- 9:52And I'll guess this evening is Jill.
- 9:54Wignall chief executive at the Peterborough.
- 9:57United Foundation, Jill, welcome to the show.
- 10:00Relax and a little bit nervous. But yeah.
- 10:04Tell us about the Peachtree 90 foundation and who they are and
- 10:07what they do. Okay, good evening.
- 10:09Thank you for having me on and the foundation was formed in
- 10:122009 and we are the charitable arm of the football club.
- 10:17We are out in the community, trying to do good work, whether
- 10:21that be football-related yoga Health well-being.
- 10:26But we have no funding from the football club.
- 10:29So we're always looking for a sponsor Is and support generally
- 10:32and actually compare the market or one of our big sponsors
- 10:37fantastic for us to be able to get out meet more new people.
- 10:41We have lots of free sessions for young people.
- 10:44Our aim is to be all inclusive, so whether that be disabilities
- 10:50or inclusive, encouraging, more girls football.
- 10:54And we work with all age groups. Now varying from 8 to 103 really
- 11:00and And what's your role as I suppose chief executive said off
- 11:03air that you're sort of behind the scenes and then you know all
- 11:06the coaches and staff to all the great work.
- 11:08But how do you sort of knit that together and gel that all
- 11:11together? Okay, so for me, it's just
- 11:13making sure that we're working with the right people, we are
- 11:16meeting our charitable aims, obviously, overseeing the
- 11:19finance and just making sure that we are making enough
- 11:24contact. I liaise with Premier Li
- 11:27charitable fund, who provide funding For various projects and
- 11:33you just pulling that all together in the background and
- 11:36meeting new people, Jen Alaska, health, and well-being manager
- 11:40is also out there making lots of contacts and working within your
- 11:44chest. Now, and she's lucky she's to it
- 11:46tonight, doesn't she? Yeah I'm sure we'll catch up
- 11:50with her at some point as well and get her on.
- 11:53So there's sort of three functions of the foundation.
- 11:57So to speak, is how I understand it to an elaborate on some of
- 12:00the In the scholarship and then the work women and girls section
- 12:03then from there. Okay?
- 12:04So the scholarship is, was set up eight years ago and we have a
- 12:08partnership with named Park Academy, and it's a project
- 12:13aimed at sixth form. Students, who may be coming
- 12:17disengaged with school? So they have the training with
- 12:21the foundation. I'll coaches are training them
- 12:25during the week, they have it built into their timetable and
- 12:28their education is provided by the school.
- 12:30Obviously we're on the same site and then on Wednesdays, they
- 12:34play matches with other AFL clubs.
- 12:38We have two boys teams in a girls team and you know, great
- 12:41way to keep young people engaged in education but actually having
- 12:45that football element as well and the educational side is just
- 12:51as important. I guess as the football side and
- 12:53that's what you try to get across, to those children that
- 12:56are taking part. Yeah.
- 12:57Totally, you know, and actually if their attendance is poor at
- 12:59school, Or if they get behind with work you know they have to
- 13:03miss training or matches to make sure that they keep on top of
- 13:07everything and it does just encourage them to come out with
- 13:12a good education but have enjoyed their football at the
- 13:14same time. I guess we know football and the
- 13:18numbers of children that take part in the game suddenly not
- 13:21everybody's going to make it to a professional level and play
- 13:25for the club of that their choice.
- 13:26So that educational side is just as important and That pathway to
- 13:32prop still working sport or football in in their adult life.
- 13:35Yeah. And that's something we do.
- 13:37As part of that, we talk to them about careers in football, about
- 13:41scholarships in America, just opportunities that are available
- 13:45to them for when they finish their 64.
- 13:48Did I do you get many children, who Dubuque obviously come
- 13:51through the foundation, then go on to have a crew in football
- 13:53and whatever Club. I mean, obviously P 390.
- 13:56There's a club will be scouting. The local are anyway for, for
- 13:58the, for their sort of professional level teams, but
- 14:00But is there a chance that, you know, one slips to the net?
- 14:02And then they come through the foundation and they discover
- 14:04that way. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:05Occasionally you know, we have Elite sessions on a Friday night
- 14:10that are run by Bruno Porfirio and he works closely with the
- 14:13Academy's. So if there's boys who are with
- 14:16us that they think could potentially be Academy standard
- 14:21and then they'll go in for trials with the academy and and
- 14:24you know, some have been successful.
- 14:26Yeah, that's really encouraging to hear that is definitely
- 14:28because it just shows that pathway that is Are as well.
