- 0:41The f A. Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. I hope you're
- 1:02having a great start to your weekend. If you got today off as a
- 1:06holiday, I hope you're using it. Well, let's get right back into
- 1:14where we left off last week. You may remember that in radio replies it
- 1:19very well, we'll say, very ecumenical, well meaning Protestant, perhaps a
- 1:25universalist Unitarian type who thinks that all Christians of all denominations are equal, you
- 1:30know, and alike and in brotherhood, which is you know, honestly,
- 1:34that's the way I was brought up. So, while not valid, is
- 1:38absolutely a better alternative for those who are raised to hate people in other denominations.
- 1:44I mean, as I said, I never encountered anti Catholic bigotry until
- 1:49I went to a prominent Southern Baptist university in Virginia, and it actually drove
- 1:53me to explore what Catholicism was all about and to become Catholic. And I
- 1:59just been a you know, stayed in the Methodist Church or Presbyterian or whatever,
- 2:04and never really heard all these anti Catholic messages. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:08I guess I would have known some about Catholicism thanks to William F.
- 2:12Buckley junior. William F. Buckley was the biggest you know, literary political
- 2:19influence on my life. Certainly I got into Buckley through Rush Limbaugh, who
- 2:23was the biggest you know, political influence of my life. You could easily
- 2:29say that, you know, Rush Limball may have been the strongest male influence
- 2:32in my life since you know, my parents divorced when I was five,
- 2:37and I never really had any contact with my dad afterwards, and my grandfather
- 2:40died when I was ten. You know, once I started listening to Rush
- 2:44Limball around age nineteen or so, it was it was three hours a day,
- 2:49every day, five days a week. Now, Rush would have been
- 2:53one of those people who was raised to believe that all Christians are just basically
- 2:55Christians, no real difference between denominations. You know, he was divorced two
- 3:00or three times, but he was so he was certainly not Catholic at all.
- 3:07His brother David is a Protestant writer. I don't think either of them
- 3:14were ever told that there was any more to explore in Christianity than what they
- 3:19had been taught as children. And I think, you know, that's sort
- 3:23of the way I was raised. So I wasn't raised to hate Catholics anymore
- 3:25than Russia Limball was because William F. Buckley was his absolute hero. Had
- 3:31had he ever sat down with Buckley and Buckley explained to him the importance of
- 3:38becoming Catholic, I think Russia Limball would have converted in an instance, so
- 3:42probably would have been good had Buckley done that. But anyway, when we
- 3:46meet a Protestant brothers sister who in good faith believes that we are brothers and
- 3:53sisters in Christ, we can be absolutely ecumenical and do a lot of good
- 3:57together. We can pray for each other. I mean, I'm one of
- 4:00my very best friends is a very evangelical, non denominational Protestant who sees no
- 4:05difference between protestantsm and Catholicism because he was He's never read any Catholic books and
- 4:12didn't have a preacher or parents that beat that into his head verbally, I
- 4:15mean, you know, metaphorically speaking, and we get along just find you
- 4:19know, he is really interested. When I give him a historic fact,
- 4:25you know, or I tell him about a certain saint, he just gets
- 4:28really interested. It hasn't led him to conversion, but we you know,
- 4:33Jesus said two different points in the Bible, those who are not with me
- 4:36or against me. But he also said those who are not against me are
- 4:40for me. So I think we can definitely draw some lessons from that.
- 4:45But the person says, you must admit spiritually that I am your brother,
- 4:50and the priest answers in so far as you're sincere, our Lord overlooks your
- 4:55mistaken notions and accepts your love for him. The fact remains that you serve
- 5:01him in your way and not in his, and that he does not obtain
- 5:05from you all that he desires. Also that he over what he overlooks in
- 5:11you, he would not overlook in a Catholic who has known the truth very
- 5:15true, person says, has not the Disciple of Christ even outside of the
- 5:20Catholic Church power and authority given to them by the Holy Spirit. This is
- 5:25important and the answer as explained in the Bible. You remember in Acts there
- 5:30were there were I guess Jewish exorcists who were not Christians, who had seen
- 5:42the power of the name of Christ. And at this point even you know
- 5:46the name of Saint Peter, the first pope in driving out demons, who
- 5:49went and tried to drive out demons, and the demon answered them, Jesus,
- 5:54I know, and Peter, I know, but I don't know you.
- 5:56And he jumped on him and beat them and ripped their clothes off and
- 6:00send them, you know, screaming out the door in terror. Only the
- 6:04Catholic who was in communion with Saint Peter, you know, through the sacraments
- 6:11of Christ, has the authority given them by the Holy Spirit. We only
- 6:15receive the Holy Spirit. We receive it in part of baptism, okay,
- 6:19so all projects to receive a partial measure of the Holy Spirit, but the
- 6:23full authority only comes through the sacrament of confirmation. And I mean that's the
- 6:31fullness of the spirit of a lay person in the sacrament of the priesthood,
- 6:36which you know in the Bible is laying on of hands. When they received
- 6:40the Holy Spirit, and they suddenly, you know, received the ability to
- 6:45understand and speak all languages. You know, that doesn't happen outside of that,
- 6:51you know, Apostolic Keroism. And that was necessary in the early Church
- 6:57and isn't necessary now that we we have more universal languages. You know,
- 7:01first of all, Latin became the language for the civilized world. So a
- 7:05lot of languages just disappeared. Well, now English is the language most people
- 7:10speak. Of course, the Chinese want Mandarin to be the language universal language.
