- 0:10Speaker 1: Day addition, as the Bengals fail to hold on to

- 0:59Speaker 1: to travel. In fact, seeing the world is my favorite
- 1:03Speaker 1: thing in the world, and between work and vacations, I've
- 1:06Speaker 1: been very lucky to see a bunch of it, but
- 1:09Speaker 1: not in twenty twenty. Like many of you, I haven't
- 1:12Speaker 1: ventured very far from home during this pandemic, and that's
- 1:15Speaker 1: one of the things I miss the most. Here's hoping
- 1:19Speaker 1: we can all satisfy our wander lust again in the
- 1:22Speaker 1: months to come. Now, let's get to Sunday's game. Andy
- 1:26Speaker 1: Dalton started the day one for one against his former
- 1:29Speaker 1: team by correctly calling the coin toss. The Cowboys elected
- 1:33Speaker 1: to defer, meaning the Bengals got the ball first. They
- 1:36Speaker 1: kept it for all of two plays. Now, Tyler Boyd
- 1:40Speaker 1: goes in motion as they handed off up the middle
- 1:42Speaker 1: of Giovanni Bernard bounced off at tackles the ball our
- 1:46Speaker 1: rarity for Giovanni Bernard. We'll see who has it. At
- 1:50Speaker 1: the thirty two yard line, DeMarcus Lawrence forced the fumble.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Giovanni Bernard had carried eight hundred twenty nine consecutive times
- 1:59Speaker 1: without a fall. Dallas recovers, so the Cowboys first drive
- 2:03Speaker 1: started at the Cincinnati thirty two, but the Bengals defense
- 2:07Speaker 1: kept Dallas out of the end zone. Dalton ready for
- 2:10Speaker 1: the shotgun snap. He has the ball three step drop
- 2:12Speaker 1: bouncing in the pocket and Dalton will be pulled down.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He's gonna be sacked. Marcus Hunt polishes him off Sam
- 2:20Speaker 1: Sam Hubbard got to Andy Dalton first he did. The
- 2:23Speaker 1: Cowboys settled for a field goal in a three nothing lead.
- 2:27Speaker 1: After fumbling on the Bengals first drive, Giovanni Bernard was
- 2:30Speaker 1: replaced on their second by Trey Theon Williams. He had
- 2:34Speaker 1: three carries in one catch to help Cincinnati drive to
- 2:37Speaker 1: the edge of the red zone. Second down and fourth
- 2:39Speaker 1: at the twenty one of Dallas Alan and the gun
- 2:42Speaker 1: turns left, hands it off to Williams, goes Low loses
- 2:46Speaker 1: the ball scooped up by Dallas and the Cowboys are
- 2:49Speaker 1: racing it back the other way the thirty the twenty
- 2:53Speaker 1: the ten touchdown Dallas wow Alden Smith with a seventy
- 2:58Speaker 1: eight yards scooping score to give the Cowboys at ten
- 3:01Speaker 1: nothing lead without having to do anything on offense. How
- 3:05Speaker 1: did Zach Taylor feel about it? Stunned? I rate. I mean,
- 3:08Speaker 1: that's you give to team ten points right out the gate,
- 3:12Speaker 1: thought didn't even really have to take the field. Is
- 3:15Speaker 1: a disappointing start to the game. I couldn't feel better
- 3:18Speaker 1: at going into this game, and you know, to give
- 3:21Speaker 1: them ten points before they even have to do anything
- 3:24Speaker 1: is a disappointing way to start. On their third possession,
- 3:26Speaker 1: the Bengals tried a third running back, Samaj p Ryan,
- 3:30Speaker 1: but Taylor says that wasn't a response to the two fumbles. No,
- 3:34Speaker 1: we were pointing on rotating the running backs before the game,
- 3:36Speaker 1: so that that wasn't necessarily a product. Obviously, like you said,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Geo is very, very great with this ball security over
- 3:43Speaker 1: the course of his career. But our plan was to
- 3:46Speaker 1: rotate all three of those backs and with p Ryan in.
- 3:48Speaker 1: On drive number three, the Bengals drove to the Dallas
- 3:51Speaker 1: fifteen before deciding to go for it. On fourth down
- 3:55Speaker 1: and one, Alex Ericson, motioning toward the formation, lines up
- 3:59Speaker 1: as a wing to the left. Now he goes in
- 4:01Speaker 1: jet motion. They give it to Alex Rickson. He has
- 4:04Speaker 1: the first he fumbles the ball. Third fumble already for Cincinnati.
