- 0:08Speaker 2: We have got my.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Guy representing the Los Angeles, California TF they got a
- 0:13Speaker 1: new album and movie. Don't call Me Lucky artificially right now,
- 0:17Speaker 1: fellas welcome, Yes, sir, I told you guys off off
- 0:22Speaker 1: the camera. I gotta give you flowers on the came.
- 0:23Speaker 1: This is to me the top three albums of the year.
- 0:25Speaker 1: This album is fucking It's so good and I was like,
- 0:29Speaker 1: it's crazy because it's an easy listen, but I was
- 0:31Speaker 1: like disappointed when it was over. I was like, damn,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I wish this shit had like three or four more records.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It's good, man, It's a dope, dope album.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Dude. Thanks.
- 0:38Speaker 2: How long were you guys working on this musically?
- 0:42Speaker 3: You know, we started making music about two years ago,
- 0:45Speaker 3: just songs.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Yo.
- 0:46Speaker 3: We'd be working out. Steve comes over and works out
- 0:48Speaker 3: with me. Yeah, knocked out a song, knock out a song.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I got a song, and then I was like, all right,
- 0:53Speaker 3: man's let's start wrapping this up. So I gave him
- 0:55Speaker 3: a couple of new beats. He knocked those out and
- 0:57Speaker 3: I was like, Yo, this is sound different. I go
- 1:01Speaker 3: the album starts today, let's start, Let's rerecord the whole
- 1:04Speaker 3: whole album, so I think, And then within six weeks
- 1:06Speaker 3: we knocked it out. We kept three of the original
- 1:08Speaker 3: songs and everything else was brand new.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Did the title start with that sample?
- 1:14Speaker 4: No?
- 1:14Speaker 3: The The original tide of the album and movie was
- 1:17Speaker 3: Another Day in Paradise, okay. But he had a line
- 1:20Speaker 3: that said, don't call me Lucky, and he said it again,
- 1:21Speaker 3: and I'm thinking of it, and I was talking to
- 1:23Speaker 3: him and I was like, Yo, that line is so strong, bro,
- 1:25Speaker 3: because you know, like this is blood, sweat and tears,
- 1:28Speaker 3: years of work, man, stand up to six in the
- 1:30Speaker 3: morning to achieve our goals and our dreams and our ambition.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So I was like, hey, you down to flip this
- 1:35Speaker 3: title to don't call Me Lucky? And he's like, yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 3: let's run it. And then I added those samples in
- 1:39Speaker 3: at the end.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Where do you where do you?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:41Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to obviously the sample snitches
- 1:43Speaker 1: and not out, but like, was it hard to find that?
- 1:45Speaker 2: I dug?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Baby, I dug because you gotta dig to find.
- 1:48Speaker 1: If you if the name came first and then you
- 1:50Speaker 1: gotta find, it'd be different. If the sample came and
- 1:52Speaker 1: you're like, Yo, the sample kind of sounds kind of fly,
- 1:54Speaker 1: we should roll with this.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I dug man, it's you know, I'm blessed to have
- 1:57Speaker 3: some friends that are diggers and have creates that are
- 2:02Speaker 3: super fucking deep. So I made a few phone calls,
- 2:04Speaker 3: you know, and they got back with me.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So you're kind of like, hey, guys, this is the
- 2:07Speaker 1: name of the album, can you help me find something?
- 2:11Speaker 3: It was good?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Man, You guys have had such a strong working relationship.
- 2:15Speaker 1: TF Can you just kind of speak to like how
- 2:18Speaker 1: awesome it is to be able to just have such
- 2:20Speaker 1: a catalog with one of the greatest hip hop producers
- 2:23Speaker 1: of all time and speak to your guys' friendship and
- 2:26Speaker 1: chemistry with Mugs.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yeah, so outside of the music, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 5: like Mug said, like, we would just build just hanging out.
- 2:34Speaker 5: You feel me, it wasn't even really recording.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It'll be days.
- 2:37Speaker 5: I'll just pull up and we'll just you know, we're
- 2:39Speaker 5: just kicking it, chopping it up, you know. He uh.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Mugs is.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Like, sometimes I probably wouldn't even say nothing, but I'd
- 2:49Speaker 5: just be listening, you know, like just the convos and
- 2:52Speaker 5: just to be a fly on the wall to hear
- 2:54Speaker 5: you know, different conversations, and you know, motherfucker's really chopping
- 2:57Speaker 5: game on, you know, building like outside of the music world,
- 3:04Speaker 5: you feel me So just to be able to sit there,
- 3:07Speaker 5: you know and chop game and get game and you know,
- 3:09Speaker 5: it's never no gate keeping type shit around, none of
- 3:11Speaker 5: the none of the homies around. And uh so it
- 3:15Speaker 5: made it easy recording. You know, it's like, hey, we're
- 3:18Speaker 5: just having beats on in the back, like, hey, load
- 3:21Speaker 5: that up or send me that, you know. So it
- 3:23Speaker 5: was kind of dope. It obviously like throughout the years
- 3:28Speaker 5: it wasn't that. So it was a point where I
- 3:32Speaker 5: record something and I wouldn't here till like maybe like
- 3:35Speaker 5: three four months later, like damn, I forgot about that.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It just comes out.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Yeah no, no, just so not really comes out, but
- 3:42Speaker 5: you know, like he's send it to me and I'd
- 3:43Speaker 5: be like, oh shit, I forgot about this one.
- 3:46Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:46Speaker 5: But it we got to the point to where I
- 3:50Speaker 5: stopped coming out here, you know, cause I got a
- 3:52Speaker 5: studio where I'm at now. He was like, well, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 5: send some shit to you now. So but yeah, like
- 3:57Speaker 5: we had a long like a good a good run
- 4:00Speaker 5: to where you know, it kept me on my toes,
- 4:02Speaker 5: really feel me because me not being able to hear
- 4:05Speaker 5: these records and then I'm still getting beats and I'm
- 4:08Speaker 5: pulling up and he got a new beat playing, so
- 4:10Speaker 5: like we got so many different sounds going on. We
- 4:14Speaker 5: had so many different sounds going on building the album out.
- 4:18Speaker 5: So but yeah, when we finally got to that that
- 4:20Speaker 5: last that last leg really tuned and out in and uh,
- 4:26Speaker 5: by then I was that was probably like a few
- 4:28Speaker 5: months a few months ago, maybe like the end of
- 4:31Speaker 5: last year.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Really mugs uh, how cause this is some of the
- 4:35Speaker 1: best production I feel like of the year on this project,
- 4:38Speaker 1: just front to back, Like you are in your fucking bag,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Like are you making beats daily weekly? How much of
- 4:46Speaker 1: this was stuff that you were cooking up because you
- 4:48Speaker 1: got inspired by the project? How much of it was
- 4:50Speaker 1: stuff where you were like playing just beats and tfs
- 4:53Speaker 1: like that one, or you were like, yo, this feels
- 4:55Speaker 1: like they'll fit, Like what's it?
- 4:57Speaker 3: I think? I think when we started working it was
- 4:59Speaker 3: just beats I was playing and he picked things out,
- 5:01Speaker 3: like you sure you want that? I would have never
- 5:03Speaker 3: gave you that, you know what I'm saying, but when
- 5:05Speaker 3: we got when we died in at the end, I
- 5:07Speaker 3: was making beats specifically for the record to make sure
- 5:09Speaker 3: it's can cohesive. I was like, what do we need now?
- 5:12Speaker 3: I need some uptempo shit. I need. I need a
- 5:14Speaker 3: soul record. I need I need something that something that's
- 5:18Speaker 3: kind of fun, you know what I mean, like like
- 5:19Speaker 3: El Sancho, you know what I mean. And then like
- 5:21Speaker 3: the Ghost record was recorded, and I liked the original.
- 5:24Speaker 3: But a lot of times when I'm finished with an
- 5:27Speaker 3: album and I got time, I'll start remixing songs just
- 5:29Speaker 3: to see what I can come up with. So I'm
- 5:31Speaker 3: working on the Ghost record and I'm like, yo, this shit,
- 5:34Speaker 3: ghost Ghost sounds good on break beats. Let me throw
- 5:36Speaker 3: a break beat on here. And then the TF didn't
- 5:39Speaker 3: sound good on that break beat. Then I threw another one.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I was like, TF sound good on this one, but
- 5:42Speaker 3: Ghost doone. So I was like, you know, I'm a
- 5:44Speaker 3: little twenty break beats up and just put them in.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And then it just I put on every four bars
- 5:49Speaker 3: and I'm just you know, it's like jacking for beats
- 5:51Speaker 3: inspired you know, break beat DJ shit. And I was like,
- 5:55Speaker 3: this is entertaining this is something dope for the album,
- 5:57Speaker 3: dope for the DJs, you know what I mean. So
- 5:59Speaker 3: we rode with that.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah, No, and it's definitely like, uh something like that is.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It's just like some it's some hip hop head shit.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It's like, imagine like in twenty twenty six, we're getting
- 6:09Speaker 1: you and Ghosts over fucking.
- 6:12Speaker 2: All those different breaks. It's awesome. I wanted to ask you.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I saw the Soul Assassin's two album finally ended up
- 6:18Speaker 1: on DSPs, which is awesome because that album is I
- 6:22Speaker 1: don't even know how many years old.