- 7:15We actually have fewer languages than we used to. A friend of mine,
- 7:19very dear friend of mine, speaks seven languages. She's fluent in her
- 7:24native Ukrainian Russian, so she can speak both dialects of that language. She
- 7:31can speak Polish, German. Let me think, well, she's fluent in
- 7:36English, she's fluent in Italian because she knows Italian, she can pick up
- 7:43most French and Spanish. So this one person is able to communicate with essentially
- 7:48two thirds of the globe. We'll see at least half the globe, right,
- 7:53I mean, if you can understand Spanish pretty and well, she would
- 7:57also probably be able to understand most Portuguese. She says, she can read
- 8:01them both perfectly. Well, So yeah, take out a few Asian languages
- 8:05and a few African languages and she can pretty much speak with anyone on earth.
- 8:11So there wasn't a need anymore for that Keroism to allow the original apostles
- 8:16to understand and speak all languages. Well, now we have phone apps that
- 8:22can do it for us. But anyway, I'm getting way off track,
- 8:26they answered, no. Not all the sincerity in the world can be a
- 8:31sufficient substitute for authentic credentials in this matter. An immense power and authority over
- 8:37the souls of men requires solid proof that it is really possessed. Christ proved
- 8:43that he had it. The Catholic Church can prove that He entrusted that power
- 8:46to her. Founders of other churches have no more than their own personal conviction
- 8:52that they possess such authority, a persuasion as insufficient as would be my own
- 8:56personal belief that I had the authority to be the chief justice in the land.
- 9:01So only the Catholic Church can turn bread and wine into the body and
- 9:05blood of Christ. You know, only the Catholic priests can absolve, since
- 9:09that's the authority of the Holy Spirit. Well beyond you know, the early
- 9:15Church and speaking in tongues, and all the miracles of the Bible, all
- 9:18Theo's miracles still exist. But only the Catholic Church has the authority of the
- 9:22Holy Spirit. And this is one that really gets you. The person says,
- 9:26I feel that I am right. I have the witness in myself.
- 9:31Now, that is one of the greatest flaws of a modernity, of modernism,
- 9:35and it does start with the Protestant so called Reformation. They say,
- 9:39I feel this is right, and therefore it's right. That's the idea of
- 9:46each person can read the Bible and interpret it without anyone to give them instruction,
- 9:50even though the Bible says differently, and it has led us to someone
- 9:54says, I feel that, even though I have a penis, I should
- 9:56have been born a woman, and therefore i'm and identify as a woman,
- 10:00and I'm right. I have a witness to myself and you have to accept
- 10:03it. Yeah, that's actually a form of insanity. But feelings, feelings,
- 10:13when feelings and facts don't match, facts win every time, all right,
- 10:18So they answer, witness in oneself may easily be purely subjective persuasion and
- 10:22is no sure test of the truth. Men holding totally divergent views claim to
- 10:28experience this witness within themselves, yet they cannot all have the same exact truth
- 10:33revealed by Christ. Thank God. Intellectual mistakes do not always mean evil dispositions.
- 10:39But remember that Christ allowed the Jews to go because they knowingly refused to
- 10:45accept his teaching on the Eucharist. A teaching you also reject as we shall
- 10:48see, if you knew what you were doing, he would reject you also,
- 10:56very grave words there. And it's true, and that's something you know.
- 11:03Even Martin Luther had to admit near the end of his life, he
- 11:07railed against the Eucharist. As he put it, he denied the validity of
- 11:13the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and later admitted that it was
- 11:16Satan who led him to do that. So a Protestant who denies the Eucharist
- 11:24because that's what they've been taught and they don't know any better. God's not
- 11:26going to hold their ignorance against them. But one who realizes that that is
- 11:31actually what Jesus meant in the Bible when he said, this is truly my
- 11:35body, this is truly my blood, and unless you eat of it and
- 11:39drink, you have no life in you. Truly, truly, I say
- 11:43to you, I mean as adamantly as could be said in the Aramaic language
- 11:48it translated into the Hebrew and Greek. I mean, he was absolutely clear.
- 11:56And if you realize that and you still deny it, that's actually it's
- 12:01actually a sin against the Holy Spirit. I mean that's actually one of the
- 12:03unforgivable sins if you know it to be true and you willingly, willfully deny
- 12:09it because you hate the Catholic Church, or for whatever reason else, you're
- 12:18committing idolatry by putting your own opinions of superior to God's. You're maliciously willfully
- 12:28denying the divinity of God because you say you know better than God. And
- 12:35that's true in so many regards. Some regards, and I mean so many.
- 12:41You know, Protestants of otherwise good faith have done that in regards to
- 12:45marriage. You know, they say, yeah, Jesus said no divorce.
- 12:48Divorce is not acceptable in all four of the Gospels. But our church is
- 12:54okay. So we say it's okay. Boom, major mortal sin. And
- 12:58because they they know it, it's not like they're doing it ignorantly. What
- 13:05do you say about that? I don't know. I honestly don't know how
- 13:11someone can answer for that. So anyway, let's get on to Father Spirago,
- 13:18And the topic of the day is the redemption. This is in the
- 13:26Apostles Creed under the topic of the second to seventh article of the Creed,
- 13:35Jesus Christ. So I don't even know what the second the seventh article was
- 13:39the sixth? Why can't you just say the sixth? I have no idea.
