- 0:01Speaker 1: I don't want to date you.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Well, that was harsh.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Do you think mister Simon is going to replace me?
- 0:08Speaker 4: No, a servant who wants a story about a servant?
- 0:23Speaker 5: I'm miss Jean.
- 0:24Speaker 6: Join me on a trip to Discovery Mountain, where the
- 0:27Speaker 6: air is clear, clear enough to hear your imagination, and
- 0:31Speaker 6: where every day is an exercise in faith. Join me
- 0:35Speaker 6: for today's expedition. The first full day of summer camp
- 0:51Speaker 6: has begun. The campers are anxious to get started with
- 0:55Speaker 6: the day's activities, and the staff, well, some of the
- 0:59Speaker 6: staff are just plain anxious. Natasha is worried about her granddad.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Mister Simon. He sounded serious when he told her he
- 1:07Speaker 6: needed to talk to her, But what could it be about?
- 1:11Speaker 6: Camp Director Joyce is worried that she hasn't been as
- 1:14Speaker 6: efficient and organized as a camp director should be. Ever
- 1:18Speaker 6: since mister Garcia's conversation with Joyce, he's begun to worry
- 1:23Speaker 6: just the teensiest little bit that the wonderful costumes that
- 1:27Speaker 6: he borrowed might not end up being free after all.
- 1:32Speaker 6: And Hattie, she might be more worried than anyone else.
- 1:36Speaker 6: She's the activities director, but is the special activity that
- 1:40Speaker 6: she spent so much time planning going to end up
- 1:44Speaker 6: being a failure. She'll find out later this morning when
- 1:47Speaker 6: the first campers arrive at the craft tent. Well, right
- 1:51Speaker 6: now the cafeteria is filled with campers and staff enjoying
- 1:56Speaker 6: pancakes and fresh blueberries. Let's join them for today's episode
- 2:01Speaker 6: called Seriously Serving.
- 2:05Speaker 4: This is going to be the Awesomest summer camp ever, Hugo.
- 2:09Speaker 7: Awesomest isn't even a word.
- 2:12Speaker 4: It is now Cyrus.
- 2:14Speaker 8: That's counselor Cyrus to you, Hugo, at least this week.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Okay, okay, counselor Cyrus. But you know it's going to
- 2:22Speaker 4: be the awesomest. James has such cool stuff for us
- 2:25Speaker 4: to do.
- 2:26Speaker 9: Henry and I want to do the ropes course.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Don't forget the climbing wall, Luke.
- 2:30Speaker 10: Oh and James is working on an offstacker course too.
- 2:34Speaker 4: That's right, Jackson, my man. Awesomest summer camp ever.
- 2:39Speaker 11: Chunselor Addison, what are we doing first? Today? Natalia and
- 2:43Speaker 11: I want to go swimming.
- 2:45Speaker 10: I want to try my new swim goggles.
- 2:47Speaker 12: You get a chance to swim later this morning. We're
- 2:49Speaker 12: going to the craft at first. That's what I was
- 2:51Speaker 12: hoping for. You're very artistic, aren't you, Piper.
- 2:55Speaker 7: I love drawing and painting and making things.
- 2:58Speaker 13: Those are okay, I guess, but I prefer STEM activities.
- 3:04Speaker 9: STEM activities.
- 3:05Speaker 13: STEMS stands for science, technology, engineering, and math, the really
- 3:10Speaker 13: important stuff.
- 3:12Speaker 12: You know, Lily, STEM is being replaced really now. It's
- 3:16Speaker 12: usually called steam. Steam the a stance for art.
- 3:22Speaker 13: Yay, art, Well, what does art have to do with science, technology,
- 3:27Speaker 13: engineering or math?
- 3:29Speaker 12: Well, art is intertwined, like campy, the robotics team use
- 3:33Speaker 12: art to create the cute little robot.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Remember.
- 3:36Speaker 11: Oh yeah, robotics is steam.
