- 0:47Speaker 2: book watchers where I hate it here. Welcome back. It's
- 0:51Speaker 2: been a few weeks since we had gotten together to
- 0:55Speaker 2: read to review a book because one of us started
- 1:00Speaker 2: a new job and life has just been getting in
- 1:02Speaker 2: our way. And every time in the last few weeks
- 1:05Speaker 2: where we've been trying to record, we've either.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Just the time move fucked around and chatting and you know,
- 1:15Speaker 3: a gaggle of gaze you know, you know.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Wait, are we a gaggle? It's just a two of us.
- 1:22Speaker 3: We're just a couple of faggots. Cut that fright out.
- 1:29Speaker 3: That's funny. That's funny. That's funny. Come on, that is funny.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We're a couple of faggiots.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's the accident.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I can't Hi, I'm Deevid. You know him, you love him?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Look at that. Look at that beautiful face of one
- 1:48Speaker 3: of my favorite people in my life, Jacob. Look look
- 1:51Speaker 3: at him, look at.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Him, yes, look at me, look at me, and see
- 1:56Speaker 2: how much I want to leave right now.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Hey, hey, if the back Yard Podcast, if those two,
- 2:03Speaker 3: if one of the hosts can rise up the other one,
- 2:06Speaker 3: you know what, so can I I want that energy.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I want to I want to give that riz energy.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Okay, well you know I do have I do have
- 2:15Speaker 2: Joe's energy. I definitely do have Joe's energy because you
- 2:18Speaker 2: rise me up and I'm just like, you know.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Or I'm over here like I missed you, okay, miss me,
- 2:27Speaker 3: And if I.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Did say I miss you, you would just be all.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Like, oh my god, well it's a big it's a
- 2:35Speaker 3: big while.
- 2:37Speaker 2: This is why I don't like sharing showing affection for
- 2:41Speaker 2: this fool over here, because as soon as I do,
- 2:44Speaker 2: he starts going like, oh my god, I'm gonna take
- 2:49Speaker 2: it back.
- 2:50Speaker 3: No, what do you mean.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm gonna take it back? I said, I said I
- 2:54Speaker 2: care about you, and you're just like, really, I'm taking
- 2:58Speaker 2: it back. I'm gonna take back that.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Let me let me enjoy the moment. Okay. I am
- 3:05Speaker 3: an affectionate bitch who happens to be best friends with
- 3:09Speaker 3: somebody who's not on that level, and dating somebody who's
- 3:13Speaker 3: not on that level. It has a cat who's not
- 3:16Speaker 3: on that level except when she is on that level,
- 3:19Speaker 3: but yet she's not with me, and she's like, oh,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you're too much, and I'm just like, what the fuck?
- 3:26Speaker 3: What the fuck? Homophobic by phobic by phobic, like be
- 3:33Speaker 3: on my energy? Granted, honestly, if you were, if you
- 3:37Speaker 3: were as affectionate as I am to you, one day,
- 3:41Speaker 3: you might freak me out. That might freak me out. Actually,
- 3:45Speaker 3: if I'm like, oh my god, you pulled the same
- 3:49Speaker 3: energy on me, that might scare me.
- 3:51Speaker 2: The only person I'm ever at that affectionate with is
- 3:53Speaker 2: my mother, And the only person I ever will be
- 3:58Speaker 2: affectionate like that with would probably be my future partner
- 4:01Speaker 2: who I get to find because men are trash.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And I mean that's facts.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Like, like, bro, can we like chat around a bit
- 4:11Speaker 2: before you start sending me your dick pic? Like shit,
- 4:14Speaker 2: I don't want to see that yet, but I need
- 4:16Speaker 2: to figure out if I want, if I want to
- 4:18Speaker 2: if I like you first, Like, let me figure out
- 4:21Speaker 2: if I if I'm gonna like you before I figure
- 4:23Speaker 2: out if I want if I'm on like that dick
- 4:25Speaker 2: And you.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Know you're not wrong, You're not wrong. You're not wrong,
- 4:34Speaker 3: You're you're correct, you're correct.
- 4:37Speaker 2: So keep it in your pants. Keep it in your pants, bro,
- 4:44Speaker 2: until I say, until we get to the point where
- 4:46Speaker 2: it's no longer in your pants. All right, but that's
- 4:49Speaker 2: not right. But that's not today. Today is not that.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Day, ladies and gentlemen. I have no idea who he's
- 4:55Speaker 3: talking about to you, because I I sure don't know
- 4:58Speaker 3: who he's talking about.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I don't know what I'm talking about either.
- 5:00Speaker 3: You're talking to somebody out there in the ether, like
- 5:05Speaker 3: talking about some guy named Joe, like I don't know
- 5:08Speaker 3: Joe Schmoe.
- 5:09Speaker 2: See now, I don't know what he's talking about.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I don't. I'm so confused. If you're looking at the
- 5:15Speaker 3: description below, you'll see a link to the link Tredes,
- 5:17Speaker 3: I'll take it to the other podcast and you on
- 5:19Speaker 3: for productions a podcast Happy March. So I think that's
- 5:26Speaker 3: that's when this episode is going to go out. He
- 5:29Speaker 3: maybe wonder, oh my god, why have you been gone
- 5:30Speaker 3: for so long? Because I think it's party this up.
- 5:32Speaker 3: It will be the third episode, but still, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 3: last couple of weeks as as as mister beautiful over here,
- 5:38Speaker 3: said has stated, I've started a new job and that
- 5:42Speaker 3: job is taken over my life. By the time this
- 5:45Speaker 3: podcast comes around, my life would be a little more secure,
- 5:48Speaker 3: a little more in order. But Jane, but December and
- 5:52Speaker 3: January are kind of fucking mess is a fucking mess
- 5:55Speaker 3: right now, schedule wise, So that's why we didn't post
- 5:59Speaker 3: anything in January or February or second half of December.
- 6:05Speaker 3: So to spare with us, Well, come back, babe, come back.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You'll get all your book talk all you want. So
- 6:14Speaker 3: YouTube Town's also in the description below. My god cat, sorry,
- 6:22Speaker 3: my cat. She's in her little house over here. I
- 6:25Speaker 3: heard her. I heard her make a noise and like
- 6:27Speaker 3: get in the house, and I'm like, hello, I didn't
- 6:30Speaker 3: know if she came up here. Apparently she did.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And my and we're also joined by my dog, who
- 6:36Speaker 2: is well, she's probably she's like right behind my chair
- 6:41Speaker 2: against You won't be able to see her from here.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, your lover. She treats you like a lover.
- 6:48Speaker 3: That dog is like, this is my man, this is
- 6:51Speaker 3: my man, thank you.
- 6:54Speaker 2: She is. She is a little jealous. She's a jealous
- 6:57Speaker 2: so oh oh, she's a jealous dog. Like this is
- 7:04Speaker 2: my daddy.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Right here, This is my man gets cheer ound. Here
- 7:09Speaker 3: is what best man? No man, I don't think, so
- 7:12Speaker 3: get the fucking and I'm like, letten hear you, little
- 7:17Speaker 3: cotton puff. You may be cute and cuddly, don't I
- 7:20Speaker 3: won't hesitate to throw you in that oven. Would never,
- 7:23Speaker 3: I would never, But like I'll throw you in the
- 7:26Speaker 3: goddamn oven, you little beat.
- 7:29Speaker 2: She'll trip you.
- 7:30Speaker 3: She probably would. And half times I usually I kick
- 7:34Speaker 3: these days. Hey, leave the other elbow out of this. Okay,
- 7:40Speaker 3: leave the elbow out of one. Elbows enough, okay, one
- 7:44Speaker 3: problems enough, leave me all low.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Mhm.
- 7:50Speaker 3: So enough of the buffoonery and tomfoolery, because you know
- 7:53Speaker 3: it's me.
- 7:55Speaker 2: So what what we're doing today?
- 7:56Speaker 1: What?
- 7:56Speaker 2: Who?
- 7:57Speaker 3: What we read in so today? I thought we already
- 8:01Speaker 3: talked about this, but apparently we didn't. So while back, what.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I see this is something I distinctly remember, was that
- 8:11Speaker 2: we did review the first book in the story, yes,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and you were like, we're not gonna review the second
- 8:16Speaker 2: book just yet. We're gonna wait until the next book
- 8:18Speaker 2: comes up, like is about to come out, and then
- 8:21Speaker 2: review it.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I don't remember that I review the second one reverse. Yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 3: that isn't first because normally you forget everything I tell
- 8:31Speaker 3: you something one, I tell you got something going on
- 8:33Speaker 3: like two hours two hours later, Like what, but I forgot.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, it's a Twitter, it's a it's a
- 8:41Speaker 3: UNA reverse. So we're I'm gonna be talking about the
- 8:44Speaker 3: Iron Flame by Rebecca Uros today. We I already talked
- 8:49Speaker 3: about the Fourth Wing, which ended. The description below will
- 8:53Speaker 3: be the episode number for that if you want to
- 8:55Speaker 3: listen to the first book now, for whatever reason, I
- 8:58Speaker 3: thought I was for sure. I thought I talked about
- 9:01Speaker 3: Iron Flame. Apparently I did not. Am I just info
- 9:07Speaker 3: vomit knowledge onto Jacob about the book and not recorded it.
- 9:11Speaker 3: So that's probably what happened there. But I could have
- 9:14Speaker 3: worn and talked about but maybe not, but not for
- 9:17Speaker 3: the pod because I double checked a triple check.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I do recall you talking a bit about it,
- 9:21Speaker 2: but we didn't. Really, I don't think we actually recorded it.
