- 0:12[SPEAKER_03]: everyone, welcome on in June 10th back on a Wednesday here at the Shures on SI podcast, taken out here on the eve of the World Cup, happy World Cup Eve to everyone.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: Almost the greatest day in sports for two days away.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_03]: We'll already get some extra good tomorrow.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be fantastic.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_03]: Grand Chapman here, hanging out.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_03]: We got our fearless leader, John Hoover up in the 98 boss,
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: We are, uh, we are awesome.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: We are getting ready for, uh, return to Omaha, Nebraska for some college world series.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm ready.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sooner is headed to Omaha, who that means that he gets to write off a family trip.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_03]: So get to go see the nephew, hang out, all that fun stuff.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be sending reinforcements provided the sooner's win a bunch of baseball games, which is all they've done here for two straight weekends.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_03]: And our main course in field is on deck for that.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: Course in my friend, how you be?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Can't complain the Golden Knights lost last night.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's a nice summer day talking ball on Wednesdays, so all things considered pretty good.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_03]: Man way more silly kind of princess than the saber so big is it's not you're not wrong Unfortunately that goes I know that's a win for the hockey world Which makes me like the golden nights.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think even more even though that was a I would tell us boy It's like the oh hey my greatest move to Vegas will hop on the gold nights Then you're one.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's like oh god.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if I I don't need that kind of talk 60 in my life It's far as that goes we got Ryan A.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: Burst speaking of toxicity.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean just
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: here again comes what's happening why why is this happening I don't know I can't explain anything at this point but uh hey at least got my uh no way that rigley uh obvious shirt uh on today so it's uh it's a great baseball season even if it's not
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: well it's listen there's not a bad baseball season unless everyone's just like so hurt that it's like we can't even enjoy a good day out things like that as long as like it's good he ups pitching stuff maybe yeah maybe you know but uh not everyone you know it's just one whole point good thing you don't need pitching to a baseball we know this that that's not super important or anything like that so getting underway here will get to obviously everything that's skipping the crew are doing as they are
- 2:32[SPEAKER_03]: due to arrive in Omaha here in a little bit got meaty day happenings the extravaganza that is all day tomorrow but there was before we get to that an incredible VIP in Norman America.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yesterday it was the final four days of the Britvinnables football camp and Karsta was following along with your updates all that stuff and I have
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: a little bit of a jump scare.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: I saw the great Cody Campbell on my timeline.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, what is happening?
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's like, oh yeah, his son's an offensive lineman.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_03]: We're crewed.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: But kind of nice to see all the college football worlds collide after what has been a hectic tumultuous crazy week in the sport.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, it was, if it was a jump scare for you through the screen, imagine me being there looking over asking the guy to my right.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Is that who I think it is?
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: That was truly weird, but like you said Carson Campbell is an offensive line prospect and a pretty good one at that big kid, I believe, is six foot three, almost 300 pounds, only a rising sophomore.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: So he is a good player, has offers from OU, Texas Tech, of course, A&M, Arizona State, name your SEC, big 12 schools.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a lot of them at this point.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: No discredits of a kid he looked good yesterday had a good camp, but yeah that was bizarre not going to lie and just kind of on a broad sense.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's been weird.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the tweets that I've put out the last few days about this whole Texas tech, Cody Campbell's situation, seeing likes from OU people, Texas people, and M people, Georgia people, name your school that isn't Texas tech.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: It is something that outside of Lubbock, Texas does seem to be kind of uniting these usual foes.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_03]: Deesarcation wasn't wrong, he was only early when deciding to pick a fight with the red raiders.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_03]: And could I go out on a limb here, Carson?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think that you'll go out on it with me.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: I would project that Carson Campbell probably would go to Tech's Tech.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think he'll end up as a red raider.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_03]: I would be stunned if anything else happens.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_03]: But credit to him for getting out and wanting to work with Bill Beanball, go camp and kind of do the recruiting thing on his own, even though obviously his dad is very, very tied to a particular school.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I 100% agree with that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's most likely he ends up staying in a Lubric, but Bill Beatombo did coach Cody Campbell, actually when he was a college football player, so maybe that tie, I know so many people think highly and rightfully so of Bill Beatombo.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, if he goes somewhere that isn't Texas Tech, it wouldn't shock me if it was of you, but I'm still with you, I think.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: His presence, I'm not sure that a lot of, yes, he has a lot of offers.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure a lot of fan bases, a lot of staffs who want that kind of drama that could follow that.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: But he is a good player.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: My prediction though, is he'll be a red red or one day.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: would be a stunner there, who that was the funniest thing I thought was once everyone got past that, why is he there?
- 5:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, he's son recruited all that stuff.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: It quickly became the get everybody the heck away from Cody Campbell.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: Don't let him talk to anybody.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: We know in my opinion, allegedly tampering is a thing in college football.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: Texas Tech has done a lot to revamp their programs and things like that.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_03]: I know that there are many people there.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, first off is the heck away from anyone on campus, players, coaches.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, secondly, Texas Tech is firmly in the crosshairs as they already have made like a mockery and softball transfer portal with all that.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to that here in a minute, a sooner probably hit it down, but love it for a sooner now.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: But Cody Campbell, around how that bread and source be?
