- 0:03Speaker 1: What's up. I'm back, Kratz, Broun, Prazinski. Hey, AJ. Since
- 0:08Speaker 1: yesterday's show, the Fromber suspension news came out, you guys
- 0:13Speaker 1: covered it great, So thoughts on the actual number before
- 0:17Speaker 1: we get into some other biz and how it went
- 0:20Speaker 1: from six to him immediately saying cool, I'll take five
- 0:23Speaker 1: on a deal, and then basically not miss any time
- 0:28Speaker 1: for what he called was unfair right, completely unfair treatment
- 0:33Speaker 1: from the umpires. Uh for throwing fastball for the first time.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Five games is nothing he basically just gets. I'm sure
- 0:41Speaker 2: they'll mix it in where he hasn't. They have an
- 0:42Speaker 2: off day one of these days, and he won't even
- 0:44Speaker 2: miss a start. And dude, by the way, yes, I
- 0:48Speaker 2: know it was his first forcing fastball. We beat this
- 0:50Speaker 2: to death yesterday. Whether he was throwing at him because
- 0:52Speaker 2: they were given signs or whether he was throwing on
- 0:54Speaker 2: him his piss because he was getting whack. Either way,
- 0:57Speaker 2: you know it was wrong, and he threw a Trevor
- 1:01Speaker 2: story and he should have gotten longer. If they want
- 1:03Speaker 2: to get this out of the game, if they're not
- 1:04Speaker 2: gonna allow him to fight and they're not going to
- 1:07Speaker 2: let teams retaliate, then you got to give them longer
- 1:09Speaker 2: than five games. I'm sorry, it's got to be at
- 1:11Speaker 2: least seven or eight to stop the to make the
- 1:14Speaker 2: team hurt, because five games are like, oh, we'll just
- 1:16Speaker 2: give him an extra day off and he'll come back
- 1:18Speaker 2: in six days and probably go out and pitch well.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So I disagree with this, but again I'm not in
- 1:23Speaker 2: Major League Baseball.
- 1:24Speaker 3: They have different thoughts than I do. Yeah, they're not
- 1:27Speaker 3: clearly looking to set a precedent here. They're just doing
- 1:30Speaker 3: the status quo with the suspension. And he did throw
- 1:37Speaker 3: at him, but I did look it up. Not only
- 1:39Speaker 3: has he only thrown one this year, he's thrown six
- 1:41Speaker 3: four seam fastballs in the last in the last two years.
- 1:46Speaker 3: So I would like to see if any of those
- 1:47Speaker 3: other four seamers hit anybody.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Just checking, well, I did this backup plan, Yeah, the
- 1:55Speaker 1: backup planning.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It was his backup plan. And what they were hitting
- 1:58Speaker 2: the two seamer. To throw a four seamer right between
- 2:00Speaker 2: the one and the zero of Trevor Story, that was
- 2:02Speaker 2: his backup plan.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's a choice, it's a backup plan. When you're getting
- 2:07Speaker 1: lit up for ten runs. That is one way to
- 2:10Speaker 1: do a backup plan. It looked like I think it
- 2:13Speaker 1: was what two four seamers in the past two or
- 2:15Speaker 1: three years, and they both hit dudes, So that was
- 2:18Speaker 1: when he.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Was one of them hit. Did one of them hit
- 2:21Speaker 2: his catcher? Just wondering.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That's not including that good call in the last year too.
- 2:27Speaker 1: This is official now, two four seam fastballs and they
- 2:31Speaker 1: both drilled dudes.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Maybe he should maybe he should mix in a sinker
- 2:37Speaker 3: when he's going to hit somebody.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, just to try and hide it a
- 2:42Speaker 1: little bit more. He is not hiding it except in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the postgame when he was stating out it's so on fair,
- 2:49Speaker 1: it's so on fair. All right, I'm done with this.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Let's let's move on to something.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Somebody you get ejected. I mean, it's so unfair. It's
- 2:55Speaker 2: just so. It doesn't it's so I'm just so unfair.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, back to back homers and you chuck baseball at
- 3:03Speaker 1: someone like a weapon, and it's on fair, So on fair.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Life is tough. Let's go over a team that's surprising
- 3:09Speaker 1: the world right now.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Charging.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, we're charging the mound with the Rays. They are
- 3:16Speaker 1: twelve and one in their last thirteen games, and they've
- 3:19Speaker 1: given up seventeen runs during that stretch. They shut out
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Blue Jays and completed the sweep against them, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: AJ three to nothing win for Tampa Bay. The pitching
- 3:30Speaker 1: is shining, the hitting is definitely doing enough. And do
- 3:33Speaker 1: you think the Rays are legit in the American League East? Like,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I guess you can start this way. How do you
- 3:39Speaker 1: stack up the way you see the Ale East right now?
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, I still think the Yankees are the class of
- 3:45Speaker 2: the East, but I think that the the Rays, the
- 3:48Speaker 2: way they're pitching, are not far behind. I think you know,
- 3:52Speaker 2: they don't score a ton of runs the Rays, I'm
- 3:54Speaker 2: looking at it right now, they're in the lower half
- 3:58Speaker 2: of their below average, but they score sorry four point
- 4:02Speaker 2: four to two runs per game. But they're pitching is
- 4:05Speaker 2: what has been unbelievably good. They're pitching is crazy good.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Right now.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They're fourth in the league with a three and a
- 4:13Speaker 2: half VRA. And if you have Shane McClanahan and some
- 4:16Speaker 2: of the other guys they have starting for him, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: then their bullpen, which has kind of been mixing match,
- 4:21Speaker 2: but Baker has taken over the back end have been
- 4:22Speaker 2: really good. But plus they throw some other guys in
- 4:25Speaker 2: there for saves. This is kind of how the Rays
- 4:27Speaker 2: have always been built. Real good pitching, real good defense.
- 4:30Speaker 2: We'll mix and match, we'll define the matchups, will win
- 4:32Speaker 2: on the margins, and then hopefully we get enough hitting.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And when they get enough hitting is the years they're
- 4:36Speaker 2: really good. And right now they're getting enough hitting to
- 4:38Speaker 2: be really good.
- 4:40Speaker 3: It's enough hitting and we can get into the hitting.
