- 0:42Speaker 1: for runners who took on the Great North Run. We've
- 0:48Speaker 1: got a special report on the progress of youngsters at
- 0:51Speaker 1: the Folks and Cricket Club. And we are joined in
- 0:57Speaker 1: the studio by a netball umpire Angie Bates. So we
- 1:00Speaker 1: shall be chatting about the Folks, the netball league and
- 1:03Speaker 1: a lot more as well. So as you know, I
- 1:08Speaker 1: like to get the show on the road with a
- 1:10Speaker 1: cracking tune. And I was going through the playlist and
- 1:13Speaker 1: I thought, I haven't heard this one for ages, So
- 1:16Speaker 1: buckle up and strap yourself. In is the Jam and
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Town called Malice. There we go, a town called
- 1:44Speaker 1: Malice by the Jam. Do you remember the film? Come On?
- 1:49Speaker 1: What was it? You're dead right, Billy earlier, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: And I've been dancing around the studio kicking all the
- 1:56Speaker 1: chairs in. Oh, I've had a great time, all right,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I've got to settle down a bit now because today
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm in the studio. I'm joined by Angie Bates, who
- 2:03Speaker 1: is a netball umpire in the Folks To Netball League.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, Angie. How are you?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I'm very well, thank you, nice to be here.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Good thank you. Now we're going to talk about netball
- 2:11Speaker 1: and a lot more about the sport as well. But
- 2:14Speaker 1: first of all, tell us a bit about your sporty background.
- 2:16Speaker 1: For example, I mean, was netball your first love?
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was never very sporty at primary school. It was
- 2:22Speaker 2: something I would avoid if I could. But when I
- 2:24Speaker 2: got to secondary I did fall in love with netball
- 2:27Speaker 2: and I played throughout my secondary school career and then
- 2:30Speaker 2: afterwards I joined a local village team and we played
- 2:34Speaker 2: in the Ashford Netball League. I've continued on from there.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Okay, so where is whereabouts? Were you at this time?
- 2:39Speaker 2: I was living in wood Church netball team and they
- 2:42Speaker 2: are still going today. Broke break, sorry, but they've come
- 2:46Speaker 2: back together again and you're still playing.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So you moved down this way? And I mean did
- 2:50Speaker 1: you look for netball straight away or did you give
- 2:52Speaker 1: you a little break? No?
- 2:54Speaker 2: I carried straight on. Yes, yeah, it's in the blood
- 2:57Speaker 2: it I think, so I'm hiring is my past?
- 3:00Speaker 1: Great? Good? Well, before we go on to talk about
- 3:02Speaker 1: the folks in netball league, I mean, let's let's just
- 3:04Speaker 1: talk about the sport in general. I mean I've been
- 3:07Speaker 1: doing a little bit of research and it's kind of
- 3:09Speaker 1: a spin off from basketball, isn't it is? Yeah? From
- 3:13Speaker 1: what I discovered that they found this sport basketball, but
- 3:17Speaker 1: it was for the fellas and the ladies wanted some
- 3:20Speaker 1: so something, so it was like derived from there, is
- 3:24Speaker 1: that right?
- 3:24Speaker 2: That is right? Yes?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, And it took off in England certainly, and once
- 3:32Speaker 1: again doing research, it's the certain countries. It never is
- 3:35Speaker 1: never here. I mean, what do you know about I mean,
- 3:38Speaker 1: if you ever toured around umpiring.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I haven't. I've only done umpiring in the local area.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but I mean you must watch it or
- 3:46Speaker 1: look out for it on the teley.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Oh yes, I do watch the international games on the television.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And I mean do you find that it's become
- 3:54Speaker 1: more and more popular since you started?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I think it's becoming very popular. It's played in seventy
- 3:59Speaker 2: two worldwide.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Seventy two. But that does surprise me actually because I
- 4:03Speaker 1: didn't think it was as many as that. I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 1: one of the biggest ones that I was looking at
- 4:07Speaker 1: is Australia, isn't it. I mean, you can fit seventy
- 4:10Speaker 1: two countries in Australia, can't you.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You certainly could notice it.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yeah, And as it got to the level we know
- 4:18Speaker 1: it's not on the Olympic Games, we talk about that
- 4:19Speaker 1: in a minute, but as it got to the level
- 4:22Speaker 1: with seventy two countries, as it got to the level
- 4:25Speaker 1: of like a World Cup.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yes, they have got World Cup and their next one
- 4:28Speaker 2: is coming up in Sydney and Australia and that will
- 4:32Speaker 2: be held between August and September twenty twenty.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Seven, right, twenty so a couple of years, yeah, about
- 4:38Speaker 1: two years now. And do traditionally the Australians do well, Yes,
- 4:43Speaker 1: they do, do they? Yes? Yeah, they're like a top
- 4:46Speaker 1: of the tree.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Are they got Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica?
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, they're all good, pretty young countries. Yeah yeah. Right,
- 4:54Speaker 1: And so the league, the league sort of strategy in
- 4:58Speaker 1: England is it really big? Let's start locally, So you've
- 5:04Speaker 1: got a league in folks, then where else have you
- 5:06Speaker 1: got leagues? In Kent.
- 5:07Speaker 2: You've got Dover, Canterbury made Stone. That's the ones that
- 5:13Speaker 2: I know of.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there was.
- 5:15Speaker 2: One in Sittingbourn. I think that's possibly still it is.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I know you hold tournaments. There's
- 5:22Speaker 1: another thing we've got to talk about. But do you
- 5:24Speaker 1: ever get to play these teams in sittingboul and that
- 5:27Speaker 1: or is it just in tournaments they pop up?
- 5:29Speaker 2: A few years ago we actually pre COVID put out
- 5:32Speaker 2: an interleagues tournament, right, so we had teams entering from
- 5:36Speaker 2: different areas, which was great fun unless you play in
- 5:40Speaker 2: the areas. Now, I don't think there are many tournaments.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Just do specific league.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Okay, right, so we will be talking about the Folkston
- 5:49Speaker 1: League and now that's grown well basically you've got some
- 5:52Speaker 1: really good courts now, haven't you They've been there? Are
- 5:56Speaker 1: they holding up now? The courts are a couple of
- 5:58Speaker 1: years old.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, two months ago they were they were resurfaced completely. Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I do remember the project. We had Rachel in here,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Rachel Hayden, and she run me through the projects. And
- 6:09Speaker 1: I have been following the Network League for a number
- 6:10Speaker 1: of years actually, and so I do remember the old
- 6:13Speaker 1: courts and I do remember I went to a tournament. Well,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I don't know when it was. I think to be fair,
- 6:19Speaker 1: we had Danielle in about April time and there was
- 6:22Speaker 1: a tournament where the fellas were playing.