- 4:09Speaker 1: There's a pile at the thirteen yard line. The Cowboys
- 4:12Speaker 1: are celebrating. No signal from the officials, yet there it is.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Dallas recovers three drives, three lost fumbles. Here's linebacker Josh
- 4:23Speaker 1: Bynes on the Bengals error prone ways. It just sucks
- 4:27Speaker 1: because we're such We know for a fact we're a
- 4:29Speaker 1: better team than we played and put on film and
- 4:33Speaker 1: it just I mean it really it really no. You
- 4:38Speaker 1: put the work in. You got great guys in locker room.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I mean everybody's working, working so hard to just win,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and it's frustrating. You know, it's really really really really
- 4:51Speaker 1: really really frustrating. I counted seven reelis in front of
- 4:54Speaker 1: the word frustrated. After Alex Rickson's fumble, Dallas put together
- 4:59Speaker 1: an eight the eight yard drive that included four third
- 5:03Speaker 1: down conversions. The Cowboys habit at the Cincinnati eleven. Dalton
- 5:07Speaker 1: drops back to throw fires a pass toward the end zone.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Amari Cooper comes up with a football for a Cowboys
- 5:14Speaker 1: touchdown that made it seventeen nothing. Midway through the second quarter,
- 5:18Speaker 1: on their fourth drive of the day, the Bengals finally
- 5:21Speaker 1: didn't fumble. In fact, they held down to the ball
- 5:25Speaker 1: for sixteen plays and found the end zone. Brandon Allen
- 5:28Speaker 1: drops back to throw fires a pass spot by j Green.
- 5:32Speaker 1: He ran a slant. It was a bullet a frozen
- 5:36Speaker 1: rope by Brandon Allen, and aj Green hauls in his
- 5:40Speaker 1: second touchdown catch up the season. It comes with eight
- 5:44Speaker 1: seconds left in the half that made it seventeen seven.
- 5:47Speaker 1: At the half as aj Green caught passes for the
- 5:50Speaker 1: first time in three weeks. He finished with six grabs
- 5:53Speaker 1: for sixty two yards, including his sixty fifth career touchdown
- 5:58Speaker 1: that leaves AJJ one behind Chad Johnson's franchise record. AJ
- 6:04Speaker 1: what means more to records or wins? Man winnings? You know,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I already had the records. I had big years and
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, I think twenty fifteen when we were winning,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it wasn't my best year, Stat's wife, But we're winning. Um,
- 6:18Speaker 1: I think that makes everything much easier. Um when you win,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and I'm at a point in my career where you know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: it's not about the money, it's not about you know,
- 6:27Speaker 1: with all the stats, and it's just about having fun again,
- 6:29Speaker 1: you know, playing football and that's the only thing you
- 6:32Speaker 1: can do for that is to win. And it's stuff.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But like I said, man, I'm the guy that stays
- 6:38Speaker 1: level and keep working each week. What it's going to
- 6:41Speaker 1: be the number one factor when it comes down to
- 6:43Speaker 1: deciding if you want to stay in Cincinnati moving forward.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I don't know, man, I, like I said, I got
- 6:49Speaker 1: a small circle. Um, so you know, my wife, my family, UM,
- 6:53Speaker 1: my boys, we don't sit down and make the best decision.