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, John, as long as you have a mental health crisis, you can bet.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: What looks to be illegally moving money across state lines, betting under age all that stuff, and you only get two games by the school, because apparently the courts who say, ah, you can gamble on sports, the one you're playing, the teams you are, you're odd you can gamble on that.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's no worries.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Beat Rose got railroaded, didn't he?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: When you think about it in that context, he probably should have gotten a like a psychiatrist to come out and say that he was mental health was being damaged by a being fired, being not being elected to the Hall of Fame.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Just ridiculous.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the number one
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: thing that they teach you and when you get to upperly upper level sports, whether that's baseball NFL, probably the NBA as well, I'm assuming, do not bet on sports, do not bet on professional sports, do not bet on the NBA if you're in the NBA or the NFL if you're in the NFL.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen those signs in locker rooms and clubhouses.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen the signs, do not bet.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: The NCAA, they're, they're, they're thing the last two years, three years has been,
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you think you can do this, if you think don't bet on it, that's their little mantra, they're little slogan that they invented.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Here we are, and this isn't the NCAA's fault, I'm not lying at their feet, but here we are where the NCAA is saying, yeah, we have to stand up and say something about this quarterback who's played for three schools now or going to play for three schools this year.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Admitted to having a gambling problem.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: Here are his gambling losses according to or his gambling numbers according to the people that he placed his wages with.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Clearly, he cannot play football again.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: He cannot play college football.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I thought this was going to make him an NFL pariah.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you got no shot coming to the NFL after this thing follows you out of college.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: We're in 2026 now where anything goes.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Texas Tech's taking it to another level.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: perhaps the biggest upset and this whole thing, ABER is that Texas Tech has five of pellet court judges that can be the ones.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know that, I mean, they're more on-stown there.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know that they got had a law school, much less were pumping out actual, like, judges.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_03]: So apologies to everyone in Texas.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: No wonder the fifth circuit is bat crazy and sane.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_03]: That makes all of the sense in the world now.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: But we've seen some outcry from like the big tin.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_03]: It started with Nebraska and
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: categorically across the board, no one scheduled Texas Tech talked about them, sounds like the SEC is down with that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: The big 12's got their own stuff, and I do not actually in-be Brett, your mark, because the big 12 is learned the lessons of, they side it with Texas 1, to upset all their brands and Nebraska and Missouri and stuff like that.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: Then they didn't do enough to help out Oklahoma and Texas, which led them to go into the SEC.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: I feel bad for Brett, where I want to look around and go, and I'm sure if you asked him, he's like,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: the statement that he put out initially was very much the like I would like to say this is bad but Texas exit my league and Cody Campbell and I are on the phone all the time so I don't want to say this but I wonder for Oklahoma I don't think there are any big time like OU Texas Tech Matchups so I'm going to get NYX to have to move around across all the other sports but I do wonder if this is going to be something that actually affects or has any kind of
- 9:09[SPEAKER_03]: And like ability to sway Texas Tech to go out on their own and suspend themselves or anything like that because we saw softball got killed and seating because don't want to play then this year because of
- 9:24[SPEAKER_03]: There's transfer portal, tampering happens in the transfer portal.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's over here, Texas Tech Softball exists.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_03]: Because of stuff like that, no one wanted to play tech and they had to be in 11-seed, route, lot of all the way.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: Is that a big enough specter to the rest of their programs?
- 9:39[SPEAKER_03]: That it could force them to do something for the good of the sport?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's, if one is a tough position for for the big 12 to be in, but yeah, I think it can when you talk about, you know, this isn't just a football deal in Nebraska,
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way that the ruling will be changed before the football season, so much like an own Heinekees case, SourceBee is going to be eligible according to the courts, which is sort of ridiculous as who talked about the rules, you know, it
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: We think about how punished Arch Schleester was for what he did way back in the day even before Pete Rose and here we are saying hey you can gamble on the sport
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I was a big anti-peat rose guy, like I loved him as a player, but I always said he should be in the Hall of Fame the day after he died, because he shouldn't be able to profit from that.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I think, you know, not going to say that the source we should suffer that fate, but this takes all
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: of the enforcement teeth out of the NCAA.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing, if they can't enforce this, one of the most basic rules in sports, then they really can't enforce anything.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this could be what starts bringing people together to figure out a framework that works in college athletics.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Avery, you, you invoked the name of archsleaster for us old guys that was like 182 or 83.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what about Hunter Decker's from two years ago?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: He was black-shaped right out of the, of the sport.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: No more college for you, no senior year, forget the NFL.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: You can't even play in the USL or UFL or whatever the hell it is.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you know that that's crazy um... that two years ago this same thing happened to on a much smaller scale and now we're talking about this is judge and in love with taxis and these good guys he's good what
- 12:02[SPEAKER_03]: I do a free tip, though, to hand out Texas Tech student section.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_03]: You should start printing big red machine shirts.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think that that would be a good new moniker instead of the red zone, which I always thought was super lame, because again, there's a bunch of more on some love it.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: So I would do that.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: You can bet on that.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: You can take that one to the bank as well.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_03]: So should be good, and I'm sure this is gonna just go away and be in the middle of the off, no, all that stuff.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder, you know,
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: Joe McGuire had said we're about to release a big non-conference home with the first off he said a blue blood and a big time blue blood.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_03]: Again, Joey, I know that these guys aren't the scholars, but like blue bloods, find out which are big time.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: There's not big time blue bloods, either a blue blood, or not a blue blood.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: The blue bloods are big time.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_03]: That's how that goes.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: Shut up, love it one more one time.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_03]: But I wonder if that'll kind of get some ground to a halt as far as everything goes.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_03]: There'll be interesting to see.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: But just a weird happening that the college football world and the new cycle kind of blended over with birth variables elite camp for a guy that, yeah, I don't think you said cars.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: No, you
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: think everyone gets a bit.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_03]: Dad is the mega donor at tech.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_03]: It would be kind of sitting, but they're going to tech.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_03]: There were a bunch of other like actual big time guys on the recruiting target, not that cars cable is it, but again, we talked about it.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_03]: Five star defense attack going in as far as that goes.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_03]: Let's run through a couple of those guys because you were able to catch up with Mr. Hall who stopped through and it seems like he really enjoyed his time working with Todd Bates.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_03]: We got a shameless print that was in the crew.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Kellin Hall from Kentucky five star prospect like you said he's a stud was just very impressive, very physical not even the biggest kind of five star defensive linemen you'll see but just that quick that athletic that violent as a lot of the coaches on staff say they like they want violence and a player killing hall has that
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: just an outstanding player.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: He also took an unofficial visit over the weekend, so it wasn't just the camp.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: He also got to know some of the other coaches, some of the players a little bit better too.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: So he told me he really enjoyed the experience.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was also his 16th birthday happy birthday, Helen.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: But he's someone definitely to keep an eye on sending us going to be back in the fall for at least one, maybe two games.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a name to watch for the 2028 class.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: One year younger than him is Jack's Wilkerson, who is an offensive tackle from Midwest City, plays at Carl Albert.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: He is the son of the late Jimmy Wilkerson, of course, who was on the 2000 National title team.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: He passed away a couple of years ago, a heart attack.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: But his son, Jack, is just, he's a specimen, he's huge, I believe, six eight is what he's listed that as
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: a rising sophomore in high school.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that's impressive and he doesn't look like just another big guy.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: He looks like he has a lot of the physicality needed, a lot of these players get the size, don't have the football skills, but being the son of a former football player, already looking like a very strong kind of player, he looks like he could be someone to watch over the next few years as well.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: You head to the website, Oklahoma suitors on Si.com.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_03]: You can read both about Jax and Kellin.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_03]: Both stories totally free.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: Different obviously angles as far as Kellin, a ton of stuff that you talked about cars in the industry, the Jax story.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: You could just kind of feel it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_03]: reading through just how much that meant to him and how incredible the story that is as far as him being able to at least start the process of truly chase the dream to follow in his dad's foot steps and not the only local guy you're able to catch up with because going back in the last week while why it cordrax he was hanging around in town and another guy that strong strong ties to the
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, why a Cordray also from the 29 class, also from Carl Albert High School.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's someone that is an elite prospect, both in football and baseball.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Artiest football offers has only played only gotten a few catches at the varsity level, but he already has OU and Arizona State offers pretty impressive for someone entering a sophomore year.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's also, I believe, the top 15 outfielder
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: in the nation for the 29 class according to perfect game.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe this is someone that plays for both Brent's team and Skip's team down the line.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: He told me he wouldn't rule that out, but a really good tight-end prospect on the football side did enough to impress Jason Whitten getting off for after that camp.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: He needs to fill out a little bit to be a traditional college power foretide-end, but he's still got three years of high school to do that, a really good past catcher in the drills that I got to see.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: And then just in general, it felt like Friday, Carson was a day that we talked about some of the individual guys, but overall just 10,000 foot view felt like Bill Beanbow got anybody in everybody that he's somewhat interested in for the most part he got most of those guys to come out camp and it sounded like a really, really strong day of work out there at Norman.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, Friday was definitely the highlight day aside from the Cody Campbell mess.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: This was the best prospects being in the building.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that specifically the big guy, the big guy session in the morning, between the offensive linemen and the defensive linemen.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: That was of course the day that Kevin Hall and Jack's Wilkerson were there.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: They were just two of the many guys that either have offers from OU, or several other power four teams.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: So it was a lot of good competition and it was really
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: good to see guys like Kellin Hall, Jack's Wilkerson winning, winning reps not just against other players but against other high level players.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think those camps do give kind of unglimbs to the coaching staff, the scouting staff, how good of a prospect is this player?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Is he just big?