- 14:31You know, there's no pressure, I guess within scholarship
- 14:33initially, but if they've got that ability and they're doing
- 14:36well educationally as well, they've got the opportunity to
- 14:39move on to the academy from there.
- 14:40Absolutely. I mean, what everything we do is
- 14:42about participation. So, being open to everybody
- 14:46coming along enjoying it. And you know, yet, if there's
- 14:49somebody that has got that Talent then, you know, our
- 14:52coaches will pick that up and referring them to the academy.
- 14:56It's rare, you know, it's not an everyday occurrence, but Some of
- 15:00the boys on the scholarship, do get the opportunity to train
- 15:05with youth team, which is fantastic.
- 15:08And get specially the goalkeepers that to go and do
- 15:10that training and it's very aspirational as well, isn't it
- 15:13as well as to the levels they could reach or just that having
- 15:15that discipline as you are saying as well from an
- 15:18educational perspective totally and and Bruno would give them
- 15:21bit guidance about if they're playing men's football in
- 15:24non-league and what sort of level they should be looking at
- 15:28and and just giving them that support.
- 15:30Gates that all-round caring about them as people.
- 15:34How many years have you been at the foundation?
- 15:35Now Joe I joined originally in 2012 with the football club as
- 15:42volunteer and then came in full-time employment in 2017,
- 15:47okay? And so you've certainly seen it
- 15:49develop, then over the years and been an integral part of that
- 15:51with the coaches and the the network of support you've got
- 15:54within the foundation and definitely, it's a fantastic
- 15:56place to work. It's great being involved with
- 15:58football club, that that Linked with them is fantastic and they
- 16:03give us so much support, you know, feel adlam, obviously
- 16:07giving us access to footballers. You know, we have football has
- 16:09come to our holiday camps so it's that power of the badge and
- 16:15what we build within the community really.
- 16:17And that's what you looking to grow.
- 16:19I guess your footprint within the community to make sure that
- 16:22you're accessing as many children and young adults as
- 16:25possible to help them on their their career paths and
- 16:27development. Yeah definitely.
- 16:29So as I said to you I've got the Premier League, charitable fund,
- 16:34funded free sessions there. So there on Tuesday to Friday
- 16:39and young people can just turn up and play, they're all on our
- 16:43website. And, and the idea is for those,
- 16:48they're free, turn up, enjoy it, they'll be coaches, they're
- 16:52qualified coaches, they'll give them guidance, but it's just
- 16:55meant to be enjoyable. Yeah, fun fun times.
- 16:57He has children as well and, you know, keep him fit and healthy.
- 17:00Yeah, the website for a note is the Posh foundation.com where
- 17:04you can find out more about what Jill's talking about this
- 17:07evening so far, and all the opportunities that are available
- 17:10to you, perhaps as a coach as well.
- 17:12Because you're always looking for coaches as well.
- 17:14We are always looking for coaches there seems to be a lot.
- 17:18Yes, definitely. And we take all sorts so it can
- 17:21be. You might want to come in as a
- 17:22volunteer and see what it looks like.
- 17:25We do part-time coaches, it could be an hour a week, even
- 17:30we. Ten time only coaches.
- 17:32So there's lots of opportunities for males females, you know,
- 17:36wherever you are in your journey and and we support them getting
- 17:40those qualifications and going through their own development.
- 17:44And in terms of when the foundation was formed itself, is
- 17:46it something that other clubs do as well?
- 17:48Is it well known that other Football League clubs have
- 17:52foundations as part of the community based activities?
- 17:55Yeah, every football club will have a foundation and I will do
- 18:00an amazing work in their, in their areas.
- 18:04Obviously Premier League clubs have got much bigger foundations
- 18:07and much faster from these foundations, but we're all doing
- 18:11very similar projects. As I say, is just the scale that
- 18:14they will be on. Ya might sound like a strange
- 18:17question, but you actually like football.
- 18:19How did you get into football as well?
- 18:21Yes, I do actually like football.
- 18:25My mom used to work on a Saturday.
- 18:27My dad had two young children to look after.
- 18:29So what did he do? But it them to football matches.
- 18:32Okay? So I grew up with that.
- 18:33Yeah. Then met my husband who just
- 18:36played in non-league local football and it's just been a
- 18:40big part of my life ever since. Yeah, who did you go and see?
- 18:43Was it sort of Saturday afternoon football or was it
- 18:44League football with my dad? It was League football took me
- 18:47to chillingham Castle down in Kent, okay?
- 18:49So that was my sort of Journey and I don't think the Stadium's
- 18:53changed an awful lot of times over the years, I can assure
- 18:59you. It's probably Yeah, it probably
- 19:01hasn't to be honest. But yeah.
