- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, welcome to M&KB NFL podcast.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Conoror, that's Albert Brear, and Albert.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still a classic old school guy.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: I like to check the newspapers in the morning, especially here in the New York area where we're blessed with still kind of a bustling scene of Dailies, and the back page of the New York Post is just legendary today.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: It is Lawrence Taylor says to Abdual Carter wake up kid.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of my favorite things ever, because I mean, it's written by Steve Serbia's legend and but the the audacity of Lawrence Taylor
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: who probably never showed up to a meeting, not ripped on cocaine.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_03]: If he showed up to a meeting, they'll be, yeah, I think he told some story.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he was on pardon my take.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure exactly where it was, but he told some story really recently about how he didn't know that he'd messed up the data the game and figured out that they were playing because he drove by the metal lands and the whites were on.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: So I think he thought the game was on Monday night and it was actually on Sunday night and he's driving down like the Jersey term like and he's like, oh crap, the lights are on the stadium and he likes shows something it's like this I don't know if that could be true because the enactive rules may have been different back then but like
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I guess back then, there wouldn't be a way to get a hold of your player if he wasn't home, right?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: He's just no cell phone.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: But like, okay, Abdul Carter, for those of you don't know.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was benched for for a second time three weeks.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: For the second time in three weeks, but we're talking about being, I don't know, five minutes late to a meeting versus either just not coming or being high enough to not be able to function and then just being so good that all of your coaches will never have ever heard the Bellachek Bellachek Parcel story on LT.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure I have, but you probably heard this one, but those haven't heard it.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_03]: So, LT was like, like, really late for a meeting.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_03]: And, and so, like Bellachack was like kind of fed up, because he dealt with like a lot of this stuff with LT. And so he went to Parselle, as he finally got the courage up to go to Parselle's.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_03]: And goes to Parselle's and says, look Bill,
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like, well, I don't know how much longer we can deal with this.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, L.T.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: was was, you know, Lawrence was late to the meeting again today.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_03]: And Parcel stopped him and said, well, why did you start the meeting without him?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: So that is, you know, the repackaging of him as a consummate professional is hilarious to me.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, L.T.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: was the ultimate.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: You just make any excuse to just try to get this guy on the field.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Sunday, and if you do, it's a minor miracle.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: Any movie that you've seen about like the Wall Street
- 3:34[SPEAKER_03]: L.T.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: was in the thick of that, like the character that he played in any given Sunday was probably just himself.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I mean, there wasn't a lot of I didn't even like saw and I mean, he He's a huge smart ass to be.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just like, okay.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's like when you talk about doing research for a role.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's sometimes like what can I remember about 10 years ago?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and that's about it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_03]: I would 100% watch.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_03]: a 30 for 30 that was dead honest out like what the real L.T.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: was like that would be awesome.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: You can make a movie on it for sure.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just the entirety of and and this goes from on one end, you know, and I love Troy acheman, but.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, on the lighter end, Troy, I've been dissecting modern quarterback play when he's in the Hall of Fame, and he has worse stats than Ryan Fitzpatrick to the more extreme end of the spectrum, where you have LT being like, yeah, wake up, rookie, and it's just like,
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: What were you doing back that like nobody nobody paid attention to the personal lives of NFL players?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: There was no fantasy football.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: You weren't under this granular microscope.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean perform like it's crazy Honestly like I even think like back to like when I was in school
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: And the stuff, we just, like, the stuff we got away with his normal kids, right?
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, yeah, like, you wouldn't, like, there wouldn't happen now.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: And then I think about, like, the stuff, like, I saw some of the athletes get away with that, like, I mean, it's just a different era now.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: And like, I mean, even so much as like, like, I saw somebody in,
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Mike Garafolo set me straight on this, but there was a picture going around of Abdual Carter in a meeting from the hard knocks debut, and he was like this.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: like that, like, right?
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and it looked like, and it just said Abdual Carter locked in, right?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: And so I sent it to a text group, I'm on a mics on the text group.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: And Mike was actually, I think when I sent the tweet, which was like, I just a screen grab a him like this, like I Mike Mike happened to be watching the hard knocks episode.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: And like, so like then he started looking for it.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: He was like, and he gave us
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: He had kind of like, like Abdul is just kind of like this like rocking back and then forth and it was nothing you know anything like but it's like sort of like indicative of the microscope that these guys are under now That's not to excuse Abdul Carter's actions because we can get into that like that it it's
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's not good.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like he was fine by Brian Dayball and multiple occasions before Dayball got fired.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: Calf because obviously taking it to the next level the last few weeks.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: And this isn't like isolated.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: This is part of what the reputation was coming out of Penn State that he was entitled that he carried himself like a superstar.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: So this is like a wildly talented player.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and everybody who has been around him with the giants would tell you that now is that like going back to a spring, it was like holy crap.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: Like, the talent is off the charts.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: But...
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: like there's obviously some growing up that needs to do here.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just not sure that the mentor that he's being paired with here would be who I would choose.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like, I mean, do a lesser extent.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: And while not really, I mean, not really to a lesser extent at all.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like the
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it was the undercurrent of that first CBS broadcast of the Browns Raiders game where there was a solid three minutes of dead air filled with like, you know, shitter sanders is really under the wing of Deshawn Watson and then you know, you're just sitting at home on your couch like, oh,
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I don't like any of this, like this is just like, why are we listening to this?
