- 0:00Speaker 1: All I got was dirty looks in a sore neck.
- 0:02Speaker 1: I don't need that.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 3: I'm strong and geddy, one more thing. It's hard to
- 0:09Speaker 3: imagine where this is going.
- 0:12Speaker 1: One of the great companies of the world, Apple with
- 0:18Speaker 1: one of the great fails. Nobody really talks about anymore,
- 0:22Speaker 1: but Jack. It probably still stings you a little bit.
- 0:24Speaker 1: The thirty five hundred dollars Vision Pro.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Ah, why does it stingy VR thing?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Did you buy that one?
- 0:31Speaker 3: I bought one for someone.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Oh?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Okay, so the headline in the Wall Street Journal they
- 0:37Speaker 1: paid thirty five hundred dollars for.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Apples Vision Pro. Year later. It still hurts.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The mixed reality headset launched with great promise, but all
- 0:45Speaker 1: these buyers got were dirty looks and sore necks.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I don't need that.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah, it you don't ever hear anybody talk about it.
- 0:52Speaker 4: It was the most extraordinary VR experience I've ever had,
- 0:56Speaker 4: by far, I mean, multiples better than anything else I'd
- 1:01Speaker 4: ever tried. The problem still exists of Okay, that is
- 1:05Speaker 4: really really super cool.
- 1:07Speaker 3: M No, I got other things to do. I mean,
- 1:10Speaker 3: there's just.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think anybody I had a VR experience
- 1:16Speaker 1: in the station that was a fraction the quality of
- 1:18Speaker 1: what you've described from the Vision Pro, and and found
- 1:21Speaker 1: it just astounding and interesting. And I thought, I've got
- 1:26Speaker 1: to get one of these systems. One of these days,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm going to get one of these systems. And I
- 1:29Speaker 1: never did, right. I just think this staying power, or
- 1:34Speaker 1: the power to continue to amuse or use it isn't
- 1:37Speaker 1: what all of us imagined it would be.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so had he ever done one of these just
- 1:41Speaker 2: out of curiosity?
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:42Speaker 5: I have the I have the Meta Quest.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Yeah, my kids use that occasionally, but not near as
- 1:48Speaker 4: much as you'd think they would, not as much as
- 1:50Speaker 4: you'd think they would.
- 1:51Speaker 5: I haven't touched it in months.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the problem with all that's do you get
- 1:56Speaker 3: motion sickness?
- 1:57Speaker 5: No? I get headaches though.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Okay, well similar sort of thing. Then that's my number one.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I would probably own the Apple Vision Pro. If I
- 2:06Speaker 4: didn't get motion sickness. I would use it for I mean,
- 2:09Speaker 4: like for watching movies. Even if you just use it
- 2:11Speaker 4: for your Apple TV and you're watching four K and
- 2:13Speaker 4: the biggest screen you've ever seen in your life, it's
- 2:16Speaker 4: fantastic or anything like that, But get I get motion
- 2:20Speaker 4: sickness so bad, like a third to half of people do.
- 2:23Speaker 4: That's the biggest hang up to anything VR is the
- 2:28Speaker 4: motion sickness problem. Until they cure that, I don't see
- 2:30Speaker 4: how it's ever gonna amount too much.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was sure I was going to have that problem
- 2:34Speaker 1: when we did the demonstration of the station, but I didn't,
- 2:37Speaker 1: to my surprise, cause you know, I can't. I can't
- 2:40Speaker 1: ride the damn tea cups at Disneyland because any any
- 2:43Speaker 1: like weird visual stuff goes on, I'm in complete pass
- 2:48Speaker 1: out in puke mode.
- 2:49Speaker 3: That's interesting.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Bother, that's interesting that the actual physical thing gives you that,
- 2:53Speaker 4: because I don't get that, but I do from the
- 2:57Speaker 4: the I stuff. And like I did the ride at
- 2:59Speaker 4: Universe Studios, the Simpsons ride, which is all a fake
- 3:03Speaker 4: roller coaster. You sit in a little thing, you put
- 3:05Speaker 4: on the reality vision thing and it's really really cool,
- 3:10Speaker 4: but it made.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Me so nauseous. I was sick the rest of the day.
- 3:12Speaker 3: It was horrible.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I took a little bit of an issue and with
- 3:17Speaker 5: the quest I had the little headset that you put
- 3:19Speaker 5: in so you get like the full immersed.
- 3:22Speaker 6: I had a real issue with having lost all control
- 3:26Speaker 6: of my surroundings on like actual planet Earth.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Oh really, Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Something really bothered me that, Like, if somebody walked into
- 3:34Speaker 6: my house, Oh, I was rummaging through my stuff, I
- 3:36Speaker 6: would have zero idea because I have this thing strapped
- 3:39Speaker 6: to my forehead.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, there is a little bit of that. Yeah. I
- 3:43Speaker 4: did a VR thing in La one time.
