- 0:41Speaker 2: Do you have multiple wives in Nigeria? You're looking for
- 0:43Speaker 2: a girlfriend in the United States.
- 0:44Speaker 3: My friend, I've been searching in Nigeria.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It's not working.
- 0:49Speaker 2: But I'm just saying there's probably too much going on
- 0:53Speaker 2: not to answer, not to go straight into the foolery.
- 0:56Speaker 2: But do you have in your country? Do you have
- 1:00Speaker 2: multiple wives?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Is that something that.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I don't That's something I don't even encourage. I'm okay,
- 1:05Speaker 3: I'm not I'm mind to that you just one woman,
- 1:09Speaker 3: not really one woman, but like marrying multiple wives? I don't.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I don't believe in that stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I mean, you can't do your thing as much as
- 1:19Speaker 3: you But like marrying multiple wives doesn't make sense to me.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm single. I came to the US to
- 1:25Speaker 3: find myself a girlfriend.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:27Speaker 3: So yeah, so what are we talking about today?
- 1:30Speaker 1: So? Okay, your girlfriend? Does she have to have a job?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Definitely?
- 1:35Speaker 1: Okay?
- 1:35Speaker 4: What if?
- 1:36Speaker 2: What if she's checks all the other boxes and they
- 1:39Speaker 2: don't have a job, doesn't have a job. Maybe she's
- 1:41Speaker 2: in school or maybe she.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I can manage. I can manage, Okay, I can manage.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And what's your type?
- 1:48Speaker 4: Type?
- 1:49Speaker 3: That wout put me in trouble. I can't say that.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Do you have a preference?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Ah?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I just like pretty women. You know.
- 1:59Speaker 2: That's good answer, that's answer yoh man.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I just have to keep it simple.
- 2:03Speaker 1: All right. Let's start to.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Show, let's start to shut down. Shout out to Warner Records, man,
- 2:08Speaker 2: because they sent me an immaculate press.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Kid on you man.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Two point eight billion global streams, four hundred and eighty
- 2:15Speaker 2: two million USA streams, twelve million Spotify monthly listeners. Singer
- 2:21Speaker 2: and songwriter, God damn, bro, You're popping for real, for real.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I just want to, like I said a camera, I
- 2:27Speaker 2: just want to mention on the ground.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Bro, Yeah I'm popping, I'm messing on.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I just want you to mention me on your Instagram.
- 2:35Speaker 5: I got you right, But how does it How does
- 2:38Speaker 5: that make you feel to know that you have a
- 2:40Speaker 5: mass all this international success.
- 2:46Speaker 3: It's a blessing. It's a blessing. It's just it's just
- 2:50Speaker 3: what I feel like to me, it's like, it's work.
- 2:56Speaker 3: This just have work to do because you have a
- 2:58Speaker 3: lot of people looking up to you. You have a
- 3:00Speaker 3: little fun too, who want more of you. You know,
- 3:07Speaker 3: your artistry just needs to as you grow, the funds grow,
- 3:12Speaker 3: so you just need to be there to lead, to
- 3:14Speaker 3: show them what's right and what's wrong. So it's a blessing.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I love being who I am. But at the same time,
- 3:22Speaker 3: it's also there's a lot of responsibility to that. You know.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I was gonna say, to add to what you said,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I feel like afrobeats had this big explosion in the US.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I feel like it's settling now and it's becoming a
- 3:37Speaker 2: real genre where people can have a lane in the US,
- 3:42Speaker 2: such as artists like you that you guys can come
- 3:45Speaker 2: over here because correct me if I was wrong. It
- 3:48Speaker 2: was a little bit more dancehall Caribbean music that was
- 3:53Speaker 2: big in the United States first, and then afrobeats kind
- 3:56Speaker 2: of came second, and it was this big wave burna
- 3:59Speaker 2: boys and everything. Now I'm hearing your name and other
- 4:03Speaker 2: artists of your stature, the vedo.
- 4:06Speaker 1: David Dough is a.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Big, big, big But listen, you're big too.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I did my homework.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's a lot of us in Nigeria.
- 4:16Speaker 3: It's a lot of us in Nigeria who are big.
- 4:18Speaker 3: But somehow I feel like the US always comes last
- 4:21Speaker 3: before they discover.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Why do you think that? I don't know, why do
- 4:25Speaker 2: you why do you believe?
- 4:25Speaker 3: You feel like the US just are so into what
- 4:29Speaker 3: they already.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Know, like like rap music and stuff like that, Like they.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Already just that so into that. So it's like before
- 4:36Speaker 3: they begin to recognize another artists, it just takes a
- 4:40Speaker 3: bit more time. You just you have to, you know.
