- 0:12lore in the boys from county.
- 0:14Hell.
- 0:16You'll also get an extra special top five this week.
- 0:21This is the boys from county hell.
- 0:24This is Xenomania.
- 0:45Kearns: Are,
- 0:46Ryan: I'm always hype for Irish folklore.
- 0:48Irish anything.
- 0:50Kearns: we're, we're getting close to St. Patty's Day
- 0:52Jon: We are, this should come out just in time,
- 0:56Kearns: yeah, probably
- 0:57Ryan: it will.
- 0:58Cornbread,
- 0:59Kearns: Sweet.
- 1:00And
- 1:00Ryan: cornbread.
- 1:01Corn.
- 1:01Kearns: is the boys from county Hell, A pretty sick little Underknown,
- 1:06I'd say Underknown Vampire movie.
- 1:08Jon: definitely under known.
- 1:11a, this was a shutter original, or at least it wasn't.
- 1:14It's in the States.
- 1:15I don't know what the release in Ireland looked like, but this is another shutter.
- 1:21Ryan: it seemed like
- 1:22Kearns: doing pretty well for themselves if you ask me.
- 1:24Ryan: it, it, it seemed like it was a production company from Ireland.
- 1:27And then shuttered, swooped on it,
- 1:30Jon: Yeah.
- 1:30Ryan: And Shutter releases some special films.
- 1:33I mean, uh, what is it?
- 1:35A Violent, violent nature.
- 1:37In
- 1:38Jon: In a violent nature.
- 1:39Ryan: They're getting
- 1:40Jon: Yep.
- 1:40Ryan: sequel with that.
- 1:41That's gonna
- 1:42Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:42Ryan: on shutter like.
- 1:43They got hits.
- 1:45Kearns: Didn't Nate, so they got JJ Abrams basically.
- 1:49They're like, oh, you got a
- 1:50Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:50Kearns: We're just gonna, we're gonna just put our name on that sucker for you
- 1:54Jon: I think,
- 1:54Ryan: Straight
- 1:55Jon: think they buy the distribution rights in the US
- 1:57for a lot of the foreign stuff.
- 2:00Kearns: that may like troll hunter.
- 2:01You think like something
- 2:02Ryan: basket
- 2:03Jon: I think.
- 2:04I think troll hunter predates shutter, but terrified for sure.
- 2:09I believe that Satan's slaves in the US was a shutter release Boys from county.
- 2:15Hell, there's a few.
- 2:16Kearns: Pretty cool.
- 2:18Jon: I think Baskin was also, yeah.
- 2:21Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:21We are doing a lot of fuzzy foreign films.
- 2:24Jon: Yeah.
- 2:25Ryan: That's awesome though.
- 2:26Kearns: down.
- 2:26And when they're good, I, you know what?
- 2:28I went through a phase of doing, 'cause I watch anime so I can do subtitles.
- 2:32I'm not, I'm mere mortal, you know, I can read my movies I
- 2:36Ryan: watch it.
- 2:37Kearns: started with watching Sweet Home on Netflix that I think it's Korean
- 2:41Ryan: Yep.
- 2:42Kearns: Horror series.
- 2:43Oh
- 2:43Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 2:44Kearns: superseded expectations like crazy.
- 2:46Just don't watch season two.
- 2:49It gets bad fast,
- 2:51Ryan: build it up, so great.
- 2:53You're like, watch season one.
- 2:54Don't, don't do two though.
- 2:56Kearns: it even ends well.
- 2:56Like season one's got a pretty decent ending.
- 2:58You're good.
- 2:59Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 2:59Kearns: end right there.
- 3:01Jon: Yep.
- 3:01Kearns: John watched it, right?
- 3:02Jon: I think I did.
- 3:03I'm trying to remember.
- 3:04I watched stuff that I don't remember watching, so I don't log tv.
- 3:10Kearns: there's some
- 3:10Jon: Yes, yes.
- 3:11Kearns: thing that turns
- 3:12Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:13Kearns: the monsters are different and cool.
- 3:15Jon: Yeah.
- 3:16I definitely watched the first season.
- 3:18I don't remember watching the second season.
- 3:21Kearns: It was cool.
- 3:22I watched a lot of it.
- 3:22'cause I would be sleeping, like trying to go to sleep and I'd have
- 3:25the iPad like right here watching it,
- 3:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 3:27Kearns: out 20 minutes into an episode and then end up rewatching it all.
- 3:30And it was kinda like, it was like reliving dreams almost.
- 3:35Ryan: I, I know that feeling.
- 3:37Kearns: Yep.
- 3:38but this movie, this movie deep.
- 3:42first thing we gotta talk about are there, there's some Easter, well we
- 3:44should probably talk about the director and all the stuff you guys know about
- 3:49before we hit some of the Easter eggs, I noticed they were cool though.
- 3:52I'm sure you guys saw 'em,
- 3:55Jon: Oh no, let's do e Easter eggs 'cause I don't have a lot on this director
- 3:59Kearns: Well, the,
- 4:00Ryan: same here.
- 4:02The stoker was nice.
- 4:03Jon: thing.
- 4:04Yeah,
- 4:04Ryan: Yes.
- 4:05Kearns: a
- 4:05Jon: that was, I was thinking that was where you were going with Easter eggs,
- 4:08the whole, you know, stoker legends and being from around that area,
- 4:15Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:16Jon: in the movie.
- 4:17Kearns: So the name of the bar is the Stoker as well, right?
- 4:20Ryan: Yep.
- 4:21Jon: Yep.
- 4:21Ryan: a
- 4:21Jon: Yep.
- 4:22Ryan: Dracula on there.
- 4:23Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:24So that's, a nod to Bram Stoker, obviously.
- 4:26But there's, um, American Werewolf in London one too.
- 4:29Jon: Absolutely.
- 4:30Yeah.
- 4:30We're right at the start with the two tourists.
- 4:32Kearns: was watching it.
- 4:33I
- 4:33Jon: Yep,
- 4:33Kearns: bring this up and feel so
- 4:34Jon: yep,
- 4:34Kearns: they, they both know already, you
- 4:36Jon: yep.
- 4:37Ryan: When they go
- 4:37Jon: It,
- 4:38Ryan: just
- 4:38Jon: yeah.
- 4:39Ryan: alone.
- 4:40It's
- 4:40Jon: they, and they, they may, they, the two, the one tourist makes the
- 4:43joke about, oh, don't go in the Moors.
- 4:46Right.
- 4:47And,
- 4:48Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:49There was also the symbol.
- 4:50Wasn't there a thing with, one of the signs, I
- 4:53Jon: yeah.
- 4:54Kearns: more because I remember something about the signs, like it
- 4:56looks like the symbol in the movie.
- 4:57Um.
- 5:00Ah, I had it in my head.
- 5:02Don't worry.
- 5:02I'll get, it'll come back to me.
- 5:04We're gonna circle back to
- 5:05Ryan: I am trying to figure it out.
- 5:06What sign?
- 5:06'cause I figured like
- 5:08Kearns: near their house.
- 5:10Um, and it, look, it's a nod to American Werewolf in London as well.
- 5:15Ryan: I know what you're talking about now.
- 5:17Okay.
- 5:17Kearns: You articulate it
- 5:18Ryan: I was, I was, yeah, no, I was going with more of like the burial
- 5:22stones and I kept going back to like my grandmother, my grandmother's from
- 5:26Ireland off the boat and she would in the heavy broke, tell me all these stories.
- 5:30And it's like I was looking at the stones and that, like the grave burial saying,
- 5:35I was like, they're gonna mess with this.
- 5:37And this is, you don't do that.
- 5:38Not in Ireland.
- 5:40You don't, you don't mess with any burials or anything.
- 5:42You leave it alone.
- 5:44There's don't mess.
- 5:46Kearns: I believe they're called Cairns
- 5:48Ryan: Cns.
- 5:48Yep.
- 5:49Kearns: the rock, right?
- 5:50The Cairns.
- 5:50Ryan: The cns
- 5:51Jon: Yep.
- 5:52Kearns: cairns.
- 5:53Ooh, ooh.
- 5:56It's getting dicey over here.
- 5:57So that's another funny part about it.
- 5:59'cause county hell, there's no county hell in Ireland.
- 6:02Silly Gooses.
- 6:04There's
- 6:05Ryan: I,
- 6:06Kearns: county Mayo, and Kill County and all
- 6:09Ryan: oh, I got it confused.
- 6:11I got it confused with the 1970s.
- 6:13So.
- 6:14there's a seventies film, I think named similar and I was
- 6:17like, oh, we're gonna watch this.
- 6:18This is gonna be interesting.
- 6:19Nope, we watched this one.
- 6:21Kearns: too, when I, I was like, oh, I'm so hyped for this.
- 6:24I thought it was gonna be an older one.
- 6:26And I, you know, I just don't get excited for the older stuff as much as I used to.
- 6:29And I said, I was like, Ooh, 2020.
- 6:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 6:32Kearns: Neat.
- 6:33Ryan: You are like modern.
- 6:34Yes.
- 6:35Kearns: this one goes into, so we get into like sort of an origin
- 6:39story, which there's been a lot of stuff coming out like this, like
- 6:41Nosferatu and things like that.
- 6:43But this is sort of an origin story of where the vampire
- 6:47myth may have really taken off.
- 6:49There've been vampire myths worldwide for, so we can't say
- 6:55Jon: Yeah.
- 6:55Kearns: first vampire.
- 6:57The Celts didn't come up with that, this is Irish folklore and,
- 7:01the AB attack is, a interesting take on what the, did I get it?
- 7:06First try is an interesting
- 7:08Jon: Close enough for me.
- 7:10Kearns: the Vampire is.
- 7:11Um, oh, I, I love myth.
- 7:13I just love it.
- 7:14So when I got in, I saw this, I'd never heard of it before
- 7:18and I went nuts, you know, I'm
- 7:19Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:20Kearns: Helpie, the Banse, and all this fun stuff.
- 7:22And you're like, wait, there's a vampire over there.
- 7:25And this one's a vampire with a neat twist because they really tie it to the cairn
- 7:29and we'll get into sort of how it operates
- 7:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:32Kearns: like that.
- 7:32But essentially they, they stay true to the original myth, which has to
- 7:37do with a, blood drinking monster.
- 7:40don't use the term vampire, obviously.
- 7:42the T attack, is a menace and he's out doing meac things and
- 7:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:48Kearns: with accordingly By a dwarf.
- 7:50And the, in the movie they say
- 7:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:53Kearns: but it's a dwarf in the folklore and they can't figure out how to kill it.
- 7:57So they just put a big heavy rock on it.
- 7:59That's the end of the story.
- 8:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:01And it turns out like that's one of the things I really like is that they take
- 8:07what we're used to seeing in vampire movies and say, nah, none of that works.
- 8:12You can't stake 'em, sunlight's not gonna help.
- 8:16You basically have to bury them and put a whole bunch of rocks on top of them.
- 8:21Kearns: We can't get out.
- 8:23Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:24And he also doesn't, doesn't bite victims.
- 8:26He just sort of remotely drains them, which I think is kind of scarier.
