- 0:26of the fruits of the spirit and we are on faithfulness.
- 0:29And so if you are new to this podcast, welcome
- 0:31to Fostering Faith. We're a podcast where we
- 0:33don't have it all figured out, but we are walking
- 0:35through this phase journey together as a community.
- 0:38And if you are back for more episodes, because
- 0:41you've tuned in before, welcome back home. And
- 0:43so today we're going to step into a world that
- 0:45we throw around often, but rarely slow down enough
- 0:49to feel, examine, or even understand. A word
- 0:52that seems simple on the surface, but it's actually,
- 0:56I think, a little bit deeper. One of the strongest
- 1:00most life -altering characteristics that God
- 1:02forms within his people and today we're gonna
- 1:05be talking about faithfulness and I was reading
- 1:07in Psalms actually just this morning and it was
- 1:12Just about his faithfulness and so font Psalm
- 1:1552 8 But for me, I am like an olive green olive
- 1:21tree in the house of God I trust in the faithfulness
- 1:24of God and forever ever I will praise you forever
- 1:28because you have done it and so just because
- 1:31of his faithfulness and so We're gonna be talking
- 1:34about faithfulness not fluffy Inspirational fluffiness,
- 1:38you know faithfulness not surface level try harder
- 1:42version not a Christian performance version I'm
- 1:45talking about the faithfulness the way that God
- 1:46defines it and the way that scripture roots it
- 1:49and the way that Jesus models it and the way
- 1:51that the Holy Spirit produces it inside of you
- 1:54when you are so weak and your strength is gone,
- 1:59your motivation is low, and your circumstances
- 2:01do not make sense. If you feel like you've been
- 2:05hanging on by a thread, this episode's for you.
- 2:08And so faithfulness is not perfection. Faithfulness
- 2:11is not strong all the time. Faithfulness is not
- 2:15ever doubting. Faithfulness is not having it
- 2:19all together. Faithfulness is not pretending
- 2:21that you're okay. Faithfulness in its purest
- 2:24biblical form is this. Not letting go of God
- 2:29when everything in life pressures you to let
- 2:31go. Faithfulness is holding on, sometimes by
- 2:36a whisper, sometimes by a wounded hand, sometimes
- 2:39through tears, to the truth that God is. God
- 2:43is who he says he is, even when seasons don't
- 2:46look like you expected. And I want you to hear
- 2:50me clearly. If life has been hard, if the year
- 2:53hasn't gone the way that you've hoped, if you're
- 2:55tired, confused, overwhelmed, or even disappointed,
- 2:59none of that disqualifies you from faithfulness.
- 3:02In fact, those are the places where real faithfulness
- 3:06is born. James 1 .12 says, blessed are those
- 3:09who preserve under trial. Perseverance is not
- 3:12glamorous, but it is holy. Faithfulness is not
- 3:16loud, but it's powerful. Faithfulness is not
- 3:20always exciting, but it is eternal. Faithfulness
- 3:25is what heaven rewards. And let's go back into
- 3:29scripture. Faithfulness is woven into the entire
- 3:32Bible, in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
- 3:34One of the most beautiful passages in the Old
- 3:36Testament is Lamentations 3 22 through 23, where
- 3:40Jeremiah says, they are new every morning great
- 3:50is your faithfulness this makes me like what
- 3:56what makes this verse so stunning is not the
- 3:59words but it's context jeremiah isn't writing
- 4:02this in a peaceful season he's writing it in
- 4:05devastation the city is destroyed the people
- 4:08are broken everything feels hopeless yet jeremiah
- 4:11doesn't say life is faithful he says god is faithful
- 4:17This is biblical faithfulness, the ability to
- 4:20anchor your soul in what God is, not in what
- 4:25life is doing. You see, the foundation of faithfulness
- 4:29is God's faithfulness. Your faithfulness is not
- 4:31something you manufacture. It is something that
- 4:34you mirror. In 2 Timothy 2 .13, Paul says, if
- 4:38you are faithless, he remains faithful, for he
- 4:44cannot deny himself. God's faithfulness is not
- 4:48a reaction. It's his nature. It's who he is.
