- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Bucco Territory presented by
- 0:13Speaker 2: the Foul Territory Network. I'm your host, Noah Hiles, and
- 0:16Speaker 2: as always, joining me are my co hosts j Aka
- 0:19Speaker 2: Josh Harrison and Platinum Key aka Mark Fellas. A lot
- 0:23Speaker 2: to get into, and we will start the show with
- 0:26Speaker 2: some widespread baseball news. The Dodgers ruined the sport again.
- 0:32Speaker 2: That was the reaction this weekend or was that Thursday?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Is when that news broke right, Yes, because I was
- 0:41Speaker 2: leaving the Penguins game when that signing was announced.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker signs.
- 0:45Speaker 2: A four year, two hundred and forty million dollar deal
- 0:50Speaker 2: that's a sixty million dollar AAV with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The Mets allegedly or reportedly offered him more money of
- 1:00Speaker 2: only a small fraction of this is deferred compared to
- 1:04Speaker 2: other deals, but still, I mean, this is just another
- 1:07Speaker 2: thing where another great player goes to the Dodgers, another
- 1:12Speaker 2: high paying contract.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Goes to their payroll, and you look at it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I've never seen, I have not seen a transaction in
- 1:22Speaker 2: the sports world this universally hated.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Since when Kadie.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yes and that was different in the sense where it
- 1:34Speaker 2: was like people were more mad at KD Right. It
- 1:39Speaker 2: was like the individual player saying like, why would you
- 1:42Speaker 2: allow this super team to be created?
- 1:45Speaker 1: You created an imbalance where.
- 1:47Speaker 2: This was everyone's just mad at the one team, just
- 1:52Speaker 2: saying like, you've got to be kindning and it's mad
- 1:56Speaker 2: at the team and mad at the league, just mad
- 1:58Speaker 2: at the situation.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Mark. I mean, you're a die hard.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Fan of a team that now, I mean, Kyle Tucker
- 2:05Speaker 2: is making two thirds of their payroll for this.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Time coming and that's not counting a luxury tax.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Right, So I mean that's what what do you have
- 2:13Speaker 2: to say when you see something like this?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was shocking. You you know that
- 2:19Speaker 3: there's not a lot of parody in the sport, but
- 2:22Speaker 3: I kind of assumed that the Dodgers weren't going to
- 2:25Speaker 3: pay one hundred and ten percent luxury tax on sixty
- 2:28Speaker 3: million and pay a guy one hundred and twenty six
- 2:31Speaker 3: million dollars or whatever per year, or not pay him,
- 2:34Speaker 3: but pay one hundred and twenty six million for a player.
- 2:37Speaker 3: So that was shocking. I mean, you know, the Pirates
- 2:40Speaker 3: are never going to be close to the top. Hell,
- 2:44Speaker 3: I'm I'm excited that they're not bottom five. You know,
- 2:46Speaker 3: that's that's a winner. Yeah, exactly. So I guess it
- 2:53Speaker 3: didn't really change anything from a pirate's perspective. It only
- 2:57Speaker 3: just highlights how uncompetitive baseball is right now. It feels
- 3:03Speaker 3: like it's it's frustrating. You know, you'd like to see
- 3:07Speaker 3: some of these top teams at least spread out the talent,
- 3:09Speaker 3: but just have all of this talent pool in the
- 3:11Speaker 3: one team. And I think the difference between Kevin Durant
- 3:15Speaker 3: during the Warriors, all the teams that offer Kevin Durant
- 3:19Speaker 3: in that offseason, we're offering him the same contract. And
- 3:23Speaker 3: here you can't blame Kyle Tucker because he took the
- 3:27Speaker 3: deal that gave him the most money. If I was
- 3:30Speaker 3: in Kyle Tucker's scenario, I probably would have done the
- 3:33Speaker 3: exact same thing. I think a lot of us would have.
- 3:36Speaker 3: You know, it's hard to be like, eah, I'll just
- 3:37Speaker 3: take a few million less to, you know, maintain the
- 3:40Speaker 3: balance of the sport. No, so I don't put it
- 3:43Speaker 3: on Kyle Tucker. I put it on where major League
- 3:45Speaker 3: Baseball is right now, and it sets us up for
- 3:49Speaker 3: a very very interesting offseason next year, Josh.