- 3:45Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 3:45Speaker 4: It was where you you walked around with dinosaurs. It
- 3:49Speaker 4: was just stunning, cool, absolutely stunning. I would the experience
- 3:54Speaker 4: of sitting by a lake with the Apple Vision Quest
- 3:58Speaker 4: on my head or the Apple Pro on my head.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I can still remember. I can still almost feel when
- 4:03Speaker 4: I think about it. It was so amazing. It was
- 4:06Speaker 4: actually like being next to a lake. That experience was
- 4:09Speaker 4: so fantastic. I could see why you'd want to do
- 4:13Speaker 4: that on a regular basis. But it's pretty pretty expensive.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So this one dude, Quintin in the article, he's a realtor.
- 4:18Speaker 2: He's got them realtor eyes.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah, uh, he says, of your watching movies and stuff,
- 4:25Speaker 1: he says, Oh, I guess he's talking about using it
- 4:29Speaker 1: for work.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But he said it's way too heavy.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I can't wear it for more than twenty or thirty
- 4:32Speaker 1: minutes without it hurting my neck.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I was thinking if i'd watch movies, I'd just lay
- 4:36Speaker 4: in bed on my back looking straight up. I'd be
- 4:38Speaker 4: pretty comfortable.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Oh wait a minute.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Buyers who wore them in the wild say they got
- 4:43Speaker 1: nothing but dirty looks and sore next. Now the devices
- 4:46Speaker 1: are daily reminders of they're misplaced.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Bravado, who was going out in public wearing one of those.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, well that was the idea.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't have to look at it, you look
- 4:55Speaker 1: through it to give VR assistance everywhere you go.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I don't want to live in that world.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I don't either, the I think the heaviness.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Well, so I don't do computer stuff, but if you
- 5:09Speaker 4: have a job where you do computer stuff, you can
- 5:11Speaker 4: have everything up on your screen in front of you. You
- 5:13Speaker 4: can have multiple screens. You move it around with your eyes,
- 5:16Speaker 4: your hands, or you look at things and you click
- 5:18Speaker 4: with your fingers. I mean, it's it's pretty cool, but
- 5:21Speaker 4: apparently it's not cool enough to make people who do
- 5:24Speaker 4: a lot of work on computers rather do that than
- 5:26Speaker 4: sit in front of their screens.
- 5:27Speaker 3: In their office.
- 5:29Speaker 7: Yeah, Michael, No, it's just been my experience at any
- 5:31Speaker 7: of these products over the years involves you putting something
- 5:34Speaker 7: on your head, whether it's three D glasses for TV.
- 5:37Speaker 7: I remember a couple of years ago was supposed to
- 5:38Speaker 7: be big.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe people just like it, accept the idea of
- 5:43Speaker 4: putting something on your head. I thought the Apple Vision
- 5:45Speaker 4: Pro might catch on with people who are pretty frequent travelers.
- 5:49Speaker 4: You aren't just waked looking at your phone to watch
- 5:51Speaker 4: a movie. You're taking in like the greatest Imax theater,
- 5:55Speaker 4: sitting in the seat of your plane. But I don't
- 5:58Speaker 4: think I've ever seen one human being with one of
- 6:00Speaker 4: those on their face on a plane now.
- 6:02Speaker 6: And according to the Google, these things weigh about a
- 6:05Speaker 6: pound and a half. So if you think about that
- 6:07Speaker 6: amount of weight when you're trying to move your neck
- 6:09Speaker 6: around and stuff that kind of residual pole, I could
- 6:11Speaker 6: see how that can start messing things up if you
- 6:13Speaker 6: wear it too much.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Well, that's so funny. You should bring that up.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Jack.
- 6:16Speaker 1: The next thing they talk about is this one dude
- 6:18Speaker 1: who takes his vision pro on flights to watch movies.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I get pretty dirty looks from people.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I don't need that, he says, But then funny people.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Care about that.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I don't give a crap. If you give me a
- 6:29Speaker 4: dirty look. I would never notice what you think what
- 6:32Speaker 4: I'm doing is I can't even imagine caring.
- 6:34Speaker 1: But another reason the thirty five year old stopped flying
- 6:37Speaker 1: with it. The size of the case sold separately for
- 6:40Speaker 1: one hundred ninety nine bucks. The vision pros pillow like
- 6:42Speaker 1: white protector is about a foot tall, nine inches wide,
- 6:44Speaker 1: six and a half inches deep.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Quote.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It takes up like half the volume of my carry on.