- 4:52He is faithful when you're strong and faithful
- 4:55whenever you are weak, faithful whenever you
- 4:58are steady and faithful whenever you're emotional,
- 5:02faithful whenever you are running and faithful
- 5:05whenever you feel distant, faithful whenever
- 5:07your heart is on fire and faithful whenever you
- 5:11can barely hang on. Your faithfulness grows when
- 5:15you see You don't know, and I don't know who
- 5:19needs this right now, but the Holy Spirit is
- 5:23saying you're not failing, you're fighting. Faithfulness
- 5:26is not proven by perfect behavior. Faithfulness
- 5:30is proven by continued dependence. The very fact
- 5:34that you turn to God when you're hurting, that's
- 5:36faithfulness. The very fact that you pray when
- 5:39you don't feel like it, that's faithfulness.
- 5:42The very fact that you show up and worship when
- 5:44the week has been so heavy, that's faithfulness.
- 5:48The very fact that you keep trying, that's faithfulness.
- 5:52And heaven sees that. Heaven sees what others
- 5:56don't. Now, let's look at Jesus because his image
- 6:02is a perfect faithfulness. In Hebrews 12, 2,
- 6:04it says that Jesus endured the cross for the
- 6:07joy set before him. Faithfulness carried him
- 6:10through the suffering. through the betrayal,
- 6:12through the loneliness, through the pain. Jesus
- 6:15didn't endure because he felt good, because it
- 6:18felt good. He endured because he trusted the
- 6:21Father. And that is faithfulness that you can't
- 6:28even explain. Trusting God's character when you
- 6:30cannot trace his hand. Think about the Garden
- 6:34of Gethsemane. Jesus was literally sweating drops
- 6:37of blood. He was overwhelmed. He was sorrowful
- 6:42to the point of death. And he prays, not my will,
- 6:47but yours be done. The fact that he was sinless
- 6:53and was going to take on the burdens of sin and
- 6:57be disconnected from his father for a moment
- 7:00in time. Can you imagine how that felt for him?
- 7:03The overwhelming sense of taking on our sin.
- 7:08past, present, and future. Everyone ascends.
- 7:11Can you imagine that weight? And he says, not
- 7:15my will, but yours be done. But that's faithfulness.
- 7:20Faithfulness in obedience is in confusion. Faithfulness
- 7:24is surrender in sorrow. Faithfulness is trust
- 7:28in the uncertain. Faithfulness is to say yes
- 7:33when everything inside of you wants to run away.
- 7:38And this is where the Holy Spirit steps in because
- 7:41faithfulness is not a fruit of your personality.
- 7:43It is a fruit of the Spirit. In Inglatians 5
- 7:4522, faithfulness sits right in the middle of
- 7:49the fruit list, meaning the Holy Spirit grows
- 7:51it inside of you. It's not manufactured. You
- 7:56surrender to it. You yield to it. Faithfulness
- 7:59arises whenever you stay connected to the vine.
- 8:01And Jesus said in John 15 5, apart from me, you
- 8:05can do nothing. That means you can't be faithful
- 8:08in your own strength. Faithfulness grows whenever
- 8:11you remain close in prayer, in scripture, in
- 8:14worship, in that stillness, and being really
- 8:18honest with God. And let's look at faithfulness
- 8:21through the story of Abraham in Genesis 12. God
- 8:24calls him to leave everything he's ever known.
- 8:28No map, no timeline, no direction, no details.
- 8:32No, hey, let's plan this for six months down
- 8:35the road. Hey, turn on your GPS. Hey, we're going
- 8:39to be there by 315. No, he doesn't give him anything.
- 8:45God's only direction is go. And what's he do?
- 8:50Abraham just goes, just goes. How many times
- 8:52have you been called to go and you don't go?
- 8:56Or we turn into like Jonah. God says go and he
- 8:59says no. He's like, I'll be, I'll be darned.
- 9:01I am not going. Uh, no, I do not like those people.