- 3:52Speaker 2: As a former player, obviously you're happy to see guys
- 3:57Speaker 2: get this type of money, right, you want to see
- 3:59Speaker 2: everybody get paid. But if you're a player on any
- 4:03Speaker 2: other team but the Dodgers, and you're just seeing this
- 4:06Speaker 2: offseason where they're adding Diaz, they add Kyle Tucker in
- 4:10Speaker 2: addition to what they already have, I mean, are you
- 4:13Speaker 2: are you able to recognize that, Hey, like, it's great
- 4:16Speaker 2: to see everyone getting paid, but our sport has a
- 4:19Speaker 2: flaw here and it's hard to ignore.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Definitely, as a player, you know this is what you, ultimately,
- 4:27Speaker 5: I don't want to say play the game for, because
- 4:28Speaker 5: you play for the love of the game. For me,
- 4:31Speaker 5: money is always just a byproduct of what happens. And granted,
- 4:34Speaker 5: we know where free agency stands in the market, and
- 4:38Speaker 5: you know what's happened over the course of baseball's you know, lifespan.
- 4:43Speaker 4: But as a player, I never really got.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Too much into what teams had who or what, because
- 4:50Speaker 5: at the end of the day, these are guys I'm
- 4:51Speaker 5: playing against.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I think I'm just as good, if not better.
- 4:54Speaker 5: And at the same time, we know there are levels
- 4:57Speaker 5: to you know, free agent signings and some aren't gonna go.
- 5:01Speaker 4: To certain levels.
- 5:02Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, you know, as
- 5:04Speaker 5: a player, I didn't really care who signed where.
- 5:06Speaker 4: All I cared about was who was in the locker
- 5:08Speaker 4: room with me.
- 5:10Speaker 5: And yes, there are times that within that locker room
- 5:12Speaker 5: I felt that we didn't have a team that was,
- 5:14Speaker 5: you know, fully equipped to compete in.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Every day and every night.
- 5:19Speaker 5: But that also wasn't something I can control. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 5: that's that's ultimately an organization thing. But yes, you can
- 5:26Speaker 5: look around and say, oh man, the Dodgers got better,
- 5:28Speaker 5: but some other teams have also gotten better. And the
- 5:30Speaker 5: Dodgers went seven games with the Blue Jays. It's not
- 5:33Speaker 5: like they just ran through the whole league. Yes, you
- 5:35Speaker 5: can look on paper and look at what they have,
- 5:38Speaker 5: but I'm a firm believer that paper is in everything.
- 5:40Speaker 5: You know, you can have the best team on paper,
- 5:42Speaker 5: but that doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna win. And while
- 5:45Speaker 5: the while the Dodgers have won the last two years,
- 5:47Speaker 5: I mean, things have just gone right for them. And
- 5:50Speaker 5: you know, if that's a team that's got everything going right,
- 5:52Speaker 5: why wouldn't they try to make their team better? And
- 5:54Speaker 5: if that is at the expensive you know the rest
- 5:57Speaker 5: of the league being upset. I mean, at the end
- 5:59Speaker 5: of the day, you know, that's just the nature of
- 6:02Speaker 5: where we are. But you know, as I said, as
- 6:04Speaker 5: a player, you don't really sit here and be like, oh,
- 6:07Speaker 5: the Dodgers are the monster. No, the Dodgers are the
- 6:09Speaker 5: LA Dodgers. They are a Major League Baseball team just
- 6:11Speaker 5: like the other twenty nine. But the other twenty nine,
- 6:14Speaker 5: you know, also have to make sure they're doing their
- 6:16Speaker 5: due diligious to put the best product on the field.
- 6:18Speaker 5: You know, we can't just sit here and point fingers
- 6:21Speaker 5: and also know that not everybody has the same spending power,
- 6:23Speaker 5: but to some extent, there is more that could be done.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I had a couple of reactions to this one. One
- 6:32Speaker 2: the people who are mad at Tucker, I don't understand it.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I mean, if you're a major League baseball player, why
- 6:36Speaker 2: in the world would you not want to play for
- 6:38Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Dodgers right now? I mean, you have
- 6:41Speaker 2: no pressure when you're at the plate. I mean Otawani's
- 6:45Speaker 2: at bats aren't as pressure because he has Mookie Betts
- 6:48Speaker 2: sitting behind him, or Freddy Freeman or however.