- 6:25Speaker 2: That Easter mixed tournament.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, was you involved with that?
- 6:30Speaker 2: I was unpiring. Yes, yes, it was brilliant. The lads
- 6:33Speaker 2: embraced the game, did they They listened when they did
- 6:36Speaker 2: something wrong and we were trying to explain it. I
- 6:38Speaker 2: took it all on board. We had three mails playing
- 6:41Speaker 2: per team, yes, yeah, and they were set in certain
- 6:45Speaker 2: positions so they would only play against each other. Yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: because they are slightly feistier than some of our life. Yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Probably a bit naive as well, I suppose to the
- 6:54Speaker 1: tactics and the rules. But yeah, no, I did go
- 6:58Speaker 1: up and watched. I've watched a few games, but it
- 7:00Speaker 1: is what I found. It's a fast moving game, isn't it.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And you've got you'll have to just clarify as this
- 7:08Speaker 1: for the non netball people out there, and we're right
- 7:11Speaker 1: and saying you've got two umpires, Yes, that's for per game,
- 7:15Speaker 1: but do you need it? You must need a scorer
- 7:17Speaker 1: as well, because it's bang bang. But even the players
- 7:19Speaker 1: don't know who's winning, do they No.
- 7:22Speaker 2: What should happen is you have two scorers per game.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Two scorers, yeah, and they will call out.
- 7:26Speaker 2: The score every time a goalie score. Oh okay, allocated
- 7:29Speaker 2: ends to call the scores out. Years ago, we didn't
- 7:32Speaker 2: have this. You as an umpire, you umpired, you scored,
- 7:35Speaker 2: you called the score out.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Oh around you.
- 7:37Speaker 2: So umpires nowadays love it.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but they have it quite easy. There's a lot
- 7:42Speaker 1: of pressure on them and you say, well it was
- 7:44Speaker 1: fifty one twenty two you yeah, I scored twenty three points,
- 7:47Speaker 1: so yeah, so good. It's great to see it's growing.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And what about the youth side of things? Do you
- 7:54Speaker 1: get many youngsters coming into the game.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yes, we do. We've got Danielle and Rachel along with
- 7:59Speaker 2: Emily run A youth training sessions Wednesdays and Thursday nights.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I believe they are. And from there we have had
- 8:06Speaker 2: three youth teams enter art.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Oh well yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 2: The first team were Scorpions. Yeah, they are amazing. They've
- 8:14Speaker 2: improved so much, going strong, and we've recently had Orcas
- 8:17Speaker 2: join us alongside Stingrays.
- 8:19Speaker 1: All right, okay, now I've seen I do read out
- 8:22Speaker 1: the names there's ice and other lovely names like that.
- 8:27Speaker 1: What else was we going to talk about? Right? So
- 8:30Speaker 1: it's growing, but it hasn't hit the heights of the
- 8:33Speaker 1: Olympic Games yet, has it?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Unfortunately not?
- 8:35Speaker 1: Do you know? You know, have you read up with
- 8:37Speaker 1: West of Why?
- 8:38Speaker 2: I did have a little look, and predominantly netball is
- 8:41Speaker 2: seen as a female only sport, whereas the Olympics has
- 8:46Speaker 2: games that are for both male and females.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Okay, right, right? That's not going to change, is it, really?
- 8:53Speaker 2: No, unless they change their rules.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's a bit I mean by today's what
- 8:58Speaker 1: do you call it, standards for equality? That's a little
- 9:02Speaker 1: bit a bit mean, isn't it.
- 9:03Speaker 2: It's very mean, and I think people would enjoy watching
- 9:05Speaker 2: a fast paced Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But in the Commonwealth Games that's that's fine, isn't it?
- 9:09Speaker 2: Next the common Health Back Games we have and the
- 9:11Speaker 2: next one is going to be held in Scotland, Scotland,
- 9:14Speaker 2: and that is next year between July and August.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Oh right, Oh there's something to look forward to. Don't
- 9:18Speaker 1: that be good? Yeah? Yeah, I mean do you think
- 9:22Speaker 1: probably difficult one to answer, but you think, like some
- 9:24Speaker 1: of your team might say, oh, come on, your fancy
- 9:26Speaker 1: a weekend in Scotland.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It's quite possible they do go up to watch the
- 9:30Speaker 2: super League games at the copper.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Box, right, ah, right, now, there's something I don't know
- 9:34Speaker 1: about super League game? What is that?
- 9:36Speaker 2: There's it's sorry sky Sports, it's on and I believe
- 9:40Speaker 2: it's different teams from areas are in a super League
- 9:44Speaker 2: division and it goes out live, right people to watch
- 9:48Speaker 2: the local one I believe is.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Copper Box, right, Okay, right, We're going to take a
- 9:53Speaker 1: little music break now, and because we've still got to
- 9:55Speaker 1: talk about the local stuff and what's happening down there.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So in the meantime, I've dragged this one because I
- 10:00Speaker 1: do love this the Dinah Ross. I love the old
- 10:02Speaker 1: stuff and I think you might enjoy this one. It's
- 10:05Speaker 1: called chain Reaction. Dina Us there and chain Reaction. When
- 10:31Speaker 1: was the last time you heard that one? They go
- 10:33Speaker 1: on ages ago. That's the beauty at this station. And
- 10:36Speaker 1: we've got such a library of tracks we can duck
- 10:39Speaker 1: and dive and to take you back in time. Okay,
- 10:43Speaker 1: So we are joined once again by Angie from the
- 10:47Speaker 1: Folks to netpal League, who is an umpire. So Angie,
- 10:51Speaker 1: where do we start with this one. You've been You've
- 10:54Speaker 1: been umpiring a long time, then have you?
