- 5:40quick, because you're hearing this on the on the 30th, it's
- 5:44the last day of April. And then May 1st is when the
- 5:50album that I've produced Till the Final Twilight dies, right?
- 5:54That or till the final Twilight Dies is is the name of the album
- 5:58and that's dropping or becoming available for purchase
- 6:03worldwide. It's a digital download.
- 6:05I releasing it on May 1st and then we're doing a listening
- 6:08party over on YouTube and Facebook.
- 6:10So if you're listening to this and you want to listen to the

- 6:27enjoy it. My book is up out there for sale
- 6:31too. The Heron, the saga of the Heron
- 6:33that flies to hell. Links for that are going to be
- 6:35somewhere down in the description or show notes
- 6:38somewhere. And then I've got my rune
- 6:43course, the rune study course. It's not really a rune study
- 6:45course, It's a rune casting course that I'm offering.
- 6:48It's a nine month long course called the Living Food Arc.
- 6:52Enrollment is open now until the beginning of June. 1st class
- 6:56starts in June, and then there's one class per month for nine
- 7:00months. You want to know more about
- 7:01that, head on over to randomheathenramblings.com/the
- 7:06Living Food Arc. And then the only other last
- 7:08thing that I want to mention before we get into the topic
- 7:10today. Thanks for bearing with me all
- 7:11this, Patrick, is that I've launched a new merchandise
- 7:15store. I'm sick and tired of dealing
- 7:18with the jabronis that I've been dealing with in in my previous
- 7:22store. I'm about to shut that store
- 7:24down, but I've got to rebuild. So the link for that store is
- 7:28going to be posted somewhere in this video or in the podcast,
- 7:33show notes, whatever I believe it's going to be.
- 7:36Well, I don't even know my own merch store name right now.
- 7:38So anyway, just look for the link in the description or show
- 7:41notes because I don't want to miss direct people, but it's
- 7:45going to be down there somewhere.
- 7:46So there's not a whole lot there right now, but I will be adding
- 7:48more stuff this week and over time.
- 7:52There's a few different designs that are available on literally
- 7:58dozens of different items. You've got T-shirts, hoodies,
- 8:01tank tops, mugs, banners, pillows, bags, hats, all kinds
- 8:06of things. So just check out that that out
- 8:09if you want to support the show and get yourself some some
- 8:12merch. All right, I think that's
- 8:15everything. Is that everything Patrick did?
- 8:16I did I cover everything. Is there anything that you
- 8:17wanted to cover? Since you're Co hosting?
- 8:19Is there any directions that you'd like to point people in
- 8:22anything that you can check out? Well, because you're, you're,
- 8:26you're doing stuff here recently with music, right?
- 8:29You're, you're, you're getting a little musical yourself.
- 8:32That's right. Yeah, the covering videos or
- 8:35songs with Via My Drum and just today My Rattle.
- 8:42OK, nice. Yeah, today I decided to switch
- 8:45things up. But today being so special, you
- 8:48know I just want to follow my inspirations and intuition.
- 8:53OK, where are you? Where are you posting all that
- 8:56on? Is it just Facebook or you
- 8:58didn't know? Facebook and also TikTok too.
- 9:00Yes. Oh, OK, cool.
- 9:02Yeah, well, if people want to follow you and, and see what it
- 9:05is that you're doing and and also Patrick, you post a lot of
- 9:07cool footage and content while you're out on the trail.
- 9:13So if people are interested in that, they can, they can follow
- 9:15along and follow the follow along in your journey kind of
- 9:19thing, right? Absolutely, and anyone who's
- 9:21passionate about gardening, hiking and nature.
- 9:26I don't want to say I'm your guy, but I'm the great choice.
- 9:30Yeah, he's definitely. My experience is that I'm very
- 9:32easily apportionable. You know none but love and a
- 9:36safe space when you talk to me so.
- 9:38Thank you, man. Of course.
- 9:40Yeah, happy to put people, point people in your direction.
- 9:45So yeah, let's get into and I'll put links for for your socials
- 9:50and down in the video too or in the comments or the comments.
- 9:53But the show notes, that's the word I'm looking for, of course.
- 9:59So yeah, we, we were going to be talking about today.
- 10:02I don't know if you saw my, my post kind of earlier this
- 10:07afternoon announcing what it's like when the gods go quiet or
- 10:12when the gods go silent. And I thought that, you know,
- 10:17this is a really important thing for for us to talk about on, on
- 10:23a podcast. And I'm glad that you could be
- 10:24here to, you know, offer your own experiences or your thoughts
- 10:29on the thing because, you know, we're always talking about as as
- 10:33heathens, I guess, you know, like we're always talking about
- 10:35the, you know, when the gods show up and when the gods do
- 10:38this or when this happens and when that happens.
- 10:40And then but we should be talking about the opposite.
- 10:44What happens when the gods are silent, when they don't show up
- 10:50and they don't seem to be included or involved in what
- 10:54we're doing is we're not getting those signals, you know what I
- 10:56mean? Like we're not getting those
- 10:58affirmations or, or whatever. So have you, have you first
- 11:02before we get into that? Like is, is that something that
- 11:05you felt like the, that you've felt has happened for you?
- 11:09Like if you felt that feeling like the gods aren't listening
- 11:13to me or I'm not catching their attention or anything like that
- 11:16in your life. Absolutely, because we knew
- 11:19before we became friends on Facebook, we talked about this
- 11:22many times. That's one of our treasure
- 11:25conversations that we covered and talked about.
- 11:28It's like I told you, like during my heyday.
- 11:31And even now we're struggling with that very fact is what do I
- 11:35do, Jesse? Where do we go?
- 11:38Am I less than nothing? No, of course not.
- 11:42It's just part of the experience.
- 11:45And for those of you guys watching, this is my go to
- 11:48phrase lately because it really rains true to myself and I'm
- 11:52sure many of you as well. We have our investments, we have
- 11:57our journey. Sometimes it goes, doesn't go
- 12:00his way as we planned it, but it's all part of the journey.
- 12:05Good times, bad times, it's all necessary to be experiencing and
- 12:11the challenge. Yeah, those are lyrics to a lead
- 12:15sunshine. Gum drops.
- 12:16It's going to be ugly sometimes. We're always going to be in that
- 12:21place of like wondering where we stand and.
- 12:23That's beautiful. Well, I think one of the things
- 12:28to really kind of like before we get into more of the details of
- 12:32it all or understanding the lies of it is, is to really clarify
- 12:37for people that have felt this. I'm sure it's not an uncommon
- 12:41thing because if first of all, if you haven't experienced it
- 12:44yet, if you're a newer heathen or if you're a Pagan and, and
- 12:47you haven't experienced this, you know, sort of maybe for lack
- 12:51of a better term, like a feeling like you've been abandoned, you
- 12:54know, or that the gods have abandoned you or something like
- 12:56that. If you haven't felt it, you
- 12:59will. It'll happen it we've all gone
- 13:01through it. So to clarify that, you know,
- 13:05that quiet, that silence, it's not that we've done anything
- 13:08wrong. It's not a failure.
- 13:09It's not a punishment even, right?
- 13:12They're not observing what we're doing or not doing to the extent
- 13:18or to the degree that if they are involved, it's a reward.
- 13:21And if they're not, it's a punishment.
- 13:23That's not how this happens. It's not how this works.
- 13:26And it's clear because it's, it's, you know, historically how
- 13:32dramatic people and, and, and the Nordic peoples, you know,
- 13:35these Northern European cultures, that's kind of how
- 13:39they understood the, the, the behavior of things, right.
- 13:45So I want people to understand and realize and, you know, kind
- 13:48of be reminded that you're not being punished.
- 13:52It's not a failure if you feel like the gods are silent.
- 13:56And we're going to kind of go into why are you OK, man?
- 13:58Is that are you need a moment? You all right, you good love
- 14:02you. I.
- 14:03Love you too. I just really appreciate, I
- 14:08appreciate overcoming because it's not just me, it's you, it's
- 14:14all of us. This is very tricky to talk
- 14:17about, guys. Again, like Jesse mentioned, if
- 14:21you haven't experienced it yet, you will and that's OK.
- 14:24Don't get too lost in your head about this.
- 14:26We'll be covering this soon enough in our podcast.
- 14:29But thank you for observing and seeing my reaction.
- 14:33But guys, this is very special, so go ahead.
- 14:37Sorry for that. No, no, don't.
- 14:38You don't have to apologize, just, you know, just want to
- 14:40make sure that you're OK and if you needed anything while we're
- 14:44going into it. Fantastic for asking.
- 14:46Yeah, yeah. Man, of course, you know, I know
- 14:50you do the same for me. So got to got to look out for
- 14:53each other. But yeah, when we look at
- 14:55sources, which is as much of an important thing as maybe not as
- 15:00it, there's, there's an importance to knowing your
- 15:02sources and referencing sources and, and understanding the the
- 15:05importance of the source without getting lost in the sauce of the
- 15:09source, if that makes sense. Don't get lost, don't get lost
- 15:12in the source. That's stupid, but.
- 15:20Please. But the but like, OK, so
- 15:23throughout the sources, right throughout lore, throughout
- 15:26myth, we we see that the gods are not constantly accessible.
- 15:31They are first of all, you know, they're unpredictable.
- 15:35There there there's certain things that maybe pattern wise
- 15:40they they may be known for or have characteristics of.
- 15:42But in terms of accessibility, I've even talked about this in
- 15:46in previous shows, you know, referring to the gods as being
- 15:51of limited access. Why we're bloats to the gods
- 15:58observed and held at certain times of the year versus any
- 16:01other time? Why were those moments of time
- 16:04documented or retained and documented sources?
- 16:07Above anything else, I think it's an important distinction to
- 16:10realize that the people believed that their access to the holy or
- 16:15their access to the divine was confined and limited to space
- 16:20and time that they were familiar with.
- 16:23It's why they went to sacred Groves.
- 16:25It's why they had vase or hergers or designated locations
- 16:29to engage with the holy. And then it's also why when they
- 16:35did it at certain times of the year, why you'll was when you'll
- 16:40was why cigar bloater, the victory bloat was when it was
- 16:43winter nights, etcetera. You know, 'cause they, the gods
- 16:47were distant at times. They were not always responsive
- 16:51to things, but when they were or when you had the most, I guess
- 16:55the highest possibility of getting their attention.
- 16:59It's almost like, you know, if you think about like a, you
- 17:02know, you're, you're, you're in a location and you don't have
- 17:06any means of long distance communication except yelling or
- 17:11shouting. And if somebody is outside of
- 17:14your range of for your voice to carry, you might, could see
- 17:18them, you might, could wave them.
- 17:19They, they may not see you, they can't hear you, but they're,
- 17:21they're kind of close, but not close enough, right?
- 17:25But then the wind changes or they move a little bit closer
- 17:27and then all of a sudden now you can connect and you can.
- 17:30So it's kind of like that, you know, it's like almost like if,
- 17:34almost like if you, you know, you hit a dead zone and your,
- 17:36your, your cell phone doesn't work anymore.
- 17:38You know, like, yeah, you've still got this tool, but it
- 17:40doesn't work 'cause you're not in the right zone, you're not in
- 17:43the right place for it to work, You know what I mean?
- 17:47Love the way you explain that. I really do.
- 17:50You have a way of words and I'm sure all of us as yours and
- 17:54supporters really praise you in your way of words and sharing
- 17:59things. So yeah, you couldn't be more on
- 18:02the news with that kind of thing.
- 18:05Thank you. And it's no coincidence that
- 18:07during these times, especially towns of hardship like Yule with
- 18:13winter, it's cold, things are harsh, can't go outside much.