- 6:58Speaker 1: That's school, you know, best for my career, and right
- 7:02Speaker 1: now we don't know what that looked like right now,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but we prepared for anything. The Bengals hadn't scored in
- 7:06Speaker 1: the third quarter in their previous five games, and that
- 7:10Speaker 1: street continued against Dallas. A Cowboys field goal made it
- 7:14Speaker 1: twenty to seven going to the fourth quarter. A thirteen
- 7:18Speaker 1: point deaf is it obviously isn't insurmountable, and the Bengals
- 7:21Speaker 1: scored a touchdown on a thirteen yard run by p
- 7:24Speaker 1: Rhyme with eight forty six to go. Unfortunately, it was
- 7:28Speaker 1: wiped out by a holding penalty on Quentin Spain, a
- 7:32Speaker 1: penalty the Bengals were not able to overcome. So this
- 7:36Speaker 1: could be the game right here. Fourth down in seven
- 7:38Speaker 1: at the Dallas ten, with the Bengals trailing by thirteen
- 7:42Speaker 1: points seven twenty nine on the clock. Three receivers left
- 7:45Speaker 1: aj Green alone out to the right. Brandon Allen extends
- 7:48Speaker 1: the hands, catches the shotgun, snap throws it into the
- 7:51Speaker 1: back left corner of the end zone and almost threw
- 7:54Speaker 1: it into the stands. That's how badly he overthrew Tyler
- 7:59Speaker 1: Boyd in the act left corner of the end zone
- 8:01Speaker 1: and the Cowboys will take over on downs. Brandon Allen
- 8:05Speaker 1: played well, throwing for two hundred and seventeen yards with
- 8:07Speaker 1: a passer rating of ninety nine, but on that drive
- 8:11Speaker 1: he bruised his knee on a scramble and was limping
- 8:14Speaker 1: pretty badly on the final ten plays of the drive.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Alan did not finish the game. You know, just one
- 8:20Speaker 1: of those sames. Things just got hit right in the
- 8:22Speaker 1: right spot, and you know a lot of times you
- 8:25Speaker 1: just walk it off. It gets better, it gets better,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and so I tried to stay out there and walk
- 8:29Speaker 1: it off and kind of just kept getting tighter and
- 8:32Speaker 1: tighter instead. So now it's obviously affecting me a little
- 8:37Speaker 1: bit on some of the throws. It's hard to really
- 8:39Speaker 1: get any weight into the throws. And you know, we
- 8:42Speaker 1: checked it out. Didn't want to. I don't want to
- 8:45Speaker 1: hinder our offense. Um if I wasn't able to perform
- 8:49Speaker 1: the lagging perform. So was that part of the situation
- 8:53Speaker 1: on the fourth down play when when the ball sailed
- 8:56Speaker 1: on you a little bit, was it you just couldn't
- 8:57Speaker 1: transfer your weight. Right now, I'm not gonna blame it
- 9:01Speaker 1: on that obviously, you know, just a poor, poor decision,
- 9:06Speaker 1: poor throw. You know, I knew it was fourth down,
- 9:09Speaker 1: trying to give TV a chance in the back the
- 9:11Speaker 1: end zone, but yeah, bald definitely just got away from me,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and the game quickly got away from the Bengals. A
- 9:17Speaker 1: fifty five yard field goal by Greg the leg zerline
- 9:20Speaker 1: made a twenty three to seven, and a five yard
- 9:23Speaker 1: touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to Tony Pollard on fourth
- 9:27Speaker 1: and one with two minutes to go made the final
- 9:30Speaker 1: score thirty to seven. It was a memorable day for
- 9:33Speaker 1: the Red Rifle. He went sixteen for twenty three for
- 9:37Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty five yards, with two touchdowns, no picks,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and a passer rating of one twenty two point six.
- 9:44Speaker 1: After each touchdown, he looked toward his wife JJ in
- 9:47Speaker 1: a luxury suite and they gave each other the sign
- 9:50Speaker 1: language symbol for I love you. Here's AJ green. It
- 9:55Speaker 1: was so you're just to see him in that uniform
- 9:58Speaker 1: with those colors. You know, Andy and my relationship are
- 10:02Speaker 1: just bigger than is bigger than football. So just watching
- 10:05Speaker 1: them what they're you know, watching them have to sussiest
- 10:08Speaker 1: study having um, you know, you know, our wife set
- 10:10Speaker 1: together in the boxes the day, so, um, I was
- 10:14Speaker 1: especially it's weird, but I was happy for him that
- 10:17Speaker 1: he's he's he's getting a starting job and show people
- 10:20Speaker 1: what you can do. The Cowboys improved to four and
- 10:22Speaker 1: nine with the win. They're two games behind Washington in
- 10:25Speaker 1: the NFC East, as the football team followed up a
- 10:29Speaker 1: win over the Steelers by beating the forty nine ers
- 10:32Speaker 1: on Sunday. Washington is one four straight. The Bengals, out
- 10:36Speaker 1: of the other hand, have lost five straight to fall
- 10:39Speaker 1: to two ten and one, their third straight season with
- 10:43Speaker 1: double digit losses. Here are Sam Hubbard and Zach Taylor
- 10:47Speaker 1: just exhausting. You know, you do, uh everything right during
- 10:50Speaker 1: the week, practice hard, and uh you know, no reward
- 10:54Speaker 1: and uh, you know, just weighs on you. And it's
- 10:57Speaker 1: been going on for a while now. It's just pretty pretty.
