- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice, Daisy.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Today is a continuation of our Bump Group episode hosted
- 0:19Speaker 3: by our producers. Today, we have Shelby on again and Hi,
- 0:24Speaker 3: it's Reese. Today we're going to be hearing from some
- 0:27Speaker 3: soon to be sophomores who just went through their freshman
- 0:30Speaker 3: year in a sorority. We're going to be hearing all
- 0:32Speaker 3: about what they really thought of the recruitment process.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Let's bring them in.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Hi, girls, welcome. To start off, I'll just have you
- 0:42Speaker 2: go around and tell us your name and where you
- 0:44Speaker 2: all went to school.
- 0:45Speaker 5: I'm Katie and I went to TCU.
- 0:48Speaker 6: I'm Sadie and I'm also good at TCO.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I'm Jenna and I go to tc you as well.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Okay, thank you all for being here. Let's just start
- 0:57Speaker 2: with what your recruitment process was like just going into
- 1:02Speaker 2: it last year, how you fell all that.
- 1:05Speaker 5: I think going into it, I was like super stressed
- 1:08Speaker 5: out and like I've heard that like especially kind of
- 1:11Speaker 5: like near the South. In the South, it's like a
- 1:13Speaker 5: lot more competitive, so I think going into it, that's
- 1:16Speaker 5: kind of what I had in mind. But then after
- 1:19Speaker 5: kind of like the first day, all the nerves like settled,
- 1:22Speaker 5: and I think it was like a lot better than
- 1:24Speaker 5: I thought it would be.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like, literally walking into like my first house,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I was like, oh my gosh, this is not as
- 1:31Speaker 1: bad as I thought it was gonna be. And it
- 1:32Speaker 1: was totally like everyone's I feel like there is just
- 1:35Speaker 1: as nervous to see you and like just as nervous
- 1:37Speaker 1: to do all of it. So it felt just totally
- 1:40Speaker 1: easy and welcoming.
- 1:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:42Speaker 7: I feel like it kind of looks this big thing
- 1:44Speaker 7: in my head going into it, And then I remember
- 1:47Speaker 7: like calling my mom after and I was like, it's
- 1:50Speaker 7: just like talking to friends, but it's like you're just
- 1:52Speaker 7: getting to know each other and it's just, honestly, like,
- 1:56Speaker 7: what's such a good experience. I mean, you're talking to
- 1:59Speaker 7: all new girls and it's not scary at all, and
- 2:01Speaker 7: it's just you.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Just have to like be comfortable in it.
- 2:04Speaker 7: Though, But it definitely like took a house or two
- 2:06Speaker 7: to like feel comfortable and like, yeah, but honestly, it
- 2:11Speaker 7: was just so much fun in my opinion.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh my gosh. I remember like right before going
- 2:16Speaker 3: into that first house, I was like like freaking out
- 2:19Speaker 3: and thank goodness I had a house. Like I think
- 2:21Speaker 3: it's so bad to say, like it was a house
- 2:23Speaker 3: I was uninterested in because I don't like saying that
- 2:24Speaker 3: because you need to like keep your options open, but
- 2:26Speaker 3: like it was one that like I just didn't know
- 2:29Speaker 3: if it was gonna be my vibes. So I was
- 2:30Speaker 3: like happy because I was like it was like one
- 2:32Speaker 3: of the houses that I was like really interested in.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I was gonna be so nervous. I got in a
- 2:35Speaker 3: cat to like almost get it over with, which sounds
- 2:37Speaker 3: so bad to say, but it was nice then, Like
- 2:40Speaker 3: as soon as you sit down and talking to someone,
- 2:41Speaker 3: you're like, wait, this is like so easy, and this
- 2:43Speaker 3: is just like someone I'm getting to know, like if
- 2:45Speaker 3: I met them at a coffee shop.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Like yeah, so nice.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So when you guys were going through your own recruitment process,
- 2:53Speaker 3: when you were talking to different girls, I remember at
- 2:55Speaker 3: our school because I went to school with where all
- 2:57Speaker 3: you guys went, you would do to talk to like
- 3:00Speaker 3: two or three girls per round, depending on the house
- 3:02Speaker 3: and whatnot. But did you like ever catch on to
- 3:05Speaker 3: maybe like there being a reason you were talking to someone,
- 3:08Speaker 3: like maybe they were like, oh my gosh, I'm from
- 3:11Speaker 3: this hometown as well, or did you catch on to
- 3:13Speaker 3: any of that or did you think everything was just
- 3:15Speaker 3: like a coincidence.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I feel like it depended what house, because like some
- 3:19Speaker 1: of them obviously, like maybe some of the southern ones,
- 3:22Speaker 1: since for all from California, they didn't really know much
- 3:25Speaker 1: about me or like didn't really know much about like
- 3:27Speaker 1: my hometown. But I feel like in some of the
- 3:29Speaker 1: houses where I had like mutual friends or like had
- 3:31Speaker 1: people who kind of had more similarities to me, I
- 3:34Speaker 1: definitely like could see that I was getting matched up
- 3:37Speaker 1: to people, or like I feel like I was getting
- 3:38Speaker 1: mashed up to people who like also danced in high.
- 3:41Speaker 6: School or like stuff like that.