- 8:32Ryan: I love that.
- 8:34Kearns: scary comparatively because you could be a room away
- 8:36and it's, it's around and you
- 8:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:39Kearns: awful.
- 8:40Ryan: was like the biggest unique twist of it when watching it,
- 8:43especially in the first scene.
- 8:44'cause you see that nice, lovely Irish couple, they're just trying to enjoy
- 8:48their tea, maybe talking about going out, getting a drink, going to the pub.
- 8:51They're like unsure.
- 8:52And then you see the blood flowing from her nose and then he looks over and
- 8:56the blood's flowing from his eyes and you're like, what the hell's going on?
- 8:59'cause you're like, all right, like it's some with vampires or
- 9:03something, but like what is happening?
- 9:05And then as it progresses with the myth, of course he's drain
- 9:09the blood from them like that.
- 9:11It's so unique.
- 9:13I mean, you get a little biting here and there, but to have that it just
- 9:18Kearns: the
- 9:18Ryan: so good.
- 9:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:20Kearns: there's definitely a gul, a tangent, ghoul thing.
- 9:23They
- 9:24Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 9:25Kearns: the
- 9:25Jon: Yeah,
- 9:26Kearns: vampire lights.
- 9:27Um, so you can be turned by this thing.
- 9:30Ryan: Yes.
- 9:31Oh
- 9:32Jon: to a degree.
- 9:34Ryan: yeah.
- 9:35It has to do
- 9:36Jon: Not.
- 9:37Yeah.
- 9:38The stones are what turns you not him so much.
- 9:43Kearns: Not him
- 9:43Jon: Abak.
- 9:45Kearns: The a hack.
- 9:46The, so the thing about the cairn, what we figure out while you watch
- 9:50this movie that's kind of cool is that the cairn has it, maybe it's
- 9:54cursed, maybe, but it's what's causing the turning of the other people.
- 9:59Now, whether or not the A hack gets his power from the cairn or whether or not him
- 10:03being buried under it, gave it its power
- 10:05Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:06Kearns: that's kind of up for debate.
- 10:08Jon: Yeah.
- 10:10Ryan: The
- 10:10Jon: Yeah.
- 10:11I mean, I'm, I'm gonna think the power of the cairn sort of goes through him.
- 10:17Kearns: maybe he just like lived there until he
- 10:20Jon: Yeah.
- 10:21Kearns: Clint
- 10:21Jon: it's sort of.
- 10:23Kearns: Torino and he is just like, get off my lawn.
- 10:25He turned into a vampire.
- 10:26He was there so long.
- 10:27Jon: Yeah, it's a, it's because, I mean, obviously they
- 10:32haven't managed to kill him.
- 10:33He's just buried under some stuff that he can't get out from under,
- 10:38Ryan: but I
- 10:38Jon: so whatev, whatever life force he has is still there.
- 10:42Kearns: That's true.
- 10:43Ryan: if it feels like it transported through the cairns, you know what I mean?
- 10:47Like life force went through the rocks, because Hear me out when one
- 10:52of the carriers hits the rocks, hits the cairns, and turns into a vampire.
- 10:58I mean, I come on now, like
- 11:05I am making some movie sense here.
- 11:07All right.
- 11:07Because he touches, he touches the cairns and he turns it to like a vampire.
- 11:14Kearns: he's doing it on purpose, not nearly as fun.
- 11:15When he does it on purpose.
- 11:17Ryan: Oh, this is
- 11:17Kearns: say the name of the vampire.
- 11:18'cause I've been waiting for it all day.
- 11:21Ryan: the, uh, the, uh, AR talk.
- 11:26Kearns: All right.
- 11:26That's pretty good.
- 11:27Jon: Not bad, not bad.
- 11:28Ryan: had a look at that.
- 11:29The, the Albuquerque.
- 11:31Kearns: I want, I want you to kind of tie up what you, the, the point you
- 11:34were making or were you just saying all that to just make fun of my name?
- 11:37Ryan: No, no, no.
- 11:38I feel like being buried under the cairns, right, he's buried under the rocks.
- 11:44All that life force of his is like transporting to those rocks.
- 11:48That's why no one's like touching them, doing anything
- 11:50and then they touch 'em and then
- 11:53Kearns: Things
- 11:54Ryan: all, yeah.
- 11:55So like, I mean it's simple, but it works.
- 11:58And that's like, it's different too.
- 12:00That's what makes it so good.
- 12:01And the comedy element, skipping on the big guy's name, but he
- 12:05was like one of the best parts.
- 12:07Kearns: Is that Charlie?
- 12:08Ryan: Was it Charlie?
- 12:09Yeah, it's Charlie.
- 12:10Charlie Hart.
- 12:12was just, uh, so funny.
- 12:14Kearns: So one thing I wanna do before we get further along into this part of it is
- 12:19we gotta hit the fact that there's a whole plot about, basically it's the movie up.
- 12:23they wanna build a highway through the guy's house and the guy
- 12:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 12:26Kearns: anywhere, but it does have bearing later on in the movie.
- 12:29So we should mention
- 12:30Jon: Yeah.
- 12:31Kearns: of how this
- 12:32Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:33I'd say it's, it's a road project that's gonna go through the Cairn
- 12:37and through, George's house.
- 12:40Ryan: Yep.
- 12:40Jon: And George is going to be left with no home and, a free, a tech.
- 12:47Kearns: is not ideal
- 12:49Ryan: A
- 12:49Kearns: for anybody.
- 12:51Jon: No.
- 12:51And George sort of gets a whole other problem added to it.
- 12:55When Eugene's best friend and George's son William falls into the Kern and
- 13:01gets, you know, stabbed, puncture wound and then attacked by some kind
- 13:08of animal, I think a wild boar bull.
- 13:12Ryan: both.
- 13:12Kearns: Yeah, I think it's a bull that the dad was like, let out.
- 13:16I'm thinking it's dad's fault if I'm not mistaken,
- 13:20Jon: I,
- 13:20Kearns: boys get blamed for it and they get banned from the stoker.
- 13:23No more drinking,
- 13:24Jon: mm-hmm.
- 13:25Mm-hmm.
- 13:27Kearns: things blow
- 13:27Jon: Well, yeah, and I mean, William's gone at that point.
- 13:30William dies in that field, and,
- 13:33Kearns: That's true.
- 13:33Jon: uh, that's the end of that.
- 13:35Well, as much as vampires die, he dies in the field.
- 13:41And I mean, as luck have it, his father George is a mortician, so,
- 13:49Kearns: There you go.
- 13:50Ryan: Yeah.
- 13:50Kearns: cheap and easy.
- 13:52Jon: but it
- 13:52Kearns: do a poor job on it.
- 13:53Have you ever seen the electrical work in an electrician's house?
- 13:56You know what I'm talking about?
- 13:57Jon: mm-hmm.
- 13:58But e even in the, in the, this sort of part, it's very American
- 14:03werewolf in London also, I.
- 14:04Ryan: Oh, absolutely.
- 14:06But it
- 14:07Kearns: that?
- 14:08Ryan: well.
- 14:08Jon: It's, you know, the, the, the one, the one dies in the,
- 14:13Moors or in this case, the one dies in the field with the cairn.
- 14:17And, you know, it becomes about the other one.
- 14:20Moving on, I mean, not in this case, not infected in any way, but, you know,
- 14:25sort of taking, taking on William's life and William's dreams almost.
- 14:31Kearns: there you go.
- 14:33Ryan: a similar setup.
- 14:35'cause they go from the pub, they
- 14:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:37Ryan: and then all hell breaks loose.
- 14:40Jon: Yep.
- 14:40Ryan: um, I'm happy you mentioned Williams, like his dream and stuff.
- 14:44'cause the, the poor kid just wants to go to Australia.
- 14:48He just wants to live his life and it's set up beautifully.
- 14:51And then Eugene, I guess gets a little jealous and they have a little fight.
- 14:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:55Ryan: it's like American werewolf in London.
- 14:58'cause of that remorse.
- 15:00I feel like Eugene feels remorse as similar to the main
- 15:03character in American Werewolf.
- 15:05he gets bit and his friend's dead, he feels sorry and he's, I mean, different
- 15:10style of film, you know, werewolf and this guy's human, but they have to go through
- 15:14these actions to make it better as much as they can or try to, and for Eugene,
- 15:21it's working for his father and kind of leads to where we head off after that.
- 15:28Jon: Yeah, sort of begrudgingly working for his father, it was
- 15:32definitely not what he wanted to do.
- 15:35Ryan: not Eugene.
- 15:38Jon: It.
- 15:38He did not wanna work for
- 15:40Kearns: their dad?
- 15:41Ryan: It, it's horrible.
- 15:43I,
- 15:44Kearns: Terrible.
- 15:45Jon: not great.
- 15:47Ryan: we've all done it.
- 15:48Okay.
- 15:49Settled on
- 15:50Jon: not great.
- 15:50Kearns: Well, it's
- 15:51Jon: great.
- 15:52Kearns: some capacities, boyfriends, which is the worst of the two, in my opinion.
- 15:57Ryan: think that'd be better.
- 16:00No.
- 16:00Uh, okay,
- 16:03nevermind.
- 16:05Kearns: Stepdad light, I guess it's worse.
- 16:10So
- 16:12Jon: Oh,
- 16:13Ryan: You have a game.
- 16:14Jon: of course there's a game.
- 16:16Of course, there's a game.
- 16:19Ryan: What?
- 16:19Jon: Uh, it's,
- 16:20Ryan: been having a good time.
- 16:21Kearns: a thing.
- 16:22You can't make me.
- 16:24Jon: it's gonna be another, um, wonderful Stash or slash
- 16:31Kearns: Hooray.
- 16:32Jon: and we're gonna start here.
- 16:34Kearns: on here, I'm stashing it.
- 16:37Ryan: Vampires,
- 16:37Jon: start right here with, of course it's vampires.
- 16:41It's not gonna be, it's not all ones that are like huge obviously.
- 16:46'cause here's embrace of the vampire.
- 16:48Kearns: some pretty huge things in this one.
- 16:50Ryan: that.
- 16:51Jon: I, I, I just have, I just have to tell you, Alyssa Milano is probably my
- 16:58biggest Hollywood crush, like forever.
- 17:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 17:02I
- 17:02Jon: we're, she, she, yeah.
- 17:04She and I are approximately the same age, so it was never creepy when I was in love
- 17:08with her, when she was on Who's the boss?
- 17:10And I just sort of grew up with that.
- 17:13Kearns: That's fine.
- 17:13As long as you don't watch reruns, you're okay.
- 17:15Jon: Yeah.
- 17:16And I don't So we're good?
- 17:18Kearns: Get into trouble.
- 17:19Jon: We're good.
- 17:20Kearns: The problem is now, it's like Angela's Young,
- 17:23Jon: Yeah.
- 17:24Ryan: yeah.
- 17:26Jon: Yeah.
- 17:27They,
- 17:28Kearns: not
- 17:28Jon: they, but this was like Alyssa Milano's look, I'm not a kid anymore.