- 10:56Speaker 2: I have over thirty years.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Thirty years? Who great, that's great, that's great. It's funny.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I don't know whether you'd expect when you started out umpiring,
- 11:07Speaker 1: whether you'd expect to like at times, fall out of
- 11:10Speaker 1: love with the game, or perhaps you'd never make thirty years.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I have had rest in between. I thought I was
- 11:16Speaker 2: doing too much umpiring in too many areas. Yes, it
- 11:19Speaker 2: was every night, you know, you're out and about. So
- 11:23Speaker 2: I had a break. But then I realized I missed it. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and I got back into it.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Okay, So umpiring, if you want to become an umpire,
- 11:32Speaker 1: let's say you've got a player that's coming to the
- 11:35Speaker 1: twilight of her career injuries and stuff for taking over,
- 11:40Speaker 1: they want to be an umpire, tell us a few
- 11:42Speaker 1: basics of how you get into umpiring locally anyway?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Okay, So locally you'd speak to me as the umpiring
- 11:49Speaker 2: secretary and I would support you along your journey. To qualify,
- 11:54Speaker 2: you have to go through Kent Netball, so you would
- 11:57Speaker 2: have to do for your first qualification, which is an IO,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and into officiating, you do two online courses. Then you
- 12:06Speaker 2: get in lots and lots of practice and then you
- 12:08Speaker 2: would take an assessment to get your first one. The
- 12:12Speaker 2: same applies for your Sea award, so you'd again more practice,
- 12:16Speaker 2: you'd be issued a mentor who would come along and
- 12:18Speaker 2: support you, and then you do an online course and
- 12:21Speaker 2: then you would go for your qualification. We run Sunday
- 12:25Speaker 2: training sessions at three Hills for anyone that wanted to
- 12:29Speaker 2: unpire could come along and have a go.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It's a friendly, fun session. No one takes it overly
- 12:34Speaker 2: seriously and there are people there who will support you
- 12:38Speaker 2: with your umpiring.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Okay, So on those Sunday mornings, do you have to
- 12:41Speaker 1: have a team of match going on too umpire or
- 12:43Speaker 1: is it all a bit of theory. And although you
- 12:46Speaker 1: do your online stuff it, do you do your practical
- 12:49Speaker 1: stuff for Sunday morning as well.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah? That's people just turn up, pay and play basically, right,
- 12:54Speaker 2: and then if they are a spare people, they get
- 12:56Speaker 2: a chance to come out an umpire and that gets
- 12:58Speaker 2: them into it. Whether or not you like it, I
- 13:00Speaker 2: think most people do fall in love with it, even
- 13:02Speaker 2: though they're a bit apprehensive to start. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 2: I mean as a league, we fund umpire training sessions.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So we have a lovely lady in Ashford who is
- 13:12Speaker 2: an a award umpire to East Chittenden and she comes
- 13:15Speaker 2: along and runs sessions for us to give people an
- 13:18Speaker 2: idea of what they need to do to get to
- 13:21Speaker 2: the level to pass there.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, this sounds and what's the uptake on that?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Do you get many?
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yes? We do. We've had four four sessions this season.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Oh great, that's good. Yeah. Yeah. It's good people stay
- 13:35Speaker 1: with the game, isn't it Because certainly, if you like,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I played a lot of local football and a little
- 13:41Speaker 1: bit of senior football, but there weren't many footballers that
- 13:44Speaker 1: went into referee in so it's nice to see a
- 13:46Speaker 1: sport that you know, you carry on and stay with it.
- 13:49Speaker 1: It's great. So you said you're the umpire and secretary
- 13:53Speaker 1: for what for a region or just for folks?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Just for folks?
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah right? Does do the other leagues in Dover
- 14:01Speaker 1: and Ashford do they have the same sort of structure
- 14:03Speaker 1: as Folkston?
- 14:04Speaker 2: They all have umpiring secretaries. We in Folkston have asked
- 14:10Speaker 2: all our teams to put someone forward to train as
- 14:13Speaker 2: an umpire. Then every season they are allocated games to
- 14:17Speaker 2: umpire if they can't umpire it. We have a WhatsApp
- 14:21Speaker 2: group and I have can't be more grateful to our
- 14:24Speaker 2: umpires that pick up games that people if they've got them. Yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 2: we've got a great core of umpires, so that's how
- 14:30Speaker 2: we do it. Other leagues don't insist that you have
- 14:33Speaker 2: an umpire and they provide people to umpire the games.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Right, And from your experience of chatting around, do you
- 14:40Speaker 1: find it sounds like you have got a good school
- 14:44Speaker 1: of umpires there. But do other leagues suffer with umpires
- 14:47Speaker 1: trying to get them or is it really? You know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: I think.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Because a lot of teams that sorry leagues, I know
- 14:53Speaker 2: they do insist that each team has a qualified umpire.
- 14:57Speaker 2: It just comes when you need cover and not every
- 15:00Speaker 2: everybody is available.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Okay, so if you're running a little sort of bare
- 15:02Speaker 1: minimum and that yeah, okay, right, and so let's just
- 15:06Speaker 1: recap that one. So just tell me about Sunday month.
- 15:10Speaker 1: What happens on a Sunday morning down a three heels.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Right, you can turn up between. It starts at ten
- 15:15Speaker 2: for an hour. You can come along to play if
- 15:17Speaker 2: you want to, and you just pay to cover the
- 15:20Speaker 2: cost of the court. There's no other charges. They usually
- 15:22Speaker 2: do a warm up, a bit of a drill and
- 15:24Speaker 2: then get into a game. Right If anyone wants to come,
- 15:27Speaker 2: just umpire, that's acceptable. You just come along, bring a whistle,
- 15:31Speaker 2: bring a band, and you're set to go.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Right okay. And I'll know one thing I like watching
- 15:39Speaker 1: in all sorts of sports is like discipline. Now in football,
- 15:44Speaker 1: discipline is awful. In rugby it's brilliant. And I know
- 15:49Speaker 1: it was only a tournament, but I did notice how
- 15:51Speaker 1: good the discipline was between the players and the umpires.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Am I barking up the right tree here or is it?
- 15:58Speaker 2: I think it was a good fun tournament. Everyone was
- 16:01Speaker 2: about to enjoy themselves. We didn't need to go down
- 16:05Speaker 2: game management with the tournament.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Everything was do you have yellow cars and that sort
- 16:08Speaker 1: of thing.
- 16:09Speaker 2: We don't have yellow cars. We have game management. Game management,
- 16:11Speaker 2: so if somebody is persistently obstructing a player, for example,
- 16:16Speaker 2: you will get their attention and just say to them, please,
- 16:19Speaker 2: can you watch your obstruction? If they then don't, you
- 16:23Speaker 2: will advance the penalty and that can be advanced up
- 16:26Speaker 2: to half of a third. So it's going in favor.