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I mean, LT is different.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's a different time, but yeah, I'm sure the giant start, like, yeah, what do LT, why are you coming to the building and show Abdul Carter how you approached me?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's just no, it's ridiculous, but last thought on this, and then, because we got a big episode out right here, this is a massive week.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is like the week of consequence in the NFL.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, jice did this a couple times in a row, man.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they did it with Malik neighbors.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: where there were receivers with a much better temperament in that draft, but they wanted an alphadog and they couldn't, they had no crack at Harrison, but the adunze was right behind him, they had adunze in the building, they liked him, but they wanted that alphadog mentality and same with Abdul Qarder.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: you could have gone in some different directions, but you wanted that.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: And now, when you're Joe Shane, who's come into the microscope a little bit, I think, over the last few weeks, and he's really, he did his press conferences, feet are been held to the fire.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you got to figure out how to hire a coach who knows how to bundle all this together, right?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: And, and, or else you're going to end up like the Dave Gettlmaner and just trading half of these guys.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we got a big week in the NFL, so this is massive, right?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Not only do we have Cowboys Lions tonight, so we're taping this at 9 o'clock in the morning on Thursday, but I believe there are four games that directly impact three or four games that directly impact
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: first place in the division or some sort of playoff scenarios.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: You have Eagles Chargers on Monday night, Texans chiefs on Sunday night, and then you have Bears Packers on Sunday afternoon in the standalone game.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: You have Steelers Ravens in the one o'clock window.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: You've called Jaguars in the one o'clock window.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is huge.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Bengals, jett, Bengals, bills in the one o'clock window.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: like we are uh we're just soaked this week.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean this is just like uh this is one of the best weeks of the NFL I mean now I wouldn't have expected cold jacks to be up on that list but it certainly is like almost it's weird because the the jacks I think we talked about this on Monday like the jacks have sort of
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: kind of steadily just kept chugging and it's not like they've done anything that's been like outwardly impressive like the the one time I think they were like captured national attention was that Monday night when early in the year against the chiefs but
- 10:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they've just kind of kept turning out wins and they've got a favorable schedule.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_03]: No question about it, but here they are.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: And this is an opportunity for them doing now with themselves.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_03]: Steel's Ravens is like my favorite rivalry.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: And it's not like quite what it was, but I used to be like, that those games were played in a very dark place.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: When I first became a national reporter in O.E.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_03]: I was at the game where Ray Lewis basically
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the hardest hits I've ever seen in person, and that rivalry has always been that way.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe a little less so than it used to be.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_03]: And then Bear's Packers is the one to me.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like I cannot wait to sit back and just watch that one.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you got the two other games in that four o'clock window.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_03]: That should be blowouts right like the Broncos and the Raiders and then the the Rams and the chart and the Cardinal.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: So you have the two first place teams that take care of business and it's going to give the nation an opportunity to really drill down and take a look at you know Ben Johnson Chicago Bears and.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know, there is some personal animus.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_03]: I would say there Between the coaches that goes back to January, right?
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like and I think we'll floor man in waiting for this one a little bit So it'll be interesting to see the way that that plays out too.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I love and let's start there because that that these are the games These are the games that I want to talk about.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean no fence to
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Broncos Raiders like I feel pretty good about Denver and this one you know fence ram's cardinals like I feel pretty good about that you have although they lost to the Panthers last week the Panthers are better but no fence to Saints bucks you know no fence to Dolphins Jets Titans Browns but you are a you're like the side stage at Lala Paluso okay this this is a big this is for big boys only this weekend and let's start there
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's a lot we could talk about on the technical side of this and we will, but from the socio-emotional, Ben Johnson, I think has been really, really good at
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: writing with the temperament of the team of finding something that clicks, you know, building that that culture.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that was kind of the weak point that a lot of people thought, right?
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was painted as a little bit more of solely a play caller.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: I will caution people that culture's always good when you're winning and you're picking up like more than half the fumbles and you know, you're all these things, right?
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's a lot of stuff that just
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and so we don't know what Ben Johnson is going to be when you know what hits the fan, but I saw this guy with a shirt popped off in the locker room the other day Albert and I thought, okay, he's he's he's different than I'm not going to say, I thought he was because when you report on this stuff, Albert, it's not me saying that I think that this guy is going to
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: standpoint.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's that other people are being like, I don't know.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: I worked with them and you never know and you know expressing some sort of a doubt.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think part of it has been awesome.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that question was always and then I think that's like it was a fair question to ask.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean like, so you have the fat like he's not he's not next player.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: He's a little bit like he had come off as a little bit dry, right?
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like when
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: the way I look at it like it's you just don't know and and then you have like the a little bit of like wishy washyness on him like in his previous candidacies like he pulls his name out of the panther search right and then the commander search if you remember that was a really weird and and in the communication of that
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: from Ben Johnson's camp to the commanders was really strange and there were like these questions.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't like it was almost like and it wasn't made necessarily wasn't necessarily fair to him but I think it kind of like came up with these questions like does this guy even want to be a head coach because he kept staying and these these things kept ending under weird circumstances and so I think
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: That sort of thing required more investigation by the teams that were interested in, and I could tell you that for a fact.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: It was a guess.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: Who is this guy?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: What is his personality?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: And there was a little bit of like a Mike McDonald to this, but what I mean by that, and this is nothing against either guy, but...
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: like to explain Mike in San Francisco like Mike would legitimately disappear on Monday and like a reemerge on Wednesday with the run game right and like there was just a way he did it where it's like how is that gonna translate to being a head coach
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_03]: And there were some of that stuff into Troy and because Dan was such a strong personality and Dan can kind of take all the oxygen out of the room.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like they didn't need Ben Johnson to be a strong personality into Troy.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: Right?