- 13:41Sometimes the old language confuses me. But this is the topic of the
- 13:46redemption. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, a redeemer, has freed us from
- 13:50the evil consequences of sin. Man after the fall was unable to regain for
- 13:56himself his former holiness and justice and all the goods that were bound up with
- 14:01these. A man whose body is dead cannot raise himself again to bodily life,
- 14:07so one who is spiritually dead cannot raise himself again to spiritual life.
- 14:11Man after the fall became like a sick man who cannot move a hand or
- 14:15a foot, or arise from the bed on which he is lying. What
- 14:18the good Samaritan was to the man who had fallen among thieves, our Lord
- 14:22is to the man who has been wounded by the crafts of the devil and
- 14:26robbed of his spiritual and supernatural gifts. Jesus Christ is also called our Savior,
- 14:31our redeemer, or our redeemer because he saved us from hell and brought
- 14:35us back at the cost of his own precious blood. Christ freed us from
- 14:39the spiritual consequence of sin. In the following manner, he enlightened our understanding
- 14:43by his teaching, inclined our will to good, by his precepts and promises,
- 14:48and by his sacrifice of himself upon the cross one for us the means
- 14:52of grace by which we once more attain to sanctification and become the children of
- 14:58God. It airs to the kingdom of heaven. Christ took upon himself a
- 15:01threefold office that a prophet or teacher, priest and king. The threefold office
- 15:07he ascribes to himself under various titles. He calls himself the light of the
- 15:09world, because he enlightens the darkness of our understanding by his doctrines. As
- 15:16the light makes distant objects clear and visible, so Christ makes clear to us
- 15:20the most distant objects, God and his perfections, the world to come,
- 15:24heaven and hell, time and eternity before a pilot. He calls himself the
- 15:30King, whose kingdom is not of this world. He also calls himself the
- 15:33good shepherd who gives his life for his sheep. He also compares himself to
- 15:37a guide or a leader. We are wanderers in this world. We have
- 15:41no abiding, dwelling place, but seek one that is to come. The
- 15:46road is rough, steep, and surrounded by precipices, and we are ignorant,
- 15:52are in constant danger of wandering from the way. Christ undertakes to be
- 15:58our guide. He says, I am the Way, the Truth, the
- 16:00Life, and he promises that if we take him for our guide and follow
- 16:03his sacred footsteps footsteps, we shall never go wrong. Saint Paul caused Christ,
- 16:10our great high priest in Hebrews two, who needs not like other priests,
- 16:15first to offer sacrifice for his own sins and then for the people.
- 16:18By his obedience, he atoned for Adam's disobedience. That's Romans five nineteen,
- 16:23for he was obedient to death, even to the cross Philippians two eight.
- 16:30Christ opened Heaven again to us by earning for us the means of grace,
- 16:34by which, especially by the sacraments and Holy Mass, we can obtain sanctifying
- 16:40grace and be made children of God. In opening heaven to us, Christ
- 16:45tore away the veil which shut us out from the Holy of Holies, i
- 16:48e. From Heaven, and by his blood he gives a sure hope of
- 16:52entering Heaven. Hebrews ten nineteen the cross is just is thus the key to
- 16:56heaven. For US's freed us also from the consequences of sin as it affected
- 17:03our bodies. He died instead of us, and has thus earned for us
- 17:07the resurrection of our bodies. He has, by his teaching and his example,
- 17:11taught us what we must do in order to be happy in this world,
- 17:15to overcome the world, and so to obtain or attain this celestial paradise.
- 17:22Lastly, he has given us the means by which we may vanquish and
- 17:26drive far from us the enemy of our souls. By his own resurrection,
- 17:30Christ ensured for us the resurrection of our bodies. By man, death came,
- 17:34and by man came also the resurrection from the dead one Corinthians, fifteen
- 17:41twenty one. By following the teachings of Christ, we shall secure true peace
- 17:45on earth, and by practicing the virtues that he taught us, especially humility,
- 17:52chastity, and liberality, we shall overcome the devil in the world.
- 17:55By liberality he means charity basically generosity. By the sacraments, we drive away
- 18:03from us the evil one. Christ has broken the power of the devil that's
- 18:07revelations or apocalypse, as he would say twelve, verse ten and eleven.
- 18:12But final victory over him will be at the end of the world several verses
- 18:18cited. There by the death of Christ, we have won back almost all
- 18:22that was lost by original sin, though some of its consequences still remained,
- 18:26such as sickness, death, and evil tendencies. Yet we have won more
- 18:30by the death of Christ, and we have lost by sin. Where sin
- 18:33abounded, grace did more abound. That's Romans five point twenty. Hence the
- 18:38Church proclaims in the office of Holy Saturday, Oh happy fault, which obtained
- 18:42for us so great a redeemer. Point number two. The promise of the
- 18:48redeemer. God forgave fallen men. Though he had not forgiven the angels.
- 18:53Man sin was not so grievous. He had less light and knowledge, and
- 18:57moreover was tempted by them. Besides, he at once to some extent,
- 19:03confessed that he lamented his sin. Lastly, God would not for the guilt
- 19:08of one thrust down into eternal banishment from himself the whole race of men.
- 19:14Immediately after the fall, God promised man redeemer. For he said to the
- 19:17serpent, I will put enmity inmity between thee and the woman, between thy
- 19:22seed and her seed, she shall crush thy head that Senesis three point fifteen.