- 6:23Speaker 2: That album two thousand and two, man, Yeah, so it's
- 6:25Speaker 2: finally up.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Was that a hard process to get some like get
- 6:30Speaker 1: that out because for people who don't know, it wasn't
- 6:33Speaker 1: on DSPs for so long and this year it finally
- 6:35Speaker 1: got uploaded on everything. Was what was the process of
- 6:37Speaker 1: getting that back up?
- 6:39Speaker 3: You know, it wasn't on DSP So I called Chris
- 6:41Speaker 3: Schwartz and he's like, dude, I'll give you the record,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I'll give you the masters back. I have them. Wow.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I was like, you seriously, goes yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So, because where did it originally come out.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Through Chris Schwartz? I think it was through warners. They
- 6:52Speaker 3: had a rough Nation. After rough House he started record yep,
- 6:56Speaker 3: so he gave me the masters back and he goes here, man,
- 7:00Speaker 3: that's awesome, so cool as fuck, and so we loaded
- 7:02Speaker 3: it up. We're gonna drop an anniversary Rhinol later on
- 7:05Speaker 3: this year that be to play. So I mean, I
- 7:07Speaker 3: have a couple bonus tracks that didn't go on the
- 7:09Speaker 3: record I'm gonna put on the album. So yeah. Shout
- 7:12Speaker 3: out to Chris Schwartz for always being a good motherfucker man.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yo TFU.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Muggs has always been known as the kind of the
- 7:20Speaker 1: bridge I feel like between the West Coast and East
- 7:23Speaker 1: Coast if you will, like you always would hear like
- 7:26Speaker 1: people say like Cypress Hill back of the Day didn't
- 7:28Speaker 1: sound like an LA group or the beats didn't set,
- 7:31Speaker 1: because Mugs is kind of the you know, the backbone
- 7:33Speaker 1: to that sound. This album is such a perfect representation
- 7:38Speaker 1: of that with the features. You got Room Streets on
- 7:39Speaker 1: the album, you got rock Marcy on the album. We
- 7:42Speaker 1: talked about ghost Face, but I feel like you too
- 7:44Speaker 1: as an artist, Like I first heard about you through
- 7:46Speaker 1: Conway and I know you've been working with school Boy
- 7:49Speaker 1: Q and shit, but you have always had like such
- 7:51Speaker 1: a great relationship with the underground East Coast guys. What
- 7:56Speaker 1: kind of started that, would you say? And like, because
- 7:58Speaker 1: you've been embraced by that community.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Oh well, shit, I was from running around with Q
- 8:03Speaker 5: that blank Face tour. Yeah, when we did blank Face
- 8:07Speaker 5: that blank Face run, we had like a week in
- 8:11Speaker 5: New York and uh, and you know, motherfucker's on tour.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Motherfuckers ain't really trying to you know, move around like that,
- 8:19Speaker 5: or if they did, you know, we probably go grab
- 8:21Speaker 5: something to eat or something like that. But I was like, man,
- 8:23Speaker 5: this was my first time in New York. I'm like,
- 8:25Speaker 5: I'm trying to go.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Hit the streets.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Who do I need to Who do I need to
- 8:28Speaker 5: know to, you know, run around and see what I see.
- 8:31Speaker 5: I'm not trying to see Times Square, I'm not trying
- 8:33Speaker 5: to go to nothing high end. I'm trying to go
- 8:36Speaker 5: tap in with you know so and doing that, I
- 8:40Speaker 5: built a lot of relationships in that, like within that
- 8:44Speaker 5: week twenty sixteen. I'm still like now at this point, now,
- 8:49Speaker 5: those same people I met that week are like super
- 8:53Speaker 5: good friends now. So just being on just being able
- 8:56Speaker 5: to run around like that and tap in and meet
- 8:59Speaker 5: people you know outside of the so the the the
- 9:03Speaker 5: rappers like them, like you know, the wrong streets, rock
- 9:06Speaker 5: Marshy like these are also like my close friends.
- 9:08Speaker 2: You feel me so for sure.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Uh but yeah, I mean uh even with my music
- 9:15Speaker 5: after the Tookie Nose like I dropped no hooks, feel
- 9:20Speaker 5: me so, like my whole thing has always been like
- 9:24Speaker 5: that lane, like you get down, Yeah I could, Yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 5: I'm smoking anything.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Feel me so. Uh.
- 9:30Speaker 5: You know once people seen that and they seem like, oh,
- 9:33Speaker 5: you really be on.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Like I'm I was in New.
- 9:35Speaker 5: York at like maybe five six times a year, just
- 9:38Speaker 5: running around like sometimes recording, sometimes chilling, sometimes working. Uh
- 9:44Speaker 5: but whatever the case, I'm I'm in New York, you know,
- 9:48Speaker 5: so uh you know, like it's it's dope to go
- 9:51Speaker 5: touch the people that touch the city.
- 9:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Even just this last time, we was all working out,
- 9:56Speaker 5: working out outside at the park.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yo.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Man, you know this thing you could only do so much. Man,
- 10:02Speaker 3: there's nothing like FaceTime. And like walking down the street,
- 10:05Speaker 3: we run into the same people two times a day
- 10:07Speaker 3: sometimes and they're like yo, yo, you gotta come do this,
- 10:09Speaker 3: you gotta come do this. We went to do two
- 10:11Speaker 3: radio shows. We end up doing nine of them, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 3: just running in them motherfuckers. And you know New York
- 10:15Speaker 3: im mad love and for sure and the kind of
- 10:17Speaker 3: music he does. Man. In fact, he can pull up
- 10:19Speaker 3: in New York. It's always been a thing. Yo. New
- 10:21Speaker 3: York was the media capital of the world at one time.
- 10:23Speaker 3: It's like you got to go to New York. You
- 10:24Speaker 3: could pop off in New York, you could pop off anywhere,
- 10:27Speaker 3: you know what I mean. So putting that time in
- 10:29Speaker 3: the streets face to face it's important.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Hey, man, don't forget odd Socks basics. The only thing

- 11:53Speaker 2: Uh mugs.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you, man, because Soul Assassin's has
- 11:56Speaker 1: been such a it's been such a launching pad for
- 11:59Speaker 1: so many people, and it's been so important.
- 12:04Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I grew up around Rocker's brother from Dilated, so that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: that was my best man at my wedding, so I
- 12:10Speaker 1: kind of was hip to this underground scene in La
- 12:14Speaker 1: for a lot sooner than a lot of people. I
- 12:17Speaker 1: was like eleven or twelve years older, fat beats, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: for when Expansion Team came out. But when I think
- 12:24Speaker 1: of soul Assassins, I just think of a certain aspect
- 12:28Speaker 1: of Los Angeles hip hop that's so important. And you know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: for you how crazy is it to know that, like
- 12:35Speaker 1: or just to see where al has kind of gone
- 12:39Speaker 1: to the levels he's gone to. I mean, he got
- 12:42Speaker 1: nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys. And
- 12:45Speaker 1: you know, when I think Alchemists, I think it's old assassins,
- 12:47Speaker 1: But I mean he's also a contemporary contemporary of yours,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you're you know, mentalor of his How crazy has it
- 12:52Speaker 1: been to just watch the Alchemist thing?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Bro? It's amazing. I love it. I just smile every
- 12:57Speaker 3: time I see him winning, you know what I mean.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I get excited. I tech some shit be like yeah baby,
- 13:01Speaker 3: you know, congratulations, congratulations. He's like, man, I'm here just
- 13:04Speaker 3: waving the flag, you know what I mean, Thank you,
- 13:06Speaker 3: big bro. So you know, he goes back and forth. Man,
- 13:09Speaker 3: he still takes care of me. I take care of him,
- 13:10Speaker 3: you know, And that goes for the whole soul Assassin
- 13:12Speaker 3: Family for mister cartoon from a step On. You know
- 13:15Speaker 3: what I mean, It's it's it's we were just a
- 13:18Speaker 3: an artist collective, you know what I mean. And it's
- 13:20Speaker 3: all just about helping each other with our dreams, goals
- 13:23Speaker 3: and ambitions, man, and just opening any door, any door,
- 13:26Speaker 3: any new relationship we got, we share it. Man.
- 13:29Speaker 1: What is it because you do albums with you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Rome Streets or Mayhem or Jay Worthy? Obviously TF What
- 13:36Speaker 1: is it about somebody that like you're looking for where
- 13:39Speaker 1: you're like, yo, I want to do a project with
- 13:41Speaker 1: this person. Is it the chemistry when you guys work together?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Is it? Like?
- 13:44Speaker 1: What is it that kind of because you've got I
- 13:47Speaker 1: feel like you've been on such an underrated independent run
- 13:49Speaker 1: with a lot of these albums.
- 13:50Speaker 2: You've been releasing.
- 13:51Speaker 1: What is it that you look for in an artist
- 13:54Speaker 1: or you know, somebody when it comes to saying like,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know what, let's let's do Let's do tenn these
- 13:58Speaker 1: or fifteen of these?
- 13:59Speaker 3: You know, first's I gotta I gotta like what they're doing.
