- 3:01Speaker 3: But first I want to talk a little farmers market. Shawn,
- 3:03Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning, thanks for having me today,
- 3:05Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Are things going with the
- 3:08Speaker 3: farmers Market?
- 3:08Speaker 5: It's going great. It's been a great turnout. The communities
- 3:13Speaker 5: really came out and supported it.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I mean, I've been with my wife and I have
- 3:19Speaker 3: gone several times. And if you've never if you've never
- 3:22Speaker 3: gone to it, it is it's an absolutely great thing
- 3:25Speaker 3: for the area. And I guess the one thing I was,
- 3:27Speaker 3: even though I'd had you on the show talking about it,
- 3:29Speaker 3: and Mayor Frank Mullins and talked about it too, I
- 3:32Speaker 3: guess I wasn't prepared for the first time I went,
- 3:34Speaker 3: how big it was and how how much space did
- 3:36Speaker 3: you cover there?
- 3:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's it's it's actually I mean, for
- 3:40Speaker 5: we're a small market, but there's a lot, there's a
- 3:42Speaker 5: lot that we have there that we offer that you know,
- 3:45Speaker 5: it actually looks bigger than what it is. But you know, again,
- 3:49Speaker 5: it's been a it's been a great turnout, and you know,
- 3:52Speaker 5: we really just want to thank everyone for coming out
- 3:53Speaker 5: and supporting it.
- 3:55Speaker 7: All.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Right, so what do you got coming up to farmers Market?
- 3:57Speaker 5: So this week we were celebrating ash Farmers Market Week,
- 4:01Speaker 5: and what that kind of is is it's a week
- 4:04Speaker 5: that you you want to help promote the agriculture and
- 4:09Speaker 5: the vital roles that markets have in the community and
- 4:13Speaker 5: the people behind it, which are the farmers. So what
- 4:16Speaker 5: we're doing for our market this week is we're gonna
- 4:18Speaker 5: We're gonna do a spotlight on our social media for
- 4:21Speaker 5: all of our farmers during the week, and then on Saturday,
- 4:24Speaker 5: we're gonna have a National Farmers Market Week event with
- 4:27Speaker 5: a farm to table cookout which we are purchasing all
- 4:30Speaker 5: the products from our farmers there and cooking it out,
- 4:33Speaker 5: and we'll have a petting zoo, live apple butter demo,
- 4:38Speaker 5: face painting, and tractor rides and inflatables.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And describe to people where it is people that may
- 4:45Speaker 3: not know where the farmers Market is.
- 4:46Speaker 8: So we are.
- 4:46Speaker 5: We are located in South Charleston at four thousand and
- 4:48Speaker 5: six mccorkway Avenue Southwest, which is right behind the Wendy's.
- 4:53Speaker 5: It's on the old mccorkol Avenue where the old revef
- 4:57Speaker 5: end used to be.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a it's a great facial and you're
- 5:00Speaker 3: gonna have a lot of good things going on here
- 5:01Speaker 3: this Saturday. Now, how long is it going to run?
- 5:03Speaker 3: I mean as far as I mean, how many more
- 5:05Speaker 3: weeks do you have?
- 5:06Speaker 5: So we will run through the fall. We're gonna have
- 5:08Speaker 5: a fall in a Christmas market, okay, yea, So we
- 5:11Speaker 5: will be open probably up until around right before Christmas time.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Okay, I could see what that would be a huge
- 5:18Speaker 3: success Christmas, especially falling Christmas, I mean, because there's things
- 5:21Speaker 3: are kind of built around farmers markets, right, yep, Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 3: talk at too. As Sean Zenniget again from the City
- 5:26Speaker 3: of South Charlesto, Dave Island, showing five any Live is
- 5:28Speaker 3: brought to you in parted by Pinnacle Consultants. Pinnacle offer
- 5:31Speaker 3: is a four phase assessment for your properties. Inspection, sampling,
- 5:34Speaker 3: an analysis, comprehensive reporting and management planning. Visit Pinnacle court
- 5:37Speaker 3: dot net. Because what you don't know can't hurt you,
- 5:39Speaker 3: all right. We'll get back to the farmer's market a
- 5:41Speaker 3: little bit later on, but we'll talk about summer fests.
- 5:43Speaker 3: How many years of summer Fest's been going on. It's
- 5:45Speaker 3: been happening a long time.
- 5:46Speaker 8: Right.
- 5:47Speaker 5: I asked this question yesterday because I always forget, and
- 5:50Speaker 5: this is our twenty second year.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Twenty second year right in Summer Fest, yep. And it
- 5:54Speaker 3: kicks off next Wednesday.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Next Wednesday.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it runs through the weekend, Saturday through Saturday. So, well, doll,
- 6:00Speaker 3: do we have on the schedule this year?
- 6:01Speaker 6: So it'll be, it'll be.
- 6:02Speaker 5: It'll be four days of free family fund entertainment each
- 6:07Speaker 5: each evening. We'll have bands that come on at six
- 6:10Speaker 5: pm and eight pm. We'll have a free kid zone inflatables,
- 6:16Speaker 5: face painting, snow cones. We'll have plenty of food vendors
- 6:20Speaker 5: there as well, and dance contest. Friday night is our
- 6:25Speaker 5: drone show at ten pm, and then Saturday morning from
- 6:29Speaker 5: eight to two is our car show, and then the
- 6:31Speaker 5: last night on Saturday night is our fireworks.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Okay, let's talk about the music. Do we have on
- 6:35Speaker 3: the schedule?
- 6:36Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 6:36Speaker 5: So Wednesday we have Straight On which is which, which
- 6:40Speaker 5: is a tribute to Heart, and then we have the
- 6:43Speaker 5: exiles as well. Thursday we have the Detonators, and then
- 6:48Speaker 5: we have the Legacy Motel, and then Friday we have
- 6:52Speaker 5: Josh Pantry, and then we have Turn It Up, which
- 6:55Speaker 5: is a tribute to Skinnered, and then Saturday we have
- 7:01Speaker 5: Non Friction and Rick K road Trip.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and Non Friction. I've talked about that in the past.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I've actually worked a couple of events where I've m
- 7:07Speaker 3: seed them.
- 7:09Speaker 6: They are.
- 7:10Speaker 3: They're fantastic, yes. And Rick K, of course, you know
- 7:13Speaker 3: years was known as Rick K and the All Nighters
- 7:15Speaker 3: and he's kind of morphed into a different what what
- 7:17Speaker 3: a character and what a fantastic show?
- 7:20Speaker 5: Yeah, he Rick K is very popular there at Summerfest
- 7:23Speaker 5: in South Ross and everyone seems to want him there
- 7:27Speaker 5: every year.
- 7:27Speaker 3: He's fantastic fast. Of course you had me at Skinnered.
