Transcript

- 0:33Speaker 1: I share a prompt that hopefully makes you think. I
- 0:37Speaker 1: offer up some of my favorite things from the last
- 0:42Speaker 1: seven days, whether that's an article or a podcast episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: or just some cool product or thing that I'm super into,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and leave you with a little bit of wisdom to
- 0:53Speaker 1: head on into your weekend. So if you like what
- 0:56Speaker 1: you are hearing, if you like five Minute Friday, make
- 0:58Speaker 1: sure to let me know by heading on in to
- 1:02Speaker 1: the iTunes store. The link is in the show notes
- 1:04Speaker 1: to this episode, Rate and review the podcast, let me
- 1:07Speaker 1: know how you feel. I'm all yours, and as always,
- 1:10Speaker 1: give me a shout over on social media. It's at
- 1:12Speaker 1: Emily a Body and at Hurdle Podcast. So for this week,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about something that I feel like a lot
- 1:21Speaker 1: of other people feel right now but may not be
- 1:26Speaker 1: so vocal about it. Listen, things are crazy right now.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They're chaotic. We are all living in this state of
- 1:36Speaker 1: ambient anxiety. But it's hard not to think about what
- 1:41Speaker 1: was supposed to be. I am on day ten of
- 1:48Speaker 1: not running. I went out for a jaunt ten days ago,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and toward the end of the run, I had a
- 1:58Speaker 1: pain that felt so debilitating and uncomfortable on my left
- 2:04Speaker 1: side near my hip that I had to stop. With
- 2:09Speaker 1: about a mile left to my house. I walked, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: I was beside myself, knowing that finally, after this pain
- 2:21Speaker 1: had come and gone for the last few months, that
- 2:25Speaker 1: it was about time I really gave my body some rest. Now.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The last thing that anyone wants to deal with during
- 2:35Speaker 1: a pandemic, again, when we're feeling anxious and we're staying
- 2:39Speaker 1: inside for the most part, and when running is your
- 2:43Speaker 1: coping mechanism, is that you cannot run. So while no
- 2:48Speaker 1: one told me I couldn't run, I knew and I
- 2:52Speaker 1: know that it is important, so important to give my
- 2:56Speaker 1: body some rest. Now I can't help but think and
- 3:00Speaker 1: all of this. That next week. I was supposed to
- 3:05Speaker 1: be heading to London. Next week, I was going to
- 3:07Speaker 1: be gearing up for what would be my ninth marathon.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And if this all wasn't happening, if I was still
- 3:15Speaker 1: heading across the pond to log those twenty six point
- 3:19Speaker 1: two miles and run over Tower Bridge and experience that
- 3:23Speaker 1: great city in a new way. I would probably just
- 3:27Speaker 1: be sucking up this hip thing and pretending it wasn't
- 3:30Speaker 1: an issue. You know me, I'm pretty upfront with what's
- 3:33Speaker 1: going on with my life, especially on social media, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: this hip thing has been something that I haven't really
- 3:40Speaker 1: talked a lot about. And that's because it just feels
- 3:43Speaker 1: right now like there are so many more important things.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So many individuals are dealing with hard stuff, losing loved
- 3:53Speaker 1: ones to this awful virus. Who am I to speak
- 3:58Speaker 1: up when otherwise I am completely healthy? But the thing
- 4:01Speaker 1: is is that just because all of this is happening
- 4:05Speaker 1: doesn't mean that how I feel isn't valid, And that's
- 4:09Speaker 1: really important. Right now, I'm going to be okay, But
- 4:15Speaker 1: I guess I'm just telling you all of this so
- 4:17Speaker 1: that you know, if there's something you're frustrated with, something
- 4:20Speaker 1: that was supposed to happen. Things were supposed to be
- 4:23Speaker 1: some kind of way. It's okay to feel frustrated as
- 4:29Speaker 1: long as you keep it in perspective, which brings about
- 4:34Speaker 1: this week's prompt. This week's thought provoking question, what is
- 4:39Speaker 1: it that you're really grateful for right now? Again, what
- 4:43Speaker 1: is it that you are really grateful for right now?
- 4:46Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be something huge, because when I
- 4:51Speaker 1: feel myself getting sucked into that this isn't how it
- 4:54Speaker 1: was supposed to be feeling. I take a step back
- 4:59Speaker 1: and I asked my myself, what are you grateful for?