- 9:25Speaker 3: No, we didn't. I could have sworn we did, but
- 9:28Speaker 3: we didn't. So I have not done an episode on
- 9:31Speaker 3: this book. And by the time this episode comes out,
- 9:35Speaker 3: the third book is already out, and have I already
- 9:38Speaker 3: read it by now? Rob A Blay. So sometimes late spring,
- 9:43Speaker 3: early summer, there'll probably be an episode on the third book,
- 9:46Speaker 3: which is called Onyx Storm. Yeah on next Storm. So yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Iron Flame by Rebecca Yours Now, this is the second
- 10:00Speaker 3: installment in the Apperean series of books. This was released
- 10:05Speaker 3: November seventh, twenty twenty three. Now, this is the second
- 10:09Speaker 3: book that of this series that was released in the
- 10:11Speaker 3: same year of twenty twenty three. Because apparently Rebecca's like, hey,
- 10:15Speaker 3: I'm tot it's gonna release two books in one year,
- 10:19Speaker 3: and like you're gonna have to wait two years to
- 10:21Speaker 3: get the second. I'm pissed. I'm still pissed as we're
- 10:25Speaker 3: recording this on the December twenty first, twenty twenty four.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I'm still pissed. I have to wait a month, Rebecca,
- 10:32Speaker 3: Why how dare you so here? We are? I'm batially waiting.
- 10:39Speaker 3: This book is good or this series is good. I
- 10:41Speaker 3: love it. Yeah, so lou to kind of go over
- 10:52Speaker 3: the fourth wait, because I'm not going to go over
- 10:55Speaker 3: the whole thing again. Go listen to that episode. Actually,
- 10:59Speaker 3: you know what, I'm not gonna do a recap. Go
- 11:01Speaker 3: listen to the first episode on the fourth way, because
- 11:05Speaker 3: if I go into a recap, I want to talk
- 11:06Speaker 3: about the whole first book, and I don't want to
- 11:07Speaker 3: do that again.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So you want to recap drug sex and dragon writers.
- 11:14Speaker 3: There you go, oh oh, he remembers that. He remembers that, y'all,
- 11:20Speaker 3: he remembers that drug sex.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I do remember what she talked about it, all right,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I do remember. It's just that like the entire like,
- 11:33Speaker 2: I'm just over here, like I'm a I'm an Aragon,
- 11:36Speaker 2: stand okay, this is this is this is Devon's Aragon,
- 11:41Speaker 2: and I'm like.
- 11:43Speaker 3: This ship was this ship's busting. I mean, there's a
- 11:46Speaker 3: lot of controversies with Rebecca Yarros, but I didn't know
- 11:49Speaker 3: anything about that until relatively recently because of the what
- 11:52Speaker 3: the work. There's a lot of controversy with or where
- 11:55Speaker 3: it comes to her writing on how she repurposes scott
- 12:00Speaker 3: Gaelic words. She mispronounces them in the writing, apparently, and
- 12:04Speaker 3: there's a lot of controversy with that. In a way,
- 12:07Speaker 3: she uses the culture to enhance her books without really
- 12:11Speaker 3: knowing the culture. And I'm like, you know what, cool,
- 12:17Speaker 3: I agree whatever, But I'm still gonna enjoy these damn
- 12:21Speaker 3: books though, that's for sure. I mean not to get
- 12:27Speaker 3: scot irish. I'm gonna enjoy these books.
- 12:29Speaker 2: It's kind of like it's almost kind of like me
- 12:31Speaker 2: with Harry Potter, because I still enjoy the story even
- 12:34Speaker 2: though rallying is very is problematic and like trash talking
- 12:42Speaker 2: the trans community, and I'm just like, like, I feel
- 12:45Speaker 2: for you guys. I know, like I feel for you guys.
- 12:47Speaker 2: But at the same time, I still love Harry Potter.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that's fair. But I would say, though Rebecca
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yarrow's the controversy, Rebecca Yars is not as bad as
- 12:59Speaker 3: Jakroll by no means JK. Rolling Again, I'm in the
- 13:03Speaker 3: same boat o JK. Rowlings. I love the world of
- 13:05Speaker 3: Harry Potter, but my god, is JK Rolling a fucking bit? Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 3: separate the artists from the work, y'all. One day she'll
- 13:16Speaker 3: lose it, Wander Brothers will get it completely. That's my theory.
- 13:20Speaker 2: She's gonna retire. I mean, honestly, she's should already. She
- 13:23Speaker 2: should already like retire, she should like just you've created
- 13:28Speaker 2: this entire like franchise and we want more of it,
- 13:32Speaker 2: but unfortunately we don't want you a part of it anymore,
- 13:35Speaker 2: because like you've been outspoken with your politics and everything,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and there's nothing wrong with that, but then you decided
- 13:42Speaker 2: to take a step into the trans community, the elgibity.
- 13:46Speaker 3: And and that's a good tunk of your fucking fan base, first.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Off, exactly, and then also I love how the creators
- 13:55Speaker 2: of Hogwarts Legacy decided to throw a trans character in there.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And when I first came across that trans character, I
- 14:01Speaker 2: lost my ship because that was the funniest fucking thing
- 14:04Speaker 2: I've ever came across. Just like, oh, these guys did it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I love this game even more now there's a trans
- 14:10Speaker 2: character here, and I'm pretty sure they did that on purpose. Yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 2: most of it as a middle finger to JK Rowling
- 14:19Speaker 2: because you know, yeah, like because fuck you lady.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, period, period.
- 14:27Speaker 2: But moving moving on from the controversy, you know, So
- 14:34Speaker 2: there's your recap and now, well.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Not really much of a recap, but yeah, basically dumbs Down, Violet,
- 14:43Speaker 3: Soaring Gale. I have to remember some of these names,
- 14:45Speaker 3: because I it's it's been a minute since I've looked
- 14:47Speaker 3: at this book or listened to it, I should say,
- 14:50Speaker 3: which I do have both of them in my bookshelf currently. Anyway,
- 14:53Speaker 3: So this story. The first one's about Violet Soreingale. She
- 14:59Speaker 3: is the youngest of three children, and her mother is
- 15:04Speaker 3: higher up in this and the military, in the world,
- 15:07Speaker 3: in the country street lives in and blah blah blah.
- 15:09Speaker 3: And she's going to this school which I can't be's
- 15:14Speaker 3: guy it, yes, best guy it to become a dragon
- 15:18Speaker 3: writer Genanigan's happened. She joins blah blah blah. Almost I
- 15:23Speaker 3: several fucking times finds a love finds the love fox,
- 15:28Speaker 3: you know, drama dragons, and she gets two dragons on
- 15:34Speaker 3: one but two one's a baby, so on and so forth.
- 15:42Speaker 3: There's your there's your recap. You want more deeper depth,
- 15:46Speaker 3: go listen to the Fourth Wing, because let me tell you,
- 15:48Speaker 3: some of this stuff is juicy. So Iron Flame picks
- 15:53Speaker 3: up right after the events of Fourth Wing, like literally
- 15:58Speaker 3: picks her right where I left off. I think left
- 16:00Speaker 3: off with Violet finding out, Oh my god, my older
- 16:03Speaker 3: brother he's alive. What because he thought she thought everyone
- 16:08Speaker 3: thought he was dead. Apparently he was not. It was like,
- 16:11Speaker 3: I'm alive, I'm not dead, Violet. God, he's not gay,
- 16:16Speaker 3: he's straight. He's full of masculine like he's someone's straight cracked.
- 16:21Speaker 3: He's he probably like Jacob's dead.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know, maybe like I need a visual
- 16:27Speaker 2: to be able to like.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I'll find one. I'm fine, but Violet. This is when
- 16:31Speaker 3: Violet learns that her brother is alive. My thought it
- 16:36Speaker 3: was dead. It's not alive. And he never and he's
- 16:38Speaker 3: been gone for years. He never came back even after
- 16:42Speaker 3: he found out his dad died, because he thought Brendan died.
- 16:47Speaker 3: That's fuckerat. So let me tell you, Violet was pissed, Abby,
- 16:52Speaker 3: she was Hella fucking pissed. She beat She was like,
- 16:54Speaker 3: I'm wonna fuck you up. Well not no sense, but
- 16:57Speaker 3: she was like I don't want to fucking look at you.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And she left. So she finds out about her brother
- 17:03Speaker 3: operating under an alias, and obviously it's alive and Lieutenant
- 17:08Speaker 3: Cardinal in a secret rebellion located in Arietta and that's
- 17:16Speaker 3: how you pronounce it, Arietta. That is fighting against the Venoin. Yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 3: the Venom. Now if you remember the Venoin, Okay, so
- 17:25Speaker 3: recap boo boo boo boo. So the Venin are basically
- 17:32Speaker 3: so the dragons. So they're dragons and they are Griffins, right, right,
- 17:38Speaker 3: So the dragons and Griffins choose their writer. So like
- 17:42Speaker 3: in the set, in the first one you learn about
- 17:44Speaker 3: dragon mares obviously, and then of course the Griffin writer.
- 17:47Speaker 3: And then there's another group that don't are not griffin
- 17:54Speaker 3: and or dragon writers. So they decide to make their
- 17:56Speaker 3: own creature known as the no As. They're like waverns basically,
- 18:03Speaker 3: and the Venoin take the energy from the earth and
- 18:07Speaker 3: basically it basically it's quite corrupted magic. It taints them
- 18:10Speaker 3: and turns them evil. And this goes back to the
- 18:13Speaker 3: origin story of the three brothers. I can't think of
- 18:17Speaker 3: the brother's name at the moment, but the legend goes
- 18:18Speaker 3: it's like three brothers. One's a dragon writer, one's a
- 18:21Speaker 3: griffin rider, and the other one's not any of those,
- 18:24Speaker 3: and he gets jealous of his two other brothers. So
- 18:26Speaker 3: that's him when he creates the wavern with magic, and
- 18:31Speaker 3: he ends up becoming like a fucking monster. And that's
- 18:34Speaker 3: why the Venoin are known as evil because they were
- 18:39Speaker 3: the Wavering were born out of or the Venoin whatever
- 18:42Speaker 3: they're all born out of.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you, that's fucking that's metal.