- 11:00Speaker 1: When you lose, it's frustrating, you know, and it's it's
- 11:03Speaker 1: hard to get rid of this feeling, um that we feel,
- 11:07Speaker 1: you know, at the end of every week. Right now,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's frustrating because um, we feel good about the position
- 11:12Speaker 1: we're about to put ourselves in. And then you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: it's a myriad of reasons that or why we lose
- 11:17Speaker 1: and ultimately one hundred percent falls on me, one hundred percent,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you know, and it's Um, it's just frustrating. It's really frustrating.
- 11:24Speaker 1: A lot of effort goes into this, Um, guys pulling together. Um,
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's still a very close team. I think you can
- 11:30Speaker 1: see that as you see them out there playing. We
- 11:32Speaker 1: just haven't made the plays that that put us in
- 11:34Speaker 1: a position to win the game. And and it just
- 11:37Speaker 1: it makes you sick to start the way that we
- 11:39Speaker 1: started today. You know, as good as you feel walking
- 11:41Speaker 1: out of that locker room at pre game, UM, you're
- 11:43Speaker 1: sick to your stomach when you start with three straight
- 11:46Speaker 1: fumbles to start the game. It's just it's a it's
- 11:49Speaker 1: a very difficult way to play football. Zach. You mentioned
- 11:52Speaker 1: frustrating a lot. Um just when when you look at
- 11:55Speaker 1: your record on paper as a head coach, that did
- 11:59Speaker 1: you start to worry about job security when you get
- 12:01Speaker 1: near the end of the season. No, I just want
- 12:03Speaker 1: to win a football game. That's it. And I love
- 12:05Speaker 1: going to work with these guys every day and that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: that's all that matters to me. Is how do we
- 12:10Speaker 1: get ready in seven days to go win a game.
- 12:12Speaker 1: That is one hundred percent our focus. Don't worry about
- 12:16Speaker 1: anything else. It's this is too important for us. We
- 12:18Speaker 1: want to win so badly, and we're just going to
- 12:21Speaker 1: continue to work and find ways to great those wins.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Sunday's loss did make it more likely that the Bengals
- 12:27Speaker 1: will have a top three draft pick next year. They
- 12:30Speaker 1: would have to win two of their final three games
- 12:33Speaker 1: to fall in the draft order. Now time for postgame
- 12:36Speaker 1: analysis with my broadcast partner Dave Lapham Lap. That was
- 12:40Speaker 1: rough and it started early. Second play from scrimmage, Giovanni
- 12:44Speaker 1: Bernard fumbled on a running play for the first time
- 12:46Speaker 1: since his rookie year. Game five of his rookie year.
- 12:49Speaker 1: He had carried nearly eight hundred and thirty times on
- 12:52Speaker 1: running plays without fumbling. I guess when that happens, did
- 12:55Speaker 1: Giovanni Bernard? You know, you know you might be in
- 12:58Speaker 1: for a long day. I'll tell you, you know. I think,
- 13:01Speaker 1: as they say, it comes in bunches. I think what
- 13:03Speaker 1: had happened to Geo? It was the fumble virus instead
- 13:07Speaker 1: of the coronavirus. I mean it infected the team, and uh,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know then then guys, Alex Rickson's a sure handed guy.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But I give Dallas credit. Put the helmet right on
- 13:16Speaker 1: the football. That's a tough deal. A guy made a
- 13:18Speaker 1: good play. He made a good play. Alex Rickson fumbles
- 13:20Speaker 1: the football. I feel sorry for Williams. I mean, I
- 13:24Speaker 1: don't know what Hakima Denergy was thinking. Pulls around and
- 13:27Speaker 1: he stops, stops in the hole. I mean, if you're
- 13:29Speaker 1: you don't block air, if there's nothing there, get through
- 13:31Speaker 1: the hole and get up to the next level and
- 13:33Speaker 1: block something. And Williams, basically a Dentergy forced that fumble,
- 13:38Speaker 1: and a dnergy never played the rest of the game,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and Williams was running hard. It's unfortunate that that took place.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So that just tells you the football gods today we're saying,
- 13:48Speaker 1: not happening. You're gonna You're gonna fumble three times on
- 13:51Speaker 1: your first three possessions. I do not recall ever seeing
- 13:56Speaker 1: that happen before. I think that's the first and I've
- 13:58Speaker 1: seen a lot of games, high school, college and pro games,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and I can't remember it. Three straight possessions. Basically, they