- 18:19And that's the building. Me specifically, you know, I
- 18:23struggle very deeply with being stuck into my house 'cause I'm a
- 18:27nature spirit. I always will be, you know, But
- 18:31oftentimes, like, you know, with our gods and our ancestors, you
- 18:35know, sometimes go on a hike and sometimes it doesn't hit the
- 18:39same way. Is that because these places
- 18:42forsaken me? Absolutely not.
- 18:47Just like our gods, the land spirits just false or friends
- 18:51and family live their own lives, their own endeavors, their own
- 18:55encounters and experiences. Yeah, it's easy to take a
- 18:58personal what do I know it because I have a tendency to do
- 19:02so. But again, just being
- 19:03transparent with ourselves and your viewers and our viewers,
- 19:07like that's OK. But it's important to be set
- 19:11fast and rooted and grounded and our intentions and our journey
- 19:21that we set before us a long time ago or more recent.
- 19:25To those of you who are new to the practice, that's OK.
- 19:28So again, Jesse, go ahead. Yeah, now I'm listening and I'm
- 19:33I'm hearing you. You talked about, right, the the
- 19:37relationship of, you know, with the gods, and then you
- 19:40mentioned, you know, spirits of the land and, and ancestors, and
- 19:45these are all living and active presences and components to
- 19:52heathens especially, but but not just heathens, you know, other
- 19:57pagans I'm sure have that, you know.
- 20:01Relationship between themselves and the gods and then whatever
- 20:04else right that's the spirits their ancestors, but especially
- 20:06with human that's like a big thing and the difference with
- 20:10the gods and and say like local spirits of land and ancestors
- 20:16you know they're we're accessible to our ancestors
- 20:18first of all anytime because they are a part of us.
- 20:22You know what I mean? They're not.
- 20:26At least I don't believe anyway. You know they are not.
- 20:30They are not just hanging around in hell, hanging, or wherever.
- 20:35In that regards to. The guys yeah exactly the gods
- 20:38are on a different level more you know what I mean?
- 20:40It's it's I don't know why Patreon says that the live has
- 20:44been cancelled. I didn't cancel it anyway.
- 20:45We're still recording. But anyway, we're just going to
- 20:48keep rocking with it. I'm not worried about it.
- 20:50So sorry in advance to the Chieftain tier folks that maybe
- 20:55see that the live was cancelled. Don't know why we're still since
- 20:59we're still and that kind. Of coincides with what we're
- 21:03talking about too though, if you will.
- 21:06We have a message and sometimes we are disconnected, but
- 21:09anyways, yeah. Oh yeah, Well, that and just
- 21:12technology can be a real fickle bit.
- 21:15If you want me. I mean, I'm literally, I'm, I'm
- 21:20using what we're using right now, the same as always done in
- 21:22that one week when I recorded was it 222 episodes ago where
- 21:27I'm talking for an hour literally to myself.
- 21:30I'm not even talking to anybody later on because there's no
- 21:33audio that's coming through. And I was just like, are you
- 21:35fucking kidding me right now? So anyway, to get back to that
- 21:39whole thing, Yeah, with the gods, obviously they did.
- 21:42They had a sense of the people, had a sense of their
- 21:45relationship with them as being very relational to certain and
- 21:50specific times and places. But we even see it throughout
- 21:57through some like poetic sources.
- 21:59I mean, even in the Hava Mall, you know, and and just, I know
- 22:03this has been repeated probably more times than by more than
- 22:07just myself. But you know, the one thing
- 22:09about the Hava Mall, right? All the heathens want to,
- 22:11especially the new heathens, right?
- 22:12Like to use the Hava Mall as some sort of text of divine
- 22:17reassurance, right. A Bible.
- 22:19Yeah, like a like a heathen Bible.
- 22:21Pardon the phrase, but yeah, that's the best example we can
- 22:24give. But yeah, yeah.
- 22:26I mean, it ain't that. Never has been.
- 22:28It's it's texts that are part of our primary sources, and they
- 22:32are practical bits of wisdom for navigating all sorts of things
- 22:37in your life. And some certainty could be
- 22:38included as well. And that's history, though.
- 22:41It's written by the victor. Yeah.
- 22:44I mean, some things are skewed by actual facts, but yeah, go
- 22:48ahead. Sorry.
- 22:49Yeah. No, no, I think that's valid.
- 22:50I mean, how history is written and how it's documented is going
- 22:54to quite often be biased. And be obscured too.
- 22:58It's. Going to be what?
- 23:00Obscured. Obscured.
- 23:02Yeah, there's there's. Always the truth.
- 23:03Facts. Sometimes we never know the true
- 23:06facts, but we have to base it on practice and intuition and the
- 23:10whole journey. But yeah.
- 23:12Yeah, we like to. We like to we like to have some,
- 23:15but like assurances when we think of his like historical
- 23:20texts that they are they they are the only thing that we have
- 23:25that gives us a glimpse into the past.
- 23:28And we like to think that that glimpse into the past is as
- 23:32accurate as possible as to how things were.
- 23:35We also have to face reality that we don't know we weren't
- 23:38there. So what, what we read, you know,
- 23:42even in, even in some of our sources, we see things that can,
- 23:47for scholars especially that really analyze these, these
- 23:50materials, they're contradictory at times.
- 23:54Or, or they, they, they, they, they face a paradox, you know,
- 23:57with, you know, especially when it comes to like when holy tides
- 24:01were held. But no, but like with, with
- 24:04regards to silence, you know, and the, the presence of silence
- 24:08when things are quiet, when things are silent, there's a
- 24:12stanza. There's several stanzas
- 24:14throughout the whole of them all that kind of, I guess if you
- 24:16will applaud or yeah, they applaud.
- 24:22It applauds silence. There's a stanza.
- 24:24It's a stanza 15. And I don't know which
- 24:28translation this is, but it goes silent and thoughtful.
- 24:31A King's son should be and bold in battle.
- 24:35A man should be glad and happy. I believe it's the next stanza.
- 24:40Thereafter it says that the knowing guest who goes to the
- 24:45feast in silent attention sits. With his ears he hears, with his
- 24:51eyes he watches. Thus weary are wise men all.
- 24:57And there's other places around throughout the hall.
- 25:00Of them all, I know there's one particular that talks about
- 25:02like, you know, the more a fool speaks, the stupider he gets
- 25:07kind of thing. It's it's like it that's not the
- 25:09actual quote, obviously, but it's it's admonishing people
- 25:13that like to run their mouth and and loose jaws and loose lips,
- 25:17right, Shut up, shut up. Like stop talking all the time.
- 25:23So like 1 interpretation, you know, you could go away from is
- 25:28like even look at Odin, who who gets probably the most attention
- 25:33of the all the gods. By and large I would say, you
- 25:38know, if on average Odin gets a pretty high-ranking attention,
- 25:44he's got most written about him, a big audience.
- 25:46Huge. Audience yeah, yeah.
- 25:48Or, you know, the most attention, you know, I mean, he,
- 25:50he gets positioned as the chief of the gods.
- 25:53He has all these, you know, stories written about him and
- 25:55his things, but even he teaches or or has, you know, emphasis on
- 26:04restraint and patience and observation, not constant
- 26:07dialogue. All right.
- 26:12He was hanging on a tree for 9 days and nights without
- 26:17anybody's help. He couldn't consult with
- 26:21anybody. He couldn't counsel anybody.
- 26:23He had to hang there and endure that agony of beings pierced by
- 26:27his own spear without food and drink for 9 days and nights.
- 26:33He couldn't talk to anybody. He couldn't.
- 26:34He had to be. He was there in solitude and in
- 26:38silence and then finally he screams and then gains the
- 26:42knowledge of the runes. But point being is that there
- 26:45was that period of silence that happened before it was
- 26:50necessary. It was part of, you know, it was
- 26:55part of his ordeal. There was nothing there to
- 26:58reassure him, no guidance. You know, it can't that that
- 27:01wisdom, that that knowledge, everything that he received, the
- 27:04knowledge of the mysteries came to him through endurance during
- 27:08silence. And that compliments our podcast
- 27:13so beautifully. And very happy that you mention
- 27:16that. Cause like Odin, we also had
- 27:20that disconnection. Those times would feel lost.
- 27:24We all hate for old trees or for those other practices.
- 27:29We all, we all have our own cross the bear.
- 27:33But it's an individual experience.
- 27:36Yeah. What makes special and sacred is
- 27:38what we make special and sacred. Not the world at large, not but
- 27:42it accompanies our family and friends and loved ones and the
- 27:45the greater world at large. That's just all the more better
- 27:49than special. Yeah, you know what I was just
- 27:53thinking of too. And this is like to to throw in
- 27:56just a bit of humor. Like, Can you imagine if, you
- 28:02know, people were around, right? And they knew who Odin was and
- 28:08that was that, you know, a chief for principal deity for them.
- 28:10And you know, he's hanging on Igor Seal.
- 28:14I know this is again, this is this is this is absolutely
- 28:16satirical or, you know, this is just for humor, right?
- 28:20Imagine I'll put myself into the mix right here I am 1500 years
- 28:25ago. Whatever. 2000 years ago.
- 28:27And I'm sitting there by the fire and I'm owed in.
- 28:29Listen to me. Why aren't you answering me?
- 28:31And the poor bastards hanging on a tree?
- 28:33Like what? Can't you see I'm busy?
- 28:35Like I'm kind of tied up here at the moment.
- 28:37I can't talk to you right now. Please leave a message.
- 28:41Yeah, like you're. A call to board to us.
- 28:43Just wait. Your your average wait time is 9
- 28:47days and nights. Would you like to stay in the
- 28:49queue or ask for a call back? You know, like.
- 28:54Oh boy. But, you know, it's so like
- 28:56thinking of it in that way too obviously, because the gods have
- 28:59their own agency and they are, they are acting and they are
- 29:01doing things of their own volition.
- 29:03And you know, of course they're not going to just be at
- 29:08everyone's whim at any point in time.
- 29:10They couldn't possibly they, they are limited.
- 29:13You know, they are not omnipotent and they are not
- 29:15omniscient. There is enough in the source
- 29:17materials that support that, that that's how the, you know,
- 29:22the culture understood how the gods behaved.
- 29:24They weren't all knowing, all powerful, all present, you know,
- 29:30and Odin's not the only one. Do you can you think of, I know
- 29:34you're not like really big into the to the Norse path much now,
- 29:37but have you ever come across any other gods that you can
- 29:42think of or goddesses for that matter, who are maybe one of the
- 29:47qualities that they are known for or by is their silence?
- 29:52Not to contrary to you, but Thor.
- 29:56Thor yeah, I would think the exact opposite.
- 30:00But I'm I'm eager to hear what makes you think him as as being
- 30:02sort of a silent figure. Like what makes you.
- 30:07Where do you come up with that? He gets the support.
- 30:11Again, just my words, not anyone else's, but yeah.
- 30:14No, yeah, no judgement. I'm just curious.
- 30:16We. Weather the storm every day.
- 30:18We weather the storm every day by just being alive now.
- 30:22Every day to wake up to see a lightning strike.
- 30:27Do I get support that I want to from him?
- 30:31No. But that endurance, that
- 30:34perseverance, that strength that He embodies and gifts to us,
- 30:39those bucks on the guard lives every day just as ourselves.
- 30:47You know, sometimes again, we get this great signs, like
- 30:50today, for example, me among my storms, hence why I'm wearing
- 30:54this shirt today, Tor I honor his spirit, I honor his
- 31:01presence. Thank you, appreciate that.
- 31:03But that's my example of other than that though, other deities,
- 31:07I just lean towards the Norse path now.
- 31:10And basically that's where it gets kind of off topic.
- 31:14So I'll refrain from mentioning that.
- 31:15But yeah, I'd love to hear what you say about that though, and
- 31:20your thoughts. Yeah, well, I mean, Thor is the
- 31:25last one that I would personally associate silence with because
- 31:30he is the Thunderer and Thunder is loud.
