- 1:58Speaker 3: everything's good to go. Think we're okay this morning. We
- 2:01Speaker 3: appreciate you burying through this because anytime, you know, it's
- 2:04Speaker 3: not easy to relocate an entire radio studio, especially one
- 2:08Speaker 3: that hasn't been moved since probably the Woodrow Wilson administration.
- 2:12Speaker 3: So you know, sometimes you have some issues here and there,
- 2:14Speaker 3: but we are working our way through its. Coming up
- 2:18Speaker 3: on the show this morning, we're going to talk to
- 2:20Speaker 3: Rob Reel from her sister station ninety six to one KWS,
- 2:23Speaker 3: who's now our neighbor just down the hall from us.
- 2:25Speaker 3: As we're down sort of in the basement, I guess
- 2:28Speaker 3: here at eleven eleven, Rob Reel is going to be
- 2:32Speaker 3: walking from Charleston to Morgantown. Why is he walking? I
- 2:36Speaker 3: know we have a station vehicle, I've seen it. Why
- 2:38Speaker 3: is he walking? Well, let's raise money for WVU Children's
- 2:42Speaker 3: and I'll let Rob tell you the whole story and
- 2:43Speaker 3: what the heck made him think. You know what, this
- 2:45Speaker 3: is a good idea, let's walk to Morgantown from Charleston.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Now he's going to get into that, I think next week.
- 2:50Speaker 3: So we'll talk to Rob about that coming up a
- 2:52Speaker 3: little bit later on the show. Also, State Revenue Sery
- 2:55Speaker 3: Secretary Larry Pack will be stopping by the studio as well.

- 3:10Speaker 3: is an event going on this Saturday, and I think
- 3:13Speaker 3: our sister station of E one hundred is going to
- 3:15Speaker 3: be heavily involved in. It's called We Care West Virginia.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Anngie Settle from Health Right is helping organize it. She
- 3:21Speaker 3: is here. She joins us this morning in the Parmar
- 3:23Speaker 3: Store studio along with doctor Chris Stansbury of West Virginia.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I consultants walking to the show. Both of you, thank you,
- 3:29Speaker 3: and I don't need to I probably need to turn.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I think this is your mike. We're still learning as
- 3:33Speaker 3: we go. Speak for me again, Angie, Hello, there we go,
- 3:37Speaker 3: There we go, There we go. You were fine, Chris,
- 3:39Speaker 3: Angie was just a little bit low, okay, but we
- 3:41Speaker 3: got to take in care allay. So what exactly is
- 3:45Speaker 3: West Virginia Care Day? What exactly this whole thing about?
- 3:48Speaker 5: So since twenty sixteen, we have been involved in. Doctor
- 3:51Speaker 5: Stansbury has been great doctor Tom Tacubo as well, to
- 3:54Speaker 5: do a great event once a year. We've been doing
- 3:58Speaker 5: it at the Bible Center with Remote Area Medical Center,
- 4:02Speaker 5: but we've gotten so big that they even said this year, hey, guys,
- 4:06Speaker 5: I think you can do something on your own. So
- 4:08Speaker 5: it's a one day event where we do totally free medical, dental,
- 4:13Speaker 5: vision care. People will even get you know, we don't
- 4:16Speaker 5: have eyeglasses on site, but we'll be ordering out glasses
- 4:19Speaker 5: for everybody free of charge. But it's just an event
- 4:22Speaker 5: for people to come and get healthcare with no questions
- 4:25Speaker 5: to ask.
- 4:25Speaker 6: You know.
- 4:25Speaker 5: We know there's copays and deductibles and everything that stand
- 4:28Speaker 5: in the way, and this is a great event where
- 4:31Speaker 5: we have people, great volunteers like doctor Stansbaby. They're coming
- 4:34Speaker 5: in given of their time and just basically a day
- 4:38Speaker 5: where West Virginians help other West Virginians.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Understands we let's talk to you about this. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 3: why exactly are you involved in this? Well?
- 4:46Speaker 7: Coming out of the twenty sixteen flood, we saw tremendous
- 4:49Speaker 7: need in our part of the states and across the state.
- 4:52Speaker 7: Just the utter devastation that some people face, they lost
- 4:55Speaker 7: their dentures, they lost their glasses, they lost their medications,
- 4:58Speaker 7: they lost everything. And Angie had a great idea. She said,
- 5:01Speaker 7: let's set up a clinic where we can take care
- 5:03Speaker 7: of these people and really just you know, reach out
- 5:06Speaker 7: in the community and do whatever we can to help
- 5:07Speaker 7: in that hour of need. And what we found is
- 5:09Speaker 7: that that hour need never stopped. That those people are
- 5:12Speaker 7: out there, and there are people each and every year
- 5:15Speaker 7: that come into the clinic for the first time and
- 5:17Speaker 7: just say thank you so much. You know, I can't
- 5:18Speaker 7: afford me occasions. I can't afford to go out and
- 5:20Speaker 7: get a new pair of glasses. My glasses are eight
- 5:22Speaker 7: years old and they're falling apart. You know, whatever the
- 5:24Speaker 7: need may be, it's it's just an awesome opportunity to
- 5:28Speaker 7: reach out to those West Virginians in need. And there's
- 5:29Speaker 7: there's a lot.
- 5:30Speaker 8: Of folks out there that need it.
- 5:31Speaker 3: And you've been doing this, as you said, This kind
- 5:33Speaker 3: of came came about as part of the flood recovery
- 5:36Speaker 3: a few years ago. And I know for a fact
- 5:39Speaker 3: that this thing has been heavily, heavily it's in it
- 5:41Speaker 3: because there's no questions asked. I mean, you just show
- 5:43Speaker 3: up and you get and you get then you get services.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Give either one of you or maybe both of you.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Give me a success story. I mean not a name obviously,
- 5:50Speaker 3: but somebody, uh, just a situation where you able to
- 5:53Speaker 3: help somebody in the past.
- 5:54Speaker 5: He's got a great one where he diagnosed somebody with
- 5:57Speaker 5: a cancer. So go ahead and tell him.
- 5:59Speaker 7: Yeah, we have a gentleman come in who was just
- 6:01Speaker 7: looking for new glasses. He had no idea that he
- 6:04Speaker 7: had anything serious going on in the back of the eyes,
- 6:05Speaker 7: but when we took a look back there, we diagnosed
- 6:08Speaker 7: him with a rare form of cancer called coroidal melanoma,
- 6:12Speaker 7: and if left untreated, it can metastasize or spread places
- 6:16Speaker 7: like the liver, the lungs, and it can be fatal.