- 3:39Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 12: Lots of things are Like if a musician understands the
- 3:43Speaker 12: physics of sound, they can create better music, right, I
- 3:47Speaker 12: guess so, And an artist who understands chemistry can choose
- 3:51Speaker 12: and use better paids. Leonardo da Vinci combined art and science.
- 3:55Speaker 12: Ever heard of him?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Uh?
- 3:57Speaker 11: Yeah, he's like super famous.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So let's give art a chance.
- 4:01Speaker 12: When we go to the craft tent, miss Hattie's activity
- 4:03Speaker 12: is going to be super fun.
- 4:06Speaker 13: Sounds like you're trying a bit too hard to convince me,
- 4:09Speaker 13: but okay, I'm all for steam.
- 4:12Speaker 9: Full steam ahead.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Meanwhile, across the cafeteria, James, I really need your help.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Oh I don't know, Hottie.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I can help. I'll be checking all the activity areas
- 4:26Speaker 3: today anyway, you know, being a more hands on camp director.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Thanks, Joyce, but I need James for this to work.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh okay, look, Hattie, I'd love to help out, but
- 4:37Speaker 1: I just can't right now. But James, I have to
- 4:41Speaker 1: go to Trekkers right after breakfast, and after that I'll
- 4:43Speaker 1: be supervising kids at the climbing wall for the rest
- 4:45Speaker 1: of the day.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Trekkers, are there supplies you still need?
- 4:49Speaker 2: I could get them for you.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Thanks, But I have something to discuss with mister Simon.
- 4:55Speaker 11: What about?
- 4:56Speaker 1: Oh hey, look at the time, I better get going.
- 5:00Speaker 7: Talk to you later, James Holt.
- 5:04Speaker 3: What are you and mister Simon up to?
- 5:07Speaker 11: And at another table?
- 5:10Speaker 14: Harold, Harold, Now what Janet? Look over there at the
- 5:16Speaker 14: staff table? What about it?
- 5:19Speaker 9: So you sitting together again?
- 5:21Speaker 7: Yes, a bunch of the staff.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Harold, you know good and well when I'm talking about
- 5:27Speaker 3: Hattie and James.
- 5:29Speaker 14: Yes, and I don't think it's any of our business.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But aren't you the teensiest little bit curious?
- 5:35Speaker 3: No?
- 5:35Speaker 6: Not really, Well, I think this needs to be investigated.
- 5:38Speaker 14: And I think I'm going to have another pancake before
- 5:42Speaker 14: Logan and Kyler eat them all.
- 5:46Speaker 11: Mia, I wish you were here.
- 5:51Speaker 6: As the campers and staff finish their pancakes. It's clean
- 5:54Speaker 6: up time.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Hey, Natasha, your cabin's doing archery next right right, Brianna
- 6:00Speaker 3: and Haley are finishing up the dishes, and then we'll
- 6:02Speaker 3: be right over. I'll walk with you. There's something I
- 6:06Speaker 3: want to ask you.
- 6:07Speaker 10: Brianna and I are done, Miss Natasha.
- 6:09Speaker 15: Quick work, awesome, and here come Jennet and Lanta. All right, Brianna,
- 6:14Speaker 15: you all head to the archery range. Miss Holton, I
- 6:16Speaker 15: will be right behind you.
- 6:18Speaker 10: Race you guys, it's on no food.
- 6:22Speaker 11: We weren't ready.
- 6:26Speaker 16: You want to raise?
- 6:26Speaker 11: Do you? Joyce? No way?
- 6:29Speaker 16: Okay, spill it. What's bothering you?
- 6:34Speaker 9: Natasha?
- 6:35Speaker 3: How do you think I'm doing?
- 6:37Speaker 4: Well?
- 6:37Speaker 16: You're definitely worried about something.
- 6:40Speaker 3: No, I mean, as camp director.
- 6:43Speaker 16: Oh well, why do you ask?
- 6:46Speaker 3: I was just wondering if you might have heard anything
- 6:49Speaker 3: like from mister Simon.
- 6:50Speaker 16: Heard anything about you?