- 14:03Speaker 3: So after that, you know, then I'll be like, I
- 14:04Speaker 3: don't send nothing in the mail. You got to pull
- 14:06Speaker 3: up and then it's kind of like you know then
- 14:09Speaker 3: kind of like running water through the pipes. I got
- 14:11Speaker 3: to test drive the situation so and see what kind
- 14:13Speaker 3: of human this is. I was like, let's do a song. Well,
- 14:16Speaker 3: see how they move, so they get down, see what
- 14:18Speaker 3: they say. Let's do another song. Okay, boom, now we
- 14:21Speaker 3: can move forward. Let's knock out an album, you know
- 14:23Speaker 3: what I mean. So it's always that that testing ground
- 14:26Speaker 3: and shit, you know, because you're gonna spend a month
- 14:29Speaker 3: and a half in a dark ass studio with a human,
- 14:31Speaker 3: you know what I mean. You got to make sure
- 14:32Speaker 3: they cool because I ain't doing this for the money,
- 14:34Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I'm doing it straight for
- 14:35Speaker 3: the love and then just a commaderaderie and and and
- 14:38Speaker 3: the the the creative back and forth with somebody, which
- 14:42Speaker 3: is a good time, you know what I mean. So
- 14:44Speaker 3: that's pretty much what I look for.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Tf Uh. You've been on this crazy independent run yourself.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm curious, like, have you ever considered signing anywhere? Because
- 14:56Speaker 2: I feel like at certain.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Point in time, I'm sure you've had people knocking on
- 14:59Speaker 1: your door man, or do you do you? I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 1: because the indie game is is cold right now, Like
- 15:02Speaker 1: in a good way. Like I feel like, if you
- 15:04Speaker 1: have a pocket, you can you can really turn it
- 15:07Speaker 1: into a very very Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Oh well I got a I got a sick situation
- 15:12Speaker 5: right now with Rocknation Distribution, okay, you know, but other
- 15:16Speaker 5: than that, like, nah, not really, because I've seen people
- 15:20Speaker 5: in the in the uh independent game running it up crazy.
- 15:25Speaker 5: At this point, it's really just relationships, really, you feel
- 15:28Speaker 5: me like, and if you could, if you got the
- 15:33Speaker 5: call log to really push those buttons on your own,
- 15:35Speaker 5: and I feel like you'll be straight. Yeah, I feel
- 15:38Speaker 5: me especially if you know how to move and you've
- 15:40Speaker 5: been moving good, you've been moving around good, and you
- 15:43Speaker 5: know how to network and you know how.
- 15:44Speaker 3: To let that network build a.
- 15:47Speaker 5: World for you, then I feel like you'll be straight.
- 15:50Speaker 1: What I always wonder because you did an album with Crisis,
- 15:52Speaker 1: who's also incredible. Shout out to Carolina's out there the
- 15:56Speaker 1: Green Bottle. How did you guys connect?
- 15:59Speaker 3: We connect?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Did uh through dough?
- 16:02Speaker 5: Shut him up with dough uh Dough Networks. He was
- 16:05Speaker 5: living in North Carolina at the time, and yeah, he
- 16:08Speaker 5: was like, Yo, you.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Should get with this, dude.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Crisis christis Crisis.
- 16:11Speaker 2: You know, little brother family.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Yeah, so I ended up going out there. Uh and
- 16:18Speaker 5: uh we did a few records. We did a few
- 16:21Speaker 5: records and stuff like that, and I heard his production.
- 16:23Speaker 5: I was like, damn, because at the time I really
- 16:24Speaker 5: wasn't him to you know, what he was doing or
- 16:27Speaker 5: even who he was. He got a lot of accolades
- 16:30Speaker 5: for sure, you know. So Uh, I was like, damn,
- 16:32Speaker 5: I'm kind of sleep on you know. So I went
- 16:35Speaker 5: before I even really jumped into that project, I went
- 16:37Speaker 5: and did some homework on him, checked him out, listen
- 16:40Speaker 5: to I was like, all right, for sure, let's do it.
- 16:43Speaker 5: So uh, same thing like he was playing me stuff
- 16:48Speaker 5: and I'm like, I need that one.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 5: So but that's how we that's how we connected through
- 16:53Speaker 5: dough and Uh. I recorded most of that most of
- 16:57Speaker 5: that album in North Carolina.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Oh really, So you went out there and tapped in.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I like, like, you know, like like mus was saying,
- 17:03Speaker 5: I like to build.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I like to build with people. I like to build
- 17:06Speaker 3: with people.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Like even if if like if I'm gonna do a
- 17:10Speaker 5: feature with you, I'm not gonna send you the song
- 17:12Speaker 5: I'd rather especially if we like if I know you
- 17:16Speaker 5: and you like on the other side of the world,
- 17:17Speaker 5: then all right cool, you feel me. But like if
- 17:20Speaker 5: we out here, you in LA or somewhere close to LA,
- 17:24Speaker 5: and you can't get to the studio or we can't
- 17:28Speaker 5: get to you know, make it happen, and not times
- 17:30Speaker 5: out of ten it probably won't happen because I don't
- 17:32Speaker 5: really like doing.
- 17:32Speaker 2: The email A lot of times. You like to just
- 17:34Speaker 2: lock in face.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I want to.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I want to be able to be like because that's
- 17:37Speaker 5: where the chemistry come in at you know, you could
- 17:39Speaker 5: you could hear a song and it's like you could
- 17:41Speaker 5: tell like that just got put together. It wasn't like
- 17:44Speaker 5: a vibe in the studio type.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Shit when's working on a Muggs album. Because I'll be
- 17:49Speaker 1: shopping at nine pm at Ralphson Burbank and I'll run
- 17:51Speaker 1: into like May Handler ran like buying produce and.
- 17:54Speaker 2: What are you doing here? I know what you're doing.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Gave me Muggs are working. I was like, oh yeah, yo, Mugs.
- 18:02Speaker 2: One of.
- 18:04Speaker 1: To me, your your best projects that you've been a
- 18:07Speaker 1: part of was that you and Jiz did Grand Masters,
- 18:10Speaker 1: which is such a slept on project.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Man, so good.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I actually think right after Liquid Swords, that's Jes's best
- 18:16Speaker 1: solo body of work. What was like the genesis of
- 18:20Speaker 1: you guys deciding to do Grand Masters, because that is woo,
- 18:24Speaker 1: that thing is special.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Man. Well we you know, we linked up on the
- 18:27Speaker 3: first Sol Assassin record and did Third World, and then
- 18:32Speaker 3: second Sol Assassin record we did when the Fat Lady Sings,
- 18:36Speaker 3: and it was just talk me and would talk all
- 18:37Speaker 3: the time about doing the project together. And me and
- 18:40Speaker 3: Chase started a label, Chase Infinite. Shout out to Chase Infinite,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and you know, and we put Mitchie Slick out the
- 18:47Speaker 3: wrong time. We put Mitchie Slick, We put Self Scientific out,
- 18:50Speaker 3: we put Planet Asia out, and then we was like,
- 18:51Speaker 3: let me reach out to Jizz and do this project.
- 18:54Speaker 3: And Jizzy came through. Man. We played Chess every day
- 18:57Speaker 3: Strength Gennises and knocked the record out of the month.
- 19:00Speaker 3: But you know, by the way, that's.
- 19:02Speaker 2: The most on brand sentence ever came through. We drank
- 19:05Speaker 2: Guennis's and played.
- 19:07Speaker 3: And let me tell you that record would have went gold.
- 19:08Speaker 3: It was a weird time because that was the time
- 19:10Speaker 3: when Napster was out and then the music records just
- 19:15Speaker 3: stopped selling. Everything went digital, you know, and everybody started
- 19:19Speaker 3: doing branding and major labels and there was no Apple Music.
- 19:22Speaker 3: There was no Spotify, there was no YouTube, there was
- 19:25Speaker 3: no way to really get it out there, you know
- 19:27Speaker 3: what I'm saying. So as great as that project was,
- 19:30Speaker 3: it was just an odd time for the music because
- 19:31Speaker 3: it was like five years was five? What were you
- 19:34Speaker 3: would that come up to five? So there was a
- 19:37Speaker 3: few years there were the music business was trying to
- 19:39Speaker 3: find its footing again, you know what I mean, trying
- 19:41Speaker 3: to find its ground, and you know, the records amazing
- 19:43Speaker 3: though we did. We did a great job on Jesus
- 19:46Speaker 3: fucking ridiculous. Bro. I could just I could just listen
- 19:49Speaker 3: to jizz all day. Man, It's one of my favorites. Ever.
- 19:52Speaker 3: First time I heard Wu Tang, I was I was
- 19:54Speaker 3: drawn to Risen Jesus.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, was.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Like because at that time, you guys are coming up
- 20:00Speaker 1: Wu Tang's coming up, Like, but you guys kind of
- 20:03Speaker 1: have like a very I would say, similar aesthetic to
- 20:10Speaker 1: your production, because I feel like when I think of
- 20:12Speaker 1: Mugs production, I just think of like like very very raw,
- 20:17Speaker 1: very grimy, like dusty shit as and like Rizza had
- 20:21Speaker 1: that same shit in his own way going at the
- 20:23Speaker 1: same time.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Did you get you and Rizza? Ever?
- 20:25Speaker 1: Just like connect early on in the nineties and just
- 20:28Speaker 1: geek out on like each other's shit at all.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Nah.
- 20:31Speaker 3: You know. I had known them from the Tommy Boy Records,
- 20:33Speaker 3: Prince Raqeem, you know what I mean. And but I
- 20:36Speaker 3: met Riza probably around right after Black Sunday I think
- 20:40Speaker 3: came out in ninety three, round the same time as
- 20:42Speaker 3: Black Sunday. Yeah, first Wu Tang and we linked up.