- 14:08Speaker 1: went a whole quarter and ten seconds into another quarter
- 14:11Speaker 1: and said we don't really want to keep the football,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know, the other team can have it. And with
- 14:15Speaker 1: a team like this that's struggling offensively, that has little
- 14:19Speaker 1: or no margin for error, are you kidding me to
- 14:21Speaker 1: do that? That's self destruction and its utmost I know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've seen turnovers on the first three possessions, but it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: a mix, an interception of fumble, maybe you know, two
- 14:31Speaker 1: of one one or the other. I've never seen three
- 14:33Speaker 1: fumbles in a row on the first three possessions. That
- 14:36Speaker 1: was awful. My gut instinct is, you know, when I
- 14:40Speaker 1: see that happen, I think, well, like fumbles, that's a
- 14:42Speaker 1: discipline thing, it's bad coaching. And then I look up
- 14:46Speaker 1: the numbers. The Rams have fumbled ten times this year,
- 14:50Speaker 1: the Saints have fumbled nine times, or the eight times
- 14:53Speaker 1: the Bills have fumbled nine times this year. Three of
- 14:55Speaker 1: the best teams in the NFL they've fumbled. So I
- 14:59Speaker 1: don't blame it on the coaching staff. It's impossible to
- 15:04Speaker 1: do that with Giovanni Bernard. Unfortunately. That's the kind of
- 15:07Speaker 1: stuff that happens when you are struggling and have no
- 15:11Speaker 1: margin of error. That's the big thing. No margin fair
- 15:14Speaker 1: and you can't score, you know, I mean, you you
- 15:18Speaker 1: just can't give teams opportunities like that, and it falls
- 15:22Speaker 1: into that fine line before of playing not to lose
- 15:26Speaker 1: or plan to win, you know, and it's like do
- 15:29Speaker 1: I do I overprotect? And sometimes when you overprotect, it
- 15:32Speaker 1: can be a problem with the football. But I mean
- 15:34Speaker 1: that that ball security issue, I thought I thought it
- 15:36Speaker 1: was going to be a factor in the bengals favor.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Coming into the game, Dallas had lost lost thirteen fumbles,
- 15:42Speaker 1: had fumbled it nineteen times, and it lost thirteen of them.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Thirteen lost fumbles led the league. Now the Cincinnati Bengals
- 15:50Speaker 1: have thirteen. They're right there with them, and they've only
- 15:53Speaker 1: gotten three. That minus ten funnel ratio worse than the
- 15:57Speaker 1: National Football League. They've thrown interceptions and they've gotten nine interceptions.
- 16:02Speaker 1: They're even in interceptions, minus ten in fumbles. I mean,
- 16:07Speaker 1: that's that speaks volumes. I'm looking at that and then
- 16:10Speaker 1: the other stat that is, you know significant, they're at
- 16:14Speaker 1: least minus eleven. They came into the game minus ten
- 16:16Speaker 1: and touchdowns in the red zone and I think Dallas
- 16:18Speaker 1: scored two when they scored one. So now I think
- 16:21Speaker 1: they're minus eleven in touchdowns in the red zone. That's
- 16:24Speaker 1: at the bottom of the league, when you have fumble
- 16:26Speaker 1: ratio differential at the bottom of the league, touchdowns in
- 16:31Speaker 1: the red zone, when the field compresses near the bottom
- 16:33Speaker 1: of the league, and now you're starting to get trends
- 16:36Speaker 1: of they're just not good enough, they're just not getting
- 16:38Speaker 1: it done. Andy Dalton had to feel like it was
- 16:41Speaker 1: twenty and fifteen all over again. He played well, but
- 16:45Speaker 1: didn't have to do that much through for one hundred
- 16:47Speaker 1: and eighty five yards, two touchdowns, no picks, one of
- 16:50Speaker 1: the touchdown passes with a terrific throw pass, the rating
- 16:53Speaker 1: of one twenty two point six. But this was like
- 16:55Speaker 1: that twenty fifteen season he broke his thumb when the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Bengals had at ten and two record. At that point,
- 17:01Speaker 1: the Bengals led the NFL in scoring defense. They were
- 17:04Speaker 1: averaging nearly twenty eight points a game. He had a
- 17:07Speaker 1: passer rating of one oh six. This was just like
- 17:11Speaker 1: twenty fifteen, except he is standing on the opposite sideline. Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 1: it was. I admit it was odd to see him
- 17:18Speaker 1: in Dallas colors, you know, it really was. I think
- 17:20Speaker 1: it accentuated the red hair even more because with the
- 17:23Speaker 1: orange uniform and the Bengals unity kind of like mutes it.