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking here, if you know what I mean, like they didn't need, like that wasn't what was required of them.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_03]: So that wasn't to say he couldn't do it.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's just that he never really did do it.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: And so how do you how do you project that guy as a head coach as a major part of being a head coach and you know if that's what they that's what teams that we're looking at him had to project and you know Ben certainly shown that he's capable of it but I think it was a fair question asked the time I do too and I think that anybody who's
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I haven't done my receipt check yet, Albert.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: But believe you me, I got him in my back pocket.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody who came out with knives for this show and other shows that I said the same thing on, that I thought the commanders would regress.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's just watch out right because fans it's great that you live in the moment But you have to understand that this stuff is not it.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's not static, right?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's it's not linear, right?
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's not this like just rocket ship to the moon that oh next through the bears are gonna be 15 and 2 and the next year They're gonna be 17 and oh and then
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to win the next 20 super balls like no it doesn't happen that way right there injuries there's luck adjusted stuff that happens, but for the moment He is certainly a front runner for coach of the year and I think he has the bears in such a unique position going into this packer's game.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's certainly not what I would have expected Albert all the way back in January when Ben Johnson's like, yeah, I'm dreaming about beating Matt LaFlor twice a year.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Matt LaFlor is like, I don't even know you bro and
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: at first you're like, whoa, this is, this is gonna be strange.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: But now it's like, wow, this is a legitimate rivalry.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's great, like I love, and I think this is what I've been trying to say.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: I love the fact that Ben has not at all.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: cave to public pressure in any way shape or form because there was that push back There was that push back like why are you saying stuff like that?
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you acting stuff like that?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: My name out of your mouth.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: He is colorful He is unafraid to be himself and he I don't know if you know this but he ripped his shirt off the other day at that thing because of like a hot dog promotion
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know that?
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I know.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: The winner circle.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: So it just was related to hotdogs, that people were going to get free hotdogs.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is in the library.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: Lines in Chicago were great.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like, do you see that?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: I think, yeah.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: This was great for the winner circle, too.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, and any time I can say weiner three times out of podcasts is great for me, too.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: So the trickle done because of all this I may now go to the weiner circle the next time in Chicago is great for business for them, too, right?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: It it truly is.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: On the Packers side, I think that they've made it through there.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: rough patch and a lot of that was injury, but I think that this is
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably a money maker game for Jeff Hathley.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: I would say, and Jeff is has positioned himself really well.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't actually say both of the Packers coordinators.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: My coaching list is coming out.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: I believe next week.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: In the last time, I kind of went through a round of calls.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: I heard that Matt LaFlor was really pushing both of those guys at instead of it on one side and Jeff Hathley on the other, both of them could get interviews this year.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this is a money maker game for Hathley
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: The bears are second NEPA in the rush right now.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think since they're by week, eighth and totally P.A.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: per play, the Packers defenses is coming up to that.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like 14th or whatever it is.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now they've been fantastic, but this is the kind of game where it's like, okay, we need to shut down the hottest offense in football.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm really excited to see what he comes up with.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: because this I mean this run game Albert for Chicago is just gutting people.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's destroying people.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean I like I think that's the one thing like When you hire an offensive head coach like that like I think the idea is like well, he's in there to fix the quarterback and that was true You know like but what they've been able to establish in the run game and how they've been able to establish the same sort of physical edge that Detroit had
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: And how they built through the lines of Scrum Edge, and you know, I think the reworking of the offensive line is like a great tribute to the marriage between Ben Johnson and Ryan polls, which wasn't a range marriage, you know, like, like those guys didn't know each other, and so.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Ryan obviously knows what he's getting in trading for Joe Tune because he was with them in Kansas City.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_03]: And then Ben Johnson knows what he's getting in Jonah Jackson because he was with him into Troy.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_03]: So now you got two veteran pieces coming in and then you, you signed Drew Dahlman, you draft Ozzie Trepello, I mean, the investment in the offensive line.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: And they made the same sort of investment in the defensive front, which didn't, it hasn't turned out the same way because of injury, right?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_03]: uh... tomorrow turner who got hurt you have dial odening bow who got hurt you have great shared who got hurt but they didn't vess in a defensive front also and it's just sort of a philosophical thing that you saw Detroit built on the nashicago is being built on and
- 21:22[SPEAKER_03]: Now you add that to the creativity and the run game and like just having talked to a few defensive coaches over the weekend about this, like after the bears did what they did to the Eagles, which was incredible.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: Again, like one of my favorite stats a week and I think I said it on Monday, right?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: But one of my favorite stats in the week and was at one point the bears on Friday had their
- 21:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and they had a couple, I think they lost yardage on their last running play, and then there was a kneel down, and that knocked them off of that.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_03]: So it was their second best rushing performance since 1984, falling behind another performance, another,
- 22:07[SPEAKER_03]: No, they're game and not in November.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: So there are two best rushing games in 41 years came in the month of November.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_03]: Think about that, right?