- 17:33Movie.
- 17:35She was not a kid anymore.
- 17:39Kearns: Way before she was on that show with the other two
- 17:41Hussies, what were their names?
- 17:43Jon: Uh, one was Shannon Doherty.
- 17:46Charmed
- 17:46Kearns: and Rose
- 17:48Jon: Rose McGowan.
- 17:49Yep.
- 17:50Kearns: Yeah,
- 17:51Ryan: Oh.
- 17:51Kearns: That was charmed.
- 17:53Ryan: Huh?
- 17:54Kearns: cousin loved that show.
- 17:55I could never get into it.
- 17:57Ryan: Yeah.
- 17:57Rose McGowan came after because,
- 18:00Kearns: Buffy wave, you know?
- 18:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 18:02Ryan: a good show.
- 18:03I, I like
- 18:04Jon: I,
- 18:04Kearns: knew you were gonna defend it,
- 18:05Ryan: I
- 18:05Jon: I,
- 18:07Ryan: I do
- 18:07Jon: I never, I never watched an episode of Charmed, but I did wake up while
- 18:12it was on, because it used to be on after the NBA on TNTA lot of times.
- 18:17Ryan: mm-hmm.
- 18:17Jon: So if I fell asleep before the end of the basketball
- 18:20game, I'd wake up to Charmed.
- 18:23Kearns: You'd be like, gone to heaven.
- 18:25Jon: Oh,
- 18:27Kearns: This is amazing.
- 18:28Jon: what happened to LeBron?
- 18:31Kearns: What do I do with this movie?
- 18:33Ryan: Uh, I'm gonna slash it.
- 18:35I'll, I'll break it.
- 18:36I haven't seen it, so I'm gonna be honest, but I wrote it down.
- 18:39Kearns: really good ones out there.
- 18:41I have to slash it too 'cause I just, I don't think this holds up.
- 18:44Ryan: I'm curious
- 18:45Kearns: are No.
- 18:47Jon: It, it, it doesn't hold up.
- 18:49It, the only reason it holds up is because of the, the love scenes, so to speak.
- 18:56Kearns: Yeah, it's like a, it's like a c porno.
- 18:58Jon: Yeah.
- 18:59It's, as close to Skin Max as, you know, Hollywood movie.
- 19:04Kearns: unrated and R-rated versions
- 19:06Jon: Yeah.
- 19:06Movie.
- 19:07it's not show girls, but it's, it's in that ballpark.
- 19:14Ryan: All right.
- 19:14Jon: All right.
- 19:15Kearns: showgirls was too.
- 19:17Ryan: It's a classic.
- 19:18Jon: Movie number two.
- 19:19Kearns: Okay.
- 19:20Let's see.
- 19:23Oh, I mean, that's no-brainer.
- 19:26I love this movie.
- 19:28Ryan: Are we keeping three?
- 19:29Getting rid of five?
- 19:31Jon: Yes.
- 19:31Three, five.
- 19:33Three, five.
- 19:33Ryan: keep this one.
- 19:34Yes.
- 19:35I'll stash it with cairns.
- 19:37Jon: So two.
- 19:38Kearns: I might slash it now.
- 19:39No, I'm gonna, I gotta keep it.
- 19:40Ryan: You.
- 19:40Oh.
- 19:40Kearns: really do love this movie.
- 19:42The premise of this movie is terrifying without any film behind it.
- 19:45It's just such a great idea.
- 19:48foreign vampires, so they show up on the boat at the beginning of this, like.
- 19:54Trace Nocte thing that's going on the long
- 19:57Ryan: Yep.
- 19:58Kearns: so cool.
- 19:59Ryan: Have you, have you read the book, the, the graphic novel?
- 20:02Kearns: seen the graphic novel.
- 20:03I don't own
- 20:04Ryan: Oh,
- 20:04Kearns: but I've, I've viewed it on the interwebs.
- 20:07Ryan: so good.
- 20:07I, I read the graphic novel and then saw the movie.
- 20:10It's exactly as like that first run.
- 20:14Harnett does an amazing job.
- 20:16The buildup just like, uh,
- 20:19Kearns: Net's understated man.
- 20:20Ryan: yeah, he is, it's just so good.
- 20:23And it's like tense because like as you go through the movie and people
- 20:27are falling, it's like last hope.
- 20:29As the days are coming to a close, it's like, what do we do?
- 20:32And then you get that big swerve, even the book, how they build it up too.
- 20:37It's like, whoa, this is what we're doing.
- 20:40Okay.
- 20:41right.
- 20:43Just so
- 20:44Jon: All right.
- 20:45Ryan: If it was the sequel.
- 20:45No, thank you.
- 20:49Jon: 31 days of night.
- 20:50Kearns: I I didn't catch the sequel.
- 20:52Yeah.
- 20:52I knew that was gonna be a dud.
- 20:54Ryan: I, so they did it real quick.
- 20:56In, in comic book they did a sequel.
- 20:58The comic book was definitely 10 times better.
- 21:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:02Ryan: the movie, they just, they dumped it and it didn't work.
- 21:07Kearns: Hm.
- 21:09Jon: All right.
- 21:10Ready for three?
- 21:13Kearns: Yes.
- 21:14Jon: There we go.
- 21:16Kearns: Nah.
- 21:17Ryan: Yeah.
- 21:18I, I'll, I'll slash it.
- 21:20Kearns: You know what's so funny is in the first episode we were
- 21:22like, this should be an Oscar
- 21:24Ryan: Yeah.
- 21:25Kearns: I did like it.
- 21:26I really did like this movie, but I don't think, I just know there's
- 21:30gonna be some curve balls coming up.
- 21:32And I know John, John wants me to stash this.
- 21:35Ryan: Dracula dead and Loving it.
- 21:37Kearns: She does such a great job in this movie.
- 21:39But you know what, I'm slashing it just for the stash slash for the stash.
- 21:43Jon: All right.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:45Uh, I forgot about this stash.
- 21:47Yeah,
- 21:48Ryan: if we do a rewatch of this, I'll grow a mustache.
- 21:52Kearns: Please God.
- 21:52Never grow a
- 21:53Jon: please don't.
- 21:54Please don't.
- 21:55Kearns: world.
- 21:55There wasn't a single person in our orbit at work that wasn't talking
- 21:59about the, how awful that mustache was.
- 22:02Ryan: I, I liked my mustache.
- 22:04It was okay.
- 22:04Kearns: a, you were an army of one.
- 22:08Jon: Yeah.
- 22:09Kearns: with a beard, man.
- 22:13Don't
- 22:13Ryan: you.
- 22:14Thank you.
- 22:15Jon: I don't know, maybe, maybe more handlebar.
- 22:19Ryan: I was thinking about that,
- 22:20Kearns: that could work.
- 22:20Ryan: the fraud,
- 22:21Kearns: was too, too, too little.
- 22:24Ryan: right?
- 22:24It was like, it was like, yeah.
- 22:27Jon: Yeah.
- 22:27Ryan: I mean, like, well,
- 22:28Kearns: lean outta your car and offer kids McDonald's to come into it.
- 22:32Ryan: yeah.
- 22:33All right.
- 22:34I mean, I can do, I'm gonna do the race out.
- 22:36Cool.
- 22:37Kearns: Ooh Ray.
- 22:39That would be a good one.
- 22:40You could do a bur bull.
- 22:41Hurley stash.
- 22:42Ryan: Ooh, do that.
- 22:44Kearns: like it's a goatee without the bottom,
- 22:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:48Ryan: I'm down for that.
- 22:49Kearns: Baby.
- 22:50Jon: Yeah.
- 22:50Kearns: go.
- 22:51Jon: All right.
- 22:52Ryan: I
- 22:52Jon: Movie number four.
- 22:56Kearns: Yeah.
- 22:58this one too.
- 22:58I'm stashing this.
- 22:59I have to.
- 23:01I really enjoy this movie.
- 23:03Jon: Yeah.
- 23:04Ryan: Hmm?
- 23:05Jon: Yeah, I do too.
- 23:05I love this one.
- 23:07Kearns: little twisty twist to it too.
- 23:08This isn't Chamal and ding-dong, is it?
- 23:10Jon: No, no,
- 23:11Kearns: Because I
- 23:11Jon: this.
- 23:12Kearns: him credit for this one.
- 23:13Jon: This is the original Scandinavian one.
- 23:18Kearns: Even better.
- 23:19That's
- 23:19Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 23:21Kearns: It's so good.
- 23:22Jon: Yep.
- 23:24Ryan: Slash
- 23:26Kearns: Did not see it coming.
- 23:27Ryan: i I did.
- 23:28I haven't seen it.
- 23:29I haven't seen it.
- 23:30Jon: Um,
- 23:30Ryan: being
- 23:31Jon: Ryan.
- 23:31Ryan: It, it was, it.
- 23:32Kearns: not say.
- 23:32In
- 23:33Jon: Ryan.
- 23:33Kearns: I don't wanna ruin it for
- 23:34Ryan: It, it was, it was one of those things where it's on the
- 23:37radar and then a chance to watch it, and then they take it off
- 23:42Jon: Ryan, your radar is like an underpaid, overworked
- 23:46air traffic controller.
- 23:49You're just leaving stuff circling until it crashes.
- 23:54Ryan: I
- 23:54Jon: Ryan?
- 23:55Ryan: I'm horrible nowadays.
- 23:57Kearns: man, without having seen any of these?
- 23:59What if you
- 23:59Jon: Yeah.
- 24:01Ryan: Well, at least in, in, in like my final saying on like, from
- 24:05what you'll guys say, for the best movies I've watched, you'll mention
- 24:07Seven Samurai, you know, you'll mention Yo Jimbo bring her back like.
- 24:14Kearns: What I'm gonna do at your memorial?
- 24:16I'm,
- 24:18Jon: I,
- 24:18Kearns: he didn't,
- 24:18Jon: I,
- 24:19Kearns: but he never saw let the right one in.
- 24:20So shame this
- 24:21Jon: I, I swear, swear.
- 24:25Even if I have to pay for it, I am putting Bring her back on your tombstone.
- 24:31Ryan: Oh, you can do that.
- 24:32Kearns: mine or his,
- 24:34Jon: Ryan's on Ryan's.
- 24:36Ryan: with the
- 24:37Jon: I don't.
- 24:41Kearns: I'm just gonna put a butcher knife there.
- 24:44Chew on it.
- 24:44Now you son of a bitch.
- 24:50Jon: All right.
- 24:50Ready for the next one
- 24:52Kearns: yes.
- 24:52Let's move on.
- 24:53Jon: before we kill Ryan off.
- 24:55Uh,
- 24:55Ryan: Don't kill me off.
- 24:57Jon: there we go.
- 24:57Kearns: do vampires.
- 24:58I knew it was coming.
- 24:59Dude.
- 25:01I
- 25:01Ryan: know,
- 25:01Kearns: this movie too.
- 25:02Ryan: uh,
- 25:04Jon: Remember, you only have one stash left.
- 25:07Kearns: I do.
- 25:08Ryan is too.