- 3:43Speaker 5: I agree, Or like a lot of them were like
- 3:44Speaker 5: same majors, and especially like the first person who like
- 3:48Speaker 5: greeted me at the door, I felt like I usually
- 3:50Speaker 5: had a lot like in common with, like whether it
- 3:52Speaker 5: was like hometown, like there's someone from like my like
- 3:56Speaker 5: rival high school who like was that or just like
- 3:59Speaker 5: Californ or like nursing something like that.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I agree.
- 4:03Speaker 7: I feel like it I would like sit down and
- 4:05Speaker 7: they'd be like, tell me by yourself, And for me,
- 4:07Speaker 7: I was like, I have a twin brother, so I'd
- 4:09Speaker 7: be like, Oh, I'm a twin and they'd be like, Oh,
- 4:11Speaker 7: I'm a twin.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And then I kind of I think it kind of
- 4:13Speaker 4: I caught on that.
- 4:15Speaker 7: It's like meant for that to happen, so the conversation
- 4:17Speaker 7: can like flow easier and and then you just like
- 4:21Speaker 7: talk about whatever from there. But yeah, I definitely call
- 4:24Speaker 7: onto that pretty quickly. So yeah, definitely connected to the
- 4:28Speaker 7: people you're talking.
- 4:29Speaker 4: To really well.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I was a dancer too, so I would always get
- 4:34Speaker 2: the dancers, and it was every single time. I think
- 4:37Speaker 2: the twin thing is funny though, because I think that
- 4:40Speaker 2: they see the word twin and they run with it.
- 4:42Speaker 2: It's like, oh, we have a twin. We gotta get
- 4:44Speaker 2: all the twins.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And yeah, literally, did you guys ever catch on to
- 4:49Speaker 3: like you would usually get the recruiter would get bumped
- 4:52Speaker 3: by someone and sometimes they would be like, Oh, this
- 4:55Speaker 3: person's also from the Bay Area blah blah blah. Did
- 4:59Speaker 3: you guys ever think maybe who they were getting bumped
- 5:01Speaker 3: with was on purpose?
- 5:02Speaker 5: I felt like sometimes it would be like a little
- 5:05Speaker 5: bit more distant, but like they always had something and
- 5:07Speaker 5: like it's so funny. They're like, oh my god, this
- 5:09Speaker 5: is my friend like blank, and they also like and
- 5:13Speaker 5: then the person get oh, you were talking about that,
- 5:15Speaker 5: and then it would like start your conversation for you.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I think that that's so funny also because I know that,
- 5:20Speaker 2: like as a P and N, you're kind of coming
- 5:22Speaker 2: out of high school most of the time, unless you're
- 5:24Speaker 2: rushing like as a second year, but when you're at
- 5:28Speaker 2: like the recruiter, you haven't been in that headspace as recently,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and so sort of relating over a high school spot
- 5:36Speaker 2: is funny at that time, Like do you think going
- 5:39Speaker 2: into it, you'll try to sway the conversations from the
- 5:42Speaker 2: shared commonality or interest or will you try to stay
- 5:45Speaker 2: in it or I guess, like what do you think,
- 5:48Speaker 2: what do you anticipate to help you, like understand the
- 5:50Speaker 2: girl better more rather than just talking about both doing
- 5:54Speaker 2: a sport how many years ago.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I kind of feel like it's it kind of helps
- 5:58Speaker 1: to like an easy conversation start. But then I think
- 6:01Speaker 1: kind of going off that and like making your own
- 6:03Speaker 1: conversations almost better because like, at least in my experience,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I felt like I was kind of having the same
- 6:08Speaker 1: conversation like over and over and over again. So I
- 6:10Speaker 1: kind of liked when they would kind of switch the
- 6:13Speaker 1: topic or like start talking about something new that I
- 6:15Speaker 1: hadn't really talked to any girls about yet.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I agree.
- 6:17Speaker 7: I feel like I really liked the rounds like maybe
- 6:20Speaker 7: sisterhood or like preference around where you can like kind
- 6:23Speaker 7: of skip over like the surface level stuff and get
- 6:26Speaker 7: like deeper. But I also think it's like that's how
- 6:28Speaker 7: what Sadie said, Like that's how conversation starts. Like it'd
- 6:31Speaker 7: start like, oh you did because I did cheer, be like,
- 6:33Speaker 7: oh you did cheer?
- 6:34Speaker 4: How is your relationship with your teammates?
- 6:36Speaker 7: And then it like gets into that and then into
- 6:38Speaker 7: like sisterhood talk and all that stuff.
- 6:40Speaker 4: So I think like it's a good conversation.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Started to also make the P and M like feel
- 6:45Speaker 7: more comfortable with who they're talking to, like that know
- 6:48Speaker 7: that they can relate to you in some way. I
- 6:50Speaker 7: think that also is a good good thing to like
- 6:53Speaker 7: lower your nerves totally.
- 7:05Speaker 8: Hey there, Amy Robock and TJ Holmes here from the
- 7:07Speaker 8: Amy and TJ podcast where we are doing the exact
- 7:10Speaker 8: opposite of taking a summer vacation. Yeah, I can't do that.