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: That's crazy.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: Better than anything the Chicago Bears in 1985.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: It was Walter Payton if they're running back.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like I just, you know, you think about the history of that franchise, they're both top 20 rushing days.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_03]: This is the franchise of Gail Sears and Walter Payton.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the two of the 20 best rushing days and the 16 year history of Chicago Bears happened in the month of November.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: And so like you think about, alright, like so they bring in the get it right on a bunch of offensive linemen and when you talk to coaches who have gone against them now as I'm gathering stuff for this, what do they tell you they're winning on angles they're winning on leverage that takes communication between the linemen and cohesion between the linemen so you have like five guys who've never worked together.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_03]: of front you've got a new coaching step like how this is all come together is such a great tribute to the job that they've done coaching them up identifying the right guys and then a player is buying in and how much easier does that make things for Caleb you know like we haven't even seen what this looks like when Caleb is at his potential because he's not yet you know like he's still looks I like he looks better no doubt like they've done a good job with him but he like you
- 23:36[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I had somebody there, you know, say to me like that like before Ben came aboard it was like I thought I was taking crazy pills like I really thought we were making progress from a roster standpoint.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's just wasn't for one reason or other wasn't none of it was clicking right and then, you know, Ben comes in and now it's sort of all come together.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: So.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_03]: It's, I think, you know, like this is one of those two, I know it's a cliche, but this is like one of those, it's great for football in Chicago's good.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_03]: This is just one of those franchises where having big games and soldiers feel late in the years awesome.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: And this was a lamb, but by the way, so I'm not mixing that up to everybody knows.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even like to have that.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Back off, Albert.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, I have to tell you about cash app.

- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get a couple of our thoughts on the rest of the big-boy games here and I guess so I'll bump them up into the big-boy club Just because it's Joe Burrow, but Bangalore spills is all of a sudden who wildly consequential because You know, and it's less about this Bangalore's pipe dream yet, okay, and more about it back then though
- 26:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they're four and eight, so they get the Ravens again, they get the Ravens again and the Ravens have seven losses.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: If you look at the Ravens schedule, it's not that hard to find one more loss on there.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_03]: So then they'd be at eight.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: The Steelers play the Ravens twice.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_03]: Someone's coming out of that game with seven losses.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_03]: The Bengals have eight losses.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_03]: The Bengals, if the Bengals went out, then they're three and one against the other two,
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: that's true.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: So they, that's why this is a huge game.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_03]: The Bengals can forget about it if they lose this one, you know?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_03]: But if they went out, like it's not hard to conjure a scenario where they win the AFC North and then, and then you've got Joe Burrow and T. Higgins and Jamar Chase going into the playoffs to the head of steam.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, that's true.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the real chaos would begin.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think if Pittsburgh beat Baltimore this weekend, and they're on the road, it's going to be a tough ask, you know, life just doesn't seem very good there right now, but we'll get to that in a second.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that Cincinnati defense is playing better.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the liability that it once was.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that they're kind of finally starting to get a little bit of a tailwind.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: And this running game is solid.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, when is the last time the last year that we could say that the running game is a strength of Cincinnati's at this point in the season?
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that they have a lot going for them.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the run defense hasn't been great all year hasn't been great and like, you know, I think like that Pittsburgh game was like sort of a microcosm of like Holy crap when they turn it on they're unbelievable, but it's just not consistent and I don't know what that is But for one reason or another you haven't gotten that consistent performance and I've heard a lot of people say like, oh like as the window closed on the bills If you think that you're not really paying attention to what's happening there
- 28:26[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I think the better a question is, is the core that they've built around Josh championship love because they just resigned a bunch of guys, you know what I mean?
- 28:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like Shakir, Russo, Cook, Bernard, Benford, like they've got all these young guys now.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: So like those guys, like the doors, the windows, not closing on those guys.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think the question becomes, is this group as good as the Poir, Hyde, White, Edmunds, like, digs, like it says good?
- 29:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's not, is Josh better, is Josh made enough progress where he can carry that other group to a championship.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's the question, like I don't think there's any question about like Windows closed.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's stupid and like that's people who aren't paying attention or what's actually happened there.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that it's a it doesn't accurately reflect like sometimes we view things in these periods of time and whatever.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's an interesting argument to be made that like maybe the Vikings have leftover year of Justin Jefferson's prime, but that's different than the
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: when you have a quarterback that everything falls into his orbit and he becomes spectacular, makes everybody else spectacular.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's different.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Your window's always kind of open, right?
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: But yes, I think that this is going to come down to and it's so interesting, right?
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: Because
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Cincinnati, if you're going by efficiency stats, through the second best running offense in the league.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: And Buffalo is, I want to say, okay, the 30th worst.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: rushing defense in the league on the flip side buffaloes the third best rushing off fence and the bangles are the second worst rushing defense on the NFL.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean it really does come down to a ground control game.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy to think because what the only thing that we're going to hear about in the pre game is like Dunn and it's like burrow and
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Keep pace with James Cook, Albert.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's going to be it.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: Can he find more yardage in the margins than James Cook?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: Is that like a rendition of the CBS theme music?
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: I tried to, but then I got all the theme songs.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think you were, because I think you went, I think you were going for CBS, but it was actually, that was actually the NBC music.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_03]: I went closer to NBC.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was the game you saw in it.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: The game's on what?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: Fox.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of those weird cross-flex things where now AFC, now you have like some big AFC games on Fox.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I know the whole thing just messes me up and then I would argue I like the prime song and that's been stuck in my head a lot lately too.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: kind of a lot to get to you here.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Colts jags.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is another one a clocker in Everbank Stadium with the big.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think are just gonna be people in the pool?
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: This weekend?
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: What's the weather?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Do they close the pool?