- 7:30Speaker 3: You know, that's my all time favorite group. And when
- 7:34Speaker 3: you said turned it when I read earlier that Turned
- 7:36Speaker 3: it Up is going to be there. They're one of
- 7:37Speaker 3: the premier Skinnered tribute bands. I mean, who doesn't like
- 7:40Speaker 3: you know, when you hear Sweet Home Alabama or or
- 7:42Speaker 3: you know, something like that, it'll be great. And one
- 7:45Speaker 3: of the things I like about the music is is
- 7:47Speaker 3: that Sean, You've got music of all different varieties. I mean,
- 7:51Speaker 3: you've got a little motown, you got some oldies, you
- 7:53Speaker 3: got some and in Heart you know, they just played
- 7:55Speaker 3: at the Conlesey mcavench Center not long ago. Just I
- 7:57Speaker 3: mean they just kicked butt there and so that Heart
- 8:00Speaker 3: tribute's going to be good as well.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Yeah, and then you know it is we have a
- 8:04Speaker 5: lot to offer during that week. There's gonna be something
- 8:06Speaker 5: for everybody.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and let's talk about some of the some of
- 8:09Speaker 3: the food vendors you got there.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Yeah, so we will have I don't know exactly how
- 8:14Speaker 5: many we have, but we have a wide variety selection
- 8:18Speaker 5: with funnel fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, all this stuff, all
- 8:23Speaker 5: this theff barbecues. I mean, there's gonna be a little
- 8:26Speaker 5: bit of everything there, lemonade, drinks and and.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Of course you got to pay for the food obviously,
- 8:31Speaker 3: stuff like that. But if you want to bring the
- 8:33Speaker 3: family out just for entertainment.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Yes, the entire kid zones free.
- 8:37Speaker 3: It's free. The entire kid zone is free. And again
- 8:39Speaker 3: it starts next Wednesday and we'll run through Saturday evening
- 8:43Speaker 3: there at the Mound in South Charleston. And twenty how
- 8:46Speaker 3: many years you say twenty? This is twenty two, twenty
- 8:48Speaker 3: second year for Summer past. We're gonna be talking a
- 8:50Speaker 3: whole lot about I know our stations are going to
- 8:52Speaker 3: be involved in it as well, so we're definitely looking
- 8:54Speaker 3: forward to it. We had a text here about the
- 8:55Speaker 3: farmers market, okay, text said will the market be used
- 8:58Speaker 3: for Christmas tree lots? If not, it should be.
- 9:02Speaker 5: We will have Christmas trees during the Christmas market.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yes, okay. And another is one of the group named
- 9:07Speaker 3: the Exiles or the legendary group Exile. It's the Exile Exiles. Yes,
- 9:11Speaker 3: that's with an S.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Yes' with an s.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Not the guys that did hits you all over, although
- 9:15Speaker 3: they've played around Charleston, you know many many times. You know,
- 9:18Speaker 3: this is the Exiles that we'll be playing there, not Exile.
- 9:22Speaker 3: But there's still a fantastic group either way. Now, if
- 9:24Speaker 3: you want to see the schedule of events, you can
- 9:26Speaker 3: go over to my Facebook page Nave Island Radio. I
- 9:28Speaker 3: actually took the graphic of your schedule of events and
- 9:31Speaker 3: you can follow along, I know in your guys social
- 9:33Speaker 3: media and also on the website of well you will
- 9:35Speaker 3: have all the information there. And let's talk about the
- 9:38Speaker 3: car show a little bit.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Yeah, so last we had a great turnout. Yeah, I
- 9:41Speaker 5: believe two hundred and thirty two vehicles, which is the
- 9:44Speaker 5: biggest turnout we've had. So the registration will start at
- 9:48Speaker 5: seven am on that on next Saturday, and the car
- 9:52Speaker 5: show will start at eight eight am, run to two pm.
- 9:55Speaker 3: All right, all right, Sean, Farmers Market, let's go back
- 9:58Speaker 3: to that just for a moment till people time you
- 10:00Speaker 3: open this Saturday with this whole farma this Saturday.
- 10:03Speaker 5: We heard up at nine am, but the event starts
- 10:06Speaker 5: at ten am and I'll run to five pm.
- 10:09Speaker 3: All right, we'll be there and we'll also see you
- 10:11Speaker 3: at some effects next week. Sean, appreciate you being there.

- 13:11Speaker 3: them out about four. And remember parents' grandparents, the kids
- 13:15Speaker 3: have to be present. We can't have you know you
- 13:19Speaker 3: coming up and say, well, I got four kids at home. No,
- 13:21Speaker 3: we we got to see the kid all right. And

- 13:47Speaker 3: of Woody Woods and g money at one of those
- 13:49Speaker 3: seven three the beat, we're all glad to help out

- 13:58Speaker 3: have you out of here by about six, and we
- 14:01Speaker 3: try to do it as orderly as we possibly can,
- 14:03Speaker 3: but sometimes we don't always succeed. It's National Night Out.
- 14:06Speaker 3: We're going to talk to some folks from Charleston Police
- 14:08Speaker 3: Department about that coming up a little bit later on.
- 14:10Speaker 3: You've been hearing him on the air here for some time,
- 14:12Speaker 3: and now you're going to be seeing him around more
- 14:14Speaker 3: because he's made the move for Martinsburg to begin working
- 14:17Speaker 3: out of the palatial State here at eleven eleven. His
- 14:20Speaker 3: name is Daniel Woods, and he's been doing sports on
- 14:23Speaker 3: the morning news for a while and we've had him
- 14:25Speaker 3: on Metro News midday and other network productions within the company.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Now he's here and he joined us this morning in
- 14:30Speaker 3: the Jerry Construction studios. Good morning, sir, welcome aboard.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Good morning, Thank you, very happy to be here.
- 14:35Speaker 3: All right, give us the bio of Daniel Woods. Tell
- 14:37Speaker 3: us about you well.
- 14:37Speaker 13: I'm born and raised West Virginia, Morgantown, spent the first
- 14:41Speaker 13: twenty three years of my life in Morgantown. I'm a
- 14:44Speaker 13: proud graduate of West Virginia University as well. So I
- 14:48Speaker 13: was one of those kids coming out of high school
- 14:50Speaker 13: where I thought I wanted to go anywhere but college
- 14:52Speaker 13: in West Virginia, and it worked out that I realized
- 14:56Speaker 13: around that time that not only was WVU going to
- 14:59Speaker 13: be my best it was the option that I wanted.
- 15:01Speaker 6: So went to WVU.
- 15:03Speaker 13: Spent the first close to twenty three years of my
- 15:05Speaker 13: life in Morgantown. Then was in the sports television game
- 15:09Speaker 13: for a little bit in the Clarksburg market, did that
- 15:13Speaker 13: for about a year and a half, worked with the
- 15:16Speaker 13: company with WVRC Media part time. When I was in college,
- 15:20Speaker 13: did a year and a half in the TV game. Decided,
- 15:23Speaker 13: you know what, that radio stuff that I did in
- 15:25Speaker 13: college was a lot more fun. So an opportunity came
- 15:28Speaker 13: up with Luke Wiggs, who some folks may have heard
- 15:31Speaker 13: across the network as well, who is a very good
- 15:33Speaker 13: friend of mine from college, with our Martinsburg office to
- 15:37Speaker 13: go out there be part of their news and sports product,
- 15:39Speaker 13: and that's what I've been doing for a little bit
- 15:42Speaker 13: over a year and a half now. Opportunity came around
- 15:46Speaker 13: with the Morning News to be the sports update anchor
- 15:48Speaker 13: there and have been doing that remotely for Martinsburg for
- 15:52Speaker 13: a little while now and have now fully vested myself
- 15:57Speaker 13: in this Charleston office. Today is my first day act
- 16:00Speaker 13: in the building. So very excited to be here and
- 16:02Speaker 13: very excited to get started with that as well as
- 16:05Speaker 13: the West Virginia State University football and basketball product we're
- 16:08Speaker 13: going to be bringing to one of seven three the
- 16:10Speaker 13: Beat too.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll talk about that a little bit later on.
- 16:12Speaker 3: What was it that made you want to get in
- 16:14Speaker 3: this crazy business to begin with? Because it's a special
- 16:17Speaker 3: kind of crazy that wants to do this, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 3: you realize that, right.
