- 0:00The rumours aren't true for me this time, was it?
- 0:02I heard you were actually watching the Liverpool game this time, not me.
- 0:07Yeah, I was, yeah.
- 0:09Thanks for that.
- 0:10Yeah, I'm at my dad's house and he wanted to watch the Liverpool game.
- 0:15He's a red for anyone listening, is that?
- 0:17I mean, he's been an Everton season ticket holder now for 10 years.
- 0:23Yeah.
- 0:25and he's been going to watch Everton's first team for 30 years now.
- 0:29Is it 30?
- 0:30Yes, someone said it was 22 years ago.
- 0:32Darren Griffiths sent me a...
- 0:35I sent a message earlier in this week saying it was 22 years ago since I scored against Southampton in a certain game, which I had another 10.
- 0:43That's 30 odd years he's been.
- 0:45He's hardly missed an Everton game.
- 0:47So having grown up a red before I played for Everton, he's probably got every right to say he supports both.
- 0:53I mean, he takes his grandkids to the game.
- 0:54He does all of that.
- 0:56So, yeah.
- 0:57And he's finding it more difficult now.
- 0:59But, yeah, so anyway, I'm coming round to spend a bit of time with him, help him out with what he needs.
- 1:06And, yeah, when I do, he just makes me watch Liverpool, which actually I thought was a great first 15, 20 minutes.
- 1:13I was watching PSG Barca.
- 1:162-0 down.
- 1:17I didn't know that.
- 1:19Villarreal went 2-0 up and I was thoroughly enjoying that, the first bit of the game.
- 1:24And then inevitably Liverpool came back and won the game in the end.
- 1:29It ended up closer than it actually was in that second half.
- 1:32But I didn't get to watch City.
- 1:34I didn't get to watch the main game of the evening, which was PSG and Barca, wasn't it?
- 1:40Yeah, it was a good game, to be fair.
- 1:42PSG started definitely the stronger out of the two, and then Barca grew into it, but then PSG.
- 1:47They're just class, aren't they?
- 1:50They're really hard to stop going forward, and then defensively solid as well.
- 1:54Barca are missing a few players as well, though, if you've seen that.
- 1:58Yeah, but, I mean, you're talking about two top teams, and to compete against each other, you do need your very best.
- 2:05But PSG are just...
- 2:08They're hard to contain at the minute.
- 2:09It's no wonder they've won the Champions League last two years because they've got one of the hardest working teams about and they're all absolute quality players.
- 2:19And what the manager did, Enrique, because he obviously had, what was it, Mbappe and Messi and Neymar were a front three, not long back, basically realising these aren't going to work hard enough for what I need.
- 2:32They might be the best three individual players in the world, maybe.
- 2:37but I can't have all three of them in the one team.
- 2:39They're not going to work hard enough for what you need as a team to compete.
- 2:42And if you can get the best players in, young, which he did, and then you can get the work ethic within them, just shows how far you can take a team.
- 2:51I mean, wow, they're incredible.
- 2:53But they're brilliant to watch as well.
- 2:55That's the good thing.
- 2:56Some of the winning teams about across Europe now and over the last so many seasons may have been winning, but they're not always easy to watch.
- 3:04Even Man City were a brilliant team.
- 3:06they dominate the game so much and the ball so much that sometimes you miss the excitement of it.
- 3:12Sometimes you miss the action and the excitement because they dominate so much and then go bang, goal.
- 3:16You're like, wow, brilliant.
- 3:17But,
- 3:19I started a conversation there because City kept them over 30 passes, you know, so I missed that excitement of it.
- 3:24When I was watching the game today, literally in the first 10 minutes, I think Sam Matterface said, we can't even skip to a highlight here because every time we skip to a highlight, PSG are creating another chance.
- 3:34They're just constantly on attack all the time.
- 3:37Dead exciting to watch.
- 3:40Football, the players, frightening.
- 3:42It's like, it's just the speed of the play.
- 3:44It's just relentless.
- 3:45And it's, they don't even slow down.
- 3:48You know, when teams usually have a break and knock it back and play around the back, they're just not bothered.
- 3:53They just go for your throat every time to go for the jugular.
- 3:56Great football to watch.
- 3:57I mean, I don't know how anyone's going to keep with them.
- 4:00I mean, you look at Arsenal, what you've just said there, there's a spot on about teams who win and they win ugly.
- 4:06And that's it, that's it, art in itself, winning ugly, you know, just winning games.
- 4:10But I don't even think they can contain them.
- 4:14I just, even though Arsenal were so good defensively, I mean, they're struggling this season a bit, I think, a bit more defensively.
- 4:19But yeah, no, it's going to take some stopping to beat that PSG side.
- 4:25The only thing is, I mean, you're right.
- 4:28The only thing is you have to be good towards the end of the season.
- 4:32I have seen a lot of teams that have been good at this stage.
- 4:36You know, look at some of the teams that have started in the Premier League, winning the first five, seven games at times over the Premier League's time and can tend to fizzle out, whether that's lack of form, teams working them out, injuries.
- 4:51You just never know what happens over the course of the season, but they've been managed brilliantly to make them peak at the perfect time.
- 4:59I went and did the Arsenal PSG game at the Emirates
- 5:04about two years ago, the year that they won it for the first time.
- 5:07And Arsenal beat them 2-0 at the Emirates.
- 5:09Yeah, I remember that.
- 5:10Comfortably.
- 5:11PSG were okay.
- 5:13I did not think they were going to win the competition at that stage.
- 5:16And yet, they peaked and got better and better.
- 5:18And they're still, they still look like they're getting better, if I'm being honest.
- 5:22Massive part of that, Arsenal's definitely the league they play in, so they can peak.
- 5:26In England, you've got to be given 100% every week in every game.
- 5:30And it takes a toll on players.
- 5:32It's no coincidence that Arsenal are beating teams in the early stages of the Champions League and stuff like that.
- 5:38But for Paris, for Paris-Argermain, they're well looked after by the leagues.
- 5:44I mean, they're even given the week off.
- 5:46In the league, they don't play any games that are close to their games, and then they're given extra time off after the game.
- 5:52Whereas, literally, the French, and maybe the Spanish or the German League, them two leagues...
- 5:59They look after the teams who are playing in the Champions League, which is wrong.
- 6:03Yeah, and it's easier to do with the modern pro because they actually all want to, if they get a couple of days off, they actually all want to go and do recovery.
- 6:10Give me a couple of days off after a big win.
- 6:13You're winning every week, aren't you, Os?
- 6:16Go back to the generation before me.
- 6:17Give me two days off to go celebrate.
- 6:19I am enjoying three points.
- 6:21Never mind.
- 6:22Never mind on it more than that.
- 6:23Os, is that the area thing?
- 6:24Do you know if the gaffer comes in to use us and says, listen to you,
- 6:28Saturday 12 o'clock boys go out there and get three points from you today you're not coming in until Wednesday hell yeah really that was the thing yeah well Tuesday it influenced different individuals in a different way so obviously everyone loves the thoughts of of not waiting there were obviously one or two that'd be like oh I can't take that much time off I've got to come in and whatever it was you were thinking about Phil Neville there I could tell I knew you were I'm looking into your eyes you were thinking it was Phil Neville
- 6:57To be fair, Phil was a great pro.
- 6:59I didn't like the time off, but... Who's the other one?
- 7:03I would be...
- 7:05I don't know.
- 7:06Me.
- 7:06Just hated time off.
- 7:08But it would affect people in different ways.
- 7:11And what I mean is like one or two of the guys might go,
- 7:14brilliant it means you know they might have been from mainland Europe or a bit further afield brilliant that means I can actually go and see my family and take time to fly home and go and spend wow and maybe that'll get them to run around a bit more other people might think brilliant I can go
- 7:28on holiday for a few days, I can lullablong weekend.