- 4:42Speaker 3: But as every time everybody brings up pitching, especially when
- 4:46Speaker 3: it's not just starting pitching or just relief pitching on
- 4:50Speaker 3: a team, you bring up the defense. They're seventh in
- 4:54Speaker 3: defensive runs saved on the year. Now they have some
- 4:57Speaker 3: places where around the field that are a little below average,
- 5:01Speaker 3: but shortstop, I think they're second in the league in
- 5:06Speaker 3: defensive run saved outfield. Two of the outfield positions they're
- 5:11Speaker 3: right up there, center field and left field. So they're
- 5:13Speaker 3: putting guys in positions to succeed. And the whole like
- 5:17Speaker 3: hitting enough hitting, Like are they doing are they playing
- 5:21Speaker 3: winning hitting? Yeah, because they don't have enough. They don't
- 5:25Speaker 3: have enough power up and down their lineup. When they
- 5:27Speaker 3: get rid of Brandon Lau, when Josh Lowe was supposed
- 5:30Speaker 3: to be a guy and he's gone like, where's their
- 5:33Speaker 3: power coming from? One guy Kim and Air Like that's great,
- 5:38Speaker 3: But if they're not going to succeed with power, what
- 5:41Speaker 3: do you have to do. You have to put the
- 5:42Speaker 3: ball in play. You have to be able to make
- 5:45Speaker 3: enough contact on pitches that are going to give you,
- 5:51Speaker 3: you know, maybe move the runner, maybe maybe get the
- 5:53Speaker 3: job done. I think I think it's something that this
- 5:57Speaker 3: team is always you never count them out, even when
- 6:02Speaker 3: nobody picked them for the playoffs before the year. You
- 6:04Speaker 3: never count them out because they're not afraid to do
- 6:07Speaker 3: the little things to be able to give them a
- 6:09Speaker 3: chance to win the game. And when you have a
- 6:11Speaker 3: pitching staff that gives up seventeen runs in the last
- 6:13Speaker 3: thirteen games, you're in every single game. So a bunt
- 6:17Speaker 3: to move a runner over does matter. A ground ball
- 6:20Speaker 3: to the right side to move a runner over does matter.
- 6:22Speaker 3: And those are the things, along with some base running
- 6:25Speaker 3: that helps you win in the margins when the games
- 6:27Speaker 3: are close.
- 6:30Speaker 2: One thing I'll say about this team is they do
- 6:32Speaker 2: have a little bit of power. Jimmer Caernaro, Jonathan Ronda
- 6:35Speaker 2: have been good, Yondi Diaz has been good. But the
- 6:38Speaker 2: one thing they do do, which is one thing they've
- 6:40Speaker 2: always done, is they take the extra base. They have
- 6:42Speaker 2: Chandler Simpson at the top of the order that is
- 6:44Speaker 2: causing havoc if he gets on base. Cedric Mullins is
- 6:47Speaker 2: having a better year this year for them, right, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: Walls and some of these other guys. They get on
- 6:53Speaker 2: base and they cause a little havoc because they'll run
- 6:56Speaker 2: and they'll put pressure on other teams. But then they
- 6:58Speaker 2: hit the home run, and they have a lot of
- 7:00Speaker 2: guys that seem to get key hits for them, which
- 7:02Speaker 2: is what they need if they're going to continue to
- 7:05Speaker 2: be good and stay in this race, which they've had
- 7:07Speaker 2: to because the Yankees have been really good also, so
- 7:10Speaker 2: I think they have staying power because they're pitching.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Now.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Would I love for the Rays to go out and
- 7:14Speaker 2: find a bat or two. Yes, I think they could
- 7:16Speaker 2: be unbelievably good, like to the point where they could
- 7:19Speaker 2: contend possibly for a World Series, But we also don't
- 7:22Speaker 2: know that they'll do that. But I just love the
- 7:24Speaker 2: way they play team baseball. Kevin Cash is a guy
- 7:27Speaker 2: that just gets it as a manager. He knows how
- 7:29Speaker 2: to mix some masks. Chad Mattola, they're they're hitting coach Snider.
- 7:33Speaker 2: They're pitching coach. These guys have been there for a
- 7:35Speaker 2: long time. They know what Kevin Cash wants, they know
- 7:36Speaker 2: the kind of team they want, and they put this
- 7:38Speaker 2: together with Neander Eric Neander and now they have a
- 7:42Speaker 2: team that's rolling. Where they won twelve out of thirteen
- 7:44Speaker 2: I think something like that, and they are nipping at
- 7:46Speaker 2: the Yankee heels. Let's talk love life ft family. I
- 7:53Speaker 2: know it's an important part of everyone's life, but if
- 7:55Speaker 2: you need help, or if you don't gluech you Gold

- 8:41Speaker 1: Visit blue you dot com for more details and important
- 8:44Speaker 1: safety information, and we thank blue ch You for sponsoring
- 8:47Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I saw this. I saw this in person when I
- 8:53Speaker 3: played there for I don't even know five weeks, however
- 8:56Speaker 3: long it was there, Like we had two different homes series,
- 9:01Speaker 3: and in those home series, when teams go out and
- 9:03Speaker 3: do their PFPS, they would do out, go out and
- 9:05Speaker 3: do a team fundamental and both times they tried took
- 9:11Speaker 3: five to ten minutes trying something that, as Kevin Cash
- 9:14Speaker 3: put it, we're trying something I don't know if it's
- 9:17Speaker 3: gonna work. We want to see what it looks like
- 9:19Speaker 3: on the field, see how the guys take to it.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Like the one day it was first and third, they're
- 9:25Speaker 3: trying to pick to third when they know the runner
- 9:28Speaker 3: is going and they wanted to see how fast their
- 9:30Speaker 3: third baseman could catch the ball and relay it to second.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And I'm like, what are we doing here? Like this
- 9:38Speaker 3: was something in all my years I'd never seen it,
- 9:40Speaker 3: but they were like, let's see how fast let's see
- 9:43Speaker 3: how fast we can do it, so that if you
- 9:46Speaker 3: have a guy that just automatic first, first, and third,
- 9:50Speaker 3: the guy on first just goes as soon as you
- 9:52Speaker 3: pick your foot up. It's because they banned the third
- 9:55Speaker 3: to first move for pitchers. Maybe you can get the
- 9:58Speaker 3: guy at second. And they're like, eh, I've never seen
- 10:01Speaker 3: them do it actually in a game, but it's something
- 10:03Speaker 3: that they weren't afraid to try. And you're not afraid
- 10:06Speaker 3: to put a tailor Walls out there, who has been
- 10:08Speaker 3: one of the best defensive run save shortstops out there,
- 10:12Speaker 3: and they really want Carson Williams, who's in the minor leagues,
- 10:15Speaker 3: to take the job. But neither of them are hitting.
- 10:18Speaker 3: But yet they're getting a ton of value out of
- 10:21Speaker 3: the defensive position of shortstop, and they hope the offense
- 10:24Speaker 3: from somewhere else comes along.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And what they have to do is figure out ways
- 10:30Speaker 1: that they can be different from the rest of the league.
