- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Sports Talk
- 0:03Speaker 1: Jay on with us. Tennessee off this week. We'll talk
- 0:06Speaker 1: a little bit about that game on Saturday that just
- 0:08Speaker 1: happened and then what else is going on around the
- 0:11Speaker 1: country and for the rest of the year for the volunteers.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:15Speaker 1: All new users there play $ 5, get $ 150 in lineups
- 0:18Speaker 1: instantly if you use code HMA and win. Jay, still
- 0:22Speaker 1: reeling from that loss a little bit?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Tennessee had their shot, man.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I ain't happy.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Ha ha ha.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I can tell you that damn much.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I am not happy.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I'm not mad at South Carolina, but I'm mad at
- 0:34Speaker 3: them because they won. I think more than anything. I'm
- 0:37Speaker 3: mad at the rest for calling back three touchdowns. I'm
- 0:40Speaker 3: mad at everything that could go wrong, did go wrong
- 0:43Speaker 3: in the last three minutes where we're sitting there with
- 0:45Speaker 3: a touchdown lead, the ball in our hand, fourth and one.
- 0:47Speaker 3: We've gotten every fourth and one up to that point.
- 0:50Speaker 3: We push their line back and our quarterback turns the
- 0:52Speaker 3: wrong direction. He's a red shirt freshman. He's going to
- 0:55Speaker 3: make mistakes, unfortunately, in situations like that from time to time.
- 0:59Speaker 3: He had two touchdowns called back that were the prettiest
- 1:01Speaker 3: passes you've ever seen in your life. 30 and 40-yard
- 1:04Speaker 3: just darts. And they just, oh, that guy kind of
- 1:08Speaker 3: held a tiny bit. And, you know, there's all kinds
- 1:11Speaker 3: of talk about that damn head ref, that Cole. But
- 1:15Speaker 3: it is what it is. We've got to win four
- 1:17Speaker 3: in a row now. That's just the way it is.
- 1:18Speaker 3: There's no way 9-3 is getting into the playoff. No
- 1:21Speaker 3: way in hell.
- 1:22Speaker 2: No, I don't think so.
- 1:23Speaker 1: You've got to win out, which they've got winnable games,
- 1:26Speaker 1: but also they're going to be tough. Kentucky's going to
- 1:28Speaker 1: be a tough game. Certainly the game against LSU is
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to be very tough. I think you beat Vandy, right?
- 1:36Speaker 1: And then you play who's the fourth most.
- 1:39Speaker 3: A & M, which would be fine at home, but
- 1:41Speaker 3: at College Station.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Go on the road.
- 1:44Speaker 3: That's a hard place to win, and they have a
- 1:47Speaker 3: huge roster. It's just they're having trouble at the quarterback position.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And they showed some life against Bama. For three quarters,
- 1:53Speaker 2: they were right.
- 1:53Speaker 3: They should have beat them.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah. If they play at all in the fourth quarter,
- 1:56Speaker 2: then they win that game.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So A & M can't be taken too lightly right now.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'll tell you, after getting blown out a few times,
- 2:03Speaker 1: they showed a little life, and I was impressed with
- 2:05Speaker 1: the way they played. What sucked for Tennessee against South
- 2:09Speaker 1: Carolina is it almost felt like, you know, like you
- 2:12Speaker 1: lost it twice. Like you go down 14, nothing. And
- 2:15Speaker 1: you're thinking, boy, are we going to get off the bus?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Did we get off the bus? And you fight all
- 2:18Speaker 1: the way back and really control the middle part of
- 2:20Speaker 1: this game. And then you kind of lose it again
- 2:23Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. And I mean, sellers made a
- 2:25Speaker 1: great play. Dillard and Stewart made a great play. Like
- 2:28Speaker 1: sometimes great players make great plays, but just to be
- 2:32Speaker 1: that close to, to have that big of a chance to,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know, I mean, Vegas made them a three point
- 2:37Speaker 1: favorite for a reason.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And they went by three, like Vegas knows what they're doing.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I get it.