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Is this an issue?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they liked a lot of what they saw in that Friday day I can't.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_03]: And guys, it's one of the the old school things to left in front of us.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: I know that, of course, you weren't here for like his very first press conference and stuff like that, but who've been able to test that going all the way back to his first spring where he was really laying out the vision.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: He talked a lot about for him those on campus.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: camps are still really, really important.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's not a huge fan of the big satellite camps.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: He kind of used that as like the, hey, we've got the official, we're going to use the official, and obviously we want to bring you in, but it's almost like that little bit of, yeah, are you going to come in and get great work, of course.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to be able to work with Brick Minibles Coaching staff, which is done a really good job developing, yes, of course.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: But it's also kind of that bit of,
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma wants them to show their recruit to show like, hey, I've got this much commitment to being interested in this to kind of come out and hang out for a couple of days in the summer and camp around and I know that Brent has modernized a lot of things since maybe kind of the older school vision into Italian and you laid out there, but this is to one of those bits that you know that all those guys that came in that that like meant a great deal to great to a break of animals in this coaching staff.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no kid.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And he wants those guys to show some level of commitment to owe you and not just vice versa.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's an extension of his recruiting philosophy, which is, you know, that things aren't all transactional, that there's some, you know,
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: actual relationship there that's beyond that.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is a good way to build that obviously, especially for, you know, the offensive lineman working for Bill Beatonbow with, you know, heck, the defensive lineman now working with Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates and the job that they've proven to do.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think it becomes easier to get players to want to come in.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: to these camps, but certainly you've got to make a good impression when you do that.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: It certainly appears that OU has done that and continue to modernize the way they recruit while still keeping sort of the soul of what Brent Minibles was talking about five years ago when he took that job.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: keeping their mission intact.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_03]: The flip side of that is you saw a little bit, this was, was it Saturday morning or Sunday, my days have run together.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: Tomorrow, dessert, dessert, excuse me.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: 27 commit at the time.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: Now, decommitted sounds like as mutual as that can get as you see the rumblings and rumors that he was looking interested and going to visit out at Cal.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: Sounds like that did not happen in the way that
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you know, Brickville said lined out the if you visit your doctor, we've seen him kind of have some give and take and it's been kind of Plair to play her is that situation sounds like both Tomorrow and Oklahoma happy to walk away from that situation, but then later on you get drawn a Hall flipping and then suddenly you look up and go Oklahoma is stroke about great and how but Carson suddenly you look up and go great now the only guy It's kind of like back to the drawing board for image Jones Jim now you this front office staff when it comes to
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: building out that wider seeper room outside of how I know that they're very very excited about.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm curious to see how this, this just unfolds, because they've obviously offered so many different guys, a lot of them have committed elsewhere, great in how, of course, committed to OU.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm curious to see if they get creative, offer some more unheralded type of guys.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: I know they sent out one, I believe it was Milan Greens' name, gotten offer after Camp yesterday, Daniel Yavit, who is a two-way guy, four-star crew, top uncommitted player from Oklahoma, he plays both receiver and defense
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: He was at camp, he hasn't announced that he's gotten to know you offer yet, so I'm not sure he's someone on the sooner's radar, really impressive prospect though, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he did at some point appear on their radar, but it is back to the drawing board, you don't want to see guys like
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: especially discern with how highly rated he is.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: That is a pretty big loss.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Admittedly, he is now committed to Cal, which obviously that's his home state, not overly shocking there, but it's a loss in this one that this staff is going to have to make up for, but we've seen what they've been able to do just time and time again in this recruiting cycle.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have too much panic about
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: John, how big of a year do you think it is for just him at Jones at large?
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, you look at it.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: Isaiah Cetanya is like, as much as you don't want to or you ding him for a couple years ago, all the injuries, some development stuff.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think it would also be kind of like pretty unfair to turn around and be like, and Isaiah Cetanya is only a Cetanya credit.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: Like, no credit goes to him at Jones or anything like that because he named here was this close to be at Oklahoma's first house in New York receivers.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's like Marvin Mimms turning back around.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: You see the quick identification and in the work done by Jones the front office staff to bring in trial Harris and Parker Livingston, but is it what do you think you're going to grade the wider silver core on beyond just production does it matter to you like this Elijah Thomas or a mani choice one of those guys have to come in and make an impact and show hey bringing in these high school recruits is it just a waste of a roster spot.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: You got an in transfer portal over them because it's a good to go for
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is four years that we've seen good recruits come in and we've seen very, very little development from the recruit high school recruits who come in.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's a red flag.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big red flag for this staff.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: We don't just see the recruits come in.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: We see players who look really accomplished in high school, players who get a lot of really high level offers.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you wins those battles.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you get those guys to Norman and what did they do?
