- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:24Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:28world, over ten years strong, and Week three of the Philadelphia Eagles twenty
- 0:33twenty four season is now in the books. They beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 0:38on the road by a score of twenty five two eleven, which was absolutely
- 0:43dominated in the trenches. And we're gonna get into some analysis here, some
- 0:48themes and some grades, as we always do on our Eagles postgame shows.
- 0:52I'm Jeff Warren and I'm here with one of my good buddies filling in for
- 0:55the guys. This week. We've got the one and Only Matt Rogers,
- 1:00the honorable mentioned podcast man. How you doing, buddy? Thank you,
- 1:03one and only. Thank you. That's that's cool. That's how I always
- 1:06introduce you now, the one and only. It was great meeting you.
- 1:11It was great meeting you for the first time. By the way, my
- 1:12wife and I were down at the Indianapolis Colts preseason game. You were there
- 1:18as well, and it was just great meeting you face to face. We've
- 1:21been absolute yeah, yeah, we've been doing this for what two years,
- 1:26a couple of years now, right, Yeah, yeah, So it was
- 1:29nice. You've been doing it for a long time. You're the og Jesus,
- 1:34you're the you're like the third person that has said that this year.
- 1:38Anyway, thank you, But really getting this game it's a compliment. Yeah,
- 1:42Well I appreciate it. I really do. I really do. But
- 1:45man, I got to compliment the Eagles in the trenches tonight. I mean,
- 1:49holy freaking cow, Matt. When we take away a look at the
- 1:53themes here of this game, just you know, coming into this game,
- 1:57the Buccaneers, they were giving up big yards to opposing team's number one wide
- 2:00receiver last week. DJ Moorey had one hundred and four yards last week against
- 2:07against the Buccaneers defense. Justin Jefferson week one had one hundred and fifty yards
- 2:13that first game again of the season. And now tonight AJ Brown with one
- 2:16hundred and thirty one yards averaging fourteen point six yards per reception and just you
- 2:23know, really getting it done. And my gosh, again just the dominance
- 2:27offensively and defensively in the trenches. I think when we take a look at
- 2:30this game, that's what we've really come away saying, like, my gosh,
- 2:34they're just dominant in the trenches. That's what the drafts are. Four
- 2:38And as as enraging as the Eagles drafts are, quote boring as people will
- 2:43say they are with taking offensive lineman defensive linemen, you saw the fruits of
- 2:49those drafts really coming to fruition tonight in the game. Absolutely. I mean,
- 2:53it's just the it's the formula the Bird's been working on for the last
- 2:58few years, and it's just it's bearing fruit once again. Ye ugly three
- 3:01and oh yeah, ugly three and not like I all right, well let's
- 3:06get into jail and Hurts here first or second people want to hear, Yeah,
- 3:10exactly exactly, because like I'm on the Twitter timeline. Yes, I'm
- 3:15still on the Twitter timeline, and I'm thinking to myself as I'm reading some
- 3:20of the tweets, I'm not calling it x Nope, nope, nope,
- 3:23not gonna do it. I'm gonna do it. But you know, you
- 3:30see the criticism of Jaalen Hurts and like, Okay, yes, they're getting
- 3:34down into the red zone. They don't necessarily convert and they're they're struggling.
- 3:38Okay, they're stalling early on in the game, and I guess when I'm
- 3:44looking at what Jalen Hurts has done over the past three weeks. Here,
- 3:46Matt, he's a quarterback that continues to make elite plays like he did last
- 3:51year. He is, folks, he is an elite talent at quarterback and
- 3:55he's making plays when he has to. However, the turnovers are a bit
- 4:00of a new development for him this year. He was aggressive but calculated based
- 4:05on where the offense was on the field last season. This season a little
- 4:10bit more reckless throughout the first three weeks of the season with four turnovers thus
- 4:14far in this game. Again, Matt still elite. Jalen Hurts is elite,
- 4:19and I'm going to continue to say that word elite because I think some
- 4:23people are really forgetting this because he's not one hundred percent perfect this year and
- 4:28it's something that, look, folks, it's something that he may not be
- 4:31able to attain perfection this year. But again, he is elite. I
- 4:35think he may be taking a bit too many chances this season again, maybe
- 4:39overthinking some things a bit more reckless. As I mentioned your thoughts on Jaalen
- 4:44Hurts, do you think that that's what we're seeing as well well, the
- 4:49two picks tonight, because that's the main things that you know that are sticking
- 4:54out in people's brains who are listening to this, taking the time listen to
- 4:58this. So obviously the first pick to DeAndre Swift, you know, basically
- 5:04Deandre's act when he thought he was gonna zig and that if you watch from
- 5:10behind, it just clearly Jaalen through it with anticipation, thinking that DeAndre is
- 5:15going to make the break. He made the break. He just made the
- 5:16break at the wrong side. He hits the linebacker safety instead of DeAndre Swift.