- 31:51[SPEAKER_03]: Because we know it's like not Miami.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 31:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like weather.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: So like 65 and raining.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_03]: So that actually could be fun like that that that like scene sounds of the type of weather where it's like it depends on how looped up everybody is like because there is a problem going that pool huh I'll go in that pool yeah so it's actually going to be 78 tomorrow but then dipping down to 65 and and some rain showers on Sunday and the rain could factor in too you know what I mean I think that the Daniel Jones injury is sort of an interesting
- 32:29[SPEAKER_03]: thing here for the cults like now like my understanding is like they feel like it like and what they've been told is like in a couple weeks he'll be fine but he's just gonna be fighting through it here you know and his fighting through it here and you know like so it has limited him a little bit and it limits what they can do a little bit so Jacksonville seems to be getting the cults the right time yeah yeah
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: it's funny because I remember us talking about this a couple of weeks ago where you looked at Jonathan Taylor and he had one of the smallest or lightest or whatever you want to call the lowest heavy box percentages in the NFL.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: So times that he's running the ball that teams put eight or more defenders in that immediate box like where your linebackers are and stuff like that.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that changed And I'm not saying like oh, I'm gonna pat myself on the back to give myself credit for it I think what happened was it's not like I uncovered this and then every defensive coordinator that was listening to the podcast It was like oh shit.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: We got to stop the run.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think everybody knew they had to stop the run I think everybody was a little bit more worried about them Or shit They were like shit.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean we've been trying to get this guys are DC for years like he knows and
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Quick aside, I was interviewing a up-and-coming coach, very nice person out over the summer, and we were walking around, and he goes, have you ever thought about?
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: getting into coaching because I think I asked like two good questions at a row.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then he was like, Oh, yeah, he's like, well, I have you ever thought about getting into coaching.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then I just like burst out laughing and I was like, buddy, just wait until the rest of this interview, you're going to be like, this is the biggest dipshit in the world.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: And no, I am barely qualified to coach youth track and field, which is like the only thing on my docket right now.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: from a coaching perspective.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: I would be so bad.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be like Madden engage every single time and you just hope that hope you can make something happen.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: I used to run goal line defense for college football 97 the whole time.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it's like having coach like third and fourth and fifth
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: teams, just blitz nonstop do that well yeah and I do and we don't like honestly like we run my high school defense which is like relatively aggressive but it's like way more like
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: way more like everybody's got a responsibility and the all 11 pieces fit together and it's it's amazing to me how this is no credit this is credit to my high school football coach Tom Lopez it's amazing to me how for all of the changes in football
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like just playing a good fundamental defense and not over thing yet and not making it how you still works it's like yeah like we taught we've taught little kid we taught third graders fourth graders fifth graders that and like it freaking works now like you have to get them to buy in and to do what they're you're being told to do but it's like for all that stuff that.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: For all that everybody makes about like football now versus what it used, it's still largely the freaking same.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: Oh 100%.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: And like 90% like I just, I don't know, but it always makes me laugh because I watch like a lot of these, I see some of these teams were just get hopped up on like blitzing all the time.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, hey, you're not teaching the kids anything by doing that because eventually that's going to stop working and be if you have like if you're playing against a coach who knows what he's doing, he's going to take advantage of all of it right away.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, oh yeah, it's possible you have like if you look at like youth football if you watch youth football You'll see a lot of 70 hard touchdowns is exactly why
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right, yeah, exactly why Ron Rivera used to always say balance, game plan, guys, 50, 50, 50, 50 pressure, 50, we'll less than that.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was like 30, 70.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: But back to my point, teams have loaded the box because Daniel Jones is hurt.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're not worried about Daniel Jones pulling the ball and running.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so you can put eight guys up in the box and the cults have gone from the best rushing team in the NFL over the last three weeks.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think Albert, it's like the 28th best rushing team in the NFL.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: if you can't figure out a way to change that it's it's lights out for this team and it sucks to say that because I think this was such a victory for stikin for the the process there.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you had Carly or say Gordon, you know, trading for good players like the vibes were good there, but you'll get caught.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: But you might just go here.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Jacksonville here.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the other thing, right?
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: Jacksonville is really good at mitigating explosive plays.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the explosive play has been the vehicle for the cults all season long.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's what their offense thrives on.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: And if Jacksonville can just keep a lid on this offense, then it becomes a Trevor Lawrence game.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: It becomes a Trevor Lawrence versus Louis at a remote game.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: At that point Albert it's what kind what version of Trevor shows up.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: I want to preface this.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: I want to preface this With like what Liam Cohen and James last known and Tony Bicelli and all those guys have done his remarkable in year one, right?
- 38:07[SPEAKER_03]: Like they've done a great job.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_03]: They deserve all the credit in the world for it That's what I mentioned that chief's game, right?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: And that chief's game was early October Their wins since then they're foreign three since then they're wins since then
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: Raiders, chargers without their tackles, bright artinals, Titans, right?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, and look, like that doesn't mean, they were competitive against the Seahawks is feathering their cap for that.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: They were competitive against the Texans, less so against the Rams, but I don't know.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I think it's interesting because they can get past this one,
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: then they still have a game with the jets and they still have a game with the Titans on their schedule, which tells you they can get to 11 wins, even if they lose the Colts and Broncos.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so that's the Colts the second time I'm saying.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_03]: So they're they're interesting.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if they're more than a one and done in the playoffs, but they've made from a program standpoint a huge huge huge step forward.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's so hard to pick Jacksonville in this one, Albert.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I forget what I did for staff picks this week.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: I actually don't know.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes I do let my son coin flip it if I'm not sure.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I might have done that.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think I went Jacksonville just because maybe you're hoping that this can be a good Trevor Lawrence game, but
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this indie defense is good.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're really good, and Luena Romo is really good.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that they can get in his grill there.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens and Steelers we alluded to it before.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is gigantic for so many reasons.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: And these teams are surprisingly evenly matched right now.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think Lamar is playing better than he's been giving credit for what that Bengals game there are so many touchdowns taken off the board.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that you can you can probably
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: You can probably rewrite the narrative of that game by going back and watching it and being like, okay, I can understand kind of what they were trying to do here.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: But this is a team that, you know, we got a middle of a road offense against a middle of the road defense.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: But both of these units are capable of being great.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Rogers can have a four touchdown game.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens defense can have a four touchdown game.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think that it's much worse.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: if Pittsburgh loses this one.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's the backslide.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: You know, yeah, you took the words out of my mouth.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_03]: Like this feels like a much bigger game for Pittsburgh than it does for Baltimore, doesn't it?