- 19:29The seed of the woman here referred to is our Lord Jesus Christ,
- 19:33and the woman is the blessed Virgin Mary. There is to be a complete
- 19:37enmity between our Lord in his Holy Mother on one side, and the devil
- 19:41and his friends on the other. These words of Almighty God are a promise
- 19:48that the power of the devil should be destroyed, and that the whole race
- 19:52of men, who through original sin had fallen under the power of the devil,
- 19:56that he had great influence over them in persuading them to sin, should
- 20:00be freed from the subjugation to him. These words are called the Proto Evangelum
- 20:06or the First Gospel, inasmuch they are the first promised of a redeemer to
- 20:08come. Yet he was not to come at once. Man had to learn
- 20:12by experience and by suffering the evil of sin, and by seeing the effects
- 20:18of God's anger against it, e g. The flood, the destruction of
- 20:21the cities of the Plain, in the destruction of the Tower of Babel,
- 20:25etc. Two thousand years later, God promised to Abraham that the Redeemer should
- 20:30be one of his descendants. Abraham lived in Er of Chaldea and later in
- 20:36Huran in Mesopotamia. He preserved amid the idollary tree around him the worship of
- 20:41the True God. God commanded him to leave his father's house and journey forth
- 20:45into a land which was to be shown to him. In a journey forth.
- 20:52In reward for his prompt obedience, God promised him and promised him that
- 20:57in him all families of the earth should be blessed Genesis twelve two and three.
- 21:03He directed his steps toward the fertile land of Palestine and promised a numerous
- 21:07posterity. Abraham is called the father of the Faithful Romans four eleven. God
- 21:14repeated the same promise when three angels visited Abraham Genesis eighteen eighteen, I think,
- 21:22and again when Abraham, in obedience to God's commandments, offered up his
- 21:26only son, Isaac in Genesis twenty two seventeen. The same promise that God
- 21:30had made to Abraham he repeated to Isaac and to Jacob, and a thousand
- 21:34years later to King David. God appeared to Isaac when he was about to
- 21:38fly into Egypt, or flee in Egypt on account of the famine in Palestine
- 21:44Genesis twenty six to two. And a Jacob when he was fleeing from his
- 21:48brother Esau and saw the latter reaching up to heaven Genesis twenty eight twelve,
- 21:53and repeated the same to each the same promise. To King David, the
- 21:57prophet Nathan announced by God's commandment that he would raise him up a son whose
- 22:03throne should be established forever. Second Kings seven thirteen. The men who belonged
- 22:08to the family from which Christ was to be born were termed patriarchs. All
- 22:14the patriarchs reached a good old age. God had ordained this in order that
- 22:18they might hand down the knowledge of Him to their posterity at a later time.
- 22:23God sent the prophets, and through their mouth foretold many things about the
- 22:27coming, the birth, the person, the sufferings, the death, and
- 22:30final triumph and glory of the Redeemer. The prophets were men enlightened by God,
- 22:36men of God, who spoke to the people of Israel in God's name
- 22:40and with this authority. Their chief task was to keep the people from sin,
- 22:45and to reprove them when they had sin and also to prepare the mind
- 22:48of men for the advent of the Redeemer. They were from different classes in
- 22:52society. Isaiah was of royal blood, Amos was a herdsman, Elsius was
- 22:57called from the plow to the prophetical office. God gave them the power of
- 23:03working miracles, of foretelling his judgments, and also a prophesy in respecting the
- 23:08Messiah. Most of them lived a life of penance. They were held in
- 23:11great veneration by the people, but were persecuted and in many cases suffered a
- 23:18violent death. Matthew twenty three thirty there were in all there were in all
- 23:23about seventy prophets. Moses was one of the greatest of the prophets. Due
- 23:27torotomy was that thirty four to ten I believe, and Isaiah was greater still
- 23:34on account of his clear prophecies respecting the Messiah. The last of the prophecies
- 23:40was Malachi, who prophised about prophesia about four fifty BC. Sixteen of the
- 23:45prophets left writings behind. Four of these are called the greater prophets Isaiah,
- 23:49Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Twelve of the lesser prophets, on account
- 23:53of the smaller amount of their writings of the Advent of the Messiah, the
- 23:57prophets have given the following account. Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem.