- 16:19Speaker 13: Absolutely, And I like to think that I'm that kind
- 16:23Speaker 13: of crazy, and the poster child for that kind of crazy,
- 16:26Speaker 13: I think, is the person that made me want to
- 16:27Speaker 13: do this. I grew up both my parents are teachers,
- 16:30Speaker 13: so I grew up having to go to school earlier
- 16:32Speaker 13: than everybody else. And I would be riding to school
- 16:36Speaker 13: in the car with my mom in Morgantown and would
- 16:39Speaker 13: flip WVQ on and it was the Eric and Kevin
- 16:42Speaker 13: Show every morning and Eric Maguire. It just seemed like
- 16:46Speaker 13: had fun going to work every day, and it didn't
- 16:48Speaker 13: seem like a job for that guy. And I thought,
- 16:51Speaker 13: you know, from the time I was sex seven years old,
- 16:54Speaker 13: that seems pretty fun.
- 16:55Speaker 6: Maybe I'd like to do that.
- 16:57Speaker 13: And then I've been a massive sports in my entire life.
- 17:00Speaker 13: I played just about anything you could think of growing up,
- 17:04Speaker 13: and then when I got to high school, was playing
- 17:07Speaker 13: high school basketball. Tore my ACL not once, but twice
- 17:10Speaker 13: during thigh school overachiever, I try, I try my best,
- 17:14Speaker 13: tour my ACL twice in about two and a half years,
- 17:19Speaker 13: and in the meantime became the PA announcer for my
- 17:22Speaker 13: high school's soccer team, and that kind of unlocked something
- 17:27Speaker 13: with the radio love for radio that I had as
- 17:30Speaker 13: a kid, and joined the college radio station at WVU,
- 17:34Speaker 13: fell in love with it even more there and It's
- 17:36Speaker 13: what I wanted to do since.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Doctor to Daniel Woods, who is a the newest member
- 17:40Speaker 3: of our team. Here in Charles of a. Dave Allen
- 17:41Speaker 3: showing five eighty Live is presented apart by Generations Physical Therapy.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Nine practices all offer an extended hours so access to
- 17:47Speaker 3: physical therapy has never been easier. To get your appointment
- 17:50Speaker 3: three zero four seven, six zero fifty six sixty or
- 17:53Speaker 3: visit Generations PT dot com. All right, I got to
- 17:55Speaker 3: ask you, since you're a sports guy. We know you're
- 17:56Speaker 3: a Mountaineer fan, all right, who are your sports teams?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Because we're very competitive around here about our respective sports team.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So who are your teams other than WVU.
- 18:05Speaker 13: Well, it starts first and foremost, unfortunately, and I've taken
- 18:09Speaker 13: the beating for this over the years with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 18:11Speaker 13: It starts with with my with my dad, who grew
- 18:14Speaker 13: up on the Kingwood Pike outside of Morgantown, uh, listening
- 18:17Speaker 13: to Bob Prince on the radio with his grandfather, and
- 18:20Speaker 13: then that was passed down to me. And I've gotten
- 18:23Speaker 13: three playoff appearances in my lifetime. But we we we
- 18:25Speaker 13: deal with that, we you and weekly because we think
- 18:28Speaker 13: Pirates unit.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of as any other Pirates fans
- 18:31Speaker 3: in the building. I don't think that there is. But
- 18:35Speaker 3: all right, so we got the Pirates down, who will right?
- 18:37Speaker 13: And then I know that the combined fandom of of
- 18:41Speaker 13: WVU and and Pittsburgh sports is a little bit controversial
- 18:44Speaker 13: for some people, but it's it is just a proximity
- 18:47Speaker 13: thing to the city of Pittsburgh Steelers fan in general.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Uh.
- 18:51Speaker 13: And then growing up as a the folks at home
- 18:56Speaker 13: can't see, you know. Radio is a visual medium, as
- 18:58Speaker 13: we all know. But I'm not the smallest guy in
- 19:01Speaker 13: the room, and I was more of a post player
- 19:04Speaker 13: during my basketball days. And as I was growing up,
- 19:07Speaker 13: became a huge fan of Karl Anthony Towns, so through
- 19:10Speaker 13: that became a Minnesota Timberwolves fan. So, not having an
- 19:13Speaker 13: NBA team in the market in the Pittsburgh or really
- 19:17Speaker 13: even anywhere generally close area around Morgantown, became a Minnesota
- 19:21Speaker 13: Timberwolves fan because of that. So that's the outlier. But
- 19:24Speaker 13: other than that, it's WVU and Pittsburgh teams that I
- 19:26Speaker 13: grew up rooting for, and the Penguins too.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Yeah, for the most part, Okay, all right, I gotta
- 19:30Speaker 3: throw that in because I've just become a hockey fan
- 19:32Speaker 3: of the last couple of years, and I'm a pans
- 19:34Speaker 3: gap sore. You go, and now we're going to be
- 19:36Speaker 3: hearing you calling the action of West Virginia State football
- 19:39Speaker 3: on the beat this season. Talk about how excited you
- 19:41Speaker 3: are for that and the preparation to get ready to
- 19:44Speaker 3: do these games.
- 19:44Speaker 13: I'm really fired up for it. We had a really
- 19:47Speaker 13: strong Division two product in our Martinsburg office with Shepherd
- 19:52Speaker 13: University that Luke Wiggs, who I mentioned before, is kind
- 19:55Speaker 13: of the head guy on and I was able to
- 19:57Speaker 13: be a part of that. And frankly, grow up in
- 20:00Speaker 13: West Virginia. You know there's WVU, there's Marshall. But as
- 20:05Speaker 13: someone who's just a sports fanatic, I have a really
- 20:07Speaker 13: strong appreciation for Division two athletics and there's really good
- 20:10Speaker 13: Division two athletes all over West Virginia. So getting ready
- 20:13Speaker 13: for West Virginia State, I think it's an exciting thing
- 20:16Speaker 13: to be able to bring to the table just because
- 20:19Speaker 13: it is a program that it seems to me, at
- 20:23Speaker 13: the very least with John Pennington at the Helm is
- 20:25Speaker 13: doing a lot of the right things and is going
- 20:27Speaker 13: to a lot of the right places in The Mountain
- 20:29Speaker 13: East Conference is such a fun competitive league from top
- 20:31Speaker 13: to bottom every year that I'm really excited than basketball season.
- 20:35Speaker 13: We don't have to get all the way into that,
- 20:36Speaker 13: but I have a ton of respect for Brian por
- 20:39Speaker 13: Cover in basketball in the state of West Virginia as well.
- 20:42Speaker 13: So I think getting ready for this football season obviously,
- 20:46Speaker 13: if I'm correct, got practices starting this week for the Yellowjackets.
- 20:49Speaker 13: I want to get out there talk to as many
- 20:51Speaker 13: people as possible. Know there's a new athletic director in
- 20:53Speaker 13: place as well that I need to meet with, and
- 20:57Speaker 13: I've got some personal connections to coach Pennington as well
- 21:01Speaker 13: that I want to get out there and shake his
- 21:03Speaker 13: hand and put a name to a face. But I'm
- 21:06Speaker 13: just really excited to hit the ground running and not
- 21:09Speaker 13: only serve as the voice for for the Yellow Jackets,
- 21:12Speaker 13: but get out there all over the state, all over
- 21:14Speaker 13: the NEC and all over Division two football.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Well, I want to go ahead and make a programming
- 21:18Speaker 3: note right now is you know every Friday I have
- 21:21Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence and Tom Bragg on the show to talk
- 21:23Speaker 3: about whatever high school games. So let's go ahead and
- 21:25Speaker 3: plan on you coming on on Friday mornings to talk
- 21:28Speaker 3: about not only West Virginia State, but all the other
- 21:30Speaker 3: schools and the Mountain East as well.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Sounds sounds great.