- 7:13Speaker 8: There's entirely too much going on in the world right
- 7:16Speaker 8: now to not be talking about all this stuff. Yes,
- 7:18Speaker 8: drama at the White House, drama at the World Cup,
- 7:21Speaker 8: drama about the Reflecting Pool, and yes, drama at the
- 7:24Speaker 8: Villa pool on Love Island. All day, every day, we
- 7:26Speaker 8: have you covered with the latest breaking news in the
- 7:29Speaker 8: stories everyone will be talking about. Listen to Amy and
- 7:32Speaker 8: TJ on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you
- 7:35Speaker 8: listen to podcasts.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I remember when I was going through recruitment, there was
- 7:44Speaker 3: a couple girls I had met that were in this
- 7:47Speaker 3: sorty and I couldn't tell they liked that more or
- 7:50Speaker 3: like disliked that more, like because I kind of had
- 7:53Speaker 3: like my spiel. I would say, when it was like
- 7:55Speaker 3: someone knew, I had no idea who they were. But
- 7:57Speaker 3: then when it was like someone I knew of or
- 7:59Speaker 3: kind of I knew like a lot of us, or
- 8:01Speaker 3: I guess from California, so like you knew a couple
- 8:04Speaker 3: of people in New York scorty, and I was like,
- 8:05Speaker 3: am I supposed to like talk about what is involved
- 8:08Speaker 3: in high school. That feels weird because I like know
- 8:10Speaker 3: who this person is, Like, did you guys ever like
- 8:12Speaker 3: hit any of those like roadblocks where were like I
- 8:14Speaker 3: don't really know how to like gauge this conversation because
- 8:17Speaker 3: I almost felt like I was still in an interview,
- 8:18Speaker 3: but I was like, I also like know this person,
- 8:20Speaker 3: and like this feels weird.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I think it was like the best when like I
- 8:23Speaker 5: would have someone who I like kind of knew and
- 8:26Speaker 5: then they they would break it and be like, oh
- 8:28Speaker 5: my god, like how tiring is this. I'm like, oh
- 8:30Speaker 5: my god, yeah, but they weren't supposed to yeah, And
- 8:33Speaker 5: so like I feel like that was like kind of
- 8:35Speaker 5: like a breath, Like it was like nice because like
- 8:37Speaker 5: they would break and then I'd be like, oh my gosh,
- 8:39Speaker 5: like it's been so long or whatever.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, totally, I feel.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Like it kind of it was like a breath of
- 8:45Speaker 6: fresh air in a way.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But it also definitely like I find it difficult to
- 8:49Speaker 1: have those types of conversations with someone who like knows
- 8:52Speaker 1: like all that about me already.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I was always so bad at that on the recruit
- 8:57Speaker 2: because it's hard to pretend like you don't know the person,
- 9:01Speaker 2: especially going to Like, I went to cal Poly and
- 9:03Speaker 2: everyone from California goes there, so I knew like half
- 9:06Speaker 2: the people I feel like, and then I would always
- 9:08Speaker 2: find myself like whispering because I knew I wasn't supposed
- 9:11Speaker 2: to when I was like, like, it's fine, we could
- 9:14Speaker 2: be normal, Like I don't know, but I.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Was not supposed to do that.
- 9:17Speaker 7: So there's like so many California like people that go
- 9:21Speaker 7: to TC too, So it's like so common that you're
- 9:24Speaker 7: gonna be talking to someone who's from your hometown or
- 9:28Speaker 7: who knows someone from your hometown and you know them.
- 9:30Speaker 7: So I think it'll be interesting to like have to
- 9:33Speaker 7: like try and keep having it. Yeah yeah, yeah, before
- 9:39Speaker 7: bid day, I know that that's one of like the
- 9:41Speaker 7: most tough decisions. Right before that, was there a moment
- 9:46Speaker 7: that was super special to you guys, are a conversation
- 9:48Speaker 7: that really sold you on one house over another.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I feel like for me, I was like super kind
- 9:54Speaker 1: of conflicted, like right before PREF, and then for me,
- 9:58Speaker 1: PREF kind of like steal deal.
- 10:00Speaker 6: For me, it was like it was just super special.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I talked to two girls like that I knew from
- 10:04Speaker 1: my hometown and from my dance team and it honestly
- 10:06Speaker 1: just was like the best I ever in It really
- 10:09Speaker 1: made me feel.
- 10:10Speaker 6: Like so excited and I totally knew what I wanted
- 10:12Speaker 6: to do after that.
- 10:14Speaker 5: I feel like I knew going into PREF like easily.
- 10:17Speaker 5: But people had like said and they're like, if the
- 10:20Speaker 5: other house during preth like ranks you higher, you have
- 10:22Speaker 5: like you get forced to go that one. And I
- 10:23Speaker 5: was like, oh my god, it's like Sadie knows, like
- 10:26Speaker 5: in the room, I like start crying and I was like,
- 10:28Speaker 5: I think if this house like ranks me higher, like
- 10:30Speaker 5: I have to go that one, and like it was
- 10:32Speaker 5: like stressful, but like during PREF, I knew like easily
- 10:35Speaker 5: which one I wanted to go.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I had like a conversation during prep
- 10:39Speaker 7: because I kind of went in conflicted but also leaning
- 10:43Speaker 7: more towards one house.
- 10:44Speaker 4: And I was the girl who was preffing me, he's now.