- 9:04Um, and Nineveh, I'm not going. And he says,
- 9:07he calls you to go bless somebody and you're
- 9:09like, no, I'm not. They don't deserve it. And
- 9:13so we, how slow, and so we've done a podcast
- 9:15on that too. Uh, how slow is your go? And so
- 9:18it's about go and Abraham goes and that's faithfulness.
- 9:22But even Abraham, the father of faith had moments
- 9:26of doubt. Moments of confusion, moments where
- 9:29he tried to fix the promise in his own strength.
- 9:32Yet God still called him faithful. Why? Because
- 9:36biblical faithfulness is not flawless obedience.
- 9:39It is continued obedience. It is walking with
- 9:42God, even when you don't walk perfectly. And
- 9:46some of you have been thinking about God, thinking
- 9:48God is disappointed with you because you're not
- 9:51perfect. But scripture shows us that God honors
- 9:54the one who keeps coming back. And Proverbs 24
- 9:5716 says the righteous person falls seven times
- 10:00and rises again. Rising again is faithfulness.
- 10:06And I want you to think about Moses for a minute.
- 10:09In Exodus 33 15, Moses says, if your presence
- 10:13does not go with us, do not lead us up there.
- 10:17Faithfulness is not going everywhere. Faithfulness
- 10:20is going only where he goes. Faithfulness is
- 10:23not refusing. to move without Him. Faithfulness
- 10:26is choosing the direction based on the presence
- 10:29and not the pressure. And we can't talk about
- 10:32faithfulness without talking about seasons. Every
- 10:35believer walks through seasons of dryness, seasons
- 10:38of waiting, seasons of silence, and the Bible
- 10:41calls this the wilderness. And in Deuteronomy
- 10:448 -2, God says He leads us through the wilderness
- 10:46to test our hearts, not to punish us, but to
- 10:51form us, to refine us. to remove what's weak
- 10:55and strengthen what's eternal. Faithfulness is
- 10:59forged in barren places. And if you're in a season
- 11:03where you feel like nothing is moving, nothing
- 11:05is changing, nothing is shifting, this is not
- 11:09a waste of time. This is holy ground. Wilderness
- 11:13seasons don't destroy faithfulness. They reveal
- 11:16it. Some of you need to hear this right now The
- 11:19Holy Spirit is giving you credit for faithfulness
- 11:22that you don't even see in yourself You think
- 11:24you're feeling because you're tired, but heaven
- 11:27sees how you're staying how you've prayed how
- 11:30you've trusted you when your emotions didn't
- 11:33match How you've showed up in ways that no one
- 11:36else saw how you have clung to God when life
- 11:39tried to shake you loose That's faithfulness
- 11:43and Here's the truth faithfulness is not loud
- 11:47It's not glamorous and it's not Instagrammable.
- 11:52Faithfulness is quiet and consistent. Faithfulness
- 11:56is hidden endurance. Faithfulness is showing
- 11:59up. Faithfulness is staying when walking away
- 12:02would be easier. Faithfulness is believing God's
- 12:06promises more than your feelings. Faithfulness
- 12:10is looking at the mountain and saying, my God
- 12:13is still good. Faithfulness is Carrying the truth
- 12:17of Hebrews 13 55. I will never desert you nor
- 12:22will I forsake you And because God is faithful
- 12:25you can be faithful And I want to bring you to
- 12:30one more scripture because I like he said I'm
- 12:32in Psalms right now And so Psalms 37 3 says trust
- 12:35in the Lord and do good dwell in the land and
- 12:39cultivate faithfulness Faithfulness must be cultivated.
- 12:42It grows in the soil of repetition And so we
- 12:46talked about repetition. We talked about consistency
- 12:48a ton on this podcast and even just in like the
- 12:51fitness and health repetition and consistency
- 12:54pays off. It grows everyday obedience. It grows
- 12:58in choosing God again and again and again. Faithfulness
- 13:02is not proven in the big moments. Faithfulness
- 13:05is built in the small ones. I think I have a
- 13:09screen saver that says small choices lead to
- 13:14big impact. And so let's end here with hope.