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like that.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: It just feels like, and maybe it's the way the second half wanting as Buffalo, because that was a disaster.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: But it just feels like with all the noise around them, and I mean, well, like I,
- 41:10[SPEAKER_03]: Mike Thomas not sitting there watching the fricking a block of of of get up you know what I mean, but like the fact that like his job security has been such a huge point of discussion this week.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about it on the podcast on Monday, right?
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: I, I like it just feels to me like this is like sort of a tipping point for them and maybe that's superficial it might be you know what I mean like that might not be reflective of you know the way that people in that building feel but um you know like they're sitting here is six and six and
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's one of those things where you look at their schedule and they got to play the lines and they got a Monday night against the dolphins and God if they lose this one, then like that Monday night game becomes a referendum and the dolphins are playing better.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_03]: It becomes a referendum on on Mike Tomlin, like I just think the temperatures are already turned up and it would go through the roof if they lose this one and so if they lose by like if they lose and like the last play of the game, like then you know like I don't think that this
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: really goes through the roof.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: But if they lose by a couple of touchdowns, I mean, look out, you know, like now the discussion turns into something that it isn't quite yet.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_03]: And it's already again, like kind of gotten hot there.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think the one thing that the sealers have going for them, and it could be an advantage.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: It could not be an advantage.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore hasn't just not seen.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: the level of a short passing game that Pittsburgh has, and it's just unique.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Pittsburgh does not stretch the field.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: They are second to last in deep passing in the NFL, they are by, I mean, 77% of their passes.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think, land within 10 yards of the line scrimmage.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's a lot.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: but within that you can figure out a way to be creative and you can maybe use some of the tendencies of this defense against them that this is gonna take a masterclass from arts myth It's gonna take a masterclass from Aaron Rogers
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: Rodgers has called out.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: We've reached the point in the season where he's calling out his wide receivers now for, you know, not picking up on his signals.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: All that kind of stuff.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: So we're here.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everything is right at their doorstep, but we also have two more games that I really want to talk about.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: The Texans and Chiefs.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: on Sunday night football.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my goodness.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is a big one, too.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: Here on the Texans, and this is their chance.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I mean, I, I look at Houston as like, so we know what the defense is.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: And the defense could you make the argument that defense is the best unit in the AFC?
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: the Texan defense, yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think you could make the argument that the Texan defense is the best defense in the NFL.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: Best unit, I'm saying like offense or defense.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, best singular unit, yeah.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: And like so you have that as your baseline.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_03]: And that's not going away.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: It's no fluke.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, they're ultra-town and they've got the scheme like that's not a fluke.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like that, it's a defense they've invested in and they've got premium players all over the freaking place, right?
- 44:23[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_03]: that that's not going away.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_03]: And then, offensively, I just, again, we, we, you look at all the young people that they've been relying on.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: that are now getting their footing.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's Nick Kayley is the coordinator, right?
- 44:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's Ariante, Ursary, a love tackle.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's Jaden Higgins, opposite Nico Collins at receiver.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's Woody Marx at running back.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: And so you start to look at it like all of these guys now and it's like, okay, like, now you reinsert CJ Stroud and CJ Stroud starting to look like himself.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, man, if CJ can start to look like he and I think he's got a chance now because all of these, again, like you know how they say, like rookie is once you get to like December, like they're not really rookies anymore, right?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe that goes for the coordinator too.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: The CJ now have a chance to recapture what he was as a rookie and if he does that, how dangerous does that team become?
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, and this is a lot of team is going to be afraid that this this is a team that went into arrowhead in the playoff last year So this environment isn't new to them, you know So I have a theory and I'm curious what your take is on this And it developed when I was watching the giants play the patriots and just seeing how well
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: Drake may fared against that Charlie bull in defense that tried to do a lot of the stuff that like man's Joseph's doing now because Charlie worked with fans and and and Brian Flores and all that and I think what these new attacking gorilla style defenses have done is they've shifted the power of an offense back to
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: you know, it's better to be a Patriot style offense where you have a specific set of things that you can do like a checklist.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: You're a pre-snap player, my homes, and he's the kind of leader in this, but a lot of these quarterbacks are more post-snap, right?
