- 1:34So autism in girls is no exception to the rule.
- 1:38Girls are autistic. It's just as well as boys are
- 1:40autistic. So how do you communicate better
- 1:42and how do you create better communication?
- 1:44I'm covering that right now in this video.
- 1:46Don't go anywhere guys. Welcome back to the ASP world.
- 1:48My name is Dan. I have autism and ADHD and I'm
- 1:50making weekly videos all about this stuff because I believe.
- 1:53To my. Purpose in life to help autistic
- 1:55individuals grow and flourish into amazing individuals and
- 1:58really like just set fire to that like ambition of them to be
- 2:01the best they can do really get their potential out and to look
- 2:04for the better. So if you want to come along
- 2:06with me for this journey, this mission, this awesome movement
- 2:08we have going on right now, remember to hit the subscribe
- 2:11button by clicking the notification bell down below.
- 2:13That will ensure it's how I upload video and I upload 4
- 2:16videos every day on every social media platform.
- 2:17So yeah, check me out on anything, even threads and weird
- 2:21things like 0 guys, what's going on?
- 2:23Communication is the core for autism instruction condition.
- 2:26There's there's two things that I think are most important with
- 2:29autism that are kind of the most debilitating. 1 is anxiety,
- 2:33which I have covered in other videos.
- 2:34And if you haven't, go check out my other videos.
- 2:36There's loads of anxiety. But the other is communication.
- 2:38How do you communicate better with autistic individuals or how
- 2:41do you help girls in the all sense functional communicate
- 2:43better? Well, girls are quite an
- 2:45interesting example here and talk about females.
- 2:48Now males on the open spectrum are less susceptible to masking,
- 2:53which is basically like putting on a front, a kind of, well,
- 2:57putting on a mask or an act if you will, to overcome a certain
- 2:59social situation or a situation of communication that is
- 3:02uncomfortable. So boys in the open spectrum
- 3:05will be more susceptible to just melt down on that situation or
- 3:08completely shut off from it, whereas girls will have more
- 3:12tendencies to mask or to pretend to be comfortable in a situation
- 3:16when in actual fact they're dying inside and they just want
- 3:18to go home. And yeah, it's just not a
- 3:22comfortable situation for to be in because what happens is they
- 3:25go home and after masking and then have a complete meltdown at
- 3:28home and then it falls their entire time.
- 3:31Now before I go any further guys, if you want to download my
- 3:33life hacks PDF book for autism, you can do at autismhacks.net
- 3:37right now. It's completely free.
- 3:38So there you go. Like if you.
- 3:40The link is down below if you want to check it out.
- 3:42So how do you communicate better?
- 3:43How do you teach people to communicate better, especially
- 3:45girls in the autism spectrum? The first thing is validation
- 3:48and acceptance. You have to teach that they
- 3:50should accept themselves of who they are.
- 3:51If they're not comfortable in the situation, then then that's
- 3:54okay. Validate their feelings.
- 3:55Tell them that like, hey, it's okay to feel like that.
- 3:58It's okay to struggle with communication and that is fine.
- 4:01That's who you are. So once they validate their
- 4:03feelings, once their feelings are heard and they know that
- 4:06what they're doing is nothing wrong, then you can implement
- 4:09things like confidence. How do you build confidence in
- 4:11someone who's feeling terrible at communicating where you say
- 4:15to them, what medium do you feel best at?
- 4:17Maybe they want to send emoji text messages.
- 4:19Maybe they want to send a voice note.
- 4:20Maybe they want to send emails. Maybe they're going to film a
- 4:23video and send you the video. Maybe they even want a Zoom
- 4:25call. When you find the format in
- 4:27which they best relate information, encourage and get
- 4:31them to use that. Or when they are using that,
- 4:34they will feel so much more in control of their life.
- 4:36And when you have control, you have confidence.
- 4:38When you have confidence, you have validation, and when you
- 4:40have validation, you being like the sun, you are able to fully
- 4:43be who you want to be. Nobody's holding you back.
- 4:45This is the best way to increase confidence and communication
- 4:48between girls and autism. This will stop a lot of masking
- 4:51going on when you're trying to communicate because obviously
- 4:53when you're masking, you're not actively communicating in the
- 4:56proper manner that you want to relay information.
- 4:59And at the same time, it's going to build have so much more
- 5:02confidence in the person and make them just a better
- 5:04communicator all round. Now guys, if you enjoyed this