- 10:33Speaker 1: They did that for a while, then the league copied them,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and this was over a long term stretch. Right, the
- 10:38Speaker 1: league got much smarter. They didn't have those same advantages.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Now you look at some of the things that the Rays
- 10:44Speaker 1: used to value and you're like, Wow, they're kind of
- 10:45Speaker 1: going the other direction. Look at the strikeout number. They're
- 10:49Speaker 1: twenty seventh in Baseball out of thirty teams in punch
- 10:52Speaker 1: outs from their pitching staff. One example is Nick Martinez
- 10:56Speaker 1: absolutely dealing and awesome signing for them. So far this year,
- 10:59Speaker 1: he's got an one seven to one ERA in his
- 11:02Speaker 1: first seven starts, He's punched out twenty eight hitters in
- 11:04Speaker 1: forty two innings. That's a pretty low k rate over
- 11:07Speaker 1: nine and hit a strikeout percentage low two. Right, If
- 11:10Speaker 1: that's the stat you're going off of, so that's working,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you utilize the defense. Let me show you a tweet
- 11:15Speaker 1: with one of the other potential inefficiencies that they think
- 11:19Speaker 1: they're finding that the rest of the league is being
- 11:21Speaker 1: a little bit too textbook with Inosires pointed out that
- 11:26Speaker 1: the Rays as a team have the flattest swings in baseball,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and this is not him telling a story. This is
- 11:31Speaker 1: statistically where they're measuring where the bats are and they're
- 11:34Speaker 1: able to do that so much better these days based
- 11:36Speaker 1: on the stackcast data. He said, from what I've seen,
- 11:39Speaker 1: having a flat bat path is good for hitting fastballs,
- 11:42Speaker 1: decent for contact overall, not always the best for slugging,
- 11:45Speaker 1: particularly down in the zone. So AJ playing to your point,
- 11:50Speaker 1: this team making contact at the Ray times. They do
- 11:52Speaker 1: have some power guys like Junior Camenero also has the
- 11:56Speaker 1: one of the top bats beat bat speeds and Baseball
- 11:59Speaker 1: and they're a cool little visual of what he's able
- 12:02Speaker 1: to do. One of the fastest and flattest swings. But
- 12:05Speaker 1: do you think that the Rays are emphasizing stuff like
- 12:07Speaker 1: this as a ball club and an organization while other
- 12:10Speaker 1: orgs are still in more of the launch angle mode.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I think that what they're doing is they're looking at
- 12:16Speaker 2: the people they have and trying to maximize it and say, hey,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you need a flatter swing. Junior Kemen Arrow can hit
- 12:21Speaker 2: home runs with this. Yanni Diaz Aroanda, they can hit
- 12:24Speaker 2: home runs doing this. But they've also said every team
- 12:27Speaker 2: is throwing as high fastballs. We can't have the loopy
- 12:30Speaker 2: swing because everyone team is trying to run the four
- 12:32Speaker 2: seamer ride balls up. So how do we combat that?
- 12:35Speaker 2: And that's what they've done. The Rays have always been
- 12:36Speaker 2: one of the first and fastest teams to adjust everything
- 12:41Speaker 2: that's happening in baseball started with Joe Madden. When Joe
- 12:43Speaker 2: Madden was there and is carried over to Kevin Cash.
- 12:45Speaker 2: They adjust in their front office and their coaching staff
- 12:48Speaker 2: adjust to what's happening in the game. They've been one
- 12:50Speaker 2: of the best at it for years and this is
- 12:52Speaker 2: just one of those things where they know they're getting
- 12:54Speaker 2: a lot of high fastballs. We can't have a lot
- 12:56Speaker 2: of guys that have the certain guy the doopy swing
- 12:59Speaker 2: right that certain guys have. We need guys that have
- 13:03Speaker 2: flatter swings that can get to the high fastball and
- 13:05Speaker 2: make more contact. And again, if you have a bunch
- 13:07Speaker 2: of fast guys that can't really hit the ball out
- 13:09Speaker 2: of the park, why are you gonna try to make
- 13:11Speaker 2: him hit thirty home runs when they can't do it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Take advantage of the strengths of the players you have,
- 13:16Speaker 2: and that's what the Rays have always been good at.
- 13:18Speaker 3: I play with Yandy Diaz back in twenty seventeen when
- 13:22Speaker 3: he was a Guardian's farm hand. He was up and
- 13:24Speaker 3: down kind of play for the Guardians, got traded over
- 13:27Speaker 3: to the Rays and it's taken off. I played with
- 13:29Speaker 3: Chad Mattola, the hitting coach, and I talked to Chad about, Okay, well,
- 13:33Speaker 3: what's changed. He's like nothing's changed that much. All we
- 13:36Speaker 3: did was talk about, well, what does it take with
- 13:39Speaker 3: his swing, with Yondy's swing, not the swing that Chad
- 13:42Speaker 3: taught him or the swing that other players are doing.
- 13:45Speaker 3: With Yondi's swing, what does he need to do to
- 13:48Speaker 3: be able to drive the ball more still wanted him to.
- 13:51Speaker 3: He had one of the lowest launch angles on our
- 13:53Speaker 3: team in twenty seventeen. Hit so many balls, so many
- 13:58Speaker 3: balls to the right side through that whole, to the
- 14:00Speaker 3: point where Louisville he played eighteen times a year. The
- 14:03Speaker 3: Reds Triple A shifted him like a left handed pull hitter,
- 14:08Speaker 3: and then he hit a ball to the left side
- 14:10Speaker 3: just because they weren't there, Like he is a really,
- 14:13Speaker 3: really good hitter that when he got to the Rays,
- 14:15Speaker 3: they just talked about catch the ball out front a
- 14:18Speaker 3: little bit every once in a while, catch the ball
- 14:20Speaker 3: a little farther out front with your swing, and that's
- 14:22Speaker 3: how you elevate it, not by swinging up. He has
- 14:26Speaker 3: great contact rate, He has incredible zone discipline, and they
- 14:30Speaker 3: just said, do you and maybe add just a little tweak.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and look what he's putting together. So a special
- 14:40Speaker 1: start for the race. They are twenty four and twelve.
- 14:43Speaker 1: While we're doing.
- 14:44Speaker 2: This, Scott, let me say this also if I can.
- 14:48Speaker 2: You know, we talked about Anthony Volpie getting sent down
- 14:51Speaker 2: right all the time, right, And what's the one thing,
- 14:53Speaker 2: what's the one knock on Anthony Volpi that we've kind
- 14:57Speaker 2: of always said he strikes out too much? Right swing,
- 15:00Speaker 2: he's trying to hit thirty five home runs. Well, if
- 15:03Speaker 2: Anthony Volpi would go a little flatter. And I'm just
- 15:05Speaker 2: using him because he's someone we've told everyone talks about
- 15:08Speaker 2: all the time. Right. So if you have Anthony Voltan,
- 15:10Speaker 2: you have Taylor Walls, and you tell Taylor Walls, hey,
- 15:13Speaker 2: we need you to hit thirty homers. We need you
- 15:15Speaker 2: to back leg and go underneath the walls. Guess what,
- 15:17Speaker 2: Taylor wall is probably not gonna be a very good player.