- 6:52Speaker 1: They want to structure this lineup.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean it's a thing where I mean you kind
- 6:57Speaker 2: of know it's like, yeah, they have the best odds
- 6:59Speaker 2: to win, and they're paying the most, They're playing the best,
- 7:04Speaker 2: they have the best front office, they have the best analytics.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They do everything right.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It's not just the team that's coming in here with
- 7:11Speaker 2: the big pay, the big pocketbook.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That was supposed to be the Mets.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Right when Cohen bought the Mets, he was supposed to
- 7:17Speaker 2: be the guy that came in and changed baseball and
- 7:20Speaker 2: just offered everything. But you're seeing he's not necessarily taking
- 7:24Speaker 2: the highest offer because the Mets missed the playoffs last year.
- 7:27Speaker 2: He went to the better team that was offering high pay.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And I want to give credit here. Just Baseball's podcast
- 7:34Speaker 2: mentioned this, this this.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Concept that I totally agree.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Steve Cohen was supposed to be this like bad guy, right,
- 7:41Speaker 2: this this evil empire who came in and spent all
- 7:44Speaker 2: this money.
- 7:44Speaker 1: He's being used as a pawn. Now they're just using him.
- 7:48Speaker 2: To say, Okay, this is what we'll offer something just
- 7:53Speaker 2: slightly higher or something in that neighborhood and they'll come
- 7:56Speaker 2: play for us because we're a better organization than the
- 7:58Speaker 2: new York.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Mets in that game for the Mets.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah, not for the Mets.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And that's that's what's crazy, is they're just taking advantage
- 8:06Speaker 2: of this in a different way. But yeah, it's I mean,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think when I saw that number, I thought, that's
- 8:13Speaker 2: a dramatic overpay for Kyle Tucker, a guy who's never
- 8:16Speaker 2: had a five war season. I mean, I I if you,
- 8:20Speaker 2: regardless budget aside, if I had to find the most
- 8:24Speaker 2: value with sixty million dollars in one season, I don't
- 8:27Speaker 2: know if you're getting the best bang for your buck
- 8:30Speaker 2: in Kyle Tucker. I don't think the Dodgers care. I
- 8:33Speaker 2: think that's it. This was a flex. This was a
- 8:36Speaker 2: flex on the whole league. It's it doesn't matter how
- 8:39Speaker 2: poor you are or how rich you are. We can
- 8:42Speaker 2: get whoever we want, and we will decide the price.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And if we overpay, oh well we wanted Kyle Tucker
- 8:48Speaker 2: and we.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Have them now and you don't. And that's the problem.
- 8:51Speaker 2: When they have such a high demand that it doesn't matter,
- 8:56Speaker 2: Like logic doesn't apply, finances.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Don't really apply. That nothing else I mean.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Cares.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they've just created such a high demand because I mean,
- 9:08Speaker 2: they're not cheating.
- 9:09Speaker 1: They're not doing anything illegal, but.
- 9:11Speaker 2: They've just recognized the system that was in place and
- 9:16Speaker 2: created a plan that worked so.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Flawless, and now they can't be stopped. And I think
- 9:21Speaker 1: it is going.
- 9:21Speaker 2: To have to take some some structured changes to even
- 9:26Speaker 2: out the playing field because I don't know how you
- 9:28Speaker 2: slow this monster down now. It's it's gotten to a
- 9:30Speaker 2: point where, I mean, you you, if they stay healthy,
- 9:33Speaker 2: there's just no way.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And other teams beating them, there's just no way. And
- 9:37Speaker 1: I don't watch yeah baseball, but I mean it is,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but baseball.
- 9:45Speaker 5: I mean, good teams stay healthy all the time. It's
- 9:47Speaker 5: sometimes underperformed baseball. That's why I don't believe fully in it.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Like I get it.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yes, there there is a you know, disconnect all the
- 9:56Speaker 5: way through, but you are still banking on guys that
- 9:59Speaker 5: have to go out there and hit and perform. And yes,
- 10:01Speaker 5: they might be doing things a little bit better, makes
- 10:03Speaker 5: it a little bit more you know, attractive to guys
- 10:06Speaker 5: that want to go there because they see the success.
- 10:08Speaker 5: But at the same time, you know, this next year
- 10:12Speaker 5: is going to be a big year to see how
- 10:13Speaker 5: things happen, because I mean, off season is going to
- 10:15Speaker 5: be big free agency still you know, being affected by it,
- 10:19Speaker 5: but it's gonna it's not something that's going to be
- 10:22Speaker 5: easy to just shake up the system because as you see,
- 10:25Speaker 5: is the same conversations that's happened for years, and so
- 10:31Speaker 5: it's it's a slippery slope because what is the right fix.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Who's to say what is right, who's to say what's wrong?