- 7:31And others might have thought, brilliant, that means I'll be in the pub by half four and I can watch the half five game, have a good night and then have a great Super Sunday.
- 7:40Who's with me?
- 7:41Who's with me?
- 7:43Sounds like a ringie, that does.
- 7:45Who's with me?
- 7:46But obviously that changed, to be honest, as my career.
- 7:50As I was a young player coming through,
- 7:53God, that would have happened a lot with a few days off.
- 7:57The likes of Kev Kamms was... And not just him, by the way, but he was...
- 8:02Encouraging.
- 8:03He was a great social captain as well as a great player, Kev.
- 8:08But he wasn't the only one.
- 8:08Might have a captain.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:11You know, that was back when there was trips to Marbella at the end of every season and, you know, that kind of thing where you'd all go away as a team.
- 8:18That's when that kind of shout would influence...
- 8:23our generation.
- 8:24But anyway, yeah, modern players will go and be professional, which is what the game needs right now and it's certainly benefiting those teams that do it.
- 8:33Yeah, well, while we're chatting about those superstar teams and superstar players within them, Ballon d'Or is on a Monday.
- 8:40Have you got a favourite?
- 8:42I've been finding it really difficult to pick somebody this year.
- 8:44It's got to be Eddie Kane.
- 8:47If it's not Eddie Kane this year, he's never getting it.
- 8:50I don't know what more he can do.
- 8:53I agree.
- 8:55Well, we want him to win.
- 8:57I'm not sure about that.
- 9:00I want him to win.
- 9:00No, I do want him.
- 9:01I'm not saying I don't, but I just... Do you know, in all honesty, I don't really know him, but I just want the person who deserves it most to win it.
- 9:09And I think he's the most deserving, so do I want him to win it?
- 9:12I suppose I do, but I believe because he's the most deserving.
- 9:16That's sort of, again, that's why it's...
- 9:18it's all opinion, isn't it?
- 9:19So people will say, you know, a player that played for PSG that won, that won the European cup again, deserve to win it.
- 9:28You know, some people will say the team that won the world cup, it's got to come from, from them.
- 9:31It's got to be someone Spanish.
- 9:33Is there anyone that won the world cup and European cup?
- 9:35They generally will get the vote.
- 9:37So, um, I, I,
- 9:40You know, you look back over all them years and it was Messi and Ronaldo.
- 9:43There were some top players that didn't win it during that time because, you know, Messi and Ronaldo were incredible.
- 9:49But I think there were some seasons where it was right to give it to other people.
- 9:54Didn't necessarily spread it out as much as possible.
- 9:56And that's what Harry Kane's kind of...
- 9:59fighting forts for a fresh name to win it and I tell you what he couldn't have done any more this season really I know England could have won could have won the World Cup but he couldn't have scored any he's now I think it I think it was fifth
- 10:13He's now fifth on the all-time Bayern Munich goal-scoring list.
- 10:18All time.
- 10:19Already?
- 10:20He's only been there like two and a half seasons, maybe three, sorry, three seasons, two and a half, three seasons.
- 10:25He scored 154 goals for Bayern Munich.
- 10:28I know, we've got to put it into perspective, lads.
- 10:30I mean, the league's just... 61 goals it was last season, 51 appearances for Bayern.
- 10:37I get it, it's frightening, but it's in Germany, boys.
- 10:41Sorry.
- 10:42I mean, he's not doing that in the Premier League.
- 10:45He's not.
- 10:47He was your pick.
- 10:49No, listen, I know.
- 10:50I'm giving him it.
- 10:52Now he's telling us all the reasons why he can't win.
- 10:55I'm giving him it because he's been better than everyone else.
- 10:58Do you think he's been the best player in the world last year?
- 11:00Take the ball on the door.
- 11:03Was he the best player in the world?
- 11:04It's not that he's the best.
- 11:06Do you know what he's been?
- 11:07The most consistent.
- 11:09That's what he's been.
- 11:11He's been the most consistent and the best in Germany.
- 11:15Is that the best league in the world?
- 11:17Absolutely not, no.
- 11:18And if he was playing in England, if you put him at somewhere like Manchester City or you put him at Arsenal, then yes, he's probably the best player because he wins the Premier League with Arsenal.
- 11:26He scores a handful of goals for Arsenal.
- 11:30Could he be the difference in winning in the Champions League?
- 11:32Possibly, absolutely.
- 11:34It's just because he's in Germany and...
- 11:38And you're disrespecting the German football again.
- 11:41No, I'm not, but it's just, you know.
- 11:43Eileen Haaland's got a shout.
- 11:45Haaland's got a shout.
- 11:47He was brilliant in the World Cup.
- 11:48He was a monster.
- 11:50The Premier League's the best league in the world, and I believe whoever's shining in the best league in the world should be possibly up there to get it.
- 11:57But La Liga's a tough league.
- 12:00It's not as tough as the Premier League, but you've got some real quality in there.
- 12:04It's not very often that whoever's in the Premier League has won the Ballon d'Or.
- 12:10It's hardly ever happened.
- 12:12Roger.
- 12:12So that might be one of the reasons, well, it's certainly one of the reasons Trent publicly stated why he was leaving Liverpool.
- 12:19Harry Kane, whether he never publicly came out and said it, going over to Bayern Munich, not only to win trophies, may have been to see if he can compete for the Ballon d'Or.
- 12:28And he is definitely competing.
- 12:29And I don't know if he's...
- 12:32I don't know if he's going to continue at this rate.
- 12:35I'm not saying he's going to dip.
- 12:37I'm not saying this is...
- 12:39I feel like I'm saying this is his last kind of chance because he cannot possibly, surely, keep these numbers up.
- 12:45Not next year.
- 12:46How old is he now?
- 12:4734?
- 12:5132 yeah I think maybe 30 I'm not sure 33 I think because I think there was talk of him in 37 yeah 33 there you are for 37 this is his last big numbers season do you know what Noah shouldn't say that because he's in Germany he could have two more big seasons you said if we get our boots on and get over there now we could still be playing well me and you mate I haven't got I get boxing gloves on I've got a chance but not with a football boot to me not me
- 13:19Yeah, it's just...
- 13:20I'm not...
- 13:21I'm trying to...
- 13:22I'm not...
- 13:22I'm not being... Because I've got a huge admiration for it and I think he's a wonderful footballer.
- 13:27I think he's brilliant.
- 13:28But you can't... You can't get away from it and you've just got to be open and honest and say it's Germany.
- 13:34Do you know what I mean?
- 13:35You've seen this fella who's come over here playing for Liverpool, this Verts fella.
- 13:39You've looked at what he's done over there.
- 13:41He's absolutely tore it up.
- 13:42He's come over here, mate.
- 13:44And he can't answer Carl's banjo backside.
- 13:45Yeah.
- 13:47He can't hit the cows.
- 13:49There's a saying in there, go on, have another go.
- 13:51Go on, have another go.
- 13:52He can't hit it.
- 13:53He couldn't hit it, but it doesn't matter.
- 13:54Cows backside with the banjo.
- 13:56Yeah.
- 13:56There you go.
- 13:58I didn't know the saying.
- 14:00My words are just getting mumbled up.
- 14:02It's late.
- 14:03It's late.
- 14:03It's really, really late.
- 14:04I'm sorry.
- 14:06So all I'll agree with is, look, there are some quality teams in... Like Bayern Munich are a top two.
- 14:12There's no getting away from that.
- 14:14But what I will say is, which is what makes Premier League the most watched and the best spectacle across the league is the worst teams in the Premier League
- 14:26are better than the majority of teams in a number of other leagues.