- 5:02Speaker 1: What can you be thankful for? What is it that
- 5:05Speaker 1: brings me joy every single day? This whole story appropriate
- 5:10Speaker 1: to lead us into my content pics for the week.
- 5:13Speaker 1: First off, an unbelievably written article by a good friend
- 5:18Speaker 1: of mine, Kate for Tempo Journal on her good friend
- 5:21Speaker 1: Elliot Kipchogi. Many of you know him to be one
- 5:25Speaker 1: of the best runners of all time, and he was
- 5:28Speaker 1: set to run London as well, even if running is
- 5:33Speaker 1: not your thing. Again, her words are just so well
- 5:37Speaker 1: strung together and it reads like poetry, and it is
- 5:41Speaker 1: absolutely remarkable and just a reminder. All of these content
- 5:45Speaker 1: picks they are in the show notes in the link
- 5:47Speaker 1: with the description to this episode if you're looking for
- 5:50Speaker 1: a good movie to watch, Thanks to those of you
- 5:53Speaker 1: that threw me suggestions. The other night for my personal
- 5:56Speaker 1: movie night with Popcorn included, I sat down and watched
- 6:00Speaker 1: The Gentleman with Matthew McConaughey, and I thought it was excellent.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I also have been having a personal pizza night on
- 6:08Speaker 1: Fridays and I could not be more excited because I
- 6:13Speaker 1: have purchased and acquired received Emily the cookbook. There's an
- 6:19Speaker 1: amazing pizza spot here in New York City. It's called Emily.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Obviously I have a soft spot for it. Tonight, I
- 6:27Speaker 1: am going to be making their signature Emily Pizza. It's
- 6:31Speaker 1: got crushed pistachios and honey and like four or five
- 6:35Speaker 1: different types of cheeses, and I could not be more stoked.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So the cookbook is a content recommendation, but if you
- 6:43Speaker 1: are getting into the kitchen now, it is a great
- 6:46Speaker 1: time just to play around and try new things. And
- 6:49Speaker 1: for me, that new thing is pizza Fridays from scratch.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Two more things to highlight. First of all, the content
- 6:56Speaker 1: that is over on self dot com right now is
- 6:58Speaker 1: absolutely remarkable. I think a lot of brands are trying
- 7:03Speaker 1: to figure out how to create smart content that's informative
- 7:06Speaker 1: and really has some great service. So kudos to the
- 7:10Speaker 1: edit team there on smart really excellent reads like how
- 7:13Speaker 1: to tell if your Shortness of breath is from anxiety
- 7:16Speaker 1: or coronavirus. Literally, I've been asking myself that every single day.
- 7:20Speaker 1: How to shop for groceries while protecting yourself from coronavirus.
- 7:24Speaker 1: What it's like to be a crisis text counselor right now,
- 7:27Speaker 1: what it means to be a black health editor during
- 7:30Speaker 1: this pandemic. Like I said, thought provoking, great content. Definitely
- 7:35Speaker 1: head on over and check it out. And last, but
- 7:37Speaker 1: not least, a gear pick of the Week from Rebok.
- 7:40Speaker 1: This is not sponsored. Their new NanoX sneaker comes out
- 7:45Speaker 1: the first week of May, and I myself got a
- 7:48Speaker 1: pair a little bit early to check out. It looks
- 7:52Speaker 1: like fire and it's without a doubt, the best iteration
- 7:57Speaker 1: of this sneaker to date. Now, if you aren't familiar
- 8:00Speaker 1: with the Nano, the Nano is a really great sneaker
- 8:03Speaker 1: for high insights in the interval training or weightlifting. It's
- 8:07Speaker 1: classically been known as one of the most popular CrossFit shoes,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but this shoe, more than ever right now goes beyond CrossFit.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It's for all types of athletes and I cannot wait
- 8:20Speaker 1: to get into workout in these guys. That's it for
- 8:23Speaker 1: this week. I loved what Natalie Kunes said to me
- 8:26Speaker 1: in her episode about her family motto having to do
- 8:29Speaker 1: with kindness, and I'm going to leave you with mine
- 8:32Speaker 1: this week. My family motto is do good, keep doing
- 8:37Speaker 1: good for you, keep doing good for those around you,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and keep your chin up. Another hurdle conquered. Catch you
- 8:44Speaker 1: guys next time.