- 18:52Speaker 2: As fuck. But at the time, I'm like, why do
- 18:55Speaker 2: you need why should you be jealous of your siblings
- 18:58Speaker 2: when you literally just created your own type of your
- 19:03Speaker 2: own mount, your own companion. You're familiar, all right, because
- 19:06Speaker 2: if anything, that's that's much better than the dragons and
- 19:10Speaker 2: the than the griffins, because like, these are just animals
- 19:14Speaker 2: that exist in the real world, and dragons are intelligent too,
- 19:18Speaker 2: but like, like you, you literally like use your own power.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I mean, you have bitterness and anger and jealousy to
- 19:26Speaker 2: create these. So it's just like, dude, take pride in
- 19:33Speaker 2: that you you instead of like being basic and just
- 19:37Speaker 2: going for what's already there, you made your own.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you would think, but with all that rage, anger, jealousy,
- 19:45Speaker 3: magic that they pulled forcibly pulled from the earth. Now,
- 19:48Speaker 3: don't quote me on that. I could be a little
- 19:50Speaker 3: rusty because again, Fourth Wing, I haven't talked, I haven't
- 19:52Speaker 3: read that book in a long time, in a year.
- 19:56Speaker 3: But yeah, it kind of the magic that they used
- 20:00Speaker 3: obviously taints them and corrupts the person as well as
- 20:02Speaker 3: the or the Yeah, the wife vern and it these things,
- 20:08Speaker 3: these wievern are not necessarily living things. They're man made things,
- 20:15Speaker 3: and they're mindless monsters that just do everything to just
- 20:22Speaker 3: kill whatever's in their way, like they have no purpose
- 20:25Speaker 3: but violence because they're made because they're born out of
- 20:28Speaker 3: rage and jealousy and violence. So this stuff, as far
- 20:34Speaker 3: as everyone knows, was of legend myth. But Violet finds out,
- 20:39Speaker 3: oh shit, these are real, obviously, because this is right
- 20:43Speaker 3: after the fight in the last book at the very
- 20:46Speaker 3: end where they fight some Vinin and they figure out,
- 20:50Speaker 3: oh shit, this shit is real. Oh fuck. And of
- 20:53Speaker 3: course some of them died. Some of the people in
- 20:55Speaker 3: our group died obviously, and that's what it caused problems
- 20:58Speaker 3: for this book. Oh so Violet finds out all this
- 21:03Speaker 3: about her brother, and she finds out about the Rebellion
- 21:09Speaker 3: against the venoin to against the Venom threat that Navari.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Navari's leaders have been hiding for years. So the leaders
- 21:20Speaker 3: of the like Bezgayeth, the school and Navari know about
- 21:27Speaker 3: the Venom, but they're not telling anyone about them because
- 21:30Speaker 3: they're like, we're fine, we're gucci, we got our force
- 21:33Speaker 3: fields up, we're great. Everyone else that can go fuck themselves.
- 21:36Speaker 3: They're on their own, and the rebellion people are like,
- 21:39Speaker 3: you have all this ability to do something about it,
- 21:42Speaker 3: but you're only defending yourselves and letting everyone else rot.
- 21:47Speaker 3: So mm hmmm, uh so that's it. The normal everyday
- 21:52Speaker 3: person does not know about the venom because of the
- 21:55Speaker 3: lie in secrecy of it all, but the simply of
- 22:03Speaker 3: their revolution are wary of trusting Violet because Violet wants
- 22:07Speaker 3: to join in on this. She's like, I want in
- 22:09Speaker 3: on this, and everyone's like, mm, you're kind of a risk,
- 22:12Speaker 3: girly because you're still going to best Guya. So I
- 22:17Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know if she trusts you, even
- 22:19Speaker 3: though she's Brendan's younger sister, So there's that. But they
- 22:24Speaker 3: eventually vote to allow her and her comrades to who
- 22:28Speaker 3: survived the vend attack at Rassan returned back to bes Guya.
- 22:34Speaker 3: So they eventually returned back to the school because they
- 22:35Speaker 3: have to because otherwise everyone gets very suspicious. Don't be suspicious,
- 22:41Speaker 3: don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious. So as long as
- 22:46Speaker 3: they keep the Venda attack a secret, the group returns
- 22:49Speaker 3: to the war college like nothing's wrong. They have to
- 22:53Speaker 3: act like everything's okay, there's nothing that happened, which pisses
- 22:59Speaker 3: off violent It obviously because some of her friends died
- 23:02Speaker 3: in that attack and she can't even really talk about it,
- 23:08Speaker 3: so lying they have to lie obviously that they were
- 23:13Speaker 3: attacked by They had to say the lie that they
- 23:15Speaker 3: were attacked by Griffins instead of thee So the core, uh,
- 23:24Speaker 3: the Quadrant returns or the Quadrant is introduced their new
- 23:30Speaker 3: vice commandant commandant. Yes, that's the word. Major Burton verished, which,
- 23:41Speaker 3: let me tell you, I fucking dismand so much when
- 23:46Speaker 3: this man finally gets it so good, it just like
- 23:51Speaker 3: I want you to die so bad, So major bearish
- 23:58Speaker 3: trash an ally of General Atos, which, if you refresher,
- 24:03Speaker 3: General Atos is the father of Violet's old BFF for life,
- 24:09Speaker 3: best friend forever being, and General Atos is the one
- 24:13Speaker 3: that sent Violet and her crew to basically get slaughtered
- 24:18Speaker 3: by the Venet, so she was kind of set up
- 24:21Speaker 3: to die because of General Atos.
- 24:26Speaker 2: So that's pretty that's typical.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Mm hmmm. And Violet publicly ends her friendship with Dane,
- 24:35Speaker 3: which is General Atos's son her BFF used to be BFF,
- 24:39Speaker 3: blaming him for for Liam's death with Lei. Liam is
- 24:43Speaker 3: one of the characters that died that he had the
- 24:46Speaker 3: big he had the dramatic death in the Fourth Wing,
- 24:49Speaker 3: and it was because of Dane kind of, not in
- 24:53Speaker 3: not directly indirectly Dane's fault, because Dane was the one
- 24:57Speaker 3: who spilled the beans of what was going on in
- 24:59Speaker 3: the first book, which put general Ato's I'm Gonna kill You,
- 25:05Speaker 3: So it was technically indirectly Dane's fault. Kind of. Dane
- 25:09Speaker 3: didn't know his father was gonna do some bullshit like that, obviously,
- 25:13Speaker 3: but so it's indirectly his fault. But Violet blames him anyway.
- 25:19Speaker 3: And I think it doesn't say that on the summary
- 25:22Speaker 3: that I'm looking at here, but I think that's when
- 25:24Speaker 3: Violet punches him in the face, if I remember correctly,
- 25:28Speaker 3: because she she sucks. If it's not this part, it's
- 25:31Speaker 3: another part. But she punches in the face off your anger.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And now at this point, Violet is a whole lot
- 25:35Speaker 3: stronger than she was when she first went the best
- 25:37Speaker 3: guy at them the Fourth Wing. She's gotten some muscle
- 25:40Speaker 3: on her he didn't know she still has. Obviously, she
- 25:43Speaker 3: still lives with her condition that she has, but her
- 25:46Speaker 3: body's a lot more durable now. So from there, Zayden,
- 25:51Speaker 3: who's now graduated and who's a lieutenant and also ex
- 25:56Speaker 3: bully now lover hey. It is sent to the outposts
- 26:03Speaker 3: of Samara. So due to Violet's dragon and Zayden's dragon,
- 26:11Speaker 3: there are mates and they have a they're really they're
- 26:17Speaker 3: in a relationship. They're mating bond, they're bonded for life.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Violet and Zayden are granted leave every week on a
- 26:25Speaker 3: rotation basis to see each other because the dragons have
- 26:28Speaker 3: to be in contact with each other. So one week
- 26:31Speaker 3: Violet would go to Zayden on his outposts. The dragons
- 26:35Speaker 3: do their thing, and then the next week Zayden comes
- 26:38Speaker 3: to Besgayath. The dragons do their thing. By doing their thing,
- 26:43Speaker 3: I mean, use your imagination. Dragons are animals, so you
- 26:47Speaker 3: know what's oh yeah, and what's funny. What's funny and
- 26:53Speaker 3: kind of weird. The Zayden and Violet know when their
- 26:59Speaker 3: dragons are are doing that because the emotion kind of
- 27:04Speaker 3: rubs off on them and then they get in the mood.
- 27:13Speaker 3: You're catching when I'm putting down. You're catching when I'm
- 27:18Speaker 3: putting down, y'all, so it kind of reflects. Okay, I
- 27:22Speaker 3: just wanna make sure y'all got it. So make sure
- 27:24Speaker 3: on the same page. I'm so dramatic, So they do
- 27:32Speaker 3: rotations every other week or every week. Violet is, uh,
- 27:36Speaker 3: of course, Violet is still having walls from Zayden and
- 27:43Speaker 3: he that he insists he can't be honest with you,
- 27:47Speaker 3: and she's like, why the fuck not fucking tell me shit, bitch,
- 27:52Speaker 3: And then it's like, I can't tell you, ship, I
- 27:54Speaker 3: can't tell you. You can't there's some things you can't
- 27:57Speaker 3: learn about my god, he's being one of those. And
- 28:02Speaker 3: she's like, let me fucking and fuck. So they're still
- 28:10Speaker 3: having relationship issues. And because last book, that's when she
- 28:21Speaker 3: found out about the smuggle it was that last book
- 28:24Speaker 3: or this book. It was one of the two they
- 28:26Speaker 3: talk about the smuggling ring of weapons that they're doing.
- 28:29Speaker 3: I guess it was this book. But she finds out
- 28:31Speaker 3: about Zayden and the other what they call them marked ones,
- 28:37Speaker 3: the other ones that are blamed for the uprising. But
- 28:40Speaker 3: it turns out, well, a little more background on that.