- 14:30So the competition outside the top four teams in a good few countries drops dramatically.
- 14:38And that is why the Premier League is so hard to beat.
- 14:41And that is also why all the Premier League teams are getting to the very latter stages of not winning European competitions at the minute.
- 14:48they're all there about because not only can they perform at a decent level in Europe compared to other teams and sustain it for the majority and the most part in the Premier League, it's because they're squads.
- 15:00Even in the Premier League, even most of the worst squads or most of the average teams have good sized squads.
- 15:07coming back to us there's only us that doesn't but we're working on it I hope I hope that's going to be where we're going to go in January to bring in reinforcements because we need them don't we we need them alright in certain areas
- 15:22Well, you brought us up.
- 15:242-0 defeat to Chelsea the weekend.
- 15:26The first defeat of the season.
- 15:29I didn't think it was too bad first half.
- 15:30Second half, I did think was pretty poor.
- 15:33Let's pick apart the first half first.
- 15:36Ozzy, what did you think about the performance?
- 15:40I thought it was...
- 15:42I don't like being critical, too critical of the team because I know how hard it can be to get out there and play.
- 15:48But as a whole, it was our worst performance of the season.
- 15:52If I'm comparing it to others, we seemed a little bit off it, a bit flat.
- 15:56We couldn't find the spark.
- 15:58They...
- 15:59are a good team in possession and they will sort of try and, you know, get paper cut you with a thousand, you know, a thousand paper cuts to try.
- 16:07And so they keep the ball and they, and they, they try and take things away from you in that way.
- 16:11And they try and bore the game up by not letting us build up a head of steam.
- 16:15And we're a team that needs to go with momentum.
- 16:18We need to build up momentum with the game.
- 16:19The crowd got on side.
- 16:20We weigh you down.
- 16:21We get you forward.
- 16:22We,
- 16:23And not criticising Tieno Barry at all, because he only had one big chance in this game compared to other games.
- 16:32But if we score that, and we go 1-0 up at that point, which we need to, in those kind of games, we've always needed to take our big chance when it comes along.
- 16:41If we go 1-0 up, the crowd go insane.
- 16:44Chelsea's legs go a little bit...
- 16:46little bit soft.
- 16:47And they're the times that we've, we've beat the top teams and they've come to play us at Hill, Dickinson at Goodison, because we score the first goal.
- 16:54We have to score the first goal.
- 16:57And there was, there was two.
- 16:58So we missed that.
- 17:00There was, there was something I was worried about Chelsea starting quickly.
- 17:03They've scored the most goals early in games.
- 17:06We seem to get through that in the first half.
- 17:09And then for some reason, we forgot by the start of the second half that they tend to still start half strong.
- 17:14And they came out.
- 17:16It was like we forgot we need to be at our sharpest as soon as the referee blows our whistle.
- 17:20We started sloppily, go behind, and we were never going to recover from that point because we couldn't get a head of steamer.
- 17:27Yeah, do you think it's as simple as conceding that goal so quickly in the second half, just, you know, rip the rug from beneath us and we couldn't get going again?
- 17:36You've got to think about the chance that we missed, Nate, I'm sorry, but they're game-defining moments, they define games, and that miss is five yards out.
- 17:47Yeah, it's got to be better.
- 17:50I feel for them.
- 17:51I do.
- 17:52Because it's just five yards out though.
- 17:56And it's right at them.
- 17:57You know what I mean?
- 17:59I know you might see it late.
- 18:00I'm trying my best to defend it.
- 18:02But it's got to go.
- 18:04They're the difference in winning and losing games because we go 1-0 up, Aussies absolutely spot on.
- 18:08The crowd goes nuts.
- 18:10Chelsea's backs are against the wall and they're not the best at the back themselves.
- 18:16You know, they've got some fantastic players.
- 18:20Cole Palmer, Morgan Rodgers, Jao Pedro.
- 18:23You've got danger all over the place, but they're a bit dodgy at the back.
- 18:29And I just thought, that goes in.
- 18:31They start trying to really hit us then, and then they leave gaps at the back for us.
- 18:35Because, as I said, we've got some fantastic talent in the legs, like Keenan Deuce Biel, Tyree George, players.
- 18:42But Jack Grealish, when he gets hold of the ball, OK, does he slow the game down?
- 18:46Absolutely.
- 18:47But does he lose the ball?
- 18:48Not very often, no.
- 18:49He keeps the ball, and he keeps it in play.
- 18:52He's getting players moving into certain positions.
- 18:55We're creating so many more chances now as a team, which is mad.
- 19:01We've just got to start taking them, guys.
- 19:03In general, yeah.
- 19:05And going into other games other than this one, definitely on board with creating chances.
- 19:09But I didn't think we were anywhere near as sort of effective in this game.
- 19:15I didn't know if we were just taking too many passes.
- 19:17I didn't know if we were...
- 19:18We couldn't quite understand their system of being four at the back when they attack, but three at the back when they defend and wink for five at the back, I suppose is the best way of looking at it.
- 19:27And the spaces to get into, and obviously Caicedo came in.
- 19:30I mean, they hadn't kept a clean sheet since January.
- 19:34That's the frustrating part.
- 19:35Coming to our place, we're unbeaten.
- 19:37We've been doing well.
- 19:38We've been creating a lot of chances.
- 19:40And yes, we've been critical of Tierno Barry, but he only had one chance.
- 19:44And I know I said if we score that, we may go on and win the game, and we hope we will.
- 19:49But in previous games, we've given him at least three, maybe four.
- 19:53There's been chances for other people.
- 19:54He battled well as well, didn't he?
- 19:55He battled well all game.
- 19:57He ran his socks off.
- 19:58He tried, but it's just that clinical finish you need.
- 20:02When the moment comes...
- 20:05It's just a bit of composure.
- 20:08I mean, it's a free header.
- 20:09There's not even a challenge on him, is he?
- 20:12No.
- 20:12It's hard.
- 20:14But what was he saying?
- 20:15He's got the whole goal just...
- 20:17What you're saying, Chelsea have had 18 shots and we've had six.
- 20:21And in previous games, we've actually been creating chances.
- 20:25Why weren't we able to on that game?
- 20:27Was there anything that you spotted out specifically or was it an off day?
- 20:31I thought we were a little bit slow in possession.
- 20:33I thought we were taking too many touches at times rather than moving the ball quickly.
- 20:38Obviously, when you're doing that, you're saying there's a number of wrong decisions, whether it's to, as I say, to pass it forward quickly, to cut inside, to go on the outside.
- 20:46But again, we, saying at the start, we never built up a real sort of head of steam where we had them pinned back for 15 minutes where you think the goal's coming here.
- 20:57The goal's inevitable.
- 20:58It's happening.
- 20:59Just give it a second.
- 21:00It's, here it comes.
- 21:01I never really felt that.
- 21:04I thought Harrison Armstrong's tackle might have sort of instigated it, not,
- 21:12Even though I thought it was a good tackle and it got brought back because it was a yellow card.
- 21:16The whole incident itself, I thought might galvanise us to, you know, the fans are annoyed now.
- 21:22We're going to get on it.
- 21:23Here we go.
- 21:24We're going to get forward.
- 21:24We're going to create something.
- 21:27And to credit maybe Chelsea that they got the ball back off us and we didn't really get going anywhere, I think.
- 21:35Obviously, the injury to Martinez in the second half really took the sting out of the game.
- 21:41You know, wish him all the best.
- 21:43Probably needed an operation on his jaw.
- 21:46It was really severe.
- 21:48And with that big stoppage, when you need to go, when you have to go and chase in the game, it's tough to really get going and get that fire going again.
- 21:57Because there's no doubt we were poor.
- 22:00If I'm being completely honest, I think...