- 17:26Speaker 1: But man, when you're you're wearing blue and silver and
- 17:29Speaker 1: all of a sudden there's that big old swats of
- 17:33Speaker 1: orange red hair as such, and even accentuates more. But
- 17:38Speaker 1: I think obviously he's got a receiving core that's pretty
- 17:40Speaker 1: darn good. He really does. And I do think that,
- 17:44Speaker 1: like we're talking about earlier in the day, AJ and
- 17:47Speaker 1: Andy made each other better, and I think AJ appreciates
- 17:51Speaker 1: Andy for that, and I think Andy appreciates AJ for that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: That was like, you know, the old peanut butter and jelly.
- 17:56Speaker 1: They're good apart, they're better together. And that's what those
- 17:58Speaker 1: two guys were like. And I hope, you know, Joe
- 18:01Speaker 1: Burrow and t Higgins start to form the same type
- 18:04Speaker 1: of thing. I mean, they're good at part, they're better together.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And hopefully they're going to have big seasons like Andy
- 18:09Speaker 1: Dalton AJ Green did. Obviously they're not going to go
- 18:11Speaker 1: to the playoffs in their rookie years like those two
- 18:13Speaker 1: guys did, but might as well start in year two,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, and start to build on something and see
- 18:18Speaker 1: if it works out that way. But you know, and
- 18:21Speaker 1: Andy Dalton is a guy that that you can win
- 18:25Speaker 1: football games with you really can win a lot of
- 18:27Speaker 1: football games with Andy Dalton. You mentioned it more than once,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you know, during during the broadcast, and that, you know,
- 18:35Speaker 1: fifty and twenty five, fifty twenty five and one, he
- 18:38Speaker 1: had won two games for every loss before breaking his
- 18:41Speaker 1: thumb before breaking stumb, seventy six games played before breaking stump,
- 18:45Speaker 1: fifty wins, twenty five losses in the tie with today's loss,
- 18:49Speaker 1: the Bengals now since that period, they're almost two losses
- 18:54Speaker 1: for every win. It's exactly that. Fifty four losses, twenty
- 18:56Speaker 1: seven wins and a couple of times just turns it around.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you just turn the whole scenario around.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So they're a five hundred football team in that span,
- 19:06Speaker 1: and it's like before fracture after fracture. And that tells
- 19:10Speaker 1: you that when you have a healthy Andy Dalton who
- 19:15Speaker 1: can execute your offense, you can win football games if
- 19:19Speaker 1: you have any kind of a defensive football team and
- 19:22Speaker 1: special teams that aren't killing you. But the Bengals right
- 19:26Speaker 1: now offensively, with with you know, Brandon at quarterback, it's like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: just don't screw it up. What he didn't screw it up?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Three straight fumbles three straight possessions. I mean, you know,
- 19:39Speaker 1: you give up short field sixteen yards. Field goal defense
- 19:43Speaker 1: is a good job, you know, they minimize the damage.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Then you're going you're approaching the red zone fumbling and
- 19:49Speaker 1: they take it back seventy plus for a touchdown. Are
- 19:51Speaker 1: you kidding me? I mean, down down ten, nothing and
- 19:55Speaker 1: they've got sixteen yards and you've got over one hundred
- 19:58Speaker 1: yards offense. You have no points and they've got sixteen.
- 20:01Speaker 1: They got ten on the board. That that kind of
- 20:03Speaker 1: stuff is just you just it makes you. It makes
- 20:06Speaker 1: you queasy, makes you football sick. Really, it's a dream
- 20:10Speaker 1: come true kind of day for Andy Dalton, and at
- 20:12Speaker 1: least statistically, it was a pretty good day for aj Green.
- 20:16Speaker 1: He can't be happy with a thirty to seven loss,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but targeted seven times, six catches, sixty two yards and
- 20:22Speaker 1: a touchdown, his second touchdown catch of the year. He's
- 20:24Speaker 1: now one shy of Chad Johnson's all time franchise record.