- 5:23That's a pick. The second one, I mean, I sometimes you
- 5:27just got to take your hat off to the guy. I mean, the
- 5:29guy made one hell of a play to pick that off. Keep his feet
- 5:32one. I mean all overall, I mean, still Jalen hurts is I
- 5:41would give so far Jalen hurts this season. Definitely still a B minus.
- 5:47But it's not it's not like he is putting you in a position where you
- 5:51don't have a chance to win. Now, maybe you know, and teams
- 5:56will pick each other up at times, and sometimes maybe it's just the team's
- 6:00time to not maybe ride Jalen hurts his back so much because last season we
- 6:04were really, you know, depending on him being able to really carry us.
- 6:10So he hasn't played great so far. He still is an elite player.
- 6:14But but the pick, the two picks tonight are not you know,
- 6:18I'm not I'm not sitting here thinking, oh, has Jalen lost the ability
- 6:21to read coverage? Has is Jalen not able to make the throws? I
- 6:27mean he's kind of just picking his spots a lot of these times. I
- 6:30mean you can watch AJ. He's clearly communicating with AJ, giving AJ look,
- 6:36hey, I'm coming to you, and they can't do anything about it.
- 6:40You had that third and eight where yeah, that's not a touchdown play
- 6:44and that's not going to boost his his quarterback rating. He'd probably boost his
- 6:48QBR. But that third and eight that doesn't score late in the game,
- 6:51third and nine, something like that, and and AJ Brown's off to the
- 6:55left, he hits him with a four curl and the guy just can't stop
- 6:59him. I mean, the of course, you would like to see Jalen
- 7:03throw you know, four touchdowns, no picks, six touchdowns, one pick,
- 7:09things like that, and make sure you know it looks good for the
- 7:13for the for the Sports Center captions and stuff like that, but overall,
- 7:17again, I mean, in the last twenty one regular season games, he's
- 7:23twenty in one, So you can't complete, you know, come on,
- 7:29guys, I mean can't complete? What are we what are we talking about?
- 7:32Including the Super Bowl? He's twenty in two, So let's let's throw
- 7:35the super Bowl in there. There you go, there you go. Ninety
- 7:40five percent of the games he's waiting. I'm sorry, guys, it's not
- 7:43enough. Exactly what the hell? It's not pure perfection, not pure perfection.
- 7:47And look, his pocket presence has been was fantastic in this game as
- 7:51well. Sacked one time. And this is a Bucks defense, supposed the
- 7:56Baker exactly exactly, this is a bus Bucks defense coming into this game.
- 8:00Matt blitzing thirty seven percent of the time, highest in the NFL. They
- 8:03were blitzing Hurts early in this game, especially on third down. And yes,
- 8:07the Bucks defense kept their team in the game within the first half,
- 8:11but it just got away from them again. Jalen Hurts really understanding his pocket
- 8:16management, understanding you know, what he needed to do in the pocket,
- 8:20went to get out of the pocket one sack. You know, I I
- 8:24overall it was a pretty good day for him. Me when we get to
- 8:26the grades, people are probably gonna be they only had one sack on Jalen.