- 19:03Okay. Do you still follow their
- 19:04results and they've picked up? Haven't they still do?
- 19:06Look, you just can't have it in my family.
- 19:08All still live that way and I moved here when I met my
- 19:11husband, obviously support Posh. Now, it's a here and you know,
- 19:17that's also fantastic with based on the training ground.
- 19:21You get over your being impressed by footballers being
- 19:24around you because it's just part of your everyday life.
- 19:26But, you know, it's good being in the same area as them and
- 19:30having that access for using them in the Holland nursing
- 19:34work. Somewhat yeah, exactly.
- 19:36And actually the, the ladies players come and do part of that
- 19:39as well, so we sort of have under 20 ones, ladies players,
- 19:43and the First Tee, not forgetting Peterborough now, and
- 19:47obviously of Peterborough, he's actually probably more Pillar
- 19:51with young children, holiday counts than the players
- 19:54identity, isn't it? It's, you know, where you go and
- 19:56see Peterborough with the school assemblies that are run through
- 19:58the Bobby copying foundation. And then they seem at those
- 20:01camps, for example, they then seem on Match days and that sort
- 20:05of joined up nature of what you. It's not just the foundation, as
- 20:09a sole entity, you're working very closely with the football
- 20:12club. Yeah, we are.
- 20:13And actually peterborough's brilliant in terms of when he
- 20:17comes along and in the kids love him.
- 20:19Absolutely. Love Emily.
- 20:20You know? So he puts his full full
- 20:23entertainment into those. Yeah, he's not got you doing
- 20:26anything strange lately? Not know yet?
- 20:32Willing, volunteer, shall we say, in terms of the, the short
- 20:37term and sort of medium and long-term goals you're doing the
- 20:41coaching at the moment, you've got the camps that take place.
- 20:44What's the longer term? I suppose, what you trying to
- 20:47reach or achieve and move on from there?
- 20:50So as the Is reaching more people in, in our City and
- 20:54surrounding areas, really. And that can be in any way we go
- 20:57into schools, we actually go out to a lot of schools out wisbeach
- 21:01but developing that health and well-being inside.
- 21:05There's a lot of people struggling with isolation after
- 21:08covid, Jenna's got the yoga set up for people, which is aimed at
- 21:14people with muscular issues arthritis, and they come along
- 21:19its held at the stadium. And we've heard some really good
- 21:22stories back of what difference that's made to People's Health.
- 21:26So there's a big one for us mental health, physical health,
- 21:31you know, let's try and support everybody all ages.
- 21:33Now, as I say we run the extra time hubs where the Elder
- 21:37generation come in and it's filmed round.
- 21:41What? They'd like to do.
- 21:42So they've done a variety of things.
- 21:44They did, I sugar icing crafts that Christmas they've had
- 21:47crochet. They found a book readings,
- 21:51Shouldn't say yeah, it's very much based on what they want to
- 21:53do common interest of football perhaps but also the skills in
- 21:57opportunities to learn and develop what they'd like to do.
- 21:59Yeah. Absolutely.
- 22:00And as I say it's but all based at the stadium.
- 22:02It's quite a nice place to be and just developing friendships,
- 22:07a lot of them didn't know each other.
- 22:09They've now meeting up outside of the sessions so, yeah, lovely
- 22:14to see that development. One of our lovely apprentices
- 22:18has taken a man to football who hadn't been He's suffers with
- 22:22dementia so she met him at the gate, took him into him to his
- 22:26seat, got him a coffee at halftime and just generally
- 22:30taken care. And now he's got back into that
- 22:32coming to football again there. And those are the sort of things
- 22:35we want to shout about as well. That it's not just about the
- 22:38children, the foundation supports.
- 22:40It's the wider population of this city in this region itself.
- 22:43Yeah. And and genuine Emily have been
- 22:45going into Care Homes to do chair based exercises.
- 22:49They go to the dementias. Enter and just trying to make
- 22:53people's lives a bit better. Really brilliant.
- 22:55If I'm, I'll just say you mention was going far as we
- 22:58speak, for example, to, to sort of into the communities are, and
- 23:01I think Peterborough, United, and Peter is slightly fortunate
- 23:04in the sense that the clubs that are closest to us other
- 23:07professional clubs, you got Milton Keynes, or Lester, or
- 23:09Norwich still a reasonable about distance away, aren't they?