- 31:34Thunder is, you know it. It shakes, It roars.
- 31:40His his his goats are teeth gnasher and teeth biter.
- 31:44You know like these are noisy things you know of.
- 31:47Course they are. But did they occur every?
- 31:49Day. Sorry to interject here, but it
- 31:51doesn't occur every day and that grand scheme of things.
- 31:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 31:55I mean, of course, like, you know, just as the gods are not
- 31:58all powerful, all knowing, all present, these qualities that we
- 32:02often associate with the gods kind of limits them to their
- 32:06their entirety. They are, they are like, it
- 32:08would be like it would be like if you just knew me because I
- 32:11have long blonde hair and that's all you associated me with, like
- 32:15a quality or tattoos. You know what I'm saying?
- 32:18Right, right. By physical appearances, yeah,
- 32:19it's just, it's just a portion. Yeah, it's, it's surface level.
- 32:23It's just a portion. Now when I think of Silence
- 32:27Amongst the Gods, one of the first figures that I think of is
- 32:31Frig. She knows so much.
- 32:39She knows even more than Odin knows.
- 32:42And she doesn't speak, she doesn't reveal her secrets.
- 32:45She keeps that, she keeps that. And there's a song that I wrote
- 32:49that is dedicated to Frig called The Silver Silence, which is
- 32:53coming on till the final twilight dies, which is dropping
- 32:56May 1st. So shameless plug there, but
- 33:00she's one of the 1st that I think of among the Gods as
- 33:02embodying qualities that silence is not just necessary and
- 33:08appropriate, but even sacred. You're right, Vidar is is
- 33:16another one. I don't know if you're familiar
- 33:18with Vidar, I don't have to. Mention that.
- 33:19Yeah, just Vidar, Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:22What is what? What?
- 33:23Why is he? Why is.
- 33:24Yeah. So you know about his tale,
- 33:26right? What he's responsible for and
- 33:29his he's he's, he's his name is. I don't know, I don't know if it
- 33:33directly translated, but he is referred to as the Silent One or
- 33:37the Silent God because he doesn't do anything about
- 33:40anything until Ragnarok comes in any rips Fenrir's jaws open to
- 33:44avenge Odin, his father. So you know, if if any of the
- 33:50gods have an essence of stillness and endurance and also
- 33:55inevitability, you know he survives Ragnarok.
- 34:00He acts only when it's necessary he doesn't talk about it he's
- 34:05not like oh man I can't believe fenry or man eating my dad.
- 34:10You guys let me post about it on fate oh man can you guys
- 34:14believe? Wait till I get my hand.
- 34:17You know he's. Surfing is funny, he.
- 34:21Ain't tweeting about it. He's not.
- 34:23He's not chirping about it. He's just.
- 34:25#Victories, you know, hashtag legends, you know, like this is.
- 34:31Hashtag eat this friend. Rear like.
- 34:35Fender over here hashtag next time let's go but also that's
- 34:43it. I hope you don't mind me, but
- 34:45yeah, I was gonna say that my show my ignorance to Norse
- 34:49paganism, but it's just my opinion, you know.
- 34:53But that seen the guys were silent and I'm glad you
- 34:57mentioned that too, cause your is one of my favorites.
- 35:00It's just was ear ear not much mentioned of her, but she's
- 35:10can't find the right word. But like Freya and her arena, if
- 35:14you will. Yeah, yeah, she's one of well,
- 35:17she's one of the she's she's, I think she gets referred to in
- 35:21guilt beginning. Yeah, she's like a handmaiden,
- 35:22but she's a a physician of gods, right?
- 35:25She's a healer. Exactly.
- 35:26Right, right, she gets. She gets mentioned in the sort
- 35:28and I think it's the Prose Edda during in the guilt beginning.
- 35:30I think she gets mentioned as one of her handmaidens, as a
- 35:34healer, maybe even a Valkyrie or something like that.
- 35:38Like there's, there's, there's. I think it's guilt beginning
- 35:40but. And does she ever talk though?
- 35:42From I can remember from my studies, no.
- 35:46I can't say yeah, I don't think so because a lot of those
- 35:49figures, they get mentioned, but they don't have any sort of
- 35:53prominent role. Chapter Yeah.
- 35:55Yeah, they're just like tabulated in the annals of their
- 36:01their history or whatever. Like yeah, they shared show.
- 36:03Like, you know, Tear, Odin, Thor, Freya, Freya, you know,
- 36:10Balder. Yeah, Tell.
- 36:14Me look at that one too folder we.
- 36:16Do a pause for the cause, just for a couple minutes, yeah.
- 36:19Do your thing because we're we're streaming live.
- 36:22There's no way for me to pause it.
- 36:23But go ahead, take a, take a, you know, take a break.
- 36:26That's fine. Yeah.
- 36:27I'll be right back, guys. I'll just.
- 36:28Filibuster. Yeah.
- 36:30Thank you very. Much won't be long.
- 36:33That's that's what Co hosts do, man.
- 36:36Got a feeling you're audible? Goodness gracious, because.
- 36:39Thank you guys. I'll be right back.
- 36:41Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I don't know what the heck
- 36:46was going on with the Patreon thing because it keeps saying
- 36:49that the live has been cancelled.
- 36:51Not by me, it ain't. So I don't know.
- 36:55I don't know what's up with that.
- 36:58And that feels, oh, there's a chat.
- 37:01I have a chat from Patreon. Let me read this chat real quick
- 37:04while we're waiting for for Mr. Walsh to get back here.
- 37:07Thank you all for the for the patience and the support.
- 37:10Again, I know this isn't going live supposedly anymore but I
- 37:14don't know why but tis what it is.
- 37:21I'll say here I got direct message do I?
- 37:27Oh yeah yeah about 7 minutes ago.
- 37:32Cool. I was talking to another guy,
- 37:36fellow supporter here and also now a fellow podcaster.
- 37:43He has a a podcast, I'll just go ahead and plug it right now.
- 37:46It's called the Heretical Heathen, the Heretical Heathenry
- 37:50podcast, I think it's called. And the the host's name is
- 37:56Robert. He's been a follower of Midgard
- 37:58Musings and my podcast here for many years.
- 38:01So we're talking to him through Patreon chats and trying to get
- 38:07him to come on the show and then maybe me get on his show.
- 38:10So looks like that's going to be a thing and we just have to
- 38:17schedule it. And I'm looking forward to that
- 38:19because always love to get differing sides of things, new
- 38:24or existing creators that want to collaborate.
- 38:27That's a huge, you know, I, I get a lot of enjoyment out of
- 38:30that. What's up, man?
- 38:33Everything turn out OK. Yeah, it's just fine.
- 38:36Scott, a call from, but yeah, yeah.
- 38:39Yeah, yeah, yeah. Had to go bring the main rain as
- 38:42I said that. Over here you have adorable.
- 38:49I'm sending frogs and mosquitoes here.
- 38:51Yay. Is that your dad, Joe?
- 38:53Right. That's right.
- 38:55Yep, Joe. 1000 I'll just say, hey, Joe, Jim.
- 38:58Sorry, Jim, you're Jim. Now Jim is Joe, now you're Joe
- 39:01now. We're just going to run with it.
- 39:04Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe.
- 39:07Where you going? What was that, Jimmy, right?
- 39:12Yeah. Hey, Joe, where you going do
- 39:15that? Don't go hand but now.
- 39:17I like, I like you like the Type O Negative cover of that.
- 39:22Oh, absolutely. Where?
- 39:25You going with that in your hands?
- 39:29Don't get started with tapping *** dude.
- 39:31They're badass. Simply badass.
- 39:33But again, thank you, listeners and viewers for watching and
- 39:37being patient. Like Josh mentioned, you know,
- 39:39it's just all part of the experience.
- 39:41So let's get back to the potatoes.
- 39:44Yeah, these meat and potatoes are getting eaten up, man.
- 39:48We're we're, we're having a hell of a good time with this, Yes.
- 39:50We are so I think. It's I think it's a great, you
- 39:53know, so yeah, VR, there's another one that doesn't get
- 40:00thought of that much. I was looking into this topic to
- 40:03try to. You know, get some some good
- 40:05talking points about this. Yeah, I think of Frigg.
- 40:07I think of, you know, Vidar Hooner is another God that is
- 40:15actually influential in the creation of mankind.
- 40:19And he is often described as being sort of quiet, but in the
- 40:28hesitant and dependent on counsel sort of way.
- 40:31I don't know, I don't exactly remember where he's mentioned
- 40:36briefly, but it's it's something along the lines along like he's
- 40:39reliant on Mimir to give answers about things.
- 40:44And then when Mimir can't give an answer, who near is just over
- 40:48here, like, well, I just he's like Robert F Kennedy.
- 40:51It's it's he just has these like Abilene that doesn't make a
- 40:57bunch of sense and he can't really answer or speak for
- 40:59himself. So he represents not stupidity,
- 41:03but it he he's more like, I want to make sure that I give the
- 41:06right answer instead of just giving an answer.
- 41:08So it kind of to me, if you will, What was that?
- 41:13Mindfulness, if you will. Mindfulness.
- 41:15Yeah, yeah. Pause before decision.
- 41:17You know Temperance thinking about it before you speak.
- 41:20Thinking ahead, taking 2 steps instead of one step in advance.
- 41:25Like really like many of us. With that said, and I've we.
- 41:29Share. Yeah, go ahead.
- 41:32We share. Like.
- 41:34Us as content creators, we bear in mind a lot of times,
- 41:37sometimes we scratch something what we shared, said or shared
- 41:41redacted and come back with them because we knew at the point
- 41:45when we shared, it wasn't the time.
- 41:47Much like you know him. Yeah, I was just trying to find
- 41:55the Yeah, so this is what I was thinking and I'm exactly
- 42:00correct. So who near is one of like along
- 42:05with Odin and Loder and some of the sources.
- 42:10It's Odin Villianve and then you got the other which is Odin
- 42:15Hooner and Loder who are are walking along the beach and they
- 42:21discover ask and Embla ash and Elm and they take those two
- 42:25pieces of wood and they create mankind.
- 42:28So Odin gives them breath, Hooner gives them odor, which is
- 42:39like intellectual insight, poetic inspiration, that spirit,
- 42:47right? So Odin gives them breath, he
- 42:49gives them intellect, inspiration.
- 42:52And then Loder gives them goodly appearance and makes them look
- 42:54all right. And so it's interesting that you
- 42:58know what whom there is associated with as being, you
- 43:03know, inspiration, intellect, right thinking things a bit more
- 43:07through that. He is described as being a sort
- 43:11of quiet or hesitant, mindful if you will.
- 43:15Am I still online? I I.
- 43:17I just brought you back on. I don't know what happened.
- 43:19I got. I got disconnected, my phone was
- 43:22overheating so I have to disconnect it from my charger
- 43:24here, so yeah. Your new phone is overheating,
- 43:28Patrick. I got.
- 43:30Don't get me started. Don't don't start you and your.
- 43:33An iPhone man, I can't. Yeah, I know, I know.
- 43:39But here we are just. Bust I'm just giving you agita.
- 43:41I'm just giving you agita. We talked.
- 43:43About this. Guy, this guy, the biggest, the
- 43:49biggest Sopranos fan that I even know could probably quote all
- 43:53how many seasons of The Sopranos are there?
- 43:5798 Do you know? 8 Because this the last season's
- 44:04broken up into two parts. OK, well anyway, there's a lot
- 44:08and not one time did any one of them say ajita.
- 44:15They never once said that. They might have, I haven't
- 44:17rewatched the series in a long time at least, but I.
- 44:20Said it to you and you're like, what's that?
- 44:22I'm like, I can't believe you, man.
- 44:23You like this Italian American sitcom, Not sitcom, you know,
- 44:26with me. Like, hey, come on.