- 6:19Speaker 7: And so fortunately for this gentleman he came into the clinic,
- 6:21Speaker 7: we were able to get him referred out to one
- 6:22Speaker 7: of our local retina specialists who was able to treat
- 6:25Speaker 7: the cancer with a radioactive plaque, get that thing to
- 6:28Speaker 7: shrivel up and die, and thankfully save his life. And
- 6:31Speaker 7: he came back in a couple of years ago and
- 6:34Speaker 7: just expressed his gratitude and said, thank you so much.
- 6:36Speaker 7: You know, we just appreciate what y'all do here. So
- 6:38Speaker 7: just beautiful stories like that where people you know, don't
- 6:40Speaker 7: even know they have an issue, haven't been checked in
- 6:42Speaker 7: years and we're able to discover something serious, get it
- 6:45Speaker 7: taken care of and make a difference in there.
- 6:46Speaker 5: There was a family that came in actually I think
- 6:48Speaker 5: it was like six, six or eight. They had like
- 6:50Speaker 5: six kids, and seven of them left with glasses. Like
- 6:54Speaker 5: mom and six kids, they all left with glasses.
- 6:57Speaker 3: The lift with glasses that day, Yes, yes, with.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Its promoter and medical center, they did have an on
- 7:02Speaker 5: site like a mobile glass making machine. We haven't gotten
- 7:05Speaker 5: that high tech unless you can find somebody that wants
- 7:07Speaker 5: to donate, you know, like some money to us and
- 7:09Speaker 5: we can buy one of those. But we do have
- 7:11Speaker 5: a relationship with a group where we will actually order
- 7:15Speaker 5: those glasses. They'll come in and then we'll you know,
- 7:17Speaker 5: mail them to patients, have those patients pick them up
- 7:20Speaker 5: so they we'll get free glasses, but they just will
- 7:22Speaker 5: get them that day.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Talking again about this big event that's happening this weekend
- 7:25Speaker 3: with Chris Stansberry and Angie Saidtle of Health Right the
- 7:28Speaker 3: Day Island Show in five Itty Live broade to you
- 7:29Speaker 3: a part by Husband's Pizza this month is your favorite
- 7:32Speaker 3: Hustans get a large et n inch Pepperoni pizza and
- 7:34Speaker 3: an eight inch chocolate chip cookie only twenty three ninety nine.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Let's talk about the buy in from the community. We
- 7:39Speaker 3: know that the people that need the services guys show up,
- 7:42Speaker 3: but let's talk about the sponsors or people that get
- 7:46Speaker 3: involved or something like that, or just the community in
- 7:49Speaker 3: general hoping to spread the word.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I will tell you he couldn't be here today. He's
- 7:52Speaker 5: a busy guy. But can't say enough good about Doctor
- 7:55Speaker 5: Tom Tacubo. He has been with us every year. He's
- 7:59Speaker 5: our medical doctor, Michael Tuta, he's our dental lead for this.
- 8:04Speaker 5: And they're volunteers. These are regular volunteers at West Virginia
- 8:07Speaker 5: Health right and we have about one hundred and fifty
- 8:09Speaker 5: people signed up to volunteer this Saturday. Actually, you mentioned
- 8:16Speaker 5: Larry Pack. He and his wife are like presenting sponsors
- 8:19Speaker 5: for this event, high Marked Blue Cross, Blue Shield. We
- 8:22Speaker 5: have a whole list of sponsors, but those two are
- 8:24Speaker 5: the presenting sponsors high Mark Blue Cross, Blue Shield and
- 8:28Speaker 5: Larry and Lisa Pack so very supportive of our clinic.
- 8:32Speaker 5: We can't do what we do without having all of
- 8:34Speaker 5: our sponsors on board because they help, you know, cover
- 8:37Speaker 5: all the costs of this stuff. We're free and charitable clinics,
- 8:39Speaker 5: so there's a lot of costs involved.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Now, well, now we're Tuesday, guys, we're looking at this
- 8:43Speaker 3: event this weekend. It's people are listening right now. They say, well,
- 8:46Speaker 3: i'd like to get involved as far as a sponsorship
- 8:49Speaker 3: or I'd like to make a donation or something like that.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Can you do that at this point?
- 8:52Speaker 5: Sure, they can just call my office. It's three oh
- 8:55Speaker 5: four four one four five nine three one. That's directly
- 8:59Speaker 5: to my extent. We would love to have volunteers and
- 9:03Speaker 5: you know, donations is great, but as far as patients,
- 9:06Speaker 5: the doors will open at eight o'clock. You know, that's
- 9:09Speaker 5: one of the things that we change. We love Remoteary Medical,
- 9:11Speaker 5: but it was a real standard that they do these
- 9:14Speaker 5: across the board that you know, they would give tickets
- 9:16Speaker 5: out at like three am and doors would open at
- 9:18Speaker 5: six am, so you have people out, you know, really early.
- 9:21Speaker 5: So we're trying to tweak it a little bit, make
- 9:23Speaker 5: it a little more friendly in terms of hours, so
- 9:25Speaker 5: patients will come in at eight am and we'll go
- 9:29Speaker 5: through five pm. Next year it may be two days.
- 9:30Speaker 5: We went with one day. This year. We had to
- 9:32Speaker 5: pick our own name. So basically it's the same event
- 9:34Speaker 5: we've been doing every year, but it'll be at our
- 9:36Speaker 5: East End clinic because we've we've doubled the size of
- 9:39Speaker 5: it and we can do everything on site now, so in
- 9:42Speaker 5: extended services, so we have the full pharmacy there. We're
- 9:45Speaker 5: going to be doing you know, HIV, happetitus CEA, testing, vaccines,
- 9:49Speaker 5: the whole nine yards there.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So and what about volunteers, people just to help out?
- 9:54Speaker 3: I mean, because I would imagine with an event like this, Chris,
- 9:57Speaker 3: you got to have somebody to do. We do do
- 10:00Speaker 3: traffic control, yes, somebody to keep people in line and
- 10:03Speaker 3: that sort of thing. Do you need it? Because I'm thinking,
- 10:05Speaker 3: and I always bring this up because I know that
- 10:07Speaker 3: in order and I always bring this up to parents
- 10:09Speaker 3: and grandparents that in order to graduate, uh in public
- 10:12Speaker 3: school in West Virginia, you have to do so much
- 10:15Speaker 3: community service. I'm thinking this would be a great event
- 10:18Speaker 3: for for local high school kids to come, or church
- 10:21Speaker 3: groups or or or civic organizations, your rotaries kowanas whatever.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Do you still need people like, they.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Can call me. But it's also good to we care
- 10:28Speaker 5: West Virginia. I think it's dot org. It could be
- 10:32Speaker 5: dot com.
- 10:33Speaker 3: We'll try one or the other, one or the other.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I've actually got the graphic posted on my social media
- 10:38Speaker 3: and Dave alland radio, so it may be on there,
- 10:40Speaker 3: but on.