- 20:45Speaker 3: I went out to a studio and shot line a
- 20:47Speaker 3: couple of times and kicked it with him. And then
- 20:51Speaker 3: when I started working on the Temple of Boom album,
- 20:54Speaker 3: he had got the same manager as us, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 3: and I was like, Yo, I want to lock him
- 20:58Speaker 3: with riz And I never let nobody produce anything on
- 21:00Speaker 3: Cyprus Records at that point, but I was like, yo,
- 21:02Speaker 3: let's get them. And originally you guys on that record
- 21:06Speaker 3: originally was supposed to be Ray Kwan. Oh shit, we
- 21:08Speaker 3: ended up with you Got and you Got killed that verse. Boy,
- 21:10Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You God's Got. I mean, quiet as camp Man, Mystery
- 21:14Speaker 2: of Chess boxing versus fucking Man, one of the greatest.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That's fucking amazing, man. I'm a big you Guy fan.
- 21:20Speaker 3: So yeah, that's when we first locked in, you know,
- 21:22Speaker 3: and and you know, I've just been locked in with
- 21:26Speaker 3: with those gentlemen on that side ever since. You know
- 21:28Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 21:29Speaker 1: What about I guess the Soul Assassin's Infamous Mob synergy
- 21:33Speaker 1: for I mean, going on twenty years now, has been
- 21:36Speaker 1: a real thing, like can you kind of speak to
- 21:39Speaker 1: like Prodigy and like what it was like to be
- 21:41Speaker 1: around him and work so much with.
- 21:43Speaker 2: P back then?
- 21:43Speaker 3: Yeah? I met I met them through on Bigger Bee
- 21:46Speaker 3: rest in Peace, who was working Allowed right, Bigger Bee,
- 21:49Speaker 3: Bigger Bee, Yeah, he was doing he was doing the
- 21:52Speaker 3: unities out here and he was working Allowed Records with
- 21:54Speaker 3: Steve Rifkins.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Was Bigger Bee who signed the Dilated single.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Bigger b was a big dude. He used to work with.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It's not Records different, no guy, Okay, okay, Yeah, Bigger
- 22:04Speaker 3: Be was Chase Chase Infinites, Oh cousin God. Actually how
- 22:08Speaker 3: I met Chase? And you know, I went out to
- 22:10Speaker 3: New York to work on the Sol Assassin record and
- 22:12Speaker 3: I met Mob Deep I'm locked in with P and M.
- 22:15Speaker 3: And then Bigger was like, yo, you should work with
- 22:18Speaker 3: the little homies, the Infamous Mob, And I was like,
- 22:20Speaker 3: let's get in the lab and they had that's the
- 22:22Speaker 3: first record they did, first record they ever recorded.
- 22:24Speaker 2: On your albums on my album.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Wow Yeah Yeah. And you know, we locked in. We
- 22:29Speaker 3: got along, and I ended up putting Godfather on the
- 22:32Speaker 3: second Sol Assassin record. And I did a bunch of
- 22:34Speaker 3: demos for them, and and I was gonna get Infamous
- 22:39Speaker 3: Mob signed to Interscope with Tom Wally, and one of
- 22:42Speaker 3: them got locked up, and Tom Wally goes, listen, man,
- 22:44Speaker 3: this is the best demo I heard in the last
- 22:46Speaker 3: three or four years. But we're just dealing with this
- 22:49Speaker 3: Tupac ship. He's in jail. I can't have another group
- 22:51Speaker 3: with somebody in jail. I'm sorry, man. So then I
- 22:53Speaker 3: just said, fellas, you know, go do your thing. And
- 22:55Speaker 3: they end up getting signed up there wherever they got
- 22:57Speaker 3: signed and put their ship out that.
- 23:00Speaker 5: That's kind of crazy right here.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I'll play the demos. Wonder the demos are crazy. I
- 23:05Speaker 3: can imagine demos are crazy? Man? Yo?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Were you? I always wonder like.
- 23:12Speaker 1: There had to have been so many hypothetical albums that
- 23:16Speaker 1: you started with people that maybe never came out. You
- 23:20Speaker 1: talked about the demos, your hard drive of just like
- 23:23Speaker 1: what IF's gotta be crazy.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah. One record that's banging to this day is to
- 23:27Speaker 3: call the Wild Album. Group I had signed from Harlem
- 23:30Speaker 3: from the Polo Grounds, put out a couple of singles
- 23:33Speaker 3: with them. They're on the fourth Cypress album Baron Rix,
- 23:39Speaker 3: And we had them signed to Columbia, and Colombia wanted
- 23:42Speaker 3: a commercial single and it wasn't. They didn't want to
- 23:44Speaker 3: band to doing commercial singles. So they got released, and
- 23:48Speaker 3: you know, they had their internal problems. They broke up
- 23:50Speaker 3: and I went I just stayed getting busy, went my way.
- 23:52Speaker 3: They went their way. But the record's crazy. The album's crazy.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I can imagine, dude, TF if you could do and
- 24:00Speaker 1: you obviously you and two eleven got dope music together,
- 24:02Speaker 1: but if you could, let's say, wish list, homie list,
- 24:06Speaker 1: whatever it is, who would you do a joint album
- 24:08Speaker 1: with that you haven't done on with so far?
- 24:10Speaker 4: Oh damn, let me see that's tough.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Probably uh, probably Ice Cold Bishop.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I'd be crazy.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Probably Ice Cold Bishop, because we got, uh, we got
- 24:37Speaker 5: a lot of records together. So that's that's my reason
- 24:39Speaker 5: saying that, because you know, and I like, I like
- 24:42Speaker 5: how he puts together. He puts together good bodies of work. Uh,
- 24:47Speaker 5: and just based off the chemistry of when the records
- 24:49Speaker 5: we have done, I think that'll go crazy.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I feel like you and Crime Apple will go crazy.
- 24:55Speaker 3: We got to join.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Oh yeah, no, we got it.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Me and crime is I feel like that.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yeah, me and Crime we go crazy. That we got
- 25:02Speaker 5: We got a lot of shit in the cut too.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Little ten ten piece, Yeah, we got it.
- 25:06Speaker 3: We got a lot of half.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Mugs, half evidence. Evendence just dropped the Crime. I'd be crazy.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I was banging.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, ever been in his bag?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Okay, so you guys decided to do this album. And
- 25:15Speaker 1: most people will do an album, they'll do a music
- 25:18Speaker 1: video or three or something like that. You guys decided
- 25:20Speaker 1: to do a forty minute movie. What was the decision
- 25:25Speaker 1: where it was like, Okay, we got to get this
- 25:29Speaker 1: creative thought out in a different way.
- 25:32Speaker 2: And do a movie.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Well, you know, it was like, first of all, this
- 25:36Speaker 3: is a talented man and I respect him, and I
- 25:38Speaker 3: was like he's worth putting the time and energy into.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I want to see him blow the fuck up. So yeah, anyway,
- 25:43Speaker 3: I can do anything from my side, and I'm gonna
- 25:48Speaker 3: do it. So I was like, Yo, this record is
- 25:50Speaker 3: just bigger than a record. I want to give this
- 25:52Speaker 3: record some legs and be able to and you know,
- 25:54Speaker 3: be able to fucking spread on wings on this one
- 25:56Speaker 3: and take it around the world not only as a
- 25:59Speaker 3: as an album, but a movie because I've seen what
- 26:01Speaker 3: it did for the LST solo sets of record, and
- 26:03Speaker 3: so I told him the idea and he was like, bet,
- 26:05Speaker 3: let's go, you know what I mean. So we went
- 26:07Speaker 3: in knocked out a forty minute movie with Jason Goldwatch.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And you know, we've been touring the movie. Took it
- 26:16Speaker 3: to New York last week, had it at LA, We're
- 26:18Speaker 3: taking it to Japan next week, come back into Chicago,
- 26:22Speaker 3: San Francisco, San Diego. Then we're gonna release it May
- 26:25Speaker 3: twenty second on YouTube tube.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Yeh yeah, it's dope. It's dope. Were you how did
- 26:31Speaker 1: you feel good about acting? Nah?
- 26:34Speaker 5: So we're dealing with mugs. I'm like, whatever you want
- 26:38Speaker 5: to do, let's do it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: You feel me.
- 26:40Speaker 5: I just really took the back seat cause you know,
- 26:43Speaker 5: I've been running running around doing this shit alone. So
- 26:46Speaker 5: I'm used to putting everything together and lining everything up,
- 26:49Speaker 5: so you know, to just sit back and you know.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Just absorb everything.
- 26:54Speaker 5: And pay attention to you know, like even the strategies.
- 26:59Speaker 5: You feel me like, strategies is a little bit different
- 27:01Speaker 5: than time and this, you know, So it was dope
- 27:06Speaker 5: to just be like, I'm with whatever you want to do.
- 27:09Speaker 3: And you know, he not only making music, but just
- 27:12Speaker 3: as as a motherfucker about his business. He's on time,
- 27:14Speaker 3: he's on point, he's got great ideas. And I was like,
- 27:17Speaker 3: this is worth putting the time and energy because I
- 27:19Speaker 3: just respect the way he moves, you know what I mean.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Be there at professional, be there at twelve o'clock. He's
- 27:24Speaker 3: there at twelve forty five. And I'm the same way.
- 27:26Speaker 3: So in a lot of people move like that, you
- 27:28Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 3: it's my bro. Let's go. Let's put the full court
- 27:32Speaker 3: press on this one.
