarterback.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: We can do that.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: We've got some other things we can do with these guys.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go ahead and throw the ball short.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go ahead and punch some holes in a little bit deeper, some intermediate holes now in the passing game.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: And that opens everything up.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got his whole playbook available.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of just, you know, oh gosh, they're stacking the box, we have to, you know, we can't run into a stack box.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's got, he seems to have the ability to have some flexibility on both ends.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: If the box is light, let's go ahead and throw anyway.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because we, because we like this pathway.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: If the box is heavy, let's go ahead and run anyway.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: We like the blocking scheme that we got dialed up for this particular.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't seem, all that influenced by 100% of what the defense is doing like a lot of coaches.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: 10 of 18 on 3rd and 4th down for Oklahoma tonight is so pretty good one of one on 4th down and again that it that is not necessarily indicative of I thought in the last shot it was but it wasn't always Hey, it's 3rd and 2 all night long.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: I did they had to get out of some 3rd and longs and I thought that was really impressive I think too
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: Something I had asked Jon material was, hey, because of where Ben Arbuckle comes from, where he learned his offense, it's a through line from Clip King's Barrier, who is at Kitley, like, he's going to always have the tag as an air raid guy, whether you'll look at the split last year in Washington State round the ball more than they do with the ball, all that stuff.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_02]: But how impressive is it to have an air raid guy that can go out there and orchestrate at 16 playjo.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: It just took me back to the
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when Britt Vittables was not just his opening press conference at the EverCenter, where he's talking about the physical punishing, blah, blah, blah, blah, all the things.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: But also that that spring when he would talk about like he wants to be able to not just
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: Attack through the air and all that stuff, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty Invert middle to time.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_02]: When everyone knows you want to run the football can't use to run the football Never quite I think got there with Jeff Levy just because of uh, I think after it's blind something like that, but
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: you got one of those drives tonight where Michigan knows you went around the football and it just flat out didn't matter that was the drive and started with the the job material big run right that was the the longest run of the night like it that was the most obvious situation there and and I just came away incredibly impressed with everything our buckle didn't deny.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was, I mean, yeah, we've said this in many times, but yeah, it's very impressive by our buckle and just the different ways that you did it, it's here using his legs, screen passes, some nice runs by the roaming bags and deep shots.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, really everything was checked off that you couldn't want to check off tonight, even though they only scored 24 points.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: offensive line I think only I get stronger as long as they stay healthy and have a chance to mesh together you're talking about a true fresh friend he throws an eye to the way play all your last year still super young Jake Michael I'm making his first start at Center for Oklahoma the bet she had that was rock solid there this he's gonna present markedly better defenses than what we saw tonight
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: I do like good defenses consistently physically like this yeah, I don't necessarily think that like there's a deep That's the old you can see does like night and day better than what they saw the night Which which is obviously right here there might have some better players more draft picks all this stuff But just in terms of Way better than what we saw in Michigan tonight.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: No, they're not way better now And Michigan the defense wasn't the issue last year.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: It was the fact that I
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: they didn't have a quarterback and they had a guy tonight that Oklahoma completely shut down and shunned it and you look at it.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's encouraging because they have had Oklahoma historically speaking.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a lot of young quarterbacks, I'm thinking to Tennessee, I'm a, I am a little ago.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: He go, I am all the, he had a, he didn't have a huge game, but he had a nice big game made about four or five plays in that game that, you know, kind of cooked Oklahoma's defense.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: just historically speaking recently at least young quarterbacks, hot shot quarterbacks quarterbacks that were linebackers I was saying that turned around and had to play quarter like it hasn't quite mattered I mean there's some truth there too so that that was a good sign there and and you look to I truly think that whether it be quarterback or Jnaut at the only it's better they're gonna get better Giovanna Gibson who might have been the happiest person
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: not planned, he'll come back, that'll be another weapon for Oklahoma guy that by all accounts was their best receiver and the spring has even so in the field yet if you're going to get this D on Berks and this Satanian, this Jiren can't it borrow him in there, I think that's going to be good.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: The one warp tonight, the one major warp tonight was
- 41:04[SPEAKER_02]: the special teams happening as you look at the fact that Isaiah satania must support, which set up Michigan for their first made field goal, the jane on the ensuing kickoff after that flubs it that puts OU deep into their own territory because as to another thing about the offensive, even when they did not
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: score.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: Something that just didn't happen last year.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't a immediate three-and-out defense back on field.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: They'd pick up a first down or two, give Grace and Miller some extra room to not be under like major major duress to put it out there, run three minutes off the clock, stuff like that, and that was one of those instances where they were unable to do that because even picking up the one-first down, gave Michigan two of their best starting position to the day and let them take that with the one time they really got a nice deep shot down the field that
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: for a price out of it, which I think was because they weren't terrified that he's having to drop back on his own 10-yard line or stuff like that.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: You had one Miss Field Global by Tate Sando, pushed the left, but he made the other one.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Other than that, it kind of wiped away what was unfortunately, what should have been a great story of Grayson Miller, kind of the emergency ponder after Jigabore just not pawning tonight.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he,
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: boomed a 59-yarder, he averaged 47.8 yards per punt on four puns.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: That was really really good.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: If you just don't have the special team staff who's the ruff in the kicker like we talked about earlier, this game is not as close as it was on the phone.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, I mean they didn't.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: They wouldn't have gotten that three point attempt, which was missed.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: But more Jim, Germaine to what's going on immediately,
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'll call the guests the ball back at midfield or less because they're punting from down on their goal on it if you don't rough the punter weird just a weird night for the special teams
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: The fumble punt was just a brain fart by satan.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that I mean you're an experienced puncture and you can't run up halfway to a ball and then bend over and try to catch it literally like a foot off the ground.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's like the worst Had another touching go catch two yeah, he had the mop and then he had a very touching go I'm gonna be like dives in like it's and I couldn't figure out what was going on with the Pots kick off her turn.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's like it fell straight down out of the sky and hidden in the face mask or something
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: who catches a pot or a kick-up way up here?
