And we thought this podcast would be a good idea if you would like to go to Comic Cons too and know KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: how to navigate and how to have a great time. KENT: Yeah, and that's why we named it Conversations with Coffee. Except Liz doesn't drink coffee. What are you drinking, Liz? British Liz: coffee. This KENT: What do you got? Steel what is that? A Steelers mug? Are you a Steelers fan? British Liz: The family my extended family are stealers KENT: The family okay. British Liz: rabid stealers people. I mean KENT: Well you can see mine in the background, Denver Broncos. I grew up in Colorado, so you know, if I lift it up a little British Liz: Well I've I I lived in KENT: bit, there's two Bronco helmets here. But if you saw over here, I I I'm I'm gonna turn my camera, Liz, because you British Liz: Are you? I might get dizzy. KENT: might get dizzy. I'm gonna turn it just s slightly so you can see that that is a mean British Liz: There's a Steelers What is that? Is that a KENT: Joe Green. British Liz: Which is KENT: Mean Joe Green was like one of the all-time best players on the Steelers. Like Mean Joe good list. my goodness. Yeah, yeah. British Liz: I've only ever heard of Troy Polomalu, I'm sorry. That's that's like my limit. KENT: Troy in his hair. But Mean Joe Green. I know British Liz: His hair should have had its own team jersey. KENT: it could have been haired palomalo. British Liz: Ha ha ha. KENT: No, actually ask your family about Mean Joe Green. And then British Liz: Shell. KENT: I will follow up with you to see what you learned about mean Joe Green. But British Liz: I will probably have five pages of notes because they will know. so I am not at home, friends. I am I am in Virginia with KENT: I can tell by your background. Yes. British Liz: my f with my extended family and drinking from Steelers mugs, even though yes, I've never been to a Steelers game. Have I ever been to a pro football game? No. KENT: Probably not. Have you ever been to a football game? N not a British Liz: Soccer game? KENT: not a US football. International football. Football. British Liz: An international type football game. Yes I have. I saw several Reading FC games, Reading being KENT: Yeah. British Liz: my home team, KENT: Okay. British Liz: and I saw Aston Villa play Arsenal and KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: I saw a game in Basel in Switzerland, but I can't remember who that was between. KENT: Basil. British Liz: Basel Basel So that's my my giant sporting history. KENT: Have you have you ever been to like a baseball game? British Liz: yeah KENT: I curious cause I got the bats on the on my wall over here and stuff like that. I do look at this. I got like British Liz: Yeah, I s I know you're a bunch of bats. I KENT: like one, two, three, four, five. And that's only in the start of the baseball bats I have. British Liz: And are they signed by people? KENT: Of course they're all signed. I got British Liz: By what people? KENT: I got Carl Ripkin. British Liz: I've heard of him. I've heard of him. Nope. KENT: Yeah. Tony Gwen. Ken Griffey Jr. British Liz: Heard of him? KENT: Brooks Robbins. He's about as old as you are. Or older. British Liz: so twenty nine? KENT: Yeah yeah. And who else do I have? Alex Rodriguez. A rod. A rod. British Liz: Okay, so two two two out of five ain't bad, right? KENT: Yeah, and then I got other ones. I got Frank Thomas and I've got c Carl Mecklenburg. So, yeah. British Liz: So you have I didn't realise you had quite so much sports memorabilia. I mean I and KENT: I have I mean I have jerseys. I've got Peyton Manning. not a Peyton Manning. I have my gosh, I have Dick Bugkiss jersey, I have British Liz: Have you heard of him? KENT: yeah, Chicago Bears, I have British Liz: Duh Bears. KENT: Dub Bears, I have the refrigerator, I have a Spud Webb jersey, I've got basketballs, baseballs, jerseys. Yeah, I collect a lot. British Liz: Where where is all this stuff in your tiny office? KENT: it's in boxes still. it's be it's it's being Yeah British Liz: You need you need like you need some a barn or something so you can display all your stuff. KENT: Yeah, eventually. It's getting there. A little bit here and there. British Liz: I need that and I've I've been I've been collecting my autographs for approximately a quarter of the amount of time you have been. So KENT: Yeah, yeah. So British Liz: you're you're you're an old pro. KENT: Yeah, I just need to display it better. Takes time, money, you know, all that fun stuff. But so w you know, back to your Steelers British Liz: yes. KENT: Cup, what are we having? PG tips, the generic tea? British Liz: We are, yes, because my family members know what to get for me. PG. KENT: Do we call that the British Lipton? Is that what you called it? British Liz: I in terms of how common it is, yes, but not in terms of taste. It's just so KENT: Okay. British Liz: much yummier. Not not bitter, KENT: If you say so. British Liz: just perfect, practically. KENT: PG tips, if you're listening, just send a box of tea to Liz and she'll be happy. British Liz: I will be very happy if you do that. KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Awesome. I'm drinking my vanilla coffee, mild, bulletproof again. So coconut oil, little British Liz: Well, that's the coconut coconut oil thing. KENT: stevia for a sweetener. Yeah, it's good. it's creamy. Yes. British Liz: Okay, next time I come to your house, whenever that might be, you need to make me one, 'cause I'm I'm still slightly mystified. I'm mystified KENT: Done deal. Done. British Liz: as to what this is. All right. KENT: Done and done. So yeah, and it's a a fainting goat. So I'm gonna plug them just because I bought their coffee and it's so yummy. British Liz: Hang on, is the goat one the one that had the Star Wars blends? Yes. KENT: It did. Yep, yep, yep. Now here's the crazy one. I have