- 8:30That's it. One sack for six yards, six yard loss, that's
- 8:33it. They had great they had They got great pressure on him till I've
- 8:37only gotten one sack. Oh my gosh. Yeah, and he was but
- 8:39his pocket presence was fantastic in my opinion. So another oh my gosh,
- 8:45since we're talking about pocket presence, I just gotta go here, people,
- 8:48Baker was bad tonight. I will say, you know, like, yeah,
- 8:52Jalen will need to play better because when he's playing the Mahomes in the
- 8:54Boroughs and Allen's, you know, they're gonna make you pay for some of
- 8:58these. Baker was taken, Saxy had no business taken. Yeah, I'll
- 9:01just leave it at that because I know you want to keep rolling. That's
- 9:05all right, That's okay. But another theme from this game here, Matt
- 9:09was you know we talked about, of course, that miscommunication between DeAndre Swift
- 9:16and Jalen Hurts. It resulted in a Devin White interception right before the half,
- 9:20and the offense it was frustrating because they could have kind of really put
- 9:24the game away right there at the half, and we thought that interception was
- 9:28really gonna hurt him, really gonna kill him. But then would the Eagles
- 9:31defense do two plays later Jalen Carter strips receiver and gives him back to the
- 9:35offense. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis tow behemoth. Then, who are going
- 9:43to wreak havoc in the NFC and in this NFL in general? My gosh,
- 9:48where where sometimes I was standing injury exactly exactly where you're double teams that
- 9:56stood absolutely no chance at all. They're moving two men, both of them.
- 10:01You watched them together moving two guys back. They were devouring as well
- 10:09as the rest of the defensive line as well. The defensive dominance was incredible.
- 10:13The Bucks had eighty seven yards in the first half because of what they
- 10:18did in the trenches on defense. It was something where we're seeing, we're
- 10:22seeing the next era the torch being passed from the Fletcher Coxes and Brandon Grahams
- 10:28to these younger players here. And we really settled two Yes, let's played
- 10:33well today. Very true. He dominated in moments. I mean it was
- 10:37incredible. I'm like, if that defensive line plays like they play they played
- 10:45tonight, the Eagles will be in the super Bowl. I'm not gonna say
- 10:48they're gonna win the Super Bowl, but if that defensive line comes to play
- 10:52like that, you cannot run an offense. You cannot sustain offense. Yeah,
- 10:58you can get your little eleven point. It's maybe even if you've got
- 11:01a great offense twenty four points. But over the course of sixty minutes,
- 11:05that is frustrating. It's going to cause you to do stupid stuff, turn
- 11:09it over at bad times. Howie way to go. This is I guess
- 11:13this is how you build a smart team in the twenty first century. Absolutely,
- 11:16a great, great point, Matt. I've been talking about my themes
- 11:20that I had throughout this game. Are there any themes that you particularly want
- 11:24to dive into here on the post game? Absolutely? DeAndre Swift outstanding pick
- 11:31up. You know, I don't want to get out over my skis,
- 11:35but he is I'm just gonna say it here. First, he's looking like
- 11:37a baby Lashawn McCoy. He is, he is, he is, He
- 11:41is making guys miss and he's like running with patients. Not absolutely breathtaking speed.
- 11:48But if you if you take the right angles and you accelerate at the
- 11:52right moments, you can go ahead and you know, run a sixty yard
- 11:56play. And he looks very capable of that gainwell, looks good as a
- 12:01you know, a complimentary back. I think that's what his ceiling is.
- 12:05Very good complimentary back. Bring him out, Swiss army knife, you know,
- 12:09run some screens and things like that. I want to see more Penny.
- 12:13So I love I love the mix of running backs, but I do
- 12:18want to see a little Penny. I mean, I do want to know
- 12:20why he's in the doghouse. It is why he hasn't had a touch.
- 12:24I don't know if I've seen a touch this season for Penny. I think
- 12:28I think we may have had one. I think we may have had one
- 12:31in the first game. I think perhaps maybe it was a second game,
- 12:33but I think we have one with him. But going back to DeAndre Swift,
- 12:37Matt, interesting how you were talking about his style of play, the
- 12:41patience that he has waiting for those blockers to get into their position so that
- 12:46he can just be explosive right through the line. It's fantastic. He was
- 12:50averaging seven point six yards per carry in the first half on five carrys,
- 12:56thirty eight yards in the first half, and then overall in this game one
- 13:01hundred and thirty yards on sixteen carries. He averaged eight point one yards per
- 13:05carry. What an incredibly dominant He's in the league leaders after getting nothing in
- 13:11Week one. Incredible. I don't even have to like fact check that.
- 13:15I know that if you're averaging, he's now over the last two games averaging
- 13:20over one hundred yards a game after doing nothing in Week one, Right,
- 13:24give him the opportunity to do anything. He's now averaging one hundred yards a
- 13:28game. He damned there in the Offensive Player of the Year. I mean
- 13:33through Week three discussion. Absolutely absolutely, I meant that. At one point
- 13:37in the third quarter, he was averaging nine point three yards per carry.
