Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jetworst fans, welcome in to Dove All Daily, prisoned by jingyag.com.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lua, thanks so much for being here Monday, March 23rd, and right now we are talking about tight ends in the NFL draft and specifically down in Bentley, we're going to touch on because I have not talked about him a lot on the channel and pretty much every time I do a video talking about a tight end, somebody brings up down in Bentley, we're talking about tight ends in general.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Reportedly, he has met with the Jaguars, so there seemingly is some interest there.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jags are clearly interested in adding to the tight end position in the draft.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they love Britain's strange and what he brings to the table.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: He was such a critical part of the Jaguars' offensive ascension over the back half of the season.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: And when he wasn't available during his little injury, injury, you know, time,
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's offense was not nearly as good.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now, his return also coincided with the return or the addition of Jacobi Meyer.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I think both of those things were major factors for the Jaguars, but the Jags, they released Johnny Month, which I did expect them to do.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: They retained Quentin Morris, which I did expect them to do.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: And they still have 100 long.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: So like the cupboard isn't bare-at-tied in by any stretch, but I do think the Jaguars should be looking to upgrade.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: the overall depth of the position and if they could get someone who, like, I think Quentin Morris is a fine tied end to, really, I do.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you could get someone that would make him your tied end three.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: that would be ideal, and it doesn't have to be immediately, but someone who has a little bit more overall receiving talent, I think, would be cool.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not a slide on Quentin Moore's at all.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think he's a fine tied into.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good blocker.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's a decent athlete at the tied-in position.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think people forget about that, like just because he came from Buffalo, cheaply,
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: you don't really realize, but he's a very good athlete at the position.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's not like some old dude right out there just running around, like Quentin Morris Loki just such a good signing for the Jaguar last year, and I know we're here to talk about down Bentley, but we got to talk about the Jaguar's actual group right now, and especially
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: with Dalham Bentley, because I watched Dalham Bentley at Utah and great year, right, productive, right.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't have any production before this year, like in 2024 he had two catches, but in 2025 he had 48 catches on 76 targets, 620 yards, six touchdowns, he had zero drops on 76 targets, which is awesome.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: He had,
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: a contested catch rate, not as impressive overall.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Only 26% of his contested catches was he able to come down with.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that I don't love at the tight end position.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: I want somebody who's gonna be able to kind of make those tight window contested grabs a little bit more frequently.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: I also didn't see someone who was like a detailed route runner.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: he's he's detailed against zone like he knows how to find the spots against zone coverage which is good and like if the spots closing how to move out of that spot and get up feel like I saw that multiple times where a window is closing and so he gets up field and presents a target for the quarterback all that good stuff he tested well at the combine you know
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: a bigger guy like six four two sixty he was playing at I think he dropped a little bit away for the combine to get down to like two fifty three and then he ran a four six two forty are dash I think he jumped like thirty five engines inches so like the testing numbers the production then twenty twenty five that stuff is there pretty well I think you can value that for sure
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the blocking, which is a critical aspect, it seems like the jag wars are not going to move off of that kind of plan with their tight ends like they want guys that can block.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: They absolutely do.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Bentley has that ability, you know, at.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: 250 plus pounds you see a good blocker.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see someone that was like destroying a lot of opponents in the blocking game, which is something I love to see.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, Britain strange, laying people out, burying them in the dirt.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a requirement for me.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like as long as you can block, you can block, but I do love that attitude and that violence that Britain strange brings that some of the other guys in this class also bring that I really like at the tight end position.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Or some of the guys are like, I view them as as good of blockers as down in Bentley, but they're not, or excuse me, they're more athletic overall than down in Bentley.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, on tape.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Again, down Bentley's testing numbers, very good.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he looks like as good of an athlete on tape as he did testing.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, ultimately for me, the question is, with down Bentley, when do you have to take him?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would imagine it would be on day three.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it's he gonna be better than Quentin Morris.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: or can't, does he have the potential to be better than Quentin Morris?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he has a very high likelihood of being at least a similar level of player as Quentin Morris in a lot of aspects and a lot of regards.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think he's going to be better than Quentin Morris?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he's going to be better than Hunter Long, which Hunter Long is like this high variance like
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: superstar the next play I could see like you know the most basic of plays not being made so just kind of high variance and obviously he's dealt with a lot of injuries throughout his career too so that's the thing with Hunter Long where you just I personally I don't feel like you get the consistency that you get and there's consistent effort I'm not saying that it's just like the consistent results the consistent execution I don't feel like I get that from a
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, hunter long as much as like Quentin Morris, even if the highs are higher, but, you know, I think Quentin Morris and Dalham Bentley are similar.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: overall.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of think that there's a lot of similarities there, which if you have two Quentin moorses at the Titan position, is that a bad thing behind Britain's strange?
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, where do you value that in the draft?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Do you value that in the third round?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's see where Quentin moorses at, or excuse me, Dalham Bentley is at on the consensus big board.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: which the consensus of Bigboard is not always right and it's just a tool you can utilize to see what, you know, the over 100 different draft analysts who participate or who are on the consensus, Bigboard, think useful tool in my opinion.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, on the consensus, Bigboard down in Bentley as at 180 overall, among all players in this draft, which would put him out, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, tight in, 14.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm drafting him in that range, I feel great about that.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I've seen down in Bentley go a lot earlier than that in a lot of mock drafts, too.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's the question for me.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Because when I look at this tight end class, obviously, I'm a huge fan of Kenny Oncidek.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Wars aren't getting him and let's say get into the first round somehow, which would be just wild to even attempt.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: But Sam Roush, he blocks like an offensive lineman, he also has soft hands,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: I would much prefer Samrash.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oscar Dump is an elite athlete who blocks very well.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Andries is a very good athlete and I know you can look at the testing numbers and say, well, as Jack Andries really that much better than athlete than Dalin Bentley and my opinion on tape.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a more fluid mover.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a better route runner.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: He also has much better hands.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at the contested catch rate, much better hands.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Marlin climbed to me.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Just, I know that the testing is similar.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the guy is a better athlete on the field.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think he moves different than Dow and Bentley on the field.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: at least in my opinion.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's where I'm at.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're getting down in Bentley, mid to late, day three, and expecting him to come in and compete for Titan 2 and probably beat out Hunter long, that's a fair expectation.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you can definitely expect him to immediately be Titan 2, because I think his
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Quentin Morris is similar.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: I would want a little more upside personally.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe some of the people who have commented about him, view with him with a lot more upside.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I just think he looks like a good backup tight end in the NFL.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Again, let me know what y'all think in the comment section below.