- 23:12So we've got quite a good area to cover, commute different
- 23:15types of communities and, and the surrounding towns, and
- 23:17villages we do and well, and we do actually work closely with
- 23:20Cambridge United that rivalry doesn't
- 23:33Vicki. Who's obviously just taken over
- 23:35as CEO there her. And I are working closely
- 23:38together to see what well-being projects we can work on together
- 23:42so that it's across the whole County, really brilliant stuff.
- 23:45Right was going to take another short break there and we've had
- 23:48half an hour of the show already and we'll be back with Jill.

- 26:30Welcome back to PCR sportswear here.
- 26:32Every Friday 6:54 bringing you and discussing the local
- 26:36highlights and low lights of the local sporting scene.
- 26:39We've just been chatting to Jill off are actually just about her
- 26:43pronounciations of for those listeners who are listening
- 26:47avidly a few minutes ago, the sort of Peterborough Northampton
- 26:52divided as to what we call the Nina and the nen and and Jill
- 26:55called it didn't. Then I confess and we've
- 27:03corrected I don't worry is the Neen when she's this side of the
- 27:05river that's for sure. As I'm sure many of our
- 27:09listeners would have picked up on that from them,
- 27:11northamptonshire Cambridgeshire divide there as well and
- 27:14certainly comes out at Derby day as well.
- 27:17But she also has been telling us about the foundation itself at
- 27:20Peterborough United. The great work that they do in
- 27:22the local community and not just within p.
- 27:25But stretching further out into the fens as well and going out
- 27:29as far as Stanford and kingscliff in those areas as
- 27:31well at the moment. Yes, we definitely do.
- 27:34We go into some of the schools in Stamford.
- 27:36We also have holiday camp, site, kingscliff, some of the time,
- 27:39and there's some coming up in the summer at Stanford.
- 27:43Yeah, we very try to get out further reach different people
- 27:49although you know, our main focus is the city and the
- 27:51immediate surrounding area. Yeah.
- 27:54Have you seen it a go? Growth in any aspect of the work
- 27:57that you've done over the last few years is something that's,
- 27:59you know, taken off bigger and better as so to speak or just go
- 28:04all grown over the years. So, ladies football for example,
- 28:07girls football girls, football massively.
- 28:09So Georgia. Clark runs our girls sessions
- 28:13and overseas and that since covid has just boomed, and we
- 28:18had over 250 girls sign up for trials last year, obviously the
- 28:23Fargodome anywhere near It's just huge.
- 28:28We've got waiting lists to attract end those development
- 28:31sessions and yeah it's amazing to see is good to see those
- 28:36girls all out there and flying the flag for us wonder if I'm
- 28:44obviously on the one the girls side of it.
- 28:46As you mentioned there there has been a bit of a reorg in terms
- 28:48of what the pathway is now within the club, isn't it?
- 28:50Because it wasn't, was it under the foundation?
- 28:52For now. It's and as part of the actual
- 28:54women's, Club. Yes, the ladies side we used to
- 28:58fall into the foundation and then when they got promoted
- 29:02there were a whole lot more requirements.
- 29:04And the club wanted to see that push forward, we couldn't have
- 29:08funded what they need and then they moved into the club which,
- 29:12you know, and Bobby overseeing Bobby copying and they're doing
- 29:16an amazing job, obviously. Then they got the license for
- 29:19the etc' for the girls. So that sort of runs alongside
- 29:24and Actually girls from both a leading to the pathway for the
- 29:28scholarship and then the ladies football as well.
- 29:32But yeah, amazing setup. Now of female football and that
- 29:36helps towards that sort of demand that you just spoke
- 29:38about. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 29:40But Georgia while she oversees our women and girls hide, she
- 29:44also coaches in the ATC so you know, that fat nice link there.
- 29:50Yeah, that relationship is built than, isn't it between those
- 29:52players? And then that pathway is clear
- 29:54to see a As well for those individuals who are definitely
- 29:57isn't you know, obviously the ladies have done really well and
- 29:59Bobby's worked really hard about getting sponsorships for them so
- 30:04that's really good to say. Yeah, it's certainly grown and
- 30:06they're doing a great job up a belongs in born as well as now,
- 30:08got home ground at, they can call their own as well to help
- 30:12develop that game frustrating result.
- 30:15Last night, I think's call it losing 2-1 to Northampton but
- 30:19they've had a great run of form up until then and a great
- 30:21running the cup as well at that point and hopefully some of
- 30:24those That coming through the foundation, going through,
- 30:27steadily, till its end up with, then be going on to first team
- 30:29as well. Yeah.
- 30:30And there's maybe we'll use to call the reserves.
- 30:32Is actually now an under-23 setup.
- 30:35So is to develop the younger players and feed them into the
- 30:38first team. Yeah.
