- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome into another episode of the check O Deli.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com,
- 0:16Speaker 1: here with you, and we're gonna continue on today with
- 0:19Speaker 1: our all NFC East Draft. Taking a look at the
- 0:22Speaker 1: defensive side, however, and I went with three defensive tackles,
- 0:27Speaker 1: two edge rushers, two off ball linebackers, two cornerbacks, a nickelback,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and two safeties. And again, I didn't put any rookies
- 0:36Speaker 1: on this list because I think that's a little unfair
- 0:39Speaker 1: in terms of projection. I went with what I'm expecting
- 0:42Speaker 1: these players to do in twenty twenty six, not necessarily
- 0:45Speaker 1: what they've done in the past. And we'll start with
- 0:48Speaker 1: defensive tackle. And this name isn't going to surprise anyone.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Jalen Carter the Eagles two time Pro Bowler, and he
- 0:56Speaker 1: was also an All Pro. Sure, he's coming off a
- 0:58Speaker 1: down season, but there's context needed. He had the shoulders
- 1:02Speaker 1: injuries that clearly plagued him and limited his impact. But
- 1:06Speaker 1: let's not lose sight of the body of work that
- 1:08Speaker 1: Jayalen Carter has done and how that maybe projects to
- 1:12Speaker 1: what he's going to do now that he's healthy, and
- 1:14Speaker 1: there's no reason to expect that he isn't. But this
- 1:17Speaker 1: is someone that has youth on his side. He has
- 1:21Speaker 1: tremendous athleticism, He's physical, He's a dominant force in the
- 1:24Speaker 1: teeth of the Eagles defense. He can get after the quarterback,
- 1:28Speaker 1: he can defend the run, and he does command double teams.
- 1:31Speaker 1: He needs to be accounted for on every single snap,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and there's a lot that he's.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Playing for this year.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm expecting a motivated Jayalen Carter that's going to go
- 1:40Speaker 1: out there and remind everyone that he should be heralded
- 1:43Speaker 1: among the elite at his position for those who maybe
- 1:46Speaker 1: forgot about the player that he was when he's operating
- 1:50Speaker 1: at peak levels. And Jalen Carter for me, was a
- 1:53Speaker 1: really easy pick to kick things off here. The second
- 1:55Speaker 1: defensive tackle I went with is a Dallas Cowboy, and
- 1:59Speaker 1: that is Quinn Willlilliams, who is a four time Pro
- 2:01Speaker 1: Bowler twenty.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Eight years old.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The Cowboys acquired him last season. This is someone that
- 2:07Speaker 1: I've watched quite a bit during his time with the Jets.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Watched him flourish throughout his career, really well rounded player. Yes,
- 2:15Speaker 1: his production tailed off a little bit, but I am
- 2:18Speaker 1: expecting a sort of a resurgence with Christian Parker, a
- 2:21Speaker 1: defensive coordinator that he just tends to get the most
- 2:25Speaker 1: out of the players that he has and really take
- 2:28Speaker 1: them to another level. And I think at twenty eight
- 2:30Speaker 1: years old, there's still another level that Quinn Williams can reach.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And he's surrounded by a little bit more talent than
- 2:36Speaker 1: he was last season during his time with the Cowboys,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and I think that he is a player that year
- 2:42Speaker 1: after year he's been pretty consistent and I think he's
- 2:47Speaker 1: going to be a force to be reckoned with in
- 2:50Speaker 1: the middle of that Dallas defensive line.
- 2:53Speaker 2: The third defensive tackle.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I could have went with Jordan Davis, who really burst
- 2:58Speaker 1: onto the scene last year and has grown immensely as
- 3:01Speaker 1: a leader, but that's not factoring into this equation.
- 3:04Speaker 2: But I went with Moro Jomo And some context here.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Morojomo played seven hundred and forty snaps last season. That
- 3:12Speaker 1: was sixty six percent the fifth month, most on the
- 3:15Speaker 1: Eagles defense, and he had six sacks and.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Twelve quarterback hits.