- 27:33Speaker 1: You guys have an insane amount of awesome. For people
- 27:37Speaker 1: who haven't seen the movie because it's not out yet,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you get were able to screen it.
- 27:40Speaker 2: But the amount of crazy guns in this movie, it
- 27:42Speaker 2: is some GTA shit. You say, explain to me how y'all.
- 27:44Speaker 2: First of all, some of these guns look like some
- 27:48Speaker 2: call of dud wild shit.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we got a home in Las Vegas, something called
- 27:53Speaker 3: Darker Lions who actually makes custom guns.
- 27:55Speaker 2: That's what I look like it.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he makes custom guns. That's his thing. Man. So
- 27:59Speaker 3: we tapped in with him him and he brought all
- 28:01Speaker 3: the customs out. You know what I'm saying. He brought
- 28:03Speaker 3: out the he brought out the Chucky gun Chucky AKA,
- 28:08Speaker 3: he put the big easy you know what I mean.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I got the sol Assassins. He's making me the sol
- 28:12Speaker 3: Assassins guns right now. Man, all custom ship man, you
- 28:16Speaker 3: know you can go fully auto in Nevada too, for sure.
- 28:18Speaker 2: In Nevada is it's the wild wild West.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Right right right. So we went out there and did
- 28:22Speaker 3: all that stuff. All that all that was filmed out
- 28:24Speaker 3: in the bat.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Do you guys crush a Cadillac in this movie?
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's something to put towards the production cost.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Was like, whose idea is it to like, yo, let's
- 28:33Speaker 2: go find a fucking Cadillac A just take it out.
- 28:35Speaker 3: It was all of us like we came to like,
- 28:37Speaker 3: what do we want to do? So we have bullet
- 28:39Speaker 3: points of all these ideas and then you know, TF
- 28:41Speaker 3: would hit us?
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:42Speaker 3: I found this, I found this. I'd be like I
- 28:44Speaker 3: found this goalwatch would be like I found this, and
- 28:46Speaker 3: then we started trying to see like what works with
- 28:49Speaker 3: the budget, what's doable, you know, and what's actually in
- 28:52Speaker 3: the vicinity where we don't got to travel. One of
- 28:54Speaker 3: the things we did with Death Valley was we went
- 28:57Speaker 3: to San Francisco, Oakland, Death Valley, the Palm Springs, Joshua Tree,
- 29:02Speaker 3: back to La back to San Diego. It was a
- 29:04Speaker 3: lot of moving around.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Was that where the desert stuff was shot?
- 29:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:07Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I w wasn't it was Nevada because I know,
- 29:09Speaker 1: like a lot of takes place in Vegas.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Right right right, So this one we was like, man,
- 29:13Speaker 3: that was a lot of moving around. Let's try to
- 29:15Speaker 3: do try to do this one in three spots, three
- 29:19Speaker 3: locations so we don't have to move around so much.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So within that concept, we was like, well, how about
- 29:23Speaker 3: if we repeat the scene three times in each location.
- 29:26Speaker 3: So that was that was the beginning of that. So
- 29:30Speaker 3: you know, and then you know, you start with a
- 29:34Speaker 3: game plan and then it starts taking on a life
- 29:36Speaker 3: of his own man and which you did a man.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Raffi Law Group Newest sponsored the bootle Like Cap podcast
- 29:41Speaker 1: Want to Give Some Love to that.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Man.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I just was in Arizona, just did a photo shoot.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Show some of those photos. While I'm talking, Man, you
- 29:48Speaker 1: already know I'm not only an endorser of Raffi.
- 29:52Speaker 2: I'm also a client. That's right.
- 29:54Speaker 1: My wife got into a fender bender and Raffi took
- 29:56Speaker 1: care of her exponentially.
- 29:58Speaker 2: It was so easy.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And when I tell you, man, if you get into
- 30:01Speaker 1: an accident, maybe a little injury situation, there's only one
- 30:04Speaker 1: guy I trust, one law group I trust. It's Raffi
- 30:08Speaker 1: Law Group called six three three eight eight forty three
- 30:12Speaker 1: thirty three. Whether it's a car accident, a personal injury situation,
- 30:15Speaker 1: whatever the case is, they alleviate all of the stress.
- 30:18Speaker 1: They've helped over seventy thousand people in AZ.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Now.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Look, I know you're driving around. You see the billboards everywhere.
- 30:24Speaker 1: You're like, ah, is this guy just like another one
- 30:26Speaker 1: of these billboard lawyers. No, the amount of care, the
- 30:29Speaker 1: amount of attention to detail that they do everything with,
- 30:32Speaker 1: it's the best. One more time, if you need help,
- 30:35Speaker 1: you gotta call Raffi, just like I did when my
- 30:37Speaker 1: wife got into an accident. Azy, you gotta trust Raffi, man,
- 30:41Speaker 1: all Right, They're the Best Raffi Law Group, the newest
- 30:44Speaker 1: sponsor of the Bootleg cav podcast One more time, don't
- 30:47Speaker 1: forget to save the number. Call Raffi if you get
- 30:50Speaker 1: into an accident six three three eight eight forty three
- 30:54Speaker 1: thirty three.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Let's get back to the podcast.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm curious because you obviously it costs money to make
- 30:58Speaker 1: a movie, and I feel like these days there are
- 31:02Speaker 1: so many unconventional ways artists don't think about monetizing their
- 31:06Speaker 1: art because I think some people will just like put
- 31:08Speaker 1: music out and their income stream is whatever Spotify or
- 31:12Speaker 1: Apple Music pays them. And you know, sometimes artists can
- 31:16Speaker 1: get jaded if, like, you know, they put some music
- 31:19Speaker 1: out and it doesn't do what they want. But there
- 31:21Speaker 1: are other ways to monetize the art if you will.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I feel like you guys have shown a good way
- 31:26Speaker 1: of doing that. Alchemist is you know, with the vinyl
- 31:29Speaker 1: and all this shit. But what is the grand plan
- 31:32Speaker 1: with the movie? You say it's going to be coming
- 31:33Speaker 1: out on TB. Is there going to be any physical
- 31:35Speaker 1: copies being sold, like some special edition.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Limited you know, yeah, I'm gonna do some VHS tapes.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Gotta be fired, you know, straight VHS tapes but this
- 31:43Speaker 3: project going in and I told you, if this ain't
- 31:45Speaker 3: a money making project, like what we're doing, is we
- 31:48Speaker 3: about to set the table for the next things we're doing?
- 31:50Speaker 2: You know, yeah, that would have felt.
- 31:52Speaker 3: This is bigger than nickels and dimes, you know what
- 31:53Speaker 3: I mean. We make money, and we know going into
- 31:56Speaker 3: this thing, that's like, let's set the table for the
- 31:58Speaker 3: next seven or eight projects we have coming next year.
- 32:00Speaker 3: And then plus you know when we team up, you know,
- 32:03Speaker 3: these records go away in a week sometimes, you know.
- 32:06Speaker 3: So I was like, now we're going to give this
- 32:07Speaker 3: record some legs. So usually the run is you know,
- 32:09Speaker 3: you do the album, you do the press, you do
- 32:10Speaker 3: the tour, right, you know what I mean. So we're
- 32:12Speaker 3: doing all that, But now we got a movie to
- 32:14Speaker 3: tour as besides us physically touring doing live shows, we
- 32:18Speaker 3: have a movie to tour as well.
- 32:19Speaker 1: With this for sure, So you know, that's a whole
- 32:21Speaker 1: different other way to touch people. Like you're doing theaters,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you're doing yeah Q And.
- 32:26Speaker 3: So you know, we probably in the fourth week of
- 32:28Speaker 3: promo in this and we got another six weeks to go.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Still, what is it about? Because Japan loves soul Assassins. Yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 1: and Cyprus and everything. I mean, what is it about that?
- 32:37Speaker 1: Just that country that is just because you know, for
- 32:40Speaker 1: people who don't know, there is like a sub genre
- 32:43Speaker 1: or a subculture in Japan of like Chicano life, like
- 32:46Speaker 1: Chicano culture out there, but Sol Assassins specific.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Cartoons out there right now doing a Solo Assassin cartoon
- 32:52Speaker 3: car show right now, low ride of car show. He's
- 32:55Speaker 3: out there. That's a week on the car show. So
- 32:57Speaker 3: we've been going out there since the early two thousands,
- 32:59Speaker 3: Like ourtoon would go out there for three months and
- 33:01Speaker 3: Tattoo and I would go out there with it for
- 33:03Speaker 3: a month and kick with him my DJ underground spots,
- 33:06Speaker 3: just playing soul music, funk music. So we you know,
- 33:10Speaker 3: we've been out we've been going out there for a while,
- 33:11Speaker 3: touching base with them, and they just they love our culture.
- 33:15Speaker 3: They love music, they love the fashion, they love the tattoos,
- 33:18Speaker 3: they love the photography, they love the cars, you know
- 33:21Speaker 3: what I mean. They love West Coast culture specifically, you
- 33:23Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So, you know, being the soul
- 33:25Speaker 3: Assassins tap into all those realms. Man, We've hit them
- 33:28Speaker 3: from so many different angles over the last twenty years,
- 33:31Speaker 3: you know what I mean. So I told Tia I
- 33:33Speaker 3: had a show out there. I had a show book,
- 33:34Speaker 3: so I was like, Yo, come to my show with me.