- 4:43Speaker 3: So there's a lot of big artists from Nigeria. I
- 4:46Speaker 3: can mention one hundred if we're still but yeah, yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 3: but David Dough is he's a legend. He's a big, big, big.
- 4:54Speaker 5: So making music in Nigeria. Do you guys do the
- 5:00Speaker 5: the other artists? Are you guys like all friends, y'all
- 5:02Speaker 5: all hang out?
- 5:04Speaker 3: No?
- 5:05Speaker 2: No, oh, go ahead, I allow you to.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yeah, because it's as much as yeah, as much as
- 5:17Speaker 3: there's love, yeah, there's still like a lot of competition,
- 5:21Speaker 3: and I feel like that's what keeps that's what makes
- 5:23Speaker 3: an industry strive. You know, when it's too much love
- 5:25Speaker 3: and everybody's just eating one from one place, it's like,
- 5:28Speaker 3: you know, everybody's relaxed, but there's a lot of competition
- 5:32Speaker 3: and that's what keeps us up. That's what like you know.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So yeah, so it's not like it's not like fighting
- 5:39Speaker 3: like gone and killing.
- 5:40Speaker 1: It's just like I want to I want to make
- 5:42Speaker 1: better music.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I just want to make better music. I want to
- 5:44Speaker 3: be the best and stuff like that. It's just like
- 5:46Speaker 3: very healthy competition.
- 5:47Speaker 5: So that's why we don't see a lot of collaborations
- 5:49Speaker 5: with not jeering artists.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I think that there are a lot of collaborations, but
- 5:53Speaker 3: not just as much as my piano, you know, like
- 5:56Speaker 3: the South Africa there's a lot of collaboration with South
- 5:59Speaker 3: Africa music. That's also a lot with Nigeria, but the
- 6:03Speaker 3: South African one is just like you know, every single
- 6:06Speaker 3: record that's collaboration. Nigerian's like we just like to do
- 6:09Speaker 3: our thing, you know. It's like to that's a bit
- 6:12Speaker 3: of collaboration, but not as much.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Question. So growing up for you, your your parents because
- 6:20Speaker 2: I know I'm Caribbean, so like sometimes my parents is like,
- 6:24Speaker 2: hey man, you gotta be a doctor, you gotta be
- 6:26Speaker 2: a lawyer. I was like, I'm gonna be on the radio,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and it was like my mom was like, yo, nah,
- 6:30Speaker 2: we're not doing that. I don't never heard. I ain't
- 6:32Speaker 2: never seen nobody make a whole bunch of money on
- 6:34Speaker 2: the radio. This is younger for me. Is that almost
- 6:37Speaker 2: the same for your parents or because I kind of
- 6:40Speaker 2: hear I heard tem story. Her parents was like yo,
- 6:42Speaker 2: nah nah, we need you do something else. I don't
- 6:45Speaker 2: know about this music stuff.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Me for me, I mean that's very famous. As
- 6:49Speaker 3: if every famous stand in Nigeria, every parents wouldn't want
- 6:52Speaker 3: to see their kids become become an artist. Really, radial
- 6:57Speaker 3: radio is a big deal, was a big deal in
- 6:59Speaker 3: niger I don't know about it now, yeah really, yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 3: I think radio was something that every parents would want
- 7:05Speaker 3: to see their kids. I don't know, Robert, but for
- 7:07Speaker 3: you for music, for me, for music. My mom had
- 7:10Speaker 3: always been she'd always got my back, She'd always like, YO,
- 7:13Speaker 3: go for it. But I know a lot of my
- 7:15Speaker 3: friends because I started as a producer. I used to
- 7:18Speaker 3: produce for a bunch of artists in my streets. I
- 7:21Speaker 3: know a lot of them that sneak to the studio
- 7:23Speaker 3: to make music with me because their parents wouldn't allow
- 7:26Speaker 3: them to do that. They want they have to be
- 7:29Speaker 3: doctors or something. Yeah, but the more people like me emerge,
- 7:33Speaker 3: the more people just like begin to understand that this
- 7:37Speaker 3: is actually something that is possible, doesn't necessarily That's why
- 7:41Speaker 3: I feel like I also have a lot of responsibility
- 7:43Speaker 3: to teach the younger generation how to. You know, there's
- 7:48Speaker 3: a lot of misunderstanding with what the music chance should
- 7:53Speaker 3: be and what music Chians have been in the past.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You know, there's always just that thing of music chance.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I just like, do draw kill each other. Of course
- 8:02Speaker 3: I'm still there in America and stuff. But like, that's
- 8:05Speaker 3: why I feel like I have a lot of responsibility
- 8:07Speaker 3: to teach the younger generation how to this can actually
- 8:10Speaker 3: just be It could be something.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That could actually be a career.