a bag because I worked with GWAR, the band, British Liz: Mm. KENT: they have their own coffee and so I got a bag when I worked with them. So that might be on the next episode of GWAR Coffee. And then I'll show you the bag and stuff like that, but yeah, I will try a new bean. British Liz: Well it's like you know, having coffee, it's like all those actors and producers that have their own wines. KENT: yeah, and tequila. I just got off a cruise and I was in Cozumel and I did I got to do some tequila tasting. And I'll tell you what. Good tequila British Liz: It actually has a taste. KENT: tastes good. There is a difference British Liz: Mm. Okay. KENT: between commercial tequila, which is what we get in the stores, and British Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: the real stuff that's made in like Belize and Cozumel and like straight like mom and pop. Yes. British Liz: Really? KENT: big difference. Like I did chocolate and tequila tasting and and the tequila the Yeah, British Liz: Hang on, chocolate and tequila? Like together? KENT: because they got the cacao beans there and they grind them up and yeah, so British Liz: yeah. Yeah. KENT: real chocolate and real tequila. Ho there's a my gosh, I wanna go back because the bottles were like eighty bucks for a mom and pop because it's not commercialized. So British Liz: Yeah. KENT: it's you know, you gotta get it there and stuff. And of course it's a tourist thing, but it my gosh, way different. No burning sensation, you know, hundred proof. It's like a nice whiskey when you go to like British Liz: but would would Tammy approve? KENT: our friend Tammy would probably guzzle the British Liz: Ha ha ha. KENT: bottle. It's so good. I might next time I'm down there, I think I'm gonna buy a bottle just and then bring it with me to the different shows so I can give people samples so that they can see like good tequila tastes good. Anyways, British Liz: Mmm. I might even try some. KENT: there you go. You might get I might share some with you. British Liz: Ha ha ha ha. KENT: So Liz, what what have you been up to since I last talked with you? British Liz: Well, I went to Fan Expo Chicago. And that time I was working for the con. KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: So I I was hired as a handler, but KENT: nice. British Liz: they they didn't need me initially, but then on the second day, first day, don't remember, I was asked to assist a gentleman named Kentaro Ito from Japan, and KENT: Okay. All right. British Liz: he's a very well-respected voice actor who was brought over for the con from Japan. he was in Bleach, the original Japanese version of Bleach as KENT: Okay. British Liz: Renji, I think. Yeah, Renji is the name. I've never watched it, but but I got a real sense of how excited people were that he was there. and KENT: Mm. British Liz: funnily enough, right next to us was a gentleman called Wally Wingert. And he played Ren G in the English dub of Bleach. KENT: Okay. British Liz: And so you had all these people that were going nuts that both Ren Gs were there. So that was really great. Yeah. Yes. And KENT: So you have the American and the Asian Renji there. Now British Liz: so people got pops and they had both of them sign the pop of the character. And that was a great opportunity. KENT: Right. Now the okay. And now the Asian gentleman obviously didn't speak English, so yeah to have the interpreter. British Liz: Just you know, just a tiny bit. So he had an interpreter agent, and and they had a little team. And it was kind of interesting because I usually I will sit at the table with the celebrity guest and have interactions. And that's kind of the normal way it it goes, as you know. But in this case, all the sales were pre-sold for tickets. KENT: Mm-hmm. Yeah. British Liz: which happens, you know, a lot for especially for the the more popular guests. And so I all I really did was help process those tickets or, KENT: Okay. British Liz: you know, show people how to buy them online or else pay cash at the table. KENT: I've I've done that for Charlie Cox. You know, from Daredevil and stuff. pre sold tickets. You gotta come up, redeem your tickets so can get the autograph. It just makes the process a little bit easier, but they also know how many people are getting the autographs and stuff. So British Liz: Yeah. KENT: it can be fun and they can be a little mundane, but all in all you're still part of the show and and having fun. So yeah. British Liz: Well, it's all right, 'cause 'cause yeah, 'cause 'cause it's also because I mostly was like at the head of the line talking to people, it was also KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: kind of like my old job of line control. So it wasn't a massive line, but I was able to then engage with attendees and talk to them about about K Mr Ito and just the whole process. And so it was it really was fun, though I'm not used to standing quite so much. It it's KENT: yeah, I stand all the time. British Liz: been a while since I've had a full stand con. I usually get to perch for a little bit sometimes. but KENT: yeah. I usually mimic the talents, so if they're standing I'm standing. And if they're sitting I'm standing. British Liz: Yes. Well, I usually find if I'm behind the table, I usually find that whatever seat is there is usually my desk. That's where I keep all the is no room 'cause yeah. So so it was it was very KENT: Yes. Yes. Cause there's no room. 