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing for two years, and then they transfer or nothing for three years.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it's got to be getting frustrating for Brent Benables and all the offensive coordinators that he said.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: Just to just to know that, uh, or to realize, you know, the evidence shows you every year, these guys are coming in with a lot of fanfare and they're leaving and we're getting nothing out of them.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Or someone else in a freshman in coming class can come in and sustain some momentum and make plays and become a consistent player Consistent contributor on the offense then maybe you You know pull back the reins a little bit and say okay, I'm I'm not gonna not gonna charge over him just yet But but if that if the opposite happens and these guys continue to do nothing We're in it's gotta look at that
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: living in the portal alone is not what you want to especially when it comes to one of those positions like why to see where it feels like the top top top end guys I mean how many years neuro have we seen it it's just become straight bidding war and you just go hey it's great to find a good quote unquote deal or stuff like that you don't want to have to live in the
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: The bargain bin for a key piece of your offense, especially when it comes to putting guys around like they did a good job.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: Looks like on paper, surrounding John material is from top this year, but if you're moving on to like a younger guy in a boat Bentley and years beyond stuff like that, you want to be able to have established dudes to make like much, much easier on the quarterback obviously the running game is going to help.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_03]: But we've talked a lot and we'll continue to talk a lot all throughout the rest of the off season and into fall camp about the running game and the game's welcome is trying to make.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_03]: there as well.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, outside of that, this evening, Wednesday night, you'll have the full SEC schedule release show and by schedule.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: We know the schedule.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, this is going to give you the kickoff times and stuff like that for the rest of the year.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_03]: But if you guys remember back to last year, we will certainly get some kickoff times this evening.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_03]: There will also be moments where it just says, hey, this is the flex spot of basically to do the morning or the afternoon
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, this is going to be a night game we can't tell you if it's six o'clock or seven o'clock stuff like that.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_03]: So I would say a bird don't have full expectations that you can fully plan the year quite yeah and I always love this night because I get to write out that game is flex that game was flex that game was flex but we're going to get at least some windows for the rest of the schedule after obviously the first couple of games were released here of these last couple of months.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, at least it'll give us a little bit of idea so we can at least, you know, plan some mornings, plan some evenings, things like that.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: But hey, it's a much better schedule than having no idea of when the schedules, the games are going to be until, you know, two weeks before the game, some cases a week before the game.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I, I like the way the SEC does it a little bit better.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, would it be nice to have, you know, a little bit firmer,
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: for people who are planning on especially road games, going to to visit those, it is nice to at least have an idea of what you're going to be expecting rather than having to keep the whole window open from 11 am all the way to, you know, seven, eight pm, you know, wide open, the other way that we used to do it back in the big 12 days.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the dreaded six day window anything we can do to stay away from the six day window.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_03]: I am absolutely cool with as well.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: So be sure you're headed to the website, Oakmasooners on s i dot com planning a stuff content overflowing as always.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_03]: But that'll start.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think it starts at six p.m on SEC network and then as we know, we definitely need an hour or even two hours to release stuff that could be emails.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, shout outs.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: I run at the SEC network.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_03]: They do a great job.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yada, yada.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yada.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yada, as you see, network is going to be posted up all week and long in Omaha, five of the eight squads that are going to be landing in Omaha, certainly from the SEC, and Carson, Oklahoma, and Alabama were the last two to qualify in technically.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_03]: It was not really in doubt once it got to Monday because it's a rain situation, but they're the last few
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: The Sooner's run continues, and it's landed them in the SEC invitation online, just calling the right half of the bracket.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's pretty remarkable at this point, seeing what they did to Georgia Tech now a week and a half ago and now Kansas, which maybe not to the same level of Georgia Tech, but like we talked about last week, a very good Kansas team that can pitch well, can hit well, they didn't do either of those things well against the suitors, and I think that's a big testament to how well OU is playing right now.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like you said, half of the bracket SEC will miss the only SEC on the other side.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you would have told me,
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: When this team entered the SEC tournament as the 11th seed, I would have told you that's about right.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: They probably are the 11th, maybe 12th, best team in this conference, but the last few weeks are all that matters in the grand scheme of chasing a national title.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: As long as you get in, of course, to the field of 64, but they've easily been one of the hottest teams in baseball, but it's not an easy draw, Bama.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: They lost two or three against this year.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: The other side of that game even more difficult with Georgia in Texas.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Georgia has
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: If Georgia Tech's offense is one age, Georgia's one B offense, has to go offense.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Texas has one of the best pitching staffs in the nation, a lot of bats like Aiden Robbins that can hit you.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: So three very good teams with the sooner or some of that side of the bracket, but I also wouldn't count on you out, just considering how well they've played it.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's the weirdest thing in the world.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: I feel on making a statement.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: They're one in five, combining its fam and Texas, and they didn't play Georgia this year.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: It was two games against Texas that were deep battles stuff like that that you could argue Oklahoma if they were in better shape at the times of the series.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_03]: They should have at least picked up two against Alabama.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_03]: You're looking at that second game on was that's was that a Friday then Saturday double header because the weather as far as that goes with Bama.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that second game on Saturday.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: I know that was the one that skipped himself and said like, yeah, I probably should have got that one done.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: If you remember back to the Texas series, it was like just a catastrophe, frankly, in the late innings of game two and game three.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a weird spot of like this team is obviously playing with a different level of confidence, a different level of composure, and A-burp.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: In Lawrence, it's sorry, like, in the first inning throwing down to first base, getting the pick out or third base excuse to get the pick off and going, yep, okay, instead of runners on the corners with one out, it's just throwing on first two outs that a lot.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think cord to settle in and he was phenomenal again.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: It was truly across the couple of games there were literally zero moments that I thought that there was any stress in Oklahoma's dugout.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_03]: That was BTA in Lawrence.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was, I think, one, you know, as we talked about last week, they were able to play so free because of, you know, the expectations, entering the tournament were, were, were nil, for Oklahoma, so everything was sort of playing with house money, but to the pitching staff, had just had everything under control.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: And when the bats were able to get rolling,
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: It was just, you know, nothing that anybody could do to really slow them down.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just incredible, the job that they've done, you know, turning things around, you expected out of skip Johnson and his pitching staff.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: They were able to do that and perform, you know, so much better than they had during the regular season.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, when it wasn't just one or two pitchers, it was, you know, on down the line.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: they're able to do that.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: You're getting innings from guys that you didn't expect.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: The guys who you did expect or come through in big time ways and they're able to keep rolling and I think that's why this team is a very dangerous one in Omaha.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it feels really similar to when they made the run to Omaha a few years ago.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now this pitching staff isn't loaded with the stars that that one was, but certainly the way that they're rolling right now, the way that the
