- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome to this week's edition of Cheesy Popcorn.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Chris Miles, I'm sure to catch out my other podcast here on the Rise Networks called New I'm Music Grow, and my co-host.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: And of our, and my podcast, which is, uh, can I call you dad with my son Andrew?
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: And we are awaiting anxiously the final episode of season two, which was a, uh, challenge, uh, pickleball challenge that was made by Andrew to me.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to want to watch that.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: was a lot of fun.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: You'll be able to catch that on YouTube probably in the next couple of weeks or I think we're still doing like the finalizing of the editing and stuff like that.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: However, this is very visual.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Very visual.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: somebody looked like a new palupa, but we'll leave that alone.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, however this episode is ready to go locked and loaded.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: So let's jump right into it.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Cut, we've had a week off of reviewing an actual movie that came out that week.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was whether related.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, exactly.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: But we got a chance to go see nobody, too.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: Finally, too, yeah.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I was pleasantly surprised.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to be honest with you straight out.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: I could battle.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: I did not see nobody one.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I decided to go into a blind.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I decided to not know the backstory and things of that nature.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad that I did.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how we would have felt about the movie.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: If I would have had some other like backstory substance to it.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: But the movie was great.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: It takes place in Wisconsin, not too much of a spoiler alert there.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it does, it does involve a family vacation and a particular gentleman who was played by Mr. Oden Kirk himself.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm a little concerned.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: Who is actually not all he appears to be?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's really not a nobody.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: No, Anna's surprise.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to spoil it.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: Is it surprise?
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: Big name actress in this movie that I was shocked and I didn't even know until the credits.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Almost.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Who said you did, but I didn't.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, as soon as she came out of the screen, I knew who she was.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was reminded.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: She reminded me of some of the stuff that she did in another movie that she was in.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: And if I give the movie away, then people are going to know she is.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we're going to keep it under wraps.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but as soon as she came out of the screen, I was like, oh, yeah, that's who I thought it was.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, absolutely great movie.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like I said, I came into it with no expectations whatsoever and being a fan of like James Bond films and secret agent films and things of that nature.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: I was surprised.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: I was very pleasantly surprised.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody to actually a great flick.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: I would watch it again.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Probably a few times, just because I'm sure there's a couple things I missed.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: Great action sequences.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Tom Hanksson is in it as well.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're a fan of him, if you caught him in, he was in an app, not episode.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: He was in a series of Dexter, a season of Dexter as like the bad guy.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he, you know, he's got that baby face, but he plays a bad guy really well.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he does.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like opposite of his dad, you know?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm I'm going to give it a solid eight and a half out of ten because I think it was I think it was that great It like I said it was very enjoyable, but again like I said I came in under the radar with it I had no expectations of it I didn't catch too any continuity errors the actions seem to move fairly fairly fast I don't feel like there was a slow point in the movie
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not at least tonight.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: No, not really.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, overall, I thought it was a great flick.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Great pick and I'm looking forward to finally seeing nobody won.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody won.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: You're going backwards.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's okay.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, it's okay.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's okay.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: So, first of all, I was the first time the Chris and I went to go see a movie together.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_02]: We saw they could gun with a group.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: But, this was the first time we've done together.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: Normally, it goes when Andrew, to movies, first time he's asked me to go.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: So, I was really, it was like going on a prom date, which was really nice.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Except to kept the dress on.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: I did.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: I did see one, so I knew what to expect from the caricature.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought, you know, it's weird.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: I see it as kind of a black comedy, because there's some, I mean, the action scenes are really good.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think in two, some of it was a little over the top.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: For me, if you watch one, you'll know what I mean.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: They kind of like, they did one and got away with a bunch of stuff and then they did two and said, we can do even more.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: And they did.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so there's some scenes that are, if you're not a big fan of amazing special effects, then this movie is not going to really be for you because the action scene, special effects are really
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: out there over the top.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'd probably give it an eight and a half as well.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was a great.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought it was, I thought the writing was good.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: Bob has does a great job as a, you know, this low-key guy who has all these abilities that nobody knows about.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: There were some surprises in there with his wife, which I thought were really cool.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: Again, the actors that played the bad, bad person
