Latest / NFL explained. / Week 14: Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Wow, what is up?
- 0:11Speaker 2: It is a Friday between this time for another edition
- 0:14Speaker 2: of the Stardom Citam Show. I am Marcus Grant, joined
- 0:16Speaker 2: by Michael lef Floyer, who writes the start Sit column.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Every week you can find an NFL dot com slash
- 0:22Speaker 2: starts to sit, And we got the Kawan Jones, who
- 0:24Speaker 2: does not write the start Sit column, but he apparently
- 0:27Speaker 2: is fascinated with strawberries. Now that's good enough to get
- 0:29Speaker 2: him on this show. How hard was it writing it
- 0:32Speaker 2: in by mcgeddon Part two?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Honestly, it was easier because I was like, you know what,
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm gonna have some fun with it and I'm gonna
- 0:39Speaker 3: throw out some names that I normally don't And the
- 0:41Speaker 3: CITs are a lot easier in weeks like this because
- 0:43Speaker 3: any big name player you're probably starting. So, yeah, don't
- 0:47Speaker 3: come for me and be like you're telling me to sit, guys,
- 0:49Speaker 3: I normally sit. Yeah, there's six teams on by that's
- 0:51Speaker 3: how it works, Lol.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Don't come for me, like the Internet's going to listen
- 0:54Speaker 1: to that anyway.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Don't come for him anyway, but you canna find him
- 0:58Speaker 2: on Twitter, ex Blue Sky, Blue Sky social media. Social
- 1:03Speaker 2: media dot com is where you can find Michael left
- 1:06Speaker 2: Florio if you have complaints that you want to register
- 1:08Speaker 2: that he can ignore easily.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Anyway, it's get the quarterbacks your starts and sits for
- 1:12Speaker 1: the week.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I'm starting Baker Mayfield, who has been very, very safe
- 1:16Speaker 3: this year. Good match against the Raiders, Like, I don't
- 1:19Speaker 3: see why you would not start him. Sam Donald, Like,
- 1:22Speaker 3: twenty twenty four has been a weird year, and maybe
- 1:24Speaker 3: the weirdest part of it is that Sam Donald is
- 1:26Speaker 3: one of the very safest quarterbacks in fantasy, and he
- 1:29Speaker 3: gets a good matchup against the Falcons justin Herbert. I
- 1:32Speaker 3: think he's gonna have to throw a lot in this one.
- 1:34Speaker 3: The Chief secondary has struggled as of late and they
- 1:36Speaker 3: are elite against the run. And then I have Matthew
- 1:39Speaker 3: Stafford against my Buffalo Bills for a similar thing. I
- 1:42Speaker 3: know they're gonna run all over the Bills, but I
- 1:44Speaker 3: think if it's a shootout, we could get Stafford throwing.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And I always trust Pooka and Cooper regardless of who
- 1:49Speaker 3: the secondary on the other side is. And then some sits.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I have two a tongue of Bai Looa as a sit.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Tough matchup against the Jets one of the toughest for
- 1:57Speaker 3: a quarterback. He doesn't have a lot of success against
- 1:59Speaker 3: them in his career, and I don't think he's gonna
- 2:02Speaker 3: be in ketchup mode or anything like that. I have
- 2:04Speaker 3: Gino Smith as a sit this week. Despite throwing the
- 2:07Speaker 3: ball a bunch. Gino has just three games this year
- 2:09Speaker 3: with more than eighteen Fantasy points, and he got shut
- 2:12Speaker 3: down two weeks ago in Seattle against his Cardinals secondary Uh.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Caleb Williams, this is one I went back and forth on,
- 2:19Speaker 3: but ultimately I was like, the Niners do generate pressure,
- 2:22Speaker 3: they do get sacks in an above league average rate,
- 2:25Speaker 3: and they they have made life tough on quarterbacks this year.
- 2:27Speaker 3: So this is a big test for Caleb and then
- 2:30Speaker 3: Kirk Cousins. This one I did not go back and
- 2:32Speaker 3: forth on at all. This was the easiest call in
- 2:34Speaker 3: the world. I am not starting Kirk Cousins the rest
- 2:37Speaker 3: of the year. I saw enough in Week thirteen that
- 2:39Speaker 3: I was like, there's no way I could.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Trust even in a revenge game. Huh.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Even look the revenge, the Vikings are gonna be high
- 2:45Speaker 3: fiving each other like we made the right call.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that revenge. What is that when you're I guess
- 2:51Speaker 4: on the other side of revenge, but it's not revenge.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You just kind of just pushed him down like a
- 2:55Speaker 4: little kid, like we already know what we knew what
- 2:59Speaker 4: the outcome is going to be.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Like no, I think it's just called bullying. I think
- 3:03Speaker 1: at that point is what it is.
