- 0:01Speaker 1: So, but I did say I was going to tell
- 0:02Speaker 1: you about the Soul Sisters now. As you know, me
- 0:06Speaker 1: and missus Ferrett do like our Cyperus holidays, and over
- 0:09Speaker 1: the years we've got to make loads and loads of
- 0:11Speaker 1: friends over there, especially members of the pathwas Running Club well,
- 0:14Speaker 1: a few weeks ago I mentioned the ladies section and
- 0:16Speaker 1: played Hey Soul Sister by train and sent a Joe
- 0:19Speaker 1: view a little two minute clip which ended up on
- 0:22Speaker 1: the Soul Sisters Facebook page. When played it back in
- 0:25Speaker 1: a nice way, though it sounded like all they did
- 0:28Speaker 1: was me up, drink coffee and eat cake, so I
- 0:31Speaker 1: wanted to put that right. There is much more to
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Pathwas Running Club and the Soul Sisters, and I
- 0:36Speaker 1: felt I owe it to them to explain what else
- 0:38Speaker 1: they do now the Soul Sisters, which they've since made
- 0:42Speaker 1: me an honorary member. You know, yeah, I'm going to
- 0:44Speaker 1: get a badge. I hope it's made up of ladies only,
- 0:48Speaker 1: but in recent times they've accepted men into the group
- 0:51Speaker 1: and they are sole Misters. They meet three mornings a
- 0:54Speaker 1: week for a run around the pathwass region and welcome
- 0:57Speaker 1: new members. They are mostly expats and formed a group
- 1:00Speaker 1: who support each other and offer encouragement to their fellow
- 1:03Speaker 1: runners as they're all at different levels. Now. One member,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Jackie Maison, I hope we've got that right. Jackie or
- 1:09Speaker 1: Jackie Mizzen, told me how much the Soul Sisters supported
- 1:13Speaker 1: her when she went through her breast cancer. Soul's Sisters
- 1:16Speaker 1: helped to organize the club's charity fundraiser called the Breast
- 1:19Speaker 1: of Friends. This is a round jog walk event where
- 1:23Speaker 1: pink is the themed color that sound familiar, and is
- 1:27Speaker 1: held every year in October. In fact, one year we
- 1:30Speaker 1: did go out in October. I think it was the
- 1:32Speaker 1: one of the many first one of the many times
- 1:35Speaker 1: that we went out. We normally go in November December,
- 1:38Speaker 1: but we went out in October and we actually took
- 1:40Speaker 1: part in this event and it was great. And I
- 1:42Speaker 1: recently found out that over the years this event has
- 1:45Speaker 1: raised nearly twenty thousand euros, which is around about eighteen
- 1:49Speaker 1: thousand pounds now. The money goes towards buying special hospital beds.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Lympidmer sleeves, now that is interesting. They are a compression
- 1:58Speaker 1: sleeve for the relief and prevention of swollen upper limbs
- 2:02Speaker 1: due to postmastectomy radiological and chemotherapy treatments. They offer financial
- 2:08Speaker 1: support for taxes so that cancer patients can get to
- 2:12Speaker 1: their appointments, and they organize coffee and fundraising mornings for
- 2:15Speaker 1: cancer support and to promote the awareness of prostate cancer
- 2:20Speaker 1: as well as breast cancer. And they do make a
- 2:22Speaker 1: contribution to the local hospice. Now, of course this is
- 2:26Speaker 1: the main thing. They do love their running and they
- 2:28Speaker 1: do love the camaraderie that is generated when they meet up.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I'm so glad I've been able to share with
- 2:34Speaker 1: everybody just what else they do to help others in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the Cypress community. I want to thank Junkie Misen, Jackie
- 2:40Speaker 1: Misen and the boss Sue Caudry for their input into
- 2:44Speaker 1: this report, which has been invaluable. Now we'll be back
- 2:47Speaker 1: in Cypress in November and we'll try and meet up
- 2:49Speaker 1: with the Soul Sisters for coffee and cake in the meantime.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I'm now, as I said, an honorary member, and you
- 2:56Speaker 1: know that it's not just people in England, it's they
- 2:59Speaker 1: are pats that think about others in the community. You know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: once again we've got a group of runners that get together.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They've also got a cycling section, a walk in section,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and they have great fun nights, but they also do
- 3:13Speaker 1: a lot for local community. And if you are ever
- 3:17Speaker 1: out in Pathos, please please before you go, just check
- 3:21Speaker 1: out their website or their Facebook page and you fancy
- 3:23Speaker 1: your run or a jog, then they would really welcome you.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Now I've been I've been looking through the playlist and
- 3:31Speaker 1: I found this great track and this I'm gonna play this.
- 3:34Speaker 1: This is the one for me. Really, this is one
- 3:36Speaker 1: for me to welcome me into the Soul Sisters running group.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And it's called Sam and Dave soul Man. What a
- 3:43Speaker 1: great song for the occasions.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Local radio station Radio Focus then.
- 4:09Speaker 1: As Samma Day there and that was for my introduction
- 4:13Speaker 1: to the Soul Sisters. I am now a Soulman on
- 4:16Speaker 1: a re member of the Soul Sisters Pathos Ladies running
- 4:19Speaker 1: group in Cypress looking forward to Senior in November