- 16:32Speaker 2: If they continue to do the obstruction, they'll be given
- 16:36Speaker 2: a warning and warn that they will be suspended. This
- 16:39Speaker 2: normally doesn't go any further. That's it. They're a bit like,
- 16:43Speaker 2: don't want to go off, but they would be suspended
- 16:45Speaker 2: for two minutes of play and their position is left vacant.
- 16:49Speaker 2: See if they come back on and continue, they're sent
- 16:52Speaker 2: off the whole for the rest of the game.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I can't see that happening much, does it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I've only witnessed it once many years.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, right, someone's had a bad day. And oh
- 17:04Speaker 1: that's interesting. Actually that's very good because I didn't know
- 17:08Speaker 1: the structure of whether there was a sin bin or
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know, off you go. And it's funny you should
- 17:13Speaker 1: say that because years ago I played a bit of
- 17:16Speaker 1: rugby and if you argue with the referee straight away
- 17:19Speaker 1: you lost ten yards. You know that they moved the
- 17:21Speaker 1: game up ten yards to your disadvantage. I don't see
- 17:25Speaker 1: that in modern rugby.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Now.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'll have to go keep them away out now. But
- 17:29Speaker 1: rugby is very disciplined, I must admit, right. So moving
- 17:33Speaker 1: on to the folks in Netble League. Since the refurbishment
- 17:38Speaker 1: of the courts, how has it really improved the game
- 17:42Speaker 1: and the number of teams.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, the courts are much much better. We haven't got
- 17:46Speaker 2: the more growing on it, which is great. We can
- 17:48Speaker 2: play in all weathers.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You don't have to cut the concrete.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Definitely not now. And we've got more teams coming to
- 17:55Speaker 2: join us, which is great.
- 17:56Speaker 1: How many teams in the folks in net League?
- 17:58Speaker 2: We have twelve at the moment, but we only have
- 18:01Speaker 2: two courts. Yes, so we are restricted, right.
- 18:04Speaker 1: But you do kind of pack it all in on
- 18:07Speaker 1: on till Wednesday night, don't you.
- 18:08Speaker 2: We do two sessions early in a late game, yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 2: to seven and eight o'clock. Yeah, so we managed to
- 18:15Speaker 2: get to.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And you managed to get all twelve twelve in do you?
- 18:19Speaker 2: Or eight game? Four games? Eighteen? Yeah?
- 18:22Speaker 1: Yeah right, So you don't get a game every week
- 18:26Speaker 1: then no, all right, because if you had a third
- 18:28Speaker 1: court you probably could yeah right, yeah, yeah. Well it's
- 18:32Speaker 1: not a bad thing. Is It's good for the games
- 18:33Speaker 1: because that people come along competitive and have a little rest.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And hopefully, as we were saying off here, hopefully when
- 18:40Speaker 1: the sports Center gets going again, there'll be another venue
- 18:44Speaker 1: up there that you could use.
- 18:45Speaker 2: We are currently looking for a second venue, which we're
- 18:47Speaker 2: hoping to have in place fingers crossed for the summer
- 18:51Speaker 2: season next year. We're just working our way through that
- 18:55Speaker 2: to see where we can find somewhere.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Right, okay, And so yeah, I've been down there a
- 18:59Speaker 1: few times to watch the netball and I do enjoy it.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So the netball league is thriving. Do you run any
- 19:06Speaker 1: projects or anything else, you know, like a sort of
- 19:09Speaker 1: back to netball if someone wants to get back into
- 19:11Speaker 1: the game.
- 19:12Speaker 2: We haven't done that in recent years. We used to,
- 19:15Speaker 2: but everybody is so busy, it's trying to get everything.
- 19:18Speaker 2: There are social leagues, yeah, and it is a good
- 19:21Speaker 2: way to get back to netbul to decide if you
- 19:23Speaker 2: want to, because you don't have to affiliate to England Netball,
- 19:27Speaker 2: whereas with our league we ask you to affiliate.
- 19:29Speaker 1: So we're inshured.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Right there's at three heels on a Tuesday and a
- 19:35Speaker 2: Thursday evening. There are two separate social leagues.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Right now. There's one thing I want to ask you about,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and it's a word I don't like using for some reason.
- 19:45Speaker 1: It's called floaters. I just conjure up something else which
- 19:49Speaker 1: I won't describe on air because I lose my job.
- 19:51Speaker 1: But if you are a floater, tell me what a
- 19:54Speaker 1: floater is.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Okay, So a floater is a player who can't commit
- 19:57Speaker 2: to play every week. Rather than signing to a team
- 20:01Speaker 2: and having to fork out your fees every week to play,
- 20:05Speaker 2: you can join our floaters list and a pole goes
- 20:08Speaker 2: up in the WhatsApp group and you say, if you're
- 20:11Speaker 2: available that week to play and at what time? Then
- 20:14Speaker 2: if any teams need players, they will contact you and
- 20:17Speaker 2: say can you come up and us out tonight. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 2: you can't play for the same team more than three
- 20:23Speaker 2: times before you have to register, but it gives you
- 20:26Speaker 2: a chance to play for different teams to find out
- 20:29Speaker 2: what your level is and where your best fit is.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Right, And I mean, are there many floaters? Does it work?
- 20:36Speaker 2: It does work?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah, teams. Right, let's get back to basics. How many
- 20:41Speaker 1: in a team is it? It's seven on seven? Yeah, right?
- 20:44Speaker 1: So if a team's only got five, they might be
- 20:47Speaker 1: putting the word out for a couple of floaters.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And they're only allowed to borrow too, are they right?
- 20:53Speaker 2: And you can't have You've got to have more of
- 20:56Speaker 2: your own players floaters.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Right, Okay, So I'm asking all the questions. But is
- 21:03Speaker 1: there anything else you want to add to your little
- 21:05Speaker 1: list that you've got there?
- 21:09Speaker 2: I think we've covered We've covered.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Most of it. Yeah right, Oh, I'll tell you what
- 21:14Speaker 1: we want to talk about. Is you got a tournament
- 21:15Speaker 1: coming up? Haven't you tell me about that?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Right? We're holding another mixed tournament. It's on the first
- 21:22Speaker 2: of November at three Hills, starting at nine and depending
- 21:26Speaker 2: on teams, we're looking to aim to finish by three.
- 21:29Speaker 2: It will be a Halloween themed fancy dress.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Oh well, that'll be good.