'Cause of all the prints. Yeah, that's all good. Yeah. British Liz: different. It felt like a like a trusted position since he was such a special guest. KENT: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. British Liz: And so I was happy to help out there. and yeah, so I that was great. But then also I did get to do two bucket list autographs. KENT: Okay. Now before you tell us the bucket list autographs, how was the census of the show? What were people like excited about the show? Were there specific people that they wanted to see? And that was the whole reason they came or what was what was the census from the show when you were talking to the fans? British Liz: There the I f I felt like the fans were jazzed to be there. It was quite crowded. KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: there was good energy, I felt, on the on the celebrity floor. KENT: Okay. British Liz: In fact, there were two floors. There was the downstairs, which was most of them, and then the upstairs, which were the headliners, plus they had, I think, three or four people from Supernatural, KENT: wow. British Liz: including Jared Padlecki. They had Lord of the Rings, let's see, they had six, they had four Hobbits, John Reese Davis KENT: They had a lot of people. British Liz: and Carl Urban. Carl Urban was downstairs with the boys people. So that was kind of a mix-up having KENT: Of course. British Liz: having them on two floors. But the the biggie was Kurt Russell. He made his first, I think it's his first con experience. KENT: Mm, mm. Debut. Yeah. British Liz: Which was it was interesting 'cause just as we're recording now that one of the last clips that were released for our previous newly released podcast, we had talked about Kurt Russell and how he hadn't done cons. Well, now he's doing cons. Or he's done one. Yes. Yeah, I KENT: Well then now he's doing one. Or he did one. Yes, yes, he did one. Hopefully it was a good experience for him. And you know, he might be at British Liz: I I heard I heard pe I I had heard I don't know, on Facebook or something, I'd heard that he had a great experience and KENT: yeah, 'cause Facebook tells all the truth. British Liz: Some of us believe everything we read on Facebook. KENT: Yeah. British Liz: so that was one of my bucket list autographs. I did I did KENT: Which was what? British Liz: Kurt Russell. KENT: you got Kurt Russell? Let me see. I think we have a video or a photo of it. is this it's showing on here? Let me see this beautiful British Liz: I did. I think you might there we go. Yes it is. KENT: shiny picture. look at that. And it's even tombstone. British Liz: Well I yeah, it had to be tombstone, didn't it, really? I mean this KENT: Of course. I mean not Little Trouble in Big China or anything like that. See Liz, the disappointment. I will shun you until you watch that. he's done so many great movies. British Liz: we talked about that. I still haven't watched it. You you may shun me. But that was that was s a real brief encounter. I I watched him sign. KENT: Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean they're busy. British Liz: I watched him sign and then I got it. So I didn't have any conversation, which was which was sad, but KENT: Yeah. Well, a when a big name is there and everybody wants to get their autograph, it's just makes the time less brief with the celebrity because they've got to get through yeah, British Liz: Or more brief. KENT: more brief. and it's just because, you know, when five hundred people show up to get a Kurt Russell, you've got to get through all those fans. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: and if you think about it, if you signed one autograph a second There's 60 seconds in a minute. I mean, well, even that. I'm like, let me let me yeah, it would British Liz: It's gonna take hours. Yeah. KENT: take out. I mean, if you could sign it just figure it out, signing one autograph a minute. That's 60 autographs in an hour. You know, and you gotta get through five hundred. Yeah, yeah. So, you know, it's and then you got photo ops British Liz: Which is not even a hundred. Yeah. Yes, it's it's a lot. KENT: and you got panels and stuff like that. And of course, British Liz: Yes. KENT: all the fans are there to get that one autograph, and then they're getting itchy and stuff because British Liz: I I had talked to people I had talked to people that flew in from England just for this meet. I mean just amazing. Yeah. Just KENT: Yeah, and then you're standing in a five hour line or more. So British Liz: yeah, so so the he at least was there for two days and KENT: Okay. British Liz: you know when things were spread out, hopefully at least he could grab some lunch or something. I don't know. the other Headliner guest was Mel Gibson, who was only there for one day. And his lines were nuts. And KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: one of these days I I will meet him, but I he does do some cons, so I knew that there'll be an opportunity in the future, but for Kurt Russell I did KENT: I wasn't I wasn't there. British Liz: not Yeah? KENT: I wasn't there, but the Mel Gibson photo ops, I guess, has been all over social British Liz: Yes I yeah. KENT: media. All over. Like he looks like he's doing a mug shot for going into jail. just not smiling, not happy, like why do I have to be here? kind of photo and it's like it's not just on Facebook, British Liz: It's it's very odd. KENT: it's Instagram and Twitter and People are talking about it and I was like, Wow That's all I can say. I can't my gosh. So yeah. People British Liz: Yeah. KENT: are taking these photo ops to social media recently, just because British Liz: you can understand, you know, if you've waited in line and you've paid the big bucks, you want a halfway decent picture out of it, surely. So KENT: Uh-huh. British Liz: I I don't know what can be done. KENT: Take another one. British Liz: Yeah, I dunno. but KENT: Mm. So you had Kurt Russell, you got his autograph, you Mel Gibson was there, you didn't see him or get to do anything because his lines were crazy. What who was the second one? Or the third one? British Liz: Well, I pity the fool that doesn't know. KENT: No no no you have to do it in a deeper I pity the fool. Like that, right? that guy. B.A. Barakus, is that what it is? Mr. British Liz: Yes, exactly. Yeah. Like him. That guy, Mr