- 28:43Speaker 3: So there was an upraising obviously, and Zaden's won the people,
- 28:46Speaker 3: the children have won the what they call it rebels,
- 28:54Speaker 3: because there's a group of people that try to take out,
- 28:57Speaker 3: try to overthrow Nari, the country they're in, because they
- 29:06Speaker 3: found out about the Venin about everything else is going
- 29:08Speaker 3: on that they're doing. This group didn't like that, so
- 29:10Speaker 3: they stood up to the government and the people of
- 29:13Speaker 3: power and then it turned into a revolution. Blah blah blah.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Zayan's one of them. So all these kids are marked
- 29:21Speaker 3: by a dragon to indicate that they're a child of
- 29:24Speaker 3: one of these old rebels or whatever, and all of
- 29:28Speaker 3: them have been doing this smuggling ring of weapons, taking
- 29:33Speaker 3: these weapons out of Basgayath and taking them to outside
- 29:38Speaker 3: the country because their weapons that Besgayath has can hurt
- 29:43Speaker 3: the Vinin, well normal weapons cannot, so best Guyeth hords
- 29:48Speaker 3: all these weapons and shit. So now this group is
- 29:52Speaker 3: trying to smuggle them out to give them the people
- 29:55Speaker 3: so they can defend themselves against the Venin, which also
- 30:00Speaker 3: explains why the Griffins are attacking, because the Griffin writers
- 30:08Speaker 3: are also involved in this because they're outside the world,
- 30:13Speaker 3: outside this nation, and they're being fucked over by the Venoin,
- 30:18Speaker 3: and they're fighting into Navari because of the bullshit. They're
- 30:25Speaker 3: trying to get people to realize what the hell is
- 30:27Speaker 3: happening outside, But the people in Navari think oh, the
- 30:30Speaker 3: Griffins are just violet criminals who would want to murder
- 30:35Speaker 3: everybody when reality, they're struggling out here against the Venoin,
- 30:41Speaker 3: with everyone's sitting comfortably in their little force field bubble
- 30:46Speaker 3: bitches Navari's hosts bitches and hosts of low Lives. So
- 30:53Speaker 3: from there she grows a camaraderie with Imagen and one
- 31:02Speaker 3: and one of the other students in her group Blah
- 31:04Speaker 3: Blah blah, and two other marked ones who survived the
- 31:08Speaker 3: fight with the vinin Last Look. So she does get
- 31:16Speaker 3: distant with her friend Rihannan, who was her close friend
- 31:20Speaker 3: during the first book. She was not part of the
- 31:22Speaker 3: group that got attacked by the Venoin. She was left
- 31:24Speaker 3: at the school she got put somewhere else in the
- 31:28Speaker 3: different quadrant. Yeah right, Oh, so violences distancing herself from
- 31:34Speaker 3: her friends because she doesn't want to let them know
- 31:37Speaker 3: what's really going on because that also potentially puts them
- 31:40Speaker 3: into danger. So she kind of puts a wall up
- 31:42Speaker 3: to them because she wants to protect them because the
- 31:44Speaker 3: second they find out, they're in just as much danger
- 31:46Speaker 3: as she is doing what she's doing with the knowledge
- 31:49Speaker 3: as she knows. So on Coronation Day, conscription day. So
- 31:56Speaker 3: on prescription Day, Violet Dane recognized Prince Cam now Prince Cam.
- 32:04Speaker 3: So the prescription day is the day that the new
- 32:07Speaker 3: students of Besgaya go through their trial of crossing that
- 32:11Speaker 3: little canon I came what they call it a little
- 32:15Speaker 3: Oh my god. They cross a little bridge of rock
- 32:19Speaker 3: and there's open on both sides and the potentially can
- 32:21Speaker 3: fall over and die. Right anyway, there's there's their first test.
- 32:25Speaker 3: So one of these people that came up to him
- 32:27Speaker 3: were was Prince Cam. Now Prince Cam is the child
- 32:31Speaker 3: of the king. He's the youngest, the youngest son of
- 32:36Speaker 3: King Harry Corry Tarry Tory and who's going to under
- 32:43Speaker 3: the alias of Eric Eric basically Eric Grace gray Castle.
- 32:50Speaker 3: And they're like, uh, this is Prince Camp and he's like, no,
- 32:53Speaker 3: I'm not, I'm Eric gray Castle. Let me through. My
- 33:00Speaker 3: dog doesn't know shit, because Prince Cam knows what's going
- 33:06Speaker 3: on spoiler alert. He knows everything. And he's like, I
- 33:09Speaker 3: can't sit around and just let people die out there
- 33:11Speaker 3: like my father's doing, sitting on the goddamn throat. So
- 33:14Speaker 3: now I'm gonna fucking learn how to be a dragon
- 33:16Speaker 3: writer and fucking take care of shit myself. So he
- 33:19Speaker 3: seeks out and does and joins this and they're like
- 33:23Speaker 3: oh fuck, or Violet's like, oh fuck if he dies,
- 33:28Speaker 3: it's basically our heads, so yay drama yay. She also
- 33:39Speaker 3: meets Sloan. Now Sloan is a is a little not
- 33:45Speaker 3: little a girl, it's it's Liam's sister. Now she blames
- 33:53Speaker 3: Violet for her for her brother's death. So there's a
- 33:57Speaker 3: lot of turmoil between Sloan and Violet because Slow wants
- 34:02Speaker 3: to kill Violet because she's like, it's your fucking fut
- 34:04Speaker 3: our brother's dead, you little bitch, even though it's really not,
- 34:09Speaker 3: but she doesn't know that. So uh, Violet's like, well shit,
- 34:15Speaker 3: that's the fuck me then, I guess. So she survives
- 34:19Speaker 3: assassination attempt orchestrated by General Arrows. Also, on top of
- 34:24Speaker 3: all of this, they try to kill she tries to.
- 34:27Speaker 3: She almost gets assassinated, and while many of while also
- 34:33Speaker 3: many of her other comrades that survived the n An
- 34:37Speaker 3: attack also get assassinated, a bunch of them do get
- 34:40Speaker 3: killed off because they are assassinated because they know too much.
- 34:44Speaker 3: The General Arrows is trying to kill everybody that knows
- 34:47Speaker 3: what's happening because his goal was to have them all die,
- 34:50Speaker 3: but not all of them did obviously, So now they
- 34:52Speaker 3: start throw out the book. They start picking them off
- 34:54Speaker 3: one by one until she's like it sells like her
- 34:57Speaker 3: and maybe like one of the persons left it. And
- 35:00Speaker 3: I was like, damn, general arrows ain't playing. You want
- 35:04Speaker 3: them all dead? So from there, uh meanwhile, uh oh Anna,
- 35:18Speaker 3: oh my god, let's sake, I an pronounce her name,
- 35:22Speaker 3: the little dragon. So Violet Headquarters has two dragons, a
- 35:26Speaker 3: black dragon, one of the biggest ones period, and then
- 35:30Speaker 3: she has another one that's now it's named and Darna
- 35:35Speaker 3: and Darna and Darna, yes, yes, I remember Darna. So
- 35:41Speaker 3: I'm like, how do you pronounce that Darna? So she
- 35:44Speaker 3: enters what they call the dreamless Sleep, which all dragon
- 35:49Speaker 3: hatchlings must go through to enter maturity. Basically that's where
- 35:55Speaker 3: they do their most growing. Most they're growing is through
- 35:57Speaker 3: this dreamless sleep and learning that there is an un
- 36:06Speaker 3: oh okay, okay. So when Darna goes into this serious
- 36:13Speaker 3: dreamless sleep and they're still trying to figure out what
- 36:17Speaker 3: to do with the venin, they realize there's a wardstone
- 36:22Speaker 3: in play. It's not too far from where they're at
- 36:28Speaker 3: and Aria, Oh god, Rita, Arita, someplace in Arita, and
- 36:38Speaker 3: they're like, oh fuck, we can get a wardstone. We
- 36:40Speaker 3: could potentially help people outside, potentially make a ward to
- 36:46Speaker 3: sit to protect themselves from the goddamn Venin because the
- 36:49Speaker 3: Vennor just freaking have it going through the village of village,
- 36:51Speaker 3: murdering everybody. So they're trying to find a way to
- 36:54Speaker 3: get wards outside as well, and they found a unactivated wardstone.
- 37:00Speaker 3: So Violet begins secretly investigating the first six who built
- 37:04Speaker 3: the first wards in Navari, the first six of dragon
- 37:08Speaker 3: Ris that created the first wards that protected Navari from
- 37:12Speaker 3: all the vine in the first place. And she's trying
- 37:14Speaker 3: to figure out how they did it because she wants
- 37:17Speaker 3: to emulate that for the people, for people elsewhere, to
- 37:22Speaker 3: help other people. So a scribe helps her. Her name
- 37:30Speaker 3: is Jessina Casina. She breaks into the scribe quadrant. She
- 37:36Speaker 3: breaks quadrant rules and smuggles out books of the archives,
- 37:42Speaker 3: so violent and for Violet and Corzden confronts her about
- 37:47Speaker 3: her research as she's doing, because obviously that can get
- 37:51Speaker 3: them in serious trouble if anyone finds out that there's
- 37:54Speaker 3: a scribe smuggling out books that should not be read
- 38:01Speaker 3: common people eyes, secrets and shit. So from there also
- 38:11Speaker 3: transl where was ibscribes? Where are you denying?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Subscribe was gonna help her?
- 38:21Speaker 1: No?
- 38:21Speaker 3: No, no, okay. Well, also struggles with keeping the secrets
- 38:25Speaker 3: from her friends, obviously, and her sister Mirah. Of course,
- 38:28Speaker 3: her older sister's Mira, who's not as bad as Guy anymore.