- 33:38Speaker 3: And with that, you know, I'm doing a drum machine.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I'm doing the Rolling four or four with Undefeated, the
- 33:44Speaker 3: one coming out. So we went and talked to Undefeated
- 33:46Speaker 3: and they was like, yo, fucks and y'all gonna be
- 33:48Speaker 3: out there. Let's do an in store, let's drop a shirt,
- 33:51Speaker 3: Let's do a party. So you know we're doing that too,
- 33:53Speaker 3: and we're gonna run around shoot some videos out there.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Tap in. I'm doing another collab with with only Hunter
- 34:00Speaker 3: for og brand out there, you know what I mean.
- 34:02Speaker 3: And TF made some bomb ass limited editions Japan only
- 34:06Speaker 3: merch bringing out this, so you know Mayhem's pulling up
- 34:10Speaker 3: with us. May So you know we about the concerts
- 34:13Speaker 3: about to be crazy out there, you know what I'm saying.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Just on some nerdy producer shit. You just mentioned your
- 34:18Speaker 1: collab that's coming out. But I'm curious because the hot
- 34:20Speaker 1: piece of equipment in the game right now is this
- 34:24Speaker 1: new MPC, the NPC one.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Have you been able to mess with it at all?
- 34:29Speaker 3: No? I would just I just looked at it on
- 34:31Speaker 3: the plane yesterday flying back to LA So I think
- 34:33Speaker 3: I'm gonna buy me one, and I would have it
- 34:35Speaker 3: in the collection even if I don't use it, you
- 34:37Speaker 3: know what I'm saying.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I was hanging with Tight out side and he
- 34:40Speaker 1: was just making beats and like we're at Paramount and
- 34:42Speaker 1: there's like a little quiet room in Paramount and he
- 34:44Speaker 1: just has everyone's on, just making beats and he's like,
- 34:45Speaker 1: you don't, like, all you need is this. It's kind
- 34:47Speaker 1: of crazy, it is, And it has the same like
- 34:50Speaker 1: aesthetic as like the OG two thousand.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Yeah, the two thousand.
- 34:53Speaker 3: I'm seeing on somebody was on it. You can get
- 34:55Speaker 3: SP twelve mode, you can get MP sixty mode in
- 34:57Speaker 3: P two thousand mode. Like it has all those different thing.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I wonder for you man as a producer, Like how
- 35:03Speaker 1: a magazine? I really miss a Scratch because we had
- 35:05Speaker 1: Scratch Magazine and it was like the one publication that
- 35:09Speaker 1: highlighted producers and like their equipment and shit, Like how
- 35:12Speaker 1: cool was it to have that around at that time?
- 35:14Speaker 3: Like, oh, Scratch and Mixed mag I used to dig
- 35:17Speaker 3: into them and that's how I found out about equipment.
- 35:19Speaker 3: You know, pre pre internet and all this stuff we
- 35:23Speaker 3: got now. But Yo, I would be in the magazine.
- 35:25Speaker 3: I'd be up at the magazine shop every month by magazine,
- 35:27Speaker 3: sitting in there for hours reading magazines, you know, come
- 35:30Speaker 3: home with a stack this big. So I kind of
- 35:32Speaker 3: do miss those magazines. Man.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Yo, I think last time you ran, I asked you
- 35:36Speaker 1: your personal top producers. Ever, I want to, like, let's
- 35:40Speaker 1: take it a level deeper in just the nerd talk.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Who do you think give me your top four sample
- 35:49Speaker 1: choppers in hip hop history?
- 35:53Speaker 3: Molly mal number one for me, Jay Dilla, Dela Dela
- 36:00Speaker 3: for sure, mad Lib Alet, Alchemist you know, and Saig
- 36:07Speaker 3: you know the Bomb Squad, Yeah, you know those of
- 36:11Speaker 3: mine Like where I come from is you know the
- 36:14Speaker 3: the b Bop RAMLZ single and the Wild Style record
- 36:17Speaker 3: was big inspiration for me, along with EPM D, Larry Smith,
- 36:21Speaker 3: Molly Mal, bdp E P M D, Ultra mag You
- 36:27Speaker 3: put all that together and you know, with some led
- 36:29Speaker 3: Zeppelin and some Albert King. You run that through my
- 36:32Speaker 3: filter and spit that back out. You got Cypress Hill
- 36:34Speaker 3: A lot of my sounds, you know.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Do you We talked a little bit about the movie
- 36:40Speaker 1: and how you guys did a really good job of
- 36:42Speaker 1: like kind of infusing AI into it without taking away
- 36:46Speaker 1: from the art.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Is it possible to do that in music?
- 36:50Speaker 3: You know, I've heard some people telling me that they've
- 36:53Speaker 3: been using AI LA to recreate samples or samples they
- 36:56Speaker 3: can't clear. They're putting the samples in there and just
- 36:58Speaker 3: flipping up a little bit so they can actually don't
- 37:00Speaker 3: have to give the master away spend twenty grand on
- 37:02Speaker 3: the sample. So I've heard, I've heard they've been doing it.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I've yet to tap into it myself, but I think,
- 37:08Speaker 3: you know, you can't fight technology. It's always going to
- 37:12Speaker 3: be here. It ain't going nowhere. So if you need
- 37:14Speaker 3: to use it as a tool in your toolbox, use
- 37:16Speaker 3: it because you know, I guess for musicians playing music,
- 37:20Speaker 3: when sampling came out, it was probably the same thing
- 37:23Speaker 3: for them. What the fuck is that shit? You know
- 37:25Speaker 3: that ain't musician shit. So you know, looking at AI
- 37:28Speaker 3: in the same way as this is just another tool
- 37:30Speaker 3: for what we do and get around the sample clearance
- 37:32Speaker 3: situation is something that has some potential for sure.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that is the biggest upside is like,
- 37:39Speaker 1: even if you're like you have an idea, like let's
- 37:42Speaker 1: say you couldn't find it, don't call me lucky sample
- 37:45Speaker 1: to flip, you know what I'm saying, Like in a
- 37:46Speaker 1: hypothetical world, like could like AI crank out like a
- 37:50Speaker 1: dry vocal or something that you could chop and make
- 37:53Speaker 1: your own and then you don't have to worry about
- 37:56Speaker 1: sample clearances and giving up a piece of the record.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Like that's kind of to me, like the slither that
- 38:02Speaker 1: like makes sense from a producer, It's like, Yo, we
- 38:04Speaker 1: need a choir. Well maybe I can't afford a choir,
- 38:06Speaker 1: and maybe I can't find the choir at won on
- 38:08Speaker 1: this old gospel record.
- 38:10Speaker 2: How can you know what I mean?
- 38:11Speaker 3: Like absolutely, that's a little shit like that. It's just sampling,
- 38:15Speaker 3: sampling two point zero, you know what I'm saying, right,
- 38:18Speaker 3: what about you?
- 38:19Speaker 2: Tf uh?
- 38:21Speaker 5: I think the same the same ship because like like
- 38:27Speaker 5: with videos, like with videos post production, like oh we
- 38:31Speaker 5: can't get this, we can't find this location, like even
- 38:34Speaker 5: if you can't find it with stock footage, you know
- 38:37Speaker 5: what I'm saying. So now with the AI generating, you
- 38:42Speaker 5: can generate music. Now you could go find something stock
- 38:46Speaker 5: a make something sound like this. I think I think
- 38:48Speaker 5: it's kind of dope. At the same time, it's still
- 38:51Speaker 5: kind of like I need some raw.
- 38:54Speaker 3: You know.
- 38:54Speaker 5: I still like I still like the raw feeling, but
- 38:57Speaker 5: I think it is I think I think it's dope
- 38:59Speaker 5: where we're at, you know, like like Mull said, like
- 39:02Speaker 5: we gotta you can't get lost. You can't get left
- 39:05Speaker 5: because it's going It's only gonna keep avall.
- 39:07Speaker 3: You cannot fight technology, man. You know, there was the
- 39:10Speaker 3: dude sitting there with the horse and buggy one day
- 39:12Speaker 3: and the car drove by and they was laughing at it.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Sitting there with the DJ.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Shit.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I feel like, like DJ, I remember you probably remember this.
- 39:17Speaker 1: All the DJ used to shoot on Serado.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Yo. I started DJing again because of Serato.
- 39:22Speaker 2: It makes it easier. You don't have to carry all.
- 39:23Speaker 3: These I had. I was so deep into production that
- 39:26Speaker 3: they would like come to a club and I was like,
- 39:27Speaker 3: I don't got the records. And then when Sarada came out,
- 39:29Speaker 3: I started doing. It made it exciting for me to
- 39:32Speaker 3: DJ because I could have my remixes in there, my
- 39:34Speaker 3: own songs that I didn't have on vinyls, you know
- 39:36Speaker 3: what I mean, And.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Before you had to have it pressed on Vinyl to
- 39:38Speaker 2: play at the club.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know there's always that opposite part, like
- 39:42Speaker 3: a bunch of weenie started DJing, just downloading songs and
- 39:45Speaker 3: sitting in there, sitting there with Shazam copying sets. But
- 39:48Speaker 3: you know, everything has both sides. It's always like that.
- 39:51Speaker 3: So I just focus on the positive side and what
- 39:53Speaker 3: I need to do and what my objective is and
- 39:55Speaker 3: and you know, what my goals are, and just move
- 39:57Speaker 3: forward like that. I don't give a fuck what nobody
- 39:59Speaker 3: says about nothing, because no matter what you do, some
- 40:01Speaker 3: donkey ass motherfucker got some shit to say.