T. Yes. yeah, I and I I told him, you know, that show when I was a very young person in KENT: Kit. Uh-huh. British Liz: England was huge. The eighteen was just giant KENT: yeah. British Liz: in in Britain. I know it was here too, but for some reason that And the Dukes of Hazard were giant. You wouldn't have thought so. But well KENT: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Dun dun dun dun dun dun. I mean I could sing the theme song for eighteen. I won't hear 'cause I don't want to scare our subscriber away. British Liz: Well you just did, mate. KENT: But British Liz: He was such a nice man. You know, he KENT: Yeah, he British Liz: contrary to the B.A. Barackus persona of I'm you know, I'm so great and I'm gonna beat you all up, you know, he was so sweet and was saying saying, KENT: Yeah, yeah. Did he dress too? British Liz: you know, he's I don't know if you've seen on social media, he kind of wears this very USA outfit, like a KENT: Mm-hmm. Yeah, he's always been that way. British Liz: like a stars and stripes bandana and like a like like overalls KENT: Overalls. Yep. British Liz: with stars and stripes and and I mean it's it's c kinda cute. KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: And he was saying how he he hopes he can live up to the respect he's received from from his fans. And I'm like, that is so nice. I'd so kind of humble. KENT: Yeah, I mean not not only was he in the yeah. British Liz: Humble when his character was b KENT: Yeah. Well I mean he was scary and the you know the the muscle in A Team, but you know, you gotta remember he was also the muscle in Rocky. British Liz: Yeah, and Rocky. three, right? Rocky three. KENT: Yeah, and beat him up. I think it Rocky Three? yeah, one of the Rockies, he's the he's the bad guy and you know, I'm gonna break you and and all that stuff. So yeah, I mean my gosh. Liz, you're killing me. British Liz: I never saw that one. Well you know I just saw the first Rocky c few weeks ago. So I'm I'm told that one, I'm told three is really good. So KENT: s yeah. Is Rocky three the one with Dolph Lungren? Yes. British Liz: No, that's no, it's no, Rocky II has Carl Weathers again, then KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: Rocky III is Doc is Mr. T. Rocky IV is Dolph Lundgren. Now I've seen Dolph Lundgren, I've seen him from KENT: See, I think four is the best one. I must break you. British Liz: from from a distance, and one of these days when I watch Rocky four, I will certainly go in search of an autograph, but I haven't seen it yet. KENT: Okay. You gotta watch go watch it. You'll like it. British Liz: But I in Chicago, so I KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: also went to the Harry Potter shop with some friends and did not need the things that I bought. What a shock. KENT: Let me guess. Let me guess. You bought a wand. What? my goodness. You got a cloak. A a cape. British Liz: No, I have plenty of ones. No, I got I I have No, I got I got a trunk. KENT: Trunk I figured it would be at least British Liz: A trunk which KENT: like an owl. British Liz: No, it's a trunk but it's a purse. So it's like made of wood, but it has a strap. And I have a wooden purse. KENT: So you have a wooden purse. So you have a weapon. British Liz: Mm. Well I guess it it KENT: If somebody attacks you, you can just beat them over the head with your purse. British Liz: I know, but I can swing it like a sling and just pop KENT: Yeah, there you go. Just remind me not to be near you. British Liz: But and I had some butter beer, which was very sweet and not that great. And just bought a cup. KENT: Have have you was that your first chance having Butterbear? British Liz: No, I've had it at the Warner Brothers KENT: At universal. British Liz: studios in London KENT: Okay. British Liz: and at the at Universal, KENT: Yeah. British Liz: and I'd say between the three of them, all three were pretty disgusting. KENT: Huh. In your opinion. British Liz: In my humble, yeah. KENT: I know there's a lot of Harry Butter fans out there that really like the butter beer, but British Liz: I'm you know, I butterbeer is supposed to be wonderful, but I just feel like the recipe has not been reached to reflect how wonderful it's supposed to be. KENT: So now you need to make it and up to your standards. Yeah. And then we will challenge accepted. And then I will be the judge British Liz: Alright then. Challenge accepted. Alright. KENT: and the jury. So you make it, I'll taste it. Just like the tequila. We'll I'll give you a little tequila. You give me a little butterbeer, you know, we'll call it even. my goodness. More stuff. Holy cow, this is the most you've British Liz: Yes. But we also there's more. So KENT: ever talked. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: keep going. British Liz: So you know how you socialise with crew and friends after the corner's finished? Did you know that if you order Chicago deep dish pizza at ten PM, it doesn't show up for another forty five minutes? Were you aware? KENT: Well y yeah, 'cause deep dish pizzas take longer to cook. I mean it it takes about the same amount of time to make it, but it's a deep dish. But because it's deep dish, they gotta cook it longer. So I yeah, that'd probably take British Liz: Yeah, and KENT: about thirty minutes of cooking time, five minutes of prep time, so yeah. British Liz: Yeah. So so this poor place we ordered just a few minutes before it closed and they're like, Well, you know it's gonna be forty minutes. Sorry. But they did the whole stretch where they slice it and then they pull up the slice and there's just a a long wall of cheese. KENT: Ooze of cheese, yeah. British Liz: And actually I have a picture of that too, but I forgot to send it. And so it was just really nice. Got to You know, hang out with old friends, meet some new friends. and I did make one purchase at the con. KENT: Okay. Besides mister