  Speaker 1: So we are here to discuss college basketball now maybe

  Speaker 1: all the way to the national Championship. And for those

  Speaker 1: who stick with us the whole time, you know what

  Speaker 1: a week two weeks later, the NBA Playoffs kick it,

  Speaker 1: so we call it the NBA Playoffs Panter Podcast. Stay

  Speaker 1: twelve is getting challenge. It's getting huge, major challenge by

  Speaker 1: twelve has been phenomenal for many years. Really these last

  Speaker 1: few have been phenomenal. And now the SEC, I guess

  Speaker 1: they're a little you know, pissed off that they haven't

  Speaker 1: won a chip in a couple of years for football.

  Speaker 1: the extended playoffs. We were just talking about how they'll

  Speaker 1: NFL having all that kind of soak up a lot

  Speaker 1: of the attention. But it was a fun ride in
• 3:56
  Speaker 1: each divis or, Each each round got better and better

  Speaker 1: and better. And I credit Notre Dame for coming back
• 4:06
  Speaker 1: in that game because for a while there. You can
• 4:09
  Speaker 1: actually tell Marshall by the rating, the television rating. A

  Speaker 1: lot of people thought, oh it's over, you know, once
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: another or once ohiose they got way up. A lot
• 4:19
  Speaker 1: of people just didn't come back to the game. But
• 4:23
  Speaker 1: a fun season, no doubt. It's kind of hard to believe.

  Speaker 1: Here we are late January twenty twenty five, when it
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: feels like just yesterday, late August we started the run
• 4:36
  Speaker 1: towards the champion man and now here we are right
• 4:38
  Speaker 1: in college basketball season.

  Speaker 4: Yeah, with this, with this different schedule, Chris, it definitely
• 4:46
  Speaker 4: does feel a little bit different.

  Speaker 2: I'm used to.

  Speaker 4: Early started our basketball podcast around the time before conference
• 4:53
  Speaker 4: play starts in basketball, so it's a little bit later.

  Speaker 4: But that's okay. I'm not complaining. We'll be just fine.

  Speaker 4: Al Yeah, we had a a good year of college football. Actually,

  Speaker 4: I would say great year. The regular season is surest phenomenal,

  Speaker 4: and I do think the playoffs was, like I would
• 5:10
  Speaker 4: give it probably like a B for a letter grade, Like,
• 5:12
  Speaker 4: was it phenomenal?

  Speaker 1: No.

  Speaker 4: Was there quite a few blowouts, yes, But overall I
• 5:16
  Speaker 4: think we had it was it was a good playoffs.

  Speaker 4: I heard some people saying that they thought that the
• 5:21
  Speaker 4: Texas ASU gave was probably the game of the playoffs
• 5:23
  Speaker 4: that I would probably agree that was up there. But
• 5:26
  Speaker 4: even Notre Dame game was really good, too good for
• 5:31
  Speaker 4: you could yeah you could argue that as well. So
• 5:32
  Speaker 4: I really do think it was a good tournament. You
• 5:34
  Speaker 4: got to see NOE of the big guys opted out,
• 5:38
  Speaker 4: like there's no stars like that, I'll pass, you know.
• 5:41
  Speaker 4: So you got to see the so a lot of
• 5:43
  Speaker 4: few TRAFL guys playing on Sunday's play and it was
• 5:47
  Speaker 4: just it was a good tournament. Obviously, the SEC didn't win.

  Speaker 4: I don't think that would be a regular thing. I
• 5:53
  Speaker 4: would expect the SEC team to win it next year possibly,
• 5:55
  Speaker 4: but yeah, I just thought it was a fun tournament.

  Speaker 4: It was good. You might figure out the seeding parts
• 5:59
  Speaker 4: a little little bit later, but even so, like we're
• 6:03
  Speaker 4: I can't wait for next year. And again I think
• 6:05
  Speaker 4: with the cool thing is I've said last few podcast

  Speaker 4: is is I really think that we could have four

  Speaker 4: or five new teams next year, and I think that's
• 6:13
  Speaker 4: what's gonna make that tournament more fun. Obviously, compare tournament

  Speaker 4: for tournament, nothing matches March Madness. But again, what that

  Speaker 4: says because you get unknown's and you get teams that's
• 6:24
  Speaker 4: surprising the tournament, and I think college football is going
• 6:26
  Speaker 4: to have that. It's only gonna be better.

  Speaker 2: Yeah.

  Speaker 4: I think if the regular if the if the next

  Speaker 4: month of college basketball before we get into March is
• 6:37
  Speaker 4: they were close to the regular season we had for
• 6:38
  Speaker 4: college football. We're in for a.

  Speaker 2: Hell of a college basketball season.