- 10:41Speaker 5: The other volunteers, it's gonna and what's fun, we try
- 10:43Speaker 5: to make it. You know, it's w homecoming day, so
- 10:46Speaker 5: we've got like a little tailgate behind the scenes theme
- 10:49Speaker 5: for volunteers to feed our you know, volunteers have a
- 10:52Speaker 5: big screen with pregame pregame stuff if you're like my boys,
- 10:55Speaker 5: a pregame all day.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, because the games at night, right, Yeah, but.
- 10:59Speaker 5: We're gonna feed people well, you know, like wings and
- 11:01Speaker 5: stuff and oh yeah, you know, do whatever it is
- 11:03Speaker 5: you do on game day.
- 11:04Speaker 3: All right, give us all the details again, the winds
- 11:06Speaker 3: and the wares and the hours and everything started to
- 11:08Speaker 3: take from.
- 11:08Speaker 5: The Saturday, the nineteenth at West Virginia Health Rates East
- 11:13Speaker 5: End Clinic. It's fifteen twenty Washington Street East. We're right
- 11:16Speaker 5: beside a tutors. Most people don't know where anything is
- 11:18Speaker 5: in West Virginia. But they know where Tutors is.
- 11:21Speaker 3: We know landmarks in West Virginia.
- 11:22Speaker 5: That's right. And again it's just come. No questions. I
- 11:26Speaker 5: asked though, we're not going to ask you about income
- 11:28Speaker 5: or insurance or anything, and we just asked that you come.
- 11:31Speaker 5: You might have to have a little patience, maybe a
- 11:33Speaker 5: little bit of way, but we have great docs like
- 11:36Speaker 5: doctor Stansbury going to be there doing e exams and
- 11:38Speaker 5: great you know dentist, doctor Takubo coming, and just everybody
- 11:42Speaker 5: that's coming is there because they want to be there.
- 11:44Speaker 5: They're volunteers. And again my favorite saying is it's about
- 11:47Speaker 5: West Virginians helping West Virginians. And I love that event
- 11:51Speaker 5: because it shows our heart.
- 11:53Speaker 3: All right, and you settle from health right, Chris Stansbury,
- 11:55Speaker 3: you wanted any any follow up words from you?
- 11:57Speaker 7: No, I just can't say enough. You know thing, thanks
- 12:00Speaker 7: to all of our volunteers. The more volunteers we have,
- 12:02Speaker 7: the more people we can see it, the more people
- 12:03Speaker 7: we can help, the more lives we can touch.
- 12:06Speaker 3: And weather looks great too. I'm always keeping on the weather.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Weather looks good this weekend too.
- 12:10Speaker 7: So as as you mentioned, that's our can do spirit
- 12:12Speaker 7: here in West Virginia's.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Helper and that's how we decide how many we can see. Basically,
- 12:16Speaker 5: if we get like a lot of volunteers for a specialty,
- 12:19Speaker 5: we can see more people. So we gauge in on
- 12:21Speaker 5: that how many we can see that day based on
- 12:22Speaker 5: how many volunteers do we get, So we're always happy
- 12:24Speaker 5: to have more volunteers.
- 12:25Speaker 3: All right, guys, I appreciate you being here. It's a great,
- 12:28Speaker 3: great event. We helped you promote it last year and
- 12:30Speaker 3: as I said, I think our sister Seition V one
- 12:32Speaker 3: hundred is going to be a big part of it.
- 12:33Speaker 3: I know that Steve was talking about it earlier. Appreciate
- 12:36Speaker 3: you guys being here. And that's luck with everything on Saturday.
- 12:39Speaker 3: If you need anything between now and then reach out
- 12:41Speaker 3: and we'll get it on the air for you. Chris

- 16:29Speaker 3: A little bit smaller studio, but it's got a lot
- 16:32Speaker 3: of shiny stuff. It does that and some of the
- 16:34Speaker 3: stuff we don't even know what it does yet.
- 16:36Speaker 8: All right, at least forgot it when figured it out.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Every time, It's a like I said before, I was
- 16:41Speaker 3: telling them I said, you know, when you are in
- 16:43Speaker 3: the same place for a long long time, radio stations
- 16:45Speaker 3: are hard to move. I don't know whether people a
- 16:48Speaker 3: radio television, they're hard to move, especially when you're trying
- 16:51Speaker 3: to stay on there the whole time. But I can
- 16:53Speaker 3: in the and the cruise just done a fantastic job.
- 16:55Speaker 8: So look forward to seeing the new studio.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the next time. Possibly, I don't know when you'll
- 17:00Speaker 3: be on again. We may be on television.
- 17:02Speaker 8: Oh great, great?
- 17:03Speaker 3: And you you always are ready for television.
- 17:05Speaker 8: Shore always ready.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it'll be just like copies. Please. All right,
- 17:09Speaker 3: So let's break this down and keep it simple for
- 17:12Speaker 3: people like me. Okay, So we have a compromise now
- 17:15Speaker 3: between the governor and the legislature of the special session
- 17:18Speaker 3: was held last week. What was originally a five percent
- 17:21Speaker 3: tax increase or a decrease, I'm sorry, was what was wanted.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Now it's two percent. Your thoughts on the compromise.
- 17:27Speaker 12: Well, I think that's it's how system works, right, you know,
- 17:29Speaker 12: the government proposes. He really wanted to five percent. He
- 17:32Speaker 12: he wanted to continue to move us forward. U. The
- 17:35Speaker 12: let's staysure is a little bit more hesitant. We spent
- 17:37Speaker 12: we spent about three months doing a deep dive on
- 17:40Speaker 12: the finances of the state, and again from a governor standpoint,
- 17:44Speaker 12: I think from a revenue standpoint, we felt very comfortable
- 17:47Speaker 12: with five percent, but you know, government is the art
- 17:49Speaker 12: of compromise. We felt that like, if we could get
- 17:51Speaker 12: the two percent plus getting getting the shock here tax credit,
- 17:56Speaker 12: that was a good day's work. So we're very, very
- 17:58Speaker 12: pleased that we could reach agreement with with the legislature
- 18:01Speaker 12: and very pleased that we can reduce the tax burden
- 18:04Speaker 12: on our citizens.
- 18:04Speaker 3: And I think you would be the first to admit
- 18:07Speaker 3: and I'm not trying to bring up anything any bad
- 18:09Speaker 3: subjects here a secretary, but there's sometimes on certain issues,
- 18:13Speaker 3: been a little bit of a disconnect between the legislature
- 18:16Speaker 3: and the governor. This is something that they were able
- 18:18Speaker 3: to work together on. I heard everybody seemed to be
- 18:20Speaker 3: smiling and kind of got through it.