- 6:52Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 6:53Speaker 3: No, would you tell me if you had? Did he
- 6:57Speaker 3: make you promise not to say anything?
- 6:59Speaker 7: Joyce?
- 6:59Speaker 16: What are are you getting at.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Do you think mister Simon is going to replace me.
- 7:04Speaker 15: Replace you? Why would he and who would he replace
- 7:08Speaker 15: you with? Being camp director is hard. It's not like
- 7:12Speaker 15: any of us are lining up for the job.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Don't be too sure you.
- 7:16Speaker 16: Think someone's trying to get your job?
- 7:18Speaker 11: Who James?
- 7:20Speaker 16: Oh, don't be ridiculous.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I'm not being ridiculous. Surely you've noticed how much more
- 7:26Speaker 3: involved James is this year.
- 7:28Speaker 16: Oh, I guess so.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Your granddad mentioned he thought a rope's course would be
- 7:34Speaker 3: nice to have someday, and James ran with it. When
- 7:37Speaker 3: he wasn't in class, he was studying plans and researching regulations.
- 7:41Speaker 16: He was certainly dedicated to the project, and.
- 7:44Speaker 3: He was constantly on the phone fundraising and recruiting volunteers
- 7:48Speaker 3: to build it.
- 7:49Speaker 15: Okay, I agree James has really stepped up his game,
- 7:52Speaker 15: But what makes you think he wants your job?
- 7:55Speaker 3: He as much as said so, he offered to take
- 7:58Speaker 3: over some of my duties, and he and mister Simon
- 8:01Speaker 3: are definitely up to something.
- 8:03Speaker 16: We have been talking a lot lately, haven't they.
- 8:06Speaker 3: And they don't seem to want anyone to know what
- 8:08Speaker 3: it's about.
- 8:09Speaker 15: Look, Joyce, you're probably worrying for nothing, but I promise
- 8:13Speaker 15: to let you know if I hear anything.
- 8:16Speaker 3: In the meantime, I'm stepping up my game too, and
- 8:19Speaker 3: trying to be the best camp director I can.
- 8:21Speaker 16: Be, and the best archery instructor too.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Now that's a target.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I know I can hit.
- 8:32Speaker 8: All Right, guys, go in and pick a table to
- 8:34Speaker 8: sit at for nearly counselor Cyrus the craft tent.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Why can't we go see what James is doing with
- 8:40Speaker 4: the obstacle course?
- 8:42Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:42Speaker 10: When do we get to do the actual fun stuff?
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:46Speaker 12: Doesn't sound like your guys are very enthusiastic, Cyrus.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Want to switch places, Addison, Your cabin seems a lot easier.
- 8:53Speaker 12: Not necessarily, I have Lily, I'll.
- 8:57Speaker 7: Trade you for Hugo and Jackson.
- 8:59Speaker 12: Oh, I'm guessing how can win them over. She's been
- 9:01Speaker 12: planning a really great activity for.
- 9:03Speaker 2: The kids, A moment of truth, Hattie. Let's hope this works.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Yeah, something exciting like making pot holders paint rocks.
- 9:16Speaker 9: There are rolling pins on the tables.
- 9:17Speaker 11: Are we baking something? It's the craft tent, Piper, not
- 9:21Speaker 11: the baking tent.
- 9:23Speaker 2: But we will be baking something, Lily, huh hmm.
- 9:28Speaker 10: Baking might be okay, if it's something good like cookies.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Yeah, Jackson, so we have energy for James obsco course.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Oh no, you won't be eating anything you bake here.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You might break a tooth.
- 9:43Speaker 12: Oh, don't keep us in suspense, Hattie. We want to
- 9:46Speaker 12: know what your special project is.
- 9:48Speaker 2: The first thing we're gonna do is learn about slab pottery.
- 9:53Speaker 11: Slab pottery, yes.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Pottery, which is made from a flat sheet of clay.
- 10:00Speaker 2: So that's what the rolling pins are for.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Yeah, to make a plate for the cookies we don't
- 10:05Speaker 4: get to bake.