- 8:14Speaker 3: It could be a career, it could be a very
- 8:16Speaker 3: good life. You know, you can make something really good
- 8:19Speaker 3: out of it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So yeah, so how did you know when your music
- 8:23Speaker 1: start to travel?
- 8:27Speaker 3: My music started traveling from two two thousand. So I
- 8:30Speaker 3: used to be a producer, because everybody already are familiar
- 8:33Speaker 3: with that story. I started. I put out my first
- 8:38Speaker 3: my first song, do Not Distop. But I didn't need
- 8:40Speaker 3: tell none of my friends that I was my record
- 8:43Speaker 3: because they only knew me as a producer. So for
- 8:45Speaker 3: the first time I made a record, I put it
- 8:47Speaker 3: out and everybody was just accepting it so much. They
- 8:50Speaker 3: loved it so much, and especially because they didn't know
- 8:53Speaker 3: it was me.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And so why did you do that? Was somebody making
- 8:57Speaker 2: you frustrated to deal with and you was like, know what,
- 9:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna just do this ship myself.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yeah, because yeah, they were. It was frustrating because I, like,
- 9:05Speaker 3: the ideas are just stuck up in my head, you know, so.
- 9:08Speaker 2: You put the ideas out.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, the ideas are just stuck in my head
- 9:11Speaker 3: and giving me sleepless nights. And I tried to make
- 9:14Speaker 3: artists do that, but it's not them you know, that
- 9:17Speaker 3: is me. That's my personality. I'm trying to impose on
- 9:20Speaker 3: other artists. So I used to write for them and stuff.
- 9:23Speaker 3: So like it got to the point where I'm like, okay, yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 3: I have to just do this myself.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Well you realize, like y'all suck, let me let me,
- 9:30Speaker 5: let me go do what y'all should be doing.
- 9:32Speaker 2: We know, way listen.
- 9:36Speaker 5: You said y'all suck, let me go do what y'all
- 9:39Speaker 5: should be doing. Was listening to me and then you
- 9:41Speaker 5: go and blow up.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean as soon as I as soon as
- 9:44Speaker 3: I put out my first song, do all this stuff,
- 9:47Speaker 3: and I made everybody understand. And that was me thinking
- 9:51Speaker 3: I instead of getting some some hate you know, from
- 9:54Speaker 3: my from my friends and myself.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Damn.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a bit of hate because they all
- 9:59Speaker 3: love the record, and when.
- 10:01Speaker 2: They didn't know, they was like, why you didn't give
- 10:03Speaker 2: it to me?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Why didn't your stuff like that? Then, but more people
- 10:06Speaker 3: was listening to my city radios was taking it up
- 10:09Speaker 3: and stuff like that. And then I did the second song,
- 10:12Speaker 3: Hello Brother, and I started getting label invites, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: deals and stuff like that. I just I just knew
- 10:18Speaker 3: that you know, this is my pat This is definitely
- 10:21Speaker 3: my question.
- 10:22Speaker 2: So as you're growing up and as you're getting into
- 10:24Speaker 2: the music, what artists from America that you kind of
- 10:30Speaker 2: really liked because I, you know.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I loved Drake. I have always Drake. Okay, Drake from
- 10:35Speaker 3: Canada though, yeah, and he's from Canada, but of course
- 10:38Speaker 3: Drake is.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Don't do that. Yeah, we loved Drake.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I've always loved Drake. I've always loved Kendrick.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I just kind of hate to see the two of
- 10:52Speaker 3: them go to war, like, yeah, I've always loved I
- 10:55Speaker 3: think I think.
- 10:56Speaker 5: That was good for hip hop. Yeah, that was its
- 10:58Speaker 5: lo as. No, it was no blood ship.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:01Speaker 3: That was a moment that was I would say friendly,
- 11:04Speaker 3: but that was not friendly, didn't it didn't look that.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm glad nobody got hurt.
- 11:10Speaker 2: So, so you was growing up with listening to Drake.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I listened to Kendrick a lot. I listened to Tupac
- 11:19Speaker 3: so much legal So it's just like that that line.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Of Man Tupac music was traveling.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah, bro, people, we listened to Tupac a lot in
- 11:30Speaker 3: Africa off till today. We're still wow in Nigeria. It's like, yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 3: it's a little people going to.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Now, I do have a question for you music. Educate
- 11:41Speaker 2: me on this question. Now, being from Nigeria, are there
- 11:45Speaker 2: parts in Africa that you are not allowed to go
- 11:47Speaker 2: to to perform, like to to a point where it's
- 11:51Speaker 2: like a problem or no.
- 11:53Speaker 1: No, he said, go anywhere.
- 11:56Speaker 3: No, I can't go anywhere I expect, But but I
- 12:02Speaker 3: can go anywhere.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Okay, let me let me spend it. There is there
- 12:07Speaker 5: some artists that can't go anywhere in Africa, I.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Believe, so outside of Nigeria. What's your favorite country to
- 12:15Speaker 2: visit in Africa?