- 18:22Speaker 12: There's always tension, different different aspects, different perspectives. So there's
- 18:26Speaker 12: one hundred and thirty four legislators, there's one governor, and
- 18:30Speaker 12: so what the governor has to do and what our
- 18:33Speaker 12: challenge was, then Governor gave us the challenge is to
- 18:35Speaker 12: work with the legislature to come up with a compromise,
- 18:38Speaker 12: to come up with a legislation that we can pass.
- 18:41Speaker 12: And it's really just another step on what the governor
- 18:43Speaker 12: and what we've been working on every really since my
- 18:45Speaker 12: tenure there, which is to reduce the tax burden on
- 18:47Speaker 12: citizens of West Virginia. So we're well north of a
- 18:51Speaker 12: billion dollars over the last couple of years, last two
- 18:53Speaker 12: and a half years' something. I know the governor's real
- 18:56Speaker 12: proud of. I'm very proud to have a part of that,
- 18:58Speaker 12: and I know the legislature is all so proud. We're
- 19:01Speaker 12: continuing to march forward. We want to be competitive with
- 19:03Speaker 12: other states. We want to no longer be an outlier.
- 19:06Speaker 12: We're still higher than our surrounding station personal income tax,
- 19:09Speaker 12: but we're making steps toward that goal.
- 19:12Speaker 3: So break it down. What does this mean to the
- 19:13Speaker 3: average person? I mean the average person. I mean, and
- 19:16Speaker 3: I know there's no such thing as average per se,
- 19:18Speaker 3: but just I'm a you know, a homeowner, got a
- 19:22Speaker 3: job living here in the Kanaal Valley. What does what's
- 19:24Speaker 3: this going to make that?
- 19:25Speaker 12: I think the way I look at to try to
- 19:27Speaker 12: make it look simple, I was talking to my family members,
- 19:31Speaker 12: is that over the last two and a half years,
- 19:33Speaker 12: the governor of the legislature has reduced your personal income
- 19:36Speaker 12: tax burden by about twenty six percent, roughly twenty six percent.
- 19:40Speaker 12: So whatever you are paying in twenty twenty three, you're
- 19:44Speaker 12: now paying twenty for about twenty six percent less at
- 19:48Speaker 12: this time. And that's going to be different for every
- 19:49Speaker 12: tax payer, no matter where you're at. But also, you know,
- 19:52Speaker 12: in just the top level, we've also we now have
- 19:55Speaker 12: a childcare tax credit we didn't have before that's going
- 19:58Speaker 12: to help working, working family. Most of the conversation back
- 20:01Speaker 12: in the legislative session was for folks at the lower
- 20:04Speaker 12: income scale. We're no longer taxing sociecurity benefits. That's something
- 20:10Speaker 12: new and something that we've worked on for a lot
- 20:12Speaker 12: of years. As far as the Republican Party that we're
- 20:14Speaker 12: very proud of. We've got tax credits for veterans, so
- 20:17Speaker 12: a lot of different tax credits, a lot of different
- 20:19Speaker 12: ways that we're reducing the personal income tax burden for citizens.
- 20:23Speaker 12: But it's accumulation, and again, you just got to continue
- 20:27Speaker 12: to march forward and look forward to the next administration.
- 20:30Speaker 12: I really do believe that Attorney General Morrisey, soon to
- 20:33Speaker 12: be Governor Morsey will pick up that man on run
- 20:34Speaker 12: with it.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Taking State Revenue Secretary Larry Pack the Dave Island showing
- 20:38Speaker 3: five Indie Live broad to part by your hometown baseball team,
- 20:40Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds, Birds and our sister station. What
- 20:43Speaker 3: it was seven three to beat to invite you to
- 20:44Speaker 3: go Mark Ballpark Thursday, the twenty fourth for Trick or
- 20:47Speaker 3: Beat presented by Selango Law. There'll be two sessions, one
- 20:50Speaker 3: at six o'clock, the other starting at seven thirty. Keep
- 20:52Speaker 3: in mind it is free, but you must have a ticket.
- 20:55Speaker 3: You must must have a ticket to get your kids admitted.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Tickets are available at our studios eleven to eleven Virginia
- 21:01Speaker 3: Streetd's and Charleston during normal business hours. Have a text
- 21:03Speaker 3: of the show here. Secretary says, where specifically will the
- 21:06Speaker 3: cuts come from? Uh in in the DHS. Surely with
- 21:10Speaker 3: the deep dive they know specifically where the funds could
- 21:12Speaker 3: be taken from.
- 21:13Speaker 12: I think it's one of the interesting things about the conversation,
- 21:16Speaker 12: and I'll kind of back up a little bit that
- 21:19Speaker 12: a lot of the conversation came came from last week
- 21:23Speaker 12: or the last two or three months. How do you
- 21:25Speaker 12: do it? How do you do it? And to put
- 21:26Speaker 12: in perspective, we're only talking about two percent roughly of
- 21:30Speaker 12: the of the general fund budget. That's all we're talking about.
- 21:33Speaker 12: Two percent cut is something that that households have dealt
- 21:37Speaker 12: have dealt with over over the years, and they know
- 21:39Speaker 12: how to do it. Businesses know how to cut two percent.
- 21:42Speaker 12: So the idea that we can't ring ring out two
- 21:45Speaker 12: percent of the state budget is you know, it's kind
- 21:49Speaker 12: of you know, it's an understatement of me. We can
- 21:52Speaker 12: get it from a myriad of choices, a myriad of
- 21:54Speaker 12: different ways, and so we're looking at all the different
- 21:57Speaker 12: options and different ways to do it. But again, it's
- 21:59Speaker 12: just two cents on the dollar. And the only way
- 22:01Speaker 12: that we can't come up with two cents a dollar
- 22:03Speaker 12: is if you believe that the state government is so
- 22:06Speaker 12: efficient and so organized that they can't reduce two percent.
- 22:11Speaker 12: So it'll come from all across the budget. We do
- 22:14Speaker 12: know from there's different departments we've reorganized. We'll be able
- 22:18Speaker 12: to get some money out of there. We've continued, the
- 22:20Speaker 12: governors continue to put forth flat budgets, and most departments, well,
- 22:25Speaker 12: we are starting to work on the budget that we
- 22:27Speaker 12: will hand off to Governor Morrisey somewhere around Thanksgiving. Then
- 22:30Speaker 12: that gives him about sixty days to do his part.
- 22:32Speaker 12: So we feel very confident about it. We don't have
- 22:35Speaker 12: this specific exactly where, but again, coming up with two percent,
- 22:39Speaker 12: we don't think.
- 22:39Speaker 8: It's going to be much of a challenge.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Talk about overall revenue, I mean, we hear all these numbers,
- 22:44Speaker 3: and every month, you know, new reports come out of
- 22:46Speaker 3: your office and out of the government that says, this
- 22:48Speaker 3: is how we're doing. We're so much over budget or
- 22:51Speaker 3: under budget. It kind of varies month to month. Just
- 22:54Speaker 3: talk about West Virginia as a whole, as that you're
- 22:56Speaker 3: a numbers guy, budget guide. Tell me how we're doing overall.