- 25:09Ryan: I do.
- 25:10And I, uh, but you might do, mm. You might cover fright night.
- 25:15might do.
- 25:16Kearns: gonna do Lost Boys.
- 25:17I'm, I'm
- 25:18Ryan: He is,
- 25:18Kearns: for Lost Boys.
- 25:21I have to wait for Lost Boys, just for the, the way the movie ends
- 25:25Ryan: uh, you know what?
- 25:26I, I'm gonna stick my guns.
- 25:28I have fond memories of John Carpenter's vampires, because
- 25:32I'll tell you a quick tidbit.
- 25:34My uncle showed me this.
- 25:36Kearns: I'm
- 25:36Ryan: Oh,
- 25:36Kearns: it spiritually, but not physically.
- 25:41Ryan: listen, when I saw this, I was not supposed to watch this.
- 25:43My uncle thought it was just a regular vampire film, and
- 25:46then he like tits in the,
- 25:48Kearns: Jovi
- 25:49Ryan: oh my tits.
- 25:51In the first five minutes they're dropping F bombs.
- 25:53He's like, ear must,
- 25:54Kearns: movie doesn't have tits?
- 25:56Ryan: um, house of Dracula.
- 25:58Horror of Dracula.
- 26:00Lost boys doesn't have tits.
- 26:01I,
- 26:02Kearns: feel like Lost Boys
- 26:04Ryan: no.
- 26:04Kearns: boob.
- 26:04At the very least,
- 26:05Ryan: Uh, okay.
- 26:06Kearns: was an eighties.
- 26:07That was an eighties thing.
- 26:08So maybe
- 26:09Jon: Hmm
- 26:09Kearns: was like violence was okay, but nudity was definitely out.
- 26:13Jon: mm-hmm.
- 26:14Ryan: I'd
- 26:14Jon: were trying to keep,
- 26:15Kearns: believe that.
- 26:16Jon: they were trying to keep lost boys in that teen audience too.
- 26:20And once you throw nudity in, you're not gonna get that.
- 26:23Kearns: they can't go to the box office.
- 26:25Jon: Yeah.
- 26:26Ryan: I mean, it's still good though.
- 26:28I mean, the amount of f-bombs in this film is,
- 26:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 26:33Ryan: it's been beaten, but at the time, held the record.
- 26:37Jon: All right.
- 26:37So what are you doing with this, Ryan?
- 26:40Ryan: Oh, I said I I'm gonna stash it.
- 26:42Kearns: He is stashing it.
- 26:43Ryan: I am stashing it.
- 26:44Kearns: Son of a bitch.
- 26:45Ryan: I,
- 26:46Jon: So
- 26:46Ryan: the the
- 26:47Jon: you both had.
- 26:48Kearns: still
- 26:48Ryan: The opening scene.
- 26:50What?
- 26:51Kearns: or four
- 26:51Ryan: Oh man.
- 26:52He's got
- 26:53Kearns: scene's fantastic.
- 26:54Jon: Oh, there's three left.
- 26:56You guys each have one stash and two slashes, and I think
- 27:00it's gonna get tough from here
- 27:02Kearns: I am sure it is.
- 27:05Jon: next.
- 27:06There it is.
- 27:09Kearns: Why would you do that there?
- 27:11I thought it was gonna be the last
- 27:12Ryan: Uh,
- 27:13Kearns: Now I have to slash the next two without knowing I have to stash it.
- 27:18There's no, there's no questioning.
- 27:20It's the lost boys for Christ's sake.
- 27:22I'm very happy with my choices.
- 27:23By the way, 30 days of night, let the right one in.
- 27:26And the lost boys are, I will sleep fine tonight.
- 27:31Jon: Oh, we'll see.
- 27:33Ryan: you know what I, this is Jada's film.
- 27:36This is her favorite film.
- 27:38Kearns: a good thing.
- 27:38We're not asking her to
- 27:39Ryan: it's,
- 27:40Kearns: at that.
- 27:40Ryan: oh, it's gonna relate to my top five two, but I'm slashing it because I know
- 27:45you have probably Bram Stoker's Dracula on here, and I'm not, I'm not slashing that.
- 27:51I'm not slashing that.
- 27:53Kearns: I have no problem slashing that.
- 27:54I
- 27:54Jon: Do I
- 27:55Kearns: it's Keanu
- 27:57Ryan: I,
- 27:57Jon: do I guys, this, this is a really broad category, so if
- 28:02you're trying to do this based on what you think I have on here,
- 28:06Ryan: I,
- 28:07Jon: it's gonna be hard.
- 28:08It's gonna be hard.
- 28:09It's, it is vampires, but, all right.
- 28:13Ryan: I'd
- 28:13Jon: Let's see.
- 28:14Kearns: still cool with this.
- 28:16Jon: So Kerns, you're cutting the last two Ryan.
- 28:18You can keep, you can stash one of these.
- 28:21Ryan: I'm ready.
- 28:22Jon: movie number seven.
- 28:24Yeah, he's got one left.
- 28:25Kearns: 30 days at night, didn't he?
- 28:26Ryan: Yeah.
- 28:27Jon: kept 30 days a night in vampires.
- 28:30Kearns: Okay.
- 28:30Just those two.
- 28:31Jon: He slashed.
- 28:32Lost boys.
- 28:33Ryan: yeah.
- 28:34Jon: movie number seven.
- 28:38Ryan: That's
- 28:39Kearns: Um,
- 28:39Ryan: actually
- 28:40Kearns: okay with that.
- 28:41Ryan: what
- 28:41Kearns: But I, this is
- 28:42Ryan: this is Good.
- 28:43Kearns: I'm okay with that
- 28:45Ryan: I'm gonna
- 28:45Kearns: compared to my other three.
- 28:47I'm fine with that.
- 28:48Ryan: I'll slash it, but it This is good.
- 28:51The show's funny too.
- 28:52I do love the show.
- 28:54Just ended.
- 28:56Jon: Oh yeah, you guys just got rid of the show.
- 28:58'cause without the movie, the show doesn't exist.
- 29:01Ryan: Oh wow.
- 29:02It was great while it lasted.
- 29:06Jon: All right.
- 29:07Kearns: we do in the shadows is fantastic.
- 29:08All right.
- 29:09What'd you do for the last one?
- 29:10Because I
- 29:10Ryan: Okay.
- 29:10Kearns: wasn't meant to hurt my feelings.
- 29:12Ryan: What do we got?
- 29:13Mystery box.
- 29:16Oh, I'm, I'm ex I'm cool with it.
- 29:17I'm cool with it.
- 29:18I completely, yes.
- 29:22Kearns: would I trade for this though?
- 29:23Ryan: Um, 30 days a night.
- 29:27Kearns: No,
- 29:28Ryan: What?
- 29:29Kearns: think that's the better Vampire movie
- 29:31Jon: That's probably the one I would from what you stashed you.
- 29:34Ryan: Sam
- 29:36Jon: too.
- 29:37Ryan: This, my conversation earlier with Jada was Sam Hayek.
- 29:40Kearns: Selma Hayek, Quentin Tarantino licking her feet thing.
- 29:45is vampires, and the vampires in this movie are pretty mediocre,
- 29:50Ryan: Danny
- 29:50Kearns: my opinion.
- 29:51Ryan: Marin, the titty twister.
- 29:54Kearns: No, they're, fighty vampires.
- 29:56They're martial artsy vampires.
- 29:58They're, night of the, uh, what's it, demons kind of vampires.
- 30:03Jon: you, like how I bookended that with sexy, we embrace the vampire
- 30:07and from dust till dawn at the end.
- 30:09Kearns: I, I didn't get
- 30:10Ryan: like it.
- 30:10Kearns: thirst trap either you tricky bastard,
- 30:15but that, that Selma Hayak in that movie is the peak of like
- 30:19everybody's lustful desires.
- 30:21Literally, anytime somebody shows a, like a thing of women that you have
- 30:25to choose from and she's not on there, the only GIF for meme that comes
- 30:28down there is her with that snake.
- 30:30Ryan: Yep.
- 30:31Kearns: think it's unanimous.
- 30:32Every man in the world agrees.
- 30:34Ryan: The scene's also iconic.
- 30:37Jon: Yeah.
- 30:38I,
- 30:39Kearns: her name?
- 30:39Diablo.
- 30:40Um,
- 30:42Ryan: Yep.
- 30:42Kearns: Tica.
- 30:44Jon: Satan.
- 30:46Kearns: Double double on that one.
- 30:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 30:48Ryan: just, uh, now I got the movie in my head 'cause I'm thinking of the
- 30:52Kearns: I'm cool with it.
- 30:53I'm cool with it.
- 30:54I think 30 days night's the better Vampire
- 30:57Ryan: Oh.
- 30:58Compared to from dust til dawn.
- 30:59Okay.
- 31:00Kearns: I didn't say it was the better movie.
- 31:01I just think it's the Better Vampire movie.
- 31:04I don't consider it from Dust till dawn to be a vampire movie Really?
- 31:07At all.
- 31:08Ryan: Action.
- 31:10Kearns: Yeah.
- 31:11Ryan: But
- 31:11Jon: It's 2D.
- 31:13Kearns: movie,
- 31:13Jon: Yeah.
- 31:13It's two different movies.
- 31:15It's a, it's an action movie for about 40 minutes, and then it's a vampire movie.
- 31:19Ryan: but that's like that thin line.
- 31:21Real quick.
- 31:21'cause I was thinking about Blade today, like Blade is action,
- 31:25Kearns: an action movie.
- 31:26I
- 31:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:27Kearns: vampire movie
- 31:27Ryan: there's a little horror in it though, with
- 31:30Jon: Yeah.
- 31:30Ryan: the vampire myth and the buildup and all that.
- 31:34A little, but
- 31:34Kearns: like edgy, sexy, deacon Frost.
- 31:37He, I'm surprised he doesn't have his, Steven Dorf doesn't have
- 31:40his logic cigarette in that one.
- 31:42He's just, just, I don't know, dude.
- 31:46To me, it's not a vampire movie.
- 31:48Let the right one in is a terrifying concept of a vampire movie.
- 31:52Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 31:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:53Kearns: and what the cost of immortality is, and how lonely that can be.
- 31:56The isolationism.
- 31:58Oh my God, that's a story, you know?
- 32:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 32:02Kearns: And I didn't give too much away
- 32:04Jon: No, no.
- 32:05Ryan: Yeah,
- 32:05Kearns: gotta tell you, Ryan, you're going to be affected by that film.
- 32:09Ryan: that I'm gonna try to
- 32:11Jon: Very.
- 32:11Yeah,
- 32:12Ryan: I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it this weekend.
- 32:14Kearns: I hope you do,
- 32:15Jon: you should.
- 32:17You definitely should.
- 32:18Kearns: think
- 32:19Ryan: I will.
- 32:19Kearns: need to be delivered from this
- 32:21Ryan: I need to let the right one in,
- 32:23Kearns: film do
- 32:24Jon: And not the, don't watch the American one first.
- 32:28Kearns: now.
- 32:29It's really good though.