- 15:19Speaker 2: But you tell Taylor Walls, hey, we need you to
- 15:21Speaker 2: be flat and your You know, your power is speed
- 15:23Speaker 2: and getting on base and contact. Now, I'm not saying
- 15:26Speaker 2: this is what it can happen to Anthony Volpi, but
- 15:28Speaker 2: you take away, hey, we have to have you hit
- 15:30Speaker 2: thirty home runs even though you were a smaller guy.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It doesn't work for everybody the race. Figure out what
- 15:36Speaker 2: you do really well, and they make you even better
- 15:39Speaker 2: at it. And that's why the Rays have had success.
- 15:41Speaker 2: They find a pitcher in the bullpen, Hey, you have
- 15:43Speaker 2: a really good slider. Now they'll make you throw one
- 15:45Speaker 2: hundred percent sliders till your arm falls off. But for
- 15:48Speaker 2: those year or two you'll be really good because they
- 15:50Speaker 2: figure out what you're good at and they emphasize it.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah. We brought up Robert Stevenson the other day. They
- 15:56Speaker 1: made him a ton of money.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And then they don't want to make everybody the same though, Right,
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's the other thing about the race. They let you
- 16:03Speaker 2: be yourself, and they let you be you, and they
- 16:06Speaker 2: find what you're good at and then they make it
- 16:07Speaker 2: better and they emphasize it. And that's what makes you
- 16:10Speaker 2: a big league player for them.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Add it all up, they have the second best record
- 16:14Speaker 1: in the American League. I asked aj about this, Kratz,
- 16:16Speaker 1: what do you think are the Rays legit? Do you
- 16:18Speaker 1: think they're going to make the playoffs this year?
- 16:22Speaker 3: I don't. I don't. I don't think it's a sustainable,
- 16:29Speaker 3: a sustainable way to make it through an entire season.
- 16:33Speaker 3: But if there is a team, I think it's one
- 16:36Speaker 3: of those things that they're going to be battling for
- 16:38Speaker 3: that wildcard position for the whole year, and I think
- 16:43Speaker 3: it's gonna be I think they're gonna have the toughest
- 16:45Speaker 3: time of any American League wildcard team because they have
- 16:49Speaker 3: to play the East, and I think the bottom three
- 16:51Speaker 3: in the East are going to start playing some better,
- 16:55Speaker 3: but not a ton better. So I really think it's
- 16:59Speaker 3: it's something that they're going to battle for that the
- 17:01Speaker 3: whole year because where is that pitching going to be
- 17:05Speaker 3: able to be sustained to the level because the hitting's
- 17:08Speaker 3: not there right now, and if they have to like
- 17:11Speaker 3: come on and get hot, I just don't see where
- 17:14Speaker 3: it's going to come from besides a few homers from Junior,
- 17:17Speaker 3: Like where will it come when the Rays pitching hits
- 17:20Speaker 3: a little bump in the road?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yep, And it's May seventh. But better to be in
- 17:24Speaker 1: this position than in the position of Baltimore, Toronto or Boston.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I mean, they just swept through the Blue Jays, Okamoto's
- 17:32Speaker 1: having an insane little road trip for Toronto, but a
- 17:36Speaker 1: lot of other bad news around them and not being
- 17:38Speaker 1: able to sustain their pitching while the Rays have Martinez,
- 17:41Speaker 1: Like I talked about Chane McClanahan really looking like he's
- 17:44Speaker 1: rounding back into the Shane Mack that we found or
- 17:46Speaker 1: that we watched back when he was a cy young
- 17:49Speaker 1: contender before all the injury issues. So good stuff, good
- 17:52Speaker 1: little chat. You know, we don't always have to do
- 17:56Speaker 1: things because that's how it's always been.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Look, people consider me school, and I thought I was,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but then we had the pitch clock and the abs
- 18:04Speaker 2: and ban on shifts and all these things that we've
- 18:06Speaker 2: had for a long time in baseball. And you know what,
- 18:08Speaker 2: much like Mintmobile and the other mobile carriers, I'm here
- 18:11Speaker 2: for the new school and the changes that have been made.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It's a good call.
- 18:14Speaker 4: You can ditch over priced wireless.

- 18:51Speaker 1: See mint mobile for details. Get after at FTFAM. Hey,
- 18:56Speaker 1: quick little note on TV viewership in baseball. So the
- 19:01Speaker 1: national exclusive window through the first weekend of May is
- 19:06Speaker 1: two point two eight million, a forty four percent increase
- 19:09Speaker 1: over last year, best start in nine years for baseball.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I feel like every league tries to like huff and
- 19:14Speaker 1: puff on this, but baseball's keeping up. If not, I
- 19:17Speaker 1: think aja soaring past. You know, we've always talked about
- 19:21Speaker 1: basketball and the regular season action. It's more fun to
- 19:24Speaker 1: watch a regular season game right now for MLB. I'm saying,
- 19:27Speaker 1: compared to what it looked like five years ago, the
- 19:29Speaker 1: products more enjoyable. You're at a game every weekend.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Absolutely, the game is better. The game is you know,
- 19:35Speaker 2: more action with the pitch clock. People like the two
- 19:38Speaker 2: and a half hour average now instead of three and
- 19:40Speaker 2: a half four hours. It's been fun, it's been good,
- 19:44Speaker 2: and I love that baseball is heading in the right
- 19:46Speaker 2: direction and everything is up. Viewership's attendance is a owner's
- 19:53Speaker 2: franchise values are up, but don't worry. Somehow we'll get it.
- 19:56Speaker 2: We'll mess it up with a collective bargaining shutdown. So's
- 19:59Speaker 2: way to go baseball all because they want more.
- 20:04Speaker 1: We're gonna be talking about that.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I'm sorry, trying.
- 20:08Speaker 2: If everything is going so well, if everything is going
- 20:10Speaker 2: so well, and everything is going so good, why do
- 20:12Speaker 2: we need to what?
- 20:14Speaker 3: It's not fair. It's not fair. And it's because there's
- 20:17Speaker 3: teams that spend money, and I mean, I mean that's
- 20:20Speaker 3: teams that have money, and there's teams that don't have
- 20:23Speaker 3: I mean, don't spend money.
- 20:26Speaker 1: It's not fair that some NBA franchises are valued higher
- 20:29Speaker 1: than some MLB franchises. So that's the real battle within
- 20:33Speaker 1: the battle. Yep, injuries suck. The good news. The Chicago
- 20:45Speaker 1: Cubs are off to a roaring start. They've already had
- 20:48Speaker 1: two win streaks that are seven games plus the one
- 20:50Speaker 1: they're on right now is eight in a row. Yet
- 20:53Speaker 1: they cannot keep their arms healthy at the moment. This
- 20:58Speaker 1: is a fluke injury. In this case, Matthew Boyd going down.
- 21:01Speaker 1: He's gonna need surgery on his left meniscus and it
- 21:05Speaker 1: is from playing with his kids, So Aja, I have
- 21:09Speaker 1: a lot to get to here. Let's talk about the
- 21:11Speaker 1: impact on the Cubs first, and then we can, of
- 21:13Speaker 1: course get to the carefulness that you need playing with
- 21:17Speaker 1: the kiddos. But there's Taylor McGregor, the reporter for Marquee.