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: Where it's like, I can, I'm athletic, and so if what I'm seeing isn't there, I can buy time.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: You can't buy time anymore.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what you're seeing is like, like McDaniel, for example, has totally put the clamps down onto it.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like if you're, if you're, we're running the football.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's just what we're going to do.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: In Houston, we saw the game plan last week, especially the scripted portion of it was a lot of strout over the middle, quick throws.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: And they were doing that with Davis Mills, too, where it's like, we're going to take any of the creativity out of this,
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna have some pretty simple concepts that can be to couple different fronts.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we want you to just drop back and get rid of the ball.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: Drop back and get rid of the ball.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: Don't become victim to what these defensive coordinators want you to do.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's interesting.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, my home's just having a good idea.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is by the way.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what it is.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_03]: at his best, CJ is a really smart quarterback who can read it out and who I think
- 47:48[SPEAKER_03]: has this.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think like what he is his beautiful whip is anybody in football.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like just, yeah, he's ability to like hit like just how natural he looks throwing the ball.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 48:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like the way he whips the ball is in the way it pops off his hand.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't have the strongest arm in football, but like just as far as just man it looks pretty when it comes off his hand.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_03]: Like a man that looks
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, like I think what Nick Kaylee, and this is like, this is really inside baseball stuff, but like,
- 48:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think CJ's frustration was like last year, he couldn't do more to adjust it when he needed to.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_03]: And now he can, because Nick Kaylee's given him the power, sort of taking that power to make changes off the center and putting it back in the quarterback's hand, that's what the Patriot Offences.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_03]: And Nick Kaylee's doing that for him.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_03]: And,
- 48:48[SPEAKER_03]: like I think that's why you had some bumps early in the year because they were still going through that and empowering CJ and then you know he has a concussion where he's got to sit out a few weeks and I think now maybe you start to see the benefits of him being able to adjust things on the fly yeah and you and again that'll unlock his ability to win from the pocket you know which is is what he is.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm, but I think that was a long way of me saying that I wonder if the balance has tipped back into the favor of play strong defense, like kind of like a version of what Mike Tomlin would always want to do, right?
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: But an offense that can actually make you pay with some deep shots, setting up the deep shots, you know, almost like what the Rams do, where
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: They can play conservative, but then they can also just rip you apart, and they're never really at the mercy of a defense pinning its ears back and demolishing you.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: Before we go, thoughts, quick, well, we'll preview Eagles Charges on Monday.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: We could talk a little bit about that game on Monday.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: Any more quick thoughts on the weekend?
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we have, I mean, there's just, there's so much to do.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: I was so much here.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like just rapid fire, like I think for Seattle, Seattle Atlanta is interesting to me, just because I think this is Seattle's chance to again stamp themselves and like go in and dominate, you know, an opponent that they should be able to handle.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_03]: And it also is a flashpoint for the Falcon's where you can't get blown out.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like they're 49 now.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think 49 is that right?
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're 48.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_03]: 48.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and, you know, I just, I think that's another one where the temperatures turning up on the people in charge.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and so like, we have to, that's one, I think we have to pay attention to going forward, um, and where they're at over the next few weeks, um, I mean, you know, Tennessee Cleveland.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's, that's, uh, that's another one we have to see a picture of your plate, um, before that came.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_03]: Connor.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: uh... you know another chance to see she door there obviously and then to you
- 51:02[SPEAKER_03]: And then I think like there's another like quarterback referendum there with Washington going into Minnesota, you know what I mean?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and what is JJ looks like coming off the concussion.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: So there are some like interesting subplots in some of these games that might not be the highest leverage ones.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, I think for Aaron Glenn, like the opportunity to beat a 200 division game, you know, at home, I guess my Amy team is playing really well.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like the chats have started to turn a corner.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think you got to give, I mean, you got to give AG credit.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: for the way that they've played since the sauce and Quentin trades, which could have been out of everybody's sales, you know?
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think you've got a bunch of those games too where there are like little subplots that make them interesting.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, Eagles Chargers on Monday night is is fascinating for a number of different reasons.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: The Chargers have somehow stayed alive and they're sort of that team that you may have been tempted to forget about, but they're still standing.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_03]: And obviously, this is a huge one going across the country for the Eagles, you know, and coming off of that, um, that ugly awesome Black Friday.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Harba is going to have them up for this game.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you, there's absolutely no doubt.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: And then look, the chargers, give them credit.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think losing those tackles was massive for them, right?
- 52:21[SPEAKER_03]: to be able to rush for, they were just like 200 yards last week, right?
- 52:26[SPEAKER_03]: Without your two tackles, without your top two running backs, like no Amarian Hampton, no Naji Harris, to be able to maintain your identity.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like even though it's a weak inversion of the identity, I think it's really impressive.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so, are they able to do that against Nego's defense that gave up a million yards rushing?
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: to the bears, we'll see because the Eagles have rode their defense all year to the bears find something that's replicable, you know, for other teams, we'll see on Monday night.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good, that's a good point.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_01]: And as we close, you know,
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: I will just say this, I tweeted it Albert and you piggybacked on this, so if you missed it, the Eagles, there were some Eagles fans at Egg the House of the OC Kevin Patuolo, which is just ridiculous.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm in a compromise position because I was basically
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: a professional house agger throughout high school.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I was going to say that that's kind of become a lost art.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like that was, yeah, I, that was way more acceptable back in the day.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think, I think if you asked our parents, our parents would probably say that you almost expected your house to be egg done Halloween, you know what I mean?
- 53:42[SPEAKER_03]: It was so common back then, but
- 53:44[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, not so much anymore.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't, I just have to add that disclaimer.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not condoning it like someone kind of yelled at me the other day when I tweeted about like, I'm trying to find a way to condemn this while also thinking about literally like the 30 houses that I probably did that to, Which I was just probably some teenagers.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 54:02[SPEAKER_03]: That's the thing is like, This is not like a good idea.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: Did you hear the voices of the kids there?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_03]: on the or kids I didn't see any of that there's there's a video there's video in the one is just like you're like I mean unless they're using like a voice yeah I mean that's the other thing is like it shouldn't happen and it shouldn't like I mean it shouldn't happen in this it shouldn't happen period like it was like there was some awful stuff like
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: you know, Ryan Day dealt with last year after they lost to Michigan, then I was sort of privy too, where it's just like, it makes you, it kind of makes you like, oh, you know, like that, that's really gross.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's not cool.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, at the same time, in this case, it's like, you look at the other end of it, and it's like, was this just like some 15 year old jackass, like in his friends who are like,
- 54:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like OEA, you know, the funny ha-ha-ha, like let's go, you know, right.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_03]: Because these guys are part of moms and their parents garage, like, that very well might be what it was, you know?