- 23:00Speaker 12: Well, really, we've we have came through uh a season
- 23:03Speaker 12: over the last four or five years that is just
- 23:05Speaker 12: absolutely extraordinary. So so the state government has have have
- 23:08Speaker 12: had budget surpluses in the neighborhood of four billion dollars.
- 23:12Speaker 12: That means that we've basically taken four billion dollars more
- 23:15Speaker 12: from our tax payers and we really need to rent
- 23:17Speaker 12: to run government.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Now.
- 23:18Speaker 12: A lot of that money has been spent on what
- 23:20Speaker 12: we what what's called one time expenditures and to where
- 23:23Speaker 12: it's economic development, where it's rehabbing some buildings, some stuff
- 23:27Speaker 12: on healthcare. But we've had an extraordinary run and I
- 23:30Speaker 12: think for that reason, government's really had a good run,
- 23:34Speaker 12: and government's been well funded over the last four years. H.
- 23:37Speaker 12: Now it's time for the government to kind of tighten
- 23:38Speaker 12: your belts a little bit. And so so we feel
- 23:40Speaker 12: very good about it. We're we're on track to meet
- 23:43Speaker 12: our revenue estimates for this year. Uh, we've we believe
- 23:47Speaker 12: very confidently that we're going to beat those revenue budgets.
- 23:50Speaker 6: Uh.
- 23:50Speaker 12: We've only been through three months of the other fiscal years,
- 23:52Speaker 12: so we're just kind of getting started.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Uh.
- 23:54Speaker 12: We we have a lot more confidence confidence confidence once
- 23:58Speaker 12: we get through about six months. But we feel good Westernia.
- 24:01Speaker 12: The colony has been diversifying. That's something the governor's worked on,
- 24:03Speaker 12: is something the legislator's worked on really even longer than
- 24:05Speaker 12: the governor's been there. We're seeing the results of that.
- 24:08Speaker 12: So we feel very very confident going forward.
- 24:10Speaker 3: And it always it hasn't always been this way in
- 24:12Speaker 3: West Virginia if you go back over the decades, and
- 24:15Speaker 3: it doesn't matter whether there we've had budget issues, whether
- 24:17Speaker 3: it's a Republican or Democrat occupying the governor's mansion. So
- 24:20Speaker 3: it's not necessarily, you know, a partisan thing. We've just
- 24:23Speaker 3: had issues over the years, and so it's it's good
- 24:26Speaker 3: to have some good news.
- 24:27Speaker 8: It really is.
- 24:28Speaker 12: And again, I think so much of it is the
- 24:30Speaker 12: discipline that the legislation governors had over a number of
- 24:32Speaker 12: years to produce relatively fact budgets, which another way of saying,
- 24:37Speaker 12: to produce budgets where there's margin at the end, so
- 24:40Speaker 12: there's margins if you either missed your revenue as miss
- 24:42Speaker 12: there's margins so that you're able to do one time spends.
- 24:45Speaker 12: And again when government collects a dollar, if they got
- 24:47Speaker 12: three or four choices, we can we can save it,
- 24:49Speaker 12: we can we can spend it, or we can give
- 24:51Speaker 12: it back. So that fiscal discipline, which I think is
- 24:54Speaker 12: something that West Virginians understand, they practice at their homes,
- 24:57Speaker 12: they practice in their businesses, is something that we been
- 25:00Speaker 12: exhibiting and that will do us good going forward. But
- 25:03Speaker 12: I think the other thing is is just perspective and
- 25:05Speaker 12: and what what people I think sometimes under the dome
- 25:07Speaker 12: forget is that our tax payers work really really hard
- 25:11Speaker 12: to pay these taxes and fees, uh and and so
- 25:14Speaker 12: and these people that are paying the taxes and fees,
- 25:16Speaker 12: by and large, they don't have lobbyists. They're not in
- 25:19Speaker 12: the they're not in the under the dome. They're working,
- 25:21Speaker 12: they're raising their families, and so so much of what
- 25:24Speaker 12: we're trying to do is iss changed. The perspective is
- 25:28Speaker 12: does the government really need this money?
- 25:30Speaker 8: Is this?
- 25:30Speaker 12: Is this really a good idea? Is this something really
- 25:32Speaker 12: has to be done? Because we get a lot of
- 25:34Speaker 12: people with once coming to the to the state House,
- 25:37Speaker 12: we're trying to knock it down the needs do you
- 25:39Speaker 12: really do you really need it? And again, so much
- 25:42Speaker 12: of what we're trying to do, it's just changing perspective
- 25:44Speaker 12: of our folks that shop at Walmart, the folks who
- 25:47Speaker 12: graduate from high school, they work hard for to pay
- 25:50Speaker 12: their taxes. We want to make sure we don't take
- 25:51Speaker 12: any more than it's necessary.
- 25:53Speaker 3: How does the future look for West Virginia And Larry
- 25:55Speaker 3: Pack's opinion.
- 25:56Speaker 12: I am very bullish on West Virginia. I'm able to
- 26:00Speaker 12: from my vantage point working for the governor, working in
- 26:02Speaker 12: the Governor's office is to see the economic drivers that
- 26:06Speaker 12: are coming into West Virginia, the different businesses that are
- 26:08Speaker 12: expanding that want to be in West Virginia. So all
- 26:11Speaker 12: the work that's happened over the last ten or twelve
- 26:13Speaker 12: years just really starting to pay off again.
- 26:16Speaker 8: From an Eastern.
- 26:16Speaker 12: Panhandle on Northern Panhandle in north central just a tremendous
- 26:20Speaker 12: amount of growth, tremendous amount of potential there. I was
- 26:23Speaker 12: at New Corp yesterday. I've never been on a construction
- 26:26Speaker 12: site that had a thousand men or women that were
- 26:28Speaker 12: working to build, and the scale of it was just
- 26:31Speaker 12: absolutely extraordinary. The communications, the coordination of getting that done
- 26:37Speaker 12: is just phenomenal. That will change, absolutely transformed that part
- 26:40Speaker 12: of the state. So very very excited about that. But
- 26:43Speaker 12: there's a lot of smaller projects like new Coreps going in.
- 26:47Speaker 12: We're going to really see the benefits and it all
- 26:49Speaker 12: comes down to jobs, and we have jobs, will have growth.
- 26:53Speaker 12: The only concern we have is where I grew up
- 26:56Speaker 12: and where you grew up in the southern coal fields.
- 26:59Speaker 12: So we're still straggling down there, which you're looking for opportunities.
- 27:02Speaker 12: We have some things we think people may want to
- 27:04Speaker 12: go down there to great jobs, but uh, you know,
- 27:07Speaker 12: the the the the war against coal has absolutely ravaged.