- 2:41Speaker 1: But man, just to be that close certainly was frustrating.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm interested to see, and I think the bye week
- 2:46Speaker 1: does come at a good time. I'm interested to see
- 2:48Speaker 1: how Tennessee responds to it because that, that to me,
- 2:52Speaker 1: like you, you had a little house money by beating Bama.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You spent that house money by losing to South Carolina.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Like you needed to win that one. And then you
- 3:00Speaker 1: just got to go three and one down the stretch.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So now to make the playoff, you've, you've got to,
- 3:06Speaker 1: you've got to win out. But I will say like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: Tennessee's been better than I.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Expected this year.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I mean, if you told all things considered, and I
- 3:16Speaker 1: know that Tennessee fans don't want to play the moral
- 3:18Speaker 1: victory game, but if you had told me before the season, Hey,
- 3:21Speaker 1: freshman quarterback, you know, back in, in the spring, even
- 3:25Speaker 1: freshman quarterback, we're not getting anybody out of the portal.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Joey's not going to get cleared. You got a defense
- 3:29Speaker 1: that was worse than the sec, you know, tough schedule.
- 3:34Speaker 1: We'll see what this year is. We even talked about it, man.
- 3:36Speaker 1: 2027 would be the year. They really make a run.
- 3:39Speaker 1: The defense has been so good this year. The quarterback
- 3:41Speaker 1: play has been up and down. Bishop's done his thing.
- 3:43Speaker 1: The weapons are good. The line's good. I think I've
- 3:46Speaker 1: still been impressed with Tennessee, no matter what happens the
- 3:48Speaker 1: rest of the way.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, this is– if we'd have got Joey, we're 8-0
- 3:53Speaker 3: right now. We've lost two games by three points, and
- 3:56Speaker 3: we've got the last– we're last place in passing in
- 3:59Speaker 3: the SEC last year we were first. Yeah. We scored
- 4:02Speaker 3: a lot more points last year. We just– you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: we had an experienced quarterback. We didn't get one in
- 4:06Speaker 3: the portal. That decision was made. Maybe that had something
- 4:09Speaker 3: to do with Joey possibly being able to come back.
- 4:12Speaker 3: I'm sure it did. And you went in with two
- 4:14Speaker 3: guys with no experience at all, zero experience, which is just,
- 4:18Speaker 3: that's a mistake. I don't care how you slice it up.
- 4:21Speaker 3: We didn't know our defense was going to be this great.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And it's really held us up. I think if we'd
- 4:26Speaker 3: had a bad defense, we'd be in huge trouble right
- 4:29Speaker 3: now because we didn't have, you know, we didn't have
- 4:32Speaker 3: the number one offense in the SEC to carry us
- 4:34Speaker 3: like we did last year. I mean, we went eight
- 4:36Speaker 3: and four with– I mean, number one offense in the conference,
- 4:39Speaker 3: and we go eight and four. That's how bad our
- 4:41Speaker 3: defense was. And now it's the exact opposite. And I
- 4:45Speaker 3: tell you, if we just had gone– Sam Leavitt was
- 4:48Speaker 3: in the Knoxville area. He was in Heupel's office.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Signing.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And as soon as I'd have heard Lane Kiffin was
- 4:57Speaker 3: coming up, he.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Wouldn't have left. I was not going to– Lock him
- 5:00Speaker 2: in a closet or something.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Just to spite Lane Kiffin. You know what I would
- 5:04Speaker 3: have done, TJ. Yeah. Five million, there you go. Anything
- 5:07Speaker 3: else you want? What else do you want, Sam?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Well, it would have changed the entire season. Like you said,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I don't know that they would have a loss. I
- 5:14Speaker 1: think they would have beaten Texas with him.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And I'm not even mad. Look, I think George McIntyre's
- 5:19Speaker 3: done fine. Yeah. For a redshirt freshman, he's played really well.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I've been better than I expected.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah, the problem in the Texas game was the quarterback.
- 5:30Speaker 1: The problem in the South Carolina game was just death
- 5:32Speaker 1: by a thousand cuts. Every time you thought that you
- 5:35Speaker 1: had a chance, the fourth down stop. The touchdowns to
- 5:39Speaker 1: go up two scores. Sellers makes an incredible play. You're
- 5:42Speaker 1: even driving on that last drive. And Stewart, man, it
- 5:44Speaker 1: was just all the little things.