- 21:33Speaker 3: As long as your schedule allows, because we're going to
- 21:34Speaker 3: keep you pretty busy right here because you're doing sports news,
- 21:37Speaker 3: you know whatever. I think so, and you're gonna be
- 21:38Speaker 3: here for the backpack attack tomorrow. I believe that's what
- 21:42Speaker 3: you haven't lived. You seen the backpack attack. It will
- 21:44Speaker 3: be a lot of fun.
- 21:45Speaker 13: All I know is I walked in this morning and
- 21:47Speaker 13: and the Big Boss said, that's that space you parked
- 21:49Speaker 13: in this morning.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't park that tomorrow.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well yeah, that's uh. There'll be an email
- 21:54Speaker 3: from Tracy out front to go around everybody to her
- 21:56Speaker 3: mind us we're not allowed to park in the parking
- 21:58Speaker 3: lot tomorrow. We'll to park in the next lot over
- 22:00Speaker 3: because this parking lot is going to be filled with
- 22:02Speaker 3: vans and tents and so on and so forth and
- 22:04Speaker 3: about two thousand screaming kids and some screaming it is indeed,
- 22:11Speaker 3: but Dave Island Showing five eighty live is brought to
- 22:12Speaker 3: you apart by Meeks Rentals and Leasing. If you're a
- 22:14Speaker 3: landlord looking for reliable property management services, or a tenant
- 22:18Speaker 3: that's looking for a well maintained place to live. They
- 22:20Speaker 3: can help visit meeks rentals dot com. All right, so
- 22:22Speaker 3: this has become a tradition now with all the new
- 22:26Speaker 3: hires right here, and again, you're not a new hire,
- 22:28Speaker 3: but you're new to the building. Did they give you
- 22:29Speaker 3: an access key?
- 22:30Speaker 6: You got that?
- 22:30Speaker 9: Yes?
- 22:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't actually get in on my own. Now
- 22:33Speaker 3: tell you a funny story. We call Fred, Uncle Fred.
- 22:36Speaker 3: You know Uncle Fred went up to Morgantown for a
- 22:38Speaker 3: meeting last week and his access key didn't work. Oh no,
- 22:42Speaker 3: how could you do that? How can you do that
- 22:44Speaker 3: to Fred of all people? All right, so this is
- 22:46Speaker 3: a tradition we do. So I said, you're not really new,
- 22:48Speaker 3: you're just new the building. We're going to play ten questions,
- 22:50Speaker 3: Doniel Woods. That's right. Are are you ready?
- 22:52Speaker 6: I'm ready?
- 22:53Speaker 3: Okay now, And for our listeners at home, please don't

- 23:18Speaker 13: on this one. My mom was my elementary school fizzed teacher.
- 23:21Speaker 13: So I feel like I might. I feel like I
- 23:23Speaker 13: might get in trouble if I don't say missus Woods.
- 23:25Speaker 3: All right, especially if she's listening on the app right now.
- 23:27Speaker 6: There's a decent chance she is. That's the thing, all right.
- 23:29Speaker 13: The most beautiful place you've ever visited, Isle of Palm,
- 23:33Speaker 13: South Carolina.
- 23:33Speaker 3: All right, Betty or Wilma.
- 23:37Speaker 13: Oh that's that's a question that has never crossed my mind. Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 13: I'm gonna say Wilma.
- 23:42Speaker 6: Okay.
- 23:43Speaker 14: Uh.
- 23:43Speaker 3: The one musical act you will never get tired of
- 23:47Speaker 3: and could listen to over and over and over again.
- 23:50Speaker 6: The Beatles?
- 23:51Speaker 3: Okay, You and Ron Hughes will get along greater. Okay,
- 23:54Speaker 3: Colonel Ron? What goes on your burger? Let us on
- 23:59Speaker 3: your pickle? Ketch it mustard? All right? Your sports hero
- 24:04Speaker 3: is Andrew McCutcheon, all right, Your secret fear or phobia heights?
- 24:13Speaker 3: All time favorite movie? Oh, brother w Art though, all right,
- 24:17Speaker 3: you've passed.
- 24:18Speaker 6: That's it.
- 24:18Speaker 13: I'm I'm glad that I've I got at least at
- 24:21Speaker 13: least a seven out of ten.
- 24:22Speaker 6: You passing, Greg, you did.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Fine, You did fine. We'll be listening for you now.
- 24:25Speaker 3: So primarily you're gonna be on the morning news as
- 24:27Speaker 3: you have been for some time. But we're also gonna
- 24:29Speaker 3: hear you on the news, and we're gonna hear you
- 24:31Speaker 3: on West Virginia State football and basketball.
- 24:34Speaker 13: That's a plan, unless unless somebody decides to decides to
- 24:37Speaker 13: make a change, unless I make the wrong people upset.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing I've learned with this company, and
- 24:42Speaker 3: I've been here for five years. Okay, if you let them,
- 24:45Speaker 3: if you ever utter the phrase, is there anything I
- 24:48Speaker 3: can do to help, You'll be helping. Okay, Just so
- 24:51Speaker 3: you know, we'll be loading vans. We're gonna be live
- 24:56Speaker 3: this Saturady day. We're gonna be at Trojan Landing given
- 24:59Speaker 3: a way a thousand bucks in cash and a brand
- 25:02Speaker 3: new motorcycle. So we got to Kegs for canines. We'll
- 25:06Speaker 3: be there the Mountain will be there for that over
- 25:08Speaker 3: at Red Carpet Lounge raising money for the Kenneal Charlestney
- 25:12Speaker 3: Main Association. So we'll be there at Keggs for Canine.
- 25:14Speaker 3: So bottom line is, Daniel, if you tell people I'm
- 25:17Speaker 3: willing to help, they'll put you to work, right, That's
- 25:19Speaker 3: what we do here.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Well, I'm willing. I'm willing to get to work. I
- 25:23Speaker 6: will say.
- 25:24Speaker 13: The early the early days for the morning news may
- 25:27Speaker 13: preclude me from, I guess, afternoon and evening activities.
- 25:29Speaker 3: But normally what time you normally get up.
- 25:32Speaker 6: Let's see when.
- 25:34Speaker 13: I was when I was doing the morning news for Martinsburg,
- 25:37Speaker 13: four thirty was usually the time the alarm was set.
- 25:39Speaker 13: I would imagine getting settled here. It's going to be
- 25:41Speaker 13: a little earlier for the next few weeks.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Well, I mean, Jenkins and Lawrence hit the building at
- 25:45Speaker 3: about three thirty or four in the building, I.
- 25:48Speaker 13: Was gonna say, I'm I'm by all. I'm not not
- 25:50Speaker 13: not complaining at all compared to those guys, that's for sure.
- 25:53Speaker 3: All right, Daniel, in all seriousness, pleasure to have you here.