- 20:28Speaker 1: But it was interesting listening to aj Green after the game.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Asked numerous questions about his future, and while he didn't
- 20:35Speaker 1: come right out and say this is the end of
- 20:38Speaker 1: my time in Cincinnati, it's certainly felt like that's what
- 20:42Speaker 1: he was implying. Yeah, I mean I think that that
- 20:45Speaker 1: he's thinking, Okay, they'll give me eighteen million dollars almost
- 20:49Speaker 1: this year, you know, and or maybe you've sent a
- 20:51Speaker 1: little more on camera. It's seventeen point whatever or eighteen
- 20:54Speaker 1: point whatever. But it's a lot as a franchise tagged receiver.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So at that point, unless the Bengals tag him again,
- 21:02Speaker 1: which I don't think they're going to do, no question,
- 21:04Speaker 1: they're not going to do that, I think at that
- 21:08Speaker 1: point in time, he'll be testing the market and it
- 21:10Speaker 1: might be back here in Cincinnati, it might be elsewhere.
- 21:13Speaker 1: He realizes that. So I don't think he's gonna, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: no skin is gonna come off his nose about it
- 21:20Speaker 1: until he has to start to go through that process.
- 21:22Speaker 1: But I do think that part part if you can't
- 21:26Speaker 1: help but start to reflect back because it could be
- 21:29Speaker 1: coming close to the very end of his career here
- 21:32Speaker 1: in Cincinnati. And I do think, you know, watching him
- 21:36Speaker 1: in the early stages of some football games here when
- 21:39Speaker 1: he was shut out no targets or one target, no catch,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he would win early, and then when he didn't get
- 21:47Speaker 1: the football, he get really frustrated about it. You could
- 21:49Speaker 1: see it in his body language. Did he get very
- 21:51Speaker 1: frustrated that he wasn't getting it when he was winning?
- 21:53Speaker 1: And the fact that he won early in this football
- 21:55Speaker 1: game and he got the football early, I think helped him.
- 21:58Speaker 1: And then you know, when they lined up in the
- 22:01Speaker 1: way they lined up in the red zone, you thought
- 22:03Speaker 1: there might be a touchdown possibility for aj Green and
- 22:06Speaker 1: Brandon Allen saw the same thing and delivered it up.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Next a Monday night home game against the Steelers as
- 22:13Speaker 1: the Bengals try to end a streak of eleven consecutive
- 22:16Speaker 1: losses to Pittsburgh. The Bengals Booth Podcast is presented by
- 22:21Speaker 1: Bud Light Seltzer. It's light and refreshing with a hint
- 22:25Speaker 1: of fruit flavor. Now time for this week's fun Facts segment,
- 22:28Speaker 1: where you get to know the person under the pads.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Time for some fun facts with linebacker Logan Wilson from
- 22:35Speaker 1: the Cowboy State, Wyoming, more specifically Casper, Wyoming. Logan, I'm
- 22:41Speaker 1: guessing that most of the people in our audience have
- 22:43Speaker 1: never been to Casper. Described your hometown. It will be
- 22:48Speaker 1: what we would call the windy city of Wyoming. Although
- 22:51Speaker 1: Wyoming is very windy, as a state. Caspers one of
- 22:54Speaker 1: the windier cities in Wyoming. We are the second biggest
- 22:58Speaker 1: city in wo behind Cheyenne, of about sixty thousand people,
- 23:02Speaker 1: So not very big by any means, but definitely big
- 23:05Speaker 1: for a wyomingtown. So sixty thousand is not exactly tiny. Obviously.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Did you grow up in a neighborhood with quite a
- 23:13Speaker 1: few other families or did you have a lot of property.