- 10:06Speaker 11: I'm gonna make a vase for my mom, a boring
- 10:09Speaker 11: old face. I'm gonna make a volcano at the top.
- 10:13Speaker 11: I'll put a.
- 10:13Speaker 13: Hole you can fill with baking soda and vinegar and
- 10:16Speaker 13: make exploding lava. We're making tea cups, teacups like my
- 10:22Speaker 13: grandma uses or the Queen of England.
- 10:25Speaker 10: Good question, kid.
- 10:26Speaker 11: Stop calling me kid.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I don't like tea.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Well, these aren't gonna hold tea. Now we're gonna make
- 10:35Speaker 2: special cups. They're gonna be tall and narrow.
- 10:39Speaker 16: Hmm.
- 10:39Speaker 10: Now this is mysterious.
- 10:41Speaker 11: What's going in the cups?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Well, you'll have to make it to find out who's.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Ready, Poor Hattie, it doesn't look like her idea is
- 10:52Speaker 6: going over very well. Well the campers enjoy this activity,
- 10:56Speaker 6: we'll find out right after this break. Let's head back
- 11:02Speaker 6: into the craft tent and see how the pottery activity
- 11:05Speaker 6: is going so far.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Counselor, Cyrus, why can't we be doing something with James?
- 11:11Speaker 4: Look at this, Clai Lump.
- 11:13Speaker 7: You just have to focus, Hugo.
- 11:15Speaker 10: But we want to do something fun.
- 11:18Speaker 2: This will be fun, Jackson. But it's going to be
- 11:21Speaker 2: more than that.
- 11:22Speaker 11: What do you mean We're.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Gonna have a challenge with a special meaning. How many
- 11:26Speaker 2: of you like going to Miss Michelle's cafe. It's more
- 11:33Speaker 2: than just a cafe, though, isn't it.
- 11:35Speaker 9: It's a bakery too.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Well, yes, Luke, but it's even more. Miss Michelle isn't
- 11:41Speaker 2: just serving lemonade and brownies. She's serving people.
- 11:45Speaker 10: H seriously serving.
- 11:47Speaker 13: Of course, she serves them. They can't just help themselves
- 11:50Speaker 13: to her cookies.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Too bad.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Has anyone here ever taken the famous cafe lemonade challenge?
- 12:00Speaker 8: Y'o, you're missing out. The lemonade challenge is epic.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Exactly, Cyrus. Can you describe it for the campus?
- 12:07Speaker 8: Well, the thing is you have to find a tall
- 12:10Speaker 8: cup and pour lemonade right to the top, then carry
- 12:14Speaker 8: it slowly no spilling, and serve it to someone.
- 12:18Speaker 11: That's sort of interesting.
- 12:19Speaker 10: Oh, let's try it and race to see as the fastest.
- 12:23Speaker 2: No, you're getting way ahead of me, Jackson. Listen at
- 12:27Speaker 2: the end of the lemonade challenge. What do you do, Cyrus?
- 12:30Speaker 7: Oh, you drink lemonade together.
- 12:32Speaker 17: Yes, and you sit sipping lemonade, and it's much easier
- 12:36Speaker 17: to start conversations, to make new friends and then to
- 12:40Speaker 17: introduce them to their friend Jesus.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Huh.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Why because God wants us to he does. Yes, Hospitality
- 12:49Speaker 2: it's a spiritual gift.
- 12:50Speaker 12: Hey, I was just reading about that. I think it
- 12:53Speaker 12: was Romans twelve thirteen.
- 12:56Speaker 2: That's right, Addison. It says, supply the needs of God's
- 13:00Speaker 2: people extend hospitality to strangers.
- 13:04Speaker 9: God wants us to take strangers to the hospital.
- 13:09Speaker 11: Hospitality, Luke, not hospital.
- 13:12Speaker 9: What does hospitality mean?
- 13:14Speaker 4: It means we're having a lemonade party instead of doing
- 13:17Speaker 4: something fun.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Look, you'll understand more about this as we go along,
- 13:22Speaker 2: I hope. Right now, let's keep rolling out our clay.