- 12:17Speaker 3: In Africa?
- 12:17Speaker 4: Kenya, Kenya, Ghana, Ghana, Rwanda, Rwanda. Yeah, South Africa, it's
- 12:26Speaker 4: a lot. It's a lot of beautiful place places. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 4: but Kenya Kenya has a vibe, such a big vibe,
- 12:35Speaker 4: the coast, Mumbaisa, the islands and stuff like that.
- 12:40Speaker 3: South Africa too, you should visit definitely.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Now, when you come to the States, is there a
- 12:44Speaker 2: specific you know, state or city that you be like,
- 12:47Speaker 2: I gotta come there when I come to America.
- 12:52Speaker 5: L A l A Atlanta.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I love l A.
- 12:58Speaker 3: But of course I love Atlanta too because of the community.
- 13:02Speaker 3: It's very big.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You got a big afro big I'm a piano crowd
- 13:06Speaker 2: here too.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Very big. And then when you have this kind of community,
- 13:09Speaker 3: it's easy to find stuff like food, like and it's
- 13:12Speaker 3: just there for you if you're like home. So yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 3: Atlanta La busting d C. Yeah, it's a bunch of them.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I like.
- 13:22Speaker 2: All right, So now before we get up out of here,
- 13:24Speaker 2: let let's talk about you trying to find this lady. Man. Now,
- 13:26Speaker 2: are you serious, really trying to find Yeah?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I've been looking for one. You want an
- 13:31Speaker 3: American woman, not necessarily American.
- 13:34Speaker 1: She got to be American. How tall does she got
- 13:36Speaker 1: to be?
- 13:37Speaker 3: She doesn't have to be an American woman.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You're single and you're looking for a woman to be
- 13:43Speaker 2: your lady.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking.
- 13:45Speaker 1: For brown, brown eyes, blue eyes, green.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I don't I don't really, I don't really. You don't
- 13:49Speaker 3: discriminate on discriminate. I don't mind. As long as your
- 13:53Speaker 3: your human being, you're pretty.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Does she have to know your music?
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yes, she has to know my miss y'all know what
- 13:58Speaker 3: I'm into, Okay, feeling you have to So if you
- 14:02Speaker 3: don't know my music and you want to d M me.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So you're you're checking d ms and you're reading dm.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Once in a while.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Okay, you might have to look a little bit more
- 14:10Speaker 5: often after this come out.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Get clipped up. Oh my god, before we go though,
- 14:19Speaker 2: explain your name is that your real name?
- 14:22Speaker 3: My name is my Lee, that's my real name. My
- 14:24Speaker 3: name is my real name is Stanley or my d
- 14:25Speaker 3: d all. My is my middle names, my family name
- 14:29Speaker 3: basically Nigeria when you everybody takes on from your dad
- 14:34Speaker 3: to like, my dad's name is Alma, so my name
- 14:36Speaker 3: is Stanley. Oh my my kid's name is going to be.
- 14:39Speaker 1: With the lay.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah, ladies, like late is an expression of urgency in
- 14:45Speaker 3: my dialect. So I'm like Ferrari, right, and maybe you
- 14:52Speaker 3: yeah that sounds.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Artist l you know what, Yeah yeah, yeah, it sounds.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Like sounds cool right, yeah. Yeah. It's a tribal thing
- 15:04Speaker 3: where it's like when somebody is beyond the reach and
- 15:07Speaker 3: they just need to hear your voice to understand that
- 15:10Speaker 3: you're calling them. You're like Feerrari Ley, you scream the
- 15:13Speaker 3: leg They just once they hear the voice, they know
- 15:15Speaker 3: that you're calling them. So I just kind of, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 3: took it as part of my identity.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Fine, yeah, so new single out right now?
- 15:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Moving is out now, Clarity of Mind is on
- 15:27Speaker 3: the way.
- 15:27Speaker 1: The album okay, and when can we spend the album?
- 15:30Speaker 2: When's the date on that?
- 15:33Speaker 3: Honestly, I don't have a date on the album right now,
- 15:36Speaker 3: but it's definitely coming.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You just gonna tell the label. I'll tell you'all already.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I like that you always.
- 15:45Speaker 3: I like that you always bring things out. You just
- 15:47Speaker 3: say it for me, like you know.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Because I know listen, I got superpowers up here. I
- 15:52Speaker 1: just be knowing what people want to say.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Don't laugh. But what's your manager's name again? Abika tell Aka?
- 15:57Speaker 2: We're gonna send them twenty five dollars invoy. He messed
- 16:01Speaker 2: up our little roll over here. He got that permanent
- 16:03Speaker 2: crease over there. We're gonna need a new now. But
