- 0:22SPEAKER_02: We're advising them.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: We're going.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Jeff, you know, I I I went back to Google Apathetics, you know, and uh they said that our show was the fastest rising show of the week.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: Can you believe that, Jeff?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's hard to even imagine it to tell you the truth, the way you describe it.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I'm exhausted.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: I feel like I need a break.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: I actually fell asleep after I read that.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: I I kind of like passed out.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: I've been drinking all day, but I don't know.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I think it was the news that did it, really.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: You know, no, I think it was the news that because it was just so shocking and so, and you know, you know, Jeff, really, with with this show and with our which by the way, this show is available wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: You listen to podcasts on Apple, Apple Podcasts, we're there.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: You listen to this on Spotify, we're there.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: This morning, Steve, I I woke up and I said to uh uh Alexa, well, I said a couple different things, but one of the things I said to Alexa was uh once she slapped Steve and Jeff show.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: She gave me a couple smart ass responses, but then eventually played it.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: So Alexa is a little bit better.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: So of course she gave you smart ass responses, Jeff.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: She's a fan, she's a listener, she knows our comedy, she knows what we do, Jeff.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Steve, one more thing.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: As we look at our outreach, our growth, I always go back to the episode where we were um reading the letters.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Remember?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: And uh it might have been when we had we had call-ins, it might have been the the call-ins, and there seemed to be a lot of young people who responded to our show.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Do you remember like the five-year-olds?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: And and you know, it was it was it was pretty impressive.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: We are so strong with that critical zero to five demographic.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: All advertisers want that because they've got the money.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Everybody knows that, Jeff.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Everybody knows that.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: And so that's and they love our show.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: They love our show.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: And and in fact, now, Jeff, let me just say that you can listen to us on any podcast service that's right, other than that one that you long or you, you know, you you liver, uh whatever.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: But other than that one, but everywhere else, everywhere else in the world, you can listen to it, and and you can also go to our website, stephenjeff.com.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: But you know, Jeff, talking about that zero to five demographic, yeah.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: I am so glad you brought that up because that yeah, that's our guest tonight really is part of that zero to five demographic.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Now he's not a kid, he's not zero to five himself.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, but you know, Jeff, we we not only want to serve the zero to five demographic, we want to help entertain them because we want to help them laugh.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Who needs to laugh more than kids?
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: How much Sesame Street can they watch before they get bored?
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: And is that funny?
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: They're smarter than that.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: I think they're smarter than that.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: And is that funny?
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: That's I mean, what do you laugh?
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's brought to you by the letter M.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, you know, I'm I'm I'm falling over.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Come on, you know, that's it's not it's not funny, you know.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: This now, what would be funny?
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Funny, Jeff.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Funny is a clown at a kid's birthday party.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: That's funny for that zero to five demographic.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: It's funny.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: They you know, it they have a uh developed sense of humor.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, I mean, I I think you and I both were shocked, surprised, elated that in our worldwide search for talent for 2023 that we found uh the comic, a clown that is focused on children, which I think and he's and he is in our studio tonight at eccentric lady Land Studios.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: He is perfect just the other side of that glass, and his name, his name is David Lopez.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: David, welcome to the show.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Hey, how are you doing?
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Hey David, David, you you you do such important work, you're making kids laugh, you're bringing joy to little children all over.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: It's just that much.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: How did you get started doing that important work?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I knew that that was an untapped market.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Uh kids control a lot of their parents' money.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I figured it's it's it's I I get a lot of shit from the other clowns because I don't use props or I'm in it for the money, but um no, it's it's mostly all about the money.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: I know I smell the money and that's where I go.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Well, and and that is exactly where the money is in those kids' birthday parties.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, so so you don't waste time with like uh balloon animals and honking the nose and things like that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: You just go right to the go right to the payoff.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Right to the material.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: The kids love it.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: They they can't get enough of it.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: They seem to really relate with a lot of it.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: They understand a lot of uh a lot of some of my material.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: They they know um like the taste of breast milk, they they can relate to that.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: It's a recent memory for a lot of them.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yep, yeah.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Now, David, do you do you like to perform before they nap or after?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I know there's a plus and minus to either either way, but how do you like to do that?