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't a huge role, but it was enough.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: She really wasn't in the movie a whole lot, but where she was, she was, she made an impact.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: I love that, and I don't want to give this one.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: I love that at the end, they're continuing a trend at the end that they started in the first one.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: And when you see the first one, you know what I'm talking about.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: I won't give it away because I don't want to spoil it.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought it was really good.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was fast-paced, kept your attention.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe stop eating popcorn at least four or five times, which I think is a good sign of an action movie.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm eating popcorn on a regular basis throughout the movie, it's probably not a whole lot of action.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of very grotesque scenes, though.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I mean by all this time.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: You have to keep keep the little ones away from it.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think it is rated R site.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't go see it anyways.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is the eighteen and over for sure.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's not rated R, it should be because some of the.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a thirteen.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: If they rated a thirteen, the minimum stake.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think I don't think it's.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: And if they set it up for the next one, too, by the way, at the end.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see what happens.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: So all at all, a great review from both of us, definitely go check it out.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: And the weird thing was that the theater was empty.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that that's been out for a little bit, but we were like, what maybe two of eight in this big mess that we could sit wherever we wanted to.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is just a surprise.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: It is rated our, um, and it, uh, it's for graphic violence.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: For graphic violence, there's, there's a lot of swear words in it though, too.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: Not as much of the it's not as much as the graphic violence.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, for sure.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you saw the Kingsman.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God, I love that move.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: I know, but this takes it up a notch.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it does.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: It totally does.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're a fan of the Kingsman, you'll like this or knives out knives out those those are great.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: All on that same genre, all on that same kind of, yeah, speel, I guess we'll call it.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: But again, comedy.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: Action comedy, I would call it.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: Action comedy.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can agree with you on that one.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: There's some good moments.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you had Christopher Lloyd to anything.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, you're gonna laugh for smile.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: And you just can't not.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: That happened.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know, at some point, you think of Jim Ignatowski.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't feel, I didn't feel the gym in a Towsky in this one.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: I felt a little bit of dark brown.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: Just a small little bitch.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, everything I see, Chris, and I love Christopher Lloyd.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a fabulous act.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen him in a lot of things that weren't gym, Igna Towsky rolls, but he's just to Igna Towsky.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can see about it.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what was his catchphrase?
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it was a catchphrase.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was a laugh.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was something like that.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, but not he was plays a good role here.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: There's a good role.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, moving on.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: Coming out in theaters, this tomorrow actually Friday caught stealing.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: That looks good.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Which looks good.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's Austin.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: But I've seen too many previews of it from like being in the movie theater for the last couple of weeks.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that I'm kind of like that for me is going to be a way till it comes to video because I don't know.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: It just it seems very simple.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a dude who is asked by a friend of his to watch some things and then he gets stuck into this whole crime and then watches cat.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then he, yeah, his cat.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it was.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then he just, he becomes like this badass.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to fight all these mobster guys.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: And like, it feels just like they, it feels like they took an action movie and just took like the, the different mobs, like the Japanese mob, the Chinese mob, the Italian mob, and then the Irish mob, and just threw them all into a thing.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: It was just in the acidic juice.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the acidic juice.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's the other thing too.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: To me, and I just kind of go, and I'm going to wait till it comes out on video.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was just they're trying to get a breakout role for Austin after Elvis.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's a tough role to shake when you play Elvis and he did it so well.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a hard role to break out of.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what they're trying to do to try to go like a hundred and eighty degrees the other way with him.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it could work.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: It could work.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Perhaps.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but looking at the list of people where I leave Shriver is in it.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: He plays one of the acidic juice.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: I can give him much weight because that was in the previous Zoe craves is in it.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, and then bad bunnies in it.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, it just seems similar to like, they just threw people in here just to do things.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe, right.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just, there's just trying to get him away from the Elvis persona so that he could do other things.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you're right and he looks too much like an Elvis.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: He did a phenomenal job as Elvis.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, it was great.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know to me.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's just kind of like I'm going to pass on it.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Another one that I know to pass on is well, too, is the toxic Avenger, which comes out this weekend.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the reason why because the original