- 22:02I wonder if David Moyes had another look at his substitutions, whether he'd make the same ones.
- 22:07I've been calling out for Hayden Hackney to be getting a lot more game time and he was actually unused.
- 22:12No guard came on and looked like he hadn't played for a year.
- 22:16Yeah, that's a nice way of saying it.
- 22:19Which is inevitable because he hasn't played for a year.
- 22:22Having injuries coming back from is a bad one.
- 22:24Yeah, so that was inevitable.
- 22:26An Achilles injury or... Yeah, I know.
- 22:29Yeah, you know a lot about that, don't you?
- 22:31Yeah, I don't.
- 22:32Mate, I don't see how a player can ever be the same again after having one of them.
- 22:36Don't say that.
- 22:37I don't, mate.
- 22:38Honest to God, it's the worst injury I've ever had in my life.
- 22:41I don't understand how a footballer can come back from it.
- 22:44That is like... Oh, yeah.
- 22:46I mean, well, Jack said to me he was never the same after it.
- 22:49He didn't run anyway.
- 22:51No, I know, but listen to me.
- 22:55He seemed to run with a little limp of him, being completely honest, after the incident yak.
- 23:00I've got to be honest, Tony, I haven't seen you play as centre-forward before, you've done your Achilles and then seen your after.
- 23:05You've never been the same since.
- 23:07LAUGHTER
- 23:08Have you?
- 23:09You've not quite got back to those heights.
- 23:11You know, I've told you I'm going to send you my free kick.
- 23:13Don't start me off.
- 23:16Did you ever post that?
- 23:17No, I got posted at the end of the episode.
- 23:20Didn't get much response that, Tone.
- 23:23The people didn't like you.
- 23:24Once again, I don't even know where this is seen or where we get to watch it, but I'm pretty sure it's YouTube, so I'll have to drag that up somewhere myself and post it on my socials.
- 23:33Yeah, no, definitely.
- 23:35I didn't want to bring it up, but Maitland-Niles did get hooked again to probably poor performances on the bounce.
- 23:45Trying to put a positive spin on it, what does he have to do to get his head back up in the next game against Arsenal, his old club?
- 23:55Oz, you know, you're the footballer champ.
- 23:58Is this me again?
- 23:59This is Oz, definitely you.
- 24:01Oz's your question.
- 24:03Well, first of all,
- 24:07Again, it was right after halftime, the main sort of incident he got caught out with what was in Costas.
- 24:12And in his defence a little bit, again, it was a system situation as much as it was a 1v1 situation because he's marking what he thinks is a winger.
- 24:23Rodgers, he then has to switch.
- 24:25And I think Merlin Roll was in the team on that side to try and help with the fact that Chelsea do play a left back stroke, left wing back.
- 24:33There are moments where...
- 24:35There's a crossover period that's not as straightforward when you're playing with a wide man and a fullback.
- 24:40But there's no doubt that we got done at the start of that second half down that side.
- 24:45And he's been at the centre of goals we've conceded for the last two games.
- 24:51Now, for anyone who knew him as a player or had seen him as a player,
- 24:57there must have been some understanding that he's coming in as a full-back, yes.
- 25:02A reluctant one, because he still feels he's a midfielder, which we should tell you that he's not your out-and-out defensive full-back.
- 25:09He is a full-back that is very good in possession of the ball, that when we're going forward, will give us everything that we've been demanded as a right-back.
- 25:19or for a right-back that Jake O'Brien couldn't do.
- 25:21He'll put crosses in, he'll find through balls.
- 25:23Some of his passing's been brilliant.
- 25:25He's got an assist or two.
- 25:26He's got an amazing goal already from right-back.
- 25:30But then you have to realise he was a £4 million right-back for a reason because defending is in his out-and-out strength.
- 25:39I hope he can just keep going out there and playing his football and David Moyes can show him exactly how he sees him defending over the coming weeks and months because he's still only been at the club a short time.
- 25:52Would he be better at right midfield?
- 25:55right wing so then we haven't got a right back no I'm just saying you know I mean just try and get Jake in there and say listen we want to make this you go on to Arsenal Saturday it's a gimme in it you know no one's expecting us to get knocked on at Arsenal you go there to shut up shop and you throw you throw a back five a back four and you go Jake's in the back at the back and you go let's put him a bit further up the pitch where he can have a bit more of an impact as a player and
- 26:24Well, he can definitely play right midfield.
- 26:26He can definitely play centre midfield.
- 26:27He could have, for a start in that game or even during that game, put Merlin Roll right back, who does okay and has got good pace, crazy pace.
- 26:38And he could have put Maitland-Niles in front of him.
- 26:40He can rotate.
- 26:41I'm not saying he will.
- 26:42He's got a good pace.
- 26:43But it's an option.
- 26:44Going to Arsenal, their wingers are generally either their best or their quickest players, aren't they?
- 26:51When they play Maitland-Niles out there or as they play out there.
- 26:55So, yeah, I think maybe he does go with Jake O'Brien in that game.
- 27:00Yeah.
- 27:02Because Jake is, for all of his faults, in possession of the ball, he's rapid and he's strong and he's not necessarily easy to beat in those situations.
- 27:11So maybe he does do that.
- 27:13Maitland-Niles, look, he's an experienced player as well.
- 27:16He'll know he's made a mistake.
- 27:17He'll want to get out there and do something positive.
- 27:19That's how I'd be feeling.
- 27:20I'd be thinking, right,
- 27:22I may have been at fault, but next time I go out, I'm going to try my best to be the best defender that I can.
- 27:27But I'll tell you what, my passing is going to be great because that's what I'm good at.
- 27:30My crossing is going to be great because that's what I'm good at.
- 27:33I'm going to try and either set a goal up or score one.
- 27:35I'm going to be running forward.
- 27:36I'm going to be doing all of this because...
- 27:38I want people to talk about it in a positive way now.
- 27:41That's the way I'd be feeling.
- 27:42You know what I think we should look at?
- 27:44A big thing is Chelsea are the good side.
- 27:48We're good players.
- 27:49It's players who can punish you.
- 27:51£100 million plus players all over the park.
- 27:54And as I said, you've seen that.
- 27:57You've seen that on Saturday.
- 27:59You've seen the quality that they have on the pitch.
- 28:02And I just think that was the difference there.
- 28:05Yeah, I don't think anyone's doubting Chelsea's...
- 28:07I think we said last week that they'll come and we might have to score a couple of goals to keep them out because they are very good going forward.
- 28:14I think the whole disappointing thing of the day, if we'd have come away...
- 28:18And drew 1-1, 1-2.
- 28:19I mean, I think we all expected them to score a goal.
- 28:22We picked Everton to win, I think, last week, but we all did it with Chelsea scoring one.
- 28:26We expected Chelsea to score.
- 28:28The disappointing thing was, Chelsea haven't kept a clean sheet since January, and we never really offered much against them.
- 28:35Their sub-goalkeeper came on, who was, I think, making his debut, and I don't think he made a save.
- 28:40Didn't test them, that's all.
- 28:42That was the disappointing thing.
- 28:44We never got going in an attacking sense, which had actually been a reasonable strength of ours up until that point, playing against a team that hadn't really done anything.
- 28:53So that was a frustrating thing.
- 28:55And for us to have made substitutions and Diblin maybe who could have affected the game, I know it's...
- 29:04I said maybe it wasn't a game for him in terms of what he'd have to do going backwards.
- 29:08But, you know, he's someone that can create.
- 29:11Hackney, I told you I'm a big fan.
- 29:13I thought he might get a chance to go on.
- 29:15Because when he came on previously, was it against Ipswich or Pala, whichever game Ipswich, he came on busy, busy, passing the ball, moving it, playing and following, creating a set up to Rick George for the goal when he moved out to the right.