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Well, with the pre-nap crowds, you get you get a lot of uh rowdier, a lot more hecklers.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But uh it always turns out for a great show.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: But either way, and or you know, the my preference would be a pre-nap crowd, a nap an after nap crowd seems to be seems to be a lot more sleepier, you know.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: They're still wiping the dust out of their eyes.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: You know, you know, my lawyer told me that I should get one of those pre-naps before I got married.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: I didn't listen to him.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, I think he was right.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: You should have stayed.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: He's right, yeah.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: That's yeah, the the that's that's a better, that's a better crowd, the pre-nap crowd.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Never go wrong with a pre-nap crowd.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, right.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one more quick question about that.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Are the teachers in the room when you're performing?
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Are the parents sometimes there?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Do they get the word that you're gonna you're gonna be coming?
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I like what kind of audience do you end up with?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: And and how do you decide you know how to zero in on what audience is going to be there?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: They seem to get a real kick out of my material as well, and uh they're a real hoop.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, and and you know, in fact, uh, in fact, David, we've got we have our little spies everywhere, and we actually sent some people out because we heard you were gonna do some birthday parties, and we've got a couple of clips.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: You know how you know on the big talk shows, like the tonight show when somebody comes on and they have a film clip and they well, we if we're gonna be a big talk show, we gotta do that too.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: So we we sent our we sent our spies out and we recorded you at uh the birthday party for uh little uh let's see, little Kelsey McGee, her sixth birthday party.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: I remember that party.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I'm excited.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: The punch.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Can't wait to hear this.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was I bet I bet it was a good one.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, why don't we uh why don't we just listen to some of that here?
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Let me uh let me see.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: All right, let's uh let's let's just listen to that, shall we?
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Probably not a lot of parents in front, but uh I'll go with it.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Uh I took my kid to Chuck E.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Cheese recently.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I found out she's way too old to be breastfed.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Um awkward way to find out, you know, all the other two-year-olds are out of breath, they're at the drinking fountain, they're like, just drinking water like fucking kids, nasty kids do.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And uh my baby looks right at my girl and she's like, it's meanie's time, you know?
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna get me a meanie right now.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, she's trying to take my girl's titty out and chuck the cheese, you know, from the hang of the hen and fucking giving them all a show, you know?
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: I know where she's coming from.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Uh if you ever had brass milk, citty milk, chest milk, whatever you want to call it.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: It's delicious.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: It's like a better almond milk.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: It seems you guys think like a crowd drink almond milk.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: It's like a better almond milk, a more fuller oat milk.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: It's delicious.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: That was just for one drop, alright?
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: My baby's an asshole.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: It's fucking crazy how much of an asshole she is.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: They didn't give me a pamphlet on at the hospital on how to fight a baby for Titty Space, but it's something I gotta do.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: So one, two, five, get out of here, you know?
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: We would have had twins, I would have had no problem knocking two babies off the tick, because like I said, that stuff's delicious.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: It's it's a baby for a reason.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: They keep it locked up for a reason, you know?
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Yo, now, now, now, David, we've got a whole lot more on this clip from uh Kelsey McGee's sixth birthday party, but just I did I just gotta tell you, I I I just think it's wonderful the way you relate to that audience.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: You know, you it's like you make yourself a zero to five.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: That's wonderful.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Yep, yep.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: I know that's the content is so good, David.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: It's so right on.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: These kids know what breastfeeding is like.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: I know that they might also know other zero to five-year-olds that are also assholes.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So, you know, they can they can relate with the little things.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Yes, oh they they can relate.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: They when you said that, they're probably thinking, yeah, Tom, or they got somebody in they have somebody in, they have a name in mind.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they got Timmy.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Timmy.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: Yep, yeah, yep.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I knew Timmy.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: He was an asshole, yeah.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: But oh, but you know what?