- 10:48Speaker 7: My big I remember she said, like even if you
- 10:52Speaker 7: don't like go this sorority, like we'll still be best friends,
- 10:55Speaker 7: Like we'll still connect after this, Like getting to know
- 10:59Speaker 7: you through rush has been so special, Like no matter
- 11:01Speaker 7: what you choose to do, like we'll be friends. So
- 11:04Speaker 7: don't worry about that, like, don't worry about how I'll
- 11:06Speaker 7: perceive you. And I think that is when I knew
- 11:09Speaker 7: that I was going to go the sorority that I'm in,
- 11:11Speaker 7: Like I think I said after that, I was like, no,
- 11:14Speaker 7: like I want to go like this, I want to
- 11:16Speaker 7: go this rority and so like that's exactly when I knew,
- 11:19Speaker 7: like that conversation, which was super special.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like PREF is like such a special
- 11:24Speaker 3: round for so many people, like I probably had the
- 11:27Speaker 3: same exact experience as Sadie, and like I literally was
- 11:31Speaker 3: so torn after my first house. I remember calling my
- 11:33Speaker 3: mom like crying, being like I genuinely don't know what
- 11:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna do. And then I went to my second
- 11:37Speaker 3: house and I was like, Okay, this is easy because
- 11:39Speaker 3: like their preth was so special to me, and like,
- 11:40Speaker 3: I feel like so many people just know after preth
- 11:42Speaker 3: and they like felt something that made them want to
- 11:45Speaker 3: go this swarty. But then being on the other side,
- 11:47Speaker 3: I always just felt so bad for the girls who
- 11:50Speaker 3: were torn during preth because what I did recruitment my
- 11:54Speaker 3: senior year, which you guys will realize is not becomes
- 11:57Speaker 3: less and less common, like as you get older less
- 11:59Speaker 3: girls do a but I preffed a lot of girls,
- 12:02Speaker 3: and it would make me so sad when girls would
- 12:04Speaker 3: come in like crying because they didn't know what house
- 12:05Speaker 3: to go, and I was like, you, like, shouldn't be
- 12:08Speaker 3: crying about this, Like of course in the moment, like
- 12:10Speaker 3: I was the same way, and it feels like the
- 12:12Speaker 3: end of the world, like what house you choose, But
- 12:14Speaker 3: it's like at the end of the day, like your
- 12:15Speaker 3: heart knows what to do, and like you shouldn't ever
- 12:17Speaker 3: feel like you're upsetting anyone or put hurting anyone's feelings
- 12:20Speaker 3: because you might choose to go to the other house.
- 12:22Speaker 3: But it's hard because you make all these connections with
- 12:24Speaker 3: these girls all week and like you feel really close
- 12:27Speaker 3: to them sometimes and it's like you don't want to
- 12:29Speaker 3: disappoint them. But like every girl I talked to that
- 12:31Speaker 3: I was like preffing. I was like, literally, we can
- 12:33Speaker 3: go have coffee next week. Like it's not that deep,
- 12:35Speaker 3: like if you go a different southrority, like we can
- 12:37Speaker 3: still be friends. Like don't feel like it's like the
- 12:40Speaker 3: end of the world, but it kind of sometimes feels
- 12:42Speaker 3: like it in the moment.
- 12:44Speaker 4: Mm hmmm, Yeah, I kind.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Of feel like I f like me and Katie, Katie's
- 12:48Speaker 1: my roommate, and that's what I was all sorried about.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, if we got different storties,
- 12:52Speaker 1: Like I'm so scared that it's gonna be like weirder
- 12:54Speaker 1: that we're not.
- 12:55Speaker 6: Gonna hang out all the time.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And like, now obviously we're best friends and we're living
- 12:59Speaker 1: together the next three year, So it totally ended up
- 13:01Speaker 1: working up fine. So I feel like that's good to know.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's like your friends, like in your roommates. It's really
- 13:07Speaker 1: not gett of the world or really that important.
- 13:11Speaker 3: But do you think it differs from different schools, because
- 13:15Speaker 3: I have heard schools that like it's very like Swarty,
- 13:18Speaker 3: like you kind of just hang out with your Swarty
- 13:20Speaker 3: But like at the school I went to, and I
- 13:22Speaker 3: know you guys went too, it was like so like
- 13:24Speaker 3: everyone was friends with everyone, Like there was girls that
- 13:27Speaker 3: were in like a group of friends that was like
- 13:28Speaker 3: one in each Swarty. Like it was so not like
- 13:31Speaker 3: you can only be friends with your Swarty sisters.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like that's like most friend groups are
- 13:35Speaker 5: like all different sororities, which I think is like good.
- 13:37Speaker 5: And then like everyone goes to each other's formals, like
- 13:40Speaker 5: everyone like knows each other, and like I feel like
- 13:43Speaker 5: it's been like really fun that way.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 7: I feel like having like Sadie and our friend group,
- 13:48Speaker 7: like we've connected with like more Zetas and like other
- 13:52Speaker 7: like girls. It's just I feel like it's just a
- 13:54Speaker 7: way to connect more with people. And I love that
- 13:57Speaker 7: about TCU because it's like you choose a store, but
- 14:00Speaker 7: like you can find friends in any sorority, and I
- 14:02Speaker 7: think that's like something really special totally.