- 10:37Speaker 5: You really got to get in the room and make
- 10:38Speaker 5: sure that both sides if there is some type of agreement,
- 10:41Speaker 5: so there's got to be compromised. But I don't think
- 10:43Speaker 5: you're going to see compromise from either side, at least
- 10:46Speaker 5: not soon.
- 10:47Speaker 2: No, no, no, I think this solidified the fact that
- 10:52Speaker 2: we're going to have a shortened baseball season.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's I mean Kyle Tucker's situation. He's like, well, I
- 10:59Speaker 4: mean I went to free agency the right year.
- 11:01Speaker 5: I mean, not being funny for sure, sure, I mean yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 5: that is a situation where he's like, you know what,
- 11:08Speaker 5: maybe he was like I might not have necessarily thought
- 11:11Speaker 5: about the Dodgers, but just the most money I'm gonna
- 11:13Speaker 5: get and we don't know what's gonna happen. Yeah, I mean, ultimately,
- 11:17Speaker 5: everybody's decision is their own decision, not whether you agree
- 11:20Speaker 5: with it or not. But I mean we're definitely headed down,
- 11:25Speaker 5: you know, some some tough times, tough for them probably.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And it's not just free agency either. I mean it
- 11:30Speaker 3: just was reported on Monday that the Reds had reached
- 11:33Speaker 3: out to Eli Da La Cruz for a contract extension.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I saw that and said that he had exceeded I
- 11:38Speaker 5: think Bottles right or something like that.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Ever, and he wasn't interested in Why would he be
- 11:45Speaker 3: because he just look at this free agency, right. I
- 11:48Speaker 3: would not be signing up for a deal until I
- 11:50Speaker 3: knew what after twenty twenty seven looks like.
- 11:53Speaker 2: So yeah, well there are still things to talk about
- 11:57Speaker 2: in the year twenty twenty six, things that to the pirates.
- 12:00Speaker 1: We're going to get into them after this break.
- 12:04Speaker 2: This episode is sponsored by So Many Angels, a nonprofit
- 12:07Speaker 2: founded by local photographer Matt Myers that provides free professional
- 12:10Speaker 2: photo experiences for children facing cancer and other life altering
- 12:14Speaker 2: medical diagnoses. Their photo sessions are designed to help kids
- 12:17Speaker 2: see themselves as strong, confident, and heroic. The next Pittsburgh
- 12:20Speaker 2: experience is February first, and they're currently looking for families
- 12:24Speaker 2: who could benefit visit So Many angels dot org to
- 12:26Speaker 2: learn more, share the link or find ways to support
- 12:29Speaker 2: this incredible Pittsburgh nonprofit.
- 12:31Speaker 1: That's so many angels dot org.
- 12:35Speaker 2: All right, talking some buckos now, guys, Geno Suarez. He's
- 12:41Speaker 2: probably the biggest name hitter still on the market right now,
- 12:45Speaker 2: and the Pirates are interested on Foul territory. We're recording
- 12:50Speaker 2: this on Monday, Ken Rosenthal talked about it. He said
- 12:53Speaker 2: he knows for a fact. He confirmed Jason Mackey's reporting
- 12:56Speaker 2: from earlier this month where the Pirates do have interest
- 12:59Speaker 2: in genoswar, but maybe that interest isn't as mutual, right.
- 13:04Speaker 1: He thinks that.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Suarez still would probably rather prefer to play for a
- 13:09Speaker 2: team that's a little bit more competitive. Didn't mention money
- 13:13Speaker 2: at all in his reporting there, which I found interesting. Guys,
- 13:18Speaker 2: let's just talk some Gino here, I mean, is this possible?
