- 0:16Welcome to the Pixie Garden Air Broadcast.
- 0:18I'm Jess here with License and Hasuitologist, Delina.
- 0:22Delina's slipped back here, looks amazing, but every time I try it at home, my hair starts lifting by new.
- 0:27What am I actually doing wrong?
- 0:29Probably the same two things most of my clients were doing before they sat in my chair.
- 0:32Starting on dry hair and reaching for gel, both are the problem.
- 0:36Slick back hair that last all day starts on damp hair.
- 0:39Not dripping wet, not fully dry, about 70% dry,
- 0:44and the product matters more than any technique trick.
- 0:47I reach for the hair finishing stick for exactly this.
- 0:50One application route to end, a fine tooth comb through each section,
- 0:54and you're setting the style as the hair dries into position.
- 0:57Why damp?
- 0:58What does hair being damp actually do?
- 1:00When hair is damp, the cuticle is slightly open.
- 1:02Product integrates into the strand instead of just sitting on top of it.
- 1:06You use less, you get more even distribution,
- 1:09and the hold stays because the formula is working inside the strand structure.
- 1:13Dry hair application is fine for quick touch-ups, but for all day hold,
- 1:17start damp every time.
- 1:18You said gel is the problem.
- 1:20Can you break that down?
- 1:21Because gel is what everyone defaults to for slick styles.
- 1:25Traditional alcohol set gel creates a hard shell as it dries.
- 1:28That shell holds for maybe four to six hours and then it goes brittle.
- 1:32When you move the coating cracks, by noon you've got flaking along your hairline and part.
- 1:36That's the mid-day breakdown people just accept as normal.
- 1:39It's not normal, it's the gel.
- 1:41Hair spray is worse, it sits completely on top of the hair,
- 1:43and any humidity dissolves it within a couple hours.
- 1:46What you want is an alcohol-free formula with flexible polymer hold.
- 1:51It moves with your hair instead of fighting it,
- 1:53so it stays intact all day without the breakdown cycle.
- 1:56The hair finishing stick is alcohol-free.
- 1:59What's in it that makes it work differently from everything else?
- 2:02It comes down to a few things working together.
- 2:05The hold comes from flexible polymers,
- 2:07VP/VA and accolades co-pollimers.
- 2:10That form a film that bends with your hair instead of going brittle the way a synthetic alcohol gel does.
- 2:15That's why it doesn't flake.
- 2:19Glitterin is a humectant,
- 2:21so it helps your hair hold moisture and keeps the style smooth instead of dry and brittle through the day.
- 2:26Panthenol, ProVitamin B5,
- 2:29conditions the strand and keeps some flexibility.
- 2:32So when hair is held tight all day it doesn't snap or look stiff,
- 2:35and the whole thing is water-based, not oil-based,
- 2:38so it seals down fly-aways for that smooth reflective finish without looking greasy.
- 2:42The most important part is that it's completely alcohol-free.
- 2:45Most slick products use drying alcohols for a fast set,
- 2:49but those alcohols pull moisture out of your hair as they evaporate through the day.
- 2:54By the time the hold breaks down your hair is drier than when you started.
- 2:58This one holds without that tradeoff.
- 2:59What about edges and baby hairs?
- 3:01That's always where my slick look falls apart first.
- 3:04Edges are detail work.
- 3:05Use the wand tip directly on baby hairs and lay them in one-inch sections,
- 3:08not the entire hairline at once.
- 3:10First pass lays the hair down, second pass adds hold, third pass polishes,
- 3:15then set those fine hairs with a metal tooth comb,
- 3:18the tension from fine metal teeth is what keeps them flat.
- 3:21The temple area and nape move the most throughout the day,
- 3:24so give those sections an extra pass before you call it done.
- 3:27Quick tip for midday if things start lifting?
- 3:30Don't add water.
- 3:31Water reactivates what you already put in and dilutes it.
- 3:34Apply a thin layer of the same stick only to the sections showing fly-aways,
- 3:38then smooth with your hands, not a comb.
- 3:40An alcohol-free polymer formula doesn't build up or flake on reapplication the way traditional gel does.
- 3:45That's one of the reasons I chose this stick,
- 3:48so you can maintain the style throughout the day without starting over.
- 3:51All day hold without a midday meltdown.
- 3:53I love that.