T and Kurt Russell. Okay, what else? you bought an item? British Liz: It was a thing that wouldn't s fit in my su I bought an item which would not fit in my suitcase so I had to ship it. KENT: my gosh, let me g is it a was it another sword? Did you get another Lord of the Rings sword? British Liz: Baby. Bem. KENT: my how many swords do you have now? British Liz: Well, three now. But one's like a genuine sword. The other two are props. KENT: You have three Lord of the Rings swords. British Liz: No, I have no two Lord of the Rings swords and one nineteenth century sword. KENT: Okay, gotcha. Wow. I guess we'll British Liz: But KENT: have to have a duel in the backyard when I come up and visit. Yeah. Yeah, okay. British Liz: yeah, yeah. But yes, I I bought a sting sword and it's heavy and wonderful. I bought it from the weta workshop guys that have been on kind of on tour with Yes I see. KENT: The wit lanyard that's waiting for you. They didn't give you one? Man, British Liz: Mmm, thank you. KENT: you bought a sword and they couldn't give you a lanyard. British Liz: So yeah, so I just love looking at all their lovely stuff. They they've been touring the fan expos with the Lord of the Rings cast that's been doing the rounds. 'Cause KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: it seems like all of the fan expos have had between six and ten cast members. And that's just wonderful. I've enjoyed seeing KENT: It's always British Liz: them and I I hope it doesn't end with With this year. I'd love to keep seeing KENT: Yeah, no. British Liz: them at cons because they're just lovely. I've enjoyed all of those actors. Just great. KENT: Yeah, yeah. Well and you know several of because of friendships you've acquired over the years and things like that. So that's always a good thing. yeah. I'm I'm glad that they're still doing that and getting out. I mean, Lord of the Rings is gonna be around for a long time, so British Liz: Yes. KENT: yeah, that's crazy. Wow. Well, that's awesome. British Liz: Well I I have yapped enough for two shows, so your cruise your cruise Tell me about the cruise KENT: no, one. No, no, actually I wa I was I was at anime. I was at anime, then I went on a cruise. But yeah, the anime was good you know, it a lot of voice actors. There was in British Liz: Now where was where was that? KENT: Orlando. British Liz: I was gonna say Orlando, I couldn't remember. KENT: An Anime Orlando, it was a GalaxyCon show. yeah, they had lots of different voice actors and actresses. The big the big draw was Digital Circus. Those guys had lines that would not stop. British Liz: Yes I have heard that they are very busy. Now is one of KENT: my goodness. British Liz: the characters like a set of dentures with eyes? KENT: I I could not tell you. I've never seen it. I just knew it started on YouTube. British Liz: No, I KENT: and then it went to Netflix and then it went on to they did a movie. So they've dec actually done it backwards or in reverse, 'cause they started in YouTube, went to Netflix, and then they have a movie and stuff like that. So a lot of people were there to get digital circus and yeah. I I I saw the top of their heads, but that's about all I saw. Did you find the character you were looking for? yeah. yeah yeah. British Liz: This was yeah, this guy. I've se I've seen that costume. KENT: Okay. I British Liz: Been seeing it for years and I didn't know what it was, but then this last weekend I saw four of them gathered taking pictures of themselves, which I thought was great. KENT: Yeah, yeah. It's crazy. British Liz: But yes, I've heard that their lines just kind of KENT: Wrap around. British Liz: wrap around and I didn't even hear of it until earlier this year. So KENT: Yep. Well, if our subscriber knows anything about Digital Circus or is a fan of them, please let us know because yeah, hey, maybe we'll get one of them to come on and and share their story. You know, that would be British Liz: Yeah. KENT: awesome. Or or even how their con experience is, because you know, they have an experience just like you. How was their first one? You know, now they've done several of them, what's their experience like and stuff? So yeah, yeah. But I don't really want to wrap into too much of what I did this week because, you know, living in Nashville, there has been a lot of stuff going on. And and by the time people hear this, it's it's gonna be a couple of weeks later. So wow, where do I even start? I mean, we were just talking British Liz: Well, yeah. KENT: and I got a text message, and all of a sudden one of the icons of Nashville has just passed away. Dolly Parton, which, you know, 80 years old, has done so much for not only her hometown of Pigeon Forge, but her library of books and the books that she gives away and it's just my gosh. And then of course, you know, the music she has written and produced and done. I mean She made millions just off of Whitney Houston singing I will always love you. And British Liz: Yeah. Yeah. KENT: just my gosh, growing up from rags to riches, just no I don't think anybody could copy Dolly Parton. she, you know, she's been out there, and then of course, there was another person that passed away, Hayden. British Liz: Yeah, Hayden Pentiere. KENT: Hayden Pantier and I I say that because she was on Nashville for six seasons, you know, and you know, that's a hometown show. They filmed it in Nashville and it was all about Nashville and country singers and stuff like that. So my goodness. She had British Liz: And I heard she actually had hit records from it. Is that right? KENT: she had hit records. a lot of people know her from Heroes. British Liz: Yeah, see that's where I know her from. She KENT: Yeah. British Liz: was the perfect cheerleader. Yeah. KENT: Yeah, she was. I mean, Greg Grunberg is a good friend. And you know, just when that hit that she was gone, that was hard on him as well. British Liz: I'm sure. KENT: you know, and it it's always hard on the cast because they worked with that person for so long and and knew that person intimately. So you know, yeah, a lot of stuff going on in Nashville right now. So we'll British Liz: Yeah, and it's so sad, so sad. KENT: It is sad it is. I mean, especially Dolly. you know, she has Dollywood. They just opened an it's British Liz: Well and you love going there. Yeah. KENT: so much fun. But she just opened up a new ride. Like, literally it just opened and I don't even know if she got to go on it. I don't know if it was health issues or what, but you know, that's I mean, you do so much stuff. I mean And again, as we get older, we think about this stuff, like, you know, what what am I doing today to impact others? Or, you know, just make sure I get stuff done so it's not left unfinished, you know. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: and I know you your and your family is going through that for with a loss of a family member right now and hence why you're traveling and stuff, so you know. My condolences to you and your family, my condolences British Liz: Thank you. KENT: to the Parton family, the Hayden Pinterest family, like you know, and again, I don't wanna say this, but they come in threes. So who British Liz: Often. KENT: yes, w in the celebrity realms, I don't know if our subscriber has heard this, but when there is a passing of somebody, there usually is within a month or two another two other people. And so, you know, in the celebrities it's always in groups of three. So mm, yeah. British Liz: I I did see a Facebook post that had photos of the many actors that we've lost this year and it says it says twenty twenty six, could you stop ruining our childhood please? 'Cause there's so many that have passed. Just KENT: Well true. And I mean, Liz, we're not getting any younger. and so the British Liz: Well, I am. KENT: people that we grew up watching are older than us and you know, they've been around a long time, which is fine. They were the models for us and they, you know, structured a lot of stuff or created the headway for a lot of other actors or singers and stuff like that. But you know, As we get older, more people pass away that we know. British Liz: I know. Well it doesn't mean we have to like it. KENT: Yeah. But I think the the the big one here I I know in Nashville they're gonna probably drop all the flags halfway just for Dolly Parton. British Liz: sure. KENT: I mean British Liz: I'm sure. I mean she was a national treasure. KENT: She w you know the one thing I remember she was on Jay Leno. And he was like, you know, you you you wear the wigs, you wear these tight, busty British Liz: Their wigs? KENT: Liz. Yes. She had she was famous for her wigs. She was British Liz: Sorry. Well, I thought it was unlikely, but okay, call me a total simpleton. Sorry. KENT: Yes, yes, yes. She wore wigs. that's why her hair was always perfect. But and then the h skinny bust the skinny waist and big bust and stuff. And to this day I still remember one of the things she said. She goes, If you can nip it, suck it, or tuck it, it's for me. Yeah, British Liz: Amazing. KENT: she was she w I mean She left her heart on her sleeve. she loved everybody and wanted to do so much. It's just crazy. So yeah, Dolly, we will miss you. I loved her music. I mean, British Liz: Yeah. definitely sad news. KENT: my gosh, that lady did everything from country music to rock music to Christian music and had number one hits and everything. It's like, my god, acting. nine to five. British Liz: acting. The acting, the humor, the KENT: my god. Have you seen nine to five? British Liz: I think I did when it came out which was a really long time ago. KENT: See, why are you making that face? Yeah. I've even just w watched it in the last two years. So Liz, come on. Nine to five. Lily Tomlin. Like, come on, that's just Jane Fonda. Jane British Liz: Okay, so add it to my list yes, Dab Dabney Coleman. I remember I remember it. KENT: Fonda. I mean, come on. Yes. You're killing me, Liz. You say you're a movie person, British Liz: I know I know killing killing me. KENT: but you you just watched Rocky. British Liz: Yeah, okay, so it's like fifty years behind the ball there, but you know KENT: Okay. British Liz: I watch I watched the new Spider Man. Hmm. Yeah yeah. So I'm t so up to date. KENT: For the f have you watched all of them or just that one? British Liz: No, I think I've watched all of them. KENT: So you saw the new Spider Man where British Liz: The new KENT: they where he had them wipe their memories and stuff like that? British Liz: Yes, post memory wipe. Yes. KENT: Post memory wipe. Okay. British Liz: So I'm trying to think it the one that has the Punisher in it. And then KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: that's funny because they were both were also in the Odyssey. So the two two guys in the two top grossing movies. KENT: I know. I I I need to go see that. I need well Tom Holland was in yeah, he was in both of and they were the top movies. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So British Liz: And z and John Benthalt. Yeah. KENT: so yeah, I actually am attempting to go to the movies tomorrow to watch the Odyssey 'cause I gotta watch it in theater. I I've been told. Go watch it in the theater. You can't watch it on a small screen. No. British Liz: Really, small screen is sixty five inch small? I don't know. Is it? KENT: Liz, you British Liz: I don't know. KENT: have to be careful what you say. My list the our subscriber is going, yeah. See, that's why they don't listen to me. British Liz: Folks don't listen to him. KENT: but no, it's just the the special effects were so good. I I I want I'm actually gonna go watch that on IMAX because there's some on the regular screen there's some stuff that's cut off and the British Liz: Probably I'd probably get seasick. Literally. No. No I didn't. KENT: So you saw it. You saw the Odyssey. Okay. You haven't seen it. Alright, well then I'll have to report back how good it is or or whatnot. So I heard a lot of the stuff was done regular versus special effects and digital and British Liz: Yes. KENT: stuff like that. So I I do know that in the Odyssey this when they come out of the ground, they actually buried the people in the sand. Yeah. British Liz: Really? KENT: Yeah, it was huge calculation too because if they put too much sand they could suffocate them if not enough it wouldn't look British Liz: Yeah, Bama. KENT: real like and stuff like that so or they couldn't get out so it was like all scientifically calculated how much sand to put over you know I think it was like six inches, nothing more, nothing less. And yeah, it was crazy. Yeah. British Liz: And what a little straw to breathe through or KENT: I I don't know. I'll have to watch that behind the scenes thing when it comes out. British Liz: Interesting. Well, I I KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But British Liz: do know Christopher Nolan is, you know, not crazy about special effects. I mean obviously you have to use them, but if you can make things real like d I think I saw that KENT: He definitely well the even the horse was real. The horse. Like you can British Liz: They built the horse? KENT: Yeah, they built the horse and it it's actually at one of the I think Universal movie theater in California at the Universal British Liz: Really? KENT: Studios. They have the horse out in front. So you can actually see it. Yeah, British Liz: Yeah. KENT: it's crazy. Because one of my friends was like, I want a bucket list, like go to the movie and actually see the horse and stuff like that. So I was like, okay, cool bucket list. British Liz: But know that like in Inception, there's a a scene where in one of the dreams there the they film a scene in a fight scene, I think it is, in a hallway of a hotel, and KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: they actually built the hallway and rotated it. So you had the whole people f falling up and down and sideways. And it was just very surreal, but not special effects, it was actually a practical effect. And I understand Christopher KENT: I love I I love that movie. British Liz: Nolan likes likes KENT: Yeah. British Liz: that sort of realism. KENT: That movie was awesome and it's so deep you you can't watch it just once because you're like, was that a British Liz: yeah. KENT: dream inside of a dream or was that the bigger dream that had dreams and s yeah, it it's it's British Liz: I it's dizzying. It's dizzying. KENT: it's like one of those it's like that picture where they're climbing the stairs, but it looks like they're climbing the stairs everywhere, even though it doesn't stop. British Liz: Yes, KENT: yeah. That's what it reminds me of. British Liz: there's there's a word. Esher? Eshler? Esher Something, yeah. KENT: Sure, you got it. Yeah, yeah, it's not my vocabulary today. So we before we wrap up, where where are you heading to this weekend or or do you have a weekend off or what's going on? British Liz: Actually, I am I am doing family stuff the next couple of weekends. My next con KENT: Okay, okay. British Liz: is in the middle of September. I'm KENT: Okay. British Liz: going to Cleveland for the gaming con there. And KENT: So by the time this one airs it'll be September. huh. British Liz: Yeah, probably. And where are you headed? KENT: I'm actually flying to San Jose. British Liz: Do you know the way to KENT: For British Liz: San Jose? KENT: well, it's through Dallas and up through San Jose. There you go. Yeah, so I'll be there. It's San British Liz: Okay. So what what show is there? Which show? KENT: Jose Galaxy Con. British Liz: a GalaxyCon again. Okay. KENT: Yeah. A lot of good people will be there. Sean Gunn's gonna be there. I know Scott Patterson will be there. I think Cheech and Chung are gonna be there. Brian Poison's gonna be there. so many names I can't list them all. I'd probably have to pull up the website, which again, you know, is what we always teach our subscriber British Liz: Yes. KENT: to do is go to the website, look who's gonna be there, make your list of who you want to see. Who you wanna get autographs with, who you wanna you know, get a selfie or a or do the professional photo because there's so many people that go to these shows. Sometimes you get there and then you're like, I didn't know that person was gonna be here and it's like, it's right on the website 'cause they let you know. British Liz: Or or on the other hand, I didn't know that person cancelled. KENT: Yeah, that's see that thank you for bringing that up because Dragon Con's coming up, you know, and we mentioned that show a lot. one of my friends was like, you you you talked about the same thing, and it was we they looked at our short reel and then had watched the episode, and I was like, No, no, but DragonCon has, you know, if you paying attention, there's been some cancellations. Which yeah, yeah. British Liz: has there? I mean I the reason I'm not paying attention is 'cause I'm not planning to go. So just KENT: Right, but a lot of British Liz: curious. KENT: people are on Discord and talking about the cancellations at Dragon Con because they were excited to see those people in the panels or get their autograph and stuff like that, and now they're not gonna be there. And I know they're not gonna be there because they're filming, you know. So that's why we always say go to the website, look at the website of the con that you're going to to Make sure that your guest is gonna be there. They might have had a last minute cancellation because again, they do these shows when they're not working. If they're working, they're not gonna be at the show or they might have to cancel because they got a new gig or something like that. So it happens all