- 21:35Speaker 2: So all teams will be given a theme when they
- 21:38Speaker 2: register to produce themselves on the day.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Right team to play netball? Teams of witches and warlocks
- 21:46Speaker 1: and yeah, great, that'd be good. I've come up and watch, say,
- 21:49Speaker 1: get a few pictures. Okay, So, if you think we
- 21:53Speaker 1: are getting near the end of it, is there any
- 21:56Speaker 1: people that you really think are worth a mentioned. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 1: it's so difficult, I won't say worth it, that's not fair.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Any people that you would like to mention And in
- 22:04Speaker 1: the course of your folks in Netble League appearances.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Our committee at the moment it's very strong and we're
- 22:11Speaker 2: really pulling through to move netball and folks them forward
- 22:16Speaker 2: so it will be too long many Yeah, you get
- 22:19Speaker 2: told committee.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Leave someone out, your getting be in trouble.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah. And to the umpires again, who whenever I ring
- 22:26Speaker 2: up and say is there any chance you can cover
- 22:28Speaker 2: a game? Yeah, they do it for jellybabies?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Well brilliant, yeah, the jelly baby. So finally, then, how
- 22:34Speaker 1: can people get in touch with you or the if
- 22:37Speaker 1: anything to do with the local netble leagues? Right?
- 22:40Speaker 2: So, you can get hold of us on Facebook at
- 22:42Speaker 2: folks in Netball League, or you can email Folkston Netball
- 22:47Speaker 2: at gmail dot com and we will get back to you.
- 22:50Speaker 2: We would love to have you as part of our league.
- 22:52Speaker 1: There you go. So if anybody out there listening to this,
- 22:54Speaker 1: and perhaps you've just moved to the area and you know,
- 22:58Speaker 1: used to play netball and you want to get back
- 23:00Speaker 1: into it, then that's the place to go. The Facebook
- 23:03Speaker 1: page and the email and I'm sure the email addresses
- 23:05Speaker 1: on the Facebook page somewhere. But okay, Angie, do you
- 23:09Speaker 1: think we've covered everything? Now? I think I think we
- 23:12Speaker 1: have done you. We've done a good job. Yeah, right,
- 23:15Speaker 1: So it just leads me to say thank you so
- 23:19Speaker 1: much for coming in and I'll tell you what. I've
- 23:22Speaker 1: just thought it was something and this tournament super short,
- 23:25Speaker 1: and there was something else, wasn't there. I knew, I
- 23:29Speaker 1: knew it was complicated. Yeah, I knew it was complicated.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So quickly run for us. What a super short okay.
- 23:34Speaker 2: So super shots on the court. We have a d
- 23:37Speaker 2: at both ends, which is a white circle. We have
- 23:40Speaker 2: an inner orange circle. If a goal attack or goal
- 23:44Speaker 2: shooter scores a goal between the white and the orange,
- 23:48Speaker 2: they score two goals.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Okay, so it's a bit further out, a bit.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Further out goals. Each team in the Winter starts with
- 23:54Speaker 2: a handicap, so a set amount of goals depending on
- 23:57Speaker 2: where they finished in the league, to make it a
- 23:59Speaker 2: bit more fun, a bit more competitive, so that their
- 24:02Speaker 2: teams down the bottom aren't being beaten heavens at the top.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So that's one section. And then we have versatility, where
- 24:09Speaker 2: bibbs are just given out random yeah yeah, and they
- 24:12Speaker 2: follow a rotation at each quarter.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Great, so you don't know where you're playing, yeah great,
- 24:18Speaker 1: Some love it, some hating, yeah yeah, I'm not playing
- 24:21Speaker 1: there again. Well, Angie, thank you so much. It's been great,
- 24:26Speaker 1: and thank you for coming in and telling us all
- 24:28Speaker 1: about the folction nebul League and especially about the umpire
- 24:31Speaker 1: and it's been a brilliant morning. Thank you, thank you
- 24:33Speaker 1: very much. Okay, so there we go. That was Angie
- 24:35Speaker 1: Bates there and we've got so much to learn today,
- 24:37Speaker 1: haven't we. Right, better get back to a bit of
- 24:40Speaker 1: music now, and this is one direction and dragged me down.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I'm got fire for a heart. I'm not scared of
- 24:48Speaker 1: the dark. You've never seen it look, so my direction
- 24:56Speaker 1: drag me down right. Well, that was a lovely interview
- 24:59Speaker 1: there with Antie Bay from the Folkston Netle League. And
- 25:02Speaker 1: it's so good that there's a sportlight netble really booming
- 25:05Speaker 1: in Folkston. Okay, time for some cricket now where the
- 25:09Speaker 1: local cricket season is are now over, although some teams
- 25:13Speaker 1: have continued to play friendlies. So let's have a roundup
- 25:16Speaker 1: of how they're all finished up. Canterbury first eleven batted
- 25:20Speaker 1: first against Folkston first eleven and made two hundred and
- 25:22Speaker 1: sixty nine for six in their fifty overs. Folkston then
- 25:26Speaker 1: scored two hundred and eight for eight in their fifty
- 25:29Speaker 1: overs so lost the match by sixty one runs, ending
- 25:32Speaker 1: the season seventh out of ten teams in the championship,
- 25:36Speaker 1: the Folks and second team. They traveled to Nottington, who
- 25:39Speaker 1: went in first and scored one hundred and eighty eight
- 25:41Speaker 1: for eight in a forty five over game. Folkston then
- 25:45Speaker 1: came oh so close, making one hundred and eighty four
- 25:49Speaker 1: for seven in their forty five overs, so lost the
- 25:52Speaker 1: game by just four runs. Now that's interesting actually because
- 25:56Speaker 1: I looking into the depths of the scoring and in
- 25:58Speaker 1: this Gameton gained twenty three runs as extras whilst Folkston
- 26:03Speaker 1: gained sixteen. So it just goes to show how important
- 26:07Speaker 1: is not to give away so many extras when the
- 26:09Speaker 1: final score is so close. The Seconds finished in sixth
- 26:13Speaker 1: place out of ten, and that's in Division six in
- 26:17Speaker 1: the Hurricane Section. In Division ten Shepherd Section, already already
- 26:23Speaker 1: a relegated Westgate on Sea conceded the game to Folks
- 26:26Speaker 1: Doon third eleven, so they finished six out of ten.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Folkston fourteen traveled to already crowned champions Ashford and gave
- 26:34Speaker 1: them a good run for their money, losing the game
- 26:36Speaker 1: by just two wickets, finishing the season fifth out of
- 26:40Speaker 1: ten in Division eleven Shepherd Section, and the fifth eleven
- 26:44Speaker 1: ended on a huge note on a high note sorry,
- 26:47Speaker 1: traveling to Chestfield and beating them by four wickets, finishing
- 26:51Speaker 1: fifth out of seven in Division twelve in the Shepherd Section.