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Let's uh uh let's let's hear the rest of Tel C T.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to hear.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, I've been watching a lot of daytime television because that's what you do when you're at home sick, you know.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Me and my baby were watching uh Rachel Ray fuck up our heritage.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know who told her to cook Mexican food, but she's doing it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: And uh it's happening, I guess.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: I'm cursing at the TV like fucking Rachel Ray, and then I gotta explain to my girl why our baby's running around the house cursing Rachel Ray's name.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I'd rather my baby watch Lawn Order Special Victor's unit.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: I'd rather she walk around the house going boom boom.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: Rachel Ray.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Uh they gotta get her on her own channel.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Separate her.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: They could call it WET White Entitlement Television.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: That'd be pretty good.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Rachel Ray's on White Entitlement Television.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Or uh WAP.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: WAP was pretty big.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Uh we could bring that back, but uh instead of what it was, it could be uh white appropriation programming.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Again, just Rachel Ray all day selling her shit food.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Um a big Mexican family.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: I hate stereotyping that, but uh, it made my life like an episode of Beyond State Straight, you know?
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: A bunch of convicts down at me, get your back together, people.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: You just got out of jail like seven days ago, dog.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Like we're driving back to grandma's house where we both live, you know?
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Like screen dog.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: He gave me my first bowl of weed called a hand bottana and said it was the best of both worlds.
- 11:08unknown: Alright.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: With a bitch like that, fucking who would have smoked that bowl, right?
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Best of both worlds, here I go.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Sending our alarms off.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, David, you know, I I'm just so impressed because that is that's just so that's so important.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: That joy, that happiness.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: You could hear it in their voices.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: The joy and happiness you were bringing to those kids at that birthday party.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: That's just that that's so that's important for our for our country, for our for our show.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: And this show is all about the family, the connections, the the kids, the growth.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: And that's it's you're you're right there, David.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: You are right there.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I like to to give them a little like uh message, you know, try to warn them about uh drugs and the dangers of possibly, you know, doing drugs and how people might approach you, but I like to do it in a joking manner.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Um I get a lot of flack from the moms that stay and watch for the the Rachel Ray stuff.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Um they seem to enjoy her cooking.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: You can see that, but you know, you can't win them all.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, and and David, you also do something that only the great comedians do, which is they can reach different segments of people at the same time with the same humor.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Like I you know, I'm an old guy.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I remember Jonathan Winters, you know, he would he would appeal to people on, you know, if they were young people, if they were older people, Robin Williams is like that, you know, where he would he could he could appeal to children or adults.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: And when I listen to this, I'm laughing really hard.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: It's hard for me to control myself, and I hear the kids laughing, and it's just it it it's such an amazing skill.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Where did you develop that, David?
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Just just growing up, uh like I I'm the youngest, so uh I just when you're a young kid with a bunch of siblings, you learn to talk a lot of shit.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, you uh you tend to pick up ways to get under people's skin, and then also just to make quick street jokes, I guess.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: And it's just always been you know something I've I've done.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, and and you know, David, usually in our shows, and and I'm I know David, David's a fan, David's a listener, he's listened to you've listened to all our podcasts, haven't you?
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: And so you you you probably know that usually about this time in the show, we'll do a commercial.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, we just wanted to let you know, David, we're not gonna do a commercial tonight.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: Don't we decided to donate this show, donate our time back because of the important work you're doing with that zero to five demographic.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: And you know what Jeff said what he said that you know it's I I feel like I'm in that, and you know, David, we're we're both old guys.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I haven't been a zero to five since Jonathan Winters was a young man, and you know it's it's uh I I feel like I'm right back there in Mrs in Mrs.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Riley's kindergarten, and it's just I I it's just wonderful.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: It is so beautiful that joy that you can bring to really everyone, not just the zero to fives.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Well, you succeed a hundred percent.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: This is this is great.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: You are the first comedian, I believe, that we've had on our show.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Is that right, Steve?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: And this has been a great experience so far.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: He is certainly the first that I would consider a a stand-up comedian.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Do you consider yourself a stand-up comedian, for the David?
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Would that would that be is that a fair description?
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I take it kind of like uh should I, but yeah, I consider myself a stand-up comedian.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Well, sorry, it's interesting, no offense intended.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, David, I did uh uh a little research on you, you know, when we were looking to uh when you first uh reached out to us, and there were a number of nicknames that you had that were sort of floating around the internet.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Kitty comic, class clown, grade one comic, or was it first grade comic?
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Uh but I've I think I've seen it both ways.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: How did you get those names?
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Did that just come naturally?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Did how did that happen?