- 14:05Speaker 3: And it takes a little bit for our listeners listening,
- 14:08Speaker 3: like if you're going through recruitment in this upcoming year,
- 14:10Speaker 3: just to like remember, like you can still be best
- 14:13Speaker 3: friends with like your roommate or whoever, like if they're
- 14:15Speaker 3: not in your swarty, to not feel like the pressure
- 14:17Speaker 3: to go with swarty just because your friends are. I
- 14:19Speaker 3: feel like it's so important to like go where you
- 14:22Speaker 3: like truly feel like it's the right fit for you.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And I went to a different school and it was
- 14:27Speaker 2: the same for me. I ended up living I never
- 14:30Speaker 2: lived in the house, but I ended up living in
- 14:31Speaker 2: a twelve person house with people from like a bunch
- 14:33Speaker 2: of different sororities and even non affiliated like people as well.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So it really is not the end of the world,
- 14:40Speaker 2: and that's definitely something that you should think about going
- 14:43Speaker 2: into it, so that you can have like more genuine
- 14:45Speaker 2: conversations that where you're not as like anxiety written and
- 14:49Speaker 2: like stressed out going into it, because then you can't
- 14:52Speaker 2: really put your best foot forward. But whatever happens is
- 14:55Speaker 2: gonna happen, and it's meant to be and you'll figure
- 14:57Speaker 2: it out.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Totally kind of talked about for a lot of you.
- 15:01Speaker 3: It was like pref that made the final decision. But
- 15:04Speaker 3: was going into recruitment, did you guys kind of have
- 15:06Speaker 3: an idea of like top houses maybe that you were
- 15:09Speaker 3: interested in or were you trying to really have an
- 15:12Speaker 3: open slate.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Yeah. I think I definitely had like probably four that
- 15:16Speaker 5: I was really interested in, and then like there were
- 15:20Speaker 5: probably like three that like I didn't know, and then
- 15:23Speaker 5: they're like two or three that I was like it
- 15:24Speaker 5: kind of like could like get to know or whatever.
- 15:27Speaker 5: But I definitely had some that like I really wanted
- 15:30Speaker 5: to be or like at least like get to know.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that was the same for me, Like
- 15:36Speaker 7: I had three that I like knew I would be
- 15:39Speaker 7: happy in and like kind of going into it, But
- 15:43Speaker 7: I also feel like going into it, I did end
- 15:46Speaker 7: up liking other sorties that I didn't think that I would.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Like as much, and so that was kind of like
- 15:52Speaker 4: surprising for me.
- 15:54Speaker 7: But going into it, I did have like an idea
- 15:56Speaker 7: of the three that I would want to go, But
- 15:59Speaker 7: I honestly like throughout Rush was kind of confused throughout
- 16:03Speaker 7: the whole thing because when you get when you go
- 16:05Speaker 7: there and you're making connections, it changes like your like
- 16:08Speaker 7: it changes everything versus hearing about something.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Do you guys feel like there was like one person
- 16:14Speaker 3: that you like connected with during recruitment that made you
- 16:17Speaker 3: like extra strongly feel about that soarty, Like because I
- 16:21Speaker 3: have friends who like talked to one girl throughout the
- 16:24Speaker 3: process and like we're obsessed with the house and then
- 16:26Speaker 3: joined and like weren't as interested in the rest of
- 16:29Speaker 3: the girls, Like they had such a strong connection with
- 16:31Speaker 3: this one person that they like felt like everyone was
- 16:34Speaker 3: like that and then they like didn't end up feeling
- 16:35Speaker 3: like this sworty was the right fit for them. That
- 16:38Speaker 3: was like I feel like I heard like going to Rush,
- 16:40Speaker 3: like don't do it like based on when you talk
- 16:42Speaker 3: to but like who like is in like that like
- 16:45Speaker 3: learn what it's called, like the lineup, like before you
- 16:47Speaker 3: got to the house and like look around. So I
- 16:49Speaker 3: think that helped during prep because like looking around, like
- 16:52Speaker 3: I loved like two girls in the house, but then looking.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Around, I was like I don't know. And then I
- 16:56Speaker 5: went to the other house, and I'm much happier because
- 16:58Speaker 5: like of my PC, because I feel like that really matters.
- 17:02Speaker 5: So I think like that fully, like there's some older
- 17:04Speaker 5: girls who I was like, oh my god, like I'd
- 17:06Speaker 5: love this to be my big or like all her
- 17:08Speaker 5: friends seem really cool, but then like in the grand scheme,
- 17:12Speaker 5: that's not who I'd want to like be in my
- 17:14Speaker 5: like PC with Yeah, I feel.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Like you're almost meeting more girls like just in line
- 17:18Speaker 1: waiting to get into the houses. Then you really do,
- 17:20Speaker 1: like do talk to inside the house. So I feel
- 17:23Speaker 1: like that was like a big thing is just looking
- 17:25Speaker 1: around and seeing like who like of the girls like
- 17:28Speaker 1: in your grade or in like rushing alongside you that
- 17:31Speaker 1: you really make connections with throughout the week, because I
- 17:33Speaker 1: feel like in line is when you make sometimes even
- 17:37Speaker 1: better connections than in the houses.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense because also in line, you have
- 17:41Speaker 2: like your guard fully down so that you're actually just
- 17:44Speaker 2: like talking, Not that the conversations inside aren't real, but
- 17:47Speaker 2: you definitely aren't. You're putting on your like best foot forward.