- 55:08[SPEAKER_03]: But it's probably likely that that's what it was.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: All I'm gonna say is, and I appreciate it you backing me up on this because not everybody did as we get out of here.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave you with this thought.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: these, these people are celebrating on social media.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're high-fiving.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're thinking they did a good job.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: All of a sudden one day, there's gonna be a knock at that door and you're gonna open it and you're gonna find Eagles Director of Security Dom to Sandrow.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: Or worse, maybe some people that Eagles Director of Security Dom to Sandrow air quotes works with.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: you know what I mean so and you're gonna wish the police were there what's the line from Batman it's like uh... when uh...
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: when Mr. Reese tries to out-bruce Wayne is Batman on National TV and Morgan Freeman's character goes, you think your boss is a vigilante, pancake and cop cars on the evening news, and your plan is to tell on this person, and he was just like, okay, good luck.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so I say the same to the people who are celebrating this little victory that you, you,
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: went viral and good for you.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that, uh, hopefully you have a plan because, yeah, big dobs like other directors of security.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_03]: I will say once I once, when I was 12 years old,
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: I was probably 11, 12 years old, and there was an old lacrosse coach in Tanny founded our, our lacrosse program, Coach Oleski.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: And he was also an assistant football coach at the high school, and I love Coach Oleski, but this story, I was in sixth grade, seventh grade, somewhere in there, and there were snow banks in my parents' yard.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, whatever, a foot and a half a snow.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_03]: And so me and a couple of my buddies thought it would be funny to,
- 57:09[SPEAKER_03]: like basically like hide behind the snowbank and chuck like snowballs at cars that were passing oh for sure yeah classic and then you know we did a we did a little bit thought we ha so we started loading the snowballs at rocks
- 57:24[SPEAKER_03]: And, um, so it took it as that before.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_03]: So I, at one point, I took one in the pickup truck drives by and I wound up and, and you could hear the rock ding like that, like off the truck.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_03]: And we start a world like laughing in high five and I look 75 yards down the road and there he is screeching on the brakes and I am like oh crap I have no idea who it is oh crap and you know like any 12 year old I am running like my life depended on it like around the back of the house and coming in the back door so my parents don't think that I was out front they think we're out back right covering my track wow.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_03]: And sure enough, there's Kojo Leski at the door and yeah, what in the truck, he was the one driving the truck.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Mike, it was the guy.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: The only one I had similar to that was we used to go to Dunkin Donuts right before they closed and we would buy you get a dozen donuts for a dollar because they were going to throw them out, but you'd get all the cream in the jelly ones and then you'd just blast them at cars and you'd, uh, because that was funny.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, at the time.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so my one friend Steve still one of my best friends stood up with me there at my wedding.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we're driving his, uh, manual, uh, Subaru.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: and we go up and I hang out to window this car and I take a Boston cream and I just spike it on the windshield of this car because I think it's hilarious.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you look and all of a sudden, the car turns on.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's been sitting in there like reading a book.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: So the lights go on.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: The car goes on.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: The engine goes on and we look at each other and we start screaming and we will legitimately in a high speed pursuit.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: for it.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_03]: I could tell stories like these like I could maybe some would pop and the oxies and we'll do a full on like episode because I could tell stories like these that like last like into my 20s like the time my buddy going we we broke into a we we broke into a sorority house and like you know like the whole thing was like you tossed them you know all these to toss somebody's room right like so you
- 59:47[SPEAKER_03]: you've turned furniture over upside down and everything else.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_03]: And so we got, we got to a sorority house and we tossed their basements.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_03]: So basically like tipping things upside down, taking things off the wall, whatever.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's like pranks that you play on people and everything back then.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: And my buddy Gillen got the bright idea to grab a fire extinguisher and like basically like run around the fire extinguisher.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_03]: and like ruin like 5,000 dollars worth of furniture.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so, his little brother in the fraternity was this guy Chris Deatwiler, who is the president of the fraternity.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_03]: So, Chris had to suspend him from the fraternity.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like, one, two, one.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard, right?
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_03]: I can't remember, that was either the Theta House or the Capah house.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the Capah house that we did that to.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, sorry to the girls of Capah, it was not cool.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh man, uh, not condoning any of this guys.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, don't, uh, don't, uh, don't do it.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, everyone has a ring doorbell cam now.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you will kick everyone.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone has a camera in their pocket.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_03]: Now, so you can't do that stuff anymore.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_03]: Please follow while it lasted.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was, uh, sorry that we got to, uh, enjoy it all.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're like boomers with cheap real estate, except we just got to jerk around for 10 years.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, how do you build my estate in us?
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, good luck to those.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I say good luck because I don't mean that I hope you get caught.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh,
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_01]: Good luck to those evading big dumb.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't envy you.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably a This is probably a dicey stitch, but enjoy this consequential weekend of NFL football It's about as big as it gets every single second of this weekend matters So plant yourself on the couch do your Christmas shopping online and we'll see you on Monday
- 1:01:59[UNKNOWN]: You