- 38:31Speaker 3: She's a soldier out in combat and she knows something's
- 38:35Speaker 3: going on. The Violet doesn't tell her shit either, like
- 38:39Speaker 3: she doesn't know her brother, her older brother is alive,
- 38:42Speaker 3: which is kind of sucks because Mira and Brennan were
- 38:45Speaker 3: really close as children. So the fact that Violet has
- 38:48Speaker 3: to lie to her sister that their brother's alive after
- 38:50Speaker 3: all these years really kind of gets the violent. Obviously,
- 38:56Speaker 3: she finds out that the uh Eric Eric Eric knows
- 39:02Speaker 3: about the venom, which is Prince cam. He knows about
- 39:05Speaker 3: the vinin obviously and the venom threat, and he comes
- 39:10Speaker 3: to Best Guy to try and find a resolution. Of course,
- 39:13Speaker 3: and Varish, especially of Violet and the marked Ones, begins
- 39:17Speaker 3: to target her, routinely searching her bags whenever she leaves
- 39:23Speaker 3: for Zayden because she obviously Veris thinks she's up to something,
- 39:28Speaker 3: so she checks. Everytimes she goes to a dragon to leave,
- 39:31Speaker 3: he checks her belongings on her. She does a bag
- 39:34Speaker 3: search or he does a bag search, and it's just like, girl, leave,
- 39:37Speaker 3: leave her alone. Down it. And during an interrogation exercise,
- 39:48Speaker 3: since Violet's higher ranking in the school now, they're learning
- 39:51Speaker 3: how to do interrogations and how how not to break
- 39:56Speaker 3: under interrogation. So during an interrogation exercise, Varish orders Dane
- 40:01Speaker 3: to read her memories, which Dane can do. Obviously in
- 40:05Speaker 3: the first book, that didn't work out for him for
- 40:07Speaker 3: so while. That's what got him in trouble in the
- 40:08Speaker 3: first place. So Barris She's like, yeah, Dane read her memories,
- 40:13Speaker 3: and Dane's like, uh no, I'm not doing that, so
- 40:15Speaker 3: he refuses. Avey and Violets and her squad members are
- 40:19Speaker 3: shocked when Jack Barlow, whom she killed in the previous book,
- 40:27Speaker 3: is alive.
- 40:29Speaker 2: WHOA, there's.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Girl, girl, Let me tell it, Let me tell you,
- 40:34Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. I was behooved. I was
- 40:37Speaker 3: like I had to stop the audiobook and I'm like,
- 40:42Speaker 3: what kind of fucking bullshittery, fuck are you is over
- 40:44Speaker 3: here on this day? You're telling me that bitch is alive?
- 40:51Speaker 3: I was behooved. I was pissed. I was like, what
- 40:53Speaker 3: the fuck? How that bitch survived? Turns out they'd keep
- 41:00Speaker 3: and come alive. They found when they found him, he
- 41:03Speaker 3: was barely alive. So he's been sealed away somewhere for months,
- 41:08Speaker 3: recuperating months, and he just comes back and he's like hey,
- 41:16Speaker 3: and while it's like oh, just like just.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Like hey, yeah, literally, literally this guy's back.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Okay, our secrets are about to get exposed. Okay the
- 41:34Speaker 2: guy I tried to kill me, I'm in danger.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Oh. I was like, girl, fuck up, you did it once?
- 41:41Speaker 3: Did you get do it again?
- 41:44Speaker 2: So to finish when I started?
- 41:48Speaker 3: Literally so yeah, yeah. She finds out that he was
- 41:54Speaker 3: been mended over time because his wounds were that severe,
- 42:00Speaker 3: and then basically nothing really happens there. She finds out
- 42:03Speaker 3: he's alive, and that's pretty much yet and she's like,
- 42:05Speaker 3: oh fuck. So then she goes on a trip after
- 42:08Speaker 3: the exercise happens, because when when Dane's like, I'm not
- 42:11Speaker 3: gonna do that, kind of just saw it kind of
- 42:14Speaker 3: just ends there where the extra continues on and she's
- 42:17Speaker 3: She's just like fine, Parris, like, I'll find you, I'll
- 42:20Speaker 3: get your bullshit. I'll find out Wan these days you wait,
- 42:23Speaker 3: you're gonna You're gonna slip up, and I'm gonna get you.
- 42:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna get you. You can't have me, bitch. So
- 42:29Speaker 3: violets on her toes, and then she visits obviously Zaiden,
- 42:33Speaker 3: and they rekindle their physical relationship. They fuck, they fuck,
- 42:41Speaker 3: they fuck hard. They I was like, m and let
- 42:47Speaker 3: me tell you, girl, some of the that detail they
- 42:52Speaker 3: put in those scenes, I'm just like, uh, I can't.
- 42:58Speaker 3: I have to be careful because I was working delivery
- 43:03Speaker 3: at the time, y'all, and I was at a gas
- 43:06Speaker 3: station windows down, listening to the book, you know, minded
- 43:08Speaker 3: my business, and that's why I came on. And I'm like, oh, oh,
- 43:13Speaker 3: let me turn it down because let me tell you,
- 43:16Speaker 3: it goes in detail about certain like body parts, and
- 43:20Speaker 3: I'm just like, oh.
- 43:21Speaker 2: My god, just like that Pepe meme, just like mm hmm.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I should have known better because the first book is
- 43:28Speaker 3: like that too, but I didn't think anything of it.
- 43:30Speaker 3: And I heard that, I'm like, oh, let me turn
- 43:32Speaker 3: it down with my when I have my windows down,
- 43:37Speaker 3: that's their children somewhere. I was behooved. I was like, damn,
- 43:44Speaker 3: damn Satan down. Okay, okay, okay, back in king all right,
- 43:55Speaker 3: mm hmm. You get freaky. So and then Zayden trusts her,
- 44:02Speaker 3: and obviously they recondo the physical relationship as well as
- 44:04Speaker 3: their emotional one, and Zayden starts to begin to trust
- 44:08Speaker 3: her enough to join him on this group that she
- 44:15Speaker 3: that he's going with with these Griffin writers. He delivers
- 44:20Speaker 3: these smuggled daggers to help kill the vinin obviously, so
- 44:24Speaker 3: she joins in the group includes Zaden's ex girlfriend Cat, which,
- 44:30Speaker 3: let me tell you, drama drama, ex drama ex girlfriend
- 44:36Speaker 3: girl mm hmmmmm x and Theyden gives Cat, I'm sorry,
- 44:46Speaker 3: no thing gives Violet and uh dagger people killing the
- 44:51Speaker 3: Veno in Jess the case they come across him because
- 44:54Speaker 3: he's like, yeah, girl, you gotta be you gotta be prepared, ma'am.
- 44:57Speaker 3: So he made he makes a bunch of daggers for her,
- 45:01Speaker 3: so she has him on her at all times, but
- 45:03Speaker 3: she hides in her jacket, of course, and upon returning
- 45:06Speaker 3: to Besgayeth, Violet is ambushed by Verish, her best friend
- 45:14Speaker 3: using her secretly uses her telecanetic signet or telconic powers
- 45:20Speaker 3: to hide the dagger from Varish by but Violet is,
- 45:30Speaker 3: how do I okay, how do I put it? Telekinetic?
- 45:33Speaker 3: So basically telecanetic. I mean, obviously she took the dagger,
- 45:41Speaker 3: so Vera she's checking her bag and she's like checking
- 45:44Speaker 3: her jacket and bag and shit, and she's like, oh fuck,
- 45:46Speaker 3: I'm gonna get found out. So her friend, the ff
- 45:51Speaker 3: It's like uh no, and she takes the dagger, and
- 45:54Speaker 3: the dagger appears in the room with her with her friend,
- 45:58Speaker 3: and Barris has no idea, and she's like, I'm not
- 46:00Speaker 3: going to do that. I did not going to do that.
- 46:03Speaker 3: It is great. And now Violet has to tell Rion
- 46:08Speaker 3: and what's going on because obviously she's like, why are
- 46:11Speaker 3: you trying to hide this? I got your back, girl,
- 46:13Speaker 3: but why are you hiding this?
- 46:14Speaker 1: Now?
- 46:14Speaker 3: I gotta know? Now, I gotta know now, bitch, tell
- 46:17Speaker 3: me what it means. Bitch. She does, and Sawyer and Riddick,
- 46:24Speaker 3: which are more of friends, agreed to aid her in
- 46:26Speaker 3: her research on the first six to figure out how
- 46:29Speaker 3: to make words. So believing that a pair of valuable
- 46:34Speaker 3: journals written written by Warwick and LERA. Two of the
- 46:40Speaker 3: first six are hidden the vault in the Archives, which
- 46:44Speaker 3: can only be unlocked by someone from king from the
- 46:47Speaker 3: King's bloodline. Now who do we know from the king's bloodline?
- 46:54Speaker 3: Prince Cam, So Prince Cam. Violet gets Prince Cam to
- 46:59Speaker 3: come into all this bullshit, takes them to the hidden
- 47:02Speaker 3: vault in the archives, and they steal the journals, but
- 47:09Speaker 3: Violet is caught by Verish during the process and Prince
- 47:15Speaker 3: and the Prince is heavily harmed because they had like
- 47:18Speaker 3: a there was a trap they didn't count for, and
- 47:20Speaker 3: he got hurt pretty badly from them. But they got
- 47:23Speaker 3: the journals, but Verish got her ass, got her ass,
- 47:28Speaker 3: and Varius tortures Violet for five days and then brings
- 47:34Speaker 3: in Dane, who reads Violet's mind of the Venoin attack
- 47:41Speaker 3: kills Verish. Dane kills fucking Verish, like I was like,
- 47:45Speaker 3: oh he's dead. Oh, thank the gods, Praise the gods.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Be I hated that guy so of goddamn much. And
- 47:52Speaker 3: Dane fucking Nerve killed his ass and Zay didn't arrive
- 48:00Speaker 3: because they didn't realize is what the hell is going on.