- 17:51Speaker 2: You're putting on a show a little bit. So then
- 17:53Speaker 2: when you're just around the people that are also in
- 17:55Speaker 2: the same boat as you, as easy to relate and
- 17:57Speaker 2: have like that common ground where you're making the same connections,
- 18:01Speaker 2: which is definitely important because that's also who you're going
- 18:03Speaker 2: to be alongside with for the rest of the year
- 18:04Speaker 2: and I mean hopefully the rest of the time you're
- 18:07Speaker 2: at the school. So that's definitely a good point for
- 18:10Speaker 2: something that our listeners should keep in mind. But now
- 18:13Speaker 2: that you guys are gonna be on the other side
- 18:15Speaker 2: of things, are you planning to do anything a little
- 18:18Speaker 2: bit differently? Like? I know that you have probably work
- 18:21Speaker 2: week coming up while you learn how to have those conversations,
- 18:24Speaker 2: But is there anything you know right now that you
- 18:26Speaker 2: want to do differently than the conversations you were approached with.
- 18:30Speaker 5: I don't know. I feel like most of them like
- 18:34Speaker 5: seemed pretty like natural. I think much mostly like making
- 18:37Speaker 5: it like as natural as like it can be like
- 18:40Speaker 5: obviously it's like everyone's like clapping when you first come in,
- 18:43Speaker 5: and like it's not that natural. But I feel like
- 18:46Speaker 5: trying your best to like make it seem like kind
- 18:49Speaker 5: of like not like it's a like a script or
- 18:51Speaker 5: something would be like what I'd try to focus on.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I feel like like what she said, not making it
- 18:57Speaker 1: seem like a script is kind of the most important
- 18:59Speaker 1: thing that I feel I'll think about because there's obviously
- 19:02Speaker 1: like certain things you want to say and certain things
- 19:04Speaker 1: you want to touch on. But I feel like those conversations,
- 19:07Speaker 1: like the few conversations I had where I felt like
- 19:09Speaker 1: the girl was kind of maybe like looking around and
- 19:12Speaker 1: saying just what she had to say, it got kind
- 19:14Speaker 1: of like then it made me want to kind of
- 19:16Speaker 1: look around and kind of get out of the conversation
- 19:18Speaker 1: a little bit. So I feel like just keeping like
- 19:20Speaker 1: super engaged and natural, yeah, is what we're on.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing, is just making
- 19:29Speaker 7: sure that the P and M feels comfortable and like
- 19:32Speaker 7: your conversation and like making sure that you're connecting with them,
- 19:36Speaker 7: like not making them feel like you're not interested in
- 19:39Speaker 7: the conversation. I feel like I never had that experience,
- 19:42Speaker 7: but I did hear of girls who didn't feel like
- 19:44Speaker 7: connected with the girl they're talking to, and that can
- 19:46Speaker 7: really make or break someone's experience. So I feel like,
- 19:49Speaker 7: just like giving everyone the attention and making them feel
- 19:53Speaker 7: like we want them to be here and all that stuff.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Like, I feel like that's the most important thing.
- 19:57Speaker 9: Totally Welcome to the Orange Doesn't Fall Far the podcast

- 20:25Speaker 9: of reality TV chaos.

- 20:28Speaker 9: One of us survived it. Listen to the Orange Doesn't
- 20:30Speaker 9: Fall Far. Available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, and
- 20:34Speaker 9: wherever you get your podcasts.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Now, maybe don't name this swarty if there's one in mind,
- 20:44Speaker 3: but were there any like red flags that you guys
- 20:47Speaker 3: experienced about a sworty going through recruitment that you were like, oh,
- 20:50Speaker 3: this is like accurate, like maybe that you heard about
- 20:52Speaker 3: from other girls or like that you like felt from
- 20:55Speaker 3: talking to them, and then when you got into your
- 20:58Speaker 3: swarty you were like, oh, that's true about this sority
- 21:01Speaker 3: or green Flogs too.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yes, I feel like, I mean, I feel like, yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 1: there definitely is Like I feel like before you even
- 21:10Speaker 1: go through rush, you just hear things from everybody. Everyone
- 21:13Speaker 1: talks and everyone kind of has their own opinions. But
- 21:16Speaker 1: I guess not like stereotypes, but like kind of maybe stereotypes.
- 21:20Speaker 6: There's probably a better word for that.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And I feel like during rush I didn't really see it,
- 21:25Speaker 1: but maybe like after Rush, like now that I'm in
- 21:29Speaker 1: a sorority and now like me and all the girls
- 21:31Speaker 1: and everything, I feel like maybe that you can see that's.
- 21:34Speaker 7: Kind of a thing sometimes, But I think it's also
- 21:37Speaker 7: like important to, like when you're there to think how
- 21:40Speaker 7: like genuine everything really is. I feel like with the
- 21:43Speaker 7: sorority that I ended up going, I could tell how
- 21:46Speaker 7: genuine every round of rush was, and the girls weren't
- 21:50Speaker 7: putting well, obviously everyone's putting on like a little bit
- 21:52Speaker 7: of a show, but it wasn't like the conversations were
- 21:55Speaker 7: not genuine, And I feel like in some of the
- 21:57Speaker 7: other sorties I definitely felt like it was very much
- 22:00Speaker 7: like put on a little bit to kind of to
- 22:03Speaker 7: try and grab you or like entice you.
- 22:05Speaker 4: And I don't know.
