- 2:01Speaker 1: let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go. It's a story.
- 2:05Speaker 1: You need to hear it to believe. Then grab your
- 2:08Speaker 1: popcorn because there is more. I have not shed any
- 2:15Speaker 1: tears at all for NPR National Public Radio. There is simply,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and I'm going to say this as clearly as I can,
- 2:34Speaker 1: no need for NPR. That is different than whether or
- 2:40Speaker 1: not I think NPR should exist. The answer is if
- 2:45Speaker 1: they want to self fund and not take government money,
- 2:48Speaker 1: our taxpayer dollars to engage in real nonsense in terms
- 2:53Speaker 1: of reporting, well then that's fine. Go out there and compete,
- 3:00Speaker 1: do what it is that we do every single day.
- 3:04Speaker 1: By the way, if the question is do we need
- 3:06Speaker 1: to exist, well not necessarily. I think local radio matters,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and I think it matters greatly. But we have to
- 3:13Speaker 1: prove ourselves. We have to go out there and exist
- 3:16Speaker 1: every day. We have to prove ourselves to sponsors, We
- 3:19Speaker 1: have to prove ourselves regarding ratings. We have to show
- 3:22Speaker 1: that we provide a value, and we at WIBC most
- 3:26Speaker 1: definitely provide a value. NPR doesn't have to do that,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and Kathin Maher, the CEO over there, has never had
- 3:34Speaker 1: to do that. Opposed to free speech, opposed to ensuring
- 3:38Speaker 1: that the stories are actually accurate, as opposed to being
- 3:42Speaker 1: ideologically driven. Nah, no one needs NPR. If NPR wants
- 3:50Speaker 1: to compete, NPR is more than welcome to compete. This
- 3:56Speaker 1: brings us to Ken Burns, who is upset regarding what's
- 4:01Speaker 1: going on with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This was him.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I don't think he curses in this in this interview
- 4:08Speaker 1: with John Avalon. John Avalon is a noted anti trumper,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and this was their conversation. It's a big deal.
- 4:18Speaker 2: They killed the the Corporation for Public Broadcasting incredibly short sighted.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It'll hurt mostly rural communities. Maybe that's their intention. They'll
- 4:26Speaker 2: be news deserts. Nobody will be covering the school board
- 4:29Speaker 2: or the city council meeting. They'll miss not only the
- 4:32Speaker 2: children's and primetime programming, but they'll miss you home land
- 4:36Speaker 2: security stuff, continuing education, classrooms, of the air warning stuff
- 4:42Speaker 2: that comes from the PBS.
- 4:44Speaker 1: That's a lie. It's a lie. Nobody was tuning into
- 4:51Speaker 1: the Corporation for Public Broadcasting or NPR for their local
- 4:58Speaker 1: town council. They were going to local sources for that.
- 5:06Speaker 1: It wouldn't you want the most controversial thing I'll ever say,
- 5:11Speaker 1: the thing that will make more people say I can't
- 5:13Speaker 1: believe you just said that, But it's absolutely true.
- 5:17Speaker 2: If you wanted to.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Know what was going on in Brownsburg, Indiana, where are
- 5:22Speaker 1: people tuning in more NPR or Rob Kendall. My work
- 5:26Speaker 1: here is done. Everybody, thank you, good night.
- 5:32Speaker 2: End of the list.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It's not a debate. There's no question here. No one
- 5:39Speaker 1: is touting there's gonna be news deserts. I'm sorry, everyone's
- 5:43Speaker 1: without a phone and an app. This is a lie,
- 5:48Speaker 1: This is fraudulent. This is a childlike tantrum being happening
- 5:54Speaker 1: here from the film director Ken Burns, who, by the way,
- 5:57Speaker 1: has done some great work and fascinating, a unique and
- 6:01Speaker 1: different It really created a whole presentation. But holy hell,
- 6:06Speaker 1: what a lie, What a fraudulent thing to say. Let
- 6:11Speaker 1: NPR compete. Let them compete, by the way, let them
- 6:14Speaker 1: all compete. There's nothing ideologically strange about what it is
- 6:19Speaker 1: that I'm saying here. Everything is consistent with me. Competition
- 6:25Speaker 1: is good, the market is good. If NBR is so good,
- 6:29Speaker 1: go out there and win. We need it. We don't
- 6:31Speaker 1: corporation for public broadcasting. We need it. We don't Sesame
- 6:35Speaker 1: Street gets tax breaks and gets to sell Big Bird
- 6:38Speaker 1: and Elmo and profit. No no no, no, no, no no no
- 6:41Speaker 1: no no. And I like Sesame Street, not anti Sesame Street.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I'm not anti electric company. I'm not anti three to
- 6:47Speaker 1: two one contact. Am I the only person remembers three
- 6:51Speaker 1: two on contact? I'm not. I'm certainly opposed to the
- 6:55Speaker 1: ideological clap trap that can happen in those places, but
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'm opposed to that everywhere. Go out there and sell
- 7:01Speaker 1: it and then present it to people. That's the answer,
- 7:06Speaker 1: The market's the answer always is the ken Burns here.
- 7:16Speaker 1: That's news deserts, that's just garbage. And if you buy
- 7:21Speaker 1: into that, you're probably somebody who listens to a lot
- 7:24Speaker 1: of NPR