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: Miss Judged it, I don't know.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: When was it blowing too bad, was it?
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, I already know.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: He was down on the field, so I don't know.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty cold.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: But all that being said that might be obviously besides materials performance, the defensive performance, that might be the most encouraging thing.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that they still be a Michigan team by multiple scores.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is a Michigan team that we might be talking about possible college football playoff team by the end.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're not back good.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: They might not be, but it's the big tenets.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have any weapons at receiver.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: They don't.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: The committee loves the big ten, though, for us to be quarterback.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: If Indiana can make the playoff, maybe Michigan's can't you?
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Point being, that's a good team.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma played far from a perfect game, and they still won pretty comfortably.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's positive.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: Plenty of room for improvement.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that this may be the biggest way of the season to be able to have things go or stuff like that.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: They play like they did for most of the night though.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to be the biggest one of the season.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the good news is this wasn't like the stars aligned and everything went right.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: Oakland had to overcome some hiccups and they still were able to calm the waters.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think that certainly would sign it and something else too is they did it without Eli Bowen and Kindle Dolby.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: Coming through and I didn't think much about Eli Bowen and Kindle Dolby tonight.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's quite like Hitler is really pretty good at football to games and it looks like stuff like that.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: Half a game without gentry.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: That didn't pop up, but it wasn't a huge issue.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is all really really good sized.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I know it seems like we've talked about this kind of off camera stuff like that.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: But just taking the pulse of the family.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that there was optimism, but
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of fans were saying I need you to show me before we're all the way in, that kind of thing.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma's headed out to Temple next weekend should be a fun trip to Philly Cars now, be out there.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not expecting Oklahoma to really struggle with our friends the hour, so they certainly look much better than last year's Temple team, but
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a fan base that's going to be full speed ahead, excitement headed in toward Auburn because I think that Oklahoma gave fans a lot of reason to be excited here tonight.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: What we saw?
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, they absolutely did.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's just kind of like the way this schedule sets itself up with Temple that should be comfortable and even if Temple is a lot better.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: Auburn looks pretty legit though.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: I will give them that Jackson arm would look really good against Baylor.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think that seems much improved.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: Then they get a bite and they get kicked state and then it's the gauntlet.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: But you've just got to like how this sets up for that gauntlet.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: Having two easier games, Auburn at home.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's just, I mean, oh, you fans just bluntly have to like Ruler out right now.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_00]: We see that temple took down Howard today.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: Howard, I don't know it was the last name Howard.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: I hope not.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: Kelly Gregg will tell you all about what happens when you replace the water with everything else with Howard Sheldon.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: 557 was that game tempered out too though on the season, they're going to have their hands full of foam.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's my big prediction.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to have their hands full of car sound out of the link.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: next weekend in Philly cannot wait for that trip.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Be sure your follow us long open with sooners on SI.com.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you go there, depend on when this pops up, all of our stuff that might take the ways right after the game, who's stock report, Ryan Avers, report card, yes, that's Ryan Avers.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: He is helping us out.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: really pleased it was a packed press box night that he should be here for all the rest of the home games big thank you Ryan Avers stoke to have him aboard helping us out through this football season if you know 19 years at the local home in absolute legend excellent
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: I told him that I was going to tell him once on Twitter, not the superior Ryan on the UB, just the other Ryan now for Mr. Aver, but to be honest, we already had the PFF grades up there.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_02]: You, John, are writing about Brent Vinnables, everything he had to say about what this does for the program.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, writing about John material, what he's doing on the ground.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote about that last driver, everything they had to say.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: We'll have
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: When the new poll comes out, I want to clock on Sunday.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: That'll be out there right about, oh, and Hainiki, his big day.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: That'll be out there on Sunday.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_02]: Cars love to store in all their roots in the house.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's just our Sunday slate at Okomocereus on S.I.com.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: Before we wrap up the shot before we roll on into Temple Week, anything else that we miss maybe tonight from this contest other than just again, another major shout out.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_02]: The fans made this a really, really fun week.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_02]: really fun day on campus that I spend a lot of time on campus on Saturdays with radio and all that stuff and they certainly delivered a really, really fun game tonight and and Oklahoma for the first time in a couple years, they're able to like truly match it with that big time excitement.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: One point that I want to mention, we mentioned how Satan kind of