- 13:19And so your faithfulness is not measured by how
- 13:21strong you feel. It's measured on how consistently
- 13:24you hold on to God, even in the weaknesses. The
- 13:28Holy Spirit is the one who strengthens you, the
- 13:30one who studies you, the one who empowers you,
- 13:33the one who cultivates faithfulness inside of
- 13:36you until it becomes a rhythm. And so how can
- 13:40we put this into action. How can we put action
- 13:45into this faithfulness? And so whenever you're
- 13:50looking at how to become more faithful, how do
- 13:53we put this into practice? And so stay close.
- 13:57One daily, yes. Faithfulness grows with proximity,
- 14:01not perfection, not performance, just proximity.
- 14:06And so pick one thing today to stay close to
- 14:09God. Read one chapter of Psalms. I have my kids
- 14:13doing this in class. And so we read one chapter
- 14:16in the morning and one chapter at night. Pray
- 14:20for five honest minutes. Worship in the car.
- 14:25Journal one scripture. Sit quietly and say, Holy
- 14:29Spirit, I'm here. One yes grows roots. One yes
- 14:35keeps you in the vine. One, yes cultivates faithfulness.
- 14:41Two, stay honest. Faithfulness is not depending
- 14:46to be strong. It's bringing the weakness to God.
- 14:51And let's say what's real. God, I'm tired. God,
- 14:55I'm confused. God, I don't understand. God, help
- 14:57me stay faithful. Honesty invites the Holy Spirit
- 15:00into places that you're trying to manage alone.
- 15:0462 .8 pour out your soul before him. Pour out
- 15:07your heart. Your honesty is your faithfulness.
- 15:133. Stay in the fight. Do the next right thing.
- 15:18Faithfulness is not about tomorrow. Faithfulness
- 15:20is not about five years from now. Faithfulness
- 15:22is about the next right step. Ask yourself, what
- 15:27does obedience look like right now? Then do that.
- 15:32Not everything. Not a whole plan. Just the next
- 15:36step. Send the apology. Open the Bible. Forgive
- 15:42again. Show up again. Pray again. Try again.
- 15:48Galatians 6 -9 says, Do not grow weary, for in
- 15:51due time we will reap if we do not give up. The
- 15:56next step. The next seed. And God will grow the
- 15:59harvest. And if you want to be bold, speak this
- 16:04out loud today. This declaration is powerful
- 16:07for you. Say, God, you are faithful. And because
- 16:14you hold me, I can stay faithful. I will not
- 16:17quit. I will not retreat. I will not go. You
- 16:23are steady and I am safe with you. Speak it until
- 16:28your heart believes it. Speak it until you believe
- 16:34what you say. And so we hope this message encouraged
- 16:37you. We would love to pray for you this week.
- 16:40And so dear Heavenly Father, thank you for today.
- 16:42Thank you for yesterday. Thank you for the Holy
- 16:44Spirit strengthening every listener with the
- 16:47kind of faithfulness that does not break under
- 16:49pressure. Remind them of God's unwavering faithfulness.
- 16:53Thank you that we can trust you and obey and
- 16:55surrender and stay close to you. Thank you that
- 16:58you are never leaving us. Thank you that you're
- 17:00not forsaking us. Thank you that we get to grow
- 17:02in your faithfulness, that outlast emotion, outlast
- 17:05the storms, outlast the seasons. Thank you that
- 17:07we are anchored in you so deeply. Thank you that
- 17:10we have steady feet and that we are not walking
- 17:12away. Thank you that we are quieting our fears.
- 17:15Thank you that we are showing up like you showed
- 17:18up for us. Thank you for all that you do. In
- 17:21Jesus name I pray. Amen. Well, we hope that this
- 17:24message encouraged you. If you have a friend,
- 17:27send it to them. If you know someone is walking
- 17:30through a season, send it to them. Leave us a
- 17:32comment. Leave us a review. Help our little podcast
- 17:35grow. We love you guys and we hope that you are
- 17:40faithful even in your weaknesses because it's
- 17:42more beautiful to stay connected to God than
- 17:44anything else. Have a great week. Bye.