- 32:30Jon: It's, it's good.
- 32:31It's nowhere near the original.
- 32:33Ryan: it's not like a grudge like situation where like the
- 32:37Japanese version's better and the American version just tanked.
- 32:41Jon: No, the,
- 32:42Kearns: The American version of the grudge is bad.
- 32:44Jon: yeah, no, let, let the right one in is definitely the superior version,
- 32:51Ryan: Okay.
- 32:51Jon: but let me in.
- 32:52Does, does enough things well for it to be good.
- 32:55I,
- 32:55Ryan: Okay, I'll check it out.
- 32:57I've seen enough like pictures of it, of the girl from the original
- 33:02version, so I get something's going on with her, but I don't know much one
- 33:07of those things that I didn't spoil.
- 33:11Kearns: there's a, there's a, it's not even a slow burn, it's just a good movie.
- 33:15Just watch
- 33:16Jon: yeah.
- 33:16Kearns: if I talk about it anymore, I'm gonna ruin it for you.
- 33:18And I'd hate myself if I did that 'cause I, you really gonna love it.
- 33:22It's
- 33:22Ryan: I
- 33:22Kearns: of
- 33:22Ryan: I,
- 33:23Kearns: man.
- 33:23Ryan: I'm down for it.
- 33:25I'm down.
- 33:25Uh,
- 33:25Kearns: come back and revise the list after.
- 33:27See if you change your tune a little bit about vampires.
- 33:30'cause you saw your boobies on there, your first boobs.
- 33:34Jon: I don't, I don't know, because that's still John Carpenter and that's, that's
- 33:38like a big Ryan Ryan Love thing there,
- 33:42Ryan: Oh,
- 33:42Kearns: carpenter.
- 33:44Ryan: from New York.
- 33:45Uh, you know what?
- 33:45I don't wanna start the thing.
- 33:48M Ready.
- 33:49Kearns: right.
- 33:50All
- 33:51Jon: star man.
- 33:51Kearns: to this movie
- 33:53Ryan: boys from county?
- 33:54Hell.
- 33:54Kearns: Alvar talk.
- 33:56So, um, as people begin dying and bleeding, the rocks
- 34:01start slurping up the blood,
- 34:04Jon: Yep.
- 34:04Kearns: that is the means to which the ABT attack seems to be gaining
- 34:08strength, not drinking directly from people, as John alluded to earlier.
- 34:13So the goring by the bull basically gave enough juice to
- 34:17the cairn awaken the ABT attack,
- 34:21Ryan: Mm-hmm.
- 34:22Kearns: but he
- 34:22Jon: And then
- 34:23Kearns: out yet, like
- 34:24Jon: no, because he still couldn't, he still couldn't get out from under
- 34:27the rocks until construction starts.
- 34:32And Eugene, under his father's orders, knocks the cairn over and
- 34:38from then on nothing is right.
- 34:41Ryan: No.
- 34:41Kearns: And doesn't Eugene figure that the um, or doesn't his father
- 34:45George figure that that's going to keep the, the A attack is going to get
- 34:49out and just kill all the road guys?
- 34:51Isn't that the logic?
- 34:53Jon: Um, George kind of thinks that, but I think George is also well aware
- 34:57of what it's gonna do once it's freed.
- 35:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 35:03Jon: I think George's interest from the time his, his son William dies
- 35:07is William, and anything beyond that is just sort of incidental.
- 35:15Kearns: Gotcha.
- 35:17Ryan: agreed.
- 35:18'cause he's
- 35:18Jon: But, um, you need
- 35:20Ryan: to help this son.
- 35:23Jon: mm-hmm.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:25He's trying to do something with his son who we find out he, he has
- 35:31his very much still unde son locked up in, a barred room in his house.
- 35:41Ryan: I just
- 35:42Kearns: I mean, I, I could, I could imagine doing something similar to that.
- 35:45Sure.
- 35:46Jon: Yeah.
- 35:46Yeah.
- 35:47I mean, definitely.
- 35:48That's, that's what you should do.
- 35:50Kearns: Yeah.
- 35:50I mean, I would,
- 35:52Jon: Yeah.
- 35:52Kearns: a zombie movie?
- 35:54Yeah.
- 35:54Ryan: yep.
- 35:55Kearns: Dawn of the Dead, he
- 35:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:57Kearns: zombie wife and then
- 35:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:58Kearns: baby
- 35:59Jon: Yes.
- 36:00Yep.
- 36:02Ryan: Seems still horrific.
- 36:05Kearns: free.
- 36:06Rent free in the head?
- 36:07Yep.
- 36:07Ryan: The CGI baby.
- 36:10Kearns: It just jump scares you and then you start act two of the film basically,
- 36:14Ryan: Yep.
- 36:14Jon: Yeah, but I mean, from here it's sort of you now they really sink into
- 36:20the horror comedy You get, Charlie, the guy they hire as a guard who gets
- 36:28turned into it, becomes a vampire.
- 36:30And, you know, trying to, trying to get rid of him turns into a lot of fun gags.
- 36:35Like, like they put the pole through him and then like put him in a hole.
- 36:40And in the background he's like climbing his way off the pole.
- 36:45Kearns: and you can't
- 36:46Jon: They do a, they do a lot of funny stuff in the background.
- 36:50I believe it's the ab attack gets its head cut off at one point
- 36:53Ryan: Yep.
- 36:54Jon: and in the background, in the background, you see the head
- 36:57working its way back to the body.
- 37:00Like they do.
- 37:01Ryan: Yep.
- 37:01Jon: There's a lot of, those gags going on.
- 37:05Kearns: Which is good.
- 37:05It gives the movie a nice little not, and not campy humor at
- 37:08all, like real funny stuff.
- 37:11Jon: Yeah.
- 37:12Kearns: I agree.
- 37:14Goofy stuff,
- 37:15Ryan: not forced.
- 37:16It's like, na, it's natural.
- 37:18And that's, I, I like that.
- 37:20It gives you
- 37:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:21Ryan: natural feel.
- 37:22Kearns: playing pranks.
- 37:22Kind of funny.
- 37:24Ryan: yeah.
- 37:25Kearns: the kind of laughs you're looking at there.
- 37:26It's pretty good stuff.
- 37:27And I, I just love that they don't skimp on the, the lore at all.
- 37:32They do build their own.
- 37:33Uh, so there's the idea that the ab attack was, imprisoned initially by a chieftain.
- 37:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:41Kearns: That chieftain may have been given the method of having of how to do it by,
- 37:46I don't know, some, some wizard of some sort, but some Merlin esque character.
- 37:52But the chieftain himself is the one who repeatedly defeated the attack until
- 37:57he finally imprisoned him in the C. And then we find out that of the lineage
- 38:02of that chieftain is Eugene and George.
- 38:06Jon: Eugene and Eugene and Francy.
- 38:09Francie is Eugene's dad.
- 38:11Ryan: Yep.
- 38:11Jon: Francy,
- 38:12Kearns: Eugene and
- 38:13Jon: sorry.
- 38:14Kearns: So there we go.
- 38:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:17Ryan: Charlie, I was thinking of sp the,
- 38:21Jon: Oh yeah.
- 38:22SP is a
- 38:22Ryan: and
- 38:23Jon: SP's a fun character.
- 38:24Yeah.
- 38:24Kearns: like 37 minutes ago.
- 38:26Ryan: Yeah, well, I said Charlie and I was like, yeah, that's Charlie.
- 38:29And then you're like, Charlie's the drunk.
- 38:30He gets like messed up with the, I was like, oh
- 38:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:33Ryan: the guy.
- 38:33All right.
- 38:34I got the names confused, but SP was hilarious through the whole thing, like
- 38:37with the one-liners, and he gave me like a John Goodman esque vibe after watching
- 38:44clips of Big Lebowski the other night.
- 38:45I was like, oh my God.
- 38:47Kearns: John Goodman from Roseanne is one of the funniest characters
- 38:51Ryan: Dan,
- 38:51Kearns: Dan.
- 38:52Yeah.
- 38:52Dan's character in Roseanne is, I mean, John Goodman's character, Dan
- 38:55and Roseanne is one of the funniest characters for just natural comedy.
- 39:00Ryan: Dan is John Goodman
- 39:02Kearns: When he punches, when he gets back from punching, the guy who beat up Jackie
- 39:06Ryan: the bucket of chicken
- 39:07Kearns: you need to put alcohol on that.
- 39:08And he is like, good idea.
- 39:09And he grabs a beer.
- 39:10Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:10Kearns: best.
- 39:11It's the
- 39:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:12So something more modern that, I'm reminded of watching the
- 39:16relationship with Eugene Claire.
- 39:18Sp and, um, William, while Williams with us, is they sort of feel
- 39:24a lot like the letter Kenny.
- 39:28Uh.
- 39:29Kearns: Yes.
- 39:29Jon: You guys like
- 39:31Ryan: Yes.
- 39:32Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:34Like they, really have that kind of dynamic a little bit too.
- 39:38Especially, the SP character.
- 39:40'cause he's just, I mean he even sort of looks like the dude.
- 39:43Ryan: Yeah, he does.
- 39:44Kearns: That's great.
- 39:45Do you know my wife for my birthday, my 40th birthday got him
- 39:48to do one of those messages for
- 39:50Ryan: That's awesome.
- 39:51Jon: That's awesome.
- 39:52Kearns: Yeah.
- 39:52So I
- 39:53Jon: That's awesome.
- 39:53Kearns: of it, of squirrely Dan,
- 39:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:55Kearns: like pseudo insulting
- 39:57Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:57Kearns: for 35 seconds.
- 39:59I was like, yay.
- 40:00Jon: So
- 40:01Kearns: It was really cool.
- 40:02Jon: I forget what it was for, I think it might have been Christmas one year
- 40:05Allison got me, um, a Nne Quigley cameo
- 40:09Ryan: Oh,
- 40:09Jon: and that was awesome.
- 40:11Yeah.
- 40:11Kearns: neat.
- 40:12Jon: awesome.
- 40:13Kearns: Super neat.
- 40:14Um, all right, back in the, we're so full of tangents tonight,
- 40:17but we're just full of fun.
- 40:18Full of
- 40:18Jon: Yeah.
- 40:19Fun tangents.
- 40:21Ryan: this is what this movie is though.
- 40:22It's fun, spontaneous, like I,
- 40:25Kearns: basically rolled through the ends.
- 40:27we identified Eugene as the only savior of the, of county hell,
- 40:32Ryan: yep.
- 40:32Jon: Yeah.
- 40:34Kearns: and he's the only one who could defeat the ABT attack.
- 40:37One cool thing about the ABT attack that you notice is as you continue
- 40:40to see it, it does its appearance, does change theories, boys,
- 40:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 40:45Kearns: it starts to look more human.
- 40:48Jon: Um, it's consuming and regenerating.
- 40:51the ATech is very much like the mummy Eho tip.
- 40:57Ryan: Okay.
- 41:00Kearns: So if you were to continue to feed blood to the cairn or continue to
- 41:05consume it, however you wanna think of it, how would the AB attack wind up?