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: Fumble that kick that was a bad play Satania was a hero on a different play.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was too much.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, there was this one play Berks goes for it It's not cash it should have been an easy pick and Satania just a level was a defensive bat.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: Great DB Yeah, that was a huge play that would have been a huge moment some ship there instead It's incomplete.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember if that was I think it was a scoring drive I think those you kept that off the top down
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: The next play was the, the, the, the, the, the tear escapes.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: It gets out and throws it down the sideline to titanium.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: It makes a great catch on the sideline.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they scored a three or four plays later.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: That was just one of the more.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: mind boggling in place.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't realize how big Satania was as far as breaking that up until I rolled back the footage.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: I got behind at that one, so check out the highlight, shameless plug.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: But that was just an amazing play and it could have been a 14 point swing in that game.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, and that's the kind of playmaking that we talked about, the defense, saving the offense, the offense, saving the special teams, and it's just going around.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean guys are making plays all over the field.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: That didn't happen last year, right?
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: it was pretty impressive.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot to be excited about for this season.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: A lot to be excited about for this football team coming out of this bad boy.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: A lot to be excited about as we continue on into a big, big, big week as we head out to Philly.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: glad you're able to make it in my guy it was uh one of those nights that we were packed shoulder to shoulder in the press box but uh like riding a bike for you I hope as we as we look over and just a lot of pairing up each other's screens a lot of anyway it's just going a lot of whooping like he just shut up so I can finish writing this sentence please don't I don't do great in crowds anymore but it was fun I had Cliff Brunt here on my right Ryan on my left that's not a crowd
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: Not bad, not bad.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: 3 is not a grand.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: Indeed, 24 13 Oklahoma matches another victory over Michigan 2-0 all-time against the Wolverines and all of their national championships before 1950.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Michigan didn't even try to break down 10 of their 12 Michigan is the Rutgers of this month.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_02]: So the Rutgers of Blue Buds Rutgers has all this crap on their stadium because they did it before people actually played college football, Michigan, two titles since 1950.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: One of them has shared the other one set a record for show causes and on coaches.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't even travel their band pathetic by the way.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you have one of the best fight songs in sports, you bear being that band ever way more Tennessee fans here a year ago The Michigan fans.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: I hope they enjoyed their like three years in the sun because They're headed back to just being the also random of blue buttons.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: I believe we're in this year on more experience.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_02]: No, sure on more sucks
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's what he was he stumbled in Bumble if it wasn't like Ryan Day being like a mental patient when he goes into play Michigan They would have had a so-so year a year ago There would have been no moment on day.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: What did I got to play?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be able to book in they finally got their quarter back National champion.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, okay again.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: You're after winning the national championship They beat the national champ and This was something right
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: Southern Illinois beat Notre Dame, where we hold Southern Illinois, they made it to the National Champion game, it's Southern Illinois this great pillar of everything, strong war.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he's going to be at Michigan in three years, just he'll get right out of town, it's probably right.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_02]: Other than that though.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: Fun game.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: Good to have a big breath.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: They're a ton of Michigan fans all in the city.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: I hope they all have the miserable trip back because they didn't bring their band And that's on them not the bands on the universe with also terrible game notes by the way figure it out before we go up there next year their media team weak sauce for a blue blood other than that though, you know, we're gonna gotta apply to for credentials for those guys next year
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: They're terrible, look around the country, it'll be a better game now.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: Illinois State.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: Illinois State.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'll probably spend a week up in Ann Arbor going into the game and then just kind of sneak in because we're not getting crunchy.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you cover that one in my garage back in broken.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying, I mean, just...
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: Deep do your job.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is the world.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: The team the team do your job.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: All that stuff.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise we are headed out here That's how you know it is.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_02]: Give him it's 320 at the morning.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: It is 321 in the morning.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you to our friends for an hour.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're just on the ground.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: You've been here for 14 hours.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I got here at I parked it 1145.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: day.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: Long day.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, be another long day next Saturday.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: I should be good.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: Next time we'll talk to you guys Wednesday.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, hit the pot.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: Be sure hit the site Monday night.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk to a bunch of players Tuesday.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: Then our buck will print variables.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's no kind of getting into the rhythm.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm confused in here.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_02]: So all that stuff should be good and as scheduled.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_02]: But for Carson or who, this has been the Oklahoma Series on SI podcast.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk to you in the podcast next Wednesday.