- 30:40And bit around their welfare as well.
- 30:42Brilliant stuff. Any other aspects that you've
- 30:46seen Grown the foundation. You've done a lot of work, not
- 30:49just with football, but out in the community as well.
- 30:51Oh yeah. Sort of over covid.
- 30:53We tackled the The food Parcels delivery, which was interesting
- 30:59in to say the least, it's great to say.
- 31:00Yeah. We'll all right.
- 31:01We'll do food. Parcels will get that.
- 31:04And actually, we worked really closely with Morrison's and they
- 31:06gave us. Lots of support around that when
- 31:08you go to collect the food and you suddenly realize how much
- 31:11there is, and then you've got to pack it up and deliver it, the
- 31:15the logistics around it, one simple, and we did that again,
- 31:19at Christmas 2021. And that was just, again, a big
- 31:25But we managed to get out and help people.
- 31:28We had obviously collections in schools who would point us to
- 31:32families, that might be struggling, whether that be in
- 31:35normal circumstances or because of the covid situation.
- 31:39So, it was great to know. We were reaching those, we often
- 31:42had Parcels leftover and would put out on our social media
- 31:45that, you know, if anyone's in need, let us know and we'll,
- 31:47we'll get to you. We any leftover food, we shared
- 31:51with millfield fridge, really? So you know, those These ships
- 31:55were vital at that time. Yeah.
- 31:56So it's more than football effect.
- 31:58Yeah, it's developed from there. Over the what 14 years were
- 32:03approaching. Now in terms of the, when the
- 32:06formation was formed in 9 2009. So plans to develop that you've
- 32:12obviously got the yogurt of walking football as well.
- 32:15So, branching out a little bit there as well.
- 32:17Yeah, and we've just found out today that we've got funding for
- 32:21a weight loss program, which will obviously be Around
- 32:25nutrition and exercise for adults and hopefully based in
- 32:30the stadium itself and you might have seen it in other clubs,
- 32:34where they use the steps in the stadium as part of their
- 32:37exercise routine. So rather than you have to pay
- 32:40to go and join a gym, it will be a project where you can come
- 32:45along, do some exercise, but but it's not going to be some costly
- 32:50plan. It's proven to be more
- 32:52successful than Slimming World. And Weight Watchers.
- 32:56So, you know, we're really excited about that.
- 32:58And it's just is that social interaction is and mental
- 33:01well-being, which then has a knock-on effect to your physical
- 33:04health as well and working in tandem there it totally is, you
- 33:07know, we see in that all the time with these projects, we run
- 33:10a lot of loneliness. A lot of people became isolated
- 33:13at during covid and meeting people again and making new
- 33:17friends and just helping their mental well-being.
- 33:20Yeah, and it's plenty of steps that posture as well at London,
- 33:23right? It may not be, the biggest is
- 33:26not the smallest obviously but there's opportunities.
- 33:27There isn't there to use the main stand, for example, or the
- 33:30family stand to, you know, come up with exercises or, you know,
- 33:35number of steps to climb in it, you know, while you're while
- 33:37you're with them, there are and it will be about educating
- 33:39people about healthy eating but in a practical way so that, you
- 33:43know, when they're finished the plan, they can carry on doing
- 33:46that and it and it's got to be so that people can manage that
- 33:50financially. You know, it's no good, giving
- 33:52people complicated recipes. Who may not cook or may not be
- 33:57able to afford those things that, you know, it's got to be
- 34:00reasonable, especially in these days where we're suffering with
- 34:03the cost of living crisis, and from a mental health, well-being
- 34:07perspective, that supports that I am as well as part of the
- 34:10foundation. Yes, totally.
- 34:12As I say everything we're doing now, is all an art charitable
- 34:15objectives are about health exercise.
- 34:19Wellbeing for people, whether it's physical mental.
- 34:22Yeah, cracking stuff. So you've got popular camps as
- 34:27well for children. Especially just a quick mention
- 34:32for them as well in terms of the popularity I guess as well and
- 34:35the sorts of sessions that you put on.
- 34:37Okay. So obviously there's the holiday
- 34:38camps. So they are for children aged 6
- 34:42to 11 really we run them once a week over the holidays in the
- 34:48actually at the ground in the dome and they actually sell out
- 34:52so quickly. And in fact our Easter ones at
- 34:54the Dome, Already sold out, but we do run them at various places
- 34:58in the city and at Hampton and that name Valley Community
- 35:02Center. And then as well, we obviously
- 35:04run Development Centers and Elite groups for the more
- 35:08talented players that are based at the training ground and that
- 35:12takes a large number of coaches. How many coaches do you have on
- 35:15your books? I guess in terms of the, you
- 35:17know, the the structure of the foundation.
