Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Big month for red meat June one point three to
- 0:04Speaker 1: seven billion worth of red meat exports. That's up fifty
- 0:06Speaker 1: percent on June last year, biggest June on record, but
- 0:09Speaker 1: the annuals up to Nick beebe Meat Industry Association CEO
- 0:13Speaker 1: with me this morning.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Getay Nick today? Right? How are you? Yeah? Good?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Thanks mate. So price is high but also volumes up.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, it's another really good result of the red
- 0:24Speaker 2: meat sector, something we're incredibly proud of.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And what about supply going forward because I've been looking
- 0:30Speaker 1: the Europe, the UK, in particular, the US, Australia, the
- 0:35Speaker 1: cattle numbers are coming down. That's a good thing for us.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Globally we're looking at a period of pretty tight
- 0:42Speaker 2: supply from many of our competing countries. But it's something
- 0:46Speaker 2: we have to keep our finger on the pulse on
- 0:48Speaker 2: all the time because even though the trend might be
- 0:52Speaker 2: for slightly constrained supplies, we will see some volatility the
- 0:57Speaker 2: global climate.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Is that What about the value, you know, cost of
- 1:03Speaker 1: living pressures in the markets we're selling to buyers consumers
- 1:07Speaker 1: going for lower value protein.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That's another thing that we're watching really closely. Ryan. Absolutely,
- 1:15Speaker 2: the prices have been really strong, but we know that
- 1:19Speaker 2: the cost of living pressures is something that impacts all
- 1:23Speaker 2: our consumers and customers around the world. But it's not
- 1:26Speaker 2: just cost of living pressures. There's a number of other
- 1:31Speaker 2: you'd say issues that we face and that exports face every.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Day, like what tariffs.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Could be tariffs, geopolitical uncertainty, wars, logistics, disruptions. There's a
- 1:47Speaker 2: number of things that the media exploring companies have to
- 1:51Speaker 2: deal with on a daily basis.
- 1:53Speaker 1: How hard is it? You know the government wants to
- 1:55Speaker 1: increase export or I think double it over the next
- 1:58Speaker 1: few years.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Is it easy.
- 2:00Speaker 1: To send more to countries we're already exporting too because
- 2:04Speaker 1: we have relationships, or try and crack new ones. I
- 2:06Speaker 1: suppose you're going to do a bit of both at
- 2:08Speaker 1: the same time, walking true gum.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got to do a bit of both. Definitely
- 2:13Speaker 2: easier to increase exports into countries that you hear those
- 2:19Speaker 2: relationships with. But New Zealand for a long number of
- 2:23Speaker 2: years has had a very diversified trade step strategy and
- 2:28Speaker 2: that's something that we need to maintain because that diversity
- 2:31Speaker 2: provides companies great options when some markets get titled or
- 2:36Speaker 2: demand ways.