- 44:29Hey, yo, hey. I could still spit on clothes
- 44:33like no one else, you know? It's like speckles to my balls.
- 44:39Try it with the mustard or try it with the ketchup.
- 44:42Try. The ketchup packets mix it with
- 44:46the relish it's. The fucking Pine Barrens all
- 44:49over again. Ah man, good time, he suckle.
- 44:53Punch me, toad. Fine bears, let's go.
- 44:59The best I you know, it was one of the best.
- 45:02Episode. I doubt, yeah.
- 45:03Yeah, yeah. Sopranos goes.
- 45:07Let's go. No, yeah.
- 45:10If you made it this far, if you made it this far in the episode
- 45:12and you can comment, comment below.
- 45:15What your what your favorite Soprano.
- 45:17If you're a Sopranos fan, you made it this far in the episode.
- 45:20Comment what your favorite line from The Sopranos is.
- 45:25Just what's yours? What's yours take time.
- 45:32I, you know, I don't have the, I don't have the the back.
- 45:35I don't have the same degree of memory like about it, 'cause I
- 45:39didn't watch The Sopranos like you did.
- 45:41I've seen some of it. I haven't watched all of it.
- 45:43So I can't say like I like Paulie just because of his, just
- 45:48because of our talent, the satanic shit like.
- 45:53Black magic Magic, you know. Fucking queasy throws a chair.
- 46:04Oh boy. That's not what we're talking
- 46:07about today, guys. We're this episode, but it's
- 46:09cool. We we we like to have fun.
- 46:12That's what it's about, right? But no, man, the I guess what if
- 46:18I guess what it kind of boils down to is, is realizing, right,
- 46:21like not all, not all divine presence.
- 46:25We like to think of it as like expressive and striking a nerve
- 46:30and hitting a nail on the head and just being, you know, horns
- 46:33from the heavens. Whoa, right.
- 46:35And it's not, it's not always expressive.
- 46:37Sometimes some of it is just kind of hanging out.
- 46:40It's suspended. It's it's waiting for that, that
- 46:44deep breath before the plunge kind of thing.
- 46:46You know, it's, it's, it's quiet, it's still.
- 46:52And we experienced that through our interactions with the
- 46:56divine. We have to, we have to come to a
- 46:58realization of that. I think we have to welcome that
- 47:02and be OK with it, right? Absolutely, and I want to give
- 47:06up a moment here to go back to my day today with my hike being
- 47:13relevant. Of course, today viewers and my
- 47:18friends were watching. Did I expect to have the day
- 47:22that it's today? No.
- 47:24I expected nothing. I came as I as I am.
- 47:29I came as I am. I arrived my destination and
- 47:35must tooth the dismay of weather forecasting.
- 47:38I thought I had a window of maybe an hour to go hiking and
- 47:42have fun, right? Well, I got there.
- 47:47I'm the only person there. Hell yeah.
- 47:50But then came a point on my hike again, a place where I see the
- 47:56deer so much. And at that point, I was in the
- 48:03deer. Dan, if you will, my guys, the
- 48:06place I see the deer more than any other place at this park.
- 48:11Gotcha. And I got there and the storm
- 48:17was coming fast. The lightning is striking hard
- 48:22and loud. And my gut was churning.
- 48:24Gosh, it was churning. I'm like, something's wrong.
- 48:29I'm very happy I listened to my gut to go back home and get back
- 48:35safely. Now, this is special and amazing
- 48:39because I got home safely. Now one of the options that
- 48:43could have happened, I might have got struck my lightning.
- 48:46Just so you know, you saw my pictures.
- 48:49Dude, that one lightning bolt came down pretty much in your
- 48:51lap. Literally in.
- 48:53My lap. Like you, the fact that you
- 48:56caught that on camera, I'm like, you need to send that into like
- 48:59the the local like news station or something like check this
- 49:03out. I won't.
- 49:03Time I won't type it just like I want to keep it special and
- 49:06sacred now. But you don't.
- 49:07Have to. I'm just saying like they would,
- 49:09I will. Eventually, maybe, but you know,
- 49:11just again, ties in with divine experiences with our gods, our
- 49:18land spirits, our ancestors. Guys, we can't make that happen
- 49:25unorganically. It happens on its own accord at
- 49:30the best time to approach it, which is tricky because if we
- 49:34try so hard to think, all right, I'm gonna make something
- 49:37special, I have no expectations. I'm not going to expect
- 49:39anything. You have expectations just doing
- 49:42that. You have expectations, just
- 49:45preparing yourself. Quiet the mind, be still, live
- 49:50your life. The special ties will come to
- 49:53you when they come to you. They'll come to us when they
- 49:56come to us. Can't force that, as much would
- 50:00like to. And sometimes it does work out.
- 50:03I'll tell you what, there have been rare occasions where I want
- 50:05to connect with sacred, the gods, my ancestors.
- 50:09It works out great. But more often than not, again,
- 50:13it comes like ourselves, on our own accord and practice.
- 50:21Yeah, and you know, there's that and then there's also
- 50:24understanding the formula. You know, some some people don't
- 50:29like to lean too heavily into historical sides of things.
- 50:36There's a reality that we have to face with, especially with
- 50:39heathen. A lot of reconstruction is yet
- 50:45get kind of the they get a tongue lashing from a lot of the
- 50:49modern neo Pagan movements and stuff like that, you know, and I
- 50:54want to just caution the audience about leaning one way
- 50:58or the other too heavily yet. There has to be a balance,
- 51:01right. But in that balance, evenry as
- 51:07it is today, it is a reconstructed religion.
- 51:12We know not as much as we would like to know.
- 51:16We're reconstructing it. It has been reconstructed
- 51:20before. We're doing it now.
- 51:21We're still finding pieces of things and learning things even
- 51:24now. And, you know, we're talking
- 51:26about a folkway in the tradition that exists in an indigenous
- 51:29culture in Europe that dates, you know, thousands and
- 51:32thousands of years. We're in North America, we're in
- 51:34the United States. This is not native to this land.
- 51:38So we're practicing, we're believing, we're doing things in
- 51:41landscape that it is foreign to. So understanding the dynamics of
- 51:48the gods in a way that reflects our ancient ancestors is a
- 51:51challenge in itself. So as we go through these
- 51:55things, as we navigate through things, please understand,
- 51:57right, that the historical side reconstruction is as well
- 52:01intended as they are and as well informed as they are.
- 52:04Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't get too aggressive with
- 52:09it. It's.
- 52:11A lot of it's hung up on. It or hung up on it, right,
- 52:13because a lot of a lot of things that we're that we're
- 52:15experiencing are happening to us in real time.
- 52:17We're not basing what we're doing on historical sources.
- 52:21We're looking at those historical sources and maybe
- 52:23comparing or, or drawing conclusions that are as closely
- 52:28based upon historical sources as we can.
- 52:30OK, what would my ancient ancestors have done in a
- 52:33situation like this? Like for you example, right,
- 52:35you're out here in the freaking wilderness.
- 52:39Granted, it's a, it's a public trail system, but you're still
- 52:44in the wilderness and then a storm pops up and you're having
- 52:48to endure it, weather it and stay alive and stay safe.
- 52:53Imagine what that would have been like for your ancestors a
- 52:58hundred, 200,000 years ago that lived out in the hearth.
- 53:02They lived out in the field. Those storms popped up.
- 53:05That was their life. That was a part of their life.
- 53:07It was an unpleasant part. It was an inconvenient part, but
- 53:10it was a part. Necessary, very necessary too.
- 53:14Again, that that kind of coincides with the holy ties,
- 53:17especially this time around with, you know, the spring
- 53:21equinox to prepare our next harvest planting.
- 53:27I gotta be careful here 'cause they'll be very easily to go off
- 53:29track here. But like this is one of many
- 53:32holy ties, one of many holy ties, a moment of weakness for,
- 53:37well, like me gardening my journey.
- 53:42I know we're at the gate. Some plants, plans or hopes may
- 53:48pass. That's OK.
- 53:52But it stands the reason why we convene and inspire ourselves
- 53:57and inspire to connect with the sacred, to get help, guidance
- 54:04and support, and a moment of need and a time of need.
- 54:09For sure. And you know, so much of the way
- 54:14that the sacred was, you know, the gods, the divine, the holy,
- 54:19whatever name you will put to that, so much of how it was
- 54:26defined or or exemplified, if you will, was through nature,
- 54:31that you know, they were living in nature, nature.
- 54:33They were in a relationship with nature and their divinity, their
- 54:38source, their holy powers came through nature.
- 54:45Nature aspects. We know the Thunder was Thor and
- 54:47and good crops was blessings from prayer and victories in
- 54:51battle was, you know, from Odin and and this and that, right?
- 54:54So there were associations to their life through nature that
- 54:59they deified or that became deified through their natural
- 55:05relationships of the land, with the land being custodians, being
- 55:11caretakers, knowing that they were relative, right, seen and
- 55:17unseen. And that goes to to the point
- 55:21too, right, With silence. You know, they did not see the
- 55:27gods as service providers. You know, I think one of the
- 55:33biggest modern misunderstandings that Heathenry and even paganism
- 55:36gets nowadays is people are expecting the gods to behave
- 55:40like something is like that, like they're just a service that
- 55:43you can tap into on demand. Like a nurse or doctor, we can't
- 55:48do that. Like you can just call them up
- 55:50and they'll answer and fix your problems or, or give you a
- 55:53solution to. No, it ain't not with the gods.
- 55:57It ain't like that. You know, if you want a problem,
- 55:58if you want, if if you got a problem, yo, your ancestors will
- 56:02solve it. Vanilla Ice, right?
- 56:06Yo problem. I'll solve it.
- 56:08Kick it back. Do pay.
- 56:09Revolve it. Da da, da, da.
- 56:10I forget the lyrics. Yeah.
- 56:11I hear you though. I hear you, but.
- 56:14But yeah, because that's not how it's like.
- 56:16You go back to historical, right, the sources.
- 56:19This is not how the people understood things to be.
- 56:23The gods were seen as powerful. They knew that they were
- 56:27powerful, and they were unpredictable in their power.
- 56:30Their forces were unpredictable. They weren't consistently
- 56:33commutative beings. They weren't just at your
- 56:39disposal to leverage for things that you needed or wanted.
- 56:44And they aren't. They weren't and they aren't.
- 56:48I think that's, I think that's an important thing for a lot of
- 56:50people to come to an awareness too, because if they weren't
- 56:57then, why would they be now? And I hear some history for
- 57:04those, some of you like me who grew up Catholic or Christian,
- 57:10we have that mindset drilled into us that God was always
- 57:14there for us every step of the way.
- 57:16We had that, if we will. Again, I don't want to offend
- 57:20anyone saying this, but codependency and being on the
- 57:26hidden path switches it up at this point.
- 57:32We have opportunities and these moments of silence to really
- 57:35like, I can't reach the gods. Jesse can't reach sometimes even
- 57:40my ancestors. Well, that's where we had to do
- 57:44the damn work and go into. Figure it out ourselves.
- 57:51Calibrate recourse correct? We're right.
- 57:53We're the best course of magic, of healing and great things and
- 57:58horrible things too. Don't allow me to say all the
- 58:01great things 'cause we're capable of great things and
- 58:04horrible things. It's all within us and outside
- 58:08of us. Yeah, we are powerful beings
- 58:12from anyway, because I was talking to earlier today about
- 58:17this with with my wife, We, we are spiritual beings and that's
- 58:24Patrick pouring a drink, not him peeing, by the way.
- 58:28Fucking hell. All right then.
- 58:30Cats are the bad guys, God damn it.
- 58:35I'm getting all deep in it and he's over here like it's fine,
- 58:39it's fine. Fucking hearing you.