- 40:04Speaker 1: When do you know it's time to like do a
- 40:08Speaker 1: new soul Assassins like album.
- 40:11Speaker 3: You know, I wasn't sure I was going to do
- 40:13Speaker 3: another one on the third one, but like.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Is so Assassin's four Is that a thought already?
- 40:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm gonna I want to find an
- 40:20Speaker 3: interesting angle because the reason I wasn't gonna do a
- 40:22Speaker 3: third one was, you know, the first one was pre mixtapes.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Then once the mixtapes came out, it was like.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Damn near like one of the first compilations like that
- 40:31Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I kind of remember as a kid.
- 40:34Speaker 3: So you know, if my record's coming out on Sony Music.
- 40:37Speaker 3: You know, people want to get paid or the other
- 40:38Speaker 3: labels wanted to get paid for their artists. If it
- 40:40Speaker 3: was a mixtape, they do it for free. So it
- 40:42Speaker 3: got harder to do those records. So I was like,
- 40:44Speaker 3: I'm not doing another one. But I was sitting there
- 40:46Speaker 3: and I had all these beats man, and I had
- 40:48Speaker 3: songs with people sitting around, one or two songs, had
- 40:51Speaker 3: three songs with Bodie, you know. I had Freddie Gibbs song,
- 40:54Speaker 3: but I didn't have Scarface on it yet. So I
- 40:57Speaker 3: was like, you know what, Oh, that record was hard.
- 40:59Speaker 3: I think it's time to do another Soul Assessin's record.
- 41:01Speaker 3: And then at the same time, I was like, I
- 41:04Speaker 3: need to make this bigger than just a record. That's
- 41:05Speaker 3: why we did the film as well. But I'm sure
- 41:08Speaker 3: there's gonna be a fourth one, but I'm gonna find
- 41:10Speaker 3: a unique way to make it that it isn't just
- 41:13Speaker 3: what I've done in the past, So you know, maybe,
- 41:17Speaker 3: uh shit, I'm not sure, but I'm gonna figure it
- 41:20Speaker 3: out for sure, something different, something unique.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I asked him who he'd want to do a joint
- 41:24Speaker 2: album with?
- 41:24Speaker 3: What about you?
- 41:24Speaker 1: Man, you have so many collaborative projects with so many artists,
- 41:27Speaker 1: who have you yet to connect with it?
- 41:29Speaker 3: You're just a fan of Shade shot Eh moment, that's
- 41:33Speaker 3: my dream?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I feel like Shade is the one concert
- 41:38Speaker 1: that like, if she went on tour again, there probably
- 41:40Speaker 1: isn't a dollar amount that I wouldn't pay to just
- 41:42Speaker 1: locked down some tickets.
- 41:44Speaker 3: You know, the last time she was on tour, I
- 41:46Speaker 3: missed it. I slept and I would. I feel the
- 41:48Speaker 3: exact same with them.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Like, man, don't let her ever go on Vegas residency
- 41:53Speaker 2: or something. I'm like, just take my money all day.
- 41:56Speaker 3: And I heard she's you know, rumor is she has
- 41:58Speaker 3: a project coming out, so I could maybe she'll one
- 42:00Speaker 3: more run for us.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Gotta be dope. Thatta be dope, man? What about what
- 42:05Speaker 1: about when you guys know it's time to come together
- 42:07Speaker 1: and do do the cypress think? I mean, obviously you're
- 42:10Speaker 1: so busy, be reals busy guy, man. Yeah, you guys
- 42:13Speaker 1: have so much going on. Is there is there a
- 42:17Speaker 1: point in time or you guys are like, hey, you
- 42:19Speaker 1: know it's the forty year anniversary or the thirty year anniversary,
- 42:22Speaker 1: or we got to come together, and we got like,
- 42:24Speaker 1: when when does the Cypress hill Hat come on for mugs?
- 42:26Speaker 3: I'm not sure, man, I'm not I'm not really sure.
- 42:29Speaker 3: You know. We'll see though. Yeah, you know, I do
- 42:32Speaker 3: have I have just put my all my old ship together,
- 42:39Speaker 3: and I got a bunch of songs. I found a
- 42:42Speaker 3: bunch of old Cypres stuff recorded around Temple of Boom time,
- 42:44Speaker 3: and you know, I'm thinking of what I'm gonna do
- 42:48Speaker 3: with it, you know, So I have my archive. I
- 42:52Speaker 3: had an archivist come and like put everything in order,
- 42:55Speaker 3: write everything down, so we was gonna get We was
- 42:57Speaker 3: gonna put it in u c l A be pre
- 42:59Speaker 3: covid because they have no hip hop, they have blues rocks.
- 43:02Speaker 3: So and what my goal is we're talking to Berkeley
- 43:05Speaker 3: right now. What my goal is is to take that
- 43:07Speaker 3: Cypress record all the unreleased songs, which is the Lost Temples,
- 43:11Speaker 3: and put it in the archive at the school. So
- 43:13Speaker 3: if anybody wants to hear it, they got to check
- 43:16Speaker 3: their phone in, they got to make the pilgrimage to
- 43:18Speaker 3: the school, and they can go in and listen to it.
- 43:19Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 43:20Speaker 3: You know. Some people like just put it out online
- 43:22Speaker 3: for the fans, and I'm like, yeah, but then that's online.
- 43:25Speaker 2: That's boring and it doesn't make it special.
- 43:27Speaker 3: But you know, if I could have this mystique in
- 43:29Speaker 3: this folklore behind them where people will make the pilgrimage
- 43:31Speaker 3: from around the world to go check out the projects
- 43:34Speaker 3: and sit down and see all the pictures and see
- 43:36Speaker 3: because I got all my notes from the records, like
- 43:38Speaker 3: ad eight away change the kid. You know, if they
- 43:40Speaker 3: could sit down and look at the notes and see
- 43:41Speaker 3: the recording process and hear this music, I think that's
- 43:45Speaker 3: the that's the angle I'm going.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Well, that's even something you could like low key do
- 43:49Speaker 1: because you know, like you'll see art museums travel right
- 43:52Speaker 1: where you'll see, like you know, a famous artist, like
- 43:56Speaker 1: let's say there's like a boss yacht exhibit that travels
- 43:58Speaker 1: for like a year, Like imagine it, Like you guys
- 44:00Speaker 1: did that over like a two or three year span,
- 44:03Speaker 1: where like Yo for the whole entire month of December,
- 44:06Speaker 1: if you're in Tokyo, go to the Tokyo Arts whatever
- 44:09Speaker 1: it is.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Oh, just have listening stations. You could hear each song.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Go to them.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Well like the experience you're talking.
- 44:14Speaker 3: About, Yeah, we just move it around absolutely.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Like, you know, that's something I feel like, that's like dope,
- 44:20Speaker 2: that'd be Yeah.
- 44:21Speaker 3: So, you know some I had a couple of cats
- 44:23Speaker 3: at the labels like you gotta do this, you know,
- 44:24Speaker 3: the fantas need to hear this. I'm like, nah, man this,
- 44:26Speaker 3: I want this to be right. I want I want
- 44:28Speaker 3: this ship to last forever and and just a new
- 44:30Speaker 3: way to put shit out and be creative and just
- 44:32Speaker 3: create that folklore.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. How awesome was it?
- 44:36Speaker 1: Twenty twenty One of my favorite documentaries was The La
- 44:38Speaker 1: Originals one because I do feel like Estevan and mister Cartoon,
- 44:42Speaker 1: especially Estevon man shot to him. He's such a good guy,
- 44:44Speaker 1: such underrated, underappreciated icons in the culture, and I felt
- 44:48Speaker 1: like that documentary was so important to tell their story.
- 44:52Speaker 2: How dope was that?
- 44:53Speaker 3: Amazing?
- 44:53Speaker 2: Yo?
- 44:54Speaker 3: To see my brother shine man, and to see where
- 44:56Speaker 3: they came from, and to see what they're doing. You know,
- 44:59Speaker 3: you see Cartoon doing Disney Nike Super Bowl commercials, you
- 45:03Speaker 3: know what I mean, and like a Steve On doing Chevy,
- 45:06Speaker 3: you know what I mean, doing fucking Disney as well,
- 45:09Speaker 3: and just like.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I mean, one of the most iconic photos ever.
- 45:12Speaker 3: Yeah, is La fingers.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Like when I was at the pop out, I bought
- 45:16Speaker 2: the PG lane es.
- 45:19Speaker 3: They just did a big art show in It was
- 45:21Speaker 3: a La art show in in London. Him Death for
- 45:25Speaker 3: and Chaz pulled up and it was just all La
- 45:27Speaker 3: lifestyle lesson for a month, sold out everything.
- 45:30Speaker 1: What were your Well, obviously you're a lot more closer
- 45:32Speaker 1: to TD, but I'm curious, just like mugs, you guys
- 45:35Speaker 1: that were kind of wrapped up in your own version
- 45:37Speaker 1: of like different hip hop beefs. I'd say, back in
- 45:40Speaker 1: the day, what was your just from being a hip
- 45:43Speaker 1: hop head man? What was your thoughts on just the
- 45:46Speaker 1: entire Kendrick Drake thing?
- 45:48Speaker 3: It was?
- 45:49Speaker 2: It was I thought it was dope. I thought we
- 45:50Speaker 2: got great love this dope.