- 41:10Would we get like a Dracula esque, super wise, stoic, humanoid
- 41:15vampire, or would it stay ghoulish?
- 41:18Jon: think so.
- 41:19I think, I think you'd get.
- 41:21I think you'd wind up with more of a primal killing machine with minus
- 41:26the debonair, just, just monster.
- 41:31Ryan: Okay.
- 41:31Kearns: they would've bypassed that too.
- 41:33you know, like the whole vampire hunter d if you're, a muggle
- 41:35on that, educate yourselves.
- 41:37Okay.
- 41:39It's important.
- 41:40It's important, but they, they go deep into how all the old vampires are so
- 41:45powerful, and basically all they really need to become more powerful is time.
- 41:49As time goes by, you just become exponentially more powerful.
- 41:52So the older, original kind of ones are super duper strong
- 41:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 41:57Kearns: So I think it's kind of like that, but without, like John
- 42:00said, without the civil civilized portion of it, it'll stay feral.
- 42:04Ryan: I don't know.
- 42:05And the reason why I say I don't know is because they say a line in the part
- 42:10about the Stoker's bar, how Stoker stole the idea of the Aber Curry Abta Ab ab,
- 42:17Kearns: Albuquerque,
- 42:18Ryan: the Albuquerque, as they, it's not the Albuquerque,
- 42:22Kearns: the AB attack,
- 42:23Ryan: the Abta, Bra Stoker stole the idea for the AB attack and then creates Dracula
- 42:29and that they're like, oh, they stole, he, they know Bra stole the idea and all that.
- 42:33Kearns: well, Stoker's Irish.
- 42:36Ryan: Oh,
- 42:37Kearns: that?
- 42:38Ryan: yeah,
- 42:40Kearns: Yeah.
- 42:41Ryan: yeah.
- 42:41Kearns: did you know,
- 42:43Ryan: No, I, I, yeah, I thought he was English.
- 42:45Kearns: stoker may have gotten the, the, uh, from this, this exact story
- 42:55because there are parallels here.
- 42:57Ryan: Oh, yeah.
- 42:58Yeah.
- 42:59That's why I figured like with the elegant, unless Graham just added
- 43:03that to make it a little more like, you know, a little more flavor.
- 43:07Kearns: combined this with Vlad, the Impaler
- 43:09Jon: Yeah.
- 43:10Kearns: Dracula.
- 43:11Jon: Yeah.
- 43:12Ryan: So
- 43:12Jon: And he, he made like a gothic e romance out of it too, like a romantic
- 43:18figure and that, like, I don't think the, A attack is gonna get to that.
- 43:23Ryan: Okay.
- 43:23Kearns: and more.
- 43:24I mean, no, ATU is closer to Tak than to Dracula, in my opinion.
- 43:28Ryan: True,
- 43:28Jon: Yeah.
- 43:29Yeah.
- 43:30I think so.
- 43:31Ryan: Okay.
- 43:31Kearns: Yeah.
- 43:32So it's interesting though to see kind of like another version because this is
- 43:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:38Kearns: of the same idea, but you're, you're just taking away the romance
- 43:41angle and the civility, like you said, that he's not a count of anything.
- 43:45He's guy
- 43:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:46Kearns: of rocks.
- 43:47Jon: Yep.
- 43:48Ryan: In the dirt,
- 43:49Kearns: that super old, but in the dirt.
- 43:54I think it's so funny though.
- 43:55We can't, we can't beat it.
- 43:56So let's just put big heavy rocks on it
- 44:00Jon: I mean, like, it, it, it's, it's inventive in that way.
- 44:05Like, we're not gonna be able to beat this thing.
- 44:07So how do we, how do we survive?
- 44:09Well, let's just put heavy stuff.
- 44:12Ryan: Just
- 44:12Jon: Every heavy thing.
- 44:15So cairns, how did you make it Through the end?
- 44:18With Francie in the leg.
- 44:22Kearns: to.
- 44:25I'm not too bad with stuff.
- 44:27It's, it's, I don't know what it is.
- 44:29It's gotta be like nichey
- 44:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:31Kearns: with self-harm and stuff.
- 44:33But actually just being like, take my leg and beat it to death with it, that's fine.
- 44:38Isn't too bad.
- 44:39I have a harder time with scalpels and things like that than I do, but
- 44:44I just, I don't dig body horror in general as like being the focal point.
- 44:48But if there's gore in a movie, there's gore in a movie, I'm
- 44:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:53Kearns: Somebody chewing on a butcher knife and doing all the
- 44:58other things that happened in that movie and that abomination of a
- 45:01Ryan: Chewing the table.
- 45:02Kearns: good.
- 45:03Yeah, that was bad
- 45:04Ryan: You know,
- 45:06Kearns: you're just sitting there, your whole body is like aching
- 45:08because your tense to the gills.
- 45:10That's not fun for me.
- 45:11I don't like that.
- 45:12So it didn't
- 45:14Ryan: I,
- 45:14Kearns: me too much.
- 45:14I thought it was a great use of the leg.
- 45:16Jon: Yeah, so I mean, so for the listeners, Francie Falls and his leg
- 45:23is destroyed and he can't run anymore.
- 45:27so Eugene, they decide that the best thing to do is use his leg as, as a spear and.
- 45:37Ryan: It's the one
- 45:38Jon: Yeah, so
- 45:39Ryan: one of the
- 45:39Jon: Eugene stabs the leg that he just ripped off of his father into the a attack
- 45:47and gets him down, and then immediately with the dirt and the rocks and
- 45:51Ryan: Yep.
- 45:53Jon: just enough.
- 45:55Kearns: Berries and
- 45:57Ryan: simple, creative
- 46:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:00Ryan: the point,
- 46:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:02Ryan: it an excellent horror comedy film.
- 46:05Jon: Yep.
- 46:06Ryan: It's
- 46:06Jon: Yep.
- 46:07Ryan: and it's folklore they're using and
- 46:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:12Ryan: Excellent.
- 46:13Jon: Yep.
- 46:14Ryan: it enough.
- 46:15Jon: Yep.
- 46:15And then you, you get, you get the little coda, Eugene is
- 46:18still adding rocks to the cairn
- 46:21Ryan: Yep.
- 46:21Jon: and you get Dream warriors.
- 46:24Ryan: Yes you do.
- 46:26Yes you
- 46:27Jon: anytime, you can put Dream Warriors in a movie, you'll make me happy.
- 46:30Kearns: I know that's one of your faves,
- 46:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:33Kearns: so that's the boys from county.
- 46:34Hell, we liked it.
- 46:37We give it stars of sorts.
- 46:39We're
- 46:39Jon: Well,
- 46:39Kearns: a review
- 46:41Jon: yeah, I have some reviews for you.
- 46:42I'm gonna do 'em in a, in opposite order this time before we give you ours.
- 46:46Let's see what some other people said.
- 46:48And I will say, um, we're talking critic score 82%, audience scores, 65%.
- 46:57Ryan: Really?
- 46:58Jon: But yeah,
- 47:00Ryan: That
- 47:00Jon: Rotten Tomatoes.
- 47:01Rotten tomatoes, there is not a one star review to be had.
- 47:05Ryan: See, that's
- 47:05Jon: So I had to go to, I had to go to one and a half.
- 47:09So here's a one and a half star review.
- 47:11Ryan: Okay.
- 47:12Jon: Uh oh.
- 47:13We've unleashed a monster run.
- 47:16Oh, I guess we have to fight.
- 47:19Fight.
- 47:20Oh, if we fight hard enough, we can defeat it.
- 47:23Isn't that grand?
- 47:25Not much to say about this.
- 47:26Rarely funny and never scary horror romp.
- 47:31Kearns: I would say that it's not a very scary movie, but it is definitely funny.
- 47:35Jon: Yeah, and I mean like the first half of that review, like,
- 47:40yeah, that's what a horror movie is.
- 47:44There's a monster.
- 47:46We have to run from it or we have to fight it.
- 47:49Like that's a horror movie.
- 47:51That's
- 47:52Ryan: It's always
- 47:55Jon: don't like that.
- 47:56Yeah, if you don't like that part, you're probably not a horror fan in general.
- 48:03Kearns: Not no friend of
- 48:04Ryan: No.
- 48:04Jon: No friend of her, no.
- 48:06Kearns: No,
- 48:07Ryan: Every horror film,
- 48:08Kearns: care for, you
- 48:10Ryan: uh, we're, we're not gonna beat that mean, but a little bit.
- 48:13But, you know, every horror film follows the same beats.
- 48:16They might change it somewhere.
- 48:18Love it.
- 48:19And if you hate it, it what?
- 48:21Go watch a
- 48:21Jon: Yeah.
- 48:22Ryan: watch a comedy.
- 48:22It's the same thing.
- 48:23Same beats
- 48:24Kearns: film doesn't follow the same beats,
- 48:26Ryan: Hard ice.
- 48:27Kearns: one in.
- 48:28Ryan: Oh, I was like, hard ice.
- 48:31Kearns: No, that's, that's just a interesting silly Billy movie V.
- 48:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 48:37Ryan: That was,
- 48:38Jon: Um,
- 48:39Kearns: let's hear
- 48:39Jon: I also found, I also found a couple five stars for
- 48:44you guys, so, um, five stars.
- 48:46Absolutely loved it.
- 48:49Like the tone and authenticity, ordinary characters in extraordinary
- 48:54situations with hilarious, heartfelt, and horrific results.
- 49:00Kearns: Well written
- 49:01Ryan: Very well, right.
- 49:02Kearns: I like quick
- 49:03Jon: Yeah,
- 49:03Kearns: a
- 49:04Jon: yeah, yeah.
- 49:04Kearns: long.
- 49:06Jon: No, no.
- 49:07And one other five star.
- 49:10Um, as close to an accurate Irish reaction to a blood thirsty vampire as
- 49:16you are going to get the right quantity of tongue in cheek twists and gore.
- 49:23Kearns: Yeah.
- 49:24Ryan: Yeah,
- 49:24Jon: I'm not,
- 49:25Kearns: Good.
- 49:27Jon: that's what the boys from county hell is to me, so,
- 49:30Kearns: what, our reviews are probably gonna be somewhere in
- 49:33between one and a half and five stars.
- 49:37Jon: yeah.
- 49:37Kearns: nickel, Benia nickel.
- 49:40Jon: Yeah.
- 49:40So who wants to start?
- 49:43Ryan: I'll go,
- 49:44Kearns: last time.
- 49:45Ryan: yeah, I'll go.
- 49:45I'm gonna give this a 3.75 out of five.
- 49:50Kearns: Oh, that's what I'm.
- 49:51Ryan: I it, listen, it, it beat my expectations.
- 49:55walked in, I, I hear horror comedy.
- 49:57The first thing I think of is Young Frankenstein in
- 50:00Dracula, dead and loving it.
- 50:02And a little repossessed.
- 50:03So I'm thinking about that.
- 50:04And then I see this, it's a straightforward film.
- 50:08The comedy is natural.