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: feels like they've got a chance to, you know, not saying they will, but they've got a chance to make a run and do some damage in Omaha and be around, you know, at or near the end.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: John, I feel a little bit bad, highlighting only one batter in this line up because it has truly been one to nine, but when you look across the last nine games date and talkie six of the nine he's gone deep and I even thought the funny thing was on Sunday and game two they're rolling the second inning and date and comes up and it doesn't happen for them there and I was like, oh man.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_03]: As much as Oklahoma is going to be excited of what's happening right now, it's like, is that going to be the moment where he starts to cool off a little bit Kansas brings on the closer and he's like, no, by see as far as that goes, it's just been the heater has continued for him and it's just kind of incredible.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_03]: see and everything that he went through at the end of last year and kind of being scorching hot and having to just sit and rehab and try and heal up after going down injured, the ups and downs of this year.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: What an incredible way to even no matter what happens in Omaha to kind of close this very, very memorable 2026 season out for Mr. Talkie.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Dayton Talkie is a kind of a breath of fresh air and college athletics.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of these baseball players and I should say even softball and non-revenue type sports usually are, they're just a breath of fresh air.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he takes it to another level.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a kind of a John Crook, John Daley vibe to him that, you know, just, you know, hey, I'm just here to have fun and swing the bat, you know, he's got a fantastic attitude.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: walk off home run before the Kansas series and I talked to his mom last night Christie, Christie Gilpin and she's as I said on this podcast here last week when the best video of the NCAA tournament for me was horror watching his home run go out where she's got her face covered like this and you can see her eyes following the ball but her head's not was just kind of weird and eerie and cute and funny and
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that conversation sheet or that moment in our conversation last night.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: She called me back.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: She late night call, but a great conversation, writing about him this afternoon, and kind of hit the way he's been emblematic of this team this season.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: They both started red hot, you know, they both, he had a great, you know, start to the season as they go start 3-0.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think there were 11 and 2 at one point.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: They swept that tournament in Arlington.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: and you know he was he was batten great and then all of a sudden he goes into the slump guys he was literally over April over March and then four for April and the entire month and he was getting benched and he was not coming in and he was getting and nobody was happy about it but then he just kind of throws caution to the wind he gets back into line up against Tennessee
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: and in the NCAA tournament he has been on fire as his team has as well they've all been hitting and it's like they're following his lead and it's just a great story I'll have that again this afternoon about three o'clock probably I'll have the story posted before this podcast post so go back and listen to or go back and read the story Oklahoma Sooners on SI.com
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: can't wait to see them back out there again to be 2 o'clock central on Saturday the first came out in the SEC half of the College World Series.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_03]: Carson said this has been so steady for this group and it's been really fun to watch.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: They've certainly kind of embraced the pressures off moniker, all the pressures on Georgia Tech, all the pressures should be on Kansas.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about this a ton that the the atmospheres they've played in in conference play this year, Georgia Tech.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: sold out.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: Rock is atmosphere, but the numbers of fans and something that was never going to compare to playing down in like Baton Rouge or Austin.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: Same exact thing in Kansas.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: Their set records.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: It looked like a great crowd.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of you fans made their way up, but it could have been the most insane crowd that they've ever seen and it was not going to compare to some of something they saw in conference play.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: I want you to see this freshman pitching staff that has been phenomenal through the tournament when they get out to Omaha.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to be where it's like a little bit different for me.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: And a weird way you flip it less hostile, but more just the stage, everything that goes in to be out there at Charles Schwabe in Omaha.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that they're going to be able to keep swinging free and loose?
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: No, that's stuff.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_03]: Or is that going to be a moment where maybe you start to see it hit the like, oh crap.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_03]: This is like the pinnacle of college baseball.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: We are here.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: They have to, if they want to make a run, I mean, it is even though it isn't as hostile per se, it's not as one side of this playing in the SEC on the road or at Georgia Tech at Kansas.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: It is the biggest stage in college baseball, so they've got to keep this kind of
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, underdog mentality, if that's what you want to call that, I mean, it's it's a big brand.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure the nation sees Oklahoma as an underdog, but they're unseated teams like Ole Miss Troy.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: They are also unseated.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I would consider those stuff three, cool underdogs.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, according to the committee, they shouldn't be in.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: They are in.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're playing really good baseball.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: They just need to need to keep that same mentality.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's important, but they are battle tested.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: I put out a tweet before the tournament started about these are all the teams that they played in the regular season.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: These teams were hosting regional.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think there were five of them.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: These teams were two scenes.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: These teams were three scenes.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: Very few of them are still alive at this point.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Bama and Texas, I believe, are the only two that they play in.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's seeing teams like Florida, Arkansas, and then Arizona State.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like a mis-tenacy, yeah, I mean, it was just, it was a really, really tough schedule this year.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that if you can just get through that, get to the tournament, that can pay dividends in the tournament and then specifically in a high-pressure situation like Omaha.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, and everything you said is correct just now, except for unless you're a big 12 conference team playing in the national championship game against an SEC team that is going for its first national title in any sport.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then when the sooner fans show up, they can expect to be outnumbered.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: At least four to one, five to one, most people said, some SEC fans said, now it's more like 10 to one.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: That was an obscene.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: just absolute wipeout in the fans when from from from the fans in balance between Ole Miss fans in 2022 in the final series against OU fans.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: OU fans showed up in good numbers Ole Miss fans showed up and sold out the entire city.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was unbelievable.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: So uh, think I saw a tweet from Joke Stigley on saying sooner fans, you're going to be needed in Omaha this week.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: uh... and if they get to the championship game he needs to send that tweet out again and maybe an email and maybe some phone calls as well because oh you fans need to if they get to the finals again they need to show up this time
- 38:22[SPEAKER_03]: It is a long haul before you get to anything like that, those we know that the cultural series takes a good amount of time to get through.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: Good news is it looks like outside of some scattered showers this weekend.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: It shouldn't be like a day is we're going to get washed out, which moves things around, which will be like a first focal home.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: And this post sees is they have been in mom's soon.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: Now of course the biggest chance for rain is on Saturday because of course it's going to be on Saturday but I think that it might be a more of a it's a good chance of scattered storms and actually leave almost some perfect baseball playing whether outside of you can avoid that on Saturday and the good bit too is that you've got some schools that you look around Oklahoma side of the brackets, specifically that Alabama working their way back.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: uh... it's been a while for that wall this roster hasn't quite experienced it skip who is i think been masterful and pushing all the right buttons in both at land and then uh... in lords going to be another situation where it's it's like full faith in skip he's guided a team through this before and we'll see what happens and a little bit added bonus two of by pure happenstance in the season court happened to be banged up