- 29:28Just busy getting and being positive with the ball.
- 29:30That was what we needed.
- 29:31We needed something to get on the ball and make something happen.
- 29:34maybe maybe we'll see some changes for next week it's it's it's mad because we're going away to arsenal which is the one where generally you need to go shut up shop and be difficult to beat because there what you don't want to go is try and go there and open up a play and giving them the opportunity to score loads against you because if you give them the opportunity by opening up they'll score loads but if you if you keep it tight you might get something they might beat you 1-0 but
- 30:00As long as you don't do anything stupid.
- 30:01Do you know what?
- 30:02I don't think this is the Arsenal team of last year.
- 30:05I don't think they're the same.
- 30:06I just don't think they're the same level.
- 30:07They haven't been fantastic the last few games, have they?
- 30:09No, they haven't.
- 30:10Teams have got at them and they've lost.
- 30:12So, you know, they've showed they can be beaten.
- 30:16Yeah, this isn't like last season when you go and then you think, oh, well, the Nidans are not near.
- 30:22You know, you get an early goal and as a player, do you turn up at somewhere like here and you just know you feel no pressure there?
- 30:30Like, no one's expecting us to do anything.
- 30:32Lads, let's just go and have a go at them and see what happens.
- 30:37Yeah, and no.
- 30:38So you feel like this is going to be a difficult one and you're probably thinking no one's going to be really critical of us if we don't get much.
- 30:45But at the same time, the reason for that is... No, the reason for that is you're playing against quality players.
- 30:50So you also know if I don't work as hard as I possibly can and I don't follow the script that we've come game plan-wise and I go and try and play my own game and leave holes everywhere, then as a team we're going to get done.
- 31:03So you go there with...
- 31:07with a sense of freedom that maybe you can go on a counter-attack a bit more, maybe you can do this a bit more, maybe you can get on the ball at times in games, but you know, you're not going there with an open, complete freedom because you know, if I just turn up and act like this is a free hit, then, you know, we could get done.
- 31:23So we need to work hard.
- 31:23What's the gaffer's attitude, guys?
- 31:25What's the gaffer's, like what's he, what's, you're not just, and you've been there millions of times and you know, you're facing top of the league, the reigning champions.
- 31:33Is he, what's his attitude like with the,
- 31:38What's he telling them?
- 31:39Like, is he going to get at them?
- 31:40He wants to stay in the game.
- 31:42He wants to stay in the game.
- 31:43He doesn't want to get beat.
- 31:44This is just, you know, how it seemed to be set up when I was with David Moyes the first time.
- 31:50It was stay in the game.
- 31:51Because if we get to a certain part in the game, we can win from there.
- 31:55But we can't win the game if we're 3-0 down in the first 10 minutes.
- 31:58So stay in the game.
- 31:59Work hard.
- 32:00Stop them playing there.
- 32:01Stop them playing there.
- 32:02Be good on set pieces.
- 32:04Yeah.
- 32:04When you get the chance to attack, get forward.
- 32:06When you get the opportunity to put the ball into dangerous places, do it.
- 32:10You know, don't be...
- 32:12It was the feeling of don't work all our way up to their box and then start turning around and going backwards because it took us a long time to get up there.
- 32:18So when we do get up there, actually deliver the ball in, make sure we get in the box.
- 32:24But we never ever went anywhere to lose.
- 32:26And we never ever went anywhere to actually just hope we could get a draw.
- 32:30We weren't there to win games.
- 32:31It was just a more practical way of doing it.
- 32:34Well, under Roberto, we'd go to places and try and take them on.
- 32:40And Roberto was like, look, we're a good team.
- 32:42Let's go and play, you know, that freedom that you've just said.
- 32:43Let's go and be free.
- 32:45Let's go and play, which was fine for some places because at Old Trafford, we went and won that time because we played with a freedom.
- 32:51They weren't expecting it.
- 32:53But sometimes we went to Anfield and got beat 4-0 and 5-0.
- 32:56Sometimes we went and played Chelsea.
- 32:57We got beat 6-3.
- 33:00Because there's a balance to that mindset.
- 33:03That's why his Wigan team, some of his Wigan teams, went and actually got shock results places.
- 33:07But some of them, they lost 8-9-1 to Spurs.
- 33:10They lost 8-0 to the loss.
- 33:12They were losing massive.
- 33:13So it's a balancing act.
- 33:15And Everton Football League can't lose 5s and 6s a lot.
- 33:19No.
- 33:19Yeah.
- 33:20You know, it makes sense what you've said.
- 33:22I mean, you're not going to win a game in the first half an hour, but you can certainly lose a game in the first half an hour.
- 33:28Against the top teams, if you think about it, if I put it into context of a European tie, you know, just watching Man City, Arsenal, even Liverpool at times, when they go away from home to teams that are superior than them,
- 33:47They don't go there to take them on in the first 10 minutes.
- 33:50They go there to stay in the game.
- 33:52Always, no matter how good a team you are, you go there to quieten the crowd in the first 15 minutes, to stay in the game.
- 33:58Hopefully what you're doing actually works and you dominate the game.
- 34:02But you don't go there to go, right, let's just go play basketball with them in the first 10 minutes and see how it goes because, you know, you're on a high end to nothing doing that.
- 34:12So it's going to be difficult going to Arsenal, no doubt about that.
- 34:15But we do have a team that generally its strength is defending.
- 34:20They've got a game midweek.
- 34:21We haven't.
- 34:22We've got to take advantage of that.
- 34:24We have got a small squad, yes, but they're getting plenty of rest, recuperation behind them.
- 34:31Let's just hope he's got as many numbers as he needs to rock up to the Emirates on the weekend and get something.
- 34:37Look, we went there last year and did quite well.
- 34:40We sat there Sunday.
- 34:42We're Saturday, 3 o'clock.
- 34:43We're Saturday, 3 o'clock, yeah.
- 34:45We did quite well last year.
- 34:47Arsenal must play tonight or tomorrow?
- 34:49Tomorrow.
- 34:51Tomorrow, not tonight, yeah.
- 34:54Who do they play?
- 34:54I can't remember who they play.
- 34:56Tomorrow.
- 34:57I'm sure it's a decent game.
- 34:59Yeah, I'm not sure who they're playing tomorrow.
- 35:01No, they're playing that Viking, is it?
- 35:04Viking?
- 35:05Who's playing them?
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:07There's an English team playing them.
- 35:09I'm going, I'll have a lot now.
- 35:11Arsenal, no, they're away at Bayern Munich.
- 35:12Bayern, Bayern Munich.
- 35:14Come on.
- 35:14I was watching that one.
- 35:16Yeah, I knew it was a good game.
- 35:17You knew it was a good game, that's why you just said they're playing Viking.
- 35:20Has Viking got a... Viking, Viking, Viking.
- 35:22Viking, Viking.
- 35:23It's not, it's Viking.
- 35:25You couldn't work out what it was.
- 35:27Viking got a great result against, was it last week, Bayern, was it?
- 35:32Did they end up drawing it, or did they lose?
- 35:33Yeah, they were winning.
- 35:34They were winning, where did they end up?
- 35:36Someone got a last-minute goal against them.
- 35:38I remember they went it was a big result I remember they went ahead in the game I'm sure it was Bayern yeah it was 3-3 there you go see I told you they were 2-0 up at half time Bayern went 3-2 up I remember at the start of the second half because as I was watching another game it kept popping up and then yeah it ends up being 3-3 great results so your mate Harry Kane and then also Harry Kane goes to his boyhood club
- 36:10Well, he is.
- 36:10He's an Arsenal fan.
- 36:11Is he?
- 36:12Didn't you know that?