- 22:06Speaker 7: I feel like the sorty that I ended up going,
- 22:08Speaker 7: I kind of looked in the long run and I
- 22:10Speaker 7: was like, can I see these girls like continuing this
- 22:13Speaker 7: and like continuing this feeling of like sisterhood and friendship
- 22:16Speaker 7: and fun and all this stuff. So I feel like
- 22:19Speaker 7: that's something to think about. It's like not how you're
- 22:21Speaker 7: feeling just in that time when you're in the house,
- 22:24Speaker 7: but also thinking how it will look down the line
- 22:27Speaker 7: and thinking looking around the room and being like, are
- 22:29Speaker 7: these girls who I can see like truly being good
- 22:31Speaker 7: friends or is it just kind of like, oh, first
- 22:33Speaker 7: week of school, like just moved away from home, everyone's
- 22:36Speaker 7: nervous like for a new school year type vibe.
- 22:40Speaker 4: So I don't know. I think that's something important to
- 22:42Speaker 4: think about too.
- 22:44Speaker 5: I agree. I never felt like pressured to go the
- 22:46Speaker 5: sorority that I went, and like, I feel like in
- 22:48Speaker 5: like another house, they would always kind of be like,
- 22:50Speaker 5: so like are you feeling this, Like do you do you.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Like this house?
- 22:55Speaker 5: And like I feel like they always tell you, like
- 22:56Speaker 5: tell every sorority yes, So I'd be like, ome on,
- 22:58Speaker 5: like I love it, but like I felt like in
- 23:00Speaker 5: the one I went, I never was like pressured and
- 23:02Speaker 5: like they didn't like try to see like where I
- 23:04Speaker 5: wanted to go or like that sort of thing.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it was kind of like an egg for the
- 23:08Speaker 3: sororities that we're trying a little too hard to find
- 23:10Speaker 3: out what you were doing and like pressuring you because
- 23:14Speaker 3: you're told like not to tell them like your other
- 23:15Speaker 3: forties are like what you're doing, and like they're like
- 23:18Speaker 3: I had sorties that were just doing the most and
- 23:20Speaker 3: like one of them was like trying to like kind
- 23:23Speaker 3: of I forget the word, but like go around the
- 23:26Speaker 3: corner and like dirty dirty rush. Yeah, they were trying
- 23:29Speaker 3: to like dirty rush me a little bit and like
- 23:31Speaker 3: get news from my cousin who went to the same
- 23:33Speaker 3: school as me. And I was like that's such a
- 23:35Speaker 3: good turn off. Like I like, if you feel like
- 23:37Speaker 3: you have to go around and like cut all these
- 23:39Speaker 3: quarters and like then like that's not where I meant
- 23:42Speaker 3: to be. In this sorty, I also was like such
- 23:43Speaker 3: a little rule follower, and I was like I'm gonna
- 23:45Speaker 3: get cut up. I talked to them like so I
- 23:48Speaker 3: was like so worried about it, but like it just
- 23:49Speaker 3: goes to show like they felt like they needed to
- 23:51Speaker 3: like do all this stuff to like get someone, and
- 23:54Speaker 3: like that probably wasn't like the fit for me.
- 23:56Speaker 7: So also, like I feel like some of the conversations
- 23:58Speaker 7: can be like very fake almost like they'll compliment you
- 24:02Speaker 7: or say stuff to make you feel good or make
- 24:04Speaker 7: you feel like they want you there, but in reality,
- 24:07Speaker 7: like you're not having actual, like substantial, genuine conversations. And
- 24:11Speaker 7: I think like there's it's a short amount of time
- 24:13Speaker 7: that you're in there, so you have to make sure
- 24:14Speaker 7: that you're actually like learning about the sorority, what they do,
- 24:18Speaker 7: like and all that stuff, versus just like complimenting one
- 24:20Speaker 7: another being like I love your skirt, Like obviously that
- 24:23Speaker 7: feels great when you're in it, but when you like
- 24:25Speaker 7: look back now, you're like, no one really cares what
- 24:28Speaker 7: you're wearing, Like a week after you're.
- 24:30Speaker 4: In your sorority, Like, no one cares about your rush outfits.
- 24:32Speaker 7: It's about like the connections you made and who you're
- 24:34Speaker 7: gonna be friends with for the next four years and
- 24:37Speaker 7: hopefully after.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So okay, I'll ask you guys one more question, and
- 24:41Speaker 2: then I'll give it to Shelby if she has any more.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I just want to know, did you feel like the
- 24:47Speaker 2: version of the sorority you joined you saw during recruitment
- 24:50Speaker 2: actually matches what it's like to be in it or
- 24:53Speaker 2: has it exceeded it, has anything changed?
- 24:57Speaker 6: I'd love to know that. I think it fully like
- 25:00Speaker 6: seated it.
- 25:00Speaker 5: I think that like going in, I was like these
- 25:02Speaker 5: girls all seem like very like down to earth normal,
- 25:06Speaker 5: like not like doing anything like putting on like a
- 25:09Speaker 5: huge show. And then like everything I've seen since, like
- 25:12Speaker 5: all the older girls, they're like so normal. They like
- 25:14Speaker 5: love to like invite us places, and like they like
- 25:17Speaker 5: actually want to like hang out, and like I think
- 25:20Speaker 5: all of us and our bigs are all kind of
- 25:22Speaker 5: in the same friend group, which has been really fun
- 25:24Speaker 5: this year to like get to know everyone and like
- 25:25Speaker 5: that way. So I think if anything, it like exceeded
- 25:28Speaker 5: and it's very like open and like fun sorority. Yay.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like it exceeded everything. Also,
- 25:38Speaker 1: if I mean during preth it was so special and
- 25:41Speaker 1: I feel like it this whole year has been so special.