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: during the Alabama series.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_03]: So it's someone that you can go out there as a freshman and it's the first time name is going to see him.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe a little built-in advantage from making the best of a situation that you ideally would have been pitch all year obviously and not have to deal with that.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_03]: But we shall see as that gets going at two o'clock again, two o'clock on Saturday, then they'll be back at it again on Monday and I just think it'd be fun.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_03]: If all you in Texas match results, whether good or bad,
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: Georgia and OU and Texas on Monday at the College World Series.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, come on.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_03]: Greg Sanky is going to be walking into the hospitality suite of the NCAA.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: Be like, you're welcome and you're welcome.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: Do any ESPN execs want to thank me.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_03]: You're welcome as well.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to look like Vince McMahon.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's just, he's, well, he's getting it.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he has quite the walk that, uh, he'll, he'll, he'll, he'll be walking.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be strut when he walks into the media room.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, who'd guys though, uh, as far as Ben's goes.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_03]: So, I excited to get that go on.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, Mr. is onsite.com.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, full coverage for everything as the Sooners make their way or they are in Omaha by the time that you've listened.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_03]: So this, not the only Diamond Sports happening, though, real quick, we'll do a portal check in.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_03]: It finally happened, the worst kept secret in softball capacity-pickering, enters the transfer portal on Monday.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: Ryan, it's going to be a spot where I wrote about this yesterday.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: Anytime you're a place in somebody who had a month-long slump and still finished hitting 372 with 20 home runs, it was either 6200 C2 RBIs.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's a big hole in any line up that you have to replace, but I think maybe even bigger than that.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma had three players, Cassie, Ella Parker, and Nellie Macadoma Renes, and Nellie even to a lesser extent because she was hurt during this year, but they had three players who got to watch C.R.A.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.J.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's hard to lose that kind of bridge where you have that experience and that first experience and it was TREGA and the Doug at, yes, all that stuff.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: But hard to replace that when it comes to trying to put together your lineup into 2027.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know doubt about it, you know, but at the same time, it was something that we sort of saw coming.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we had sort of skirted around it, but the fact that, you know, she didn't really play the field this year.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: As, you know, Ella Parker emerged as just a fantastic right fielder and then obviously Abby Dayton and Kai Miner in the outfield.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: So there wasn't as much defensive need.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, for her and then, uh, you know, Cassie Pickering started out, had a, you know, overall really good season offensively, but the, the slump that you mentioned, uh, it just, it just felt like maybe it was time for her to move on and, uh, find another home.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think it'll be, you know, we'll see what they are able to do in the portal.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: Incoming wise, to replace that, but certainly a lot of production missed from Cassidy Pickering, but not one, like we said, it was unexpected, given the goings on and we'll see where she winds up, but
- 42:55[SPEAKER_03]: down there in love with everything we've just talked about yeah she played for the Nelson hot shots if you just connect some dot a lot of the Nelson hot shots weird they all are going to Texas Tech weird how that happens although it would be hilarious I do think Texas has a good chat to swoop in and drop a bag on the front porch of the esitoras when Texas Tech just thought that was all wrapped up so that would be that that led hilarious I know that a lot of people don't like rooting for Mike White but I will be rooting for Mike White.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_03]: pretty bad just because before we get on to who's stayed on the roster's real quick ABER, Oklahoma has signed Peyton Westerut, which we talked about, South America's number one overall outfielder, number one overall player, who else was the number one overall outfield number one overall play?
- 43:35[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Kai Miner!
- 43:35[SPEAKER_03]: That was who was the softball-american top person from the year before.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: That worked out pretty well.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: I would certainly say that someone who could be battling for that spot out in left because obviously I'd be date and graduated as well.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_03]: I would say that Cindy Barker or she likes to stay.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_03]: I know that a lot of the her work was split between the first base battle initially this year and then over at third what's definitely got hurt.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_03]: But if you remember,
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: When she was not given Sid Sanders a couple days off, she was a picture out in right field for Oklahoma at the end of the 2024 season.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: Alyssa Parker is a human that can play anywhere, so I'm not going to I'll throw her into every position battle potentially just because.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_03]: they're going to find a place for all that stuff plus like we said for in the portal between Pickering, Balloy, the Zacase, that means hopefully we can get four out, I would imagine they're going to target a veteran out today.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_03]: Is anybody else that would be in the mix that you're thinking of as far as that goes?
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: No, not to it stands out to me right now, but obviously they're going to be really aggressive in attacking that, you know, and maybe not the same financially is, you know, that that school that we've been talking about quite a bit.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: But they're going to be aggressive and try to add I think the biggest thing for this team that it needs is leadership, whether that's internal or bringing in somebody who's used to having that kind of role.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's the one thing that was really missing vocal leadership on this team as good as Cassidy Pickering was, as good as, you know, some of these other players were, they weren't able to really grab hold of that.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: Now, on the roster, I think the one player that you really look at is having that ability is kind of well.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: And we saw her take on much more of that role as the season went on.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think she can continue to become a bigger and bigger piece.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to shock me if she winds up wearing that seat at some point during her career, but you know, for all the things that they need to address and there's plenty, I think leadership is one of the biggest that they need to add in whoever that they bring aboard in the portal.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_03]: Another thing that's good for that is players just getting another year more comfortable.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: We've not had, this is not quite the football method that we've seen from like USC was, I think the first one that I remember like straight up announcing.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't agreed to a deal, they return, so on, so on, so on, so on, so on, so on, so on.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_03]: But I feel weird, but it is 26, so whatever.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: If you go on Instagram, my little chagno has,
- 46:04[SPEAKER_03]: uh... posted she posted on sunday basically uh... already miss you soon or nation can't wait to get back at um... other players that have posted similar vibes chai minor his posted a similar vibe the big one gabby Garcia today wins day posted a sea when august which she was another one that i can just tell you straight up a brand i have heard the rumblings we were on top of it trying to uh... sort back from fiction and it certainly has sounded like local home was getting some
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: Ducks in a road to make sure that they did not lose a Gabby Garcia, and that was obviously a very, very positive post out there didn't say like exactly.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm coming back, but see you in August with all the stuff I think we can all infer.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just support for another one that has posted similar vibes.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_03]: Audrey Lauery just posted a season look back stuff like that.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_03]: So it seems like on the retention front, it's been really, really good news so far.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: This is not like I'm hearing things, I'm just saying when you have someone that hits down near 40 home runs as a freshman and tell the portal is closed, you'll always be on the lookout just because but Kind of Well seems to be pretty, when I talk to you know in our exclusive this year she just talked about looking up to Kinsey Hansen and Jocelyn, T.R.J.D.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_03]: and wanting to play for J.T.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_03]: Gaston paddigan.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_03]: We'd be pretty surprised but that'd be the most things ever that like the races that run into the races where I'm
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it certainly feels like they've done a good job of retaining.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: And if these are the players that you lose, obviously, you know, could they have used Cassidy Pickering next year?