- 24:03So here again Fosbraguer uses the old spelling, and he says, machayas says
- 24:10now Bethlehem Epherata art a little one among the thousands of Judea. Where judas,
- 24:15I should say, out of these shall come forth unto me, he
- 24:19who is to be the ruler of Israel, and is going forth from the
- 24:23beginning until the days of Attorney. T Hence the three kings were informed that
- 24:30the Christ would be born in Bethlehem. The Messiah was to come at a
- 24:33time where the temple was still standing. When the Jews, after their return
- 24:37from captivity, began to rebuild the temple, the old men, who had
- 24:41seen the former temple began to weep. They saw from the character of the
- 24:45foundation that the new temple would not be as large nor as beautiful as the
- 24:48old one. The prophet a gaeus, it's odd the way the old spellings
- 24:53are so hard, so different from our modern spellings. I'll be reading through
- 25:00this. I'm like, who was that again? Anyway, the comforted them
- 25:06by telling them that in this new Temple, the desired of all nations shall
- 25:10come and fill it with glory. But the Second Temple was destroyed by Titus
- 25:15seventy years after Christ and was never rebuilt. The Messiah was to come when
- 25:19the Jews were no longer an independent kingdom. Jacob and blessing his sons before
- 25:23his death, said to Judah, the scepter shall not be taken away from
- 25:27Judah till he come that is to be sent, and to him shall be
- 25:32the expectation of the nations. From this time, the tribe of Judah was
- 25:37the leading tribe and referenced numbers two, three through nine. King David was
- 25:41of the tribe of Judah, and so were the successors up to the captivity
- 25:45of Babylon. Zoro Babyl, who brought the Jews back from captivity, was
- 25:52of the same tribe, also spelled differently in my modern Bible. When the
- 25:59Jews regained their liberty, they were under the rule of the Maccabees, who
- 26:03also belonged to Judah. It was not until the your thirty nine BC that
- 26:07the Jewish monarchs were deprived from their so sovereignty, and it was not till
- 26:14thirty nine BC, that the Jewish monarchs were deprived of their sovereignty, and
- 26:18Herod the Great, a foreigner and a pagan, was raised to the throne
- 26:22by the authority of the Romans. In the time of Herod, a redeemer
- 26:26was looked for all over Judea. Herod was alarmed at the inquiry of the
- 26:32magi for the newborn king. The Jewish people thought that Saint John the Baptist
- 26:37was the Messiah. Reverisd Salute three point fifteen. The Samaritan woman to whom
- 26:42our Lord talked at Jacobs Well, was looking forward to the advent of the
- 26:45Messiah as well. The chief priest conjured The chief priest conjured Jesus to tell
- 26:56them whether he was the Messiah. Matthew twenty six sixteen three. As many
- 27:00as sixty impostors about this time gave out that they were the Christ and deceived
- 27:06many. This is something very few Protestants know. Many of the heretical beliefs
- 27:11of Protestant churches were actually spread by false messiahs. After the Resurrection. Father
- 27:22Sparago will get into this. The main one was Simon Magnus Simon, the
- 27:26magician who's recorded acts of having tried to buy the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 27:32There were many though, and a lot of those foster than Gnostic sects
- 27:37and such, and a lot of their heresy really really, I don't know,
- 27:48you know, it's hard to say. You know, very few Protestants
- 27:52read the early Church fathers or really anything older. I mean, they got
- 27:57the Bible, and they got something written by you know, a preacher one
- 28:00hundred and two hundred years ago, and like everything in between is like a
- 28:03big bore, right, So you can't really say that the heretical doctrine of
- 28:10once saved, always saved, which the Baptist believed fully and so does several
- 28:12Protestant churches, comes from reading the writings of the Gnostics what were in the
- 28:19first you know, two hundred years AD. But the Gnostics had that same
- 28:25idea and were condemned the Church said, saying iron are specifically said, this
- 28:32is not in keeping with Christian belief. It disagrees with the Bible, disagrees
- 28:37with the teachings of the Apostles, it disagrees with the words of God.
- 28:41You know, we have to reject this. So I cannot say that,
- 28:45you know, a Baptist minister of one hundred and fifty years ago whatever,
- 28:51probably less than that read a Gnostic document and thought, oh, yeah,
- 28:56that makes sense. We're going to DoPT this into our doctrine. I would
- 29:00say, probably the same deceiving demon that deceived the Gnostic writers two thousand years
- 29:07ago deceived the founders of that doctrine in the Baptist Church. That actually makes
- 29:18a whole lot more sense if you believe in the words of the Bible.
- 29:21It says, you know, God and the angels and demons exist outside of
- 29:26time. One days is a thousand years and a thousand years as a day,
- 29:29and that there really are demons trying to deceive people in this world,
- 29:33and that many who call themselves Christians are deceived by demons. That's all biblical,
- 29:41And if you believe the Bible, that makes a whole lot more sense
- 29:45than thinking that some you know, Southern Baptist minister in I don't know,
- 29:51Alabama in eighteen ninety or nineteen hundred chants upon a Gnostic manuscript written in Greek
- 30:00two thousand years ago and thought, oh, yeah, that seems really to
- 30:04be inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that's the true doctrine of Christianity.
- 30:10Probably not probably not okay, So anyway, oh see, it's me sixty
- 30:19US many sixty impostors about this time gave out that they were with the Christ
- 30:23and deceived many. Even among the Heathen, there were at the time of
- 30:26Christ an expectation of a deliverer who would banish crime and restore peace to the
- 30:32world. Let's see. The prophet Daniel from six oh five to five point
- 30:41thirty BC foretold that from the rebuilding of Jerusalem in four fifty three BC until
- 30:47the public appearance of the Messiah there would be sixty nine weeks of years,
- 30:51and until the death of the Messiah sixty nine and a half weeks of years.
- 30:56This prediction was revealed to him by the archangel Gabriel, and he was
- 31:00one day offering as he was one day offering the evening oblation or sacrifice,
- 31:07and was praying for the deliverance of his people out of captivity. Cyrus in
- 31:11the year five thirty six gave the Jewish people leave to return to Palestine and
- 31:15rebuild their city in the year four fifty three. This all BC. Remember,
- 31:22so it gets smaller in number as we get closer to where we are
- 31:25as opposed to ad which gets larger in numbers, we get closer to where
- 31:27we are. You know, confuse the crab out of me when I was
- 31:30a kid. But you know, what are you going to do? In
- 31:33the year four fifty three, King artists Erxes gave his cup bearer Naemiah full
- 31:40power to fortified Jerusalem. This had not been allowed by Cyrus, on account
- 31:45of which the Jews have been exposed to the constant attack by their enemies.