- 58:44No, but realizing, right, We, we are spirit beings.
- 58:47We, we exist in a mortal fleshly body that is going, it's
- 58:53decaying day by day. It has an expiration date, but
- 58:56we don't, we are not, we don't have an expiration date.
- 59:02I you know, we exist and will exist and have existed.
- 59:08We are spirit beings and we're just confined and limited in our
- 59:12present form while we're traveling through on this plane.
- 59:18And there's a problem that comes with that because we've got
- 59:24fucking anxiety and depression and dumb shit that you know,
- 59:29comes along the way that. It just blows my mind, yeah.
- 59:36I'm good man. That's it's I'm just saying like
- 59:38if, if, if every path, if every step of our path think talking
- 59:42about the gods or even other more closely relational
- 59:49existence, right with our ancestors or the local spirit,
- 59:51right? If every path, if every step of
- 59:54your path, Patrick, if you are validated along every step of
- 59:58your path, do you think that you're going to develop
- 1:00:02discernment? No, absolutely not.
- 1:00:05Yeah, I've got you mentioned that too because if the gods or
- 1:00:10crispy or whatever you want to call it and they're accompanied
- 1:00:13us every step of the way. That's the bill Tinning.
- 1:00:17That's bad, Yeah. What is that doing for us?
- 1:00:19What you know happens. When things go wrong because
- 1:00:22they will go wrong, we need times and moments of silence and
- 1:00:28harshness, winters and falls. We need those harsh periods to
- 1:00:34be mindful of what's going on inside and outside of ourselves.
- 1:00:39It's all again. I must look at the statue across
- 1:00:43my chest this point just. But it's all part of the journey
- 1:00:46because I live and I stand by that fact that.
- 1:00:50'D be sick, but. Yeah, anyways, sorry.
- 1:00:55Well, I mean, let's tie it back to what we were talking earlier
- 1:00:57about with Odin and hanging from Egg Brasil for nine days, a
- 1:01:01night in silence, in agony by himself.
- 1:01:07You know, he didn't. He didn't receive what he
- 1:01:10received through comfort. He earned it through not just
- 1:01:15the ordeal, but through the uncertainty.
- 1:01:17Do you think that Odin knew that it was going to take 9 days and
- 1:01:21nights? I think it's, it's one of those
- 1:01:24wild things that I like to think about.
- 1:01:26Like imagine being him and you're on this pursuit to learn
- 1:01:31mysteries, discover these mysteries, these ancient
- 1:01:35mysteries that nobody else knew at this point in time or that
- 1:01:38were you know, And you you arrive at this tree and your
- 1:01:47spear down and you where are the runes?
- 1:01:50Where where are the mysteries? I thought they were.
- 1:01:52I thought they'd be here. And it's like, no, you've got to
- 1:01:56you got to hang out for a while. OK, How long is a while?
- 1:02:00Don't know. I guess we'll figure it out.
- 1:02:03And you hang there and an hour goes by and you're like, OK.
- 1:02:11And then two hours go by and you're like, shit.
- 1:02:14And then six hours go by and you're like, are we done yet?
- 1:02:18A day goes by and you're like, surely by now I've done enough.
- 1:02:22I've, I've, I've endured enough of this discomfort.
- 1:02:27And then the next night and then the next night and then the next
- 1:02:31night and you have, there's no end insight Like when you're
- 1:02:34when, if you if, if you were to try to put it in our frame of
- 1:02:38mind, right? Think about that, man.
- 1:02:40Think about how long we recognize time in nine days and
- 1:02:44nights. That's a week and 1/2 of being
- 1:02:48alone with no food, no drink and you're hanging and you're
- 1:02:52wounded. It looks pretty grim at this
- 1:02:57point. Probably not going to come out
- 1:03:00on top from this one. This is probably where I'm going
- 1:03:03to be forever. Like I'm probably going to die
- 1:03:04here, like the thoughts, the things that that were
- 1:03:08circulating, the uncertainty, the, the, the, the doubt, right,
- 1:03:13That that could have been going through his mind.
- 1:03:15The, the and it's we're relating.
- 1:03:18I'm relating this. I'm I'm bringing myself my own
- 1:03:20personal UPG, right? I'm relating myself to go
- 1:03:24through something like that. I I can't compare myself to a
- 1:03:27God in a sense of of that, but thinking along the lines of man,
- 1:03:33the uncertainty, not knowing that after 9 days and nights
- 1:03:37like you didn't have he didn't have a a run book like hang for
- 1:03:429 days and nights to discover the runes.
- 1:03:44Got it. Nope.
- 1:03:46Right now. Never that simple.
- 1:03:48Fuck that shit. He had no idea, you know, didn't
- 1:03:52know it was going to be whatever it was.
- 1:03:54So the uncertainty is another thing that it it's madding to
- 1:03:58think about, really, but. Also bad ass too.
- 1:04:03Yeah. But very challenging.
- 1:04:04It's equal parts like messed up badass well.
- 1:04:09That silence, you know, that isolation, that solitude, that
- 1:04:12endurance, like it tests any, any kind of test, like any kind
- 1:04:16of situation where you put into that extreme of a circumstance,
- 1:04:19it tests your motivation absolutely.
- 1:04:23Without that you can, you know, cuz once you like, oh wow, if I
- 1:04:27can, if I can endure this, what else can I endure?
- 1:04:33What else could I doubt myself on?
- 1:04:36You know, being able to accomplish previously that once
- 1:04:41I've accomplished this, you know, we've talked about this
- 1:04:44before. You yourself have, have shared
- 1:04:46in, you know, moments of, we call it fasting or with, you
- 1:04:53know, withdrawing from certain things for betterment, right?
- 1:04:57Hey, if you can do, if you can do a week, you can do 2 weeks.
- 1:05:00If you can do 2 weeks, you can do 3-4 or five.
- 1:05:02You can hell, you can do it forever.
- 1:05:03If you want, you can keep on going.
- 1:05:05If you can do it for a certain period of time, then you can do
- 1:05:07it indefinitely. It it's all back here.
- 1:05:09It's all comes to what, what we're, what we're assigning the
- 1:05:15importance of something to. If we think too much about it,
- 1:05:18if we if we that's going to be too hard, well then it we've
- 1:05:22already lost. Yeah, yeah, exactly right.
- 1:05:25You're cut yourself short. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:33So you know, this, this opens up kind of a, an opportunity for
- 1:05:39not just us here, but for like the audience that that catches
- 1:05:42this when they do to ask, you know, like if you are
- 1:05:50experiencing things and the experience, like let's say you
- 1:05:56start off and you're getting the feedback, you're getting the
- 1:05:59connection, you're getting these signs, these, these moments of
- 1:06:03like what I did worked, Rika, I've got it.
- 1:06:11But then those experiences stop. You stop getting those
- 1:06:17affirmations, you stop getting those validations.
- 1:06:20Would you still continue practicing what you're doing?
- 1:06:25Without doubt this is my answer, but.
- 1:06:28Getting those validations right. And that's an important question
- 1:06:31to ask. Are we doing it to get the
- 1:06:34response or are we doing it because it's what we feel is the
- 1:06:37right thing to do? It's what speaks to our spirit.
- 1:06:39It's what it's what connects us through whatever it is
- 1:06:42ancestors, you know, heritage, this and.
- 1:06:45That could be downright scary to ask ourselves that question
- 1:06:49because I'm not assuming or presuming anything from you,
- 1:06:53myself, or anyone else watching. But broadly speaking, there are
- 1:06:57people who may not be part of this channel or followers, but
- 1:07:02there are people. Let's make guys who follow a
- 1:07:05fad. 00, they're Norse Pagan. Oh, they dress so cool.
- 1:07:09All right, cool. Let's go like, no, no, no,
- 1:07:13they're messed up. Not messed up, but they're on
- 1:07:15the wrong path. The fog, a fad.
- 1:07:18This is a lifestyle, be it Norse paganism, animism or whatever
- 1:07:23path. It's a lifelong pursuit.
- 1:07:27Most of silence, inspirations, uplifting and amazing times and
- 1:07:34downright ugly like myself. And maybe too, we could all
- 1:07:39release that with Odin, hanker from the street like myself,
- 1:07:43with opiates or depression, what have you.
- 1:07:47We've been there. We've been naked and bare to the
- 1:07:53forces, to the elements, to our gods, to our ancestors.
- 1:07:57And though they may not speak their support, I believe with
- 1:08:03our true intentions, with the best of love, what we're going
- 1:08:08through. And we'll go through a heaven
- 1:08:10through. It's imperative to know we're
- 1:08:14special. Yeah.
- 1:08:18You know, we talked earlier about or I asked you, I think
- 1:08:21right around the beginning or near the beginning of the
- 1:08:22episode asking you, you know, is this something that you've
- 1:08:27experienced, you know, talking about that silence from the
- 1:08:31gods, right when the gods go quiet, when they go dark and you
- 1:08:34don't feel that sort of thing where things went quiet, you
- 1:08:39know, and it got you, you know, emotional.
- 1:08:40Now I wanted to ask you another question if I could of.
- 1:08:43Course, yeah. About that.
- 1:08:45So when that happened for you, I'm I'm curious what changed in
- 1:08:50your practice during that time? To be my fault that there are
- 1:08:56things going on outside and inside myself.
- 1:09:00Now inside I know I'm going to some things that no one else can
- 1:09:05relate to. That's OK.
- 1:09:08Now, on the grand scale, I know I'm not alone like you or anyone
- 1:09:14else like my dad. Or my mom or my brother.
- 1:09:27It's unfair to compare, but Trump be revelant to this
- 1:09:31question. What happens?
- 1:09:33This is again being Bible of inside but outside again, other
- 1:09:38people. We struggle together again.
- 1:09:41That's why I'm grateful and happy that our gods, our
- 1:09:44ancestors, our family, whatever you choose to call it, may not
- 1:09:49always be there to say, hey, good job, Jesse, good job,
- 1:09:52Patrick, good job, whatever. No, that's OK.
- 1:09:57They don't have to voice their opinions all the time.
- 1:10:00Sometimes with enough practice and experiences.
- 1:10:05That said, with the key that mine in these dark hours may
- 1:10:11days be at 9:10 or whatever, they don't have to voice their
- 1:10:16opinion. They have to get their support.
- 1:10:19We have to take it on the core to experience our challenges and
- 1:10:24celebrations. So hopefully that's a good
- 1:10:27answer, but that's what I have to say about.
- 1:10:29Well, it's your answer. I mean, I appreciate you, you
- 1:10:31know, answering it. Of course, you know, and that's,
- 1:10:34I think for me, 'cause I have a very specific moment that I can
- 1:10:38think of where I really felt like I was not being noticed or
- 1:10:47that there was something going on that was, you know, I felt
- 1:10:53abandoned. Yeah.
- 1:10:55Or I felt abandoned. I mean, I'll be honest, like I
- 1:10:57felt abandoned. Like I thought something had
- 1:10:59left me. And that was, there was a
- 1:11:01moment. There was a time where I was,
- 1:11:03you know, I was discovering my Filia, getting acquainted with
- 1:11:09them, the heroin, getting a lot of feedback from the landscape,
- 1:11:17from the local spirits of the land and the Heron and all that.
- 1:11:20And then there was also a time that I didn't get any of it.
- 1:11:26I'm like, I'm at the river, I'm doing the work, I'm here, I'm
- 1:11:30praying, I'm sending prayers, I'm giving offerings.
- 1:11:33I'm doing these things and I'm not getting a visual indication
- 1:11:38that they are present. What am I doing wrong?