- 5:46Speaker 3: That holding call on the running play was just a
- 5:49Speaker 3: prime example of having a huge play called back by
- 5:52Speaker 3: the refs. We would have been in field goal range immediately.
- 5:55Speaker 3: We would not have thrown the ball the next play.
- 5:57Speaker 3: None of that happens. That ref can kiss my ass.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Ha ha ha ha. What are you watching this weekend? Florida, Georgia?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Who do you like?
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'll get right back to the interview, but first I
- 6:12Speaker 1: want to give some love to our friends over at
- 6:13Speaker 1: Alumni Hall. I know you guys are crushing this already,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but they are very appreciative of, one, you watching our show. Two,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you're using the code to let them know that you
- 6:21Speaker 1: heard about them through us. Use that code, CFA15. It
- 6:25Speaker 1: gets you 15% off of your order online at alumnihall.com
- 6:29Speaker 1: or online in any of their locations. Doesn't have to
- 6:32Speaker 1: be this specific store here or there. It works everywhere.
- 6:36Speaker 1: CFA 15 doesn't sign you up for anything, not a subscription.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You're going to buy gear for your favorite college football
- 6:42Speaker 1: team anyway. Make it 15% less. CFA 15 at alumnihall.com
- 6:48Speaker 1: or in-store. We appreciate Alumni Hall for their support.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the Florida-Georgia game, I think, don't y'all have a
- 6:53Speaker 3: pretty good game this weekend?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Clemson.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I'm going to watch the Florida State-Clemson game for sure.
- 6:59Speaker 3: I know you guys aren't where you typically are, but
- 7:01Speaker 3: that's such two big names. I mean, that's two monster names.
- 7:05Speaker 3: So I'll watch that game just out of a little
- 7:08Speaker 3: bit morbid curiosity, just to be honest with you. I
- 7:11Speaker 3: want to see what happens with Norvell. I'm sorry. It's
- 7:15Speaker 3: just kind of the way that it is. And then
- 7:16Speaker 3: I'll definitely watch Florida against Georgia. I want to see
- 7:21Speaker 3: if it's Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde with Florida. You never
- 7:23Speaker 3: know what you're going to get. I know Georgia is
- 7:25Speaker 3: going to be steady and don't they, they play that
- 7:27Speaker 3: at a neutral site.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So, Yeah, in Atlanta this year.
- 7:30Speaker 3: That should be a good game.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, in Atlanta because of the renovations to Jacksonville. Who
- 7:36Speaker 1: do you– do you think Georgia wins?
- 7:40Speaker 2: I've got Georgia in that one.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Close, though. Yeah, I'm going to pick Georgia in every
- 7:43Speaker 3: game they play. I just think they're the most consistent,
- 7:47Speaker 3: best team in the country. I really do. I think
- 7:50Speaker 3: they're– now, especially with Ohio State losing their quarterback, saying
- 7:55Speaker 3: I'm putting Georgia at number one. I'm not putting UCLA–
- 7:59Speaker 3: who I think is a phony. They'll probably end up
- 8:02Speaker 3: being like Indiana from now on with me saying.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That, which is just shocking.
- 8:06Speaker 3: How can you just turn that team around so quickly?
- 8:08Speaker 3: Oregon has turned into a shambles, and I think their
- 8:11Speaker 3: quarterback– is their quarterback out due to that late hit
- 8:15Speaker 3: by the USC?
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's the concussion stuff, I think.
- 8:20Speaker 3: That's got to be so upsetting to Oregon folks. That's
- 8:24Speaker 3: got to be so upsetting.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It's terrible, man.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I hate that for that young– I hate it for
- 8:29Speaker 3: the kid that hit him late, even though he celebrated
- 8:32Speaker 3: afterwards because you don't want to be the guy that
- 8:34Speaker 3: does that.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I mean, Oregon's the most disappointing team in the country.