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, could they have used Berkeley's decay in particular, absolutely.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: But given, you know, the outlook that we thought we might see a couple weeks ago, this is about as good of an outcome as you could have expected again.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: the porn is still open so you know keep an eye out but if this is this is the group that they lose I think they feel really good about their job retaining their players.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think who did you have something to add on a Cassidy Pickering situation?
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just, I mean, if you think about Ryan mentioned a minute ago, Kenzie Hanson, she got some attention this week, number one, her and Kobe McKenzie are expecting their first child.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: Congratulations.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Number two, she put out a tweet that said theoretical hypothetical question, if somebody offered you a million dollars to leave your job, would you do it?
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: something along those lines without offering any details or anything like that.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think she said to work for your competition or something like that.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to work for the competition, you know, and most of the people said, yes, I would leave or what am I making at my last job?
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's the big question is what was Cassidy Pickering making at her last job, which is oh, you, of course.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's the deal.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: We all know the dreadful slump that she went on.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty epic.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: She was 9 of 50 at the plate, which is a 180 batting average after the Kentucky series, I think.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: 9 of 50.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty bad.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_00]: And here's a deal.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody, and I mean, nobody would have given her more chances to get it figured out than Patty Gasso.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: That included one game where Patty somehow inexplicably battered her fifth behind Kendall Wells.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Kendall went over that game.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think Cassidy went over that game.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then you see Kendall going to a little slump at the end of the season.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: But starting in April, her batting average was 455 when the season ended, it dropped every game until she finally planted it at 370.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, Holy cow, Patty gave her chance after chance after chance, and, you know, to get out of that slump, and you go and leave when the season's over, it's kind of slap in the face, which is, that's what the transfer portal is now, you know.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: who to your point it wasn't like this is a line up where she had to put Cassidy Pickering in the lineup.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Alyssa Parker and Lexi McDaniel there, you know, to to use at any point and both of those were very productive hitters, you know, particularly Lexi McDaniel late in the year.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: And yet she still kept running Cassidy Pickering out there, you know, even through all that slump that you're talking about.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now, correct me if you guys think I'm wrong, but it felt like Cassidy was looking back on it.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like Cassie was kind of checked out about mid-season when that slump started.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: She hadn't announced anything yet where she's going, but with the do-not-contact tag, that tells you she's made up her mind and she knows where she's going, and all indications are, it's Texas Check.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Texas Check.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Tampa Tech.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Tampa Tech.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: What did I just say?
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: Tampa Tech?
- 50:52[SPEAKER_00]: What the heck is that?
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, who, of course, I mean, Tampa Check.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Texas Tech, there I said it.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like she's going to Texas Tech, right?
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, that would seem to be the direction of Trump.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_03]: The funny thing about this is she's not enough to anything for herself.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: It was just that Justin McClad had deal with softball who is on top of the portal.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: And that where the thing is if you're on the social medias over the weekend, or if you just got a good eye on the ESPN broadcast, you could see
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of wells was up in Lawrence hanging out, Cassie Pickering up in Lawrence, hanging out, Ella Parker, where I believe's dating Cara Johnson, and then that crew was up there for supers happening.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: They were on the field.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_03]: Cassie was on an Instagram live with the the Maccurious Bros, like congratulate them and all that stuff on her way back as it was reported on Monday that she was into the portal.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, shout out to college sports.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: It also just shows you that, uh, as much as we on the outside of the kind of girl,
- 51:49[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh, college athletics, the player just like, yeah, this is kind of just normal.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: This is what we do.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't mean we're not friends all that stuff.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: So we will see as far as that goes.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_03]: Couple more just quick hits before we get out of here.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_03]: Congrats to Sahara.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: William, she's a 33-year-old champ with the USA, Team USA 33 team.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: Cars on the men's basketball side, we feel like we're getting the finishing touches on this schedule, the home and home with SNU as an ounce.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: SECA, SECA on a big 12 SECA challenge upon it will be Syracuse to get a little bit of a new era and maybe we get mellow coming through to the announced to the LNC.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Syracuse game, that's a good game.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously big brand hasn't been great in a while.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that least that should excite fans and alums other than that, the home site sucks.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you look at games against Campbell, Mississippi Valley State, East Texas A&M.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's a rough slate.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's not really a way to sugarcoat it.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, you look at the road games, the non-conference games, it's not horrible.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you see games against us in new areas on a state, pit, Purdue.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: I like what they're able to do as far as building
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that I said this last year too.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: They should have dispersed it better get at least two or three of those games at home Get it some fan interest before conference season.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: Syracuse games great.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad the ACC CC challenge is back It should be a fun matchup new coach.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's Syracuse they should be better this year, but aside from that it's just
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to appeal to fans when the team's been this inconsistent as it's been, they're not playing anybody good outside of your use at home.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a little puzzling that didn't add more to this year's say, obviously, SMU will make the return trip next year, but in the meantime, it's going to be hard to get excited, especially if football is as good as we think it could be this year.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_03]: lucky they caught Syracuse after a coaching change has been run it back.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that even that would be a game.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, well, that's a name on a jersey that looks fun, but the game itself.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_03]: And part of it is
- 53:46[SPEAKER_03]: Porter and he had been a telly.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the SEC we get every game you want, which is great and it's true, but it's like he said Carson that when the fans don't get to see a single worthwhile win at home and then you get to SEC play, which has been up and down, as big 12 play was up and down, it's just not a lot of moments to have some good vibes and build excitement.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_03]: I understand that some of these two trial site games, and Porter talked about it last year that
- 54:10[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, part of what they have to do with the spot that they're in is play some of the neutral site games that are in iL neutral site games, which I don't have a problem with, but it just sucks that it feels like it's all over there.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like any somewhat attractive matchup immediately gets taken out of the LNC.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really count the bed limit in a pick-on with that, because I think that's been a great setup for what they've done there.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: But like taking games to the B.O.K.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_03]: Center, the B.O.K.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_03]: Center is garbage.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, who to watch a basketball game in, it's just old and gross.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_03]: get it send everyone up to Tulsa and it's just terrible.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's all right.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's a contract video.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's not a sports video.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we saw that with the and Arkansas fans took it over anyway when they played.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you an Arkansas up at B.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see as far as that go still a little bit away.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's hard to engage with like college basketball season.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: We still have a college football season stuff like that.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_03]: to get to, but we did want to close with this just terrible news, terrible news on Sunday.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: I saw first from Shoms as he tossed out there that OU legend bulls legends, Stacey King had passed away, obviously a big portion of the first three titles.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_03]: of the 90s bulls then he's been around in Chicago for every 20 years on the broadcast starting up in 2006 and he's known that if you're a league pass head like me and you've got nothing else happening we're going to be a ties to Oklahoma you were stopping it with the bulls broadcast because Stacy was just that good and my relationship to Stacy King guys is a lot through.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_03]: my mom and my dad, right?