- 45:52Speaker 3: I loved it, and I'm team Kendrick all day, you
- 45:54Speaker 3: know what I mean. So I was like, yeah, that
- 45:58Speaker 3: ship was five Kendricks, Beast Joe and that song he dropped, man,
- 46:03Speaker 3: I was like, man, this is out of here. I mean,
- 46:06Speaker 3: you know, since since since kores one and mc shan,
- 46:11Speaker 3: you know what I mean, since since while starting the
- 46:13Speaker 3: Coal Crush and the Fantastic Freaks, you know what I mean?
- 46:15Speaker 3: This this, this was built off of that just battling,
- 46:18Speaker 3: you know what I mean, None of that ship went
- 46:20Speaker 3: to the streets and nothing. So you know, but I
- 46:23Speaker 3: loved it. It was it was exciting for for this game.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I think we needed it.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I thought it was dope. And then I
- 46:28Speaker 1: even just thought, like even the Kendrick approach of like
- 46:31Speaker 1: hopping on like an Alchemists sample flip, just doing like
- 46:37Speaker 1: a version of a hip hop horror movie like this record.
- 46:40Speaker 5: I found out not too long ago that that was
- 46:44Speaker 5: sample from that uh that keep it thorough?
- 46:47Speaker 2: Ah, it was yeah, same sample.
- 46:49Speaker 5: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 46:52Speaker 2: I mean al did both beats. Yeah, So it makes sense.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Were you kind of because I feel like Mugs, you're
- 46:59Speaker 1: kind of a guy who's like I would say, the
- 47:06Speaker 1: you're very I feel like you're a unifying force in music.
- 47:09Speaker 1: So when there's like, let's say the ice cube cypress thing,
- 47:12Speaker 1: are you in the background trying to mend fences and
- 47:15Speaker 1: make sure it doesn't get out of control?
- 47:17Speaker 3: You know, at that time, we was young, and we
- 47:19Speaker 3: was aggressive, you know what I mean. It was a
- 47:20Speaker 3: different time. We was young dudes, man just ready to
- 47:24Speaker 3: go to war at that time, you know what I mean.
- 47:25Speaker 3: So no, not at that time.
- 47:27Speaker 1: What about cause you have a relationship with Everlast and
- 47:30Speaker 1: Evidence and you have a relationship with eminem Right, did
- 47:35Speaker 1: you try to step in in the background of that
- 47:37Speaker 1: thing and get people on the phone and make sure Nah?
- 47:41Speaker 3: I was like, what the hell y'all doing? Right? Sat
- 47:43Speaker 3: background was like, what are y'all doing? Man? Stop? You
- 47:45Speaker 3: know what I mean? Stop being so sensitive? Man, don't
- 47:48Speaker 3: fuck with him? And then bro, y'all don't want that smoke.
- 47:49Speaker 1: That was such a random time, yeah, because there was
- 47:51Speaker 1: like ev did the searching for Bobby Fisher and then
- 47:54Speaker 1: every Yeah, that was just and like, you know, I'm
- 47:56Speaker 1: a dilated guy, so I was like, oh.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Yeah, me too. Yeah. I didn't really know what's going on,
- 48:00Speaker 3: you know, but in hindsight, in hindsight, having an emotional
- 48:05Speaker 3: maturity at this point, if I could look back, I
- 48:07Speaker 3: would have just got Cube and go, hey, let's make
- 48:08Speaker 3: an album. Let's do Friday's Part two, Cypress and you guys,
- 48:12Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I would have had a
- 48:13Speaker 3: different approach on it. But you know, it was a
- 48:16Speaker 3: different time, man. Of course, because I'm the biggest fucking
- 48:20Speaker 3: ice Cube fan in the world. He's in my top three,
- 48:23Speaker 3: you know, as he should be. Yo, that man's amazing,
- 48:25Speaker 3: bro amazing.
- 48:27Speaker 1: I feel like, yeah, that would have been. That would
- 48:30Speaker 1: have been a special moment. If if somehow we could
- 48:32Speaker 1: go back and be like, Yo, nineteen ninety five we
- 48:35Speaker 1: had an ice cube cypress.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Record, Yo, that'd have went crazy.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Crazy, man.
- 48:39Speaker 1: So look, the album is out, the movie's coming out
- 48:42Speaker 1: for everybody to see.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna put it out worldwide May twenty second,
- 48:46Speaker 3: worldwide YouTube. We're gonna be a live on YouTube with
- 48:49Speaker 3: a Q and a, a Q and A and everything
- 48:50Speaker 3: on there, you know what I mean. Like I said,
- 48:52Speaker 3: it's the first hip hop sci fi gamer movie. You know,
- 48:56Speaker 3: going into the movie, you know, we went into it,
- 49:03Speaker 3: you know, kind of like not showing one hundred percent
- 49:05Speaker 3: what we were gonna do, but it kind of like
- 49:07Speaker 3: took on a life of its own as we went on, man,
- 49:09Speaker 3: and we created a masterpiece show. You know, it's a
- 49:12Speaker 3: little mind fuck at the end. Man, I think y'all
- 49:14Speaker 3: motherfucker's gonna fuck with this shit?
- 49:15Speaker 1: Was it like the whole plan the whole time to
- 49:18Speaker 1: do like a longer because you know, a lot of
- 49:19Speaker 1: times we'll see short films and this is a forty
- 49:21Speaker 1: minute joint.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Now we started at twenty involving We started at twenty
- 49:24Speaker 3: because it's expensive and it's hard to shoot a film.
- 49:26Speaker 3: We didn't have a script. Even when Frankie Frankie's doing
- 49:29Speaker 3: his lines, there was in a script. Everything's off off top.
- 49:33Speaker 3: You know. One thing well about this film going into
- 49:36Speaker 3: the film, AI was whack. I told gold Watch no
- 49:39Speaker 3: AI one. So we go into the film. We shot it,
- 49:43Speaker 3: you know, and we were supposed to get into one
- 49:45Speaker 3: of our B and b's at twelve in the morning.
- 49:47Speaker 3: We didn't get until nine at night. We didn't get
- 49:49Speaker 3: to shoot all the shots we had, so we had
- 49:50Speaker 3: some big gaps in this film. We didn't know how
- 49:52Speaker 3: we were gonna film and we we're gonna just do
- 49:53Speaker 3: some vocal overdubs, you know, and tell a story. Gold
- 49:56Speaker 3: Watch was against that. So, you know, he started working Cartel,
- 50:00Speaker 3: which is one of the top ten AI places in
- 50:02Speaker 3: the world. The guys have, like I was saying earlier,
- 50:04Speaker 3: five Navidia chips and the computers which are fifteen thousand
- 50:07Speaker 3: dollars a chip. So one day he sent me a
- 50:09Speaker 3: scene with the Chinese guy with the stripper, and I
- 50:13Speaker 3: was like, yo, that's crazy, he goes, that's AI, and
- 50:16Speaker 3: so he went backwards and filled in all these gaps
- 50:19Speaker 3: to fill the film, to fill the film. So you know,
- 50:22Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, I can fuck with this now
- 50:23Speaker 3: because it looks real and it makes sense. It ain't
- 50:25Speaker 3: the shit you're seeing on Instagram.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I thought it.
- 50:28Speaker 1: I feel like I was telling him. I was like, yo,
- 50:31Speaker 1: I knew the parts that were AI, but it didn't
- 50:33Speaker 1: feel yucky, if.
- 50:35Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Yeah, how everybody was going nuts on the ground for
- 50:37Speaker 3: a minute, and I was like, and you know, talking
- 50:40Speaker 3: to one of the top guys in the world. He's
- 50:42Speaker 3: telling me every three weeks to reinvents himself. So he
- 50:45Speaker 3: can't even keep up how fast it's reinventing himself. So
- 50:49Speaker 3: I think gold Watch did his thing. He pulled it off.
- 50:51Speaker 3: He's definitely a visionary, you know. And this is in
- 50:54Speaker 3: the lineages of a David Lynch, Alejandro Jodoroski mixed with
- 50:58Speaker 3: some street shits, you know what I mean saying. So,
- 51:01Speaker 3: you know, we didn't want to do the typical Scar
- 51:03Speaker 3: phase drug dealer movie. You see a lot of hip hop.
- 51:05Speaker 3: I'm tapping into that, which is dope. But we definitely
- 51:08Speaker 3: wanted to push the line on this one. Just creatively
- 51:10Speaker 3: and do something. Just out the fucking box.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Don't call me lucky is out. The album is dope crazy.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Features features are wild. Everybody got off on this motherfucker.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Ain't no luck man. It's all hard work, blood, sweat
- 51:23Speaker 3: and tears, staying up to six in the morning in
- 51:25Speaker 3: the studio, being away from your family, traveling. You know
- 51:27Speaker 3: what I'm saying. We're still working hard as hell. You
- 51:30Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 51:31Speaker 1: I'd love to see a TF man. Congrats on the project.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Thank you one of the best albums of twenty twenty six.
- 51:36Speaker 1: If y'all have not heard this album, just go press play.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Promise you lucky, you will not be disappointed. All right, man,
- 51:42Speaker 1: appreciate you all pulling up. And then we're gonna have
- 51:44Speaker 1: TF do a freestyle and separate video, and we're gonna
- 51:46Speaker 1: have Mugs pick a classic Mugs instrumental for him to
- 51:49Speaker 1: wrap over.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Can we do that?
- 51:51Speaker 3: Yes? All right? Thanks for having us home court.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Sure, thanks, but love fire.