- 13:27Speaker 10: Looks like summer camp might not be as fun as
- 13:30Speaker 10: we thought it.
- 13:30Speaker 9: Would be, Hugo.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Then we'll just have to make it fun.
- 13:34Speaker 8: Hey, Addison, Patty's idea isn't going over too well, not
- 13:38Speaker 8: with my campers anyway.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Poor LILYI but they'll come around.
- 13:42Speaker 7: I hope. So you've done the lemonade challenge, right.
- 13:45Speaker 12: I mean yeah, but I'm terrible at it.
- 13:48Speaker 7: Hey, maybe this summer you'll get better.
- 13:51Speaker 2: We'll see well. Anyway.
- 13:53Speaker 12: Next we go to mister Garcia's and all the campers
- 13:56Speaker 12: love drama.
- 13:57Speaker 7: Don't say that I've had enough drama day.
- 14:00Speaker 12: Come, Cyrus.
- 14:05Speaker 4: I'm clean and am I'm glad to see you.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I'm glad to see you too, Hugo, and I'm glad
- 14:11Speaker 5: to see you're so excited about this year's drama protection.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I'm excited about anything that doesn't involve pottery, teacups, tea cups.
- 14:20Speaker 8: It's a long story, mister Garcia. Spend some time in
- 14:23Speaker 8: crafts and you'll understand.
- 14:26Speaker 5: I'll take your word for it, Cyrus.
- 14:28Speaker 8: Okay, settle down, guys and sit in front of the stage.
- 14:31Speaker 8: We have to make room for the other cabins too.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Wow' mister Garcia, how do you get all those big
- 14:36Speaker 4: heavy rocks into the stage.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Easy logan. They're not heavy, they're props and they're hollow inside.
- 14:43Speaker 13: Whoa, they look so real, mister Garcia, what story are
- 14:48Speaker 13: we doing?
- 14:49Speaker 11: I loved the story of Gideon last year.
- 14:51Speaker 5: You were a Midianite soldier, weren't you, Lily?
- 14:54Speaker 11: Can I be a soldier again? Please? Soldiers get to
- 14:57Speaker 11: wear armor and march around.
- 14:59Speaker 5: And I'm afraid there are no soldiers in this year story.
- 15:03Speaker 5: But there is a camel.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Hugo, You're not supposed to be backstage.
- 15:08Speaker 4: A councilor cyrus.
- 15:09Speaker 2: There's a camel.
- 15:11Speaker 10: Look a cat.
- 15:13Speaker 7: Wow, there is a camera, mister Garcia. Where'd you get it?
- 15:19Speaker 11: It's so big? Does it have a name?
- 15:23Speaker 5: All right, everyone sit back down, and please don't touch
- 15:27Speaker 5: the camel. It'll be very expensive if anything happens to it.
- 15:31Speaker 5: But where did you get it? Valley Community College down
- 15:35Speaker 5: in the city. And if you think the camel is impressive,
- 15:38Speaker 5: wait till you see the other costumes I got.
- 15:41Speaker 11: You mean the camel is a costume, yes, Jenet.
- 15:44Speaker 5: It operates like a big puppet. Someone sits cross legged
- 15:47Speaker 5: inside and operates levers and strings to make it moved.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Not everything works, but it's ears and tails still twitch.
- 15:57Speaker 7: That is so cool.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Hey, I think we could do a podcast about.
- 16:01Speaker 11: The camel Harold, It's mountain mysteries. Remember where's the mystery?
- 16:07Speaker 11: And a camel puppet?
- 16:08Speaker 9: Mister Garcia, are we doing the story of baby Jesus?
- 16:12Speaker 11: Why would we be doing a Christmas story? Luke, it's summer.
- 16:16Speaker 9: The wise men had camels.
- 16:18Speaker 11: That's not the only Bible story with camels.
- 16:21Speaker 9: Then what story are we doing?
- 16:23Speaker 5: The story of Eliezer? Eliezer he was Abraham's servant.
- 16:32Speaker 4: A servant who wants a story about a servant?