  Speaker 4: We really did get spoiled for college basketball, and I
• 6:44
  Speaker 4: like how it ended, and I'll get to go to

  Speaker 4: another great sport which is off to a good start

  Speaker 4: as well, and it makes this time to you're fun

  Speaker 4: for us, man, But yeah, hey, we'll be we'll be

  Speaker 4: talking about our brackets like six weeks, which is kind

  Speaker 4: of crazy to think about.

  Speaker 1: Man. Yeah, it really is, man, it really is. It

  Speaker 1: was a great year though that November I can't remember

  Speaker 1: that many games in that five week stretch counting that much.

  Speaker 1: It was just ridiculous. And I think people kind of

  Speaker 1: forgot about that. A lot of complaining about certain things

  Speaker 1: when it comes to it, and I get it to

  Speaker 1: an extent, but let's not forget how great that, right.

  Speaker 2: I mean, in the.

  Speaker 1: Last twenty years, there's only what seven that was about

  Speaker 1: the only one we could come up with where it

  Speaker 1: was like, yeah, that was that was about the best

  Speaker 1: regular season. And it will be interesting to see. I

  Speaker 1: don't know if there's gonna be half the field six

  Speaker 1: out of twelve, but I know what you're saying as

  Speaker 1: far as a new team pop in Indiana is probably

  Speaker 1: gonna come back. Who else you know, will Iowa or

  Speaker 1: That's what I thought. Okay, so uh all right man,

  Speaker 1: I'm all smiles over here. All right, So just real

  Speaker 1: quick from last week Tuesday night, you know, Mississippi State
• 8:35
  Speaker 1: and Tennessee. That was a pretty damn good game. Tennessee

  Speaker 1: stretched out on them, Marquette got a nice road win.

  Speaker 1: Ohio State beat Perdue at Purdue seventy three seventy I
• 8:46
  Speaker 1: thought that was a really big winkla, good old fashioned Klea.

  Speaker 1: Ucla upset Wisconsin eighty five eighty three. Anytime Wisconsin loses
• 8:55
  Speaker 1: in anything, I think that's a good good win. Butler

  Speaker 1: in overtime, that was a pretty interesting game there. Missoo's

  Speaker 1: looking pretty good this year. They got beat by Texas

  Speaker 1: so yeah, I mean that night was a pretty eventful night.

  Speaker 1: Even West Virginia, who had newly been ranked, got beat
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: by Arizona State.

  Speaker 2: They got beat at home, which was kind of a

  Speaker 2: surprise there.

  Speaker 1: You had on Wednesday, you had Texas A and m
• 9:25
  Speaker 1: sneaking by Old Miss sixty three to sixty two. That

  Speaker 1: Savior Saint John's game was really good. Uh, Xavier ended up,

  Speaker 1: you know, taking care of business.

  Speaker 4: In overtime.

  Speaker 1: Florida, who seems to be back this year, previously ranked

  Speaker 1: South Carolina, they beat them by a point. That was

  Speaker 1: a pretty big, uh you know, pretty big thing there. Maryland,

  Speaker 1: out of nowhere on Thursday just whooped Illinois ninety one

  Speaker 1: to seventy. I know they had someone injured there on

  Speaker 1: that Wichno State Memphis game was the good big surprise

  Speaker 1: here on Friday night, Perdue, not that they won, but

  Speaker 1: crazy as far as the week before we head into

  Speaker 1: Auburn getting a big win over Tennessee at home, you know,

  Speaker 1: from the weekend.

  Speaker 4: Yeah, that that really was a good handful of days

  Speaker 4: that you spoke of. From Tuesday the last Friday. Obviously,

  Speaker 4: you'll see on Tuesday Alabama scored one hundred and three points.

  Speaker 4: They lead the nation end points. So if you were

  Speaker 4: someone who enjoyed the Alabama didn't win a title this year,

  Speaker 4: didn't make collefortball playoff their football, their basketball team is

  Speaker 4: gonna be very good this year. So if you're a

  Speaker 4: role ted hater, you're gonna have to work hunder hating

  Speaker 4: because their team is good. Not say they're gonna win

  Speaker 4: a title this year, but they'll definitely be a team

  Speaker 4: that could be considered to fight for it with the

  Speaker 4: SEC having the year that they're having and uh as

  Speaker 4: usual Marquette. Actually, I think every damn year Chris Dow

  Speaker 4: Like every year, they're just there and just nothing changes. Now,

  Speaker 4: they haven't made a deep tournament run with Shaka, but

  Speaker 4: So every year I always kind of adopt a team.

  Speaker 4: I fell in love early with West Virginia this year.

  Speaker 4: I love that Javon Small, one of their guards. They

  Speaker 4: had a fun where it was like it was the

  Speaker 4: bad Boys bowlers like Atlanta's tournament. They want me some money.