- 26:56Speaker 1: So a very steady old season by all the folks
- 26:59Speaker 1: than fiveteen. No promotion or relegation issues to talk about
- 27:03Speaker 1: with two teams finish in fifth, two teams finishing sixth
- 27:07Speaker 1: and one team finish in seventh. Okay, so we're going
- 27:10Speaker 1: to move on to the rest of our local teams.
- 27:14Speaker 1: In Division eight Shepherd Section, Hawkins finished their season beat
- 27:18Speaker 1: in Saint Lawrence and Highland Court by seventy one runs
- 27:22Speaker 1: and became champions. And in the same division I have
- 27:26Speaker 1: finished second without bowling a ball. Now, I was going
- 27:29Speaker 1: to go down to this game, which was at the
- 27:31Speaker 1: Grove to watch Hive against Bottom Club, already relegated Canterbury
- 27:37Speaker 1: thirt eleven and at the time had to win this
- 27:40Speaker 1: one to gain promotion. Well luckily I didn't travel down
- 27:43Speaker 1: after checking the play Cricket website for a start time,
- 27:47Speaker 1: only to find Canterbury had conceded the game. So I
- 27:50Speaker 1: have gained twenty points the victory and promotion. High Green
- 27:55Speaker 1: traveled to Worth but lost by eight wickets, leaving them
- 27:58Speaker 1: eighth out of ten, avoiding relegation. Salt Wood lost the
- 28:02Speaker 1: way to champions Herne Bay by thirty eight runs, ending
- 28:06Speaker 1: up six out of ten in Division nine Shepherd Section
- 28:09Speaker 1: and Siptom Park First eleven opened the bat in against Bapchild,
- 28:13Speaker 1: making one hundred and ninety seven for five, but Bapchild
- 28:16Speaker 1: replied with two hundred and one for eight, winning the
- 28:19Speaker 1: game by two wickets. So the SIBS First eleven finished
- 28:22Speaker 1: the fifth in Division five Hurricane Section, while the SIBS
- 28:26Speaker 1: second team have already finished their season last week when
- 28:29Speaker 1: they Beaches Filled by seventy one runs and gained promotion
- 28:33Speaker 1: as runners up. So Summon up the season no real
- 28:36Speaker 1: low points all our teams avoiding relegation. However, congratulations must
- 28:41Speaker 1: go to champions Hawkins and to runners up Highe and
- 28:45Speaker 1: Siptom Park second team in their respective divisions. Now, before
- 28:50Speaker 1: we leave cricket, which might be for some time now
- 28:52Speaker 1: as it's come all come into an end, I want
- 28:54Speaker 1: to tell you about a friendly match I went to
- 28:55Speaker 1: see between Folks and Sunday eleven and a visiting touriside
- 29:00Speaker 1: the old Castletonians who come from Croydon but have a
- 29:04Speaker 1: Caribbean flavor about them. I got chatted into a couple
- 29:07Speaker 1: of the visiting spectators and they told me that they
- 29:10Speaker 1: don't really have a settled home ground and they play
- 29:12Speaker 1: a lot of their cricketing against teams in Surrey, but
- 29:16Speaker 1: have been coming to Folkston for around fifteen years and
- 29:18Speaker 1: I've certainly seen them a few times when they've come down.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Folks and Batty First have made two hundred and thirty
- 29:24Speaker 1: two for three in their forty overs. But the interesting
- 29:27Speaker 1: thing is that there were three players out there. They
- 29:30Speaker 1: were all very young. WI could keeper Bo Morgan, son
- 29:34Speaker 1: of former guests at the show, Carlie Morgan, is in
- 29:37Speaker 1: his early teens and eastcored thirty one and only the
- 29:40Speaker 1: day before he made his debut in the first team.
- 29:43Speaker 1: A dt Arianne who normally plays for the thirteen. Well,
- 29:47Speaker 1: she yes, she scored thirty runs. Herbert Simpson, who looked
- 29:51Speaker 1: I couldn't have a chat with her, but but he
- 29:53Speaker 1: only looked about twelve thirteen EA scored six not out
- 29:57Speaker 1: and he looked very very solid, very enthusiastic. But star
- 30:01Speaker 1: of the show was Theo Coombs who was only fifteen.
- 30:04Speaker 1: He made one hundred and three, not out achieving his
- 30:06Speaker 1: century on the very last ball of the innings with
- 30:09Speaker 1: a four, and of course we mustn't forget senior member
- 30:12Speaker 1: Ryder Wallace who made a solid fifty four. The Castletonians
- 30:17Speaker 1: gave a good account of themselves, all their players making
- 30:19Speaker 1: runs except one and they managed one hundred and ninety one,
- 30:23Speaker 1: but it wasn't enough, so folks, the won by forty
- 30:25Speaker 1: one runs. So it just goes to show that there
- 30:29Speaker 1: is some young talent in the wings there waiting for
- 30:31Speaker 1: their chances. And this has been proved by a young Theo,
- 30:34Speaker 1: who's been ever present in the Saturday First eleven and
- 30:38Speaker 1: he will now be turning his attention to hockey with
- 30:41Speaker 1: the Optomists, and that he's been a regular with four
- 30:45Speaker 1: another former guests of the show coach Adrian, and so
- 30:48Speaker 1: I think we'd be hearing more about him in the
- 30:50Speaker 1: hockey scene. And it was nice to see Theo's mum
- 30:53Speaker 1: and dad, his sister, and two lovely people that I know,
- 30:56Speaker 1: his grandmother Deirdre and his granddad Graham Coombs. There is
- 31:00Speaker 1: a great great runner. She loves her part run and
- 31:03Speaker 1: Graham is an awesome volunteer at the part run as well,
- 31:07Speaker 1: so it's good to see everybody down there supporting THEO.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And really you knew it was like a reggae Caribbean
- 31:14Speaker 1: theme because as I approached the ground, I could hear
- 31:17Speaker 1: all this music pumping out and went upstairs and he
- 31:20Speaker 1: was constantly playing and it really and it was a
- 31:24Speaker 1: lovely sunny day. You really wish you was in the Caribbean.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So there's not many cricket songs in the playlist. I
- 31:32Speaker 1: found one the other week, Dreadlock Holiday. I don't want
- 31:34Speaker 1: to play that again, so I found this one. How
- 31:36Speaker 1: about this Ashes to Ashes, So that's David Bowie there.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I was just going to fade that down for a
- 31:58Speaker 1: few seconds because the interview, as it always does, when
- 32:03Speaker 1: on a little bit longer than I thought, but I
- 32:05Speaker 1: didn't want to interrupt Andreie. It was such an interesting chat.