- 21:21Speaker 1: The injury happen this morning playing with his kids. They
- 21:23Speaker 1: won't know the timeline until after surgery. Boyd was an
- 21:26Speaker 1: All Star last year. This team is down quite a
- 21:28Speaker 1: bit of pitching, so much so that anytime something gets announced,
- 21:31Speaker 1: social media is flooded with Cubs fans being like sick
- 21:34Speaker 1: joke kind of memes. How much does this actually hurt
- 21:38Speaker 1: the team if he misses significant time? If not, I
- 21:41Speaker 1: don't know if it's something that would take him out
- 21:42Speaker 1: for the year, but he's gonna miss a while.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Well, they're playing good, they're playing really well right now.
- 21:46Speaker 2: They just keep hitting walkoffs every day against the Red
- 21:48Speaker 2: So they're like, Red's never leave town ever again, because
- 21:51Speaker 2: we're just going to keep walking you off PCA and
- 21:53Speaker 2: everyone else is getting walk offs. So do I think
- 21:55Speaker 2: this hurts him? Absolutely? Matthew Boyd was an All Star
- 21:57Speaker 2: last year. He's a really good dude. He's a great Pitcher. Yeah,
- 22:01Speaker 2: but this is this is a lesson to all you
- 22:03Speaker 2: people out there. Don't play with your kids.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Let them be, leave them alone, let them play it
- 22:09Speaker 1: on their own.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Kidding, play with your kids. Please. We need more, we
- 22:13Speaker 2: need more, we need more, We need more of that.
- 22:15Speaker 3: So, yes, that was not an FT. That was not
- 22:18Speaker 3: an FT public service announcement. I do not approve of that.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I say, play with your kids in the big leagues
- 22:25Speaker 3: and you tear your meniscus playing with your kids, you
- 22:29Speaker 3: know what, you went down a hero just wasn't worth it.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Just it just it just wasn't meant to be, is
- 22:36Speaker 2: all I can tell you. It just wasn't. I mean,
- 22:37Speaker 2: if this happens, it's like when you know, some guy
- 22:39Speaker 2: slips in a shower or cut hurts his back lifting
- 22:42Speaker 2: a suitcase or things like that, Like it's just you
- 22:44Speaker 2: were just gonna get hurt no matter what. It's just
- 22:46Speaker 2: so happened to be because of this. So it sucks
- 22:49Speaker 2: for It sucks for Matthew Boyd. The Cubs are playing great, though,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I mean, wow, they're like, please Red staying Wrigley for
- 22:56Speaker 2: like the next three years, because we will beat you
- 22:58Speaker 2: every time. In the ninth day.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the Reds are tumbling.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Did you guys see the tie score thing that came out.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I was checking scores last night and it said tie score,
- 23:08Speaker 2: and I'm like, wait, what the game ended in a
- 23:11Speaker 2: tie and the Cubs didn't get to bat in the
- 23:13Speaker 2: ninth inning or the tenth inning. What's happening here? And
- 23:18Speaker 2: later it refreshed, Well, it came out it said the
- 23:21Speaker 2: Cubs win. The notification said Cubs win, and it said
- 23:25Speaker 2: the score was six to six. Yeah, exactly.
- 23:29Speaker 3: That was good. They were like, we know what's gonna happen.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Cubs are gonna win. I know it's still tied right now.
- 23:35Speaker 3: But all this to say, like with an injury like this, yes,
- 23:39Speaker 3: it sucks. Teams that boy's already been on the injured
- 23:43Speaker 3: list for I think it was fifteen days earlier this year.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Teams that are winning and this stuff happens too. Sometimes.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I don't want to say galvanizes them. Nobody's gonna say, oh,
- 23:56Speaker 3: it's okay, you know, we're gonna we're gonna band together.
- 23:59Speaker 3: But they're just they're a train running downhill right now.
- 24:02Speaker 3: They just are. They're rolling to win the games at
- 24:05Speaker 3: the way they've won them against the reds in regularly.
- 24:08Speaker 3: The fact that they won fourteen fifteen straight now in
- 24:10Speaker 3: regularly like they are. They are rolling. And it doesn't
- 24:16Speaker 3: mean that this injury doesn't hurt them, because it clearly does.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I think one of their biggest weaknesses or least amount
- 24:23Speaker 3: of depth that they have because of other injuries already
- 24:26Speaker 3: is pitching. But they're finding other ways to win. They're
- 24:29Speaker 3: finding they're finding ways to win games. And I'm not
- 24:33Speaker 3: gonna say it's Alex Bregman, but I'm also gonna say
- 24:37Speaker 3: I saw the same fricking thing happen when he was
- 24:39Speaker 3: on the Red Sox last year, and you have them
- 24:43Speaker 3: now in the Cubs, and I just sometimes when teams
- 24:45Speaker 3: have winning, are starting to win, and they're winning in
- 24:47Speaker 3: ways where you're like, WHOA, what's going on? How are
- 24:50Speaker 3: these guys having good team at bats all this stuff,
- 24:53Speaker 3: you look at certain guys and I guess it's it's
- 24:55Speaker 3: an easy, lazy narrative by me to say Alex Bregman
- 24:59Speaker 3: is making a big impact. But I'm gonna say Alex
- 25:02Speaker 3: Bregman is making a big impact on this team that
- 25:05Speaker 3: already had a bunch of good players.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and their lineup and their bench is deep. They're
- 25:11Speaker 1: pinch hitting ops right now in close to forty at
- 25:13Speaker 1: bats is over a thousand. They are getting some significant
- 25:17Speaker 1: production from the bench. Definitely give credit to Craig Counsel
- 25:20Speaker 1: pressing some buttons at the right time for the team.
- 25:22Speaker 1: That stuff matters when you press the pinch hit or
- 25:24Speaker 1: button at the right time. And then lastly, you look
- 25:27Speaker 1: at the rotation here. So now Cad Horton, Justin Steele,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Matthew Boyd. I mean that's a better big three than
- 25:33Speaker 1: the three that you'd put together. That's not hurt, right,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I mean Immanaga, Edward Caprera, Jamison ty On good but Boyd, Horton,
- 25:43Speaker 1: Steel damn. I mean those are the guys you want
- 25:45Speaker 1: to pitching in playoff games. And then Porter Hodge, Riley
- 25:48Speaker 1: Martin's on the shelf, Hunter Harvey like, it's okay, deal bar.