- 3:04Speaker 2: There you go, there, you go, lakwan. Do you want
- 3:06Speaker 2: to ask you though about your guy Matthew Stafford, right?
- 3:08Speaker 2: I mean, because he's had good run lately, the Bills
- 3:10Speaker 2: have been tough on quarterbacks. I mean, how do you
- 3:13Speaker 2: feel about him this week against Buffalo?
- 3:15Speaker 4: This one I'm on the fence, but like Florio said,
- 3:17Speaker 4: it's by him again, you got six teams on buy.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I wouldn't be starting in this week just because I
- 3:21Speaker 4: know the Wolves that we've been battling. I mean, we
- 3:23Speaker 4: showed improvement on third down. We showed improvement in red
- 3:26Speaker 4: zone against the Saints, and this is some of the
- 3:28Speaker 4: strengths of the Buffalo Bills defense. It's keeping folks out
- 3:31Speaker 4: of the end zone, excuse me, and stopping you know,
- 3:34Speaker 4: drive short and you know, cutting it down on third down.
- 3:36Speaker 4: So I think it's going to be a huge test
- 3:38Speaker 4: for him. But I think the success of the Rams
- 3:40Speaker 4: offense is going to be on the ground, all right.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So there you go with the quarterbacks is move over
- 3:45Speaker 1: to running backs? Who do you like it? Who did
- 3:46Speaker 1: you not like this week?
- 3:48Speaker 3: Look, Lakwan's gonna love this one. I think Kyan Williams
- 3:51Speaker 3: is a mustard option this week against the Bills. I
- 3:53Speaker 3: know people were a little worried about him after a
- 3:55Speaker 3: couple of down games.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I'm not at all.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I think Tony Pollard is a smash star this week
- 4:00Speaker 3: in a fantastic matchup against the Jaguars Isaiah Pacheco. Look,
- 4:05Speaker 3: if there was no teams on By this week, maybe
- 4:07Speaker 3: I would try to get away from him. But with
- 4:09Speaker 3: six teams on By, I think it is worth getting
- 4:12Speaker 3: him into your lineup. And then Tyrone Tracy Junior a
- 4:15Speaker 3: lot of volume, pretty safe floor, some upside there in
- 4:19Speaker 3: a fantastic matchup against the Saints, and then my sits
- 4:23Speaker 3: drive a set and look, six teams are on by.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I don't care. I don't see any way you could
- 4:27Speaker 3: start him. He's been in single digit Fantasy points every
- 4:30Speaker 3: game since he has returned. Gus Edwards because the explosiveness
- 4:34Speaker 3: isn't there he's still sharing the backfield even though they're JK.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Dobbins and the Chiefs have been the toughest matchup. If
- 4:40Speaker 3: your name isn't Sincere McCormick, you probably have not had
- 4:43Speaker 3: success running against the Chiefs this year. Nick Chubb, I
- 4:46Speaker 3: know he's scored three touchdowns in his last two games.
- 4:48Speaker 3: He is so touchdown dependent though, I just I don't
- 4:52Speaker 3: want to start him if I don't have to, and
- 4:54Speaker 3: then Kareem Hunt. It was fun for a while, but
- 4:56Speaker 3: there's no explosiveness there so without with him losing the
- 4:59Speaker 3: volume now he is just like a top handcuffy one
- 5:02Speaker 3: on your bench, but not in your starting line up.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean that's the thing, like you might
- 5:05Speaker 2: not be able to start Kareem Hunt. I would hold
- 5:06Speaker 2: on to Kareem Hunt in the event something happens to
- 5:09Speaker 2: isaiahpachek Oh. He walks back in to a big opportunity.
- 5:12Speaker 2: El Q the I want to ask you about Tyrone
- 5:13Speaker 2: Tracy right because we've loved him for a few weeks,
- 5:16Speaker 2: had some fumbling issues. We started to see more Devin Singletarry,
- 5:19Speaker 2: But are you still confident that this is Tracy's backfield?
- 5:23Speaker 4: I think this is the confidence booster that he constantly.