- 48:02Speaker 3: It's like, oh, I don't fucking think so, so he
- 48:04Speaker 3: goes back trying to rescue her, and then they find
- 48:07Speaker 3: out about Dane saved her, and then they all rally
- 48:10Speaker 3: the students of buz Guy. It exposes them to the
- 48:12Speaker 3: truth of everything going on and a mass what they
- 48:18Speaker 3: call it exodus of the writers. So basically all the
- 48:21Speaker 3: writers like, fuck this place, We're leaving. So all the
- 48:23Speaker 3: students pack up their shit and they leave in the
- 48:26Speaker 3: middle of the goddamn night to join the rebellion against
- 48:29Speaker 3: the Venoin as well as to help our Tira Artira
- 48:36Speaker 3: or whatever. So they set up on a makeshift work
- 48:40Speaker 3: They set up a makeshift work college over outside of
- 48:46Speaker 3: the Wards and Mirrors, amongst a group of writers who
- 48:49Speaker 3: also abandoned the military outposts to join the rebellion so
- 48:53Speaker 3: they may so they take all these students make a
- 48:55Speaker 3: makeshift work college, and the people that left, like some
- 48:58Speaker 3: of the teachers, also left to so they still try
- 49:00Speaker 3: to do their lessons and stuff while doing all of
- 49:04Speaker 3: this because obviously the Dragon Writer the new Dragon Writers
- 49:07Speaker 3: are not fully prepared yet, so they still have to
- 49:11Speaker 3: obviously do their teaching, so they try to make make
- 49:14Speaker 3: what they got. So Violet translates part of the Warwick's journal,
- 49:18Speaker 3: but attempts to activate the Wardstone do not work. They
- 49:24Speaker 3: did not work. She tries to activate the warzone and
- 49:26Speaker 3: it does not work, and she's like, what the fuck?
- 49:28Speaker 3: How learning that?
- 49:35Speaker 1: Oh?
- 49:36Speaker 3: God them? Oh remember these names? How do you say
- 49:39Speaker 3: these names? Learning that? This count to Karus, a former
- 49:46Speaker 3: ally of thin resort In has a luxury that allows
- 49:55Speaker 3: the rebels to begin forming their own weapons. So there's
- 49:59Speaker 3: this guy. They have to butter up, this rich man.
- 50:02Speaker 3: They have to butter up to make to be able
- 50:04Speaker 3: to make their own weapons and ship. Violet flies to
- 50:07Speaker 3: the province of Cravolavola and God, these names, y'all very good.
- 50:17Speaker 3: I'm very good. Sure a lot of these names have
- 50:21Speaker 3: they're Gaelic.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Their Gaelic, so they would have Scottish.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Yeah, there's Scottish Gaelic, and it's pronunciations. I am so sorry.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I don't know the native tongue my mother language or
- 50:32Speaker 3: let me phrase that, one of my mother languages, so
- 50:35Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm pronouncing these words terribly right to apology.
- 50:40Speaker 3: But basically, she goes to a broker to make an
- 50:44Speaker 3: alliance with him, this rich man to get out to
- 50:47Speaker 3: get production of these weapons. As you learned that Cat
- 50:53Speaker 3: is this guy. Her Zaydan's ex girlfriend is this guy's niece, drama.
- 51:02Speaker 3: So and of course Kat was arranged with an arranged
- 51:05Speaker 3: marriage to be the betrothed to Zadan back when his
- 51:09Speaker 3: father was alive, who ended the engagement only a year previously,
- 51:16Speaker 3: so he broke it off. The broker agrees to give
- 51:22Speaker 3: them the luxury in exchange the limitary, sorry, luminary, that's
- 51:27Speaker 3: what it's called, luminary. Give them the luminary to help
- 51:31Speaker 3: make the weapons in exchange for the rebellions taking one
- 51:33Speaker 3: hundred griffin flyers back to the headquarters. So they so
- 51:45Speaker 3: here's the problem with them. The area they have to
- 51:48Speaker 3: fly through is very treacherous and it's only dragons can
- 51:54Speaker 3: only drive fly through it. Griffins don't have the wingspan
- 51:58Speaker 3: or the wing power or the height because the Griffins
- 52:01Speaker 3: can't fly as high as dragons can. So they had
- 52:04Speaker 3: to go buy it on foot with a bunch of
- 52:08Speaker 3: Griffins going through a mountain range just basically like the
- 52:11Speaker 3: Grand Canyon, with thin little walkways climbing up and down
- 52:15Speaker 3: mountains and shit. The whole works, and they have to
- 52:17Speaker 3: do it all on foot because the Griffins cannot fly
- 52:20Speaker 3: through that treacherous zone. Suspense was real, people died, Griffins
- 52:28Speaker 3: died but eventually didn't make it. Violet is of course
- 52:35Speaker 3: jealous of cats passed with Zaydan obviously this you know
- 52:38Speaker 3: ex girlfriend, before Zayden reassures her that his devotion to
- 52:45Speaker 3: her uh her other Violet's other Dragon wakes up a
- 52:53Speaker 3: weekends after an unusually long dreamless sleep. The Violet is
- 52:58Speaker 3: written with guilt after learning that the fight at Russin
- 53:01Speaker 3: where anadt where and Darna was forced to use her
- 53:06Speaker 3: powers to say Violet affected her growth and she will
- 53:10Speaker 3: never be able to bear a writer. So basically, the
- 53:14Speaker 3: fact that she woke up several times to help Violet
- 53:17Speaker 3: has stunted her growth to basically, she won't grow as
- 53:21Speaker 3: much more than what she is now, but she does,
- 53:24Speaker 3: she won't be big enough to have a writer.
- 53:27Speaker 2: She's supposed to be like a very rare type of
- 53:29Speaker 2: dragon too right.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Spoiler alert jump the gun that was towards the end
- 53:36Speaker 3: my doom Gune spoiler alert, my God, yes, but no
- 53:45Speaker 3: one else will. Someone at home right now is going damn,
- 53:49Speaker 3: he's spoiling it for me. Hasn't done that part yet,
- 53:53Speaker 3: Jacob gone anyway, dramatics aside. So Violet's stressed about and
- 54:04Speaker 3: Darna and her growth and the fact that's her fault
- 54:07Speaker 3: that the growth, her stunted growth is an issue. Now,
- 54:13Speaker 3: Violet enlists Dane's help and translating the journals, and the
- 54:18Speaker 3: two rekindle their friendship. So basically they work through their bullshit.
- 54:22Speaker 3: They work it out on the remix, y'all, and Dane
- 54:25Speaker 3: basically is like, Hey, I didn't know that my Dallas
- 54:28Speaker 3: gonna do some I would never stand it. And obviously
- 54:31Speaker 3: you kind of realize that he's not full of shit.
- 54:33Speaker 3: I mean, he's full of shit, but he's not a
- 54:35Speaker 3: total dick. He's kind of smart, you know. So you're like,
- 54:39Speaker 3: you know what, Dane, you coup? You coup? I mean,
- 54:42Speaker 3: I'm side eyeing you, but you coop we could. So
- 54:47Speaker 3: from there, they helped transcribe the journals and he promises
- 54:53Speaker 3: her that he did not know about the venen or
- 54:55Speaker 3: Nintendo hurting her of course, and during the training mission,
- 54:59Speaker 3: Violet cat And and Sulent Sloan are attacked by Verish's
- 55:05Speaker 3: dragon because Verus's dragon. Okay, tell you something. If a
- 55:11Speaker 3: dragon dies, the dragon writer dies, the dragon writer dies,
- 55:15Speaker 3: the dragon will still be alive, but the dragons will
- 55:18Speaker 3: be fucked up. So when he comes across Verish's dragon
- 55:23Speaker 3: seeking revenge on Violet for causing Verius' death, Anadyne obviously
- 55:28Speaker 3: intervenes and kills the dragon. Now, this dragon is huge.
- 55:31Speaker 3: I think this dragon was like a a yellow dragon.
- 55:35Speaker 3: I think it was some odd color. I think it
- 55:36Speaker 3: was a yellow dragon. But it was very like they
- 55:39Speaker 3: were going through caves and shit, and this dragon would
- 55:41Speaker 3: not let up. The dragon wanted to fucking kill them.
- 55:46Speaker 3: And Anna and Darna is like yeah, nah, and she
- 55:50Speaker 3: kills a little bit, kills the bitch, and Violet, coming
- 55:53Speaker 3: to a sudden realization about signets, finds out Zaydan has
- 55:57Speaker 3: been keeping a secret from her his second signet. I
- 56:04Speaker 3: don't remember what his first signet is though. No, his
- 56:06Speaker 3: first signet is he's able to control shadows. But he
- 56:09Speaker 3: has a second one. His second one.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Is that.
- 56:17Speaker 3: He's a mind reader. Don dun oh thing about mind
- 56:23Speaker 3: readers in Bezgayath in Navari. If someone has a signet
- 56:31Speaker 3: that develops as a mind reader, they can't control it,
- 56:34Speaker 3: and half the time they end up getting killed because
- 56:38Speaker 3: they're a risk that someone's a mind reader. They can't
- 56:41Speaker 3: control whose minds they read and how much information they get,
- 56:45Speaker 3: and he either drives them crazy or they learn about
- 56:50Speaker 3: secrets and shit that they should not learn. So half
- 56:52Speaker 3: the time, when someone starts developing signs of being a
- 56:55Speaker 3: mind reader, teachers kill you instantly, no question is you're dead.
- 57:01Speaker 3: You will get stabbed and be headed on the spot
- 57:04Speaker 3: in the classroom. So the fact that he as they
- 57:10Speaker 3: didn't hid this ability for so long on no one knowing.
- 57:16Speaker 3: Violet's like, what, although she's upset that obviously the secret
- 57:20Speaker 3: was kept from her. Obviously, he promises not to keep
- 57:23Speaker 3: any more secrets in the future, blah blah blah. You know,
- 57:25Speaker 3: well he could keeping more stecrets from.