- 31:48Now, if we add four hundred and fifty three sixty nine weeks of years
- 31:52as four hundred and eighty three years, we have the date of the commencement
- 31:56of Christ's public ministry. Or if we had sixty nine and one half weeks
- 32:00of years, that's four hundred and eighty six and a half years, we
- 32:04have the date of christ crucifixion eighty thirty three and a half. The Messiah
- 32:08was to be born of the virgin Mary of the House of David. As
- 32:13a sign God gave to King haz akas I guess the following prophecy, Behold,
- 32:19a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be
- 32:22called Emmanuel God with us and of the tribe of Messiah, which is to
- 32:28be born the prophet. Jeremiah says, behold the days to come, Saith
- 32:31the Lord that I shall raise up to David a just branch, and a
- 32:36king, shall raise and reign, and shall be wise, and shall execute
- 32:39judgment and justice on the earth Jeremiah twenty three to five. And his name
- 32:45shall be the Lord, our Just One. You know, isn't it interesting
- 32:49that all these lector absorbent Christians say the name of Jesus, Say, is
- 32:53Yeshua? You can only be called Yeshua. You call him anything else,
- 32:55you shoe, you call him Jesus, You're committing blasphemy. No, his
- 33:00name is actually Jesus in Latin and English, and it was Jesu in Old
- 33:07English. But anyway, in the Bible it's also you know, well,
- 33:09the Messiah is also the Lord, our just One. It's also Emmanuel.
- 33:16Jesus has many names, and ignorant people make ignorant mistakes. The Messiah was
- 33:24to be preceded by a precursor, or a forerunner, who was to be
- 33:29who was to preach in the desert and to live in an angelic life.
- 33:32Isaiah says of this forerunner that he was to be the voice of one crying
- 33:37in the desert, preparing ye the way of the Lord. Make straight the
- 33:39desert a path for our God. And God says through the mouth of Malachius,
- 33:47anyway, through the mouth of Malchius, behold, I send my angel,
- 33:52and he shall prepare my way before my race. And presently the Lord
- 33:55whom you seek shall come to his temple Malachi three. I think that's right.
- 34:00This precursor was John the Baptist. When the messiahs with the Messiah,
- 34:05a new star was to appear. The prophet Bailamb. I guess that's the
- 34:09way you pronounce it. B a l Aam announced to the king of Moab,
- 34:15when the Israelites were approaching, I shall see him, but not now.
- 34:21I shall behold him, but not near. A star shall come out
- 34:23of Jacob, and a scepter shall raise from Israel, rise up from Israel.
- 34:30The Messiah was to be adored by kings from district lands, and they
- 34:32were to bring him gifts. That's I think psalms. One of the psalms.
- 34:39The time of the birth of the Messiah, many children were to be
- 34:44put to death. We breathe the prophet Jeremiah. A voice was heard on
- 34:47high of lamentation and mourning and weeping of Rachel, weeping for her children and
- 34:52refusing to be comforted because they are not Rachel herself represents the Jewish people.
- 34:57She died in Bethlehem and was buried there. Genesis twenty five nineteen, the
- 35:02Messiah was to flee to Egypt and to return again from thence the person of
- 35:07the Messiah. The following prophecies had been of the person of the Messiah.
- 35:12The following prophecies had been uttered. The Messiah was to be the Son of
- 35:15God through the prophet, and Nathan promises through the prophet. Nathan promises David
- 35:22the Redeemer and says he will call me following I would call him son second
- 35:27Kings. In Psalms, God addresses Messiah, thou art my son this day
- 35:30I've forgotten thee he shall be at the same time both God and Man.
- 35:37Isaiah says, the children is born to us. A son is given to
- 35:39us, and his name should be called Wonderful counselor God, the Mighty Father
- 35:45of the world, to come, the Prince of Peace. So there's another
- 35:47half dozen names she can call Jesus other than calling him Joshua, which is
- 35:52actually Hebrew for Yeshuah, or I should say Yeshua's Hebrew for Joshua also be
- 36:00used for Isaiah. So by the reckoning of the tour observant Christians, you
- 36:06could call Jesus Joshua or Isaiah or Yeshuah or, but not Jesus for some
- 36:13unknown reason that only uncatechized people could understand. He was to be a great
- 36:21worker of miracles. God himself shall come and save you. Then shall the
- 36:24eyes of the blind be open, and the ears of the death be unstopped.
- 36:29Then shall the lame man leap as a heart that's a like a deer,
- 36:32and the tongue of the dumb shall be unstopped small deer. Basically,
- 36:38he was to be a priest like Makisa Deck. The Lord has sworn,
- 36:42and he shall not repent. Thou art a priest forever after the order of
- 36:45melchised Dec. Christ offered bread and wine at the Last Supper and offers it
- 36:52daily, and Holy Master, the hands of the priests who are represented as
- 36:54Malchisa Dec you may remember, offer bread and wine as a sacred vice.
- 37:00He was to be a prophet or teacher of the people. To Moses.