- 16:37Speaker 10: Yeah, that doesn't sound very interesting.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Oh but it is. This story has everything adventure and
- 16:45Speaker 5: suspense and even romance.
- 16:49Speaker 11: Yuh, romance? Luck? First, Miss Hattie's having a tea party,
- 16:54Speaker 11: and now the play has romance.
- 16:58Speaker 12: Oh no, Cyrus, I thought Lily and the others would
- 17:01Speaker 12: love drama. Then mister Garcia had to ruin it by
- 17:04Speaker 12: mentioning romance.
- 17:06Speaker 8: Kids that age don't really understand it, do they, Addison,
- 17:10Speaker 8: I don't think kids our age haven't figured out either. Well,
- 17:14Speaker 8: let's hope mister Garcia figures out how to deal with
- 17:16Speaker 8: these reluctant actors.
- 17:20Speaker 6: How will mister Garcia convince the campers that the account
- 17:24Speaker 6: of Abraham's servant, Eliezar is a fascinating story. Perhaps we'll
- 17:29Speaker 6: find out. After this break, let's head back into the
- 17:34Speaker 6: drama tant and see how things are progressing.
- 17:38Speaker 11: I thought the drama production would be fun.
- 17:41Speaker 10: The kid's right, we're doing a story about a servant.
- 17:44Speaker 11: I'm not a kid, mister Garcia.
- 17:47Speaker 9: Last summer the play was about.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Gideon, a hero.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Aliezar was a hero. Think of it this way. In
- 17:55Speaker 5: a typical hero story, the hero has a quest, a
- 17:58Speaker 5: mission to carry out, right.
- 18:01Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, what's a quest?
- 18:04Speaker 5: Well, Natalia, it's a search for something precious or an
- 18:08Speaker 5: important or dangerous assignment you've been given.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Like a king sending his nights out on an expedition.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Exactly. Eliezar had a quest. Abraham sent him on a
- 18:19Speaker 5: very important mission.
- 18:20Speaker 10: What kind of quest?
- 18:22Speaker 5: Abraham sent him to find a wife for his son, Isaac.
- 18:25Speaker 11: You're gonna talk about romance again, aren't you.
- 18:29Speaker 5: I'm afraid so, Lily, But it won't be as bad
- 18:32Speaker 5: as you think. Romance doesn't necessarily mean mushy and sentimental.
- 18:36Speaker 11: It doesn't.
- 18:37Speaker 3: No.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Romance means a story that depicts adventure and heroic deeds.
- 18:42Speaker 12: Mister Garcia is right. I learned that working at the library.
- 18:46Speaker 5: But servants aren't heroic. Let me explain the story to
- 18:50Speaker 5: you guys.
- 18:51Speaker 11: Promise you won't get too mushy.
- 18:53Speaker 7: I promise.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Now listen everyone. Eliezar wasn't just a servant. He was
- 18:58Speaker 5: Abraham's STUDI He was in charge of everything he owned,
- 19:02Speaker 5: and Abraham was a very rich man.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So Aliezer was like Abraham's manager.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Right logan an extremely important position. In fact, Abraham trusted
- 19:15Speaker 5: Aliaezar so much that at one point he made Aliazar
- 19:18Speaker 5: his heir.
- 19:19Speaker 10: What's an air?
- 19:21Speaker 5: An air is the person who would inherit all of
- 19:23Speaker 5: Abraham's property, herds, and belongings. But when Abraham and Sarah
- 19:28Speaker 5: finally had their miracle son, then Isaac became his father's heir.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Wait, so Abraham asked Eliezer to find a wife for Isaac.
- 19:36Speaker 2: But Isaac was the guy who had replaced him.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Oh that's one way of looking at it.
- 19:42Speaker 11: Why would Eliezer agree to do that? Wasn't he jealous
- 19:45Speaker 11: of Isaac?
- 19:46Speaker 7: I would have been jealous.