- 32:09Speaker 1: So what I want to do now is talk about
- 32:12Speaker 1: the Great North Run. Now, over the last few years,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I've got to know and support a team of ladies
- 32:17Speaker 1: from Folks to on Optimist Hockey Club who called themselves
- 32:20Speaker 1: the Scrambled Legs. Yes you've heard that right, the Scrambled Legs.
- 32:25Speaker 1: These ladies in the past have challenged themselves to take
- 32:27Speaker 1: on the Hive Bay Triathlon, walking up Mount Snowden, having
- 32:32Speaker 1: a go at the fastest zipwire in the UK. And
- 32:35Speaker 1: last Sunday, three of them, Katrina Peak, Vicki Jones and
- 32:39Speaker 1: Rona Fry took on the Great North Run. And I'm
- 32:41Speaker 1: going to read out this report which was sent to
- 32:43Speaker 1: me by Katrina. Now please remember this is I didn't run.
- 32:48Speaker 1: These are Katrina's words. Traveling up to the Great North
- 32:51Speaker 1: Run on Saturday the sixth of September, Rona, Vicki and
- 32:54Speaker 1: I were filled with excitement and apprehension for the biggest
- 32:58Speaker 1: half marathon event hosting sixty thousand runners. Folks into Newcastle
- 33:03Speaker 1: is a long way, but with all the training behind us,
- 33:05Speaker 1: we were hopeful the weather would stay dry and the
- 33:08Speaker 1: crowds would encourage us all the way from Newcastle to
- 33:11Speaker 1: South Shields. With alarms set for six point thirty on
- 33:15Speaker 1: Sunday the seventh the event, they was finally here and
- 33:18Speaker 1: now was the time we hoped all the training and
- 33:21Speaker 1: hard work would pay off. As we arrived into Newcastle
- 33:24Speaker 1: for the event that had brought us all together. Music
- 33:27Speaker 1: lined the streets and every person you saw seemed to
- 33:30Speaker 1: be wearing a race number for the start line. As
- 33:33Speaker 1: we head over to our Pink Wave start point, bags
- 33:36Speaker 1: were dropped off and we made our way down to
- 33:38Speaker 1: the start. The energy was like none other. Everyone was
- 33:42Speaker 1: there to support and encourage each other, with so many
- 33:44Speaker 1: different charities at the heart of people's efforts. I was
- 33:48Speaker 1: raising money for Bail Cancer UK, Rona was supporting Dreams
- 33:52Speaker 1: Come True and Vicki raised money for Tommy's charity. We
- 33:56Speaker 1: all raised several hundred pounds for our charities and thank
- 33:59Speaker 1: all those who reported us, helping us to reach our
- 34:01Speaker 1: targets and allow the charities to keep doing the wonderful
- 34:04Speaker 1: work they do. Once the race began, the immediate support
- 34:08Speaker 1: from the crowds was almost overwhelming, but absolutely incredible, and
- 34:13Speaker 1: that remained throughout the entire thirteen point one miles. We
- 34:16Speaker 1: can't thank enough all those that supported on the sidelines
- 34:19Speaker 1: back home and who offered all of us such kindness
- 34:22Speaker 1: and encouragement. It was a race day we'll never forget
- 34:26Speaker 1: and I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather share it
- 34:28Speaker 1: with rather than Rona and Vicky. So a big thank
- 34:33Speaker 1: you to Katrina there. That's a lovely report. She took
- 34:35Speaker 1: the time to send it to me. And that's on
- 34:38Speaker 1: behalf of the scrambled legs. But there are two other
- 34:41Speaker 1: scrambled legs that didn't do the Great North Run that
- 34:43Speaker 1: I do think do deserve a mention. They've done all
- 34:46Speaker 1: the other events. That's Vicky Baxter and Julie Griffin. Now,
- 34:50Speaker 1: the run for the three ladies went well. They all
- 34:52Speaker 1: got home safely, unscathed. Vicky Jones came in two hours
- 34:57Speaker 1: twenty five twenty seven and looking at the split times,
- 35:00Speaker 1: they all stay together up until about five miles. Then
- 35:04Speaker 1: the Vicky, who is a bit quicker, she shut off,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but Katrina and Rona stayed together and came in together
- 35:12Speaker 1: at two twenty eighth seven. Now, just to highlight the charities,
- 35:16Speaker 1: Vicky who run for Tommy's charity that researches causes and
- 35:20Speaker 1: complications of pregnancy, miscarriages and more. Katrina run for Bow
- 35:26Speaker 1: Cancer UK, which is dedicated to treatments and potential cures.