- 37:04God had said I would raise up into them a prophet out of the midst
- 37:07of thy brethren, like to thee from Deuteronomy. Hence the Jews named the
- 37:10Messiah. That's another name for Jesus, the Messiah, the prophet who was
- 37:15to come into the world. There is another name as the Prophet. The
- 37:19Messiah was to teach and prophesia. He was also to be the teacher of
- 37:22the nations. He was to be the king of a new kingdom Jeremiah twenty
- 37:27three to five, which was never to be destroyed and was to embrace all
- 37:30other kingdoms Dan to forty four. The kingdom is the Catholic Church, or
- 37:36the Church of the whole world. Before pilot Christ proclaimed himself a king and
- 37:40said, my kingdom is not of this world. His kingdom was to be
- 37:44a spiritual one. John twenty eight thirty six of the sufferings of the Messiah,
- 37:50the Prophet spoke as follows. The Messiah was to enter into Jerusalem,
- 37:53writing and ass that's from Zachariah. He was to be sold for thirty pieces
- 37:57of silver, And I took thirty peace so silver and cast him into the
- 38:00house of the Lord. Oh so Zachariah. The words of Zachariah were exactly
- 38:06fulfilled. Judas threw down the money in the temple, and with it was
- 38:08bought a field belonging to a potter as a bearing place for strangers. He
- 38:14was to be betrayed by one who ate at the same table with him.
- 38:16Judas went out at the last Supper to betray his master. The disciples were
- 38:21to forsake him. At the time of the passion Zachariah twenty three seven.
- 38:24He was to be mocked, beaten, spit upon scourge, crowned with thorns,
- 38:29and giving gall invinters gird a drink. The chief priests inscribes at the
- 38:34crucifixion mocked our lord and said to themselves he saved others himself, he cannot
- 38:38save. In the house of Annas, the servant gave him a blow.
- 38:43In the house of Caiaphas, when he declared himself son of God, the
- 38:45servant spit in his face and gave him blows. Pilot had him scourged and
- 38:51handed him over to the soldiers, who crowned him with thorns and put upon
- 38:53him a purple robe and mockery of the imperial purple. Struck him on the
- 38:59head with the reed and rided him on Golgotha. They gave him wine to
- 39:04drink mixed with gall When he tasted, he would not drink it. For
- 39:07his garments, lots were cast. The soldiers divided his garments into four parts
- 39:12and gave to each soldier Apart his coat, they would not divide, for
- 39:15it was without seam, woven from the top throughout. Therefore they cast lots
- 39:20for it. His hands and feet were pierced with nails. Our Lord was
- 39:24really fastened with nails to the cross, for he showed to Saint Thomas saloons
- 39:29of his hands and feet and told him to place his fingers in them.
- 39:32The usual practice was to tie and dramn criminals to the cross with ropes.
- 39:37He was to die between two evildoers. The prophet Isaiah said, they shall
- 39:42give the ungodly for his burial and the rich for his death. He died
- 39:45between two highway robbers, which were crucified at the same time with him.
- 39:51He was to be patient as a lamb in his sufferings, and was to
- 39:53pray for his enemies. He was to die willingly for our sins of the
- 39:58glory of the Messiah. The pro prophets made the following predictions. He was
- 40:02to make his grave with the rich, and it was to be glorious.
- 40:06His body was not to undergo corruption. I'm not going to give you all
- 40:10the scriptural references here, Okay, I think we know the story pretty well.
- 40:15But anyway, he was returned to heaven and was to sit at the
- 40:19right hand of God. His doctrine was to spread from Jerusalem from Mount Zion
- 40:24over the whole world. The Hall of the Last Supper, where the apostles
- 40:28received the Holy Ghost, was situated on Mount Zion. The Heathen nations of
- 40:32the whole world were to receive his kingdom and to adore him. The Jewish
- 40:37people who had put them Assiah to death were to be severely punished and scattered
- 40:42all over the face of the earth. Remember, just a few years after
- 40:45Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, Israel was destroyed and the whole nation scattered. The
- 40:51Temple destroyed, everything gone. The city Jerusalem was to be destroyed as well
- 40:55as the Temple. The Jewish sacrifices and the Jewish priesthood were to cease,
- 41:00and the Temple was never to be rebuilt. That's actually from Dan and every
- 41:05place around the world. A clean oblation was to be offered to him.
- 41:07That's the Holy Mass. The sacrifice of the Mass, the bread and wine,
- 41:12which becomes the body and blood of Christ, is a clean oblation or
- 41:15sacrifice. It's not bloody. There's no smoke and fire. He will one
- 41:22day judge all men. Before the day of judgment, Elias will be sent
- 41:27on the earth. That's Elias was considered a precursor to the Messiah. The
- 41:32Messiah was announcer may types. The twilight announces the approach of the sun.