- 25:56Speaker 3: We've worked well together on the on Metro news midday

- 29:30Speaker 3: He's a little nervous anyway, and Jeff Jenkins comes running
- 29:33Speaker 3: in here, grabs him, you know, by the shoulder, pushes
- 29:35Speaker 3: him out of the way because we just learned on
- 29:37Speaker 3: that particular day that Jerry West had died and it
- 29:40Speaker 3: was breaking news. So the news guy got bumped for
- 29:44Speaker 3: breaking news on that particular day. Let me see here.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I got some text too, get to you here in
- 29:50Speaker 3: a moment. But I do want to talk a little
- 29:52Speaker 3: bit about National Night Out. Travis Bales from the Charleston
- 29:55Speaker 3: Police Department Shore, Welcome to the show, sir. How are
- 29:57Speaker 3: you any thanks for favous. I'm not going to play
- 29:59Speaker 3: the ten question game with you because you have a
- 30:01Speaker 3: badge and a gun. Okay, that's fine, it's fair enough,
- 30:04Speaker 3: all right, So let's talk about the event overall tonight,
- 30:06Speaker 3: National Night Out. I mean this is something that again
- 30:09Speaker 3: it's national, that's the name National Night Out, and police
- 30:11Speaker 3: departments across the country, several within West Virginia too. We
- 30:16Speaker 3: interviewed some folks on Metro News Midday yesterday having one
- 30:18Speaker 3: up in the Eastern Panhandle. It's just a way for
- 30:22Speaker 3: the police departments to interact with the communities, talk about them.
- 30:25Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a great way for not only the police department,
- 30:26Speaker 7: but the neighborhoods to come together, get to know their neighbors,
- 30:29Speaker 7: get to know us. It's all about unity and you know,
- 30:32Speaker 7: show them what can happen when people who live in
- 30:35Speaker 7: the same areas know each other.
- 30:37Speaker 3: So what what exactly is going to go on? What
- 30:38Speaker 3: time does everything get underway tonight?
- 30:40Speaker 7: And there's going to start about six until around eight o'clock.
- 30:43Speaker 7: We only have events at Orchard Manor, Carol Terrace, South
- 30:47Speaker 7: Park Village, and the nine hundred block at sixth Street
- 30:50Speaker 7: planned Carol excuse me, Orchard Manor.
- 30:53Speaker 9: There.
- 30:53Speaker 7: We're going to have assistance with the FBI and the
- 30:55Speaker 7: dj They're going to be there offering IDs for children
- 30:59Speaker 7: if they want them. We're gonna have.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Food for They explain that IDs for kids.
- 31:03Speaker 7: Why why would kid want an ID for the parents
- 31:05Speaker 7: to have in cases, you know, maybe their kid goes missing.
- 31:07Speaker 7: It'd be an easy way to streamline that information to
- 31:11Speaker 7: the law enforcement.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Okay, and what else is going on there?
- 31:13Speaker 7: Free food, We're gonna have hot dogs, We're gonna have
- 31:16Speaker 7: box lunches from sheets provided. And there's gonna be bounce houses,
- 31:20Speaker 7: games from Parks and rec and police cars there if
- 31:24Speaker 7: kids want to check them out, and just hanging out.
- 31:26Speaker 3: And again, sheets is a big part of this thing nationwide,
- 31:29Speaker 3: I think, I mean, I think this is kind of
- 31:31Speaker 3: their one of their initiatives as well. So the big
- 31:35Speaker 3: question is who's growing up the hot dogs.
- 31:37Speaker 7: It'll be a joint effort between the Aspire Achievement Project
- 31:40Speaker 7: and the Charleston Police Department of Parks and Rec. We're
- 31:42Speaker 7: gonna all hop on a grill.
- 31:43Speaker 3: And again, this is a great opportunity for It's not
- 31:46Speaker 3: only because and I guess, I guess Officer I didn't
- 31:50Speaker 3: phrase this correctly when I was talking about the importance
- 31:53Speaker 3: of the police department in this. It's not just that,
- 31:55Speaker 3: because it's a lot of times this is about the
- 31:57Speaker 3: community getting to know each other. Because you know, we
- 32:00Speaker 3: live in a society in West Virginia is the friendliest
- 32:03Speaker 3: place on earth. We all know that, but sometimes people
- 32:07Speaker 3: just don't as my dad used to say in the church,
- 32:09Speaker 3: they don't fellowship one with the other as much as
- 32:11Speaker 3: they as they used to. People even in West Virginia
- 32:14Speaker 3: can live on the same street or in the same
- 32:17Speaker 3: neighborhood with somebody you know for ten years and never
- 32:20Speaker 3: speak to them, and it's a great opportunity for the
- 32:22Speaker 3: neighbors to get to know each other as well.
- 32:23Speaker 7: Yeah, that's one hundred percent correct. Unfortunately, there are so
- 32:26Speaker 7: many neighborhoods where people don't know their neighbors. And when
- 32:29Speaker 7: you know the neighbors and you know the police officers,
- 32:32Speaker 7: crime goes down. That's been proven.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And talk about the importance of the police officers being
- 32:39Speaker 3: in the community when there's good stuff going on, because
- 32:42Speaker 3: i mean, let's face it, in certain areas all over
- 32:46Speaker 3: the country, the only time they see somebody that looks
- 32:48Speaker 3: like you is if something's gone wrong.
- 32:50Speaker 7: Yeah, we want people to know that they don't just
- 32:52Speaker 7: need to see us when they call nine one one.
- 32:54Speaker 7: We're here for them anytime they need us. And we're
- 32:56Speaker 7: not just badges. We're people were you know coach is,
- 33:00Speaker 7: we're you know, fathers and mothers, and we're just people
- 33:03Speaker 7: that are out here trying to help and trying to
- 33:05Speaker 7: do the right thing.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Talk about some of your experiences in the past at
- 33:08Speaker 3: these at events similar to this, some some success door.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Not to mention the kid's name or anything, but just
- 33:13Speaker 3: talk about some of the things that you've seen at
- 33:15Speaker 3: these events over the years.
- 33:16Speaker 7: The kids coming out and hanging out with us, little kids,
- 33:19Speaker 7: they love us, and we want to keep that going
- 33:22Speaker 7: as long.
- 33:22Speaker 8: As we can.
- 33:23Speaker 7: As kids get older, they might get a little, you know,
- 33:26Speaker 7: disgruntled towards us, but we want to we want to
- 33:28Speaker 7: break that wall and let them know that, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 7: we're not.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Anything but here to help them well.
- 33:34Speaker 3: And I think sometimes we talked about that with a
- 33:36Speaker 3: police officer yesterday. Actually it was the sheriff of Jefferson County.
- 33:39Speaker 3: We had on Metro News midday yesterday. We talked about
- 33:42Speaker 3: that with him, that sometimes parents trying to get the
- 33:46Speaker 3: kids to calm down to look. You know, my parents
- 33:49Speaker 3: did the same thing, saying I'm going to call the
- 33:51Speaker 3: police on you if you if you don't behave, you
- 33:53Speaker 3: don't do your homework, you don't clean up whatever, We're
- 33:55Speaker 3: going to call the police.
- 33:56Speaker 9: Oney.
- 33:57Speaker 3: They don't really mean anything bad by it, but it
- 33:59Speaker 3: can put some negative vibes out there.
- 34:01Speaker 7: It can you know, parents like to throw that out there.