- 27:12Speaker 8: Southern West Virginia.
- 27:14Speaker 12: Uh. Again, I think that's one of the reasons why
- 27:16Speaker 12: this election coming up in three weeks from today is
- 27:18Speaker 12: so so important. Uh So at least we can stem
- 27:20Speaker 12: uh you know, to kind of stop the war, maybe
- 27:23Speaker 12: pushed back a little bit and get some of these
- 27:24Speaker 12: coal mines back in operations.
- 27:26Speaker 3: And I have talked to those that are running for
- 27:28Speaker 3: office again, uh and those that are also in office
- 27:31Speaker 3: as well. We are seeing some incredible economic growth in
- 27:33Speaker 3: West Virginia. You mentioned New Core, and I live in
- 27:35Speaker 3: Putnam County. I'm seeing what's going on there right now,
- 27:38Speaker 3: eastern Panhandle. But we got to figure out how to
- 27:41Speaker 3: how to make sure that the rest of the state,
- 27:43Speaker 3: the southern West Virginia's and the other areas that how
- 27:47Speaker 3: they how they can also get a piece of the
- 27:49Speaker 3: pie as well.
- 27:49Speaker 12: Yeah, And that's a balance, that's a dance that has
- 27:51Speaker 12: to happen in in the governor's office, is that we
- 27:54Speaker 12: have to we have to help the areas that are
- 27:56Speaker 12: growing with infrastructure and all the things they need to
- 27:58Speaker 12: grow and grow faster. But we can't forget, really the
- 28:02Speaker 12: areas of West Virginia that basically has has has paid
- 28:05Speaker 12: for government for many, many years, and so we're also
- 28:07Speaker 12: trying to do everything we can for the southern coal
- 28:09Speaker 12: fields with infrastructure and try to do everything we can
- 28:14Speaker 12: to push businesses that way. So we think that all
- 28:17Speaker 12: the West Virginia is transforming. We look forward to doing
- 28:20Speaker 12: everything we can to get West Virginia, Southern West Virginia
- 28:24Speaker 12: growing again. That's where my heart is, That's where the
- 28:26Speaker 12: Governor's heart is, and again I'm sure that Governor Morrissey
- 28:29Speaker 12: will take out that man and run with it as well.
- 28:31Speaker 3: A couple of texts before we let you go, Texas.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Why is West Virginia's GDP less than every other state
- 28:36Speaker 3: that surrounds us.
- 28:38Speaker 12: I think a lot of it has to do with
- 28:40Speaker 12: with with eighty years of not trying to make West
- 28:44Speaker 12: Virginia business friendly. If businesses won't come to West Virginia,
- 28:48Speaker 12: we can't raise our standard of living. That's something we've
- 28:51Speaker 12: worked hard over the last ten years to try to
- 28:53Speaker 12: turn around. But for many years, you know, big businesses
- 28:56Speaker 12: for punies to come to West Virginia and so they
- 28:59Speaker 12: basically situated on our border. We've tried to change that.
- 29:02Speaker 12: We think we are changing that that will do a
- 29:04Speaker 12: lot to move up our grosc national product to our
- 29:08Speaker 12: medium income. We're doing a lot to work towards that,
- 29:10Speaker 12: But you can't do eighty years of telling businesses not
- 29:13Speaker 12: to come to West Virginia and expect us to be
- 29:15Speaker 12: competitive with our surrounding states.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Now, outside your current role the State Revenue Secretary, you're
- 29:21Speaker 3: also running to be the state treasurer. I know you're
- 29:23Speaker 3: keeping the two things separate. But while I've got you here,
- 29:26Speaker 3: may not have you on before the election talk about
- 29:28Speaker 3: your run for state treasure Why do you want to
- 29:29Speaker 3: do this?
- 29:29Speaker 8: We're very excited. I'm very excited about that.
- 29:32Speaker 12: You know, I spent twenty years of CPA and another
- 29:34Speaker 12: twenty years in business, so I am a numbers guy.
- 29:38Speaker 12: The State treasure as much as anything, is a CFO
- 29:41Speaker 12: for the state Chief Financial officer state. So how we
- 29:44Speaker 12: spend money, how we save money, how we borrow money,
- 29:47Speaker 12: how we have we receive money, those are things we
- 29:49Speaker 12: want to work on. We're also the state's bank, so
- 29:52Speaker 12: we take care of all the banking relationships for the
- 29:55Speaker 12: state of West Virginia. Were run the Hope Scholarship program,
- 29:58Speaker 12: some of the college savings programs, so it's a big portfolio.
- 30:02Speaker 12: I look forward to being able to kind of almost
- 30:05Speaker 12: narrow what the things that I work on, and also
- 30:08Speaker 12: look forward to being able to really work hard to
- 30:11Speaker 12: extend educational freedom, but take a longer view of states finances.
- 30:17Speaker 8: You know, in the.
- 30:17Speaker 12: Governor's office it's go, go go every day there's some
- 30:20Speaker 12: issue that the legislature only gets sixty days to focus
- 30:24Speaker 12: in on issues. I think we can give a lot
- 30:26Speaker 12: of information to the governor and legislature for about long
- 30:28Speaker 12: term trends and what we're seeing and hopefully be able
- 30:30Speaker 12: to help them all be successful.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Stay Revenue Secretary, Larry Pack, I appreciate you being here man,
- 30:34Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, Thanks for opportunity.

- 34:08Speaker 3: Rob Real good morning is here from our sister station
- 34:10Speaker 3: ninety six to one KWS Superstar Country. Hey man, it's
- 34:13Speaker 3: a much shorter walk to come do the show with
- 34:16Speaker 3: you at the moment. It's it's literally across the hall
- 34:19Speaker 3: now as opposed to across the hall around that you
- 34:22Speaker 3: needed a shirp and a Saint Bernard to get from
- 34:23Speaker 3: my studio to yours. So far, so what do you
- 34:26Speaker 3: think of the new Diggs?
- 34:27Speaker 15: Man?
- 34:27Speaker 3: I mean, you know, this is our this is our
- 34:28Speaker 3: temporary home because we're gonna be here and then we're
- 34:31Speaker 3: gonna eventually move back upstairs. And this is going to
- 34:33Speaker 3: be everybody's transition home from what I understand. Yeah, like,
- 34:37Speaker 3: because they're going to redo all the studios and you'll
- 34:39Speaker 3: come in here and hang out, then you'll go back again.
- 34:40Speaker 3: But so far, what do you think of It is
- 34:43Speaker 3: bright and beautiful and even though this is radio, do
- 34:47Speaker 3: not underestimate the quality of the visual for us to
- 34:52Speaker 3: be able to.