- 13:39I'm like, oh my gosh, he's almost averaging a first down on every
- 13:43carry. I was like, Jesus, if he does this for another week,
- 13:48they're gonna have They're gonna be obliged to start putting, you know,
- 13:52really silly, ridiculous you know, charts and stuff, because when you put
- 13:56the numbers in the performance on tape, you just put yourself in those conversations.
- 14:01Yeah, if DeAndre Slift has another one of these one twenty one,
- 14:05you know, one fifty, he's off the races to be towards a thousand
- 14:11yards by week four week absolutely absolutely great, great points for sure. And
- 14:16moving over to the defense, another theme real quick before we get to the
- 14:20grades, Matt, is that I think an underrated aspect of what the defense
- 14:26has been has, honestly Zach Cunningham, because I saw him a number of
- 14:31times just getting into plays where where he needed to make a play and he
- 14:37ended up coming coming, coming through big time for the defense. Zach Cunningham.
- 14:41As much as we have been worried about Kobe Dean's injury, what that
- 14:45means in terms of his development, but what it means to the middle of
- 14:48the field so far through three games, I think Zach Cunningham is one of
- 14:52is one of the most underrated storylines of this Eagles defense and the team in
- 14:56general. Yeah, he's playing well. He'll probably if he stays healthy and
- 15:03the Eagles don't make a move, he'll probably lead the team. And tackles
- 15:07Marrow played well today. I wouldn't be shocked if a team in Carolina took
- 15:15another loss in the next week if the Eagles weren't interested or wouldn't look at
- 15:22bringing in like a Jeremy chan I still I think that they're playing well.
- 15:26I just don't know over the course of seventeen weeks. If you know Cunningham
- 15:31Morrow, you know that that group is gonna be able to really get it
- 15:35done. When you're you know, when you go through a murderous row of
- 15:39sophisticated you know, run blocking schemes, that's still you know, the defensive
- 15:43line is dominant. But at the end of the day, you know,
- 15:48if it's Cunningham versus McCaffrey, and it's you know, late in the fourth
- 15:52and in an important game, that I you know, I don't have to
- 15:56potentially mention you still will you'd rather have McCaffrey, And that's I'm taking McCaffrey.
- 16:07I'm taking McCaffrey over a lot of guys. Yes, so I would.
- 16:10I would still look to make a I would like to make a move,
- 16:14have some kind of plan B, because you're obviously thin. If you're
- 16:18pushing Morrow and cunning him into major major they're playing great. No disrespect to
- 16:26those guys, they just haven't yet put on tape that they're that next level
- 16:30a linebacker. And that's partially how you know, I'm talking about how how
- 16:33he runs this franchise. He just is like, I'll mix a match.
- 16:37I don't give a damn who the linebacker is. Kaiser, Jordan Hicks,
- 16:41go get your money and I'll go keep going to the conference championships. Absolutely,
- 16:45go to Arizona. Jordan Hicks Arizona. They both would Arizona actually do.
- 16:52That's funny. Absolutely they did. But look, you know, another
- 16:56aspect of this defense before we get into the grades and the other themes that
- 17:00you have, Matt, is that the injuries that in Week two that were
- 17:04really prevalent as this team faced the Vikings, you know, read Blank and
- 17:08Ship and getting getting James Bradberry back, two guys in the secondary that are
- 17:15absolutely huge Read Blank and Ship with that interception with two minutes about two minutes
- 17:18and thirty minutes, two minutes and thirty seconds left in the first half.
- 17:23And then James Bradberry, Yeah, I started at outside cornerback in the Eagles
- 17:26Base five two defense, but then we saw him playing a lot of slot
- 17:30because they brought in Josh Job played the outside. Bucks were really testing Josh
- 17:34job on the opening drive in throughout the game as well, and he held
- 17:41up. He did not completely crap the bed. But having James Bradberry,
- 17:47especially in the slot since Avonte Maddox is out getting read blank and ship back
- 17:51two guys on this defense who they sorely missed in week two, and they
- 17:55showed up big time tonight in their return and it was great. I got
- 18:00to be honest with you, Jeff, I'm just gonna you know, I
- 18:02like you know. I love my birds, I love James Bradberry. Seems
- 18:06like a great guy. He's an outside corner. I do not like the
- 18:11idea, especially seeing what I saw tonight, what I saw in the super
- 18:14Bowl with him in the slot with Juju, I don't think he has that
- 18:18quick twitch. He's a long strider. He'll keep up with you, you
- 18:21get to back off. He doesn't have like that quick twitch that Vonte Maddox
- 18:26or these other you know, really good slot corners who was able, who
- 18:29were able to adjust and all that. Yeah, he's good and he's smart
- 18:32and he's able to press up on guys. But if people give him a
- 18:34good press move like you saw with Chris Godwin, just cooking him in the
- 18:40slot. Yeah, I don't love it. I mean, Travis Kelsey was
- 18:42cooking him in the Super Bowl yea before before the bad holding call. You
- 18:49know, I was looking forward to Bradberry. I was, you know,
- 18:52I saw a lot of graphics. Oh, Bradberry's great, you know,
- 18:55and he's shut down Kelsey a couple of years ago, and all this.