- 34:04Speaker 7: They see its ound in public, say I'm gonna get
- 34:06Speaker 7: that guy to arriscue if you don't start behaving, We're
- 34:08Speaker 7: not going to do that. If anything, we're gonna give
- 34:10Speaker 7: them a stick or badge and you know, send him underway.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you know it's kid. We're talking about Travis Beales
- 34:15Speaker 3: from the Charleston Police Department. National Night Out is going
- 34:17Speaker 3: on throughout the city of Charleston to night also, it's
- 34:20Speaker 3: going on I think what I think Dunbar was one
- 34:23Speaker 3: of the other communities that's going to be doing this,
- 34:24Speaker 3: but it's going on all all around America. And again
- 34:28Speaker 3: it's an opportunity to for for residents of the communities
- 34:32Speaker 3: to say thank you to you folks. I know that's
- 34:35Speaker 3: not why you're doing it, but unfortunately, you know, you
- 34:39Speaker 3: guys have had a bad rap the last couple of years.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Not Charleston police, I mean police in general. I mean
- 34:45Speaker 3: the national narrative. We've all seen it. It's hard to
- 34:48Speaker 3: find people to want to come to be police officers
- 34:51Speaker 3: because of the things that you you have to put
- 34:53Speaker 3: up with. So if you're somebody that's living in the community.
- 34:56Speaker 3: It would be a great opportunity, just like you would
- 34:58Speaker 3: with a veteran, to go up and shake their hands,
- 35:00Speaker 3: say we appreciate what you do.
- 35:01Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, we appreciate that very much. We do know
- 35:04Speaker 7: that the silent majority are the ones that do appreciate
- 35:07Speaker 7: us and love the work we do. And we're always
- 35:10Speaker 7: happy to meet folks that want to, you know, tell
- 35:14Speaker 7: us how you know what's going on in their community
- 35:16Speaker 7: or what we can do to help them, or just
- 35:17Speaker 7: show appreciation.
- 35:18Speaker 3: And when it comes to policing, especially in larger areas
- 35:23Speaker 3: well even smaller areas, I guess for that matter, it's
- 35:27Speaker 3: you guys depend so much on the community. I mean,
- 35:32Speaker 3: there's something going on, you know, the community is going
- 35:35Speaker 3: to let you know about it. Yeah, And talk about
- 35:38Speaker 3: that relationship with the community and how important it is
- 35:40Speaker 3: to do in policing right.
- 35:42Speaker 7: Absolutely, we can't do our jobs without the community telling
- 35:45Speaker 7: us what to do. We can't be on every street
- 35:47Speaker 7: corner twenty four to seven, So we need the community
- 35:49Speaker 7: to trust us that we're going to do our job.
- 35:52Speaker 7: If they call us, and that's what this event is about,
- 35:55Speaker 7: they can get to know us on a more personal
- 35:56Speaker 7: level and know that we're just not a police guard
- 35:59Speaker 7: that's going to show up and they call us. We're
- 36:01Speaker 7: real people that want to help with the real problems
- 36:04Speaker 7: that they may be having because we live here too.
- 36:07Speaker 3: What was it about this that made you want to
- 36:09Speaker 3: do this to be a police officer? What was it
- 36:11Speaker 3: that was that something that from an early age you
- 36:13Speaker 3: wanted to do or something maybe later in life you said, well,
- 36:16Speaker 3: I kind of fell into this job as many people do.
- 36:18Speaker 3: What was it for you that made you want to
- 36:20Speaker 3: do this?
- 36:20Speaker 7: Well, growing up, like a lot of people, I followed
- 36:23Speaker 7: in my father's footsteps. He was a deputy for thirty years, okay,
- 36:26Speaker 7: and you know, but other than that, you get to
- 36:29Speaker 7: get out here and the old cliche, it's a front
- 36:32Speaker 7: road seat to the greatest show in the world. It's
- 36:35Speaker 7: something different every day and you can truly help people.
- 36:38Speaker 7: You're not going to change the world, but you can
- 36:39Speaker 7: change somebody's world. You can get back that weed eater
- 36:42Speaker 7: that was stolen from the gram all up the street
- 36:45Speaker 7: and really make her a day.
- 36:46Speaker 6: And that's that's what it's all about.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And where we're talking to it with the officer
- 36:49Speaker 3: Travis Bales of the City of Charleston Police Department about
- 36:52Speaker 3: the national Night Out event that's going to be going
- 36:54Speaker 3: on here in this area, but it's also going on
- 36:56Speaker 3: across the country as well, and it's it is I
- 37:00Speaker 3: on us a little bit. We're not going to solve
- 37:01Speaker 3: this here today, but it's difficult to get people to
- 37:03Speaker 3: want to do what you guys and gals do for
- 37:07Speaker 3: a living. I know, anytime I have police office, police
- 37:10Speaker 3: departments on, I have, you know, the sheriff's on whatever,
- 37:14Speaker 3: they always say, we need people, we need people. What
- 37:17Speaker 3: would you say to somebody that is considering, maybe a
- 37:21Speaker 3: young younger person entering adulthood right now, interthinking, well, I
- 37:24Speaker 3: may want to become a police officer. What would be
- 37:28Speaker 3: your selling point to them?
- 37:30Speaker 7: Well, I can't speak for everywhere in the United States,
- 37:32Speaker 7: but I can say here in Charleston, we are one
- 37:33Speaker 7: of the best agencies around. We have great support, not
- 37:38Speaker 7: just with the administration but with the community. We are
- 37:41Speaker 7: able to get out here and do our jobs and
- 37:43Speaker 7: be police officers and try to make a difference. You know,
- 37:48Speaker 7: nationwide there has been issues with recruiting, but we are
- 37:51Speaker 7: getting better here. Maybe you saw yesterday we just hired five.
- 37:55Speaker 3: More Yeah, Actually, I had to Mayor on the show
- 37:56Speaker 3: yesterday and she had to cut her interview a little
- 37:58Speaker 3: bit short because she was going to go and swear
- 38:01Speaker 3: in five new police officers.
- 38:02Speaker 7: Yeah, and we gave an hiring test last weekend and
- 38:06Speaker 7: we've got a pretty nice list going. So I'm optimistic
- 38:09Speaker 7: about that and we'll hopefully get a few more by
- 38:12Speaker 7: the end of the year. No say, but you still
- 38:13Speaker 7: need more, right, We always need more because there's always
- 38:16Speaker 7: retirements and other means of attrition.
- 38:18Speaker 3: All right, Hey, officer, I appreciate you being here. Give
- 38:22Speaker 3: us the details again about National Night Out of what
- 38:24Speaker 3: specifically where you're going to be and what's going to
- 38:26Speaker 3: be going on tonight.
- 38:27Speaker 7: All right, National Night Out. It's gonna be six to
- 38:29Speaker 7: eight pm tonight. We're gonna have events at Orchard Manor,
- 38:32Speaker 7: carol Terrace, South Park Village, and the nine hundred block.
- 38:35Speaker 5: At six Street.
- 38:36Speaker 7: There's going to be food at all those locations and
- 38:37Speaker 7: activities for the kids. There'll probably be the biggest events
- 38:41Speaker 7: going on at Orchard Manor. But more than welcome to
- 38:44Speaker 7: stop by at anyone and see us and get some
- 38:46Speaker 7: up deep.
- 38:46Speaker 3: All right, officer, I appreciate you being here. Thank you

- 42:25Speaker 3: cities stop Scared Straight programs for out of control kids?
- 42:30Speaker 3: They work great now. Look at kids how they treat
- 42:33Speaker 3: each other, parents, police, and teachers these days.
- 42:36Speaker 6: If you don't know what.
- 42:37Speaker 3: We're talking about.
- 42:38Speaker 9: Uh.
- 42:39Speaker 3: And I remember this well, Thank you so much for
- 42:41Speaker 3: the text. I remember this well. In the late seventies,
- 42:45Speaker 3: I think it maybe was PBS that did a series.
- 42:51Speaker 3: It was called Scared Straight. And they brought these kids
- 42:55Speaker 3: in uh and had criminals, hardened criminals to talk to them.