- 34:52Speaker 8: Do what we do.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Indeed all right, so, and I would at the least
- 34:55Speaker 3: thought you would have brought us like a bag of
- 34:56Speaker 3: you know, a fruit basket or a can ham or
- 34:58Speaker 3: something as a trust me, this station already has enough
- 35:01Speaker 3: candish down. Thank you?
- 35:03Speaker 8: All right?
- 35:04Speaker 3: All right, Well, waited all day on that one. So Rob,
- 35:08Speaker 3: I've known you for how long? How long have you
- 35:10Speaker 3: been here? I've been back a year and a half.
- 35:13Speaker 3: So this is my second tour of duty with WVRC Media.
- 35:17Speaker 3: You did talk about new studios. When I came back,
- 35:19Speaker 3: it had been I think it's somewhere between seven and
- 35:22Speaker 3: eight years since i'd been in the ninety six one studio,
- 35:24Speaker 3: and I remembered just enough. It was just familiar enough
- 35:27Speaker 3: to be awkward when you think you know it but
- 35:30Speaker 3: you don't. Yes, Yes, that whole day two thing. You know,
- 35:33Speaker 3: day one you don't know what you know. You know,
- 35:35Speaker 3: you don't know what you're doing. You're a pig on
- 35:36Speaker 3: roller skates. But day two you think, oh, I kind
- 35:38Speaker 3: of got this. No, No, I did not. Yeah, I
- 35:42Speaker 3: said a dumb thing a couple of months ago. I
- 35:45Speaker 3: think during our Cares for Kids radio thon, I got
- 35:49Speaker 3: caught up in the spirit of it. At the Hosteler
- 35:51Speaker 3: Center on the tenth floor of DOUBLEVU Medicine Children's and
- 35:55Speaker 3: I wasn't thrilled with how the numbers were coming in
- 35:58Speaker 3: early Friday morning, and I proclaimed that if we could
- 36:01Speaker 3: somehow manage to beat last year's total, that I would
- 36:05Speaker 3: walk the check back from our office here in Charleston
- 36:08Speaker 3: to the to WVU Medicine Children that I would that
- 36:13Speaker 3: I that I'd walk carry it myself. That's a that
- 36:16Speaker 3: was a dumb thingie. What were you thinking? I was.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I know you're not a drinker, but still, I mean,
- 36:21Speaker 3: had you had a little nip, well, you know, little
- 36:23Speaker 3: Gaelic coffee is what it takes to get you go
- 36:25Speaker 3: and keep you warm. It was cold in the Hostetler
- 36:27Speaker 3: Center that morning. And we frequently talk about in this
- 36:30Speaker 3: place how I am fifty IQ part points smarter afternoon
- 36:34Speaker 3: than I am before it. And I just I was
- 36:36Speaker 3: a talking monkey at that point, and I just I said,
- 36:40Speaker 3: you know, I if y'all can do this, I will walk.
- 36:45Speaker 3: I didn't think it was gonna happen. Let's be honest.
- 36:46Speaker 3: You underestimated our listeners, basically, Yeah, I think I did,
- 36:50Speaker 3: but by a long shot because y'all smashed it one
- 36:52Speaker 3: hundred and seventy two thousand dollars and some change for
- 36:55Speaker 3: West Virginia kids to stay healthy, happy and healing. And
- 37:00Speaker 3: so I am nothing if not a man of my word.
- 37:02Speaker 3: You are that are I am nothing? But I am
- 37:04Speaker 3: a man of my word. So I will keep that promise.
- 37:07Speaker 3: And Thursday morning, at eight o'clock this this Thursday, less
- 37:11Speaker 3: than forty seven hours from now, I will step out
- 37:15Speaker 3: of the Walker Studios. We've got somebody to hit the
- 37:17Speaker 3: ones and the twos for me, and I will start
- 37:19Speaker 3: walking toward Morgantown. We've coordinated some with West Virginia State Police,
- 37:25Speaker 3: and of course you know the corporate folks and their lawyers.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I hate all lawyers except mine. Good morning, Olivia. So
- 37:32Speaker 3: there are some rules to this. I obviously can't do
- 37:35Speaker 3: it all at once. They're only letting me walk during daylight.
- 37:38Speaker 3: So each day we'll start at eight am and I
- 37:41Speaker 3: have basically until six pm to get that day. And
- 37:44Speaker 3: it's good, but it's getting darker sooner.
- 37:46Speaker 8: Now.
- 37:46Speaker 3: We haven't had the time change yet, but I noticed
- 37:48Speaker 3: it last night. Just starting to get darker a lot sooner.
- 37:50Speaker 3: It is not a coincidence. That we're getting this done
- 37:53Speaker 3: before the time change hits on November three, because you know,
- 37:59Speaker 3: we fall back and that's an hour less I have
- 38:03Speaker 3: in the evening, So about ten hours of available walking
- 38:07Speaker 3: time that includes any pit stops and food and you know,
- 38:10Speaker 3: passing out by the side of the road, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 3: any defibrillation that's gonna have to happen. So eight o'clock,
- 38:16Speaker 3: day one, I hope to make it to Clintdennon's twenty
- 38:20Speaker 3: one miles. That'll be the biggest chunk of it. If
- 38:22Speaker 3: I can survive on Thursday, I'll.
- 38:25Speaker 8: Be all right.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Now, somebody's gonna be following you, like along in a
- 38:28Speaker 3: vehicle and you know, like throw you in the back. Well,
- 38:30Speaker 3: I mean that happens to me every day. Well yeah,
- 38:32Speaker 3: but I will have support available. Our station vehicle truck
- 38:37Speaker 3: Norris and as we like to call it, will be
- 38:40Speaker 3: floating around wherever I'm walking. It may not necessarily be
- 38:43Speaker 3: where I plan to stop that day, but it'll be
- 38:45Speaker 3: there and can fetch me the Some of the time
- 38:50Speaker 3: it'll be folks who work with us. Some of the
- 38:51Speaker 3: time it's gonna be my family who's going to be
- 38:53Speaker 3: in town next week. Just in case because you know
- 38:55Speaker 3: they have a vested interest in whether I live or don't,
- 39:00Speaker 3: you know, the ones who will be their rent from me.
- 39:03Speaker 3: So yeah, I'll have the support I need. But any
- 39:07Speaker 3: cheering on that folks want to do, any following along
- 39:10Speaker 3: they want to do on social media, good words, I'm
- 39:13Speaker 3: always happy to take. And if anybody is so moved
- 39:16Speaker 3: by this that they want to reach out to the
- 39:18Speaker 3: Children's Miracle Network in WVU Medicine Children's I think we
- 39:21Speaker 3: can accommodate that as well. You know, I'm not looking
- 39:25Speaker 3: for pledges per mile or anything like that. It's but
- 39:28Speaker 3: if you are so moved, I'm sure we can get
- 39:30Speaker 3: that arranged. So how long approximately is this going to take?