- 19:47Speaker 8: Eliezer would have been like a gazillionare if Isaac had
- 19:51Speaker 8: it come.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Along, Eliezar left God, and he knew Isaac was the
- 19:54Speaker 5: child God had promised to Abraham, so he agreed to
- 19:57Speaker 5: travel through rough, dangerous country to find the perfect wife Isaac.
- 20:02Speaker 5: And he did it riding a camel, which isn't exactly comfortable.
- 20:06Speaker 12: That sounds pretty heroic, doesn't it.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Now let's talk about who's going to play which parts. Logan,
- 20:12Speaker 5: I'd like you to play a liaiser.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Sure thing, mister Garcia.
- 20:16Speaker 5: And Harold, how'd you like to be Isaac Jenet? You'd
- 20:20Speaker 5: make a great Rebecca.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Mister Garcia, Why is that rock moving across the stage?
- 20:27Speaker 5: Moving across?
- 20:29Speaker 12: Uh?
- 20:30Speaker 8: Oh, where's Hugo?
- 20:34Speaker 11: I'd check under that rock if I were you, Hugo.
- 20:39Speaker 6: It looks like Hugo and Jackson aren't taking mister Garcia's
- 20:43Speaker 6: drama class very seriously. But at least mister Garcia seems
- 20:47Speaker 6: to have made progress getting the campers to see how
- 20:50Speaker 6: amazing the story of Eliezar really is. Hattie's pottery craft
- 20:56Speaker 6: didn't go as planned. She's feeling well, you'll see, Pattie,
- 21:04Speaker 6: I brought you some raspberry bars.
- 21:06Speaker 16: How is the lemonade challenge going so far?
- 21:09Speaker 2: Michelle? It was awful?
- 21:12Speaker 17: You mean the campers didn't like the idea of making
- 21:15Speaker 17: their own lemonade mug.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Not just some of the campers, all of the boys
- 21:19Speaker 2: and a few of the girls too.
- 21:22Speaker 11: I don't understand.
- 21:23Speaker 16: I thought it was a brilliant idea.
- 21:26Speaker 2: They didn't understand at all. I wanted them to learn
- 21:29Speaker 2: to serve others, to make people feel welcome and care for,
- 21:34Speaker 2: to learn how to use the lemonade challenge, to get
- 21:36Speaker 2: to know people better, and to introduce them to Jesus.
- 21:40Speaker 16: They didn't understand any of it.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Well, that's why I wanted James here. I thought maybe
- 21:45Speaker 2: he would have a more exciting way of describing at all.
- 21:47Speaker 11: But James didn't want to He had.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Other responsibilities as a sports director.
- 21:53Speaker 16: I get it.
- 21:54Speaker 11: What's funny.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Too bad James couldn't have shown up to do the
- 21:57Speaker 2: ropes course demonstration. That might have gotten attention.
- 22:01Speaker 11: Speaking of James, what about him? He's here, Hattie, I
- 22:06Speaker 11: had better be going now.
- 22:08Speaker 16: Enjoy the raspberry bars.
- 22:09Speaker 2: They're fresh out of the oven.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Thanks Michelle, Hattie.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Oh, you've been crying. What's wrong?
- 22:23Speaker 16: Everything?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Everything's wrong?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Want to talk about it?
- 22:27Speaker 2: I wanted was for you to be here this morning.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I was just busy campers.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Might have been more excited about the lemonade challenge if
- 22:37Speaker 2: you'd explained it.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I'm not so sure.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Well, I am, you're the cool guy. You do rock
- 22:44Speaker 2: climbing and building ropes courses, and I just teach them
- 22:47Speaker 2: how to use clay.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But but that doesn't mean they'll listen to me.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Serving others is. It's tough. Samurai warriors served.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Others samurais now that's in.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yes, the Samurai were more than warriors. Their job was
- 23:04Speaker 2: to serve their leader and protect and serve the people
- 23:06Speaker 2: around them.
- 23:07Speaker 7: That's epic.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I read that the name Samurai means.
- 23:11Speaker 1: To serve, just like Christians are called to be servants.
- 23:14Speaker 2: That's why I wanted you here this morning. You could
- 23:17Speaker 2: have explained all that.