  Speaker 4: I'm all in on West Virginia this year. But every

  Speaker 4: freaking time, for like the past four years, I adopt

  Speaker 4: a team and I say, hey, they're gonna make it

  Speaker 4: to the Sweet sixteen. Every year they either play like
• 11:45
  Speaker 4: a team I love, or that a guy gets hurt,

  Speaker 4: or they go on a nose that even March. So

  Speaker 4: I'm not doing that, Chris. But so West Virginia is

  Speaker 4: my adopted team, but I'm not making any March Madness promises.

  Speaker 4: I'm gonna try to under verse the jinks or whatever.

  Speaker 4: miraculous turnaround for a team that was literally getting ran

  Speaker 4: up that Jim religiously for close to three years in

  Speaker 4: a row. You're now raked and you're eight one in conference.

  Speaker 4: Hats off to the job that they've done. Now, Yes,

  Speaker 4: the transfer portal is the thing, Yes, you move guys around,

  Speaker 4: but I mean they were getting slacked for a couple

  Speaker 4: of years. So I just I'm not a Louisville family.

  Speaker 4: I'm just like, that's just remarkable, Chris, because for the

  Speaker 4: past half four years be doing the show, they've been

  Speaker 4: bottom tier of the a SEC. It's not even been close.

  Speaker 4: So hats off to whoever. That turnaround they've done is remarkable.

  Speaker 1: lacking on campus in the dorms, you know. Yeah, and

  Speaker 1: now I think now that players are getting paid, they

  Speaker 1: so they brought the entertainment back and it feels like

  Speaker 4: of Hubert Davis just because like obviously, replacing Roy is

  Speaker 4: of Carolina faithful wants him gone.

  Speaker 4: think people thought that he inherited a good squad, which

  Speaker 4: he with Roy. Yeah, but just last handful of yours

  Speaker 4: spit his recruits, not the best, his eight game strategy, subby.

  Speaker 4: But I really feel that the fan base, which is

  Speaker 4: obviously is a pretty loyal They are definitely a blue blood.

  Speaker 4: And I'm biased because I love the team, but I

  Speaker 4: do feel that about eight out of ten Carolina fans

  Speaker 4: are just fed up with him, and they think, hey,

  Speaker 4: you had you had a chance, you had some good

  Speaker 4: teams that Roy left you, but man, they want him gone.

  Speaker 4: And I've you know, Cary, Caroline is probably one of
• 15:21
  Speaker 4: those teams that just you have a coach to the

  Speaker 4: coach there for quite a long time. So it's kind

  Speaker 4: of weird to see a team I love to just say, hey,

  Speaker 4: dude's got to go. But if you miss tournament this year,

  Speaker 4: that might be enough to make him go, because that's

  Speaker 4: something that I mean, it does happen, but not too often.

  Speaker 4: So just kind of a weird, weird mindset for my

  Speaker 4: targeels this year because probably that's not the base that

  Speaker 4: they have too often.

  Speaker 1: This is usually about the time they're getting their defense

  Speaker 1: together and making a run.

  Speaker 4: Yeah literally, yes, literally, you're correct. Hey, you'r go first ship.

  Speaker 4: They're on a heater, they've won three games in a row,
• 15:52
  Speaker 4: and they'd beat two ranked teams.

  Speaker 1: I was gonna say, we might not make forget the

  Speaker 1: big tournament, we may not make the Big ten tournament.

  Speaker 1: You know, it's so big now there's a cutoff. Oh,

  Speaker 1: you're right, just like the Big East Member when they.

  Speaker 2: Used to have a cutoff.

  Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah yeah, so yeah, the bottom three don't go,

  Speaker 1: I think. So. Yeah, we got out of the cellar,

  Speaker 1: so that felt good. But you're right. It is one

  Speaker 1: of those things when you look back at though, there's

  Speaker 1: gonna be a couple of games you're like, god, dang it,

  Speaker 1: if they could have just could have, should have would have. Sure,

  Speaker 1: But yeah, you're right. Back to back wins won in

  Speaker 1: dramatic fashion just in well, three wins in a row

  Speaker 1: and to you know, ranked and all that, but people

  Speaker 1: aren't trying to hear that just yet. Tennessee and Auburn

  Speaker 1: was a grin. It's funny because it's either gonna be
• 16:39
  Speaker 1: a grind out game in the SEC or they're both
• 16:42
  Speaker 1: gonna get other points. You know that, that's what it's like.

  Speaker 2: But fifty this was a grind out. Fifty three to
• 16:48
  Speaker 2: fifty one.

  Speaker 1: Auburn, who was who is the number one team, pushed

  Speaker 1: away Tennessee just enough. I mean that, like I said,

  Speaker 1: that was a freaking grind and you're especially in the

  Speaker 1: first half like twenty two to twenty. Then it was

  Speaker 1: thirty one to thirty one, so they did pick it

  Speaker 1: up a little bit, but that that three pointer with