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: from like the eighties was so it's so much an occult film that how do you do it again that's like saying hey we're going to redo the clockwork orange you just you don't do that no Elijah Woods in it let's see who a peter dinkler who I love Taylor pages in as well Kevin Bacon's in it too so it's got some some names but I mean
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's about a guy who gets like toxic waste spilled out.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna turn into like a superhero kind of thing and I don't know.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it once.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to see it again.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: But but but they've added bacon anytime you add bacon to something
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Chris Van much better.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't think that's going to be the case in this one.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: However, okay.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: What I do think is going to be a great movie this coming out this weekend.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: The roses.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, which as we have in a conversation about we actually figured out that this is a continuation of a movie you included.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: And top comedy.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Top comedy.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: The war of the rose.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: Or the roses.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Douglas, Kathleen Turner.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: So we think that we have made a prediction.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, actually, I didn't.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: You did.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: You made a prediction that you think Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas are going to make a camera.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: I see it.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: I see it.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: I see it.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the end of the video, too.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he's directing.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know who's directing.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's directing war.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: The real is not directing the film.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: But they may make a cameo because the whole J. Roe movie was really three people.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: J. Roeches directing the film.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not him.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: Thought the same screenwriter is the other one before either.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a whole new team on this.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: A different story.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: It is a continuation that the legacy of Barbara and Oliver Rose is passed down to their children, basically.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess that's kind of what happens.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: However, this does look like it's going to be entertaining.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: I am a huge fan of Benedict Cumberpatch who is in the movie.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Love him.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: Love him a lot.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not just for his English action, although I know the ladies love him for his English accent.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Olivia Coleman's in it.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Andy Sandberg's in it.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: So it's got so he chows in it so it's got some got some decent actors and it'd be good I think I think it's I don't know if it's gonna be as good as the original, but I think it's gonna be good Might be another movie where my wife doesn't want to sit next to me because I'm laughing so hard We'll see it is rated R so kids you're not gonna be able to see it unless you get a fake, but no, I didn't say that
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, nobody too, you know, referring to my wife and my good friend Donna, was definitely Jesus Christ.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, movie.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I don't think I don't I don't see I haven't haven't spent enough time with Doris to know whether or not she really likes action movies So I don't know if this is gonna be Doris approved or not.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she's she doesn't mind action like she Watch taken Okay, she was like glued to taken okay, but now she won't watch it.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: She's just like But she was glued to it.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_02]: She's much more of a homework girl
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, she's a homework.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: Ram comes.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I got it.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: One of her favorite movies is twenty seven dresses with Catherine High Go.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: A ugly truth with Catherine High Go.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: Those kind of movies.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: I like those too.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: I watch, I've watched leap year with Amy Adams like seven times.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's kind of like the new quiet man to me.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: So right around saying Patrick's day, we try to get leap here and watch leap here, because I really think maybe they didn't think this through that like, this is really what they wanted to do.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: But it appears to be a new version of quiet man to me.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: And the scenery is gorgeous.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: The Irish scenery is beautiful.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Irish countryside is always beautiful.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: They can't go wrong with that.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, God knows you can.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's just as beautiful as well, too.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I like it too.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, there you go.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Has it gone there, eh?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're in a green so we're going to go see that we'll review that maybe next Tuesday maybe we'll see a Monday because you know that's a holiday
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Monday, Labor Day.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Labor Day shout out to all the pregnant women.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: Labor Day indeed.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Joss also comes back to the theaters and like a rerelease.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's like what the forty-fifth anniversary.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Fifty-fifth anniversary.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: So if I go see it, I'd go see Joss and the theater.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: I would too, but I don't think we need to review it because, you know, no, we don't need to review it, but I'd go see it.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: I go see it.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to see it on the big screen.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: I never got a chance to see it on the big screen because it came out when I was way too young.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I would love to see it on the big screen.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't great on the big screen.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was a great amusement for a while at Universal Orlando.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not Orlando Hollywood Studios.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the cinematography in that is really ahead of itself.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's Spielberg.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was like one of the first one of it.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, new on the scene at that point.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I think closing cards of the third kind was the only other movie you did at the time.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: And what's the catch line from Jaws?