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean we've talked third base all off season.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I think both of us, or all three of us
- 13:28Speaker 2: are kind of under the belief that, you know, the
- 13:30Speaker 2: funds might be limited at this point. Who knows if
- 13:33Speaker 2: they have Gino Suarez money, and if they do have
- 13:36Speaker 2: Genosa as money, are they going to be able to
- 13:39Speaker 2: get this guy? Yes or no, and Mark like what
- 13:42Speaker 2: needs to be done in order for that to happen.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they need to show maybe sign one
- 13:47Speaker 3: more guy, make one more trade, make one more move
- 13:50Speaker 3: to really encourage him and say, hey, we're trying to
- 13:53Speaker 3: compete this year. This roster is far improved from last year.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I mean, Maingum, Ryan O'Hearn a big additions, But is
- 14:02Speaker 3: that really going to convince that Juhano Suarez not resigned
- 14:06Speaker 3: with the Seattle Mariners, who are projected to be one
- 14:09Speaker 3: of the best teams in baseball next year. And so
- 14:13Speaker 3: it's just all of this, the past incompetence from the
- 14:17Speaker 3: Pirates these past few off seasons coming back to bite
- 14:19Speaker 3: them when they're actually trying now. And I think that's
- 14:22Speaker 3: the biggest frustration is they could have built a team
- 14:26Speaker 3: that Gino Suarez would love to come to and would
- 14:29Speaker 3: have signed to already if they had made the right moves,
- 14:31Speaker 3: if they had approached the off seasons like how they've
- 14:35Speaker 3: approached this offseason for the last couple. You had Paul
- 14:38Speaker 3: Skins on the team last offseason as well, why not
- 14:40Speaker 3: do it then when he was gonna win a cy
- 14:42Speaker 3: Young So that part's a little frustrating. Can't blame Gino,
- 14:46Speaker 3: but I really really hope that it works out. Maybe
- 14:49Speaker 3: a couple million can convince him and if it's there,
- 14:55Speaker 3: but maybe this is just like a negotiation tactic where
- 14:58Speaker 3: he knows the Pirates are the most in did he
- 15:00Speaker 3: says he wants to win. Maybe that, you know, lights
- 15:04Speaker 3: a little fire under Ben Sherrington's seed enough to give
- 15:07Speaker 3: him that extra opt out or whatever to get in
- 15:09Speaker 3: the sign.
- 15:11Speaker 2: That's not to cut you off early, Josh, but I
- 15:14Speaker 2: just want to say, I mean, that's how I interpreted
- 15:17Speaker 2: Ken's reporting. Is this is hojrge Polonko two point zero.
- 15:22Speaker 2: This is the same exact rhetoric that came from Horny Hypolonko.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It's you know, yeah, this this team is clearly the
- 15:28Speaker 2: most interested in me. But is there anyone else, anyone
- 15:32Speaker 2: else who wants me?
- 15:33Speaker 1: Anyone better? Cool?
- 15:34Speaker 2: I mean, I can go to prom with the six,
- 15:37Speaker 2: but is there any seven or eight?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Right? Exactly yes, But that's how it reads.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It just seems like the pirates are more interested in
- 15:50Speaker 2: this guy than he is in them, and there's only
- 15:53Speaker 2: one way to overcome that, and that is overpaid.
- 15:56Speaker 1: That's what they have to do. And that's what this is.
- 15:58Speaker 1: This is a leverage play by Suarez.
- 16:00Speaker 2: You said I would rather go play for the price
- 16:03Speaker 2: that you're offering. I think a better team can offer
- 16:06Speaker 2: me that number or something close to it, and if
- 16:08Speaker 2: they do, I will go play there. If you want
- 16:11Speaker 2: me to sign with you right now, you're gonna have
- 16:13Speaker 2: to offer me a higher aav So, Josh.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I'll ask you, is this a guy where.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Rather than maybe offering him years, you just say, like,
- 16:23Speaker 2: we'll give you twenty million for one year and see.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Where it goes. Would that be the smarter pivot?
- 16:28Speaker 2: You just go all in with one high price tag
- 16:31Speaker 2: for one year and then say then you you know,
- 16:34Speaker 2: do what you did last year, and you get to
- 16:36Speaker 2: go through free agency all ever again.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Gino, No, while it may sound good to somebody, I
- 16:44Speaker 5: say no, one year twenty million is not enough to
- 16:48Speaker 5: say that I would be willing to spend. That's just
- 16:53Speaker 5: me personally. I can find value elsewhere and if that's
- 16:55Speaker 5: not gonna happen. It's one of those things where as
- 16:58Speaker 5: we sit here and say, this has been a long
- 17:01Speaker 5: time of doing to the player itself, and I don't
- 17:04Speaker 5: think one pay of twenty million is gonna be quite
- 17:07Speaker 5: worth it, because, as I say, you're banking on a lot.
- 17:09Speaker 4: What if he gets hurt?