- 25:44Speaker 1: So now just excited to be on the other side
- 25:47Speaker 1: of especially pref and make it super special for the
- 25:50Speaker 1: girl on pref in and maybe my little or whoever.
- 25:54Speaker 7: I agree, I feel like going back to what I
- 25:56Speaker 7: said about making sure you're having like genuine, substantial conversations.
- 25:59Speaker 7: I feel like the version I saw of the girl
- 26:01Speaker 7: who prepped me who's now my big is like the
- 26:03Speaker 7: version the same version. Like I feel like nothing's changed,
- 26:06Speaker 7: Like I feel like I can remember like what we
- 26:09Speaker 7: said and prep and I feel like we still have
- 26:11Speaker 7: conversations like that now. And honestly, for every girl I
- 26:14Speaker 7: talked to in the storty I ended up going, it
- 26:16Speaker 7: feels like nothing has changed, and if anything, like I've
- 26:20Speaker 7: gotten so close with those girls I talk to and
- 26:22Speaker 7: it's so crazy to be like, I can't believe you
- 26:24Speaker 7: look rush for me and now we're like such good friends.
- 26:27Speaker 7: So honestly totally exceeded my expectations too, And like it's
- 26:31Speaker 7: so good to see that the girls I was talking
- 26:33Speaker 7: to during Rush word being genuine And it just makes
- 26:36Speaker 7: you feel good when you look back a year later
- 26:38Speaker 7: and you're like, I.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Made the right decision a hundred percent. So yay, Okay,
- 26:43Speaker 3: I have two questions to kind of wrap it up. One,
- 26:46Speaker 3: what are you guys most excited for to be on
- 26:48Speaker 3: the other side of recruitment and get to rush and
- 26:50Speaker 3: coming p and ms and maybe you're little and number two,
- 26:54Speaker 3: what like advice would you give a P and M
- 26:57Speaker 3: that's like about to get through recruitment this summer this year.
- 27:02Speaker 5: I think I'm most excited probably for PREF. I think
- 27:06Speaker 5: it was like so cool to like see like the
- 27:09Speaker 5: whole like kind of like production that they like put
- 27:11Speaker 5: on and like the like how special like it was
- 27:14Speaker 5: for like the seniors or even like the sophomores who
- 27:17Speaker 5: are preffing you. So I think That's what I'd be
- 27:19Speaker 5: most excited for. And then for advice, I think I
- 27:22Speaker 5: just say, like keep an open mind. Like I feel
- 27:26Speaker 5: like I like met so many people during rush and
- 27:29Speaker 5: like you kind of just like end up.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Where you're supposed to be.
- 27:32Speaker 5: You like meet the girls who are similar to you.
- 27:34Speaker 5: They pair you kind of like kind of like that
- 27:36Speaker 5: you're gonna meet girls similar and like you'll find where
- 27:39Speaker 5: you are without like trying too hard.
- 27:40Speaker 6: It will feel like natural.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm most excited probably for either PREF
- 27:45Speaker 1: or I'm also just super excited to kind of see
- 27:47Speaker 1: how it works on the other end, because I mean
- 27:50Speaker 1: we had a few workshops at the end of last year,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but I honestly still really don't know like how everything
- 27:55Speaker 1: works and how they peerr you up with everybody, So
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think I'm just kind of excited to see the
- 27:59Speaker 1: behind scenes of how it all works. And I think
- 28:02Speaker 1: my biggest piece of advice would just be, don't really
- 28:05Speaker 1: worry too much about what your friends are doing or
- 28:08Speaker 1: what maybe people girls from like your hometown are doing,
- 28:12Speaker 1: because in the end, wherever you end up is the
- 28:14Speaker 1: right place for you, And I don't think that like
- 28:17Speaker 1: the surety you're in will ruin any friendships that you
- 28:20Speaker 1: had prior to RUSH, So I think that's just the
- 28:22Speaker 1: biggest thing to think about.
- 28:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say I'm also most excited for PREF
- 28:28Speaker 7: but I also think I'm excited to like get close
- 28:31Speaker 7: with my PC more because everyone always is like during
- 28:34Speaker 7: the rush, you get so close with your PC because
- 28:37Speaker 7: you're spending so many hours together and then also watching
- 28:40Speaker 7: like all the girls in my PC, like all of
- 28:42Speaker 7: us together, like build a new PC of girls who
- 28:45Speaker 7: like we all love, who we're proud of and like
- 28:48Speaker 7: proud to have in our like sisterhood, which I think
- 28:50Speaker 7: will be like really cool to see and to watch,
- 28:53Speaker 7: and my biggest piece of advice is to honestly enjoy it.
- 28:56Speaker 7: I feel like it went by so quickly, and obviously
- 29:00Speaker 7: it's like there's times when it's so hard, but there's
- 29:03Speaker 7: times when it's so fun and it's something you experience,
- 29:05Speaker 7: like honestly once, I've never experienced anything like it before,
- 29:09Speaker 7: and so I think it's like such a great experience
- 29:12Speaker 7: you learn so much about yourself, and so honestly, I
- 29:15Speaker 7: would just say to enjoy it even when it's hard
- 29:17Speaker 7: and stressful.