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we need a bigger boat.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to need a bigger boat.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of bigger boats, science fiction movies is the topic of conversation for today.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: Again, there are just two choices here.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: We got a runner up and we've got a favorite of all time.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'll go first with my runner up.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because back to the future is not going to be on my list for this.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: It is one of my favorite movies of all time.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's my top five.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm not going to pick it for science fiction because I think there's a couple other movies that really epitomize science fiction a whole lot better.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: So my runner up is actually a film called pitch black.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: which I think is absolutely amazing.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Great movie.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Vin Diesel pretty much no name at the point and came on to the scene.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: The Chronicles are really came because of that.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, I think pitch black is that I think that's a sci-fi horror as you can get without being graphic.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I absolutely love it.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's why it's my runner up.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's why if you haven't seen it, go see it, rent it, stream it, whatever.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to love it.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not a fan of jump scares, I'll warn you about that because there are quite a few.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of dark scenes.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, a whole theater goes pitch black.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Do all because it's pitch black.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: It takes place during, uh, uh, I don't think it's a solar eclipse, but it's definitely in a clip.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, and then, you know, the things that go bump in the night are out.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: And Vin Diesel was a perfect.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, absolutely.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: He was scary to McDonald's.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: He said that you had to McDonald's and he walks in.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: You are going to pee a little bit.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think I paid myself.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: So my runner-up would be there's so many sci-fi but I think my runner-up sci-fi is gonna be total recall
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think that was a really well done movie.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like everything he's done, but I really liked him in total recall.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: So the whole movie was just really well done.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: So to be specific, you're talking the Arnold Schwarzenegger version, not the remake, about a couple of years ago.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, not the remake.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: So that's funny because that was actually, that and the running man were also in my, do I want to put them in the runner-up camera with Arnold?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Arnold.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: No, not the new one that's coming out with the guy from Twister.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: I can ever remember his name, but we know somebody that's absolutely good too.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go see that.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: See.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, here's my problem with that.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like the guy that's cast it as the game show host.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's a game show host.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: I just he just doesn't do it for me and like Richard Dawson I know I know but like the the the the and the and the other thing is in the preview so far they haven't given me the having given me the line that I think makes that movie and maybe it was because Richard came up with it on his own or whatever but to me he's like who it is and who do you love and I know I just messed it up.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's not what it is but that line was oh man that
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: He plays such a sinister.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the guy who kisses everybody on family feud comes out as the host of this game show running the running man and he is like Yeah, so dark.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: But perfectly cast.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you were at some point we're going to talk about miscast characters.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was not one of them.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: No, absolutely.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Him and Arnold were crass beautiful.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, okay.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: I can say that.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: So total we call for you.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's my second.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're real runner up right.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I love the scene where I think he goes to Mars and he's dressed up as that woman with the bald head.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then he like does he turn his ear or something?
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's just something.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: And all of a sudden like the whole costume just
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, I was like, oh my god, that was like so transformers for me at the time.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I mean.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it was incredibly awesome.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: And the remake of Total Recall, just to me, it was a dud.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it was when I have to see it.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Don't waste your time.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was bad.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: The nice thing about Total Recall, the original to me, was that there was a really good storyline with special effects.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't a million special effects.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a little bit of story line.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: It really was a great story line.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is one of those science fiction movies for me where I think that the story was, was, was the star was the star of the thing.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the special effects just kind of add it to it as well.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, all right, absolutely.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then my greatest science fiction movie of all time, because it's got one of the greatest lines in any movie ever as far as I'm concerned.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that line is game over, man.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and just, man, aliens is like the greatest science fiction movie of all that aliens.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: The aliens, the sequel, or the second, the second coming, whatever you want.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one where she gets in the big robotic fork lift thing.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: And she goes toe to toe with the mama alien, which is pretty much the first time that you really see like the whole body of the alien.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's also the first time you got to see any of the baby aliens.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember the original alien that much, but I think it was also the first time that you saw the face suckers.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're called something else, but I mean, it just, to me, the first time I saw aliens, it was the same situation like I've described before, where my cousins, they had cable growing up and they would throw three movies on a VHS tape for us and Christmas and New Christmas in your birthday, you were guaranteed a video tape that had three movies on it and aliens was on it and I fell in love with the bishop.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: the the robot just oh man the casting is great John Hicks with the greatest line like I said you gave over man I think he's no longer with us so he rest in pieces well but I just great action great science fiction moments that when the eggs open and you know that face sucker thing comes out you're just like oh man and not a
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: really honestly not a dull movement moment in that movie at all.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: And of course it takes place like on an alien planet.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Who's the guy?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: The guy from Matt about you plays the Paul Reiser and Paul Reiser.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't think of his last time.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking Paul Rudd.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: But Paul Reiser has another guy that played opposite his persona from Matt about you.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: Matt.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: He played a completely different guy and pulled it off beautifully.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: And great comic, by the way.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: From if you get a chance, look up Paul Ryzer stand up.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's funny as hell.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he is.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's very funny.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I, that's the, that's one of the things I like to do in my spare time.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like I have any of it is look up comics and like kind of watch their stand up and stuff like that.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: So all right, aliens is my pick for greatest science fiction movie of all time.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: What is yours?
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let me just preface my pick by saying, the only thing I didn't care about in aliens, the second one is when they're fighting, when she's in the machine, the murmlet, and they're fighting, and she comes out of the machine, and it's a door opens, and of course, you know, when you're in space, everything gets sucked out like if you're on a plane, and Sigoni Weaver is holding on to, like, one hand, which shorts, and a very flimsy pop.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: No, and I'm sitting in the theater going, and a minute.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: And he made it.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, really?