- 8:39Speaker 1: They fired their offensive coordinator. We were talking about coaches
- 8:41Speaker 1: in your video. They fired their OC. They're the most
- 8:44Speaker 1: disappointing team in the country to me. Yeah, they've got
- 8:47Speaker 1: to be distraught. They had national championship aspirations. Are you
- 8:53Speaker 1: buying Texas again after their win against Ole Miss?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Hell no. No, Arch Manning. See, I'm not in a
- 8:59Speaker 3: good mood right now. That's why the profane words just
- 9:04Speaker 3: keep slipping out.
- 9:05Speaker 2: No chain, no wristband.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I'm pissed off. Yeah, there's no chain. There's no damn
- 9:10Speaker 3: nothing right now. I'm mad at South Carolina. I'm not
- 9:13Speaker 3: mad at them for doing anything wrong. I'm just mad
- 9:15Speaker 3: at them because they're lucky. They're so dadgum lucky. But
- 9:21Speaker 3: I'm just pissed. No, I'm not buying it. Arch Manning's
- 9:23Speaker 3: not good enough. I like their team. They're solid. But
- 9:29Speaker 3: not buying it.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Are you buying Miami?
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. With Darian Mensah, with the roster they've got,
- 9:38Speaker 3: I think they have a legitimate chance of winning the natty.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I think what they did to Duke was a disaster
- 9:45Speaker 3: for the ACC. I think it was a disaster for
- 9:48Speaker 3: the NCAA to go in the last day of the portal,
- 9:52Speaker 3: go up, take the contract, rip it, throw it in
- 9:55Speaker 3: Duke's face, take some dirty money, throw that in their
- 9:58Speaker 3: face and say, Darian Mitchell is our coach now what
- 10:02Speaker 3: you gonna do about it what you gonna do about
- 10:04Speaker 3: it Duke.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I love uh I love snarky Jay all right Tennessee
- 10:09Speaker 1: four games left the game against Kentucky next week I
- 10:12Speaker 1: don't know that we thought this would be this big
- 10:14Speaker 1: of a game coming into the year but it's gonna
- 10:17Speaker 1: eliminate Tennessee if they lose from the playoffs and it's
- 10:20Speaker 1: going to make it really tough on Kentucky too. Does
- 10:24Speaker 1: Tennessee win that game at home?
- 10:26Speaker 3: I think that we win it. I think it's going
- 10:27Speaker 3: to be awesome to have Kentucky come in where there's stakes.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Normally there's no stakes when Kentucky comes in. They lose
- 10:34Speaker 3: the game. Nick Roush loses his mind, has a conniption fit.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I play it on clips.
- 10:42Speaker 2: You might get a chance.
- 10:43Speaker 3: It's a rinse and repeat. He might be able to
- 10:46Speaker 3: have a clip of me going nuts this time. On
- 10:50Speaker 3: Kentucky Sports Radio.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Next week at A & M. We give Billy Lucci
- 10:55Speaker 1: and those guys a hard time if they lose?
- 10:59Speaker 3: Texas A & M. Billy Sesspool, as Mike Elko calls it. Elko.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Elko, man. What are you doing, bud?
- 11:08Speaker 3: I loved it. I was just sitting here going, you
- 11:10Speaker 3: did not just call it Billy.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure Billy loved it too.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm sure Billy loved it.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I was like, dude, I turned on the camera. I
- 11:18Speaker 3: was ready to do a YouTube video.
- 11:21Speaker 2: You guys win.
- 11:23Speaker 3: That one? That one worries me as much as the
- 11:27Speaker 3: LSU game. Yeah. Because it's at College Station. They'll have 110,000
- 11:32Speaker 3: folks there. They'll have nothing to lose. We got to
- 11:35Speaker 3: jump on them and get them out of the way.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And I... Again, you're putting a freshman quarterback into a
- 11:41Speaker 3: very loud, inhospitable place. Fortunately for Tennessee, they're out of everything.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I mean, Texas A & M does not care now.