- 6:49Speaker 4: It's a fair amount of equipment you got to carry
- 6:50Speaker 4: with this because the battery to have four K at
- 6:55Speaker 4: that I mean, to have that level of graphics takes
- 6:58Speaker 4: a pretty powerful back.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You be able to do it free length of time,
- 7:01Speaker 3: and you got to carry that around with you.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Interesting.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So I'm looking at eBay and here's one for two
- 7:07Speaker 1: grand twenty four hundred, twenty six hundred, twenty nine hundred. Ooh,
- 7:11Speaker 1: here's one for two hundred and fifty six gigabytes and accessories.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Does that matter, Jack, You.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Don't need to worry about the gigabytes.
- 7:18Speaker 1: No, not yet anyway, eighteen hundred and nineteen hundred. Here's
- 7:22Speaker 1: one for sixteen hundred and twenty five bucks.
- 7:25Speaker 4: That's about yeah, Because I was looking at them at
- 7:26Speaker 4: that long ago. A couple grand will get you a
- 7:28Speaker 4: good one that's hardly been used. If you want to
- 7:30Speaker 4: try it out, they make one that's a terrabyte or whatever.
- 7:33Speaker 3: You just don't. You don't need that much. It doesn't
- 7:35Speaker 3: do you any good.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Oh okay, interesting, you know for for sixteen hundred bucks,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I guess I could see it.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Can you like? Can you like tour?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Uh?
- 7:48Speaker 2: Great? The great cities of the world, do they have
- 7:50Speaker 2: that sort of a.
- 7:51Speaker 4: There are a few things like that. That is one
- 7:53Speaker 4: of the drawbacks. I've done a lot of reading about this,
- 7:54Speaker 4: because I almost bought one for myself. The big hold
- 7:58Speaker 4: up is apps. It didn't catch on enough that there
- 8:02Speaker 4: was enough money in it for any of the big
- 8:04Speaker 4: app makers to really pour a lot of R and
- 8:06Speaker 4: D into making great apps, like happened with the iPhone.
- 8:09Speaker 4: iPhone shows up and then all of a sudden they realized, Wow,
- 8:13Speaker 4: this is a great opportunity. We should, you know, do
- 8:15Speaker 4: everything we can to come up with an app people up.
- 8:17Speaker 4: That has not happened with the Apple Vision pro so
- 8:19Speaker 4: there just since it's been out a couple of years,
- 8:21Speaker 4: there haven't been many great apps come along real really
- 8:25Speaker 4: hardly any.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Wow Wow, here's this one guy, an Apple super fan
- 8:30Speaker 1: who thought the vision Pro could be the next iPhone.
- 8:32Speaker 1: He flew to New York from Israel last year to
- 8:35Speaker 1: be one of the first people to buy the headset.
- 8:38Speaker 1: At the store, he met Tim Cook and got him
- 8:40Speaker 1: to sign the back of his iPhone and his vision
- 8:42Speaker 1: pros box.
- 8:43Speaker 4: It's incredibly impressive. You just got to figure out what
- 8:48Speaker 4: would I use this for and when? If you haven't
- 8:49Speaker 4: done the demo, It's really easy to set one up
- 8:52Speaker 4: at an Apple store. You know you're at gonna be
- 8:54Speaker 4: at the mall. Set one up, going there and they'll
- 8:56Speaker 4: demonstrate it for you. It's stunning.
- 8:59Speaker 1: He says he doesn't regret the purchase. He still loves
- 9:01Speaker 1: watching movies with his Vision Pro, especially three D films
- 9:04Speaker 1: like the recent Metallica, sold as an immersive experience of
- 9:07Speaker 1: the heavy metal band stadium filling live shows.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It feels like you're at the concert, he says.
- 9:12Speaker 4: If I was childless, I would own one, but I thought, Okay,
- 9:14Speaker 4: so I got this great, I'm gonna watch one.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I never watch movies alone. I watch movies with my kids,
- 9:18Speaker 3: so it's no use to me.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Sitting in the living room with your kids. Oh guys,
- 9:23Speaker 5: you should see this is about.
- 9:24Speaker 4: You can't watch this great movie I'm watching while you
- 9:27Speaker 4: sit and stare at your dad on a Friday night.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Or the three can sit there each wearing a thirty
- 9:32Speaker 1: five hundred.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Dollars spend ten grand exactly.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 4: That was the other thing that they thought might catch on,
- 9:37Speaker 4: is that like you have one on here and your
- 9:40Speaker 4: daughter in another town has it on, and you communicate
- 9:42Speaker 4: that way with your avatar.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But it sounds great, it sounds great, but people don't
- 9:47Speaker 3: seem to be doing it.
- 9:49Speaker 7: Oh figure, Well, we'll see what happens. But I think
- 9:53Speaker 7: this thing's gonna slowly fade away to be one of
- 9:55Speaker 7: those products we're gonna look back at and go remember when, Yeah, well,
- 9:59Speaker 7: I guess that's it.