- 3:19Speaker 1: This is the player who's made notable strides each season,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and he's taken on a pretty sizable workload with the
- 3:28Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, and there's no reason to suggest that that's
- 3:31Speaker 1: going to change in twenty twenty six. The opportunities are
- 3:34Speaker 1: going to be there. He really impresses me as a
- 3:37Speaker 1: pass rusher. And let's not forget he's entering the final
- 3:40Speaker 1: year of his rookie deal, so he's playing for a.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Lot as well. And I just think that his.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Skill set, with his ability to use leverage to his
- 3:49Speaker 1: advantage his long arms, he plays with really good physicality,
- 3:53Speaker 1: knows how to strike offensive lineman and displace them and
- 3:56Speaker 1: get after the quarterback.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I think there's a.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Big season in the works here with Moro Jomo another one.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I think there's another level that he can reach, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think that he will. Clint Hurt is going to
- 4:08Speaker 1: make sure that that happens, and we haven't yet seen
- 4:11Speaker 1: the best of Moro Jomo in a big season for him.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So for me, I considered other players. There's Doron Payin
- 4:18Speaker 1: of the Washington Commanders. There're certainly Jordan Davis that I
- 4:22Speaker 1: thought about, but I ultimately went with Moro Jomo because
- 4:26Speaker 1: I've mentioned it on this podcast before, so it would
- 4:29Speaker 1: be a little hypocritical of me not to put him
- 4:31Speaker 1: on this list because I picked him as one of
- 4:32Speaker 1: my breakout stars for the Eagles defense this year.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So there you have it.
- 4:36Speaker 1: There's your three defensive tackles at edge rusher, a lot
- 4:42Speaker 1: of talent to choose from here. There's Abdul Carter, who
- 4:46Speaker 1: I think is an ascending player who's going to really
- 4:49Speaker 1: experience a breakthrough in twenty twenty six.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And jay loox Hunt is.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Another player who I've talked about as a breakout star
- 4:58Speaker 1: for the Eagles defense in his third season. But the
- 5:02Speaker 1: first player I went with was Brian Burns. And this
- 5:05Speaker 1: is a veteran pass rusher. He's a three time Pro Bowler.
- 5:08Speaker 2: He was an All Pro. He had last season.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Get this, he had sixteen and a half sacks, twenty
- 5:13Speaker 1: two tackles for loss, thirty one quarterback hits, and seven
- 5:17Speaker 1: passes defended. Now the other side of things, he's only
- 5:22Speaker 1: had double digit.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Sacks twice in his career.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But I'm looking at it through the lens of the
- 5:28Speaker 1: talent that he has around him. Abdul Carter, Cavon Thibodeau,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and Brian Burns is a highly productive pass rusher and
- 5:35Speaker 1: it seems like he's hitting his stride there with the Giants.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think the surrounding talent is going to create opportunities
- 5:43Speaker 1: for him where you can't just necessarily key on him.
- 5:45Speaker 2: They have some nice pieces on defense.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I didn't have them well represented on the offensive side
- 5:50Speaker 1: when we did the podcast, and there's reasons for that,
- 5:53Speaker 1: but they do have pieces there on defense that I
- 5:55Speaker 1: think are pretty intriguing. But Brian Burns is not only
- 5:58Speaker 1: one of the best pass rushers in the NFC East,
- 6:02Speaker 1: he's one of the best pass rushers in the NFL
- 6:04Speaker 1: and a consistent player with the Panthers, and it's sort
- 6:08Speaker 1: of carrying over now to the Giants. I don't think
- 6:11Speaker 1: that was a blip on the radar or anything to
- 6:14Speaker 1: that effect. I'm expecting Brian Burns to continue to make
- 6:18Speaker 1: some noise there in East Rutherford.
- 6:21Speaker 2: The other edge rusher I.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Went with is Johnathan Gernard, the Eagles pass rusher who
- 6:25Speaker 1: they acquired.
- 6:25Speaker 2: On Draft weekend.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Now, John think Gernard is coming off a down season,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but two years before that he had twelve sacks. Then
- 6:34Speaker 1: he had twelve and a half sacks. Last year in
- 6:36Speaker 1: twelve games, he had just three sacks. But if you
- 6:38Speaker 1: go back and watch Jonathan Gernard. He was the same guy.
- 6:42Speaker 1: His pressure rates were high. It just comes down to
- 6:45Speaker 1: being able to finish and bring the quarterback down when
- 6:47Speaker 1: you have those opportunities. But he did have the shoulder injury,
- 6:50Speaker 1: which is worth monitoring. He didn't take part in any
- 6:53Speaker 1: team droves for the Eagles in the spring. That was
- 6:55Speaker 1: all part of the plan. Both Grenard and the Eagles
- 6:58Speaker 1: were in lockstep on that. But I think that he's
- 7:01Speaker 1: a player that when you look at what he's done
- 7:04Speaker 1: in his career. I think he has thirty eight career sacks.