- 11:49Speaker 3: They've lost four games. The season's over at A &
- 11:53Speaker 3: M as far as the fans are concerned. Now, your
- 11:56Speaker 3: diehards will show up. They'll root for the team. They'll
- 11:59Speaker 3: do all that. And it'll be loud, but it's not
- 12:01Speaker 3: going to be chaos.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, not like it would have been had they had
- 12:04Speaker 1: a better season than what they have. I think the
- 12:06Speaker 1: placement of the LSU game is so interesting because before
- 12:10Speaker 1: they play Tennessee, they play Alabama and Texas. And so I,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I think that's a good thing for the volunteers. Not
- 12:21Speaker 1: that Kentucky and A & M are just easy wins,
- 12:24Speaker 1: but LSU could legitimately now.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Good or bad. I guess it could be bad.
- 12:30Speaker 1: They could be 0-2 the next two weeks. They could
- 12:34Speaker 1: certainly lose to Bama. I don't know that I.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Think they will. I think they played well against Auburn.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Maybe they're turning around. They lose to Bama, lose to Texas.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Then they've got to go to Neyland.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I think that's a tough spot. Or if they beat
- 12:46Speaker 1: both of them, are they riding a little too high?
- 12:48Speaker 1: Either way, I think they're in a good spot. But
- 12:50Speaker 1: their next loss could eliminate them.
- 12:51Speaker 3: It will eliminate them. If Lane Kiffin has three losses...
- 12:57Speaker 3: The college football playoff has already said they're taking into
- 13:00Speaker 3: consideration what's going on with the SEC, NCAA, the law.
- 13:04Speaker 3: They've already said they weren't happy. Remember when he was
- 13:07Speaker 3: going to bring on NFL players and they were like, oh,
- 13:10Speaker 3: wait a minute. So I don't think they like him.
- 13:12Speaker 3: If he's not in three, you know, there are politics
- 13:16Speaker 3: in that committee. And I think they would creak him.
- 13:20Speaker 3: The one team I think that can get in nine
- 13:21Speaker 3: and three is Texas because they have the Ohio State win.
- 13:25Speaker 3: which I think is a huge feather in their cap.
- 13:28Speaker 3: They beat the number one team in the country when
- 13:30Speaker 3: they were at full power. So I think that's the
- 13:34Speaker 3: one team that can get in 9-3.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Let me tell you who else I think is going
- 13:37Speaker 1: to hurt your heart. You're already in a bad mood.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Maybe I shouldn't do this, but I'm going to do
- 13:41Speaker 1: it anyway. I'll tell you who can get in 9-3.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Florida beats Georgia this week.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Oh, my God. It did. My heart's hurt.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I know.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I know. How can Florida?
- 13:51Speaker 3: Oh, my God. They were losing their mind just 10
- 13:54Speaker 3: days ago.
- 13:57Speaker 1: They're the most up and down fan base that exists.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Florida beats Georgia this week.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And then let's say they lose to Kentucky on the road.
- 14:04Speaker 2: It'd be a good loss. It's not a bad loss
- 14:06Speaker 2: at all.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Florida will have beaten three top ten teams, and they'll
- 14:10Speaker 1: have the head-to-head over Texas. And so I know Texas
- 14:14Speaker 1: beating Ohio State's a big deal, but Florida beating Georgia's
- 14:16Speaker 1: a big deal, too.
- 14:17Speaker 2: They're number two or three in the country right now.
- 14:19Speaker 2: So Florida.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Know, I agree with you right now.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Texas is the only nine and three team that can
- 14:24Speaker 1: make it in, but Florida beats Georgia and goes nine
- 14:27Speaker 1: and three.
- 14:28Speaker 2: They should nine and three. Florida should go over nine.
- 14:30Speaker 1: And three Texas because they beat them head to head
- 14:32Speaker 1: and they got three top 10 wins.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree with that. If you beat a
- 14:37Speaker 3: team head to head, you have, and you have the
- 14:39Speaker 3: same record. You have to be put. Well, that's what
- 14:41Speaker 3: they did last year with Miami and Notre Dame. Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 2: For sure. They had the head to head.
- 14:45Speaker 3: There's already a precedent set for that, and I totally
- 14:47Speaker 3: agree with it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Florida would have three top ten wins. Texas, Ole Miss,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and Georgia. Now, I think the Bulldogs win. So, hopefully
- 14:56Speaker 1: that doesn't happen, but we will see. Sports Talk, Jay.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Go check him out on YouTube. Jay, we always appreciate