- 50:10It doesn't have like, it doesn't do anything crazy to change the wheel, but
- 50:14it brings out a few differences on the vampire lore that gets you interested.
- 50:20I feel, again, if they made it maybe a little longer, gave a little
- 50:23more exposition, know, stretched out the story, I'd give it a four.
- 50:29Like maybe make it like an hour, 45 minute film.
- 50:31Give it a little more like depths and stuff.
- 50:34But I think 3.75 fits perfectly.
- 50:36'cause you like the characters, the stories quick, hits every beat, and
- 50:42you want more after watching it.
- 50:45Kearns: Yeah,
- 50:48Jon: And current, you're 3, 7, 5.
- 50:51Yeah.
- 50:51Kearns: 5.
- 50:52I liked it.
- 50:52I thought it, I guess I'm not gonna go nearly as in depth as Ryan did, but
- 50:56uh, I think they took a really cool bit of folklore that's somewhat obscure,
- 51:00which is usually a winning recipe.
- 51:02And they didn't screw that up.
- 51:04kind of nailed it.
- 51:05They did that nice little dance between funny and, and actiony and.
- 51:10know, it's, it's not a scary movie.
- 51:13It's not meant to be a scary movie.
- 51:15It's no, it's
- 51:15Jon: No.
- 51:16Kearns: head,
- 51:17Jon: No.
- 51:18Kearns: it's, it's trying to be something else.
- 51:20It's closer for, to, from Dust Till Dawn than it
- 51:23Jon: Yeah.
- 51:23Kearns: anything like that's meant to terrify you.
- 51:25But it does.
- 51:27It's sha of the Dead esque
- 51:29Ryan: Yep.
- 51:29Kearns: it's great.
- 51:30And it's just great.
- 51:32I enjoyed it 3 7 5, because it's no Sha of the Dead, but
- 51:35Ryan: that's a five.
- 51:37Kearns: I mean, it's up there.
- 51:39I don't give out five so willy-nilly, but if there's a five to be had
- 51:43for a horror comedy, it might be Sha of the Dead, um, for sure.
- 51:47So yeah, 3, 7, 5.
- 51:48Now for the big man.
- 51:50Jon: I am gonna go a touch higher than you guys and I'm gonna go four.
- 51:55Ryan: Okay.
- 51:55Jon: I don't have any complaint about the length.
- 51:57I like it being right about an hour and a half.
- 52:00It's nice, it's tidy that way they hit the notes they need to hit,
- 52:05you know, it's got the laughs.
- 52:06It's got enough of the horror and the gore to satisfy that urge.
- 52:11It worked for me.
- 52:12It worked really well for me.
- 52:14Kearns: Nice.
- 52:15Ryan: Word.
- 52:15Kearns: Well done.
- 52:17Jon: Yeah.
- 52:19Kearns: Good old Irish time.
- 52:22Ryan: Oh, the
- 52:22Jon: I'll let you do that.
- 52:24Kearns: Day.
- 52:24Jon: I'll have one of those.
- 52:25So we'll let you do the accents.
- 52:28Kearns: Uh,
- 52:29Ryan: The Irish.
- 52:31Oh, what?
- 52:33Kearns: right, so let's see.
- 52:34I guess we gotta do top fives.
- 52:35I've got a top five tonight.
- 52:37Jon: Woo.
- 52:38Surprise.
- 52:38Top
- 52:39Kearns: me to go last or you want me to go first?
- 52:42Ryan: Hmm.
- 52:43Kearns: Hmm.
- 52:45Ryan: Ooh.
- 52:46let
- 52:46Jon: five is.
- 52:47Ryan: fast.
- 52:48Jon: Is Rourke gonna be on it?
- 52:50Ryan: Ooh.
- 52:50Is R
- 52:52Kearns: Well, like county ro No,
- 52:54Jon: Rourke.
- 52:55Kearns: I thought, because I like obscure myths.
- 52:58I do like obscure Celtic myths.
- 53:01I would give you guys my top five Celtic mythical creatures.
- 53:06Jon: I like it.
- 53:07Kearns: Do,
- 53:08Jon: Yeah, go for it.
- 53:09Ryan: Yeah, do it.
- 53:10Jon: Now that you've introduced it, you kind of have to go first,
- 53:12Kearns: do, do.
- 53:13Okay, so I'm gonna start with the Seie, which is like a crazy seal,
- 53:18which is just so Irish and it is folk glorious nature because like seal, but
- 53:23it sheds its skin to become a super hot lady who comes on land and then it
- 53:27drags you into the water to kill you.
- 53:29Ryan: okay.
- 53:30Kearns: awesome.
- 53:31Jon: it hasn't been kissed by a rose.
- 53:33Kearns: It hasn't been kissed by a rose, but it might have
- 53:35been kissed by Heidi Klum.
- 53:37Ryan: Oh,
- 53:39Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 53:41Next up, it's better than r Kelly who also had a hit single at the same time
- 53:47as, uh, kiss by A Rose was out by the way.
- 53:50Ryan: I can't sing that song.
- 53:51Yeah.
- 53:52Kearns: you can't.
- 53:53Ryan: No.
- 53:54Kearns: Kelpie Kelpie you guys have probably heard of, which is another
- 53:57water spirit, um, usually looks like a horse, but it tricks people into
- 54:01writing it drags them into the water to
- 54:04Ryan: Yeah.
- 54:05Kearns: One of your favorite authors may not have used a rendition of
- 54:07this in, in one of their novels.
- 54:09Who knows?
- 54:10Who knows?
- 54:11It's kind of like the bunyips that shows up in Beneath the Veil, I digress.
- 54:17the Pooka,
- 54:18Ryan: The,
- 54:18Kearns: mischievous, malicious shape-shifting fairy.
- 54:22It's called a Puka
- 54:23Ryan: Puka,
- 54:24Kearns: takes Yeah, puka.
- 54:25And it looks like another black horse with, glowing eyes and they tend
- 54:30to bring chaos and they're usually associated with a, a crappy harvest.
- 54:35Jon: And do they also make you wear those douchey shell necklaces?
- 54:39Kearns: Is that
- 54:40Ryan: Let
- 54:40Kearns: puka is like?
- 54:41A
- 54:41Jon: Shell, yeah.
- 54:43Kearns: oh, I didn't know that.
- 54:44didn't know they were called puka shells.
- 54:45That's kind of cool.
- 54:46And unfortunately this isn't a water spirit, so that's even funnier.
- 54:50It's even funnier.
- 54:51But you know, folklore, maybe polka,
- 54:55Ryan: Polka
- 54:56Kearns: you know, do the polka dancing.
- 54:58Now we're getting into the top two, so your guys are gonna recognize these.
- 55:00The Banes is obviously badass
- 55:03Ryan: Yep.
- 55:03Kearns: female spirit of a fairy.
- 55:04Usually it's a fairy woman of Faye, one of the good folk, but she's
- 55:08out at night and it announces the impending death of a family member
- 55:11or yourself in some cases with a shriek that you can hear from far off.
- 55:17If you hear it generally, you know, somebody that you love is
- 55:20going to die and it could be you.
- 55:23It was
- 55:23Jon: Right.
- 55:24Kearns: to get kids in before dark.
- 55:25That's what I like about this one.
- 55:27and the next one kind of is that really it's to get scare kids into coming
- 55:31home so that they don't get molested by the dude who lives down the street.
- 55:35Jon: That's reasonable.
- 55:36Kearns: It's real.
- 55:37I mean,
- 55:37Ryan: It is true.
- 55:38Kearns: for.
- 55:38You know,
- 55:38Jon: Yeah.
- 55:40Kearns: we'd rather tell you about a scary ghost fairy woman who's going to bring
- 55:43on Gram Graham's death and tell you that, you know, Carl is a little suspicious
- 55:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 55:50Kearns: and the sun's getting real low, big guy.
- 55:52So we gotta get home.
- 55:54Ryan: Carl.
- 55:56Kearns: Oh,
- 55:57Ryan: Carl,
- 55:58Kearns: I know
- 55:59Ryan: Carl.
- 55:59Kearns: said Carl.
- 56:00The name is Blacklisted.
- 56:02Ryan: Girl.
- 56:03Kearns: then Ryan.
- 56:04Uh, and John, actually, you guys may like this a lot because the doula hand,
- 56:09you've never heard of it, headless rider who gallops on a black horse, often
- 56:14holding his own severed head aloft.
- 56:16And the head you can see for Miles and speaks the name of the person
- 56:19whose death has come to claim, which is where we, you know,
- 56:22Americanized from, or we Americanized the Tale of Sleepy Hollow with.
- 56:26Ryan: Yep.
- 56:27Kearns: the headless horseman and Iba Crane.
- 56:31So those are my favorite.
- 56:32Five little Irish myths.
- 56:35Mythological creatures, not myth.
- 56:37Jon: I like.
- 56:38Ryan: The doula.
- 56:38Hym is no joke.
- 56:40My grandmother used to, my grandmother from Ireland used
- 56:42to, she used to talk about that.
- 56:44Oh my God.
- 56:45She used to talk about it.
- 56:46That's how they used to like go home.
- 56:49'cause they'd, oh, she'd be out riding the horse, the headless
- 56:53head and it's like, uh, like
- 56:55Kearns: get home.
- 56:56Ryan: you mean the headless horsemen?
- 56:57No, it's like, okay.
- 56:59All.
- 57:01But that was great.
- 57:03The Abdu,
- 57:07that's a scary site too.
- 57:09Ah, all right.
- 57:10So I don't know how I'm gonna, I don't know how I can follow up with this, but
- 57:14Kearns: Well yours is movies.
- 57:16It's different.
- 57:17Ryan: ki oh, I was gonna go with top five vampire movies.
- 57:19I told John and Jada was like, don't do that.
- 57:22Do something different.
- 57:24Go with vampires.
- 57:25I hate to love.
- 57:26So I went with top five vampires in films that are villains you
- 57:33should hate, but you gotta love.
- 57:34And to start off, I'm going with an honorable mention.
- 57:37I mentioned earlier Blade's really not a horror film, but I love Deacon Frost.
- 57:42Steven Dorf does a great job.
- 57:44The original character is actually much older in the comics.
- 57:48He's got a great beard, long white hair, and it's still familiar.
- 57:52He turns, blade's mom into a vampire while she's pregnant with Blade and, this one.
- 57:58Frost has a relationship with Blade's mom, so it's kind of like I'm kinda
- 58:02your stepfather in this point.
- 58:04But he's hip, he's cool.
- 58:06It's 98 and he does a good job.
- 58:08But to get into my list, I'm starting off with number five.
- 58:11We're starting off with Lestat The Vampire played by Tom Cruise, interview with the
- 58:15Vampire, 1994 Lestat from the beginning.
- 58:19He's manipulative.
- 58:21He's just evil.
- 58:22You know, he's a vampire who he just kills to kill.
- 58:27He needs the nourishment, he says, but he just has fun and you wanna hate
- 58:30him, but you kind of understand what process he has to go through to survive.
- 58:35And he's just doing it to survive.
- 58:38And yeah, he's, he's a jerk.