- 7:07Speaker 1: He's a better peer pass rusher than Jalen Phillips. I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think in this defense, it's really going to cater to
- 7:12Speaker 1: his skill set. He's athletic, he's twitchy, he can drop
- 7:16Speaker 1: in the coverage, and it seems like in this Vicvanjo defense,
- 7:21Speaker 1: where there's a lot of star power, it leaves a
- 7:24Speaker 1: lot of opportunities for players to feast. I thought that
- 7:26Speaker 1: that was the best move of the offseason for the Eagles,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and so I'm leaning into it a little bit more
- 7:30Speaker 1: by giving Jonathan Grenard the nod as my second edge
- 7:33Speaker 1: rusher on this list off ball linebacker. The first one
- 7:41Speaker 1: is pretty logical. That's Zach Bonn and Zach Bond burst
- 7:45Speaker 1: onto the scene in twenty twenty four. There wasn't much
- 7:47Speaker 1: known about him. He was largely a special teams contributor
- 7:51Speaker 1: for the Saints. Gets the Philadelphia Vicvanjo has other plans.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Turns him into a highly productive off ball linebacker who
- 7:58Speaker 1: can cover, who can blitz, who can defend the run,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and he's grown into a leadership role on defense. He's
- 8:05Speaker 1: become known as one of the better off ball linebackers
- 8:08Speaker 1: in football. And I don't think there's going to be
- 8:11Speaker 1: any trailing of his play. I don't think there's going
- 8:15Speaker 1: to be any drop off with Zach Bond.
- 8:17Speaker 2: He continues to.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Operate at a pretty high level here. He's entering his
- 8:22Speaker 1: third season in this defense. Oh and by the way,
- 8:25Speaker 1: he can take the football away as well, which also
- 8:28Speaker 1: factored into my decision. I just think the splash plays
- 8:31Speaker 1: are going to be there. There's a level of consistency
- 8:33Speaker 1: in this defense that I think is going to bring
- 8:36Speaker 1: out another great version of Zach Bond in twenty twenty six.
- 8:39Speaker 2: There's no reason to suggest that it won't, And.
- 8:45Speaker 1: It wasn't a very difficult decision for me not only
- 8:47Speaker 1: is he I talked about this with Brian Burns. Not
- 8:49Speaker 1: only is Zach Bond one of the better off ball linebackers,
- 8:53Speaker 1: the best off ball linebacker in my estimation in the
- 8:56Speaker 1: NFC East, but he's also among the best at his
- 8:59Speaker 1: position in the NFL.
- 9:01Speaker 2: The other linebacker that I went with, and this one
- 9:04Speaker 2: it could have went.
- 9:05Speaker 1: You know, I can understand if there's a little pushback
- 9:07Speaker 1: on this, but I want went to Marvin Overshown from
- 9:10Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys. Injuries have really plagued him, but when
- 9:13Speaker 1: he's been on the field, he's been a.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Site to behold.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And for context, in nineteen games he started seventeen. This
- 9:23Speaker 1: is someone who was a third round pick in twenty
- 9:26Speaker 1: twenty three. Injuries have deprived him of the opportunity to
- 9:29Speaker 1: get there on the field, and he had the ACL
- 9:32Speaker 1: injury in twenty twenty three in the preseason.