- 36:13He's not an Arsenal fan.
- 36:14Hardy came as an Arsenal fan as a kid.
- 36:16Was he?
- 36:16He's a Spurs legend.
- 36:18He's an Arsenal fan as a kid, isn't he?
- 36:19He's a Spurs legend, but he's an Arsenal fan.
- 36:21It's a fact.
- 36:21No way.
- 36:22I didn't know that.
- 36:23100% fan.
- 36:23It is.
- 36:25It does, doesn't it?
- 36:26Don't you start me off, you.
- 36:27Don't you start me off.
- 36:31This episode of Outside the Box is sponsored by Bell Lamp and Joints and Solicitor.
- 36:36We're delighted to bring on BLJ as our first ever sponsors of the podcast.
- 36:39And especially with some of the opinions that Ozzy and Tony come up with, it probably seems sensible to bring a legal partner on board first.
- 36:45For more than 200 years, Bell, Lamb and Joinson have been helping people across Liverpool for all of their life decisions.
- 36:51Whether it's expert family law, conveyancing, wills and probates, or sorting disputes, their team is there when it matters most.
- 36:58A lot has changed since 1821, but their commitment to helping people has never waned.
- 37:03Bell Lamb and Joyce and Solicitors, by your side since 1821.
- 37:10One thing I did want to say while we were on Arsenal, obviously Brighton did manage to beat them 3-0.
- 37:17Is that because Brighton found a way to beat them or are Brighton just actually really good this year?
- 37:22Good team.
- 37:22They won 5-0 again on the weekend.
- 37:23Good team.
- 37:24Good team, Brighton.
- 37:26Not looking forward to playing them.
- 37:29Good side playing football.
- 37:30They play Liverpool Sunday at Anfield and they could actually...
- 37:35I tell you, they'll fancy themselves.
- 37:37The way I've seen Liverpool play and the way Brighton are playing, that wouldn't surprise me if Brighton won that game.
- 37:42That's how good Brighton are playing.
- 37:44Joe, when does it become a conversation when Brighton are... We know that they're competing for the Champions League.
- 37:51Liam, it's already a conversation, mate.
- 37:53They're fighting for the Champions League.
- 37:55Yes, over the Champions League.
- 37:57But what about the title?
- 37:57I don't know.
- 37:58Stop it.
- 37:59What if City get points to Doctor?
- 38:00No, no, no.
- 38:01Stop it.
- 38:01Stop it.
- 38:03Be of yourself.
- 38:03Yeah, well, that'll come into it.
- 38:05Oh, come on.
- 38:06Stop it.
- 38:07No, it has to be after Christmas that you have to wonder if they're being consistent.
- 38:11If we're seeing them being consistent, I can't say anyone's challenging for the title except the usual suspects after seven games.
- 38:17Yeah.
- 38:17However, Brighton have started brilliantly.
- 38:20They are playing a style of football that I think a lot of fans would want to see.
- 38:28They pass it at times, they play it at times, but they're not shy of just putting it into the channels and playing forward and winning the second balls.
- 38:36They're an all-round team, and it's catching a few people out.
- 38:39They've got real quality.
- 38:41I mean, the guy scored from his own half at the weekend, Gomez.
- 38:43That's amazing.
- 38:45Is that already one goal of the season?
- 38:47Possibly.
- 38:48That manager, I know what's going to happen.
- 38:50That manager, he's going to be somewhere and he's going to pull a mask off and it's going to be Jürgen Klopp under that mask.
- 38:58I'm telling you now, Tim.
- 38:59It's him.
- 39:00He's come back.
- 39:00He's come back to haunt us all.
- 39:02He's back.
- 39:03Because they're football-like players, just like Liverpool's football.
- 39:06They are a really good team, mate.
- 39:08They are.
- 39:11They're not winning the league, but I'm telling you now, they're in and amongst the Champions League places.
- 39:16And they will continue it.
- 39:17Because, you know, success breeds success.
- 39:21And they'll all be feeding off it.
- 39:22I would imagine their dressing room as well be on fire.
- 39:27They look consistent at the moment.
- 39:30That's the best thing about them.
- 39:32And they beat Arsenal, not only by the way they played, they actually beat them at set pieces as well.
- 39:39I think they scored at least one, maybe two from set pieces.
- 39:41So basically, what's your strength?
- 39:44What do people think your strength is?
- 39:46Well, we'll not only beat you to others, we'll beat you to that as well.
- 39:49It's a great mindset.
- 39:51Arsenal haven't scored one of this season yet.
- 39:55No.
- 39:56Is it because... Have they lost their superpower?
- 40:00It's Saliba, isn't it?
- 40:01He's the one.
- 40:02He's the one who's missing.
- 40:06Gabriel's the guy who goes head in the ball.
- 40:08Brighton are doing this right.
- 40:11I mean, considering all the talk that we've had about Man City and Chelsea's even to a lesser extent and spending money and buying players, LeFrancic, Brighton are like the Premier League dream.
- 40:26What I mean is of how they've done it.
- 40:28They've come up.
- 40:29They've scouted amazingly.
- 40:31They've sold well.
- 40:32They've then bought new players for cheap, scouted amazingly, sold well.
- 40:36And think of all the players that they've sold to Chelsea's and Liverpool's and Man Utd's and all these teams over the years.
- 40:43And now they've suddenly got to the point where they're like,
- 40:46right, I reckon we can start keeping a couple of these players now.
- 40:48We're in a brilliant space or whatever you call it.
- 40:51Our money's in a perfect moment.
- 40:54We're now high enough for the league.
- 40:55We're getting a Champions League this year.
- 40:58We can now start saying to teams around the world, come to us because we've shown that you can, one,
- 41:06go on and play for top teams if you want.
- 41:07But two, rather than keeping you for a couple of years now, we want you to stay here.
- 41:12Because actually, we're sure we can compete and look at how well run our club is.
- 41:16I mean, they are.
- 41:17Could they do a Leicester?
- 41:20I don't think they can, but what do you think?
- 41:23I don't expect them to.
- 41:26Leicester's...
- 41:27But could they?
- 41:28Leicester was a bit of a freak in terms of.
- 41:30Leicester had an amazing season.
- 41:32off the back of everyone else really struggling.
- 41:35And the points tally that they won was lower than expected.
- 41:37And brilliant.
- 41:39But Arsenal aren't going to drop away that much this year.
- 41:41City's going to have to... What if they stay in the Champions League?
- 41:43...have the points took off them.
- 41:45Other teams are... That's what I'm saying.
- 41:47City losing points is a big factor.
- 41:49Arsenal won the league and got to the Champions League final last year.
- 41:51So you're saying if they stay in the Champions League, Arsenal nearly won four trophies.
- 41:54I get that.
- 41:54Arsenal are capable with their squad of staying into the end.
- 41:58Brighton, I think, could.
- 41:59But...
- 42:00I'm trying to play devil's advocate.
- 42:02So City get deducted points.
- 42:05Liverpool aren't having the best season.
- 42:07I don't think Brighton can win the title this year.
- 42:09Never do I. I'm trying to play devil's advocate.
- 42:12But the trajectory Brighton are on, we used to say they can't in four years' time.
- 42:17Because no one, like, I'm just thinking the City losing points, getting points off.
- 42:21I set you up to say, tell Brighton to get back in their box there.
- 42:25I expected you to tell them to know who they are, your usual statements.
- 42:29Oh, no.
- 42:29We know who them clubs are.
- 42:30I literally teed it up for you.
- 42:32I know, I know, but no.
- 42:33They need to stop it.
- 42:35Yeah, some of them do need to stop it and behave themselves.
- 42:37I mean, you know what I mean?
- 42:38Some of them do, but I'm just going to leave them this week because they've already found out the place of some of them this week.