- 43:01Speaker 3: And when I say they talk to them, they weren't,
- 43:04Speaker 3: you know, saying okay, straighten up and fly right. No,
- 43:07Speaker 3: they were in their face, cussing them, calling him everything
- 43:09Speaker 3: in the world. And they would get a young a
- 43:11Speaker 3: young guy that thought he was kind of tough for
- 43:13Speaker 3: a young girl, get up in their faces and you
- 43:15Speaker 3: think you're tough, Way do we get you in here?
- 43:17Speaker 3: Kind of a thing. And uh, I I don't know
- 43:20Speaker 3: how how much success the program had. But I can
- 43:25Speaker 3: tell you, uh that the name Scared Straight was was
- 43:29Speaker 3: pretty accurate for kids of my of my generation. I mean,
- 43:33Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean I'm sure, I'm sure somebody
- 43:35Speaker 3: would complain about it.
- 43:36Speaker 10: Now.
- 43:36Speaker 3: You know that that uh that you're going to hurt
- 43:39Speaker 3: their feelings or something like that. Well, you know what,
- 43:42Speaker 3: that's probably not a bad thing to hurt their hurt
- 43:44Speaker 3: their feelings because at some point, kids are gonna have
- 43:48Speaker 3: to learn, uh that life's not fair. And if you
- 43:51Speaker 3: if I had any advice at all for anybody, it
- 43:54Speaker 3: would be, you know, teach your kids life's not fair. Uh,
- 43:59Speaker 3: just tell them straight up. You're gonna get screwed over
- 44:02Speaker 3: sometimes and sometimes you're gonna get advantages that you shouldn't get.
- 44:06Speaker 2: So so there you go.
- 44:08Speaker 3: But I would be all for bringing programs like that back.
- 44:11Speaker 3: I don't know what the like I said, I don't
- 44:13Speaker 3: know what the success rate is. I have a hard
- 44:15Speaker 3: time believing that you could do that today. But we
- 44:17Speaker 3: do have a general lack of respect. We have a
- 44:19Speaker 3: general lack of respect in society though, and I don't
- 44:22Speaker 3: think it's I don't think it's fair to uh uh
- 44:26Speaker 3: to blame to blame just kids, because we have a
- 44:32Speaker 3: lack of respect in our society all around, and there
- 44:34Speaker 3: are plenty of adults that could learn that as well.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Coming up on the show tomorrow, we're gonna have a
- 44:42Speaker 3: whole boatload of people here talking about the next ribbon cutting,
- 44:45Speaker 3: the next project out of the Shawnee Sports Complex, uh
- 44:48Speaker 3: some of their expansion. They got a business after hours
- 44:50Speaker 3: going on. As I said, there's gonna be a ribbon
- 44:52Speaker 3: cutting held, uh so in studio tomorrow. Kenawh County Commission
- 44:55Speaker 3: President Ben Selango, Katie Arthur, who is executive director of
- 45:00Speaker 3: the Shawnee Sports Complex, Jen Wood from ZMM Architects and Engineers,
- 45:04Speaker 3: and Mara Boggs of the Charleston Area Alliance. They're all
- 45:06Speaker 3: going to be in studio tomorrow. So let's see that's
- 45:10Speaker 3: one two. Yeah, Okay, we're gonna have to have extra chairs, Ryan,
- 45:14Speaker 3: and we're gonna put somebody in there think share a
- 45:16Speaker 3: mike though, Well we'll make Selango stand. But yeah, they're
- 45:19Speaker 3: all going to be on the show tomorrow. Now later
- 45:22Speaker 3: today Metro News Midday with thirteen News and Tonight Live
- 45:24Speaker 3: anchor Amanda Baron and me. The show is still a
- 45:26Speaker 3: work in progress. I can tell you that during the
- 45:29Speaker 3: two o'clock hour, Republican strategist Greg Thomas is going to
- 45:32Speaker 3: stop by. We'll do open line West Virginia after two
- 45:34Speaker 3: thirty and a good buddy, Jim Workman from the state's
- 45:37Speaker 3: premier sports publication, Wally and Whippies, will join us in
- 45:42Speaker 3: studio as well. Believe it or not, now that we're
- 45:44Speaker 3: in the month of August, I mean, Joe Bricado of
- 45:46Speaker 3: Metro News Sports is all over the state of West Virginia.
- 45:48Speaker 3: I was following his travels yesterday on X I mean
- 45:52Speaker 3: he was in I think he visited Spring Valley High
- 45:55Speaker 3: School yesterday in Wayne County. He was a Tug Valley
- 45:57Speaker 3: High School. To Mingo County, he was at GW. He's
- 46:01Speaker 3: really really making the round. So high school football season
- 46:05Speaker 3: is coming up, and of course we're going to have
- 46:06Speaker 3: our Game of the Week and also Herbert Hoover Football
- 46:09Speaker 3: this fall as well. But anyway, Jim Workman's going to
- 46:11Speaker 3: join us to talk about some preseason polls as it
- 46:13Speaker 3: comes to high school sports. He'll be joining Amanda and
- 46:16Speaker 3: me coming up from noon to three on this another
- 46:18Speaker 3: Metro News station's Metro News Midday is powered by Selango Law.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Visits Selango Law dot com. Texas Scared Straight didn't work
- 46:26Speaker 3: in West Virginia considering a large part of gen X
- 46:28Speaker 3: and millennials were taken out by opioids. That's that's not wrong.
- 46:33Speaker 3: I mean it's and here's the thing. And I've said
- 46:37Speaker 3: this on the show before, and I don't want to
- 46:39Speaker 3: come across with somebody who looks like, you know, I'm
- 46:40Speaker 3: always complaining about these young kids today or whatever, But
- 46:44Speaker 3: we put a lot of we give a lot of
- 46:48Speaker 3: grief to the young people, you know, but who raised
- 46:52Speaker 3: the young people? It was my generation. I mean, I'll
- 46:55Speaker 3: be fifty five years old next month, so I didn't
- 46:58Speaker 3: have kids. But if my wife and I will have
- 47:00Speaker 3: had kids, our kids would have been of that age
- 47:03Speaker 3: right now. So before you go blaming these kids today,
- 47:08Speaker 3: somebody had to raise him. It was gen X that
- 47:11Speaker 3: raised them to be the way they are, you know,
- 47:13Speaker 3: So I get it. I get it. Someone called, according
- 47:20Speaker 3: to producer Ryan, wanted to know why our representatives aren't
- 47:24Speaker 3: holding town halls. We talked about this on the show yesterday.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I can't answer that, you know, say what you want
- 47:33Speaker 3: about Bernie Sanders. I am certainly one hundred percent not
- 47:37Speaker 3: a fan of Bernie Sanders at all. But he does
- 47:42Speaker 3: get out to the people, I'll say that. And he
- 47:45Speaker 3: is going to Mingo County, West Virginia later this week,
- 47:48Speaker 3: which I don't think is a very smart move. I'm
- 47:50Speaker 3: not saying anything bad is going to happen or anything
- 47:52Speaker 3: like that, but I know there's gonna be some good
- 47:54Speaker 3: old boys with jacked up pickup trucks and the Trump signs.
- 47:57Speaker 3: I've already seen them on line. We're headed to We're
- 47:59Speaker 3: head to Leonore in Mingo County. Bernie's going to be
- 48:02Speaker 3: in Leonore, He's going to be in Wheeling, He's going
- 48:04Speaker 3: to be in Charleston, and there's going to be people
- 48:06Speaker 3: showing up with MAGA hats and whatever.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I give him credit.