- 39:34Speaker 3: I know you've got a factor in weather and things
- 39:36Speaker 3: of that nature, and yeah, and bunyons and that nature.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Shoote horses, don't they? But but how long is this
- 39:42Speaker 3: going to take? Do you have any idea? I have
- 39:43Speaker 3: allotted eleven work days, So we'll go Thursday Friday this week,
- 39:48Speaker 3: I'll rest up Saturday Sunday. We'll go Monday through Friday
- 39:52Speaker 3: the next week, rest up the following Saturday Sunday, and
- 39:55Speaker 3: then start again the following Monday and we should be
- 40:00Speaker 3: walking into WVU Medicine Children's hitting the elevator up to
- 40:04Speaker 3: the tenth floor again the Hostetler Center for some Halloween
- 40:06Speaker 3: shenanigans on Thursday afternoon, October thirty. First, this is built
- 40:12Speaker 3: kind of in a way that if there is a problem,
- 40:14Speaker 3: whether it's weather or something like that, or you or me,
- 40:19Speaker 3: there there is kind of a flex day in there
- 40:21Speaker 3: in that last week of two very short walks that
- 40:24Speaker 3: I'm planning that I could combine into one. And you know,
- 40:28Speaker 3: if worse comes to worse, I will do some walking
- 40:31Speaker 3: on Saturday or Sunday just to make up some miles
- 40:33Speaker 3: if I need to. So are you booking hotels along
- 40:35Speaker 3: the way? You sleeping in the truck coming? How's this?
- 40:37Speaker 3: I want to know, Legist. The answer is yes to
- 40:40Speaker 3: all that. Here in the early on I'll get to
- 40:42Speaker 3: sleep in my own bed in downtown Charleston. You know,
- 40:45Speaker 3: I'll get to Clinton and the truck Okay, yeah, I
- 40:47Speaker 3: didn't think about that. The truck will be waiting for me.
- 40:49Speaker 3: I'll simply drive back, sleep in my own bed. I'll
- 40:52Speaker 3: actually come in and do some things in the studio
- 40:54Speaker 3: Friday morning, and then he usually wake up yeap, and
- 40:57Speaker 3: then somebody will follow me to left hand on Friday
- 41:00Speaker 3: and we'll drop the truck off and they'll take me
- 41:02Speaker 3: back and I'll start in Clinton and and it's when
- 41:05Speaker 3: we get closer to it's when we get closer to
- 41:07Speaker 3: the hospital that final week Clarksburg, Fairmont, Morgantown, that I'll
- 41:11Speaker 3: need some hotel help. But having family to ferry me
- 41:16Speaker 3: around in that middle week is going to help because
- 41:19Speaker 3: I can just pass out in the passenger seat and maybe,
- 41:22Speaker 3: you know, put my feet up so that they're not
- 41:24Speaker 3: all swollen looking like for everyone started attempted. Because I
- 41:27Speaker 3: know you've been in radio for a long time and
- 41:29Speaker 3: you've been all over the country. Have you ever attempted
- 41:31Speaker 3: anything even remotely close to this? So I've done a
- 41:35Speaker 3: number of stupid things in my life, but are we
- 41:39Speaker 3: still talking about radio? Well, the closest it comes for me.
- 41:44Speaker 3: It's both good and bad. Of course. You know, I
- 41:46Speaker 3: served in the United States Marine Corps, so I'm used
- 41:48Speaker 3: to it was my honor.
- 41:50Speaker 8: I am.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I am familiar with hiking twenty miles in a field pack.
- 41:55Speaker 3: I was a marathon or when I was a big
- 41:57Speaker 3: difference rob between eighteen to twenty year old and early fifties. Raw,
- 42:02Speaker 3: that's the difference. I will I will turn fifty one,
- 42:05Speaker 3: God willing on All Saints Day. It is not a coincidence.
- 42:08Speaker 3: And I'm trying to finish this thing before my birthday.
- 42:12Speaker 3: But yeah, so I at least have the mental experience
- 42:16Speaker 3: of going this far. I mean, I did an iron
- 42:18Speaker 3: Man in my teens, so you'd think that at least
- 42:22Speaker 3: some of that imprinting would stick in my head. But
- 42:25Speaker 3: you're right, I have the I'm fifty, and I have
- 42:28Speaker 3: the knees of a man twice my age, So this
- 42:31Speaker 3: is going to be interesting. I've scouted the route and
- 42:34Speaker 3: there are a couple of spots where the road just
- 42:36Speaker 3: goes uphill. It's uphill for one hundred and seventy two
- 42:39Speaker 3: miles really to Morgantown. So this was not So you're
- 42:42Speaker 3: gonna start Thursday morning, You're averaging about twenty miles a day.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Twenty one is the most I will do on day.
- 42:49Speaker 3: So but if you're feeling good, you may do a
- 42:50Speaker 3: couple more. Yeah, or if you're feeling bad, maybe you
- 42:53Speaker 3: drop off a little bit.
- 42:54Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Well, I'm you know, I would say the average you know,
- 42:56Speaker 3: one hundred and seventy two divided by eleven days, it's
- 42:59Speaker 3: an average about fifteen or sixteen miles a day. But
- 43:02Speaker 3: you know, if I have a like if I'm feeling
- 43:04Speaker 3: good Friday afternoon and I get and I passed the
- 43:06Speaker 3: post office in left hand, and I'm like, I can
- 43:08Speaker 3: go a little bit more. I'll keep going toward Arnoldsberg
- 43:11Speaker 3: a little bit and then you know, I'll have the
- 43:14Speaker 3: weekend to rest. But this is not this is not
- 43:19Speaker 3: my finestar, I'll be honest. Well, now i'd like to,
- 43:22Speaker 3: I mean, if you can, I'd like for you to
- 43:24Speaker 3: check in with us, you know, on the show. I
- 43:26Speaker 3: would be glad to, but we don't want it to
- 43:28Speaker 3: sound like you're calling a one night one nine hundred
- 43:31Speaker 3: number and you're breathing heavily on the phone or something
- 43:33Speaker 3: back if you remember those I'm sure you do because
- 43:34Speaker 3: you're Rob. So I could never afford it. So I
- 43:38Speaker 3: would like for you to maybe check in with as
- 43:40Speaker 3: daily is best you can, like, Rob, where are you?
- 43:42Speaker 3: Even if it's just for five minutes? Is that something
- 43:43Speaker 3: we could do? I think we can. We can work
- 43:45Speaker 3: that out. It's funny you mentioned that I've already worked
- 43:48Speaker 3: out my Halloween costume for the final day. Had I
- 43:50Speaker 3: thought ahead, I would have done a Where's Waldo? Okay,
- 43:53Speaker 3: and I'm not doing that, but maybe maybe the next
- 43:57Speaker 3: time I do something this stupid. I got a text