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: The alien got sucked out.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: The alien and the forklift machine got sucked out.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: But not one stitch of closing came off a cigar and he weaver.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't mean that that sound like perverted or anything.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: But you just would think realistically.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: a sock, something had to come off.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: And then so that's my one knock and otherwise the rest of movie's great.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: My number one movie and a preface is by telling a story.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: I want to go see this movie Doris and her sister and her brother-in-law and me went to the show.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: They went to go see I think a Richard gear movie.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: we went to go see a sci-fi movie now there's there's an original of this set way back in the day with of all people Leslie Nielsen in it and this was a this was a remake years fifty years later and my brother-in-law went into see if we were excited and we're sitting there and about
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe ten, ten to fifteen minutes into the movie.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: We look at each other like, this ain't shit.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: Really, seriously.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: And then something happened.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: And from that moment on, we were both.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: And we're grown as men on the edge of our seats, nonstop for the rest of the movie.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: The thing.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, John Carpenter.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the original had James Arnass and some other names back in the day.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: But the, and the scene is when when they put the, you know, starts with a helicopter chasing a dog in the snow.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: And we're like, this is really freaking boring.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: Is something going to happen?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a long time ago.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: The capture to dog in the dog is walking around the, and somebody says put the dog with the other dogs as they have slay dogs or sled dogs.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: And they put them in the cage with the other dogs or the kennel, not a cage.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: And the other dogs kind of started backing off and whimpering.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: And you're like, I'm still like, not in here.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then the dog's face opens up in four pieces.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when the alien comes out.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: And like I said, from that moment on, it is non-stop, edge of your seat.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: And the ending was phenomenon.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to give it away because if you haven't seen it, go to the library, get the thing.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: You actually get the first thing.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: And then get the second thing.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm talking about like in the thing.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: The thing.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: We're in the movie with Billy Crystal and Robert De Nero analyze this.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: You take care of the thing.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing in the second thing.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: You take the second thing.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: I take the second thing.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: Go see the first thing.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then the third thing.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: So first things a good movie for it's time.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's scary, too.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: It scared a lot of people in the theaters back in the early six.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's like, that's like telling somebody from my generation that Dracula from the thirties was scary.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: That was not scary at all.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: But when it came out, the new thing, I don't know, I don't know that there was a sci-fi movie that I was on the edge of my seat for the next first ten, fifteen minutes and then I had another, I don't know, hundred and twenty minutes of sitting on the edge of my seat.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: to the point where we looked at each other at the end of like holy shit.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like we were originally like holy shit and they were like holy shit.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, that's my, that's my, there's a lot of other sci-fi movies that are great.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: Terminator movies are great terminator two was great.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's obviously with the liquid guy and all that, that was awesome.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know, I just think the thing, and I think it still holds up.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think today it's got to be thirty years.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: It still holds up.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you watch that movie today, you still, you still get that adrenaline watching it from that moment.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: You gotta wait for that moment though, because it ain't nothing until then.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: Up until then, you're sitting there going with a bunch of guys in the Antarctic drinking coffee and a little dog running around.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: There was no big deal.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: But then it just, John Carpenter, man, he just nailed that one, I think.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that's mine.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: John Carpenter, a great screenplay writer as well, too.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: And excellent cabinet maker.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: But people don't feel that much.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so yeah, check out nobody, too.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Again, we got two great ratings, eight point five for both of us.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a decent movie.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Over the top.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll keep that in mind.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: Over.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're not talking about, so that's just alone.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: That is a terrible movie too.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: Anyone, not one of his best.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll review the roses next week.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we're going to keep the subject for next week a surprise because we want to, I think we want to keep this one under wraps.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll keep it a surprise.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: But again, you can only catch us here on the rise network.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: We're available on Spotify and Apple Music exclusively.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: You can also catch the podcast on YouTube, but it's available, but it's not in video form.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the podcast as well.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: Just audio.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, it's only right here on the rise network.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Chris Miles.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you next week.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, check out my show.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: New on music.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: Roach comes out every Friday and check out my show, which is, can I call you dad, which comes out pretty soon.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: When our last episode of this season, we are going to, we're anticipating doing season three.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think any, it hasn't been inked yet, but there's like, there's some talks.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: But again, if you want to know where the title came from, go to your library or look online and check out a movie called Easy Money with the fabulous Mr. Rodney Dangerfield Western piece.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you next week and hey, save us some popcorn, okay?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: cheesy popcorn.