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Just people, you know, pick up on little jokes here and there and and they kind of like the little and they it sticks as a uh a bolo, as you would say in Spanish, a nickname.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Well, and that and you know, that grade one comic I that really does apply both ways because he tells jokes to first graders at their parties.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: That's right, but he's also a grade one comic.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, one being one being heights.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's not like us like 10 is no, no, no.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: It's not like a you know, yeah, yeah, you know, right, right.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, guys, maybe uh we have another tape.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: We sent we sent a lot of spies out.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: You know, in fact, we sent about 15 or 20 spies out, but some of them had the wrong, some of them had the wrong address, and some of them the tape thing didn't work, and uh just you know, it's so I mean I I think I paid a couple of them off.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: And and you paid a couple of them off, yes.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: A couple of them said, uh oh, couldn't find them, but you know, they suddenly had you know new stuff.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: But uh you know, and recording is so easy.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, I recorded a session with my own psychologist and then played it on the air, and well, she she didn't like that one little bit.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Let me let me tell you, that was a big problem, but but it's so easy.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: You can just record, but but but I digress.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: We have another recording from a Sean Johnson birthday party.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Sean Johnson, he was five.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, you remember him?
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: That was a fun yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: This was uh kind of a kind of a boisterous crowd, it sounds like he had uh they real bratty kid, real bratty kid.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: I think were they was was Sean doing were they doing the tequila shots already?
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, this sounds like they're running here.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: They had some flaming, they had some flaming shots going around.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it was tequila or rum, but it was a wild crowd, wild kids.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: A lot of gummy uh jello shots.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Wild kids.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Hey, I like those.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: The the orange or the lime, I those are good.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: I like those.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Those are those are tasty.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: You can get carried away with those easy, but I I don't I don't know a clear alcohol that doesn't taste good with jello.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: There's there's nothing.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know clear alcohol that doesn't taste good.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: This doesn't taste good with anything, right?
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: Let's join the festivities at little um Sean Johnson's house.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: Let's just see so many, because I got like say we sent like 15 or 20, and a lot of them came back with tapes.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: But this is okay, here we go.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: Now we're gonna have Sean Johnson's birthday here.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm the youngest of eight, so I wasn't really born.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I kind of just fell out.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Yeah, it's like somebody just opened the car door and just said, hey, tuck and roll, man.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm also from a big Mexican family.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know of any other Mexicans in the audience, but uh Woo! Hell yeah! Uh but uh one thing about being from a big Mexican family, you know, uh religion's a part of like everyday life, you know.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: You could say with sports down my throat as a kid.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Or at least that's what Father Patrick likes to call it.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Why all the bulk of the boys look so scary, you know?
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I had one convict in particular I hung out with a lot, his name was uh.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I don't think that was his real name, but he just uh But he did everything your normal Mexican uncle would do, you know, he'd uh bring beer to the baptism.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Uh he'd play the Sniffin' the Keys game with all the other uncles in the background.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: You showed up at that baptism with a little fold out key the life of the party, you know?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: After you get a couple millettes in them, you'd start saying shit like, don't worry about what they look like, Nico.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: It's all pink on the inside.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Put it up to the priest to bless your back and come to do it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: But he's a good guy to think you haven't done little best.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: So, what I really liked about that clip was how you related to them referring back to when you were seven years old.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I thought that was so perfect.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Impart some of the advice I got when I was when I was their age, you know, passing it on.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: And isn't isn't that really what it's all about?
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: We're imparting a culture that we knew to uh the younger generation, and that's just that's exactly how you do it.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: You say, hey, when I was your age, here's how we here's how we learned.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: We learned from our uncle, who had a couple modellos and told us, you know, it's all pink.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh, you know, and and that's important information.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: They'll want to know that later.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: They may not know that now, but they'll want to know that later.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they'll be older, they'll look back, and they'll think of that joke, and they'll be like, All right, maybe I shouldn't be so picky, you know.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's very wide, you know, um advice.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: And maybe there's room for everyone, there's room for all.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: And that's it, you know, it it it's really all about the brotherhood, it's all about the family, it's all about the understanding, it's all about the reaching out, and oh, what just what joy he's bringing to these kids?
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: You you should get like the uh Nobel Peace Prize.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Is that the oh I don't know?