- 9:34Speaker 2: In twenty twenty.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Four, late in the year, he had the ACL MCL PCL,
- 9:39Speaker 1: which sort of the recovery led into the twenty twenty
- 9:42Speaker 1: five season. But when you watch him out there, he's rangy,
- 9:46Speaker 1: he's twitched up, he's athletic, he knows how to pressure
- 9:50Speaker 1: the quarterback. He has five career sacks, an interception, and
- 9:53Speaker 1: nine tackles for loss in seventeen starts, and you project
- 9:57Speaker 1: that over a full complement of games if he's able
- 10:01Speaker 1: to stay healthy. And that's a big if, I understand,
- 10:03Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, you have a player who's
- 10:05Speaker 1: primed for pro bow accolades. There's a lot of projecting
- 10:09Speaker 1: here when it comes to Overshown, But this is a
- 10:11Speaker 1: player who, when he's been on the field, there's evidence
- 10:14Speaker 1: to support my bollishness in having him on this list,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and again in this Christian Parker defense, I think you're
- 10:21Speaker 1: going to see his skill set and talent accentuated. It
- 10:26Speaker 1: just comes down to being available. But for me, when
- 10:29Speaker 1: you look at it from a talent perspective, there's few
- 10:32Speaker 1: players more talented than Demarvian Overshown. And I'm a big
- 10:38Speaker 1: fan of watching quality football and good football players. So
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'm hoping that he stays healthy in twenty twenty six
- 10:45Speaker 1: because he's battled through a lot and you just want
- 10:49Speaker 1: to see what he can.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Do with a full regular season.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Defensive backs, this was a little bit of a difficult
- 11:00Speaker 1: decision in some cases, not however, at cornerback, because at cornerback.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I went with Quinnyon Mitchell first and foremost. Quenyon Mitchell.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He doesn't say a lot, he doesn't make headlines. He
- 11:14Speaker 1: just goes out there and plays football. But he's an
- 11:17Speaker 1: elite player at his position. He erases one side of
- 11:20Speaker 1: the field. He was an All Pro last season. Yes,
- 11:23Speaker 1: the interceptions aren't there, but I'm expecting another Pro Bowl
- 11:26Speaker 1: campaign for Quinjon Mitchell. Quarterbacks simply don't test his side.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But he's also a willing participant in the run game
- 11:33Speaker 1: and a highly instinctual and intelligent football player that continues.
- 11:38Speaker 2: To grow every year.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It's been really really fun watching his development, and he
- 11:44Speaker 1: gets some continuity there with Joe Casper now helming the
- 11:48Speaker 1: passing game.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Christian Parker of course went.
- 11:51Speaker 1: To Dallas as I alluded to, and Quinjon Mitchell is
- 11:55Speaker 1: just going to continue to grow. And I have to think,
- 11:57Speaker 1: knowing the competitor that Quiyon is, there's going to be
- 12:01Speaker 1: a sour taste in his mouth based off of how
- 12:03Speaker 1: that postseason game went against the San Francisco forty nine ers,
- 12:07Speaker 1: where he uncharacteristically surrendered some big plays and I believe
- 12:11Speaker 1: it was even his first touchdown of the year that
- 12:13Speaker 1: he gave up there too, but that's certainly not going
- 12:17Speaker 1: to deter Quenyaw Mitchell. There's a certain level that I'm
- 12:24Speaker 1: expecting him to really tap into this year, if you
- 12:28Speaker 1: can believe that, because his first two years, I mean
- 12:31Speaker 1: have really been impeccable.
- 12:32Speaker 2: But I think there's another level.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That he's going to reach this season and could even
- 12:38Speaker 1: challenge for the best cornerback in football. I'm not into
- 12:41Speaker 1: rankings or anything like that, but for me, I mean,
- 12:43Speaker 1: there's pats Ertan, There's Quinnon Mitchell. There's maybe one or
- 12:47Speaker 1: two other players, but I think after this season there's
- 12:51Speaker 1: going to be more conversations for Quinna Mitchell as being
- 12:55Speaker 1: the NFL's elite cornerback.
- 12:59Speaker 2: The other outside, I went with rak Wohen.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I thought about going with Trey Amos from the Washington
- 13:04Speaker 1: Commanders because I know his pro football focused numbers weren't great,
- 13:09Speaker 1: but he got his hands on the football quite a bit.
- 13:11Speaker 1: He broke up a lot of passes. I thought his
- 13:13Speaker 1: coverage was pretty tight. I liked him coming out of college.
- 13:16Speaker 1: He has good size, and I think last year was
- 13:19Speaker 1: sort of the typical growing pains that one can expect
- 13:22Speaker 1: from a young cornerback, but I didn't see enough there
- 13:26Speaker 1: to give me a ton of confidence to put him
- 13:28Speaker 1: on this list. Whereas Rieke Wohen, he's done it before.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He was a pro bowler in twenty twenty two. He
- 13:35Speaker 1: has tremendous athleticism and speed and length at six foot
- 13:41Speaker 1: four in this defense, which tends to bring the best
- 13:45Speaker 1: out of cornerbacks. I think you're going to see Rieke
- 13:50Speaker 1: Wohen really revert back to the player that he was
- 13:53Speaker 1: as a rookie, or at least closer.