- 5:25Speaker 4: You know, you have to give into these rookie running backs,
- 5:28Speaker 4: and you know the fumbling issues is obviously going to
- 5:30Speaker 4: put you in the doghouse. But he's actually been getting
- 5:32Speaker 4: more involved in the passing game. If you look at
- 5:34Speaker 4: last game, he was running some routes out there, getting
- 5:36Speaker 4: in a couple of catches. So therefore, against his Saints,
- 5:39Speaker 4: I think you saw last week Kyron Williams and Blake
- 5:42Speaker 4: korm have that back and forth and found success on
- 5:44Speaker 4: the ground. I think this is the matchup for Tyrone
- 5:47Speaker 4: Tracy to get back to being explosive, to get back
- 5:49Speaker 4: to being a solid RB two with a decent floor.
- 5:52Speaker 4: So I think this is going to be a great
- 5:54Speaker 4: week for him to get back on track.
- 5:56Speaker 2: All right, let's go to the wide receivers. Who are
- 5:58Speaker 2: your starts and sins for Week fourteen.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Starting Drake London and Darnell Mooney giving him another shot
- 6:03Speaker 3: in this good matchup. The Vikings play a lot of
- 6:06Speaker 3: zone and split safety coverage, and London and Mooney have
- 6:09Speaker 3: had success against them. They're both in the top ten
- 6:11Speaker 3: in yards against split safety. Jacobe Myers, I just keep
- 6:14Speaker 3: saying it. I think he is like the most underrated
- 6:16Speaker 3: wide receiver in fantasy. He's been averaging nearly sixteen Fantasy
- 6:21Speaker 3: points per game since DeVante Adams left Safe Floor high upside,
- 6:24Speaker 3: and the Bucks are in the top six and fantasy
- 6:27Speaker 3: points allowed to wide receivers. And then this is one
- 6:29Speaker 3: that I've gone on every show I've been on this
- 6:31Speaker 3: week and said to start Marquez Valdez Scantling. I know
- 6:34Speaker 3: it sounds wild, but he's averaged eighteen Fantasy points per
- 6:37Speaker 3: game in his last three and the Giants are the
- 6:39Speaker 3: best matchup for deep ball wide receivers. And then sits Marcus,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I know you agree with this one, even though you're
- 6:46Speaker 3: not gonna like it. Deebo Samuel. It just keeps getting
- 6:49Speaker 3: worse and worse and worse for Deebo. And now I
- 6:52Speaker 3: think he's gonna be used as a runner more often,
- 6:54Speaker 3: which some people might think it's a good thing. To me,
- 6:56Speaker 3: I'm like, we're losing all the valuable points he gets
- 6:58Speaker 3: for catching passes there. So I have him as a
- 7:01Speaker 3: sit if you can get away in a tough match
- 7:03Speaker 3: up against the Bears. Jalen Waddle a couple of weeks
- 7:05Speaker 3: ago was really fun, but he was back to his
- 7:07Speaker 3: usual ways last week, and he gets a really tough
- 7:10Speaker 3: matchup against the Jets, Adam feeling someone that I want
- 7:12Speaker 3: on my roster, just not in my lineup against the Eagles,
- 7:15Speaker 3: who have been playing lights out their secondary as of late.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And then Roma Dunze it's just not happening. And the
- 7:22Speaker 3: forty nine Ers are bottom two in yards against out
- 7:24Speaker 3: wide wide receivers and that's where he runs the bulk
- 7:26Speaker 3: of his routes.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned Debo, especially using him as a runner.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It seems as though those Jets sweeps that were so
- 7:33Speaker 2: effective a couple of years ago not hitting the way they.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Used to in that offense for the forty nine Ers.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So I would at because Florida obviously big on MVS.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Lak Wan won't get your thoughts MVS as as a
- 7:45Speaker 2: starter this.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Week, absolutely, man, the big players is there and you
- 7:49Speaker 4: love seeing him being used more as all around, you know,
- 7:52Speaker 4: wide receiver. He's getting short routes, he's getting you know,
- 7:54Speaker 4: intermediate looks from Derek Carr. But it's that deep ball
- 7:57Speaker 4: that you know you just bank on to have that boom.
- 8:00Speaker 4: But it's been booming for the last couple of games,
- 8:02Speaker 4: So why not start.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Him all right, So we are buying in on Marcuez
- 8:07Speaker 2: Valdez Scantling, who once by a time was one of
- 8:08Speaker 2: the top cardio kings out there, but now might get
- 8:11Speaker 2: some reward to go along with all the steps that
- 8:14Speaker 2: he is getting in.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Finalists turn to tight ends. Who do you like? Who
- 8:17Speaker 1: do you not like?