- 18:59I'm not loving the Bradberry and the slot I got I got. I don't
- 19:03know if you know. I'm not trying to dis him, but it hasn't
- 19:06been looking good, is all. I gotta say. The slot issue is
- 19:08going to be interesting to follow for sure over the course of this season,
- 19:12not having a Vonte Maddox there because of Vonte Maddocks, one of the best
- 19:15in the league playing the slot appearing some absolutely yeah, can't just replace that,
- 19:19absolutely? All right? Do you have any other themes map before we
- 19:22take a quick break and before we get into our grades. Well, I
- 19:27think that obviously you've got trap game. You know, the discussion you'll come
- 19:32into this trap games week against the two and one Commanders, and I think
- 19:37I think it's important for the Eagles to go into the prepare the preparation for
- 19:44this game, look into you know, hang a serious impressive beating. Of
- 19:48course, you know a W is impressive. It's the NFL. It's hard
- 19:52to win games. But it's important to hang an important number because now now
- 19:56you're getting ready to be compared against the Chiefs in the bill in the forty
- 20:00nine ers. You gotta go up against those guys. You need to put
- 20:03good stuff on tape, absolutely good, good theme talk about before we hit
- 20:07the brake, and we're gonna get to our grades in just a bit.
- 20:11We're gonna take that break right now. We'll be back in just a bit.
- 20:14All right, we are back and again with Matt Rogers from the honorable
- 20:18mentioned podcast. I listen on Apple Podcast and you should listen to Matt and
- 20:23his great guests that he brings on during the course of the football season.
- 20:29I'm sorry including you. Oh you're very sweet, Thank you very much.
- 20:33Yes, yes, yes, we always have a good time. Man,
- 20:37when we're on the microphones, we always have a great time. But all
- 20:41right, well let's get into some grades here. Oh wait, oh at
- 20:44politodope on the Twitter dot com, dude, I just I've been saying,
- 20:48is all right? Go ahead with X. I am so tired of X
- 20:56and the and the ridiculousness. We didn't Elon want to. Didn't he want
- 21:00to call PayPal X when he was there, Like I seriously think when he
- 21:04was like on their board or something, he wanted to call PayPal X.
- 21:07I have no idea what his obsession is with the letter X at this point.
- 21:11Boy, what a deviation. It's like I mean, it's it's like
- 21:17a. It's like a. It's like a great friend yours who went and
- 21:19started doing crack. It's like, man, you're a Shelly yourself man,
- 21:25Like I love it. I love this like you were my mad You're a
- 21:30damn crackhead. Now I love it. Oh my gosh, I completely derailed
- 21:41the postgame show there, all right, wonderful, wonderful. All right,
- 21:45let's get because he refused to call it X exactly exactly. Let's get into
- 21:49these grades. We're gonna grade by unit and then grade the coaching. We
- 21:53didn't talk about special teams, but we're gonna get they're very, very pleasantly
- 21:56surprised by a lot of what's happening on special teams here. All right,
- 22:00let's get a quarterback position. Jalen hurts, I'm at I am going to
- 22:03give him a B plus this week. I absolutely think, based on what
- 22:10I said earlier in the show, that he is still making elite plays.