- 35:19So there's 12 full-time coaches. We then have Probably another
- 35:26eight or nine part-time who get involved in various areas.
- 35:30We have young men who are on a doing a degree in coaching and
- 35:38come and get that practical experience with our young
- 35:41people. Yeah.
- 35:42And that works hand-in-hand again, you're not just looking
- 35:45after the children that you coaching but offers them a
- 35:48practical hands-on experience, as well as part of their
- 35:50development in whatever Journey they would like to go on
- 35:52definitely and the hope is that you know, as they come through
- 35:54the Those roles within the foundation for them as full-time
- 35:59members of Staff. Yeah.
- 36:01And as we grow, that will become more and more.
- 36:03So. Yeah.
- 36:03And you'll need more and more coaches.
- 36:05Yes to meet those needs and demands there as well.
- 36:07There are shorted. A coach is out there if I'm
- 36:10home. He mentioned obviously early in
- 36:12the show that you made it. Absolutely.
- 36:13The Petri guy typical don't give you financial support but they
- 36:16obviously but you know who else you mentioned?
- 36:17Obviously use of the Dome training facilities.
- 36:19Things like that. Do coaches from Peach United,
- 36:22participate in any other the sessions that you have.
- 36:24Or is it? Coaches are specifically for the
- 36:27foundation. Now it's coaches are
- 36:28specifically for the foundation but you know the club we don't
- 36:32pay rent on our accommodation at the club or utilities or
- 36:35anything like that. So as I say was, they don't give
- 36:38us hard cash. We get in fights or anything.
- 36:42Yeah, Joe didn't the photographer photographed by him
- 36:51on a, on a Tuesday, evening or a Saturday.
- 36:54Yeah, yeah. The device loveliest, man them
- 36:57is amazing and he comes along to our holiday clubs.
- 37:00He comes along to the scholarship games and yeah, it
- 37:03gets photographs for people we're working with Mark Kerr,
- 37:07the new marketing guy, he's going to sort out a demo video
- 37:13for what we're doing so we can send that out and people can see
- 37:16a bit more about what we're about.
- 37:18Yeah, cracking stuff. So it's great that club of
- 37:20getting involved in that way. You've mentioned the players
- 37:22attend those holiday camps as well.
- 37:24Yes. Yes, they they come along have
- 37:27to be careful. You don't get too involved.
- 37:28We don't want anyone getting injured impressed by that feels
- 37:33there to oversee and make sure that doesn't happen and then
- 37:36Peterborough is? Well the Masquerade.
- 37:38Yeah as I say he's brilliant. Yeah, the kids love him.
- 37:42Absolutely love him cracking stood, right?
- 37:44Which can take another short break here.
- 37:45We're rapidly running out of time.
- 37:46It's already 6:45 here on this Friday evening.
- 37:49We've got Jill Wagner here from the Peterborough United

- 40:07evening. If you have missed any of the
- 40:09show this evening, you can listen back to us on.
- 40:11Pc r FM, .co.uk or download the PCR FM app.
- 40:17So if you have missed anything of the show this evening and
- 40:20we've had Jill wignall on with us from the Peterborough United
- 40:23Foundation, she's the chief executive there, she's been
- 40:26telling us all about the great work.
- 40:28The, the foundation does not just locally within the city,
- 40:31but still within our region as well.
- 40:33Giving access to as many people as possible.
- 40:36Whether it be through football, mental well-being, yoga walking,
- 40:40football sessions and helping in the community, the best way they
- 40:44can. As a foundation itself, Jill in
- 40:48terms of how the foundation moves forward.
- 40:51What are you looking to achieve? Perhaps over the next say, two,
- 40:55three, four years. Since you have that sort of
- 40:57objectives and goals, Set out to do and we're currently as you
- 41:01working on a new strategy, which will start from September, but a
- 41:05lot of that is around health and working with the NHS to trying
- 41:09to reduce the appointments people need.
- 41:12And we all know is so difficult to get in hospitals and doctors.
- 41:17So the more we can do around people's well-being, hopefully
- 41:21that tries to reduce those slightly, but obviously we want
- 41:24to grow all our projects, we want to reach more people in the
- 41:27city. Certainly looking at new things
- 41:29to be involved with and obviously constantly looking for
- 41:34new staff coaches sponsors, if anyone out there is interested.
- 41:40So those coaches are needed and the staff are needed to help you
- 41:43meet those aims and objectives as well.