- 1:11:41And I remember talking to some brothers about it and, umm, kind
- 1:11:48of being vulnerable about it, 'cause I did it, it made me feel
- 1:11:51like I had, I'd been remiss, you know, or that I was doing
- 1:11:55something wrong. And I learned, you know, what
- 1:11:58changed in my practice for that, for me, I, I still kept doing
- 1:12:04it, but I didn't look for visuals because I had to learn
- 1:12:10this is their space. This is things are happening and
- 1:12:13you are not. The world doesn't revolve around
- 1:12:16Jesse, the life cycle. Things don't revolve around you,
- 1:12:21me. No, of course not.
- 1:12:22And I had to, I had to come to that realization, but nothing.
- 1:12:26I still did what I was doing. But I, I, I, I entered that
- 1:12:31doing of things with a different mindset.
- 1:12:33I realized, OK, well, whether I see something or not doesn't
- 1:12:37change that what I'm doing, the work is still being done.
- 1:12:41And if anything, it's strengthened, it's strengthened
- 1:12:46my approach. It strengthened my path.
- 1:12:47I don't know how it did for you. Hopefully it, it strengthened
- 1:12:50yours too, or deep in it, if it even, you know, but that's,
- 1:12:54that's, that's my, that's my personal, you know, reflection
- 1:12:57on that is, is when I wasn't getting those validations.
- 1:13:02It, it allowed me the opportunity to realize that
- 1:13:06they're not here to, to validate you and you're not here to
- 1:13:10receive it. Yeah, it'll, it'll happen when
- 1:13:14it happens, you know? Perspiratory those to hard times
- 1:13:18'cause this hard times serve as a lesson.
- 1:13:23Every day we experience this things like being disconnected
- 1:13:27again. Guys, it's OK be disconnected.
- 1:13:30We need to be disconnected to reconnected yet again.
- 1:13:33Why go hiking so much? It comes as no surprise.
- 1:13:36Why go outside so much? It's not escaping anything.
- 1:13:40It's being present an element outside my own to really be
- 1:13:44like, all right, well, nature's nature, it runs on its own
- 1:13:48course in its own pace. So it's unfair to compare 1 to
- 1:13:52another. It's just part of the journey.
- 1:13:54Again, tattooed diaper 2026 or whatever.
- 1:13:58But just like God damn. Like it's very important to know
- 1:14:01that very imperative to know that one experience is not
- 1:14:05merited by to another experience 'cause we live our own lives
- 1:14:09separately, you know, but just again, this is my second answer,
- 1:14:15but. Absolutely.
- 1:14:17Well, the other thing too, I think that that this problem of,
- 1:14:22and I say problem loosely, but the challenge that we face with
- 1:14:35having a hard time accepting the silence or when the gods go
- 1:14:38quiet and all that, I think a lot of it is rooted in the
- 1:14:43reality that we do live in a time where everything is
- 1:14:49immediate. You know what I mean?
- 1:14:53Absolutely. Like there's constant
- 1:14:56stimulation going around. We've talked, I've talked about
- 1:14:59this on the show. You've probably been on the show
- 1:15:00before we talked about this, but you know, instant feedback
- 1:15:04loops, you know, expectations of when I send a message, I get a
- 1:15:08response or at least it gets seen.
- 1:15:11You know what I mean? Like whatever instant
- 1:15:14gratification, constant stimulation, immediate responses
- 1:15:18to things. So when when we're inundated
- 1:15:21with that standard, I believe that it can transfer into our
- 1:15:28spirituality if we're not careful, the expectation of
- 1:15:31spiritual, quote UN quote, results because we're so
- 1:15:38stimulated constantly. So like when things go quiet and
- 1:15:42we're not getting that stimulation or that validation,
- 1:15:44I think we have people are assuming that something must be
- 1:15:49broken. Something's wrong, I've done
- 1:15:52something wrong, something's wrong, right.
- 1:15:53There's there's there's a glitch here somewhere.
- 1:15:56It's not cut and drives that. It's not so simple as that.
- 1:15:59No, nothing's broken. It's like we said at the
- 1:16:01beginning, like nothing is broken.
- 1:16:02You're not, you're not. You're not doing anything wrong.
- 1:16:06The only thing that's not happening is your own
- 1:16:09entertainment. You're not being entertained
- 1:16:12anymore. You're not being fucking patted
- 1:16:14on the back giving a good all had a boy, right?
- 1:16:17That's the only thing that's different.
- 1:16:20You're not. Your ego's not getting stroked.
- 1:16:23You know, nothing's broken. You just aren't getting
- 1:16:27stimulated. And look at those.
- 1:16:29Look at that. Look at them.
- 1:16:30Is it still sunny there or is that the is that the porch
- 1:16:33light? It's my girl.
- 1:16:34Light. It's my plants and I.
- 1:16:36Oh OK OK, for a second I thought you were outside and that the
- 1:16:39sun was shining on like 8A damn clock at night.
- 1:16:42Actually this. Still daylight?
- 1:16:43Give me a second. Let's go.
- 1:16:46Let's go It still cuts for daylight.
- 1:16:51Yeah, it's dusk. Yeah.
- 1:16:53Yes, Dusk, right? Yeah.
- 1:16:55Definitely more bright, not as bright as what I was seeing.
- 1:16:58For a second there I was like, what the hell?
- 1:16:59No, no. Did you move to the West Coast?
- 1:17:03Maybe we're at the. Same time zone.
- 1:17:07Right. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:17:08I'm like, did you just transport to fucking like Washington or
- 1:17:12California all of a sudden and now it's, you know, 5:00.
- 1:17:15But no, that's. What's my place 'cause this
- 1:17:18covers basically what we're talking about.
- 1:17:21Yeah. Are you, are you like, when are
- 1:17:25you? When are you thinking about
- 1:17:27transplanting? May 1st.
- 1:17:29May 1st. Yes, that's right.
- 1:17:32OK, Beltane. That's right.
- 1:17:35Also the the the the cigar bloat Eve.
- 1:17:40Yeah, Hell yeah. They're doing great.
- 1:17:43They're doing great. Not to get off track, but my
- 1:17:48boys. No, I think that is on track
- 1:17:51honestly, because what happens in silence when you're asleep,
- 1:17:54when you're not there, they, they are growing.
- 1:17:56They are, they are doing their thing and it's happening
- 1:17:58quietly, happening silently. You're part of it and there's no
- 1:18:02noise to there's visual things that you can see right there,
- 1:18:07growth and you can see there and all of that, but there you go.
- 1:18:16When the gods go quiet, what do you do?
- 1:18:20What what happens? What happens when we feel that
- 1:18:25exactly right? Maintain your practices anyway.
- 1:18:28Remain steadfast. 'Cause you will be rewarded.
- 1:18:33'Cause you know why? What do you think matters more?
- 1:18:40Inspiration or discipline? Discipline.
- 1:18:44Without a doubt. We need.
- 1:18:46This we need the hard times we. Need to be fucked up more than
- 1:18:50inspiration. We.
- 1:18:51Need to be challenged 'cause it builds greatness.
- 1:18:54Struggle breeds greatness and I stand by that.
- 1:18:58Not the praise or shout. Out or to my own whore.
- 1:19:01But guys, you know, being born lived different.
- 1:19:05A black sheep who will. Many of us can relate to that.
- 1:19:10But again, our journey is our own.
- 1:19:13Not our mom, not our dad, not our cousin, not our brother, not
- 1:19:16our sister. It's our journey, guys.
- 1:19:20Come on. OK, OK.
- 1:19:24We are special. We matter.
- 1:19:27We're different. Don't be ashamed of being
- 1:19:30different. Now, I'll tell you what though,
- 1:19:33it's easy to feel that way, especially with family.
- 1:19:37Again, keeping it revelant to the meat, potatoes.
- 1:19:39But I've. I'm proud of you, listeners and
- 1:19:43viewers who've gone this far keeping you.
- 1:19:50I'm proud of you. I can't speak on your gods, your
- 1:19:53practice, but I'm proud of you for supporting myself and chess.
- 1:19:58But anyways, again, you know, back to you, Jesse.
- 1:20:02Oh man, it's great. I love, I love the, the
- 1:20:05attention that you're bringing to ourselves with this.
- 1:20:09It's, I think it's important also, as you, as you talk about
- 1:20:12that is, is to recognize, yes, discipline does matter more than
- 1:20:16inspiration. It's, it's about doing the work,
- 1:20:19It's about applying yourself. And then in that endeavor, you
- 1:20:24know, you focus on what you have control over.
- 1:20:29You have control over what offerings you give.
- 1:20:31You have control over how your behavior reflects.
- 1:20:34You have, you have control over the consistency, you know what I
- 1:20:39mean? Those are the things that you as
- 1:20:42an individual, we as individuals have control over.
- 1:20:45So it's, it's instead of seeking the experience, we, we, we, we
- 1:20:49shift to building a relationship and maintaining it and being
- 1:20:54disciplined and doing it anyway. Right, with the ebb and flow,
- 1:20:58the actions and things present to us, like things that happened
- 1:21:02to me personally with my family that I expect that that happened
- 1:21:06like, much like my hike today. And it happened, Yeah.
- 1:21:10These moments that challenge us may be great and dumb, right?
- 1:21:14Fucking horrible. Horrible beyond measure.
- 1:21:18Scary. Terrifying.
- 1:21:19Absolutely. But does that stop me for loving
- 1:21:22a loved one who's suffering? I tell you, barely viewers, my
- 1:21:28brother Jesse, No, we keep doing what we do.
- 1:21:38We keep doing what we do and we also, I think here's here's
- 1:21:41like, let's let's bring it to like a a reality, like let's
- 1:21:48back to reality. Oop, there goes rabbit heating.
- 1:21:53I don't know, whatever. So I'm I'm terrible with the
- 1:21:56with the lyrical relations. Anyway, so we talk about this,
- 1:22:03right? We talk about relationships,
- 1:22:05having a relationship with the land, with our gods, not
- 1:22:10expecting things. And in that expectation, that's
- 1:22:12an expectation. Whether it happens or not, like
- 1:22:15that's still an expectation. Think about this is every
- 1:22:22relationship that you have, and this isn't just pointed to you,
- 1:22:25Patrick. I mean, I'm saying this, you
- 1:22:27know, to the audience, to myself even.
- 1:22:29But is every relationship that we have, are we in a constant
- 1:22:35conversation? Are we in constant connection
- 1:22:41with any relationship that we have?
- 1:22:45No. No.
- 1:22:46So why should we assign that expectation of being in constant
- 1:22:52connection with our relationship with the gods when we're not
- 1:22:55even in constant relationship with the people who are in front
- 1:22:59of our faces? And why should we choose this,
- 1:23:01to call this to assist our duties?
- 1:23:03Why should we get that excuse to make?
- 1:23:06All right, I'm done. I have got the luck with Thor or
- 1:23:09Freya or the deer or what have you.
- 1:23:12Should I stop now? No.
- 1:23:15Like I lost my hike again. I got messed up.
- 1:23:19I got rescued, more or less, but I just did that stop me from
- 1:23:22hiking. You know the answer.
- 1:23:25You all know the answer, you know me, but just no, of course
- 1:23:28not. That's a negatory Yeah, man.
- 1:23:36It's, you know, physical silence.
- 1:23:39You know, when we look at mythic, yeah, comparing the
- 1:23:42physical silence, mythic silence, nature has that.
- 1:23:48You know, sometimes we, we like to experience nature for the
- 1:23:53sights and the sounds that it offers.
- 1:23:56And then there's other times, dude, when you're just out on
- 1:23:58the trail and you stop, maybe you sit on a stump, maybe you
- 1:24:03sit on a log, maybe sit on a rock, maybe whatever.
- 1:24:06And you just enjoy the silence. Yeah, there's nothing.
- 1:24:14Silence. And again, that's why I'm glad
- 1:24:19you mentioned that too, because with special modes, with
- 1:24:23divinity, be it the gods or our ancestors, sometimes that's just
- 1:24:28for us. A moment just between US and
- 1:24:32sacred was easy to like. All right, Facebook, here we
- 1:24:36come. Or Instagram, here we go.