- 55:38[SPEAKER_03]: They were at OU when Stacey and Wayman and the crew were absolutely crushing.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_03]: Stacey is one of my mom's absolute favorite players.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: So that was always pointed out and brought up and anytime any kind of the OU retro games get rolled up there, that's always my mom's stopping in when I'm growing up to watch Wayman and Stacey in the crew.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_03]: But if you had no personal connection, which is almost impossible around here,
- 56:01[SPEAKER_03]: I always judge off the, just look at the outpouring from the basketball world, college basketball, pro basketball, everyone sharing all their Stacy King stories on Sunday and in the Monday, it's who, one of those things where the people will tell you how they feel about someone like that and I think you saw that that Stacy King is just a tight in the game and it's a guy that very rarely do you to call one place home, much less give to call Oklahoma and Chicago home
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, man, it's so sad, 59 years old, and it was giving so much to the Game of Basketball because he had received so much.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: He was viewed around these parts, especially in Norman and to a fan base that really, really fell in love with Billy Ball.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: He was viewed as kind of a second coming and Waman Tisdale, and what I mean by that is both on the court and off.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, nobody smiled more, nobody was more friendly, nobody was more accommodating, nobody signed more autographs and put their arms around, you know, small kids.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: uh... for pictures more than payment his day or stacy king i mean they were both just great human beings he was to me he was kind of a throwback you look at it now in the context of twenty twenty six and everything that's happened since he played uh... he was throwback man he came in as a freshman behind waman thinking i'm gonna be the next big thing and freshman year plays in fourteen games barely got on the floor uh... sophomore year he's like okay it's gonna be my year
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: came in and started every game I think or just about every game ended up sophomore year seven points three point nine rebounds per game he's like okay I'm going to go back to work he goes back to work and the next year they go to the national championship game and should have won probably probably a huge lost opportunity I remember watching that game with just bitter disappointment
- 57:49[SPEAKER_00]: that they had lost to Danny Manning of Kansas, unseated Kansas of all of all people.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's senior year, you know, he goes from being the national championship game, you know, run hero almost to, you know, he's all big 12 or I'll big a big player the year, all turn and all this stuff.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_00]: thank you average twenty three points again that year uh... twenty yeah twenty three points again comes back for a senior year and he's even better uh... average twenty six points again he's first team all american's national player the year from sporting news
- 58:23[SPEAKER_00]: What a tremendous story of just come in.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm from Lotno, Oklahoma.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: I want to play for the Seniors.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh crap, I didn't get to play much my freshman year.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's okay, I'll come back as a sophomore and do it even better.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: I still didn't get to play as much as I wanted to.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't get to put up the numbers, but then he's junior year senior year.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's the best player in the country.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: So what a tremendous tale.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it's too bad that we don't have literally zero of those kinds of guys anymore.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: It seems.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that's just the reality of college sports right now, but for me growing up in Oklahoma, there were three sooners that really were above and beyond everybody else.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_02]: And that was, you know, on the football side, Brian Bosworth and Keith Jackson for me, Keith Jackson is the player that I grew up just just loving Bosworth obviously, but on the basketball side, Stacey King,
- 59:21[SPEAKER_02]: As we talked about, just the joy that he showed playing the game of basketball really emanated out that team in 1988 was, you know, the ultimate for me as far as, you know, being a 10 year old watching college sports and the numbers that they were able to create, the Billy Ball, everything, but to have Stacy King, Mookie Blaylock, you know, Harvey Grant
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: What they were able to do was just incredible in Stacey King was at the pinnacle of that and then also a bull's fan And to be able to see the job that he did in the NBA and be able to become the voice of the bulls and and become such a respected Voice in basketball was just in incredible, you know, he will leave a long legacy behind in both places and Stacey King will be missed
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_03]: absolutely and all the thoughts and prayers certainly out to not just the family but the cuties in Latin Norman Chicago, the way he is, his fingerprints are all over it and it just terrible news to hear terrible news to see.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_03]: I know that a lot of people almost did like the double take because it was coming too because it wasn't, hey, we had known that some of the sick or stuff like that, it's just so sudden and
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_03]: I know that like talking to our good buddy Bob Perseville, he was talking about like finally the bulls were going to get a top draft pick that Stacey's going to be able to be like finally someone to be excited about for the first time in a while so terrible terrible news but I'm excited for Oklahoma had talked about it and Porter Moser had talked about it and what are you uniquely like perfectly placed guy to talk about the legacies in both Norman and Chicago Porter Moser you get a great statement out.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, uh, I'm excited to see that the program had said obviously there'll be almost like a year of remembrance as far as things that they're going to be able to do to honor Stacy King this season and beyond some that should be something to look forward to to try and that remember Uh, what was, you know, an incredibly packed book we're on and up before certainly for both the suitors and elsewhere, but
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_03]: As far as we this week, that's all we've got here.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back next week recapping everything from the opening salvos in Omaha.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly we'll keep our ear to the ground as far as portal happenings recruiting.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_03]: All that fun stuff will have a schedule and it's crazy that we'll look up.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_03]: And we'll be about a month away from SEC media day.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_03]: A little bit more than that month than change.
