- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day. To record a podcast.
- 0:15To teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some. Joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Good morning, my friends.
- 0:30We are on the porch. It is still raining.
- 0:33It'll eventually stop raining. It's lovely way to start the
- 0:38day. Anyway, timing is everything.
- 0:43We often hear that we were like, oh, you know, timing's
- 0:46everything. I'm not sure when I should jump
- 0:48in. And we pause and we allow.
- 0:50We have so many conversations about time as human beings and
- 0:54it is my observation with myself.
- 0:58I'm not going to speak for everybody right now.
- 1:00I'm going to speak for myself, but for me only if I'm not
- 1:05coaching and I'm just in Kim head, which is exactly where I
- 1:07am right now. I will say I have a tendency to
- 1:12want to jump in and try to both feet in the paddle all at once
- 1:19and say let's see what happens. And that does work a lot of the
- 1:24times. I'm not going to lie, it does
- 1:25work a fair number of times, but there are times when it doesn't
- 1:31work and my timing is off. And the farm has really taught
- 1:35me about timing and I as much as I want to grow certain things,
- 1:41they're just not always going to grow year round.
- 1:44And as much as I want to be able to do certain things, it's just
- 1:47not going to work year round. So we have this constant battle
- 1:52inside of myself where I argue with myself about what is the
- 1:57right time to start projects and do certain things.
- 2:00So I've been out here doing this now on this particular farm,
- 2:05like my whole life I've been, you know, growing things.
- 2:08And when I lived in Rhode Island, I didn't have a big
- 2:12place to do it. But when I was in Massachusetts
- 2:14and I was a child, there was a lot of time that I was able to
- 2:17grow things throughout the summer with my dad, his
- 2:21brothers, all of that. I mean, they were just, it was,
- 2:24it was part of my life. But I did what they were doing.
- 2:26I just mimicked what they were doing because I was younger.
- 2:29And now I'm here and I've been doing this about five years now,
- 2:35and I have recognized that I must work with the rhythm that
- 2:39is handed to me. And Mother Nature does not like
- 2:42to bend. So therefore I must work with
- 2:45her. For instance, I cannot grow
- 2:48flowers in October that are the flowers that I love.
- 2:52Like zinnias are still blooming, but they had been blooming all
- 2:56all summer long and they are dying off.
- 2:58But there are some that are still blooming and they'll
- 3:01continue to go. But I cannot plant new ones
- 3:03right now. I can't wish that into fruition
- 3:06unless I have a greenhouse now. I can force it if I have a
- 3:09greenhouse. If I made the decision to say I
- 3:11want to put up a big, heated, beautiful greenhouse, which I
- 3:14would love to do, just in the plans of when that will happen.
- 3:18It's not a question of if it'll happen.
- 3:19It's a question of when it will happen.
- 3:21But it's a timing. Again, everything is about
- 3:25timing and that drives me personally crazy because I want
- 3:28everything now. I don't have patience for things
- 3:32to do with myself. Very different with my clients,
- 3:35very different when I have my earphones in and I am coaching
- 3:38people. But when it comes to me, I have
- 3:40to practice this and timing is everything.
- 3:43So this time of the year is always difficult because I have
- 3:49nothing to tend. That's growing.
- 3:51And I keep thinking to myself, well, I should, I should have
- 3:54something. And I talk myself into the state
- 3:56of like, I've got to do this. I've got to do this.
- 3:59So I have morphed that now into, well, what's the projects that
- 4:04we're going to work on for spring and let's get a head
- 4:06start, which my certainty girl loves being early and having a
- 4:09head start. So I'm starting my planning for
- 4:13what are we going to work on now?
- 4:14What are the things that we're going to put into play at?
- 4:18What gardens are we expanding? What gardens are we growing
- 4:21like? I spent a whole bunch of time
- 4:24putting that energy that had to go somewhere, and that's what
- 4:27this is about, because you've got to put that energy
- 4:29somewhere. If you don't, it will keep
- 4:31looping you back to what it wants to do and force you to do
- 4:34something prematurely that you may not be ready for.
- 4:38So I, OK, I want to work on a really extensive herb garden.
- 4:44Like not just a few herbs. I want an extensive herb garden.
- 4:47I want to be able to do something that is extraordinary
- 4:51with all different types of herbs.
- 4:53So I've got this, you know, wild idea, and now I can sit and plot
- 4:58it out. So I spent all this time going
- 5:01back to the original herb gardens of the 1700s, looking at
- 5:06what they planted, you know, what it did, what were the
- 5:10mythical things that these herbs did?
- 5:12What were the practical things that these herbs did?
- 5:15And it was thrilling over the weekend to actually sit and do
- 5:20this research and say, wow, I can do this or I can do this and
- 5:24I can do this. And there were even these little
- 5:26packets that one of the seed companies that I use were
- 5:29selling that said the Witch's Garden.
- 5:31And I was like, oh, what is that?
- 5:33And I open it and it's, you know, very common herbs that
- 5:38we've all heard heard of and you probably used, but it was
- 5:42packaged in a way that was like interesting how they could put
- 5:46that together and say, OK, these are things that were thought of
- 5:50by witches, but when you do the research, it's really true.
- 5:53They were Now we use them as common things.
- 5:56It's very intriguing. So again, timing is everything
- 6:00and putting that energy into something that can work.
- 6:04Sure. But the on that actually is
- 6:06going to be out, but I have to order all the seeds now or I
- 6:09miss out. So the point of today's
- 6:12conversation is to talk about timing and really study timing
- 6:16for yourself and not saying is it the right or wrong time, but
- 6:20giving the energy to the process of the planning in the right
- 6:24phase and saying, yeah, there's always, there's always a right
- 6:28time to work on your projects to a certain level.
- 6:31And you just have to decide where that energy is going to go
- 6:34at that right point in time. Like, I can't put it into
- 6:37planting, but I can put it into planning.
- 6:40Nice twist on words there. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:44you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:46Bye.