- 13:55Speaker 2: To that version.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And this is someone that lost his starting spot essentially
- 14:00Speaker 1: to Josh Job in Seattle. They got into a time
- 14:03Speaker 1: share a little bit with Job sort of taking the
- 14:05Speaker 1: lead there, and he did sign a one year deal
- 14:09Speaker 1: with Philadelphia, So that's going to inevitably bring on some
- 14:15Speaker 1: more motivation for Rik Wollen. And when you're playing with
- 14:19Speaker 1: elite players like Quinyon Mitchell and another player who I'm
- 14:22Speaker 1: going to mention in a moment, it's hard to.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Not have that.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Sort of light a fire in you and motivate you
- 14:34Speaker 1: to take your game to another level. And if what
- 14:36Speaker 1: we saw during spring practices was any indication, this is
- 14:40Speaker 1: someone who is primed for some big plays.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Quarterbacks are going to.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Avoid throwing the Quinjon Mitchell, so Riek wollen should see
- 14:49Speaker 1: a ton of targets. And again I go back to
- 14:52Speaker 1: we've seen Riek Wollan be a top flight corner before.
- 14:55Speaker 2: There's been inconsistencies.
- 14:57Speaker 1: There's been emotional, you know, emotional outbursts on the field
- 15:02Speaker 1: that I think he would like to have back that
- 15:04Speaker 1: nearly cost the Seattle Seahawks in a key spot in
- 15:08Speaker 1: the postseason.
- 15:09Speaker 2: But all those things are learning experiences.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think that this fresh start in Philadelphia is going
- 15:16Speaker 1: to bring out the best in Rique one and that
- 15:20Speaker 1: the Eagles have the one two punch here represented at
- 15:24Speaker 1: corner and then nickelback.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I alluded to this.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm sure you're not surprised, but that's Cooper Degene. Cooper Degene,
- 15:32Speaker 1: like Quinya Mitchell, is one of the best football players
- 15:34Speaker 1: on the Philadelphia Eagles, who are one of the best
- 15:36Speaker 1: football teams in the NFL. And with Cooper Degen, he
- 15:40Speaker 1: can play nickelback, he can play outside corner, though I
- 15:44Speaker 1: don't expect that all that much this season, and he's
- 15:47Speaker 1: going to undertake safety in year three and when that's
- 15:52Speaker 1: when the Eagles are in base. But Cooper Degene not
- 15:55Speaker 1: only is he rangy and athletic enough to match up
- 15:58Speaker 1: with a variety of different receivers.
- 16:01Speaker 2: He will play the run.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He's highly intelligent and a trusted player on that defense.
- 16:08Speaker 1: He seems to be someone who has really endeared himself
- 16:13Speaker 1: to Fic Vangio. They put a lot of responsibility on Cooper.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I like to see him take the football away.
- 16:18Speaker 2: A little bit more during the.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Regular season because he does have the ball skills. He's
- 16:23Speaker 1: around the football quite a bit and maybe get after
- 16:26Speaker 1: the quarterback a little bit more as a blitzer. But
- 16:28Speaker 1: I think he's going to have those opportunities. And when
- 16:32Speaker 1: you look at not just the nickel corners in the
- 16:35Speaker 1: NFL or in the nfcas, but really in the NFL,
- 16:39Speaker 1: Cooper dejen I would make the argument is the best
- 16:43Speaker 1: nickel cornerback in the NFL. So much like QUINNYA. Mitchell,
- 16:47Speaker 1: there's another level that I think that he can reach.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Year three. I expect to be a.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Very fruitful one for both of the Eagles twenty twenty
- 16:57Speaker 1: four draft picks. And he plays what I believe is
- 17:01Speaker 1: the most challenging position to play on the defensive side.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Game day is stressful enough.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Parking, traffic, long lines, We've all been there, But when
- 17:12Speaker 3: it comes to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy.
- 17:17Speaker 3: This is the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside
- 17:21Speaker 3: of Philly, with plenty of free parking. You'll be in
- 17:23Speaker 3: and out fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't
- 17:27Speaker 3: just care about convenience. Camden Apothecary is all about the
- 17:30Speaker 3: guest experience. Their staff makes sure you feel taken care
- 17:35Speaker 3: of every time you walk in. Plus, they carry only
- 17:38Speaker 3: the best quality cannabis at the fairest prices, so whether
- 17:42Speaker 3: you're stocking up for the tailgate, the watch party, or

- 17:52Speaker 3: with specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare pros.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Cam Den Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 18:02Speaker 3: experience made for Philly fans.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Twenty one and up.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Safety was a little bit challenging for me because there's
- 18:09Speaker 1: not an abundance of players that are going to register,
- 18:14Speaker 1: with most listening and there's not a lot there's no
- 18:19Speaker 1: all pros or Pro Bowlers. But this is me looking
- 18:24Speaker 1: at it in terms of projection, and both players were
- 18:27Speaker 1: signed as free agents this offseason, and I really liked
- 18:31Speaker 1: both signings when they happen. The first player is Nick Cross,
- 18:34Speaker 1: who signs with the Washington Commanders after being drafted in
- 18:37Speaker 1: the third round a few years ago by the Colts.