- 25:51Speaker 1: It's a long list for them at the moment. So
- 25:54Speaker 1: credit to the Cubs for building depth. See this is
- 25:56Speaker 1: the different thought to pick on the Angels. But like,
- 25:58Speaker 1: this is the difference between the Cubs and a team
- 25:59Speaker 1: like the Angels. Right, a guy or two goes down
- 26:03Speaker 1: and they're still able to put together a winning streak
- 26:05Speaker 1: like this and have a really nice start to the
- 26:07Speaker 1: season where they've won eight in a row.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say, don't look at the Angels,
- 26:12Speaker 3: look at the blue Jays. Look at who the blue
- 26:14Speaker 3: Jays have lost in their rotation, and they're you know,
- 26:17Speaker 3: they're pitching injuries. Teams that are losing say, oh, look
- 26:22Speaker 3: at our look at our injuries. Teams that are winning.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Injuries are like the second or third thing brought up, like, ooh,
- 26:29Speaker 3: you know they're doing this right, they're doing this. So
- 26:31Speaker 3: it's it's more of a narrative that a lot of
- 26:35Speaker 3: teams have injuries. Who overcomes them. Yes they got depth.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yes the Cubs did go out and get Cabrera. Yes
- 26:44Speaker 3: the Cubs did go out and get Bregmant. But the
- 26:46Speaker 3: Cubs have been building what they have for a little
- 26:49Speaker 3: while now, with the fact that they're really really emphasizing
- 26:53Speaker 3: the defense that's out there, which is going to enhance
- 26:56Speaker 3: any pitcher that's out there. And I don't think they
- 26:59Speaker 3: build a bullpen very well before this year, and now
- 27:02Speaker 3: this year it seems like different guys in their bullpen
- 27:05Speaker 3: are stepping up, even when Porter Hodge is not is
- 27:08Speaker 3: not necessary, is not in there for them. So it's
- 27:11Speaker 3: it's something that the Blue Jays last year were killing it.
- 27:16Speaker 3: They weren't void of injuries. So how you bounce back
- 27:20Speaker 3: from those injuries dictates how you do in the season.
- 27:22Speaker 3: It's very basic.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and Matthew Boyd needs to not give his kids
- 27:28Speaker 1: Christmas presents just for like a minute, just to punk
- 27:30Speaker 1: them and say, well, kids, remember when your tour dad's meniscus, Well,
- 27:35Speaker 1: no Christmas presence, that's what happens.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Did you guys see Eli's two RBI sack fly last night?
- 27:42Speaker 3: That was so awesome.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Raise your hand if you have one of those.
- 27:45Speaker 3: No, that was so awesome. I mean not awesome for Saya,
- 27:50Speaker 3: but like when they go went back and watched it
- 27:51Speaker 3: where he Saya landed and then he thought he was
- 27:53Speaker 3: going to hit the wall and he was like kind
- 27:56Speaker 3: of up against the wall. Good for PCA for in there,
- 28:00Speaker 3: for him to be the Johnny or to be the
- 28:03Speaker 3: Manny Ramirez cut man. But good for was it It
- 28:06Speaker 3: was Matty McClain who didn't stop running like that was
- 28:09Speaker 3: that was awesome. I'm showing that to the boys on
- 28:12Speaker 3: the high school team tomorrow.
- 28:14Speaker 1: YEP. That's a good clip. AJ has done it? When
- 28:18Speaker 1: was it? AJ? And then we got to get to.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Our guest Kansas City. Uh, it was raining, and I
- 28:22Speaker 2: think David Dehaes, who's dove and made a catch in
- 28:25Speaker 2: like right center. He just kept sliding, and I think
- 28:28Speaker 2: Alexi Ramirez was on second and so there was I
- 28:30Speaker 2: think it was baseloaded and both both of them scored
- 28:32Speaker 2: because Dahesis couldn't stop sliding because it was wet. He
- 28:35Speaker 2: slid like you know, forever and then by the time
- 28:38Speaker 2: he stopped. Yeah, that was cool. I never thought i'd
- 28:41Speaker 2: seen one of those, and now I've seen it twice.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, very cool, fun series, really fun series, especially
- 28:48Speaker 1: if you're a if you're.
- 28:48Speaker 2: A Cubs fan, not for the red they lost, They
- 28:51Speaker 2: lost for gone and lost three games on a walk off.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I don't think it was very fun if you're a
- 28:55Speaker 2: Reds fan.
- 29:01Speaker 1: What's the beef? Well, this continues. The A's have departed Oakland.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They're now in Sacramento. They eventually will head to Las Vegas.
- 29:12Speaker 1: But whose fault is it? The name that you often
- 29:15Speaker 1: hear is John Fisher. John Fisher is connected to the
- 29:18Speaker 1: prior owner, Lou Wolf. He's ninety years old. He is
- 29:22Speaker 1: a super rich real estate developer, and he put out
- 29:26Speaker 1: a book, and I can retitle the book for him.
- 29:29Speaker 1: He basically says, don't blame me, don't blame Fisher, blame
- 29:33Speaker 1: the Giants. He goes all out to say in this
- 29:38Speaker 1: new book that the giants are despicable and it's all
- 29:42Speaker 1: their fault that the A's are not in the Bay
- 29:45Speaker 1: Area in the long term. Right, So I'll give you
- 29:49Speaker 1: a little sneak peek of what goes on here, and
- 29:51Speaker 1: I can also pretty much summarize what was going on
- 29:53Speaker 1: a j eight. This guy's trying to clear his name. Right,
- 29:56Speaker 1: you're ninety years old. We always mentioned the legacy component
- 29:59Speaker 1: for owners, Right, you have some that will be glorified
- 30:03Speaker 1: and some that can have all the money in the world,
- 30:05Speaker 1: but everybody hates them. And this is one way for
- 30:08Speaker 1: someone to say, it's not Fisher, it's not me. Right,
- 30:11Speaker 1: Because this goes back to Bud Selig giving the team
- 30:14Speaker 1: to Frat Bros. And then those guys taking over the team,
- 30:17Speaker 1: lou eventually giving the control to John Fisher, who bought
- 30:20Speaker 1: out more of the shares, and Low's claim here is
- 30:23Speaker 1: that the Giants have territorial rights over the county where
- 30:27Speaker 1: San Jose is in right, Santa Clara County, and San
- 30:31Speaker 1: Jose definitely can field a baseball team. There are people,
- 30:35Speaker 1: there's money, like they've got it all going on. But
- 30:38Speaker 1: San Francisco, the Giants will not give those rights to
- 30:41Speaker 1: the A's and that was the battle that went on
- 30:43Speaker 1: for a while. We can discuss and debate that part
- 30:47Speaker 1: of it. But aj here's where I want to start
- 30:49Speaker 1: the way I'm portraying the book, and I read the
- 30:51Speaker 1: excerpts that were put out there. An evandralic article in
- 30:54Speaker 1: a couple other spots is that the Giants wouldn't give
- 30:57Speaker 1: them rights to San Jose. Even though the Giants weren't
- 31:00Speaker 1: supposed to have those San Jose rights. They were only
- 31:02Speaker 1: supposed to have them if they actually ended up moving
- 31:04Speaker 1: there at some point, which we know is never going
- 31:06Speaker 1: to happen. Okay, I don't know enough about the background
- 31:10Speaker 1: of that back and forth. This is the part where
- 31:12Speaker 1: lou Wolfe, the ninety year old lost me. In the book.