- 57:27Speaker 2: You, babe, you know, accept this one thing that I
- 57:30Speaker 2: just can't talk about exactly.
- 57:33Speaker 3: And honestly, it kind of makes sense that he's a
- 57:35Speaker 3: mind reader because certain things in Book one kind of
- 57:38Speaker 3: indicate like, how how would he know that certain things
- 57:42Speaker 3: are happening? How would he know that violence at this
- 57:44Speaker 3: certain spot or whatever? Certain things when you look back
- 57:47Speaker 3: at the first book now makes sense that why he's
- 57:49Speaker 3: a mine reader because he yeah, it makes sense, Like,
- 57:53Speaker 3: oh interesting, okay, all right. So Violet realizes she has
- 58:06Speaker 3: misinterpreted a phrase in the journals about the word I
- 58:11Speaker 3: could mean the words all this is happening all at
- 58:14Speaker 3: the same time, blah blah blah. She's still trying to
- 58:16Speaker 3: figure out the damn word situation. However, the words soon
- 58:20Speaker 3: proved to be faulty, and Violet and the rebels flight
- 58:25Speaker 3: to Basgaiath, where the Vinoin are launching an attack, an
- 58:29Speaker 3: all out war attack. And Jack, so Jack, during this
- 58:36Speaker 3: whole book, when they find out that he's alive, he
- 58:38Speaker 3: actually ends up being kind of a good guy, kind
- 58:40Speaker 3: of He's like, cool, I saved you once, you saved me.
- 58:45Speaker 3: Blah blah blah. They kind of like, I got your
- 58:47Speaker 3: back once and that's it across the can I kill you?
- 58:51Speaker 2: That turns out quick bro quote and all that crap.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Yeah, So he ends up being somewhat of a good
- 58:57Speaker 3: guy and half a for like a half a second,
- 58:58Speaker 3: you're like, oh, why don't maybe think of your friends?
- 59:01Speaker 3: Turns out, Jackson Vinnon, I'm like, mother, you fucking sca.
- 59:09Speaker 3: So Jack is a vend and while hundreds of other
- 59:14Speaker 3: Venoin descend upon the college and engage the students in battle.
- 59:21Speaker 3: Descinia proves uh prefer to dig proves that basically shows
- 59:36Speaker 3: a correct translation of one of the journals revealing the
- 59:40Speaker 3: locations of the seven dragons that were crucial to the ritual.
- 59:49Speaker 3: Now the seven dragons, Uh, revealing the locations of the
- 59:58Speaker 3: seven dragons den for the ritual. Violet realizes that Ana Dyne,
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: whose scales originally seemed black because remember she was a
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: gold dragon, and then her scales turned black.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: She then they thought, oh cool, she's a black dragon. No, no, no,
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: she is not, because between her and her group, they
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: have all the dragons that are there that near needed
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: for the ritual. But they forgot about one one more
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: kind of dragon that only has one dragon Aad's den
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Ana Dyne and Darna, sorry not and I and Darna
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: is the only dragon of her kind. She is known
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: as the Onyx Dragon. She's the seventh She's from the
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: seventh den of the dragons. Violent nearly burns out attempting
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: to imbue the wards with her power, by her mother,
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: of course, stays her life. So they did find out,
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Oh shit, and Darna is the Fine is the new
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: is the seventh Dragon, Oh my god, and she's the
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: on ex Dragon, which is obviously is the name for
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: the next book, on Next Storm, because that's about more
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: about Darna, which I hope so love her. Love a queen,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: love an onyx queen. But they try to lift the wards,
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: or not lift the words, but try to put power
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: into the words while almost dies, but her mother comes
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: in and sacrifices her herself to lift the words, and
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: she dies in the so Violet.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Her just like her first, like her first and only
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: selfless act.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Pretty much because her mother was kind of her mother's
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: a bit or she was a bit, but they kind
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: of get understanding that the very was miss she rests
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: in peace. But Violet, it's like, okay, they kind of
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: have a mother daughter moment, and she kind of in
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: violent kind of realizes that maybe her mother wasn't that
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: wasn't as bad, and she kind of sees it everything
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: from her point of view too, so she's like, Okay,
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: maybe she wasn't as bad as I initially thought. But
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: she ends up dying to save her daughter, of course,
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: her youngest, and meanwhile, Zayden fights on the battlefield against
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: the Venin skip a stad he's blah blah blah blah. Meanwhile, yeah,
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: her mother dies. Meanwhile, during the fight with the Venin,
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Zayden fights on the battlefield against the vin Stage, who's
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: the Vince Stage is like the leader of the Venoin
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: writers or whatever. He's like their teacher quote unquote, because
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: they I guess they have like a school like system too,
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: where they where people learn how to be venin and shit.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: So he's fighting the leader, the head of it, and
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: who has he's plagued by nightmares that this guy's been
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: plaguing Zayden's nightmares. And then desperate attempt to save Violet,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Zayden channels Earth magic and to himself kills the Sage
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: at the very end, I mean, I fucking tell you something.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. I was like, oh no,
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: don't do this to me, Rebecca, Rebecca, I will buck
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: Oh Carl, I was. I'm so mad. I was raging
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: when I finished this book. Let me tell you Zadan
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: becomes a Venin. At the end of the book, it's
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: revealed that he's a venin because he had yes, because
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: he channeled into Earth magic to save the day, to
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: win the final battle and it turns out, oh now,
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: now now he's turned to a ven in. And I'm like, oh.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: So channeling into earth magic turned him into a ven
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Oh so he became a ven in.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: He became a venin. Ven are born or made. So
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: if you channeled from the earth, you become a ven in.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Because yeah, it's it's it's a mess. And I'm like,
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: we don't know it, answered the book, revealing on the
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: fact that he that he's actually a vent in. His
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: eyes changed and that's it. And the book answered, I'm like,
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: you mother fuckers, how dare you leave me on a
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: cliffhanger like that? And I got to weight over a year.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: I was so mad. I'm still mad. And the book
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: comes and the book comes out next month and I'm
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: still mad. Mhm. The book very good, I swear to God,
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: very good, because if it's not, I'm a rage. I mean,
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: very mad, very upset, very upset because that cliffhanger. How
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: dare you that's a crime. I hate crime to be exact.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: You go through all that, they figure out the words,
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: they say the day and then oh, Zada comes in
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: in me.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Well he becomes a venin. But they don't say that
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: he becomes an enemy.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: I'm hoping that do some fucking wocky shit and that
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Zayden ends up being like able to use the Venoin
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: shit for good. I'm hoping, you know, because.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: You never know, because there's a lot that they don't
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: know about the Venin too. Like, yeah, they create the
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Venoin created, uh can create why Burns, but like, there's
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: still a lot we don't know about the Vena in general,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: like their powers and things like that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: So that's that's a problem with these kind of societies
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: where they restrict information. It's just like you end up
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: learning that what we thought as like purely black and
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: white is more different shades of gray.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: Yeah. So so I'm hoping that's what happens, is that
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: by the end of the series, being considered venin or
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: having a wavern is not necessarily a bad thing. It's
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: just like the Griffins and the Dragons. So we'll see
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: that is So that's the end of Iron Flame. And
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: let me tell you, I like this book. I book
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: a lot. I liked this series. I want more. Of course,
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: the third book comes out early twenty twenty five, January
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: twenty first, and I think in total she has five
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: books planned out, so this is the third out of
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: five books being released for this series. So yeah, and
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: it looks like the book's gonna be a little shorter
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: than Iron Flame because Iron Flame is about six hundred
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: and twenty three pages, while Onyx Storm is only five
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: hundred and forty four. The Girl, Rebecca Girl, don't play me,
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: don't play me? This book, Baby, fuck this book. Bear
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: fucking slap, I remember you slapping the next fucking Tuesday
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: with his book. Also, if I haven't said it before,
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: they do plan on making a Amazon series for this,
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: I also exlarted be fucking better. I would love to
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: see a show based on these books.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: I feel like it's going to be a while before
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: we get an actual show because this is still a
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: very new book series. But then again, that's not It's
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: not unheard of for like very new book series to
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: be instantly adapted into a movie or TV show, right,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: But it's all the first adaptations are always gonna be
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: the worst. I will say that the first time they
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: adapt the show, the book into a show or a movie,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: it's going to be the worst. And there's very few exceptions.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Like Harry Potter is one of the few exceptions, and
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: the Wheel of Time is kind of a bit of both.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Because season one of the Wheel of Time show was
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: actually pretty garbage. It was hot garbage. If you look
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: at it and you compare it to the overall story,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: it's hot garbage. But then you get into season two
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: and that's when they're they become more faithful to the characters,
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: more faithful to the original story. It's still they're still
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: taking their own like a different They're still going in
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: a somewhat different direction, but it is definitely gotten so
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: much better. Like for sure, they improved Matt's character because
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Matt's character, Matt was just a pure scumbag in the
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: first in the first yeah, he sure was. And then
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: in the second season he they they they with the recast.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: They the guy that recast him with really captured Matt's
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: playful nature. And I enjoyed it and I'm glad that
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: they did went in that direction with him, even though
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Matt is still my least favorite character in general. But awesome.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: And now Real Time season three is coming out in March,
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: and I'm like, why does that to be in mar
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: That's still three and a half months away. Okay, I
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: can wait I'm patient, Not really, but I'm patient. I
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: can wait.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: So what's funny about the series The Imperiance, The Imperiance series.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: I was right, So apparently this book obviously is more
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: targeted towards women, but oddly enough, the second book has
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: gotten a lot of love from a male audience, surprisingly enough,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: And I'm just like, ooh, so obviously Iron Flame is
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: considered a romanticy, a romance fantasy.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: A romance fantasy.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Romanticy is what they call it. And it's obviously the
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: series the Romanticy is highly written by women and marketed
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: for women, but Iron Flame has gotten a lot appeal
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: from a male audience because of the obviously the dragon
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: dragon culture. Obviously because Game of Thrones. They I mean
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: the way I'm reading here, they reference Game of Thrones,
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: and that because of the love of Game of Thrones,
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: that male audience has been pulled into the series, especially
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: with the second book. And I'm like, you know, what,
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: do you see it? It's good. The second book is
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: a lot more action and a lot more drama, not
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: as much of the school vibe. You become more of
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: a worldview. Grandad didn't go over every single little plot
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: point in the book because we're not gonna be here
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: all day. Yeah, yeah, read the book.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: That happens with every with pretty much any book series
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: you read, the first book is always going to set
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: up the pretty much the overall setting of this world
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: that we're going to be exploring in the story, and
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: the second book just kind of takes off and focuses
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: more on the story and the characters, the action rather