- 41:45Definitely. And and in terms of sponsors,
- 41:49whilst we always need new ones. We have got a number of sponsors
- 41:52who got involved with our girls groups this year so that parents
- 41:57didn't have to buy training. Oops, that they provided by the
- 42:00sponsors. And we really appreciate that
- 42:03obviously. Because then we just making it
- 42:05more inclusive for everybody. You know, it's not expensive to
- 42:09come and do some of these things.
- 42:10Yeah. And I suppose that's an
- 42:13objective of yours as well, in terms of reaching as many people
- 42:15as possible, but ensuring that you've got that financial
- 42:17support, which works two ways as well, you know, gives the
- 42:21company or the individual that positive publicity, but also has
- 42:26been the positive effect of helping as many people Now that
- 42:28you're looking to do as well. Yeah, exactly.
- 42:30And as I say we can't thank people enough, who support, what
- 42:33we do and want to be involved. As I say we have volunteers.
- 42:37There's a couple sessions going on tonight at the training
- 42:41ground and there's some young volunteers there who want to go
- 42:44on and develop to be coaches and that's important for us.
- 42:47Let's let's get them on that pathway now.
- 42:50And they are working with the qualified coaches as so to speak
- 42:53as well, to make sure that they are learning the right way and a
- 42:58spy To be them one day. Absolutely.
- 43:00You know, we've got Bruno, who's an a license coach.
- 43:02We've got number of be license coaches and they'll be working
- 43:05alongside those and developing their skills, and, and how you
- 43:10work with young people. It's not just the coaching, it's
- 43:13how you interact with young people.
- 43:15That's important, you know, and making sure that they're the
- 43:19safeguarding elements correct as well.
- 43:20Yeah, that's huge. Part of it, isn't it?
- 43:22Of the number of children that you're seeing on a daily basis,
- 43:25especially at those camps, for example, the the parents and
- 43:29Guardians need to be reassured that their in a very safe
- 43:32environment. Absolutely.
- 43:33That that is vital, that people feel confident to send their
- 43:37children to our camps and events.
- 43:39And, and know that, you know, we taking good care of them and our
- 43:43staff. All DBS checked, we have a
- 43:46safeguard an officer who's absolutely on top of everything
- 43:49staff of all gone through a safeguarding proposed.
- 43:52Are some first aid and people feel comfortable with what how
- 43:57the care that's Make sure the children and those camps, and
- 44:01what the work you do is is inclusive irrespective of
- 44:04ability. Totally, absolutely.
- 44:07That's about come along and play.
- 44:09Enjoy it just to have a nice time.
- 44:11You don't have to be your best footballer.
- 44:13Come to the Holiday Camp it is. It's about enjoyable time.
- 44:18And you know what? We've also found is it's a long
- 44:20day for some of those children, you know, from running from 2:51
- 44:25and playing football quietly. Yeah, so we probably That 24/7
- 44:31we've also got like game set up for them that they can sit and
- 44:34have brakes and play, you know, large Jenga and things like
- 44:37that. And just have a break away from
- 44:40the football and it's not as you've alluded to during the
- 44:43show as well and mentioned. It's about interacting with
- 44:46other children from different backgrounds and what you know,
- 44:51people kids, they may not interact with on a daily basis.
- 44:53Yeah, totally. They're just coming together
- 44:55from different parts of the city.
- 44:57Go to different schools. Often have got friends with
- 45:00them, some come with a friend, your parents signed both of them
- 45:03up but somebody I won't know anybody there.
- 45:07But some come say regularly, they've built friendships as if
- 45:10they've been coming and you're looking for coaches at the
- 45:13moment. You mentioned there as well, any
- 45:14specific type of coaches at the moment.
- 45:17Or are you open to having a conversation with anybody who's
- 45:20interested in becoming a coach potentially, as well.
- 45:22We're interested in having those conversations with anybody and
- 45:25we can help to get a development plan in.
- 45:28Place for their own going through, get their coaching
- 45:32badges. So, you know, if anyone's
- 45:34interested, please feel free to drop either me personally or an
- 45:38email to Foundation at the Posh.com.
- 45:41And I will pick that up and we'll get in touch with you.
- 45:44If, if you're looking for a paid roll, please send me your CV but
- 45:48will consider anything. It could be an hour a week, if
- 45:51that's what you can commit to. And, but we definitely be
- 45:55interested in talking to coaches.
- 45:56See ya in the community to help grow.