- 22:14We saw that touchdown pass to Zacaius. What an incredible throw under dress and
- 22:22that's just one of the elite plays, just one of them that he made
- 22:25tonight and it happened to be for a touchdown. I'm giving Jalen Hurts a
- 22:27B plus. What do you give him this week? It's interesting because at
- 22:32the beginning of the show, I figured that you would give him. I
- 22:37don't necessarily disagree, but I don't know is eighty six If I'm doing like
- 22:44numbers, it's more like that eighty six range. Okay, that's a bee
- 22:48then, and I think that's a good bee. Yeah, it's a good
- 22:52be. Solidly Yeah, I think he's working through right now. I think
- 22:56the part of his of his development is he's learned learning to start trusting his
- 23:00guys when they're not open yet, like in terms of throwing jump balls,
- 23:06in terms of just like hey, stop caring so much. Like he's trying
- 23:10to learn a little bit pushing himself into being a gun slinger. You can
- 23:15see it. He's like shaking his head and very frustrated by that pick.
- 23:18Like he knows he like last year and in years past, he wouldn't have
- 23:22thrown that. Even the guy made an incredible play down at the line to
- 23:26pick to pick that ball off. But he's like, I wouldn't have even
- 23:30thrown that, And it's because I'm trying to get my guys. He's got
- 23:33guys competing for and that's the that's the thing. I don't know. I
- 23:37don't like that from AJ. I don't know not to try to go too
- 23:41far off the point here, but I don't like AJ doing that because we
- 23:45have such a so many tools in the shed, and the thing that makes
- 23:49all of them able to succeed from week to week is you don't know who's
- 23:52going for one hundred and thirty hundred like AJ did today, could be devote,
- 23:56could be AJ, It could be gained well, it could be God
- 24:00heard. And so if if a certain guy while the team is winning,
- 24:04starts complaining, then it Having played that position myself, you do you do
- 24:08want to like cater to it and you're not playing the game. So yeah,
- 24:12he's dealing with all those things. I kind of talked myself in more
- 24:17like, yeah, so like B B plus. I'm with you. Yeah,
- 24:19I think a lot of people would actually give him more of a C
- 24:22plus in this game. Just by looking at the box score twenty three or
- 24:26thirty seven, two hundred seventy seven yards, one touchdown, two interceptions with
- 24:30a rating of seventy one point six, I think a lot of people would
- 24:33be like, Okay, that's a C plus score. I actually think it's
- 24:36a B plus. So I'm glad we're right there around the same area there,
- 24:40Matt. So quarterback rating to tell you what quarterback rating tells you.
- 24:45Yeah, I looked at it before the game. Baker's quarterback rating in the
- 24:48game tonight was higher than than Jalen Hurts. Oh absolutely, yes, absolutely,
- 24:52I think he was the high. I think he was the second highest
- 24:55in the league. I think heading into this week three. During this game,
- 24:59oh during this game. Okay, Tonight's get you guys. You guys,
- 25:03if you listen to this show, you watch tonight's game, you've seen
- 25:06some highlights and Jalen's quarterback rating was like seventy one point one and Bakers is
- 25:11like seventy three. Yeah, And you tell me if you think that that
- 25:15means something. Okay, all right, very good, very good, exactly
- 25:18exactly. So all right, let's move to the running back position. DeAndre
- 25:23Swift sixteen carries one hundred and thirty yards eight point one yards per carry.
- 25:26As I mentioned earlier in the show, Kenny Gainwell fourteen fourteen carries forty three
- 25:32yards on the night, three point one yards per carry. Jalen Hurts had
- 25:36ten carries in this game, twenty eight yards two point eight yards per carry.
- 25:41This team averaged five yards per carry on forty carries. It's just it's
- 25:47just an incredible, incredible dominance. Two hundred and one total yards on the
- 25:52ground. I'm gonna give the running backs, and I know I put Jalen
- 25:55Hurts in there in terms of his stats, but but the running backs running,
- 26:00yeah, I mean they didn't score touchdown. Jalen Hurt certainly scored a
- 26:03rushing touchdown. But I'm going to give them an a this week, and
- 26:06especially because of DeAndre Swift and what he's been able to do. What do
- 26:08you what do you give him? I'm kind of like in my own mind
- 26:12kind of battling, you know, are we spoiled? I mean, you
- 26:15know, you're putting up two fifty two hundred, two hundred. They only
- 26:19did two touchdown. They just totally dominated. Every time there was a third
- 26:25and one, yeah, or fourth and one that you knew what the whole
- 26:27stadium knew what we were doing. They couldn't stop it. But we didn't
- 26:30score enough touchdown, So it's not an So we're kind of we're kind of
- 26:34spoiled in that respect. So but I still agree. I think it's I
- 26:38think it's an A. I need to see gain Will still game will still
- 26:45disappointing me. I would like to see again, I need to see more
- 26:48Penny because I'm not convinced that Gainwell's, like you know, needs to be
- 26:53your number one or your number two. And that's just me being honest.