- 35:31Speaker 1: And Rona for a run for a charity called Dreams
- 35:34Speaker 1: Come True which fulfills the dreams of children and young
- 35:37Speaker 1: adults who have a wide range of medical complications. So
- 35:41Speaker 1: there you go, and now I haven't seen them yet.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I know I haven't asked them yet, but I wonder
- 35:46Speaker 1: what their next challenge will be. I'm sure there's something
- 35:50Speaker 1: else up there sleeve.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:52Speaker 1: There's a lot of other local runners are here and
- 35:54Speaker 1: I just want to whit through those from the folks
- 35:57Speaker 1: who running an athletics club. Paul Bartlett on twenty five seventeen,
- 36:01Speaker 1: Katherine O'Connor one thirty seven twenty two, James Springett one
- 36:05Speaker 1: forty one forty, Louisa Eid one forty two forty four,
- 36:09Speaker 1: Jason O'Callahan one fifty two fifty one and Roy Atkins
- 36:13Speaker 1: former guest of the show two nineteen fifty eight oh
- 36:17Speaker 1: and Louisa d also a former guest of the show
- 36:20Speaker 1: from South Ken Harriers, Royd Powell two oh three twenty eight,
- 36:24Speaker 1: Mark Savill two o six fifty one, Marie Westbrook two
- 36:28Speaker 1: eighteen forty and another form of the guest of the
- 36:31Speaker 1: show Mel Powell two twenty two seventeen. There was also
- 36:35Speaker 1: a big half marathon in London. Local athletes taking part
- 36:39Speaker 1: Darren Crewe one thirty two oh two, Prakash one forty
- 36:42Speaker 1: seven seventeen, Jacob Henwood one thirty two thirty three, Josh
- 36:47Speaker 1: Pine one twenty one forty six, Jody Stokes one fifty
- 36:50Speaker 1: seven twenty six, Ranjit to Man one fifty forty nine,
- 36:54Speaker 1: Gene Evans one fifty nine nineteen, Tristan Upton won fifty
- 36:59Speaker 1: three fifty five four and I must just give Deal
- 37:03Speaker 1: Try Club a mention as they put in a team
- 37:05Speaker 1: of forty five runners in the big half. Now there's
- 37:08Speaker 1: some great pictures on their Facebook page, and a big
- 37:11Speaker 1: thank you to bron Win Lefty for keeping me in
- 37:13Speaker 1: the loop there, and well done to Paul King who
- 37:16Speaker 1: smashed one of the hardest ultras in the country in Wales,
- 37:20Speaker 1: digging in for seventeen hours and fifty minutes twenty eight seconds,
- 37:24Speaker 1: But no doubt his mind was on the raising funds
- 37:27Speaker 1: for his favorite charity, the Romney Marsh Community Hub. Strangely enough,
- 37:31Speaker 1: his race number was one ninety six and he came
- 37:33Speaker 1: in in one nine to sixth position out of two
- 37:37Speaker 1: hundred and seventeen many not making There was a cutoff
- 37:40Speaker 1: time for this one twenty one hours, so a massive,
- 37:44Speaker 1: massive well done to you, Paul, and that was an
- 37:46Speaker 1: awesome thing to do. So there we go, Tier Squeeze.
- 37:49Speaker 1: One more song in and then I've got time, gonna
- 37:52Speaker 1: crack on it with a bit of football. In the meantime,
- 37:55Speaker 1: let's have a little listen to Katie Lang and Constant Cravin.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Well there was a couple of minutes anyway of Cadie
- 38:15Speaker 1: Lang Constant Craven. And the thing is, I do want
- 38:19Speaker 1: to get this for the last report in local football scores,
- 38:23Speaker 1: So let's turn our attention to focusing in Victor now.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Last week they beat Whitehawk for one at home, their
- 38:30Speaker 1: home as you know, they were without a home ground
- 38:33Speaker 1: at the moment. They played this at Hartsdown Park and
- 38:36Speaker 1: listen to this one tomorrow, Yes, tomorrow Friday evening they
- 38:40Speaker 1: play Maystone United in the second qualifying round of the
- 38:43Speaker 1: FA Cup at home again, but this time their home
- 38:46Speaker 1: ground will be Chatham Town and that is an eight
- 38:50Speaker 1: pm kickoff. So this game is worth three three hundred
- 38:53Speaker 1: and seventy five pounds of the winners and one and
- 38:57Speaker 1: twenty five pounds of the losers. And I tell you
- 39:00Speaker 1: it's going to be a tough one. I've found a
- 39:02Speaker 1: slipped down to sixteenth place after losing two new at
- 39:05Speaker 1: home to Fisher on Saturday, and they lost three to
- 39:08Speaker 1: one again at Richfield's on Tuesday night and to Lockfield
- 39:12Speaker 1: and New Hive. This Saturday they are away to Chiselhurst Glebe.
- 39:18Speaker 1: All the games mentioned there were in the Skeffold League,
- 39:20Speaker 1: which is better known as the Southern Counties East Football League. However,
- 39:25Speaker 1: on Saturday September twentieth they take a break from the
- 39:28Speaker 1: league to play in the second qualifying round of the
- 39:30Speaker 1: Favars and that's a home to a team called Athletic
- 39:34Speaker 1: Newman FC, who traveled from Dagenham in Essex. In the
- 39:38Speaker 1: NLG Kent County League, Hawkins beat Cuxton two to one
- 39:41Speaker 1: at home, and this Saturday they're at home again, this
- 39:44Speaker 1: time to Falkenwood who would traveled down from swan Lea.
- 39:48Speaker 1: New Romney lost three to home to long Lane and
- 39:51Speaker 1: this week they're away to Bexley. Currently the league table
- 39:55Speaker 1: looks like this Hawkins July in second place at one
- 39:58Speaker 1: point behind leaders Alsford, but I have two games in hand,
- 40:02Speaker 1: and in Romney are fifteenth out of nineteen teams. And finally,
- 40:07Speaker 1: last Sunday, the folkus Din in Victor women's team started
- 40:09Speaker 1: their season with a splendid three to one win over
- 40:12Speaker 1: Selling Ladies sing This Sunday, though they face a tough
- 40:16Speaker 1: game away at Sittingbourn a team called Park Regis Ladies
- 40:20Speaker 1: who started their season with a big six to one
- 40:22Speaker 1: win against Faversham. So you've got to look to look
- 40:26Speaker 1: out for that one, that's for sure. Look out for
- 40:28Speaker 1: the result for that game for the ladies. Okay, So
- 40:33Speaker 1: we are constantly craving for a bit more time on
- 40:36Speaker 1: the show. That was Katie Lang there and so it's
- 40:40Speaker 1: not much time to go. We've just got over just
- 40:42Speaker 1: over a minute left and I'll tell you what. We
- 40:46Speaker 1: will play a bit of this one Bobby Brown, and
- 40:47Speaker 1: then we're going to fade it out because it will
- 40:49Speaker 1: be time to go. I'll be talking to you in
- 40:51Speaker 1: just a few seconds. This is Bobby Brown and two
- 40:53Speaker 1: can play that game sting. But as it for me
- 41:03Speaker 1: for this week, I'm afraid there won't be a live
- 41:05Speaker 1: sports show on Saturday as eighty is down at the
- 41:07Speaker 1: Scarboro Festival and I'll be emc at Dover Waterfront Park
- 41:11Speaker 1: runs at second Birthday. Then I'm up on Sunday. I
- 41:14Speaker 1: should be down at Rye MC in the nice book
- 41:17Speaker 1: rya Ancient Trails Race. So let's hope the rain stays
- 41:21Speaker 1: away and whatever you do stay sport, seem sure attitude
- 41:31Speaker 1: and I'll see you on Thursday. You just stop seeing
- 41:34Speaker 1: the same on one oh five point nine SM, online
- 41:38Speaker 1: at Radio Folkston dot com and on your smart speaker