- 8:18Speaker 2: And there's a name that you like that I'm sure
- 8:20Speaker 2: La Kwan doesn't like for obvious reasons.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Look, I'm just making sure that the world knows. I
- 8:25Speaker 3: wrote about it and started to sit him. I talked
- 8:27Speaker 3: about it on Fantasy Live. Everyone in this building is
- 8:30Speaker 3: rooting for it now. John new Smith started. Look one,
- 8:33Speaker 3: he is the tight end one in the last month.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Two he is the Titan five on the year, much
- 8:37Speaker 3: to Lakwan's hairs disappointment. And then three the Jets are
- 8:41Speaker 3: great at limiting wide receivers, which could mean more volume
- 8:44Speaker 3: for the tight end. I'm gonna go with Kate Aten.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I have him as a start this week against the Raiders.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I know that a has disappointed, but the Raiders have
- 8:53Speaker 3: really struggled against tight ends as of late, so I'm
- 8:55Speaker 3: giving him one more chance this week. With six teams on,
- 8:58Speaker 3: buy will again disappointed last week, but the Chiefs most yards,
- 9:03Speaker 3: third most Fantasy points per game to tight end six
- 9:06Speaker 3: teams on by that gets him into play my sits.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I'm not doing it with Juwan Johnson in a tough matchup.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I don't see any way you trust Cole Comet and
- 9:14Speaker 3: then my boy Kyle Pitts, like it just is not
- 9:19Speaker 3: happening right now. I was telling you earlier, Marcus that,
- 9:22Speaker 3: like on most of my Kyle Pitts teams, I don't
- 9:25Speaker 3: love the waiver wire options. So I still have to
- 9:27Speaker 3: start him. But if you have another tight end and
- 9:29Speaker 3: or you could get away in some different way, I
- 9:32Speaker 3: think I would try to zero points last week, thirteen
- 9:34Speaker 3: and a half in his last four.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So look what I'm doing.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I want to ask you about Kyle Pitts because I
- 9:37Speaker 2: know you weren't the Kyle Pitts guy this year.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You bought in. Where are you right now? I'm the curse.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think we owe you.
- 9:47Speaker 3: No, no, no, you're not like this has been going on.
- 9:49Speaker 3: So I think heo you an apology for dragging you
- 9:52Speaker 3: on board with this.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I think you.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Guys brought me on the button and then it just
- 9:56Speaker 4: sunk all to the bottom damn Lake, because Wow, this
- 10:00Speaker 4: ride is very emotional, Like I know what you guys
- 10:03Speaker 4: have been going through now for these last couple of seasons.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Like you go back and look at his rookie season,
- 10:08Speaker 4: it was special Florio, Like it was one of those
- 10:10Speaker 4: builders where you're like, oh, this is generational talent, like
- 10:13Speaker 4: this is going to be the new like tight end
- 10:15Speaker 4: standard when it comes to fantasy, and it's just has
- 10:18Speaker 4: not worked out. I don't like, is he healthy?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Like I hope he is?
- 10:21Speaker 4: Like what's going on?
- 10:23Speaker 2: I mean, that's really what it's been at some point,
- 10:25Speaker 2: and you start to wonder, maybe it's just that he
- 10:27Speaker 2: was he's a big wide receiver who sort of dominated
- 10:31Speaker 2: in college, but that hasn't really translated into the NFL.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Maybe it's usage.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Maybe it's just that, you know, the skill set just
- 10:37Speaker 2: doesn't quite apply at least in terms of what we
- 10:40Speaker 2: were anticipating out of him. Maybe he hasn't have an
- 10:43Speaker 2: ingram sort of you know, resurgence in a couple of years,
- 10:46Speaker 2: but right now it's just not really working any income
- 10:48Speaker 2: to la Hey, Look, I mean, look, I think he
- 10:51Speaker 2: worked well. I'm sure Sean McVay could use a lot
- 10:53Speaker 2: of ways I find a lot of ways to use
- 10:55Speaker 2: Him's just.
- 10:56Speaker 4: To fix some organization.
- 10:58Speaker 1: We could fix him, not have it. It's like we can,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we can fix him.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I love that anyway. It's just not happening for him
- 11:04Speaker 2: in Atlanta. What is happening though, is the start sit article.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You can find that at NFL dot com slash start
- 11:10Speaker 2: hit to be sure to go over there and check
- 11:12Speaker 2: it out for more in depth analysis of a lot
- 11:14Speaker 2: of the names that Florio mentioned here. But that'll do
- 11:17Speaker 2: it for this edition of the Stardom Centum Show. Appreciate
- 11:19Speaker 2: you hanging out with us as always for the quand
- 11:21Speaker 2: for Florya. I am Marcus, Thank you for listening. Enjoy
- 11:24Speaker 2: the weekend. Hopefully it's a good one for you and
- 11:25Speaker 2: we will talk to you again real soon