- 41:37So the lives of the patriarchs announced and foreshadowed the coming of Christ. Almost
- 41:43all the ceremonies of the Tabernacle foreshadow the ceremonies of the religion of Christ Classans
- 41:49two, sixteen seventeen. The relations of the Old Testament to the New is
- 41:52that of the shadow to the substance, the image to the object that it
- 41:57represents. The ancient Covenant was the which concealed the New. The persons and
- 42:02things of the New, thus represent representing the Old Testament. The persons and
- 42:07things of the New are called types. The types of the Messiah. Whears
- 42:12follows Abel Noah, Melchizedic Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David,
- 42:17Jonas, the archangel, Rafael, the pastoral lamb, the offering on the
- 42:22day of Atonement, the brazen Serpent, and the Manna. Brazen serpent was
- 42:27what was held up by Moses in the desert. It was in the shape
- 42:30of a cross. Abel was the first of just men, Christ, the
- 42:37first of the saints. Abral was a shepherd and offered to God an acceptable
- 42:39offering. He was gentle as a lamb, but was hated by his brother
- 42:44and was murdered by him. Noah was the only just man among all those
- 42:47around him. Christ alone was was without sin. Noah amid his course of
- 42:52preaching built the Ark, so Christ the Church. Noah saved the human race
- 42:55from temporal death, so Christ from eternal death. Noah said sacrifice on his
- 43:00quitting the Ark was the beginning of a new covenant. So Christ, on
- 43:05leaving the world milkisadic, etc. Of justice, was the King of Salem
- 43:09i A the King of peace. Christ was both king and priest. He
- 43:14offered a God bread and wine. Isaac was the only begotten and well beloved
- 43:16son of his father. He carried the wood on which he was to be
- 43:20sacrificed and offered himself willingly. He was restored to his father, and from
- 43:24him sprang a countless offspring. Jacob was persecuted by his brother, but afterwards
- 43:30reconciled to him. Though the son of a rich father, he wanted a
- 43:35strange land, and there won his bride by long service. So Christ the
- 43:38Church he had twelve sons, of whom one was a beloved son. So
- 43:43Christ had twelve disciples, of whom Saint John was the beloved disciple. Joseph,
- 43:47the well beloved son of the Father, was hated by his brethren and
- 43:51sold by them for a few pieces of silver. After great humiliation, he
- 43:55was raised to the highest honor, and by his counsel save the whole peace
- 44:00from death. Heralds proclaimed that all should bow the knee before him, and
- 44:04he was reconciled to his brethren. Moses went, a little child escape the
- 44:07cruel command of the king, spent as youth in Egypt, fasted forty days
- 44:12before the publication of the ancient Law, freed the Israelites from slavery and brought
- 44:15them to the promised land work miracles. In proof of his divine mission,
- 44:19interceded for the people to God, appeared on Mount Sinai with a shining countenance
- 44:23as Christs on Tabor, and was the mediator of the ancient Covenant. David
- 44:29was born in Bethlehem, spent his youth in a humble state. Vanquished the
- 44:32giant Goliath, the enemy of the people of the Lord was king of Israel,
- 44:37had much to suffer in triumphed over all his enemies. Jonas was three
- 44:40days and three Knights in the belly of the Will and preached penance to the
- 44:44Ninevites. The archangel Gabriel came down from heaven to conduct safety safely on his
- 44:49journey, one of the children of Men, delivering Tobias from blindness Sincereah from
- 44:53the devil. The pastial lamb was slain just before the department of the Israelites
- 44:58from Egypt and the therefore, on Friday, preceding the patial Sabbath, it
- 45:01was offered to God and afterwards eaten. It was to be without spot and
- 45:06in the prime of sage. Not a bone of it was broken. Its
- 45:08blood sprinkled on the post of the door to preserve from temporal death as the
- 45:14blood of Christ from spiritual death. It was eaten on the eve of the
- 45:16department, of the departure of the Israelites to the promised land. So our
- 45:21Lord is given as the viaticum on our departure for heaven. The emissary goat
- 45:25on the day of Expiation, was presented by the high priests before the Lord,
- 45:30and the priest then laid his hands upon its head in order thereby to
- 45:32signify that the sins of all the people were transferred to it, And then
- 45:37it was driven out to die in the desert as a leviticus. So Christ
- 45:40said, the sins of the world laid upon him, and passed from Heaven
- 45:44into the desert of the sinful world to die from us. The brazen serpent
- 45:47and the devil in the desert was set up on a piece of wood,
- 45:51and all who looked upon it were healed of the bite of fiery serpents numbers
- 45:55twenty one, six or nine. So Christ was raised up in the wood
- 45:59of the Cross, and all who looked on him with faith and hope are
- 46:02saved from the deadly effects of sin. Hence our Lord says, as Moses
- 46:06lifted up the serpent and the devil, So is Moses lifted up the serpent
- 46:12in the desert. So the Son of Man must be lifted up, that
- 46:15whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but may have everlasting life. John
- 46:19three, fourteen fifteen. Lastly, the Manna is a type of Christ and
- 46:22the blessed Sacrament of the Altar. It is white and small, came down
- 46:27from heaven every day, was to be consumed in the early morning, was
- 46:30given only during the journey through the desert, and contain in it self all
- 46:35sweetness. In all these things, it resembles the blessed Sacrament. Our Lord
- 46:39says that there is a difference between the Manna and the blessed Sacrament of the
- 46:44Altar, that Moses did not give the Israelites spread from heaven, but that
- 46:49the blessed Sacrament is the bread that came down from heaven and giveth life to
- 46:53the world. And I think we will wrap this one up here. And
- 47:00Father Sprangres says, exhaustive. Boy, he means exhaustive. So we've just
- 47:02gone through all the uh, well probably not all, but many of the
- 47:08prophetic references to Jesus in the Old Testament, and we're just scratching the surface.
- 47:15We'll pick up on this one tomorrow. Y'all have a good one.
- 47:20Remember the words of Saint Padre Pio, Pray, hope and don't worry,
- 47:22and I'll talk to you tomorrow.
