- 0:00SPEAKER_00: When you hear people talking about your network is your net worth, that is 100% true.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: But your network is also your mindset.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I think when most people think about entrepreneurship, especially people who aren't entrepreneurs, they think about money, greed, power, control.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: But if you are an entrepreneur, you know that's not what it's about.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: It's about serving, it's about impact, it's about purpose.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And I had a very, very, very unique conversation yesterday with a brilliant entrepreneur who has accomplished wonders in his life.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And this was in a group setting.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And so what he said was, we need money, but we do not like money.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Let me repeat that.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: We need money.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: That's the harsh truth.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: We need money.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: There's nothing you can do, but we don't like it.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We're not entrepreneurs in order to make money.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We are entrepreneurs in order to fulfill our purpose, in order to make an impact on the community, in order to help the world.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And money is a byproduct, something that is necessary, but not something that we need, not something that we or sorry, not something that we like, something that we need.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: What we need to do is we need to stick to our to our principles rather than chasing profit through trends that are frankly out of line with our principles, with our morals, with our values, with our goals, with our mission.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And I mean, let's be honest.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Let's just be 100% honest.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Redemptive entrepreneurship, it hurts.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Also, you can genuinely help people, your partners, your uh your shareholders, your uh your vendors, your customers, and so on.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: You can help all these people.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And he brought up another killer point.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Killer point.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: He said, everybody, everybody has an exploitative heart.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Everybody deep down just wants to be exploitative, they just want to, they just want to have everything.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And so it's hard.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Again, redemptive entrepreneurship is hurts, but it is better.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So he he he posed a question for us.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: He said, think about how you or how we can be more redemptive in three different spaces: strategy, leadership, and operations.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And after that conversation, what really stuck out to me was a sentence that he had in um strategy, in brand specifically, and that was we resist the urge to play to our customers' desires, insecurity, your ego through marketing based on fear uh or status.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And when you really think about that, I mean, dude, what is marketing?
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: What is sales?
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Most of marketing is based off either attracting prospects via their desires or instilling fear or FOMO of not using your product or service via their fears or insecurities.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Now, my friend Darren, Darren Ho, great guy, great guy.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: I liked what he said about each one of us having exploitative hearts in some sense, because it seems to be that for every massively financially objectively successful redem redemptive entrepreneur you see, you also see an uh an arguably exploitative entrepreneur who in many cases may be even more financially successful than their redemptive counterpart.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: It's an unfortunate truth.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Again, not easy, but better.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: What do I truly want from my life, from my business, from my career, from my network, for my relationships?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: What do I want?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: What are my principles?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: What are my uh values?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: What are uh my priorities?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Something to think about.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: And I I think another thing that came to mind for me in the midst of this conversation was the power of brand, the power of specifically social media.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Because social media is amazing, but there are loads of people who misuse it.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: There are loads of people who uh, for example, they're they act like they're a mentor, they act like, oh, I'm gonna help you build a$10 million real estate business, but I've never done a single real estate transaction in my life, or maybe I've done one or two or three or four or five.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Two plus two is not adding up.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: So and the the sad truth is these are never going to end, these are never going to just disappear, these are never gonna go away, right?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: But we can do what we can to not be a part of that.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: In fact, instead of being uh unethical, a we can be ethical, but b, we can be redemptive, we can truly make an impact in every area of life.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Now, another friend of mine, Ron, uh, Ron Bromberger, I believe, is his last name.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: He uh he recently sold a business, now he recently started another business, currently a solopreneur in this current business, and what he was talking about is the power of and instead of or.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: And I think that is extremely powerful because I think oftentimes we're thinking the scarcity mindset.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: I can either have a billion-dollar business or I can have a beautiful family, I can either have a good relationship with God or I can have a thriving business, I can either have X or I can have Z.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: But what if we said, because I have a great relationship with God, I can have a great beautiful family, I can have a great thriving business, I can, I can, I can, and and not or powerful stuff.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Now, another um recurring theme this week in conversations groups that I've been in, um, that I'm a part of was a for-profit arm and a non-for-profit arm.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: And the the general idea is that every single person, every single entrepreneur should have a for-profit arm, your business, but you should also have a non-profit arm, whether this is your passion project, whether this is something just a way that you want to give back to the community, you should have a non-profit arm.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And that keeps coming up.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And I think that's very, very powerful.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I was talking with a recent um Butler University graduate, uh Kendra, uh, Kendra Ladig.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Go check her out.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: She's a uh a wedding photographer, uh, usually high-end, I believe, uh, weddings.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: And um, what she was saying is um she went to South America, uh Lima, Peru, uh, for four months for ministry.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: And she was providing uh cameras and videography for those who otherwise would not be able to have those resources, would not be able to have uh those great times that they're able to get on camera, and then you know, 50 years from now, they look back at what their kids or maybe their grandkids and they sharish those memory and uh sharish those memories, those um those times, the good times.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: And I mean, giving four months of your time, no money or little money, I don't, I don't know the situation exactly, but it's as an entrepreneur, it seems tough.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: It's like the you know, the the the the opportunity cost, but then you have entrepreneurs like Kendra who have a great business, but then also are giving four months of your time to go serve and to go travel and to go serve an underserved community, truly redemptive, truly a blessing.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: So going forward, I want all of you guys, each one of you, to think about as an entrepreneur, as a father, as a husband, as a mother, as a wife, as uh a son, a daughter, what can I do?
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: What can I do today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year, next five years, the next 20 years, the next uh 50 years?
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: What can I do to make an impact?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: What can I do to not only be an entrepreneur and a zero-sum entrepreneur where it's either you win, I lose, or I win, you lose.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And we all know uh what most people would pick there.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: How can I be a redemptive, redemptive entrepreneur?
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: How can I serve my community?
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: How can I improve my community?
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Think about it, and have a blessed day.