- 31:15Speaker 1: He claims that if they had gotten the rights to
- 31:19Speaker 1: San Jose, then everything would have been fine, and they
- 31:24Speaker 1: would have used that as leverage against the city, so
- 31:26Speaker 1: they weren't actually going to move to San Jose. They
- 31:29Speaker 1: wanted to use it just to try and get more
- 31:31Speaker 1: out of Oakland. And then in his mind he thinks
- 31:35Speaker 1: everyone should say, oh, so you wanted to save more
- 31:38Speaker 1: money and get more from taxpayers, and that would have
- 31:41Speaker 1: led to them staying here. This, to me is where
- 31:44Speaker 1: the disconnect occurs when a billionaire tries to get sympathy
- 31:48Speaker 1: from the crowd saying I just needed this leverage point
- 31:52Speaker 1: and then we would have stayed in Oakland. We would
- 31:54Speaker 1: have milked them for every dollar. So, unless you're interpreting
- 31:58Speaker 1: this differently, I have clueless as to how this guy
- 32:01Speaker 1: thinks that people are going to feel like, Oh, it's okay, Lou,
- 32:05Speaker 1: it's okay, John, I'm not pissed. Oakland fans probably saw
- 32:09Speaker 1: this and got even more pissed.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I haven't read the excerpts, but I'm gonna take I'm
- 32:14Speaker 2: just gonna go off what you just told me, Scott. Now,
- 32:16Speaker 2: from what you just told me, isn't this what they
- 32:18Speaker 2: did with Las Vegas. They tried to use Vegas as
- 32:21Speaker 2: a leveraging point to get Oakland to say yes, and
- 32:24Speaker 2: Oakland was like, oh, we're not doing it, lou So
- 32:26Speaker 2: see you later, mister Fisher. And now they're in Sacramento
- 32:29Speaker 2: until they're a stadium in Vegas gets built. So it
- 32:32Speaker 2: seems like they use Vegas for this in San Jose.
- 32:35Speaker 2: So I can't believe. I mean, listen, did the Giants
- 32:38Speaker 2: have something to do with this, yes, but to call
- 32:39Speaker 2: them despicable for what they did, which really was nothing
- 32:42Speaker 2: from what you just said. What did they do? They
- 32:44Speaker 2: did what they were told. They had the rights and
- 32:46Speaker 2: they weren't going to give them up because they're their rights.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I mean, isn't this what the Orioles and the Nationals
- 32:52Speaker 2: fought for years and years and years and I think
- 32:54Speaker 2: they finally figured it out after like twenty years of
- 32:57Speaker 2: fighting over rights to TV markets.
- 33:01Speaker 1: And all that was TV rights, right, that was TV rights.
- 33:04Speaker 1: This is territorial rights. But but the thing is to me,
- 33:07Speaker 1: when I read this AJ, why does it even matter?
- 33:09Speaker 1: Because he doesn't.
- 33:10Speaker 2: They were going there.
- 33:12Speaker 5: He's just using you were going there. Yeah, but he
- 33:15Speaker 5: was used Vegas to do the same thing and it
- 33:17Speaker 5: didn't work. So it's just Tim trying to make himself
- 33:21Speaker 5: feel better at ninety years old. We all do this
- 33:23Speaker 5: at times, we all say things to try to make
- 33:25Speaker 5: ourself feel better even though we don't really believe it.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and the mayor was quoted in a response in
- 33:31Speaker 1: evandraulus article basically saying how Wolf did have property in
- 33:35Speaker 1: San Jose and all around the site, and then Wolf
- 33:38Speaker 1: disputed that and said, oh, I sold that to buy
- 33:40Speaker 1: the A's. So it's just like, you know what, I
- 33:43Speaker 1: think you probably would have been better off not writing
- 33:46Speaker 1: a book, because then you just reopen it. And now
- 33:48Speaker 1: I think krats for me. And this isn't nationally or internationally,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but in that area, I think people start to go, oh,
- 33:54Speaker 1: that's right. Actually, I'm not just pissed at one guy
- 33:57Speaker 1: that that Oakland doesn't have ball anymore. I'm actually pissed
- 34:01Speaker 1: at this guy too. He's telling me about, oh, no,
- 34:03Speaker 1: I sold all that property. I was just using San
- 34:05Speaker 1: Jose as a front. But I'm also pissed at the
- 34:08Speaker 1: giants because they should have given me San Jose to
- 34:10Speaker 1: use it. Absurd.
- 34:12Speaker 3: When I read this, I mean, AJ's rich, I'm rich,
- 34:17Speaker 3: You're rich. Billionaires look down on us, and billionaires sometimes
- 34:21Speaker 3: have like a false sense of reality. I think somewhat
- 34:25Speaker 3: reading through the excerpts, I feel like that's just a
- 34:29Speaker 3: false sense of reality of what really is the meaning
- 34:32Speaker 3: of owning a team. Are you supposed to lose money?
- 34:36Speaker 3: Absolutely not. Nobody would. Nobody would own a team if
- 34:39Speaker 3: you were supposed to lose money. I'm not asking owners
- 34:41Speaker 3: to lose money. I'm asking owners. It's kind of a
- 34:44Speaker 3: little bit what I was hinting at with Carl Ravich
- 34:46Speaker 3: about you know, them major League Baseball getting rid of
- 34:49Speaker 3: minor league teams. I get it. You know, it might
- 34:52Speaker 3: be it might be a line on your ledger sheet,
- 34:54Speaker 3: but you know who loses in this situation, whatever it was,
- 34:57Speaker 3: whether he had the property in San Jose, whether he
- 35:00Speaker 3: going to use it or he was using it as leverage.
- 35:03Speaker 3: The millions of A's fans, the hundreds of former and
- 35:08Speaker 3: current players who were A's fans when they were growing
- 35:11Speaker 3: up and then became Major League Baseball players and their
- 35:14Speaker 3: team has gone. That's who's losing in this. I don't
- 35:17Speaker 3: care about that, he said. She said, dollars cents, millions
- 35:22Speaker 3: and billions of dollars. Like the fans lose out. The
- 35:26Speaker 3: fans came out to Oakland. When the fans banded together
- 35:32Speaker 3: to show Oakland that to show the A's the organization
- 35:37Speaker 3: that we don't like what you're doing, and they banded together,
- 35:39Speaker 3: and you know what, they still got slapped in the face.
- 35:42Speaker 3: They still got the team taken away. And I've never
- 35:44Speaker 3: seen a city lose a team and a fan base
- 35:47Speaker 3: go ah whatever, it was fine. But you know what,
- 35:50Speaker 3: as much as you did lose your team in the
- 35:52Speaker 3: A's getting rid of John Fisher and what he would
- 35:55Speaker 3: have done had that ownership group gotten what they wanted,
- 35:59Speaker 3: they would have just continued to be parasites to the
- 36:03Speaker 3: fans in Oakland because they wanted them to pay for
- 36:06Speaker 3: the stadium and they would have continued to make more
- 36:10Speaker 3: and more money. So you know what, I get it.