- 26:57Okay, all right, very good. Let's move to the receivers. Wide
- 27:00receivers and tight ends in this game here two hundred and seventy seven total yards
- 27:06receiving, led again by A. J. Brown, one hundred and thirty
- 27:08one yards on the day, average fourteen point six yards per reception, Ola
- 27:14matte Zacus twenty nine yards he averaged on two catches fifty eight total yards.
- 27:21Dallas Goddard came down with five balls for forty one yards and DeVante Smith came
- 27:23down with four balls for twenty eight yards. I am going to give the
- 27:27receivers in this game because I think at times there was probably maybe some miscommunication.
- 27:34AJ Brown he led a couple passes U you know, go right off
- 27:40of his fingertips as well. I'm going to give the receivers in this particular
- 27:42game of B plus. What do you give them or more like a B
- 27:48There are, like you said, concentration, dropsy. A J. Brown
- 27:52had a touchdown that would have helped Jalen stat line, which is, you
- 27:56know, apparently all we're gonna talk about this week. So yeah, I
- 28:03think that they can play better. But again this is just you know,
- 28:06us being a little spoiled at the moment because yeah, A J. Brown
- 28:08who just hammered these guys for what eight eight for one thirty nine for one
- 28:15thirty one yep, targets, fourteen targets. Yes, we're spoiled up.
- 28:26Yes, it is absolutely offensive line. I'm giving them a straight up A
- 28:30plus because DeAndre Swift was just incredible. The pass protection was incredible as well.
- 28:37There's not too much else to say. Again, as I said,
- 28:40a top of the show. Offensive line, defensive line. This was a
- 28:42game that was won in the trenches. They're offensive lines getting an A plus
- 28:45for me? What do you give them? Buddy? Can we send the
- 28:48whole whole offensive line to the Pro Bowl? Let's do it. Let's start
- 28:55the campaign right now, Let's do it. Little all have to start.
- 29:00But can they all go? Because Cam Jurgons there were a lot of questions
- 29:04about Cam Jurgons. Is he was he going to be able to get the
- 29:07leverage to continue to power like Samalo did at rank guard and still power and
- 29:12u through people for two hundred yards and for all these qbats, sneaked tush
- 29:17pushes and such. He's answering the call. And so who's the missing?
- 29:23I mean, they're all good. You got. I mean, there's no
- 29:26there's no weak link on the start air five, there's no weak link exactly
- 29:32exactly. Let's move over to the defensive side of things. Not much needs
- 29:37to be said for the defensive line. A plus? What do you give
- 29:38them? I mean, how could they have played better? I guess you
- 29:42need a strip sack. I mean, yeah, safety, you know,
- 29:47just oh my gosh, it was just incredible. They were aided by Baker
- 29:52with no QB pocket awareness tonight. I do got to throw that disclaimer in
- 29:56there because I want to make some people know, you know, we're not
- 29:57bssing them on this. Because Baker took sacks tonight and held onto the ball
- 30:03too long and situations where it was clearly not nothing happened. He needed to
- 30:07throw it away. He tried to keep plays alive. He's looking real,
- 30:11Baker Biggs. So absolutely all right. The linebackers, I'm gonna give him
- 30:15a straight up be like I said, you know, talking to There's not
- 30:19too many linebackers on this team, as we know, but the two that
- 30:22were there and really playing tonight, I think they played a solid game.
- 30:26And again Zach Cunningham again one of the most underrated storylines I personally think this
- 30:30season. So I'm giving him a B. What do you give him?
- 30:33Yeah, I'm in that range B B. Plus. I liked the safety
- 30:37was good. I liked that forty one Morrow got the got the attack on
- 30:41that one. And so they played as well as we need them to play.
- 30:45I mean, clearly, how he again, like we said, how,
- 30:47he doesn't give a damn. He's like, hey, Jeff, Matt,
- 30:49you get out there, hit behind Jordan Davis, follow him, there's
- 30:55gonna be nobody to touch you. Hit the quarterback, stop the running back.