- 17:13Speaker 5: You know, so instead of the twenty million, I would
- 17:15Speaker 5: almost look at maybe offering them some incentives. You know,
- 17:19Speaker 5: that might be another way to get somebody, because sometimes incentives, Hey,
- 17:23Speaker 5: if you play well, there's more.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Money to be made.
- 17:26Speaker 5: You know, I've gone through some contract negotiations where it's like, Okay,
- 17:29Speaker 5: this team might be offer more money, but this team
- 17:32Speaker 5: up front is like, you know, I know I've had
- 17:33Speaker 5: some injuries or you know, if I play X amount
- 17:36Speaker 5: of games or do this, you know, the potential earning
- 17:38Speaker 5: is more. So you know, you're gonna weigh options. And
- 17:42Speaker 5: I wouldn't necessarily throw twenty million at them. But whatever
- 17:45Speaker 5: his market is, obviously we know, you know, I agree
- 17:49Speaker 5: with you. It sounds like Polanco all over again, you know,
- 17:52Speaker 5: you know, trying to up the price. Is there somebody
- 17:55Speaker 5: that's going to go for it or obviously we know
- 17:58Speaker 5: you know, as we've talked, Pittsburgh probably will have to overpay.
- 18:01Speaker 5: But to me, can you can you somewhat do an
- 18:04Speaker 5: overpaid where it's like, you know what you can earn
- 18:06Speaker 5: the overpay if you exceed expectations.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I was gonna say, it's just ironic that that's your
- 18:13Speaker 2: thought process, because it goes back to Mark's answer, like
- 18:16Speaker 2: they they've already damned themselves in that route. I mean,
- 18:20Speaker 2: the Rowdy to Lez thing, the I KF thing, both
- 18:22Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four. They have a reputation that maybe
- 18:26Speaker 2: wouldn't want to have performance incentives and.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Spoke I wasn't aware of that, so.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, you know what now, And I will
- 18:39Speaker 2: say I know for a fact, I think O'Hearn. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 2: O'Hearn definitely has performance incentives in his deal, So I
- 18:46Speaker 2: mean that was that was worked out there. But yeah,
- 18:50Speaker 2: that is a stigma in addition to them being cheap.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I mean that kind of goes hand in hand players
- 18:56Speaker 2: And I've heard that from agents that players players on
- 19:00Speaker 2: the team worry when they get into the late months
- 19:03Speaker 2: of the season.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Are they gonna take it bad.
- 19:07Speaker 5: I've been on a lot of teams that and trust me,
- 19:10Speaker 5: they're not the only team that's a baseball yeah. Sure,
- 19:13Speaker 5: but but the teams that do it right, really, you
- 19:17Speaker 5: know what I mean. And I don't think it's anything
- 19:19Speaker 5: that's ever been put out, but teams will you know,
- 19:23Speaker 5: behind closed doors, people are like, oh yeah, man, I
- 19:25Speaker 5: remember so and so, like we weren't gonna make the playoffs,
- 19:28Speaker 5: but they made sure to get this dude a couple
- 19:29Speaker 5: of pinches to make sure he reached it, or or
- 19:31Speaker 5: they made sure that this guy got his inning slim,
- 19:34Speaker 5: you know what I mean. I was like, you know
- 19:35Speaker 5: that that's cool because guys work hard. But as you said,
- 19:39Speaker 5: they have a reputation, which obviously makes my point kind
- 19:43Speaker 5: of you know, moved at the point. You know, but
- 19:47Speaker 5: you know, you also have funny things different make things right.
- 19:50Speaker 2: It's just funny because I mean, there's there's those two
- 19:53Speaker 2: lists of teams, teams who do it the right way
- 19:55Speaker 2: and teams who maybe don't always do it the right way.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And the Pirates are buried deep on the latter list.
- 20:03Speaker 2: And for the way they've behaved in the last however
- 20:06Speaker 2: many years, and like what Mark said, I mean, I
- 20:08Speaker 2: think that's going to be the point here is they
- 20:10Speaker 2: probably could have got a lot more talent this offseason
- 20:14Speaker 2: had they just operated this way for the last couple
- 20:17Speaker 2: of years. And because they didn't, I think that the
- 20:22Speaker 2: bad pr that they brought onto themselves might be the
- 20:25Speaker 2: reason they don't have a Gino Suarez or a Horne
- 20:28Speaker 2: Boloco in their lineup on opening day, So I think
- 20:32Speaker 2: that's all we got. Want to remind everyone to subscribe