- 36:12Speaker 3: You lost your team and that sucks for true as fans,
- 36:16Speaker 3: But you don't want that guy around you anyway. You
- 36:19Speaker 3: don't want you don't want that to be the guy
- 36:22Speaker 3: who owned your team. The best thing that could have
- 36:24Speaker 3: happened was he sold it and somebody else kept the
- 36:26Speaker 3: team in Oakland because I know there is a lot
- 36:29Speaker 3: of fans that love, love, love the A's for years.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and he just tried to drag the Giants as
- 36:35Speaker 1: the main reason why all of this isn't happening now.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Does the Bay Area deserve to have two teams? Yes,
- 36:41Speaker 1: they should absolutely be fielding two teams, and could San
- 36:45Speaker 1: Jose field a team one billion percent? Great spot, right,
- 36:50Speaker 1: But this will all prevent that. I'll finish it with this.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I think you guys will like this, and I saved
- 36:55Speaker 1: this for the end of the segment.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Here.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Do you guys know who he dedicated book to two people?
- 37:01Speaker 1: We will dedicated the book to.
- 37:03Speaker 3: John Fisher yep and Robby No No, Budd Ceelick, bud Selick.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Dang it, I should have gotten that right away.
- 37:13Speaker 1: He literally dedicated the book to the to the frat bros,
- 37:16Speaker 1: John Fisher and Bud Selik. And I mean again, I
- 37:19Speaker 1: didn't read the full book, so I'm sure he spoke
- 37:21Speaker 1: about fans if he's not stupid.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Two thousand and two twins that he ended Moneyball he
- 37:26Speaker 2: dedicated it to the Oh wait, no, sorry.
- 37:28Speaker 1: That would have been better talk we dedicating to fans
- 37:32Speaker 1: would have been better too, But good job.
- 37:36Speaker 3: I hope lost like just zero social awareness zero.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I did send a note out. You know, we we
- 37:44Speaker 1: try in every way to get any guests we can,
- 37:46Speaker 1: and this probably is not going to help the cause.
- 37:48Speaker 1: But I did send a note out to the publishing company.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I haven't checked if they've replied to try and get
- 37:55Speaker 1: him on the show, so I will let you know
- 37:58Speaker 1: if I have any luck there. But in all seriousness,
- 38:01Speaker 1: as much as I ripped him just now, I'd love
- 38:02Speaker 1: for him to come on the show and defend or
- 38:05Speaker 1: clarify anything that we went over, because to me, this
- 38:08Speaker 1: is bonkers what he's talking about. All right, people, let's slap.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Can we go to the Alec Minoa quote? Did you
- 38:30Speaker 1: guys see this so you know Manoah's back. The media
- 38:36Speaker 1: asked if he would potentially be interested in a little
- 38:39Speaker 1: bit of a bullpen action, and he said, the big
- 38:44Speaker 1: Leagues isn't for comfort. It's like the lion and the gazelle.
- 38:47Speaker 1: The gazelle wakes up in the morning he knows he
- 38:50Speaker 1: has to outrun the slowest lion or he's going to
- 38:52Speaker 1: be dinner. And the lion wakes up in the morning
- 38:54Speaker 1: knowing he's got to go catch the slowest gazelle so
- 38:56Speaker 1: he can feed his family. Long story short, you've got
- 38:59Speaker 1: to wake and run. That's the name of the game.
- 39:01Speaker 1: So comfort level, Who cares about any of that stuff?
- 39:03Speaker 1: Let's go play some baseball. So I mean he's down
- 39:06Speaker 1: to do whatever at this point, as he should be. Aj.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I mean he's still trying to find himself again.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't I really understand this quote, but okay,
- 39:17Speaker 2: I mean I always just say I don't have to
- 39:19Speaker 2: be the slow I don't have to be the fastest
- 39:21Speaker 2: guy in a group like we were just an africover Christmas.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I don't have to be the fastest one of my family.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I just don't have to be the slowest. So I
- 39:27Speaker 2: think that's what he was trying to get at it.
- 39:28Speaker 2: He just used it a little bit of you know
- 39:30Speaker 2: which one are you gonna be? You're gonna be the
- 39:32Speaker 2: hunter or the hunt did and he was trying to
- 39:34Speaker 2: make a competition kind of thing about the big leagues.
- 39:37Speaker 2: But I don't know. He did offer to come bent
- 39:39Speaker 2: pitch out of the bullpen, so at least I'll give
- 39:40Speaker 2: him credit for that.
- 39:42Speaker 3: He was also asked if there was a comfort level
- 39:44Speaker 3: thing that he would would he be comfortable pitching it
- 39:47Speaker 3: out of the bullpen, and he said big leagues isn't
- 39:49Speaker 3: about comfort, and his career right now hasn't been about comfort.
- 39:53Speaker 3: I mean, he was he was miked everybody remembers he
- 39:56Speaker 3: was miked up in the All Star Game. So I
- 39:58Speaker 3: remember Alec Manoa was an All Star. Well, he's a
- 40:00Speaker 3: long way and a couple of health injuries away from
- 40:05Speaker 3: being even a big leaguer. So I think I love
- 40:08Speaker 3: the quote. I mean it's kind of awkward, but I
- 40:10Speaker 3: love the quote because the fact that you're one hundred
- 40:12Speaker 3: percent right when you're an All Star. I think sometimes
- 40:14Speaker 3: people think you're the lion and you're going around, prowling around,
- 40:18Speaker 3: and you're just devouring all these gazelles that are gonna
- 40:21Speaker 3: get sent down to the bushes. He feels like he's
- 40:23Speaker 3: a gazelle right now. So he's like, you know what,
- 40:26Speaker 3: if they need to be throwing the pen, I'm gonna
- 40:28Speaker 3: come out there and I'm gonna throw in the pen.
- 40:30Speaker 3: They need me to start, I'm gonna start. You need
- 40:32Speaker 3: me to go back to back days, I might break
- 40:35Speaker 3: down again.
- 40:37Speaker 1: All right, Well, Kratsat's on the way out. We love you.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Middle school semi finalists down in Hess, Georgia, the Hess Bears.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Jordan sever sent it to me, so I appreciate you.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Jordan Go Bears, right, aj Go Bears.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he can say it. You can say it. Come
- 40:59Speaker 3: on center down.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I'll say bear it down, Bear down like you.
- 41:04Speaker 1: You like the Chicago Bears.
- 41:06Speaker 2: So I just said bear it down right close enough?
- 41:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he likes all the Bears.
- 41:11Speaker 2: All rights.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, baby Bears. He loves Baby Bears.
- 41:16Speaker 1: He loves her Cubs.
