Latest / The Daily Writer / Self-Doubt is Just Fear in Disguise
Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Have you ever stopped to wonder why we sometimes don't do the things we really want to do?
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: For many years, statistics have shown that at least eight out of every ten people want to write a book.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Why then do so many not follow through on their writing dreams?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Well, that's a great question, but the problem is not only out there, it's in here too.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: We can think of times when we have shrunk back and didn't follow through on our goals.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Is it laziness, lack of discipline, a lack of talent?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: No, it's usually just self-doubt.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Even if the logical side of our brain tells us we can achieve something, self-doubt creeps in and we hold back.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: The novelist Sylvia Path once said, and by the way, everything our life is writable about, if you have the outgoing guts to do it and the imagination to improvise, the worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Well, self-doubt seems like a relatively mild concept, but let's call a spade a spade.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Self-doubt is just fear in disguise.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: We don't doubt ourselves because of any rational thought process.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: We're just plain old scared of failing.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: So take courage.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: If you're working toward a big goal and you have a good plan for achieving it, don't get sidetracked by negative emotions.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: That fear you're feeling is just a ghost, a mirage, a phantom.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: There's nothing it can do to hurt you, and if you ignore it, it will eventually go away and haunt someone else.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