- 45:59On the great work, those foundations done since 2009 and
- 46:02develop that and ensure that as many children and young adults
- 46:05and older adults. Now, as well, that you're
- 46:07touching as well, as I say, yeah, we're in the care home and
- 46:11working with a lady's hundred three doing chair based
- 46:14exercises. So, you know, there really is
- 46:17that big spanner. Yeah, there's a big remit there
- 46:19as well for you to cover. You obviously very excited about
- 46:22the role that you've got. I can see that in the, I've
- 46:24talked about it this evening as well and just want to wish you
- 46:27all the best. Hollywood at the foundation.
- 46:29You know, the coaches, do a grand job in the city all the
- 46:33way from the Walking football to the junior football to the
- 46:35camps. For example, to one of the
- 46:38coaches that you mentioned taking a gentleman to a posh
- 46:41game as well. Who's never been before?
- 46:44You were saying he hadn't been for a long time.
- 46:46Yeah. But now he's hooked back in now,
- 46:50wonderful. It's and that's, you know, for
- 46:52somebody who's not had that access before to be able to
- 46:55contact the foundation in that way.
- 46:56And the foundation to take that on board, Unseen work.
- 47:00Effectively you. Nobody hears about the Camp's
- 47:02potentially but for an older person to be able to enjoy
- 47:06football is just as rewarding. Yeah.
- 47:08And the other thing we tried to do is we work with other
- 47:10community groups and, you know, we can provide some
- 47:13complimentary tickets to games so that people who may not be
- 47:16able to afford it or just circumstances don't permit.
- 47:19But at the moment can get that opportunity.
- 47:22You know somebody might not have taken the children previously
- 47:25and that's a great. Let's get them involved in our
- 47:27Football Club. Yeah, as a full package, did he
- 47:32also mention when working with Care Homes and out in the
- 47:35community? How are those links established
- 47:37and do you do go out and seek them or Duke organizations, come
- 47:40to you and say look we need you know can we work in partnership
- 47:42with you? How does that relationship,
- 47:43start to develop whatever you discover those in terms of the
- 47:46Care Homes? We obviously decided that we
- 47:49wanted to try and put more support in to put older people
- 47:51to and Jenna just went and approached Care.
- 47:55Homes and said, we've got this. And, you know, are you
- 47:57interested? General and Emily both done,
- 48:00courses around chair based exercises.
- 48:03We can offer that to you and the uptake has been interesting and
- 48:08the dementia Center then said all could you come and do it
- 48:11here and and so that's just grown word-of-mouth.
- 48:14They recommend each other so to speak.
- 48:15Yeah, they do. And now we've got a minibus
- 48:17driver at what we've always had a minibus driver.
- 48:19And who works part-time for us in, we're now trying to work
- 48:22out. He's going to go to the Care
- 48:24Homes, to take some of those people to our extra time Hub.
- 48:28So That, that just gives them a bit of variety in there, like
- 48:31static. Yeah, that's proactivity from
- 48:33Emily. And Jenna there, isn't it?
- 48:35Beautiful, the idea was there, they've gone away talks about it
- 48:38and followed it through and reaping the rewards not for the
- 48:41foundation. But the individuals that they're
- 48:43touching over over that course of time, we have an amazing
- 48:45group of Staff. You know, I can't speak highly
- 48:47enough about them that they're committed and just always want
- 48:53to do the best for the foundation and for the football
- 48:55club because you know, we're all embedded in there.
- 48:58And as the say I can't speak highly enough about them,
- 49:01they're a really good group, they're very young group, but
- 49:03they're really committed to what they do.
- 49:05Brilliant Jill, thank you very much for joining us this
- 49:08evening. It's been great to hear about
- 49:10the foundation and the great work that has been done is being
- 49:14done and will be done in years to come as well.
- 49:17So thank you for your time this evening.
- 49:19Thank you very much, thanks for having me.
- 49:20Not a problem. If you do want to find out more
- 49:22about the foundation you can do and that's why their website
- 49:25which is the Posh foundation.com you I doubt about all their
- 49:29camps and the opportunities to join as a coach potentially.
- 49:32But yeah, take a look at their website and get in touch with
- 49:35Jill in the team. There to find out how they can
- 49:37support you or anybody that you know as well.

- 49:47Peterborough Panthers Speedway. And we were talking about the
- 49:50new upcoming season, which starts in the coming week, but
- 49:55good luck to the Phantom's as well.

- 49:59against Leeds nights and then Peterborough Sports home to
- 50:03Lemon. Can Spar tomorrow Posh at
- 50:04Lincoln and whatever your involvement in sport this
- 50:07weekend, whether it's volunteering playing or
- 50:10spectating, which one. I wish you a very successful and