- 42:44You know, the ones who have come up, they've been taught a lesson.
- 42:47They know the place now.
- 42:49Behave yourselves.
- 42:49Go back and behave.
- 42:51Grow up there.
- 42:54But as for them, just playing devil's advocate, I just think, if City do get the points off,
- 42:59it throws the league wide open.
- 43:00Liverpool aren't playing great.
- 43:02United are all over the place.
- 43:05Chelsea are a good side, but they're not really consistent yet.
- 43:09You don't fear them, do you?
- 43:11I mean, less they're playing Everton.
- 43:14So it's just, the more I think about it logically, the more I think it could be wide open.
- 43:20And I think Arsenal look like they're going to be throwing everything at Europe this season.
- 43:26Yeah, but I still think they'll want to win back-to-back titles.
- 43:29I still think it's Arsenal that now that they've won it the first time, I think there'll be a little bit of nous, a little bit of know-how.
- 43:36You see it in their results now, making sure they get that over the line against Nottingham Forest, making sure they get that point because they realise even now they can't drop points, you can't afford to drop points.
- 43:46You get the job done, someone steps up and either scores a scruffy goal or an amazing goal or a team goal, they get the job.
- 43:53done but i'm telling you if the trajectory is is continued then who's to say brighton car because they've pushed pushed and pushed and they've gone from basically they're doing exactly what i would love us to do over the next
- 44:07Eight years.
- 44:08And I'm, yeah, no one won't, everyone will have hated the fact I've just said eight years.
- 44:13Everyone will be thinking four, three, but it doesn't, it literally doesn't quite materialize that quickly.
- 44:21So I'm saying seven, eight, if we can end six, between six and eight years, eight.
- 44:25get ourselves into that position where people just expect us to be challenging for the Champions League all the time.
- 44:32That would be amazing.
- 44:33But, it's baby steps to get there.
- 44:36We can't just suddenly click your fingers and you're there.
- 44:39But, Brighton show, Bournemouth to a lesser extent in terms of the journey they've been on from the bottom of League 2 when they were nearly out the league to now being
- 44:48in European football and competing in Premier League, the journey that you can go on.
- 44:52And Brighton have shown that actually just European football isn't necessarily a limit.
- 44:57They're now thinking Champions League.
- 44:58They're now thinking further up.
- 44:59So, yeah, it is possible.
- 45:01And with investment, with savvy business, with buying cheap, selling high, with everything that goes into doing that, that it is possible.
- 45:14Anyone know what's going to happen with this stupid City thing?
- 45:17I mean, because, you know what?
- 45:19If they take points right to us, you're playing for City.
- 45:23What's going on?
- 45:23Like, what do you do us as a player?
- 45:27Because surely it's not in any of the contracts, is it?
- 45:31And I'll bet you none of them have got like a relegation clause in the contract.
- 45:35So if they just go, listen, you're a Manchester City player, I don't care if they're in the championship or not.
- 45:40If they've got five-year deals, eight-year deals, and they just go, you're playing in the championship for a year.
- 45:45Like, where does that, what happens?
- 45:48As long as you're getting paid.
- 45:50the players won't be that bothered.
- 45:51Yeah, I reckon a load of them will stay, yeah.
- 45:53If they're getting the money.
- 45:54What I'm saying is, there'll be one or two of them that want to leave because they want to go and play in the Champions League.
- 45:59But if it's...
- 46:00It all depends.
- 46:00I'll tell you now, mate.
- 46:01If it's one year...
- 46:02They'll be walking out in the Championship.
- 46:05If it's one year, they might do it.
- 46:07Look how many players go off to play Saudi Arabia for years and years.
- 46:11Lee, come on.
- 46:12Just one year?
- 46:12Come on.
- 46:13Boys, come on.
- 46:13Stop it now.
- 46:14Stop it.
- 46:15Just behave yourselves.
- 46:16Loads of them have done that, haven't they?
- 46:18Sheik, he is not walking out in the AFL, mate.
- 46:21He's just not walking out in the Championship.
- 46:23What you've just said.
- 46:25You've just said that they won't have transfer exits in their contract.
- 46:32Right?
- 46:32They won't.
- 46:32They can't have.
- 46:33Yes.
- 46:34So you're saying City go down, or that was what the punishment was.
- 46:39You're saying they all leave.
- 46:39They can't all leave.
- 46:40City can't allow 12, 14 players to leave.
- 46:43They can't.
- 46:43They can't play in the championship.
- 46:45But they have to.
- 46:46They can't play in the championship.
- 46:48But I just, I'm just not sure if, I honestly don't know.
- 46:51It's killing football.
- 46:52I don't know.
- 46:53It's going football.
- 46:54I am petrified and I'm not even a City fan.
- 46:57It's frightening.
- 46:58It's truly frightening.
- 47:00It is frustrating to watch every week that goes by, especially with they've got a perfect record.
- 47:06You just feel like you can't get a full grasp of what is actually happening in the league, if that makes sense.
- 47:12At the moment it feels a little bit sort of, not empty, but...
- 47:17like City are top of the league and we're all like instead of us being like wow who's going to catch them we're like everyone's thinking no one they've caught themselves they're going to be back yeah we're going I'm right you're going to do it last time yeah well I bet you know a lot of Everton fans are thinking well we'll be above them in a month so yeah
- 47:35No, I don't think, I'm not sure we will, because they'll probably just take 10 points off Everton as well.
- 47:39So, you know, you just never say never.
- 47:42I don't know, it's just me, it's just whatever.
- 47:47It's killer, it's just going to kill the game.
- 47:51It's going to kill the game.
- 47:52It really is, because, like, this is just a no, I told you, I genuinely hope, right, it comes out, and they go, right, Abu Dhabi did fund them all the time it was legal.
- 48:03I really do.
- 48:04And I know that sounds terrible, but it'd just be so much better for the game if that was the case.
- 48:11It really would, because you know what?
- 48:12This is an absolute shit show.
- 48:17You're going to throw a team out the league, right?
- 48:21And they've got the most valuable squad in the league, and you're just like, where are they all going to go?
- 48:25What's going to happen?
- 48:26But it's happened in other leagues, hasn't it?
- 48:28Juventus, Rangers, have been top teams in their leagues.
- 48:31Not like this.
- 48:33Not in the same fashion.
- 48:35I would actually argue that some of, like, Juventus' crimes are worse than the City's.
- 48:40Oh, yes, they are definitely worse.
- 48:42That's like out of the...
- 48:44I think they were bribing referees.
- 48:47That's off the strictest scale.
- 48:49This is just purely as being a fan of the Premier League, being a fan of Everton.
- 48:54Like, they're just going to throw a team out the league.
- 48:57Yeah.
- 48:57It's nuts.
- 48:59Who are you putting in?
- 49:01That's okay.
- 49:02Who's getting in?
- 49:05They're just going to go wherever it's up at the championship.
- 49:07Now, come on, lads, let's go.
- 49:08Come on.
- 49:09Paki's stuck in the Premier League.
- 49:13It's the worst mess I've ever known in football history.
- 49:18I reckon there'll be a point deduction that makes it impossible for them to come back until the end of the season, if that makes sense.
- 49:25I don't think they can kick them out mid-season, surely not.
- 49:28I don't know, but I'm hearing that it's imminent.
- 49:31There's a result that's imminent.
- 49:33Obviously, they have the appeal and whatever have you, but they're all playing these games.
- 49:39Every team who plays City each week, it could be for nothing.
- 49:43They're just going to go back, give the whole team three points each.
- 49:47I have no idea what's going to happen.
- 49:49And I don't know what the punishment will be, but I'm, I'm sort of laughing at, do you know the way,
- 49:57obviously there was the 115 charges and everyone was like, well, we don't know.