- 18:40Speaker 2: He signed a two year, fourteen million dollar.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Deal and he joins a Commander's defense that is now
- 18:47Speaker 1: going to be helmed by Deronte Jones, who was a
- 18:50Speaker 1: coach that I've been following closely because there's been a
- 18:54Speaker 1: lot of buzz about him over the years. He was
- 18:56Speaker 1: a defensive backs coach with the Minnesota Vikings, and because
- 19:00Speaker 1: he's coming in with that background, I'm expecting him to
- 19:03Speaker 1: sort of stabilize the secondary in particular and perhaps get
- 19:07Speaker 1: the best out of Nick Cross. And Nick Cross is
- 19:10Speaker 1: a terrific athlete. He doesn't come off the field. He's
- 19:13Speaker 1: played over eleven hundred snaps the past two seasons. He
- 19:16Speaker 1: started thirty four regular season games the past two seasons.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He can get out for the quarterback, he can make
- 19:22Speaker 1: plays on the football, and again he's paired with Deronte Jones,
- 19:27Speaker 1: the new defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, so I
- 19:31Speaker 1: really like that addition for them, and I think that
- 19:34Speaker 1: while he hasn't garnered any accolades, I always viewed him
- 19:38Speaker 1: as one of the more underrated safeties in football. He's
- 19:41Speaker 1: still just twenty four years old and an immense.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Talent with a lot of upside.
- 19:48Speaker 1: The final player on this list is Jalen Thompson from Dallas.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I talked about Nick Cross being an underrated player, while
- 19:57Speaker 1: I view Jalen Thompson much in the same way. There's
- 20:00Speaker 1: a reason why he's on Christian Parker's defense. Christian Parker
- 20:05Speaker 1: knows how to identify certain qualities and defensive backs that
- 20:10Speaker 1: he believes will fit his defense, and if he's targeting
- 20:13Speaker 1: someone like a Jayalen Thompson, that tells you all you
- 20:15Speaker 1: need to know.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Jalen Thompson spent his.
- 20:19Speaker 1: The large part of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.
- 20:22Speaker 1: He signed a three year, thirty six million dollar contract
- 20:25Speaker 1: with the Cowboys. This is someone who's played over nine
- 20:28Speaker 1: hundred snaps since twenty twenty one, nine hundred snaps every
- 20:32Speaker 1: season since twenty twenty one. He started fifteen games in
- 20:35Speaker 1: each of the past two seasons. He can play the
- 20:38Speaker 1: run effectively, he's good in space, and he's someone that
- 20:42Speaker 1: I think is a really good communicator on the back end,
- 20:45Speaker 1: which coincides with some of the some of the qualities
- 20:50Speaker 1: that Christian Parker values. So I went with two new
- 20:54Speaker 1: additions to the NFC East, Washington Commander's safety Nick Cross
- 20:58Speaker 1: and Dallas Cowboys safety j Thompson. I think the Eagles
- 21:03Speaker 1: are pretty well represented here and that really shouldn't be
- 21:06Speaker 1: a surprise because they should be viewed among the NFL's
- 21:10Speaker 1: elite units in football, and I believe that they're going
- 21:13Speaker 1: to go out there and prove it once again in
- 21:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. But as you can see, there's some
- 21:21Speaker 1: talented players elsewhere around the NFC East that when the
- 21:25Speaker 1: Eagles do play these.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Teams, they're going to have to take into account. That
- 21:29Speaker 2: was a fun exercise. I hope you enjoyed it.
- 21:31Speaker 1: If you have different picks or anything to that effect,
- 21:35Speaker 1: let me know. But I really enjoy doing this and
- 21:39Speaker 1: I think that it really illustrates the talent in an
- 21:43Speaker 1: NFC East that is shaping up to be a little
- 21:47Speaker 1: bit more competitive in the ensuing years. But with that
- 21:51Speaker 1: that's going to do it for this episode of The
- 21:53Speaker 1: Checho Daily Andrew Ducheco and I'll catch you all on
- 21:56Speaker 1: the next one.