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: You should get some sort of an award for what you do.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I do have a quick question though, because when I was looking up Sean Johnson's background, it turns out his father's name is Patrick.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: And you mentioned about Father Patrick.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Did that did that create any confusion or were you doing that on purpose?
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Did you do a little research on that?
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: And that must have been the guy that was groaning right there, you know?
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: I always, you know, um, before the the birthday party, I try to do a little vetting.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Uh I ask the other kids, you know, um, what are some things you don't like about Kelsey?
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Or um, you know, what is what are some things that she does?
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Does she smell sometimes?
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Um, are her parents still together?
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Just material I can work off of.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Important to know.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Important.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: And I like to I like to feel uh like they're included in the set.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So uh you know, just little digs here and there, you know, keep it light and fun.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Well, and that and that that makes it so much so much more relevant.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Because it's you're not just talking about A kid, you're talking about them, talking about their situation.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: You're talking about them.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: That's perfect.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's amazing.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I uh uh Steve, I think you you're old enough to remember this, but um I'm old enough to remember everything.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, we you also know the future, so you know the thing about post a picture of you at 23 because it's 2023.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: I can't do that because cameras were only invent, weren't invented until I was 27.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: So it's just so you know, it's all right, a couple couple more years.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: All right, but I digress.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Go ahead, go ahead, Jeff.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: That's okay there.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Um, but David, it reminded me of a comedy team that I saw when I was in college.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, the name of the comedy team was uh Proctor and Bergman.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: And they when they performed, they started off when we were in college with nothing but information and jokes about the college that we were at.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: And I remember when we were done, we looked at it and said, Oh my god, they spent time, they had they made up jokes just for us.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And I feel like this uh Father Patrick, the the the research that you did on Kelsey, and I feel like it was the same vein of that, you know, where it's just so impressive as opposed to generic comedians who give the same uh routine to whoever the crowd is.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: You really went the extra mile.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: It was a little awkward because his dad was actually a priest, also.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Um I didn't vet too well into it, but it it was a little awkward there for a minute.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: But it every every show has its speed bumps.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, why and I would imagine, you know, if your dad's a priest, things are gonna be a little awkward anyway, right?
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's gonna create a couple issues, right?
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So any so any future plans for you, David?
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Uh like uh I was wondering uh, are you are you going to always be focusing on the kitty crowd, or does it look like uh in the future you'll expand to other niches of types of people or situations?
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: What are your plans?
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, my plans is uh to move forward out of out of the zero to five uh and and more into the adult.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: I'll have to change my material uh because I feel like a lot of the adults won't relate to to a lot of the kids' stuff.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: So I'll have to revamp a lot of my jokes, make a lot whole new set list, but it should be a fun challenge.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Uh and yeah, yeah, the adult market is is my next my next step.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Ah, very good, very good.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: The nightclubs and the and the comedy clubs and the bars, you know, and that and that would be great, but but I agree on the material because you know, I it's it's probably been decades since most of them had anything to do with breast milk.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: So yeah, you're you're probably gonna have to it kind of relate to them, maybe you know, more modello, less breast milk, you know.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: That more modell, yeah, exactly.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, that would probably work, yeah.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, orthogonal.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Or you go, yeah, or you go much older because you know, when you get really old, then you kind of revert back to when you were yeah, the breast milk tastes good again.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, circle.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: You know, yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: I save all my diaper material for that.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yes, yeah, exactly.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, because it translates well.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I I would imagine with that zero to five, the diaper they don't want to hear the diper the diaper jokes cut a little too close because that's they're trying to get ahead and they think that's for close to home, yeah.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: Some of them get too much.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: So you gotta go for the the bigger, the the later or later diapers.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: That's comedic sense.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: That just that just makes a lot of sense, yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: So you don't is there is there any place we can see you now, David?
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: If uh uh you're uh you're from Oregon, is that correct?
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I uh I live in Salem, I do a lot of comedy in Salem.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: Uh I perform at the Infinity Room and uh I co-host uh open mic at uh F stop.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: So just all over Salem and Washington.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Do you do shows on the road at all?