- 31:00Nice all right, the secondary safeties and cornerbacks, there were certainly some
- 31:07challenges, but at the end of the day, Tampa Bay's receiving one hundred
- 31:11and forty six yards total and I think they just did a bang up job.
- 31:15And again, I mean having James Bradberry back again, having Read blanket
- 31:18Ship back was just a great just great for the defense overall. I'm gonna
- 31:25give them this week and b plus, what do you give them? Same?
- 31:29Same? I like it first game without Avonte Maddox. I did like
- 31:33that they were mixing in Sydney Brown some read Blanketship has been awesome. I
- 31:37mean, the guy is he's playing not to get out of because you know,
- 31:44Gardner Johnson was getting picks. He's ball hawking, but playing the safety
- 31:48position minus like the splash of like a ball hawk play. Read Blanketship is
- 31:53playing the position at the level of like as good as you want somebody to
- 31:59be playing. Say yeah yeah, and I'm not you know, laying it
- 32:02on thick. I mean, he's just he's not he's not cooking he's not
- 32:07like making Sports Center plays, but he's in the right position every time,
- 32:13finishing up, you know, tackles on running backs. If a guy's catching
- 32:16a pass over the middle, the guy brought him down, he's trying to
- 32:20finish on the right angle to try to punch the ball out or hit the
- 32:22ball out. He's playing the position at a high level right now. I
- 32:28don't know about Pro Bowl, but at a high level, very high level.
- 32:30Absolutely. All right, Uh, we're gonna move over to the coaches.
- 32:34Here is where running a little low on time. We're gonna start with
- 32:38special teams, and boy, the special teams unit here, Holy crap.
- 32:42We actually saw some good stuff from Britain Covey. We saw we saw a
- 32:45fifty two yard punt return in the first quarter. And this boy, this
- 32:51good boy is averaging twenty seven yards per punt return on three returns in this
- 32:58game. I loved it. I loved seeing it. It's like, my
- 33:00gosh, you know that that fifty two yarder mats kind of look Darren Sprowl's
- 33:06ish. I'm not gonna go there necessarily, but it was just nice to
- 33:08see. And maybe you're giving him an a minus. I'm giving him A.
- 33:13There you go, A minus for special teams. I am totally with
- 33:16you. You had Jake Elliott making all three of his field goals, two
- 33:20of his extra points, his field goals at thirty eight, thirty six,
- 33:23and twenty six yards. I don't know how good Brandon Man is. He
- 33:28only had one point when thirty eight yards inside the twenty went to the sixteen.
- 33:32I don't want to see you stay on the side of exactly keep this
- 33:37guy, hire me a couple of all right, A minus for special teams.
- 33:45The defensive side of things, boy, we gotta give the defense here
- 33:47a straight up A. They I be incredible, incredible performance. Are you
- 33:53going to give him an A as well? Matt? Yeah. The only
- 33:58reason I don't give him an eight because it was Baker who was sucking tonight.
- 34:01Yeah, honestly, Yeah, absolutely, But you have to take advantage
- 34:06of your opponents, and they certainly did that when he was down and out.
- 34:08I don't know if I could say that, old pst, but that's
- 34:12what he was doing. You can, yes, no, you can,
- 34:15all right. Moving over to the offense, Nick Sirianni, Brian Johnson,
- 34:20I'm gonna give these gentlemen, uh in a minus this week. I don't
- 34:22know, some curious calls here and there, but overall overall, I mean,
- 34:28what you're on the road, you know, you're putting together a game
- 34:31plan and and you're you're you're wanting to exploit what the defense is giving you.
- 34:37And that's what they did. So I'm giving them an a minus.
- 34:39What do you give them? Yeah, a minus. The one call that
- 34:45sticks out to me and I know we're running low on time was the third
- 34:49was the second and one they got down the second one down by the goal
- 34:52line close towards the end of the game. Uh, not the last drive,
- 34:57but the second to last drive they were trying to score. They throw
- 35:00the second one the slant to A J. Brown. He throws it over
- 35:06Neil's hands, but AJ drops it. They should have run it on that
- 35:09play and just thrown too straight. Uh, if you're gonna if you don't
- 35:14get it on, if you don't get it on second from the ground,
- 35:16then you then you throw on on third and fourth. Really, but so
- 35:22that's the one. They're just moments where it's a little too cute, a
- 35:25little too cute. Yeah, we saw those moments for sure. Great great
- 35:30show, great podcast here with you again, folks. Matt Rogers from the