- 48:09Speaker 3: I don't like the guy and nothing is personally. I
- 48:12Speaker 3: just don't like his policies, but he gets out and
- 48:15Speaker 3: men to people, and there's a lot of people, a
- 48:18Speaker 3: lot of elected officials that don't do that. I mean,
- 48:22Speaker 3: somebody brought up yesterday the fact that Mayor Goodwin comes
- 48:26Speaker 3: in the studio once a month and takes phone calls
- 48:30Speaker 3: and it's open line, and a lot of our elected
- 48:33Speaker 3: officials simply will not do that. They we ask would
- 48:37Speaker 3: you like to take phone calls?
- 48:38Speaker 9: Oh?
- 48:38Speaker 3: No, no, no, And that's okay if they don't want
- 48:41Speaker 3: to do it, but you know she does. I will
- 48:45Speaker 3: say that any Texas jerry mandering updates. Last I heard,
- 48:50Speaker 3: I guess the Democrats in Texas walked out because they
- 48:56Speaker 3: didn't want to have this vote on this whole jerryman
- 49:00Speaker 3: redistricting thing, and so they all went to Illinois's and
- 49:02Speaker 3: the governor up there. I think it's giving them, like
- 49:04Speaker 3: made it like a sanctuary city or something for the
- 49:07Speaker 3: Democrats up there. You know, I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 49:10Speaker 3: There's talk that, you know, they may be arrested, but
- 49:15Speaker 3: then you get into a whole jurisdiction kind of thing.
- 49:17Speaker 3: I mean, can Texas rangers or whatever go into Illinois
- 49:20Speaker 3: and arrest somebody I don't know tex says JFC, And
- 49:25Speaker 3: I know what JFC stands for. Are you all so
- 49:28Speaker 3: dense to think that scared straight works? What evidence do
- 49:31Speaker 3: you have?
- 49:32Speaker 2: None?
- 49:33Speaker 3: But your feelings tell you at work, brilliant strategy, use
- 49:35Speaker 3: evidence based approaches if you want real results, says a textra.
- 49:40Speaker 3: What do you not like about Bernie Sanders, says the Texter. Yes,
- 49:43Speaker 3: good for Amy for showing up and answering all questions.
- 49:48Speaker 3: How much time you got on Bernie Sanders. Because I'm
- 49:51Speaker 3: a capitalist. That's why I don't like Bernie Sanders. Because
- 49:53Speaker 3: I'm a capitalist. I'm not against him personally. I mean,
- 49:56Speaker 3: I guess he's an alright guy for one hundred and
- 49:57Speaker 3: eighty eight year old. But why would I like Bernie Sanders?
- 50:02Speaker 3: I'm a capitalist?
- 50:04Speaker 2: TJ.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Meadows hey Man also.
- 50:07Speaker 18: A capitalist as a good Socialism is great for about
- 50:10Speaker 18: all thirty minutes or so.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Until you run out of other people's money. Yes, as Margaret,
- 50:14Speaker 3: that's you said me exactly, all right, exactly going on
- 50:17Speaker 3: with you?
- 50:18Speaker 18: Well, you know I'm hanging out, Okay, I'm hanging out,
- 50:22Speaker 18: enjoying the last little bit of summer. School starts back
- 50:24Speaker 18: next week. We were talking on our planning call this morning.
- 50:27Speaker 18: I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for that,
- 50:29Speaker 18: you know, dropping off kiddies. And I know you love
- 50:31Speaker 18: that in the Greater tayste Metroplex, all the drop offs.
- 50:35Speaker 18: You're a big fan of that.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Don't get me started, don't get me started. Don't get
- 50:40Speaker 3: me started time year. Part of the fun of being
- 50:43Speaker 3: a kid is being bullied on the school bus. Okay,
- 50:46Speaker 3: it builds a character as long as it doesn't go,
- 50:49Speaker 3: as long as it doesn't get out of hand. And
- 50:50Speaker 3: don't get me started on these entitled kids and these
- 50:53Speaker 3: entitled parents that take their kid. I'm not talking about
- 50:55Speaker 3: every parent. Okay, there are certain exceptions. I get that,
- 50:59Speaker 3: but you can't tell me that every one of those
- 51:02Speaker 3: those kids that that I encounter at as I'm trying
- 51:05Speaker 3: to make my way and and please don't tell me.
- 51:08Speaker 3: As the texture said last year, when I went off
- 51:10Speaker 3: on a big rant about this, they were like, they said, well,
- 51:12Speaker 3: just leave earlier. Why should I have to leave early?
- 51:14Speaker 3: Put your kids on damn bus. That's that's why we're
- 51:18Speaker 3: paying them. That's why we're paying The bus is a
- 51:20Speaker 3: run at thirty about thirty percent capacity.
- 51:23Speaker 18: Do you ever see the part of the Napoleon Dynamite
- 51:25Speaker 18: where he throws the wrestler figure or whatever out the
- 51:27Speaker 18: window and it drags along.
- 51:28Speaker 6: We had a kid that did that on the you know,
- 51:31Speaker 6: child of the eighties.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I walked to school for crying out loud. Yeah, we
- 51:35Speaker 3: looked to school. Our bus stop was about half a
- 51:40Speaker 3: mile walk. I guess it probably wasn't that far, but
- 51:43Speaker 3: we did have kids in our community that did walk
- 51:47Speaker 3: at least two miles.
- 51:47Speaker 18: I will say this though, the way people text and drive,
- 51:49Speaker 18: I wouldn't let my kid walk on the side, walk
- 51:51Speaker 18: along the road. I mean, because it's how many. You
- 51:54Speaker 18: see it all the time. I see it all the time.
- 51:56Speaker 18: It's crazy.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Bernie's not against making money, says the texture. Dude made
- 51:59Speaker 3: tens of millions of dollars writing books. He's against consolidating
- 52:02Speaker 3: wealth to a few people while American starve and die,
- 52:05Speaker 3: like a healthcare?
- 52:05Speaker 6: How much wealth?
- 52:06Speaker 3: Why should Bernie be the arbiter of how much money?
- 52:10Speaker 6: Is too much money?
- 52:10Speaker 3: Answer me that exactly. There is no such thing as
- 52:14Speaker 3: too much money socialists. Yeah, all right, all right, I
- 52:17Speaker 3: set the stages for you, buddy. What else you got
- 52:19Speaker 3: on the show today?
- 52:19Speaker 2: So Brad Mack is in.
- 52:20Speaker 3: He's going to talk about that Snap waiver that we
- 52:22Speaker 3: got yesterday. We'll also talk about green power.
- 52:25Speaker 18: We're going to get into snap as well with the
- 52:27Speaker 18: West Virginia Oil Marketer and Groceries Association.
- 52:30Speaker 3: How will affect these retailers.
- 52:32Speaker 18: We'll talk about jerry mandring in Texas late US there,
- 52:35Speaker 18: that and w hole much more.
- 52:36Speaker 3: All right, I'll be along with Metro News midday with
- 52:38Speaker 3: thirteen News in TONIGHTLVE anchor Amanda Baron and me coming
- 52:41Speaker 3: up at noon today. We'll see you then I'll be
- 52:44Speaker 3: back on the show tomorrow. Till next time, have fun.
- 52:46Speaker 3: I Love Somebody, y Ay w C H S A M.
- 53:04Speaker 9: Ninety six point five. That's on Charleston one oh four
- 53:06Speaker 9: point five Cross Lane w VRC Media Station. We're proud
- 53:12Speaker 9: to live here, to