- 58:40But you hate to love him because everything he does to Brad
- 58:44Pitt, and even at the end to Tim Roth, oh, Christian Slater.
- 58:48Wow.
- 58:48Christian Slater, what he does to Christian Slater at the end.
- 58:51Guns and Roses in the background.
- 58:53I mean, led die.
- 58:54How can you not, how do you.
- 58:58You know, how do you not love him?
- 58:59You hate to love him, which goes to my number four recent sinners.
- 59:04We're going with the great Jack O'Connell.
- 59:06I love Jack.
- 59:07He's such a great actor.
- 59:08And he plays Remic, Irish immigrant, who's a vampire, who runs havoc and he's trying
- 59:15to turn everyone into vampires, join his own little clan, and it doesn't work out.
- 59:21But hate to love him because he's so menacing.
- 59:24He's taken out characters that you love in the film and he's got a great song.
- 59:29I,
- 59:29Jon: I mean, it kind of works.
- 59:32Ryan: well
- 59:32Jon: He's kind of successful.
- 59:34Ryan: it.
- 59:34Yes, but that's, it makes you hate to love him though.
- 59:37'cause
- 59:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 59:38Ryan: why are you doing this?
- 59:39You're like, all right.
- 59:40You know what, Jack O'Connell, he's just so good.
- 59:43You know, 28 years later, uh, 28 years later, the Bone Temple,
- 59:47you know, REMIC, he's coming out with hits and like the characters
- 59:52show Remic really shows leads to.
- 59:56My number three, David Keefer, Sutherland Boys 87.
- 1:00:03know those aren't, those are worms, Michael.
- 1:00:06are worms.
- 1:00:06I mean, I saw this film later on.
- 1:00:09Jada was like, you never seen it?
- 1:00:10And I was like, I never did.
- 1:00:11And we sat and we watched it and his, David is just, he's so cool.
- 1:00:19Like I feel like if I watched it younger, I might've been like more into that.
- 1:00:23Like the hairstyle gotten my piercing sooner.
- 1:00:26'cause he's just, he's a cool vampire.
- 1:00:28Like, you're like, he's so nasty.
- 1:00:30You know?
- 1:00:31He's like, this is what you wanna be Michael, and you wanna live forever.
- 1:00:34And he's got this pain because he's lost.
- 1:00:38Right.
- 1:00:38The whole idea of the Lost Boys, like Peter Pan and stuff,
- 1:00:42he's like this lost soul.
- 1:00:43And you feel for him because he just wants to live.
- 1:00:47And uh, David is just, there's so much I wish I saw the character
- 1:00:53sooner than I did later, which.
- 1:00:55It out not for this character.
- 1:00:57And that's Jerry Dandridge.
- 1:00:59Chris Sarandon Fright Night 85.
- 1:01:02I mean, go watch our episode on Fright Night.
- 1:01:04You'll hear our love even for Roddy McDowell, but Chris
- 1:01:07Sarandon, he's suave, he's classy.
- 1:01:11You know, he's an evil bastard and you still watch and you still love
- 1:01:15him because it's just the suaveness and he's just elegant and it's like
- 1:01:20he's a bad dude, but he's so cool.
- 1:01:22Which goes to my number one, my classic and that's Gary Oldman as
- 1:01:28Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula 92.
- 1:01:31The evolution he goes through and know, you watch like the Bella
- 1:01:35Lako, you watch Christopher Lee.
- 1:01:37you watch all those and you kind of get the idea.
- 1:01:40He's a monster.
- 1:01:41And Gary Oldman and from the direction of Francis Ford Coppola and actual,
- 1:01:45from the book of Bram Stoker's Dracula, you see that Dracula's a human and.
- 1:01:52You hate to love him because like he just wants to love, he wants to be
- 1:01:57human and the movie does a great job.
- 1:02:00But reading the book, I feel like Gary Oman does more with like, he
- 1:02:05takes more from the book he shows more of that emotion as it's shown in
- 1:02:09the book because it's all he wants.
- 1:02:11He just, he wants to love and he wants just to live like a peaceful life.
- 1:02:15I mean, that doesn't happen.
- 1:02:18gotta die.
- 1:02:18But these are the vampires I hate to love and hate 'em to love them.
- 1:02:25Jon: Nice.
- 1:02:29I like it.
- 1:02:30I like it.
- 1:02:30So
- 1:02:31Ryan: you.
- 1:02:33Jon: I,
- 1:02:33Ryan: It's from the heart.
- 1:02:34Jon: I stuck with Ireland and I went with, five Irish horror
- 1:02:39movies that I really enjoy.
- 1:02:43Yeah.
- 1:02:44So my number five is a movie called Boy Eats Girl.
- 1:02:50so the night he declares his love for his girlfriend and they miss connections
- 1:02:55on a date, the boy goes home where his mother accidentally hangs him.
- 1:03:01It's a long story.
- 1:03:02Watch the movie.
- 1:03:03It'll make some sense.
- 1:03:04Fortunately, mom can resurrect him.
- 1:03:07Kearns: Nice.
- 1:03:08Jon: Unfortunately, mom can only resurrect him as a zombie, and he comes
- 1:03:13back hungry and chomps on a classmate and starts a whole zombie epidemic.
- 1:03:21Ryan: Okay.
- 1:03:22Jon: we have a strangely notable casting in this one, in that, I
- 1:03:27don't even know who remembers her.
- 1:03:29She was like a, like a five second pop star, Samantha Mumba,
- 1:03:34Ryan: Oh.
- 1:03:35Jon: like nine, between nine, nine and 2001.
- 1:03:37She had one song that was kind of big and then she wound up in
- 1:03:42this movie a few years later.
- 1:03:43Ryan: what's
- 1:03:43Jon: I
- 1:03:44Ryan: song,
- 1:03:45Jon: can't remember.
- 1:03:45I can't even remember the song.
- 1:03:47It was, it was,
- 1:03:49Kearns: oh, I see her.
- 1:03:50I've seen her.
- 1:03:50I know who this is.
- 1:03:51Uh, let's see.
- 1:03:53Gotta tell you.
- 1:03:54Was the name of the song in 2000,
- 1:03:57Jon: yeah,
- 1:03:59Ryan: it probably was blasting everywhere
- 1:04:00Kearns: reached the top five in Ireland.
- 1:04:03Jon: she had a minute.
- 1:04:04She had a minute.
- 1:04:07But she was, she didn't break through here like some other people.
- 1:04:12but we'll go to number four now.
- 1:04:14when you bring mushrooms into a movie, you get an interesting movie.
- 1:04:17And this, one does, it's called Shrooms.
- 1:04:20Um,
- 1:04:21Ryan: I've heard of this film.
- 1:04:22Jon: so a group of friends run afoul of a killer while hunting for
- 1:04:26psilocybin mushrooms, making for one hell of a trip in this comedic car.
- 1:04:31It's a fun ride.
- 1:04:32It's,
- 1:04:32Kearns: it.
- 1:04:33Yeah.
- 1:04:35Jon: yep.
- 1:04:37Uh, number three, we're going to go a little more serious.
- 1:04:40it's a movie called Let Us Pray and Not Pray, but PREY.
- 1:04:48so it's Rachel's first night at a rundown police station
- 1:04:51that is holding a strange man.
- 1:04:53the strange man has the ability to take over minds and souls, and he does.
- 1:04:59And she's in for a long night.
- 1:05:03Ryan: Yeah, I've heard of this film.
- 1:05:06Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:07It's a good one.
- 1:05:08It's, yeah,
- 1:05:08Ryan: very
- 1:05:09Jon: it's, it is, it is.
- 1:05:12my number two is the most recent on this list.
- 1:05:15I actually watched this, about this time last year.
- 1:05:17It's a movie called Oddity.
- 1:05:21No.
- 1:05:22Uh, okay.
- 1:05:23Um.
- 1:05:24So after her sister's murder, a psychic travels to the husband's country home
- 1:05:30where he now lives with a new woman.
- 1:05:32She only wants to determine what actually happened to her sister,
- 1:05:36but finds a whole lot more.
- 1:05:39This has a lot of really good creepy atmosphere to it.
- 1:05:42there's some genuine scares there.
- 1:05:46It's quite, quite a movie.
- 1:05:49Ryan: I just saw the poster.
- 1:05:50I know what you're talking about too.
- 1:05:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:55And my number one, we're gonna stay in the vein of, yeah.
- 1:06:00We're gonna stay in the vein of boys from county.
- 1:06:02Hell, and it's a movie called Grabbers,
- 1:06:07A small Irish.
- 1:06:08Kearns: Who's
- 1:06:08Jon: Oh a, a small Irish town is under siege from long tentacle,
- 1:06:14alien blood suckers, and the only way to survive is to get drunk.
- 1:06:21Kearns: I mean, fair.
- 1:06:23Ryan: I am curious.
- 1:06:24Jon: Yeah, it's, I love this one.
- 1:06:27Grabbers is so much fun
- 1:06:31Ryan: I'm like.
- 1:06:31Jon: and so much fun.
- 1:06:33Kearns: Have, have you seen all these movies?
- 1:06:35Oh my God, John.
- 1:06:36Maybe it's 'cause I've watched like the Green Mile 47 times and instead of
- 1:06:40watching new movies, seen everything.
- 1:06:45It's wild.
- 1:06:46That's why he's
- 1:06:47Jon: I've seen a lot of stuff.
- 1:06:48Ryan: Yes.
- 1:06:51Kearns: You have, sir. All right, well
- 1:06:54Jon: Yeah, I've seen a lot.
- 1:06:56Ryan: was good.
- 1:06:56Kearns: Oddities is going to get watched by Mo.
- 1:06:59Maybe we'll have it on the list.
- 1:07:01Ryan: We should, should.
- 1:07:03Kearns: I
- 1:07:03Ryan: That creature looks creepy.
- 1:07:04Kearns: John does this, like
- 1:07:05Jon: I
- 1:07:05Kearns: John does this for the love of the game.
- 1:07:07He wants us to watch new movies.
- 1:07:11Jon: mm-hmm.
- 1:07:12I think I said it in our end of the year episode.
- 1:07:15That's probably my biggest joy in all this is exposing you guys
- 1:07:19to some of these movies that you wouldn't have seen on your own
- 1:07:25Ryan: Alligator.
- 1:07:26Jon: Lake Boys from County Hell
- 1:07:28Kearns: home.
- 1:07:28Jon: Alligator.
- 1:07:29Kearns: battery.
- 1:07:30I would've never watched these.
- 1:07:32Oh, I just
- 1:07:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:33Kearns: Alligator when I was a
- 1:07:34Ryan: The battery was good.
- 1:07:35Kearns: battery was a
- 1:07:36Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:07:37Kearns: Dude, some of this stuff that John's already
- 1:07:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:40Kearns: is wild.
- 1:07:40I hope it's same for the listeners out there, All right guys, it is time
- 1:07:44to wrap this up 'cause I'm about to turn it to a pumpkin, so thank you.
- 1:07:49That was county hell
- 1:07:52Ryan: Have a good one
- 1:07:54Kearns: later.