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I'm I'm making it down south here in the in the summer months.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm starting to travel a lot more south Grants Pass and Medford and Ben.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Just trying to trying to get out there.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Well, Lord knows there's an endless amount of children out there that need that have birthdays and all across the country and the world.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Everybody wants to laugh.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: So absolutely.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, you could and you probably advertise at like Chunky Cheese and grade schools and things like that.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I gotta I gotta connect with Henny the hen.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, so she slips my little marketing slips in there.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Henny's cool, you know.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: I had a couple drinks with Henny the other day, in fact.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she's a cool gal.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's cool, yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, I like it.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Is she is she a chunky cheese person or well?
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: I don't ask about her private life, Jeff.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't know.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: I think I've heard of her though.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Is Henny the hen youngman?
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Is that uh is that related in some ways or I didn't want to give out her last name on the oh sorry, yeah.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we could probably bleep that out.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, we'll we'll we'll edit that out.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll oh no no problem.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Because you know, we we might get sued by the Y O U N G M A N estate, you know.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: Don't want to do that now, do we?
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no, no.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but she's a fun hen, she's a fun hen.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: We're kind of more Midwestern, but if you ever make it toward the to the Midwest, let us know because we would we'd like to bring, yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: I know, I know I I don't have grandkids yet, but maybe not too long.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Jeff has a couple of grandkids.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Uh gosh, we bring our kids to your show because I think they would just love it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know I'm my kids are in their 20s, kids are probably by your age, and I think they I think they would love it too, actually.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: But uh it'd bring the little ones too.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: I I just that's it, that just sounds so exciting.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Uh make it a whole family event.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: That's uh that's that's the great thing about it.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Because it is, and that's exactly right, David.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: It's about the family, it's about the togetherness, it's about growing those bonds over jokes that just you you you can't fake that.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: That's just that's real.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: That's just real.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: You know, David, I think Steve, we might have our the the official comedian of the Steve and Jeff show.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're you're the first, can't imagine finding anyone better.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: So maybe we can kind of stay in touch with you as your career blossoms and you go into different areas.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: We'd love to love to catch up with you in the future and just check in and see how you're doing.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: That sounds great, yeah.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, we're about to get booted out of uh eccentric Lady Land Studios here, but David, I can't thank you enough for coming all the way here, all the way to these studios, all the way from Oregon.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, you know, now we had a guy that came all the way from uh Australia, so you know it's not the farthest trip, but that's still pretty far.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Not the biggest splex, but yeah, but a very big splash nonetheless, yes, yes.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Hey, we just appreciate you coming in and thank you so much.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: And and boy, good luck with the comedy and with the kids, and and you know, as as you go into the you know, the more mature, shall we say, the more mature audiences, or the very mature, very a very challenging experience, but but um I'm sure I'll have better, more adult stuff.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it's really I mean, it's nice that you really are able to kind of tone it down for the kids that way, because you know you don't want them hearing improper things when they're kids, you know.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, you sure don't want them to be seemed to really appreciate it, yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, listen, I know my my mom would love this, wouldn't she, Jeff?
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: My mom had this, she'd love it.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: She would.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: I and and my dad, who is you know in his uh 90s, um he he would like the breast milk milk stuff.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: That's there's something about that that's he's very attracted to.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: So um he would like that kind of humor.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: So, David, in some ways, you know, maybe you shouldn't change too much and keep some of that stuff in because it's universal.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: Comedy, things that are funny are funny, period.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Not just right to five-year-olds, but to 95-year-olds.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: Well, and and when you get really old, it's like we were saying, that it like it starts to taste better, you know, you think more about it.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: So it's so that kind of makes sense.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: I you know, and you're well, your dad probably never really strayed too far from it.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Let's yeah, I mean, let's be honest.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Come on, no, I don't think so.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Probably always like in prison, yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: You know, it was hard to get in prison.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: That's another subject.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: You learn to appreciate it, yeah.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, you do.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: You do can't wait.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: You're released from prison.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Your first drink, you know.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: You what do you want for your first drink?
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Not a beer, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Something that goes good with a brownie, yeah.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, now you're talking.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Boy, I may have to go have dessert here while we're uh after we're done.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Making me hungry.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: But uh boy, Jeff, David, thanks again, and Jeff, I will see you next time with a new guest.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And uh David, thank you so much.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
