- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from my studio because it's freezing
- 0:32cold again and I'm not out there in the dark, cold chicken coop
- 0:37right this moment. They're not even awake yet.
- 0:39So today we're talking about something called the Goldilocks
- 0:43effect. So what is the Goldilocks
- 0:45effect? Can you even imagine what it
- 0:47could be? Well, what it comes down to is
- 0:49this. Do you remember the story of
- 0:50Goldilocks and three bears? And she goes in and she's eating
- 0:53the porridge, and this one's too cold and this one's too hot, and
- 0:56this one's just right. Well, human beings love to
- 1:00entertain 3 choices. And that's why when you go on
- 1:03most websites, there are three choices and there's always one
- 1:07that's highlighted and it's always in the middle and it's
- 1:09sticking out. There is a science behind this,
- 1:12and the science is that it's the Goldilocks effect.
- 1:15Most people are going to pick and choose the one that is smack
- 1:20in the middle because it's labeled that way.
- 1:22The most common, the most comfortable, the one most people
- 1:25choose. And because of how we're wired
- 1:27to follow what other people do, and that is not an accident.
- 1:31Most of us are wired to do that. Well, all of us are wired to do
- 1:36it. Most of us choose to stay within
- 1:39that frame unconsciously until we point it out.
- 1:42And then you go, oh, I don't want to just be like that.
- 1:45And then we move beyond it and, and get past it, put it behind
- 1:49us. But the, but the reality is,
- 1:51unless you know it, you don't do it.
- 1:53So that's why we're talking about this today because if you
- 1:56don't realize that you have this effect going on in your head,
- 2:00you will just constantly be like Goldilocks and pick the one
- 2:03that's quote UN quote, just right in the middle.
- 2:06And there is something to be said for the awareness of it and
- 2:10being able to choose when you know.
- 2:13So this shows up pretty much everywhere in your life and when
- 2:18you start to notice how it affects you across the board,
- 2:21not just going to a website and buying.
- 2:23I mean, if you, if you're a regular listener and I, I talked
- 2:26about the jump rope thing when I went onto that website, I can
- 2:29promise you I chose the one that was right in the middle because
- 2:32I am I going to use both the jump ropes that it came with
- 2:36maybe, but I don't know. But it was the one in the middle
- 2:38and it made the most sense. So I was like, OK, I'm going to
- 2:41do that. Why did it make the most sense?
- 2:43Because I'm wired for that and it's something new.
- 2:46I'm going into uncharted territory doing this, and if
- 2:50it's like, OK, I'll go right where they tell me to go, Isn't
- 2:53that interesting? They're telling me what my
- 2:55experience should be instead of me pausing.
- 2:58Now, did I actually pause because I'm aware of the
- 3:00Goldilocks effect? Yes.
- 3:02Do I have intentions of using the second rope, which is much
- 3:06better in the sense for doing tricks?
- 3:08Yes. Will I get there?
- 3:10Remains to be seen. So far so good.
- 3:12But I chose it based on a future version of myself, which is
- 3:18quite helpful when you start thinking about it, these things,
- 3:21and This is why we're talking about it, You have to look from
- 3:24a future version of yourself because you know you're working
- 3:28on being committed to get to that version.
- 3:30So I'm making choices based on the person who's going to be
- 3:34able to really skip rope in a short period of time.
- 3:39So in the normal day world, how does this affect you?
- 3:44Well, it, it, it's constantly running behind the scenes unless
- 3:48you're calling it out. So you have to ask yourself, am
- 3:51I choosing the one that I really want or am I choosing the one
- 3:54that I'm programmed to choose? That is the real question.
- 3:58And the programming will Simply put you in the middle.
- 4:01The programming will keep you in the middle.
- 4:04Everything is designed to keep you in the middle because the
- 4:07middle is safe. When you think about herds in
- 4:10Africa as they're moving across, like if you think about gazelle
- 4:14or you think about all those big herds that run across the plains
- 4:19in Africa, the animals that are on the edge are the ones that
- 4:23are in the most danger. That's why they all group
- 4:25together and we watch it and we think it's Stampede.
- 4:28They're running over each other. This is the stupidest thing I've
- 4:30ever seen. However, when you understand the
- 4:33psychology of it, the middle is safe because the lions are not
- 4:37going to come for the middle. They're coming for the edge.
- 4:40They're coming for the ones that are lagging behind, the ones
- 4:42that are weak, the ones that are in peril.
- 4:45They're not coming for the middle.
- 4:47So that's part of the hard wiring in our head.
- 4:49We like to think we're beyond that as humans, but we're not.
- 4:53We're not at all. And we will do it every single
- 4:55time unless we're aware of it. Now, I'm not saying you don't
- 4:59choose the middle because I chose the middle when I bought
- 5:01the jump ropes. What I'm saying is be aware of
- 5:04the Goldilocks effect, look at it and say, do I want to be in
- 5:08the middle? Am I consciously choosing to be
- 5:10in the middle now? Why the middle was so appealing
- 5:12this time for me and I thought about it, I could get different,
- 5:17even another different jump rope.
- 5:18I didn't. What I said was no, this is as
- 5:20advanced as I will want to go with this.
- 5:22I'm not going to become some jump Roper on Instagram.
- 5:26I don't need the other one. That's not part of my goal.
- 5:29It was conscious and I like the fact that they laid it out that
- 5:33way, but I did it consciously and that's what this is all
- 5:36about today. So go make sure you're not
- 5:39living like Goldilocks unconsciously.
- 5:42And if it works, you choose it. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:45you have a blessed day and I will see you soon.
- 5:47Bye.