the time. I mean, when I was at San Diego Comic-Con, one of my friends, Isaac Singleton, who was on Pirates of the Caribbean, was like, guys, I've gotta leave. And we're like, What are you talking about? He goes, I just got a roll. And we're like, see ya. Because w for him, work is work. You gotta go at the drop of a hat to for work. You can't stick around, you can't do that. You gotta go where the work is because that's your livelihood. Just like, you know, everybody here works a job, whether it's doctor, nurse, stay at home mom, you know, mechanic. Whatever it is, they have jobs and when work is work, you gotta go. So same thing with these actors, you know. So yeah, that's why we say look at the website. You know, one to know who's gonna be there so you can make a list of your talent and who you want to see. two, so you know the pricing of the autographs, because the websites will tell you ahead of time so you can bring the right amount of cash with you. my goodness, that's so many people. British Liz: Well one one of the one of the things related to to looking things up on the website is in many cases you can pre purchase an autograph or a photo op. KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: And and that's fairly straightforward, you know, whatever KENT: Yeah. British Liz: the f the cost is plus fees, which in some cases can be quite a lot, but and that's yeah. KENT: Yeah. But you don't want to miss that opportunity because sometimes those photos do sell out. British Liz: But on the other hand, if there is no opportunity to pre-purchase an autograph, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: all that means is it's for sale at the table. So I've had people come up and say, we tried to purchase online but we couldn't do it. It's like, well that's because you do it here. Right here is where you buy the autograph. KENT: Yeah. Yeah. That usually means that that they're they'll do selfies at the table. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: Yeah. British Liz: So just if that's a a a snag you've run into, you're not able to buy online, it just means that you buy it in person. KENT: Yes, yes. Any other tip that we we should leave the listener before we go, Liz? British Liz: I don't think so. I think we covered actually we mostly covered what we wanted to talk about and didn't talk about cons much at all. Well, I suppose I did. Yeah. But we we KENT: that's just part of the podcast, I guess. Yeah. British Liz: we got some cons stuff in at the end, so that's good. Check the website KENT: my gosh, yes. British Liz: and if you can't buy it online, you just buy it in person. KENT: Yeah, and again, you know, each episode's gonna be different. what you see is what you get. We don't really do a lot of editing on these. so clearly British Liz: Clearly. KENT: and you know, each one's gonna be different. Like we do have an episode coming up with some talent and different people that have been at the shows and stuff, so it's not just always Liz and me talking about our con experience. It's always having somebody different and new and we've literally got a list of people that are already asking us to be on the show, which is exciting. You know, and British Liz: Yes, it's we're just getting getting ourselves organized, getting everybody scheduled, and we've got so many guests. So many guests that KENT: Whew summon again. British Liz: want to to share their con experiences and their advice. So very exciting. KENT: I I will be excited. I'll be excited when we actually have to turn people away. You know? Like so many people want to do the show, but we don't we can't get them on the list because we've already got one a week already filled up. Or we're like, no, this week it's just gonna be Liz and I talking. No guests. So yeah. Awesome. Well, Liz, I appreciate your time. I know I appreciate the listeners' time. and thank British Liz: Yes. Thank you guys for listening. KENT: you for the and and you know what? To the subscriber out there, thank you for the five star review. That is awesome. We love that. We love I British Liz: Okay. KENT: love clicking on and seeing that you watched us on YouTube or you watched us or listened to us on Spotify or Amazon or iHeartRadio or Apple. you know. We're just putting content out to help you have a great experience and enjoy the cons. And again, we would love to hear from you. What would you like to hear? What tips or tricks do you have that you could share with us that we might have forgotten that we could share with another subscriber? Like we only got one subscriber. KENT: hope to see you at a con. speaking of which, do you did you get your badges yet? Have you made your ribbons? British Liz: I did, I did. They are they are back at my house. So KENT: Okay. All right. So maybe next time you'll we'll get to see what the ribbons look like. British Liz: Yes, I will I will and I will show you how to attach them to a badge. Very very straightforward. KENT: there's a technique for attaching a ribbon to the badge. Okay. Okay. Alright. British Liz: Yeah, I mean it's really not hard, but yes, there is. Gotta have it facing in the right direction. That's the first the first most important thing. KENT: Yeah. there you go. Well, this is Conversations with Coffee. I'm your host Kent and this is my co host. British Liz: British Les. And you can find KENT: And we are British Liz: us on the socials at at comms with coffee. And KENT: Yeah, we shortened it. You can't do conversations with coffee, it's too long. British Liz: It's yeah. And if you're watching on YouTube you can also listen on Spotify, iHeartRadio, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: what are the others, Kent? I don't remember. KENT: TikTok and Instagram and Facebook and all those other things. Yeah, it's social. British Liz: Yeah, we're everywhere. You cannot escape us. KENT: I wish I could escape Liz. Alright.