- 50:01And all the former players were like, well, we don't know because, um, you know, we trust the club and, and, and, um, you know, we'll wait and see what happens.
- 50:10And we'll wait and see until the verdict comes out.
- 50:12And then the verdict come out and said, we have found them guilty, guilty, guilty.
- 50:17And all the play, all the four players are now going, no, I'm still just, we're not guilty.
- 50:21We're just going to wait till the appeal.
- 50:22And everyone's going, but you've just been found guilty.
- 50:24It's like, no, no, not, not until the appeal.
- 50:25Like,
- 50:26No, but you've been found guilty now.
- 50:28You've been found guilty now.
- 50:29That's the whole thing of just being found guilty.
- 50:32No, no, no, no.
- 50:33Only after the appeal does it matter if we're guilty.
- 50:35And I'm like, surely.
- 50:38It's like getting set down, I don't know, for a crime and you're guilty.
- 50:43And then you still say, well, I'm not because I'm not the appeal.
- 50:47Just can't get my head around people's reactions to it.
- 50:49Not even defending it in that way.
- 50:51Just coming out and saying, well.
- 50:53We're not yet, we haven't had the appeal yet.
- 50:56Mate, all I can think of is Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder in that movie where he goes, where they're in the courtroom.
- 51:05Oh, what am I thinking of?
- 51:06What's the movie called?
- 51:07Which one?
- 51:08Where he goes, you sure you got the right case?
- 51:10He goes, you're going to jail for 115 years.
- 51:12And Richard Pryor, he goes, you got the right case?
- 51:18All I can see is him.
- 51:21Oh, I need to look that one up.
- 51:22People are all in the halls, right?
- 51:24My favourite film of theirs is You'll never see that.
- 51:26See No Evil, Hear No Evil.
- 51:28Oh, that one.
- 51:28It's not that.
- 51:29That one's unbelievable.
- 51:31Oh, what is it?
- 51:32I'm going to Google that while we're talking.
- 51:34Just trust me, when you watch, it's one of the funniest movies I've ever watched in my life, ever.
- 51:40You've got the right case.
- 51:43That's great, that.
- 51:45Oh, he describes himself.
- 51:47Just trust me.
- 51:47How it's left me in mind, I don't know.
- 51:52No, we'll dig it out.
- 51:54Someone else show the... As soon as the air has been saying it, trust me.
- 51:58Stair Crazy.
- 51:59Stair Crazy.
- 52:02Stair Crazy.
- 52:03Stair Crazy.
- 52:03Trust me, you watch Stair Crazy and watch Richard Pryor in court with Gene Wilder.
- 52:07Is it definitely Stair Crazy?
- 52:09It's 100% Stair Crazy.
- 52:09Yeah, absolutely.
- 52:11Prison comedy to unemployed friends in New York.
- 52:13I'm going to have to watch that.
- 52:15I'm not seeing that.
- 52:16Just watch that.
- 52:16Oh, trust me, you'll cry laughing.
- 52:19Just thank me later.
- 52:20But this is a mess of the highest proportion of all time.
- 52:25It's just... Like, we shouldn't even be bothered because it's nothing to do with us, but
- 52:31It could ruin the whole league, and it just needs sorting out.
- 52:39But I don't even know how to do it.
- 52:42I have no idea on how this is going to go.
- 52:44Before, I said give each team that's been affected over the 10 years, 100 million each, because you get 100 million at the start of each Premier League.
- 52:52So each team should get an extra 100 million, and that can go into your transfer kitty.
- 52:56And then after that, I would say 10 points off City for the next nine seasons, each season.
- 53:02I think that's fair.
- 53:03Have you got the right case?
- 53:04That's a lot.
- 53:04Have you got the right case?
- 53:06That's a lot of money.
- 53:09That's a lot of money.
- 53:11It's a lot of money.
- 53:12It is a lot of money, but ultimately, right, it is a lot of money, but it's obviously not too much for them.
- 53:17And they're the ones who spent it.
- 53:19We didn't spend it.
- 53:20They've spent basically a billion quid extra than everyone else could spend.
- 53:23So give each team 100 million.
- 53:26It makes perfect sense.
- 53:29I think it's brilliant.
- 53:30And that worked out.
- 53:31They've got to give away 2 billion 20 teams.
- 53:33And then also 10 points each season.
- 53:35Just the 2 billion?
- 53:37Just 2 billion.
- 53:38What about the teams that aren't in the Premier League anymore?
- 53:40No.
- 53:41She's just had a great injection of cashmere.
- 53:43Well done.
- 53:44Come on down.
- 53:45The price is right.
- 53:46Now you're talking three billion by your methods.
- 53:50What?
- 53:50Now you're talking three billion.
- 53:52No, I'm not.
- 53:53I'm just talking about that.
- 53:54We're talking from teams that may have been in the Premier League in 2008.
- 53:58Yeah, but go through the teams that were in them seasons.
- 54:01And so Everton were in there consistently the whole time.
- 54:03They're getting 100 million.
- 54:05Liverpool, Man U, all them teams that have been consistently in.
- 54:08And the teams that have flitted in and out, I don't know how you'd make that work.
- 54:12But possibly say 50 million for you, 50 million for you.
- 54:15But each team gets 100 million that have been consistently in the Premier League.
- 54:19The big boys like us.
- 54:20Well, that, okay, but now we're talking about a bigger divide because now the top teams are getting more money and the teams that are trying to get up to them are getting less money.
- 54:27And by the way, we're only talking about charges up until 2018, 19.
- 54:34I don't think they stopped at that point.
- 54:39You got the right case.
- 54:43I'll tell you.
- 54:45I'm not going to be getting on with them.
- 54:49On field.
- 54:49Let's round it up.
- 54:50Very quickly, score predictions for the weekend.
- 54:52Oh, Jesus Christ.
- 54:571-1.
- 54:59I'm going 0-0.
- 55:01Oh, that'd be the dream.
- 55:030-0.
- 55:03That's Jordan Pickford and me for fancy football, getting some big points.
- 55:08You need them as well, by the way.
- 55:10Oh, yeah, you're back.
- 55:10You keep him behind when he's down, why don't you?
- 55:12Jesus Christ.
- 55:13Me and us, you're only one point between us now.
- 55:15Who's winning?
- 55:16Ooh.
- 55:17May by one.
- 55:18Oh, man.
- 55:194.15.
- 55:19I'm between us.
- 55:21Rain and you in, aren't I?
- 55:23Didn't even get a chance to tell you how I went and did that program with Howard Webb this week.
- 55:28You know, the ref one.
- 55:30Oh, no.
- 55:30Did you?
- 55:31He's been having meetings with coffers.
- 55:33Yeah, it's out this week.
- 55:34No, I didn't have a meeting.
- 55:36Basically, do you know he does that program once a month where he...
- 55:41Where he goes on telly and does the decisions, and Michael Owen usually hosts it.
- 55:45Yeah, yeah.
- 55:46I hosted it this time.
- 55:47He's right.
- 55:48Yeah, I thought we'd have a chance about that.
- 55:50You should have thrown them off.
- 55:51You should have kicked them off.
- 55:52And given me all the card when he was on his way out.
- 55:54Have a watch of it, because one of the decisions that he talked about was the whole Johnson offside.
- 56:00And what did he say?
- 56:03He explains the reason why it is offside.
- 56:06So anyway, right.
- 56:09Yeah, he convinced me.
- 56:11And I think if you watched it, I think if you watch it... You've changed.
- 56:14To be fair.
- 56:15See what's best.
- 56:16See what's best.
- 56:17See what's best.
- 56:17See what's best.
- 56:18See what Coppers does.
- 56:19I love you.