- 1:24:38You know, like, that's OK, but sometimes it's important.
- 1:24:43To get it. Separate those two.
- 1:24:46It's an. Awareness thing.
- 1:24:48It's it's an awareness thing. Awareness.
- 1:24:50Thank you. Yeah, you're exactly right.
- 1:24:51Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:24:53I appreciate that awareness. I.
- 1:24:56Mean there's like, you know, I have it with my river walks.
- 1:24:58You have it on the trail, you know, not everything that I'm
- 1:25:02like, dude, there are so much that on my last river walk that
- 1:25:08I was exposed to that I was given presents with that did not
- 1:25:15get captured on a camera. And I'm not I'm fine with that.
- 1:25:18Like that's totally OK. I don't that was for me.
- 1:25:22You know, when a Heron, three of them, whatever at different
- 1:25:26points in time, when they literally fly up over me almost
- 1:25:29to the point that I could reach out and touch him.
- 1:25:30I could see the pin feathers on their breasts and, and the Crest
- 1:25:34on their head and the color of their, their beak and just, you
- 1:25:38know, see that in front of me. There's no way that I could have
- 1:25:42that camera and done it justice. Why?
- 1:25:46Because that's not what it was for, you know, and, and that's
- 1:25:51the other thing too. If, if, if, if our entire
- 1:25:55spiritual life depends on feeling something, getting that
- 1:26:01validation, getting that, whatever, then I would, then I
- 1:26:06would venture to say that what we're what we're going after is
- 1:26:10not the depth of our practice. It's just stimulation.
- 1:26:17I just want to be out there to capture something that I can
- 1:26:19share with somebody else that they can go, oh wow, likes
- 1:26:23reacts, you know, downloads, views, fucking clout nonsense,
- 1:26:29right? If that's all it is, you're
- 1:26:31chasing the stimulation. Your loss, your loss.
- 1:26:34Not in it for the right reasons. We'd be guilty of that too.
- 1:26:39I'd be guilty of that. I'm not shame to say it.
- 1:26:42Well, I am kind. Of shame to say that yeah, we.
- 1:26:45All have, you know, shame. And admitting it, we've all
- 1:26:46have. But it's coming to that
- 1:26:47awareness, right? Again, guys, those of you
- 1:26:50watching me and Jesse are not higher or below anyone else or
- 1:26:55with you. Nope.
- 1:26:57Again, guys, group hug. That's nothing right now.
- 1:27:01But we stay in United. We love each other.
- 1:27:07I precept the way again that into the video here but.
- 1:27:12For sure man, I appreciate that. We're not heroes, just Average
- 1:27:18Joe, Dick and Harry if you will. Like, dude, I'm just, I'm just,
- 1:27:22I'm just, you know, I'm just cruising through this journey,
- 1:27:28doing the best that I can with what I've been given and
- 1:27:33learning along the way and course correcting as I go.
- 1:27:40I'm not. I'm not in any form or fashion
- 1:27:43positioning myself as an authority, no.
- 1:27:48With this nor can I there. Are things that I know that I'm
- 1:27:51going to teach with, like for example, you know, the living
- 1:27:54Food arc that is I am an authority with that, I have the
- 1:28:00experience. I am positioning myself as I
- 1:28:02will be your teacher. I will be your guide.
- 1:28:04I will give you the lessons to give you the skills to do the
- 1:28:07thing that I know is working because I've seen it work on
- 1:28:10this and that that's different. But with all this, like what
- 1:28:13we're talking about, it's, it's, you know, I'm just, it's, I'm
- 1:28:18sharing, you're sharing you're, you're part of this, you know,
- 1:28:22as the Co host this this week, sharing an experience and other
- 1:28:26people can hear it, watch it, absorb it and relate in their
- 1:28:31own way as they, as it speaks to them, you know, and it's a
- 1:28:37reflection point too, right, Because as we talk about source
- 1:28:40material, historic this and that, we see a repeated thing,
- 1:28:45right? These these old stories, they
- 1:28:47don't, they don't promise constant connection.
- 1:28:51We live in a moment, we live in a time now where constant
- 1:28:55recognition is happening, constant stimulation is
- 1:28:57happening. But that wasn't a thing.
- 1:29:00These, these old stories, these these sources, whether it's
- 1:29:04sagas, myths, lore, poems, whatever they are, they show us
- 1:29:09something that's harder, a bit more real, I think.
- 1:29:14Maybe if we buy sample if you will.
- 1:29:18Yeah, lead by deed, God damn it, right.
- 1:29:21That's a, that's a phrase that we're both familiar with.
- 1:29:23Lead by deed. Exactly right.
- 1:29:25And again, it's very challenging to look back on these sagas,
- 1:29:30these chapters of other people and other Davies lives.
- 1:29:35And when we look back on these figures, these inspirations,
- 1:29:39sometimes we lose track of ourselves and that's OK.
- 1:29:42Again, no judgement. We're here together, but just
- 1:29:47damn it, guys, how challenge is that?
- 1:29:50We go back to Odin again, he suffers.
- 1:29:55Does he seek lags, views anyone in that period or no, Of course
- 1:30:01not. They're part of what they're
- 1:30:04going through. And that's a lesson in itself,
- 1:30:08right? Because I think the wisdom of
- 1:30:13these stories of the past, right, the things that have
- 1:30:16gotten retained and passed down, that wisdom is, is often found
- 1:30:24in when there's no noise, when it's quiet, it's the silence.
- 1:30:31Because endurance matters. And you know, sometimes our
- 1:30:40path, that path forward as we're moving, sometimes we are walking
- 1:30:47that path without, without reassurance.
- 1:30:53That's, that's reality. So when the gods go quiet for
- 1:30:59the people, you know, for the for the sake of the title of the
- 1:31:02episode, right when when the gods go quiet, I don't think
- 1:31:06that I don't think that the question that we should ask is
- 1:31:10where did they go? What do I do?
- 1:31:14Who have you become in that moment of silence?
- 1:31:19What has happened to me when they went silent?
- 1:31:23What is going on with me? Go back to ourselves.
- 1:31:27Focus on that. Where did I?
- 1:31:30Where did I go? What have I become in that
- 1:31:34silence? You know, because they haven't
- 1:31:39gone anywhere. They've always been.
- 1:31:43It's, it's us alright. Yeah, it's us that have become,
- 1:31:50uh, awakened or, or reintroduced or reminded of our place in the
- 1:31:59whole grand scheme of things where we are woven into this web
- 1:32:04of weird to make it irrelevant, you know, to, to make it
- 1:32:09relevant to the heathen audience.
- 1:32:11Right. Weird.
- 1:32:11And, and this tapestry of threads that, you know, make up.
- 1:32:18That's amazing what it is. It really is.
- 1:32:20Yeah. They've always been.
- 1:32:21They've always been and they continue to be, always will be.
- 1:32:25Yeah. And.
- 1:32:26That's a really covering attack too, don't buy me, but that's
- 1:32:30very covering to know they won't go anywhere.
- 1:32:34It's us that sometimes go elsewhere.
- 1:32:38Again, no shame guys stills new or existing on this path, much
- 1:32:44like myself or anyone else. It's OK to feel that way.
- 1:32:48Don't shame yourself. Don't hide the corner.
- 1:32:51If you want to hide A corner, that's fine, but sometimes you
- 1:32:54gotta break outside that shell. Become the man, the woman, your
- 1:32:59men's feet. Yeah, don't, don't, don't be
- 1:33:03shameful of the path that you're on.
- 1:33:05Embrace it. And even when it's hard, even
- 1:33:09when it throws you off a loop, maybe, maybe, maybe the path
- 1:33:13that you're on has a cause. God damn it.
- 1:33:18You know, I've felt it too. I've, I've been on a path that
- 1:33:21has, I've stepped a little bit off and I went humbling down the
- 1:33:24ravine. I landed on my ass.
- 1:33:28I landed on my face. I you know what I mean.
- 1:33:30And then I had a crawl back up the ditch.
- 1:33:35I had to crawl back up and get back on the path.
- 1:33:37But that that tumbling down is a lesson too.
- 1:33:41There was a moment of a lesson and you know, I've wrote about
- 1:33:46it. It's you know, it's some of
- 1:33:48that, some of that a piece of my story of life is, is captured in
- 1:33:53the saga of the Heron that flies to hell, where through those
- 1:33:59through those moments of of challenge, you know, literally
- 1:34:04being attacked or being, you know, exposed to forces that
- 1:34:12would want to see you dead or, you know, try to fail or fail.
- 1:34:19Right, right, right, right. Going through it and getting
- 1:34:22through it was was the lesson. But it it, you still come out a
- 1:34:26little bit beaten, a little bit battered, you know, wings
- 1:34:29tattered, beak slightly bent. You know there's a song.
- 1:34:37Or it's broken I. I wrote this song for it, you
- 1:34:40know, it's, you know, a beak bent with time, feathers torn by
- 1:34:47the winds of the Nordenier. You know, the, the, the, the,
- 1:34:54the, the, the constant existence.
- 1:34:57Because again, we, we're in this physical form.
- 1:34:59So we have these ideas, but we're still limited in this
- 1:35:02physical form to go through it. And it's it gets frustrating and
- 1:35:06it gets these. Ideas and expectations too.
- 1:35:09You know, we have expectations like what should do better than
- 1:35:12yesterday? Like no, no, no, look, today is
- 1:35:15today. Be present, be my fault.
- 1:35:19What's gone through Seize the Day.
- 1:35:21Exactly right. That's what I.
- 1:35:23Love dude, that's what I love. Garpe DMC is the fucking day,
- 1:35:27right? And that's what I love you and I
- 1:35:30share with others. Like every day.
- 1:35:33Doesn't matter what time you wake up, somebody is greeting
- 1:35:38the day and acknowledging the day as grand and as great and
- 1:35:48that you are claiming greatness. You know, this is something that
- 1:35:53we share with other brothers, right, Patrick?
- 1:35:56We, we have that experience where we have that group chat
- 1:36:02going and it's, you know, every day, no matter who it is.
- 1:36:05That's right. It might be me, it might be
- 1:36:06John, might be you might be Adam, whoever somebody is in
- 1:36:12there greeting the day as it being grand because that is what
- 1:36:16it is. And this is a beautiful practice
- 1:36:18to a beautiful practice of, of presence of awareness is to, you
- 1:36:22know, some people work nights, some people work odd hours, but
- 1:36:26whatever time you're, whatever time of day that you awake, that
- 1:36:31is a new day that you've been given, it's a gift.
- 1:36:35You have life in your breath, in your lungs, you have life in
- 1:36:38front of you. You have vision, you have sight,
- 1:36:41you have feelings, you have things that are gifts.
- 1:36:45And to acknowledge it and to pray and to give thanks for that
- 1:36:49you know, this is a life that we only get once this version.
- 1:36:56So to thank, to be thankful, to show gratitude to hail the day,
- 1:37:02hail sons of day, hail night and her daughter now give to us
- 1:37:06wisdom and goodly speech, right. This, this great prayer from the
- 1:37:11Sig 3 from all That's what that's, you know, such a great
- 1:37:15stanza. It's a great lines.
- 1:37:17But man, it is it is a cultural thing that we can as as the
- 1:37:21dramatic peoples, as heathens, right?
- 1:37:23We can rightfully adopt that as our prayer to wake welcome the
- 1:37:31day with our waking eyes, you know, give to us wisdom and
- 1:37:34goodly speech and healing hands lifelong.
- 1:37:37You know that waiting we victory win such a powerful way to start
- 1:37:43your your day, your your night, whatever your existence after
- 1:37:48sleep, after rest, you know you've been rested, you've been
- 1:37:50given sleep. Now you come forth into this,
- 1:37:55this grand rising, this greatness that you claim it.