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: than the world itself. I mean, you'll still get like
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: that world building, but at the same time, it's just like,
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: well you have then the foundation was said in book one,
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: now book two and onward, as is it going to
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: be focused more on the story itself and building more
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: on the world rather than just like every detail of
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: the setting.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Yeah, which I love, want more more. I would love
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: for the fourth book to come out this year, but
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: I doubt it because I because she also is like, yeah,
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: I'm most slow down writing because writing two books in
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: one years a lot, and I'm like, girl, girl, I
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: believe that that sounds like a lot. So we'll see
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: if she releases the fourth one this or if it's
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: going to be or are in twenty twenty five or
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: It's probably gonna be in twenty twenty six.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Most likely unless you spent the last few years writing
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: both books. Who knows, so you know that is the
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: iron flame again in the script, if you want to
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: listen to the Fourth Wing episode, please go do so
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: great as well.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: Listen to it, listen to it on audible, watch it,
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: go read it. Yeah, go, like, pick up an actual
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: copy and read it. Like I'm always going to advocate
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: for reading the actual like the actual books over the audiobooks,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: but you know, people have their preferences, so you do
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: you boo.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: I listened to audiobooks and I actually have a fiscal
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: copy of the book, so.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: I have neither, and I know and I and I
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: know the story anyway. Anyway, I'm just I'm just I'm
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: just giving you ship anyway. So thank you for listening.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Uh like the neat se Devin, you gave me the ugly.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: I grove you the ugly.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Anyway, thank you for listening. In today. Next week we're
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: gonna be starting on another book series. This one is
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: one I've been wanting to do for a while. Now
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: we're gonna be We're gonna be reviewing the first book
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: in Cassandra Cassandra Claire's uh shadow Hunters universe. We're gonna
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: be reviewing book one of the Mortal Instruments, the City
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: of Bones and Day. Yes, so if you liked the
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Irish setting of Iron Flame, then you're definitely gonna love
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Cassandra Claire's novels because she takes a lot of inspiration
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: from not only the Abrahamic religions, but also from Celtic
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: mythology because oh that's mine. Okay, sorry, no, my cousin
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: borrowed my car and he uh just got back and
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: he set off the car alarm and I'm just like,
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: what are you doing? Anyway? So anyway, so Cassandra Klaire's
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: mustrument series, the shadow Hunter novels, they are death They're
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: still within the young they're still within that young adult category,
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: but they are very similar to Rick Yordan's work for
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: the Percy Jackson series and his you know Demi gods
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: because hers, the shadow Hunters are Nephelim, who are the
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: half human, half angel, half angel descendants and ah, they
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: it's a whole world where these shadow Hunters police the world,
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: protects humanity from the down world. So like you know,
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: the monsters and demons of every culture imaginable, and it's
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: an interesting take on the shadow It's an interesting take
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: on the Nephilim because whereas the original biblical Nephilim were
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: not only giants, but they were also literally half human
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: half angels, the Shadow Hunters are only demi angels. They're
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: not really like actual like children of angels and humans.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: They're humans that have been given angelic blood by an
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: archangel name Razil, and because of this, they're imbued with
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: his power. They were given tools that would help him
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: fight demons as well as the children of demons, so
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: that that includes vampires, werewolves, warlocks who are actual half demons,
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: like half human half demons, and you also have fay,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: so the fay are all have a big role in
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: the shadow in the shadow Hunter verse. So fay are
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: often considered like the popular culture version of Nephelum, which
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: is like half angel, half demon. So that's that's Cassandra's
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: Claire's take on the Fay and she even talks about
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: the Cely and un Seily courts. She doesn't like in
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: the original Mortal Instrument series. She doesn't really go that
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: deep into the Fay lore like you encounter the Faye.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: They're Fay characters, but it's more focused on the shadow
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Hunters themselves and some of their friends, you know, both
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: human and downworlder as they call the not the Hat
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: the demi human denizens of the world. And it's a
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: really I like, I enjoyed this book. I enjoy the
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: overall theme, and it's definitely it's gonna fall under the
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: young adult cheesy romance action cheesy romance story, but it's definitely.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: It was definitely popular. It was adapted into a movie
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: as well as TV show. Movie was garbage, sure was.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: TV show was more faithful to the story, but it
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: had like an interesting modern take to it. So it
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: was definitely a lot better and I enjoyed it, and
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I definitely enjoyed it. I wish they had gone further
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: with it, but unfortunately that show got canceled. But hey,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: it it's a great series. It's definitely it's a good series.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: It has had multiple spin offs from Dark Artifices the
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Infernal Devices, and I believe that a new one. I
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: forgot what the new series is called, but it's definitely
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: following the whole like artifact type vibe, you know, instruments devices.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: So we're gonna be talking about this book series. I mean,
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: Jacob's more going to lead that probably than me, but
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: I will chime in because they're gonna be reading. We're
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: going to be reading this story in two different from
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: two different directions. That makes sense.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: I read the original books as they are.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he's read the original books as they are are. Red,
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: You're not rereading them. You read them already.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: I've read them like, I've read them a while ago,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: and I reread them because they were that good of
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: a story, one of one of those stories where you
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: could definitely go back and reread. Devin is gonna Devin
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: is going to take a crack at reading the graphic
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: novels and manga.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, because they have recently a graphic Noveloks. I knew
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: about the Infernal Devices manga, and I've read I think
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: the first one of that. I need to go back.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: I read them obviously, Yeah, but I know about the
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Infernal Devices, and relatively recently, within the last couple of years,
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: they started doing the Mortal Instruments and right now they
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: have the up to the first four books. Yeah, but
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: the first four books done in the graphic novel or manga.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: So I'm going to start reading those because I've always
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: wanted to get into the world of the Shadow Hunters.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: I just never knew really where to start because from
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: when I read of the Infernal Devices, I liked it.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: Yeah that's okay, series, it.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Was bugging me. So I looked up what the newest
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: series was and it's, uh, The Last Hours.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: The Last Hours.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely got to go back and read it.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: I think it's going to be I think this one
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: is going to be back from Nope, it's so I'm
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: a different it's from somebody else's perspective, Okay, Yeah, after
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: the Mortal Instruments, the characters, it's no longer going to
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: be with the characters we are familiar with, maybe from
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: different characters perspectives, but.
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: But yeah, the author of the series loves graphic novels,
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: so she was real excited to get graphic novel graphic
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: novel and or manga adaptations of her stories. She's all
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: for it, apparently, big advocate for it. She's always she's
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: always wanted a good one, but she's ever had one
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: that completed the story until the Infernal Devices, and then
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: of course the one that's happening right now for the
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: Mortal Instruments, but sadly they only ever the only really
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: it's like a book or two a year, so I
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: don't know if I'm gonna be able to complete the
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: whole series before he gets to those books five and six.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: Well we'll see, but.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: All that, Yeah, definitely, the first couple of volumes I
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: think are just for the City of Bones alone.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: First. I think it's divided up into the first two books.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: The first two volumes are the is the first book.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: Next two volumes are the second book. I think they're
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: up the volume eight ring. It seems to be like
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: every two or three volumes that it's it's the next.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Book, and there's like six there's six books in the
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: Mortal Instruments. Five or six books in the Mortal Instruments.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: So it's a long story. Not gonna lie. It's like,
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: this is the longest story in hers series because every
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: after the Mortal Instruments, all the other ones have just
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: been trilogies. They haven't been as lengthy or as in depth.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: And I definitely want to go back and read it,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: like The Infernal Devices, starting with Clockwork Print Clockwork Angel,
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Yeah, I have that one and I keep
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: reading it, but for some reason, like I guess I'm
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: just not that into that one as the others, because
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: I've I like, I went back and checked, like how
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: far in the book I got for Clockwork, Angel says,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: I finished it, and I'm like, I have no idea
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: what it's about, Like I haven't a general I have
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: a general idea, but I totally forgot like what it
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: was about. I must have like skimmed through the book.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: But I'm gonna definitely go back and reread it and
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: like absorb, soak up the the story because I got
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: through the Dark Artifa Artifices, and I remember the story
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: for the Artifice Dark Artifices, and I definitely remember the
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: story of the Mortal Instruments. But Clockwork print, the clockwork,
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: the Infernal Devices. I guess it's because it's set in
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: the Victorian era England.
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and Victorian era.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Victoria era England is probably one of my least favorite
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: like genres there, like that type of punk, it's never seen.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: I've never been that into steampunk Victorian like steampunk. It's
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: just never been I've never really found it interesting.
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: But yeah, we'll talk about the Infernal Devices because I'm
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: going to reread those where we read the manga. We're
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: finished reading the mong because I've probably read the first
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: one because those books came out in like the late
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: two something like the early early twenty ten when it
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: came out. Never went back and finished it when they
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: finished the manga. So but that one, they only have
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: three volumes. Each volume is one of the books, so
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: that'll be an easy read. But yeah, so thank you
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: all for listening today's episode. Catch the next time as
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: we start the Immortal Instruments, not mortal, not immortal, mortal, mortal,
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: mortal instruments. Until then, such a mess.