- 23:19Speaker 1: But you just explained it, and it's interesting.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Now what did you want to talk to
- 23:26Speaker 2: me about?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Well, you know, you know how much I appreciated having
- 23:31Speaker 1: Bible states together even though I was away at school.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Right, it wasn't quite the same as being in person,
- 23:36Speaker 2: but at least modern technology gave us that option.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know we kind of talked about getting
- 23:43Speaker 1: to know each other better.
- 23:45Speaker 2: James, are you freaking up with me because you can't.
- 23:49Speaker 2: We're not even dating.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Well, no, no, no, I don't want to date you.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Well that was harsh.
- 23:54Speaker 1: No, I ugh, that didn't sound right. I don't want
- 23:58Speaker 1: to date you.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's received loud and clear.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I want to court you. You want to what I
- 24:08Speaker 1: want to court you? Look, hattie, I've done a lot
- 24:12Speaker 1: of things wrong in my life, but I want to
- 24:15Speaker 1: do this right.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And that's why you don't want to date me.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yes, because I want something more than that. I know
- 24:24Speaker 1: courting sounds old.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Fashioned, Yeah it does.
- 24:28Speaker 1: But dating today just sounds like it's all about fun.
- 24:31Speaker 1: That's not what I'm talking about.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Okay, that makes sense.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I think I want something more intentional.
- 24:40Speaker 2: More intentional.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Well, this past year, the more time I spent with God,
- 24:45Speaker 1: the more I've realized that God does want us to
- 24:47Speaker 1: be careless with our relationship.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So you want us to court?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Yes, to prayerfully and purposely explore whether marriage is in
- 24:56Speaker 1: God's plans for us? So what do you think?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Well, James, Hole, I think you have yourself a deal.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I was very nervous. I mean you were sad and
- 25:12Speaker 1: crying and oh no, you're.
- 25:15Speaker 16: Crying again this time they're happy tears.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Hattie certainly sounded happy, didn't she direct her Doug?
- 25:24Speaker 5: She sure did.
- 25:25Speaker 18: James obviously gave this a lot of thought, and I
- 25:28Speaker 18: agree with him. We shouldn't be careless with someone else's heart.
- 25:31Speaker 3: No.
- 25:32Speaker 6: Seeking God's will for us is especially important when it
- 25:35Speaker 6: comes to something huge like choosing our spouse. And Hattie
- 25:39Speaker 6: and James are in their late twenties.
- 25:42Speaker 18: They're at the right age to figure this all out.
- 25:44Speaker 18: It'll be interesting to see how their time at camp
- 25:46Speaker 18: together goes.
- 25:48Speaker 10: Do you think wedding mails are in their future?
- 25:51Speaker 6: I don't know, But what I do know is that
- 25:53Speaker 6: they're making the right decision to let God lead them.
- 25:56Speaker 7: Well, that's always a good decision.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Hope Patty's idea to have the kids learn about service
- 26:03Speaker 6: through the lemonade challenge turns out to be a good decision.
- 26:07Speaker 18: It didn't start off well though, but the idea is good.
- 26:11Speaker 18: Remember that verse Addison talked about.
- 26:13Speaker 6: Oh right, Romans twelve thirteen.
- 26:16Speaker 18: That's the one supply the needs of God's people extend
- 26:19Speaker 18: hospitality to strangers.
- 26:21Speaker 6: Some versions, I think even say practice hospitality.
- 26:24Speaker 18: God wants us to lead lives focused on loving and
- 26:27Speaker 18: serving others.
- 26:28Speaker 6: The drama production is based on a Bible story about
- 26:31Speaker 6: a man who did just that. Eliezar served Abraham faithfully,
- 26:36Speaker 6: didn't he.
- 26:37Speaker 18: Yes, he did, even when it wasn't easy.
- 26:40Speaker 6: So listeners, exercise your faith by asking God to show
- 26:44Speaker 6: you ways that you can serve others this.
- 26:47Speaker 18: Week, and we'll see you here next time.