- 1:37:59And if you claim it, then it is it's yours.
- 1:38:03It's yours. It's yours for the sake.
- 1:38:06Yeah, like that's that. Yeah, seize the day, carpe diem.
- 1:38:13Fucking right. But all right, man, we've been
- 1:38:17going for what is it now? An hour and a half?
- 1:38:19A little over all, right, All right.
- 1:38:21I want to be respectful of your time.
- 1:38:23We pretty much covered all of the, as you like to say, the
- 1:38:26meat and potatoes. I think the you said.
- 1:38:28It first. Yeah, well, I said it first
- 1:38:31after you said it like 17 times, it's going to be it's going to
- 1:38:35be a thing, OK? Every time Patrick's on a
- 1:38:37podcast, anytime he says meat and potatoes, you take a shot.
- 1:38:41It's going to be a drinking game.
- 1:38:42And let's see how you all turn out.
- 1:38:47You made it this far in the episode.
- 1:38:49Tell me in comments how many times Patrick said meat and
- 1:38:52potatoes. I'm sorry in defense guys, if
- 1:38:59you're like. No, no, don't be sorry.
- 1:39:02Embrace it. You know, I'm sure I have those
- 1:39:05things too. I'm sure that I don't know, I'm
- 1:39:10not aware of it. I'm not aware if I have anything
- 1:39:12that, that, that is, is quite like that cause like I was, I
- 1:39:17was joking around, you know, John, you know, decent.
- 1:39:21He, yeah, he, I was, I was joking around with him because
- 1:39:26we were all camping at Adam's a couple weekends ago.
- 1:39:29I remember that. I remember that very fine.
- 1:39:31Have you noticed? Have you noticed like when he
- 1:39:33talks there, he says things. And by the way, I've already
- 1:39:35said this to him in person. So me talking about it right now
- 1:39:38without him here, it's fine because he would absolutely
- 1:39:42corroborate this, right? But hadn't you noticed talking
- 1:39:45to him that he will? So like, I'll be John for a
- 1:39:50second, right? And you're talking to me and
- 1:39:54then my response as John. Yeah, You know, it's one of
- 1:39:57those. It's just one of those.
- 1:40:01That's his. That's his thing.
- 1:40:03That's his phrase. It's one of those.
- 1:40:06Have you noticed that? Yeah, I have.
- 1:40:08It's just one, yeah. So I'm like, bro, you're going
- 1:40:14to play a drinking game where every time you say it's one of
- 1:40:16those we have to take a shot, we'll be dead within the first
- 1:40:19like 3 minutes because it's. So he just, he said and he
- 1:40:25laughed, man. He was like, yeah, no, you're
- 1:40:26right. It's just one of those I'm like,
- 1:40:28see, there you go again, you know?
- 1:40:32Yeah, I know right there is what sort of thing out the ass.
- 1:40:36It's a meat and potatoes. That's, that's, that's
- 1:40:38Patrick's, you know, drinking game.
- 1:40:40How many times? Patrick says back to the meat
- 1:40:42and potatoes or safe roster shout out.
- 1:40:44Don't give a start there. That's another one.
- 1:40:47But meat and potatoes on the podcast, you say it a lot, and
- 1:40:52I'm not no problem with it. I'm just saying I appreciate
- 1:40:55that that's your thing. All right, let's get back to the
- 1:40:56meat and potatoes. Well, shit, bro.
- 1:40:59OK, All right, I. Adopt that motherfucker.
- 1:41:01I adopt that one. It's mine.
- 1:41:03It's mine. It's.
- 1:41:07Mine my island. It's my island.
- 1:41:14That was a great scene. That was a great scene from
- 1:41:16Braveheart too. God's old man.
- 1:41:21Hey old man, that almost my friends.
- 1:41:27Dude's like, are you conversing? Is your father a ghost or are
- 1:41:31you conversing with the Almighty?
- 1:41:33In order to find his equal, an Irishman is forced to talk to
- 1:41:36God. Yes, Father.
- 1:41:40He says answer the block of Russian.
- 1:41:43Answer the fuck the Almighty says.
- 1:41:49Old man. Hey, that's my friend, old man.
- 1:41:55Good stuff. Yes, if you get to, if you get,
- 1:41:58if you fight for me, you get to kill the English.
- 1:42:00Excellent, excellent. You answered my.
- 1:42:04Question. The old man says he's got me,
- 1:42:07but he's pretty sure you're fucked.
- 1:42:12All right? All right.
- 1:42:13So any questions, any comments? Well, I think that pretty much
- 1:42:19wraps it up and I'm glad that you're here and able to
- 1:42:25contribute so much, man. I just want to say thank you to
- 1:42:27Co hosting with me and bringing a lot of your spirit and insight
- 1:42:33to the topic this week. I think it was a great topic to
- 1:42:36to share in because this was the one that was like, man, I could
- 1:42:38talk about this on a solo thing, but I dude, I want to, I want to
- 1:42:42get some dialogue, you know, and you definitely brought that man,
- 1:42:45and I appreciate it. So I'm glad that we could meet
- 1:42:49on that level and get into the, as you say, meat and potatoes.
- 1:42:55So do you have anything else for me?
- 1:42:57Do you have any comments, questions, things you want to
- 1:42:59leave for people before we wrap this up?
- 1:43:05I do keeping it my fault like the Raven that you're mentioning
- 1:43:16be my fault. But I was going to say be
- 1:43:20yourself. Don't shame yourself in these
- 1:43:23days, hours, weeks, maybe years of silence.
- 1:43:29That's OK. Take comfort and this is part of
- 1:43:35the journey. It's OK to get lost again.
- 1:43:39I go out to nature so much because I'm not escaping
- 1:43:43anything. I need a place to be myself and
- 1:43:48I help and pray to all you you find a special place like me, be
- 1:43:54it outdoors, blogging or what have you.
- 1:44:00Don't get dismayed. Be yourself.
- 1:44:05Do you know? Sorry, didn't mean to cut you
- 1:44:08off. No with that said, just want to
- 1:44:13throw this out there prayers and thoughts to my dad.
- 1:44:20Won't go into details but I'm hoping my man mentioned that but
- 1:44:25my dad needs all the support he can give or get.
- 1:44:29He needs it. And it's Jim, not Joe, by the
- 1:44:32way, I was playing earlier. Hey.
- 1:44:36Joe Hey, Joe. But yeah, absolutely Jim.
- 1:44:40Jim, I know he doesn't probably listen or watch the podcast, but
- 1:44:44he. Never will, but yeah, you've got
- 1:44:45this. And let him know, man, like I
- 1:44:47mean, we've never met in person, but I love your son.
- 1:44:51He's a brother of mine, which makes you kin to me as well.
- 1:44:55And all the healing, all the power, all it you've got this
- 1:44:59man. Just keep it, keep it up, keep
- 1:45:02that. Keep fighting.
- 1:45:04Don't, don't, don't give up. You've got this.
- 1:45:06I. Appreciate that brother.
- 1:45:08So that's my and also before I continue and and my piece of
- 1:45:12this amazing podcast that I'm so grateful of the part of and
- 1:45:15thank you brother, for allowing me the opportunity to be a Co
- 1:45:19host in the world channel you listeners, let's go.
- 1:45:27Thank you for giving Jesse the love.
- 1:45:33As for he sorely deserves this guy over here.
- 1:45:38This guy over here. Jesse has been a long standing
- 1:45:42best friend and brother of mine. And to those of you who love
- 1:45:46support him again, thank you from the bottom of his mind,
- 1:45:51body and heart and spirit. I thank you, like myself, for
- 1:45:57helping him in his journey because he also validates and
- 1:46:02accompanies our journey just like our gods and our ancestors.
- 1:46:06Thank you for giving giving him the time of your day.
- 1:46:09To watch his content, subscribe and to the top tiers of his
- 1:46:13Patreon channel, thank you. With that said, if there's
- 1:46:17something I can do to give a added bonus to maybe next
- 1:46:21month's patrons challenge, maybe I can give something in return.
- 1:46:25Maybe my own ruining or whatever.
- 1:46:31I'll be working on that in the future.
- 1:46:32But I'll, I'll look at something in return to Bill, to your
- 1:46:36supporters, something I can give and my love support for them.
- 1:46:41Well, brother, I mean, I think, I think absolutely.
- 1:46:43I mean, whatever speaks to your spirit, but like just the fact
- 1:46:45that you want to be here and contribute your time, like
- 1:46:49that's a huge gift our and this is a thing that doesn't get
- 1:46:53spoken of enough. Our time is a gift A.
- 1:46:57Sacrifice. Yeah, we can't get back the.
- 1:47:00Time that we've given, it's been given already.
- 1:47:02So the fact that you've dedicated an hour and 40
- 1:47:05something minutes already that we're about to wrap up closely
- 1:47:08is, is a tremendous gift. And I thank you for that as
- 1:47:13being willing to Co host and be present on the podcast as often
- 1:47:17as you are. It's it's a great gift.
- 1:47:19So thank you. I was going to say lastly,
- 1:47:24before we wrap it up, are are you like, are you a Depeche Mode
- 1:47:27fan? Do you know Depeche Mode?
- 1:47:30I've. Heard of them?
- 1:47:32You've heard of them? There's there's a pretty famous
- 1:47:35song that they're famously known by and the title of the song is
- 1:47:40Enjoy the Silence. That sounds very, very familiar.
- 1:47:46I have to look it up afterwards, but yeah.
- 1:47:48Yeah. All I ever wanted, all I ever
- 1:47:52needed is here in my arms. Words are very unnecessary.
- 1:48:00They can only do harm. No, no, no.
- 1:48:04No. Is that the right tune?
- 1:48:06Yeah. Yeah, just very familiar.
- 1:48:08Sounds stupid familiar and I'll get myself in the ass at the
- 1:48:12back of washes like. Just say.
- 1:48:14Just say. I heard that song.
- 1:48:15Yeah. I knew it.
- 1:48:16I knew. It my parting words, my parting
- 1:48:19piece of my parting piece. I guess as we wrap this up is
- 1:48:24for the listeners, right? And for the viewers.
- 1:48:27Give that a spin. Listen to Depeche Mode, enjoy
- 1:48:30the silence and listen to the lyrics.
- 1:48:33Words like violence break the silence, come crashing into my
- 1:48:38little world, painful to me, Pierce right through me.
- 1:48:41Can't you understand anyway, it's it's it's a poetic sign off
- 1:48:47of sorts, but the title of the song is enjoy the silence.
- 1:48:51And this is a message to pass to the listeners and the viewers,
- 1:48:54right? Silence can be deafening.
- 1:48:57It can be scary. It can be terrifying.
- 1:48:59It can cause you to question things and question yourself
- 1:49:03even, but realize that it's part of the process.
- 1:49:09It it is absolutely, then it, it, it exists and it needs to
- 1:49:14exist. So enjoy it, embrace it, become
- 1:49:17familiar with it, give it space. Don't don't try to ring bells to
- 1:49:22to to keep noise happening just for the sake of it avoiding it.
- 1:49:26Enjoy the silence, embrace the silence, and thank you.
- 1:49:34Yeah, man. So I'm going to end the live
- 1:49:36stream, which isn't really going, I guess anymore for
- 1:49:39whatever reason. But anyway, for the listeners,
- 1:49:41for the viewers, when you catch this, please check out the links
- 1:49:45that are annotated anywhere in this episode to follow Patrick

- 1:51:21club, man. Welcome to the fucking party,

- 1:51:50Hold yourselves up and enjoy the silence.
- 1:51:54So until we talk to each other again, Patrick, you hang around.
- 1:52:00May the gods continue to notice you, and may your ancestors
- 1:52:04smile upon you. We'll see you in the next one.