- 23:16Speaker 1: We grew up in a neighborhood, you know. I lived
- 23:19Speaker 1: about I think it was like two or three blocks
- 23:21Speaker 1: from my elementary school, so I used to walk to
- 23:23Speaker 1: elementary school, and then I went to Junior High on
- 23:27Speaker 1: the west side. I lived on the west side of
- 23:28Speaker 1: Casper and kind of grew up with all those people
- 23:31Speaker 1: and then went to high school sports with those guys
- 23:34Speaker 1: as well. And then I was lucky enough to play
- 23:36Speaker 1: college football with one of my high school friends that
- 23:38Speaker 1: I grew up with. Since I moved to Casper, I
- 23:41Speaker 1: wasn't born in Casper. I was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota,
- 23:45Speaker 1: and then I lived in Cody for a little bit
- 23:46Speaker 1: prior to moving to Casper. We're doing fun facts with
- 23:50Speaker 1: Logan Wilson. I understand that your dad was an accomplished
- 23:53Speaker 1: college wrestler. He is in the Dickinson State University Hall
- 23:57Speaker 1: of Fame. Is that where your love of sports came? Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: my dad was. He pushed me to be not only
- 24:04Speaker 1: a good athlete, but also a great student. Um. And
- 24:07Speaker 1: I think that the thing that my dad always did
- 24:10Speaker 1: was he never let me settle for anything I ever
- 24:13Speaker 1: achieved or anything I ever underachieved. You know, whatever, if
- 24:17Speaker 1: I got any awards or any successes, is his mottel
- 24:20Speaker 1: was always that's great, now keep working hard. But he
- 24:23Speaker 1: would always reiterate that keep working hard mentality. And I
- 24:25Speaker 1: think that that's probably, you know, something that he learned
- 24:28Speaker 1: along his athletic career, and um, he definitely instilled that
- 24:31Speaker 1: in me. When did you begin dreaming of a career
- 24:35Speaker 1: in pro football? What's funny is a lot of people
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't know, is I never even wanted to play tackle
- 24:40Speaker 1: football when I was little. I enjoyed playing flag football
- 24:43Speaker 1: better than I did worrying about contact stuff. And then
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know, the more I played it, the more my
- 24:49Speaker 1: love for the game grew. And I think really once
- 24:52Speaker 1: I got to college into my second or third year,
- 24:55Speaker 1: is when I realized I might have an opportunity to
- 24:57Speaker 1: play into the in the NFL, and I just kind
- 25:01Speaker 1: of let it take care of itself. You know, I
- 25:03Speaker 1: never really worried about it. UM, never really stressed about it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Just kind of focused on what was in front of
- 25:08Speaker 1: me at the time. And here I am. We're chatting
- 25:11Speaker 1: with Logan Wilson. Your high school is the alma mater
- 25:15Speaker 1: a former US Vice President Dick Cheney. Is there a
- 25:18Speaker 1: big Dick Cheney display at your alma mater? And is
- 25:22Speaker 1: that a big point of pride for students that went there.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Our high school stadium is called Cheney Alumni Field, So yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: there's that's It's pretty cool. UM having that background, knowing
- 25:34Speaker 1: someone like that on that level of um social status,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you know, UM that has gone to our high school
- 25:41Speaker 1: is really cool and really unique. You know, not a
- 25:42Speaker 1: lot of high schools across the country. You're able to
- 25:44Speaker 1: say that. From there, it was on to the University
- 25:47Speaker 1: of Wyoming and Laramie, about one hundred and fifty miles
- 25:50Speaker 1: from home. Was it always your dream to play for
- 25:53Speaker 1: the Brown and Gold. Yeah, for me, it was. UM.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I had an offer from we were State early on
- 25:58Speaker 1: in my recruiting, but ultimately I wanted to play at
- 26:02Speaker 1: the University of Wyoming. Um. You know, they had just
- 26:04Speaker 1: gotten a new coach in Craig Bowl and who's still
- 26:06Speaker 1: there right now at the time, and he just seemed
- 26:10Speaker 1: like a really good guy to play for. And as
- 26:12Speaker 1: a Wyoming kid, you you kind of grow up with
- 26:14Speaker 1: the dreaming about the opportunity of representing the Brown and Gold.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Because a lot of people don't realize that Wyoming, the
- 26:20Speaker 1: University of Wyoming is our only in state university and
- 26:24Speaker 1: it's kind of like Wyoming's ProTeam. So the whole state
- 26:26Speaker 1: rallies behind all the athletics at University of Wyoming, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: I think that that's what makes the University of Wyoming
- 26:32Speaker 1: so unique. What was the best part of your college experience?
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean, really all of it. You know, I wouldn't
- 26:39Speaker 1: be where I am today without anything that ever happened.
- 26:42Speaker 1: But I think that one of the best parts about
- 26:45Speaker 1: playing college football was just kind of getting to know
- 26:48Speaker 1: people from all sorts of different backgrounds. You know, we
- 26:50Speaker 1: had guys from California, Texas, Colorado, Nebraska. I mean, there's
- 26:55Speaker 1: people from pretty much everywhere Florida that come to the
- 26:59Speaker 1: University of Wyoming and don't get me wrong. The University
- 27:01Speaker 1: of Wyomings Town is not like a it's it's a
- 27:04Speaker 1: college town, is the best way to say it. Um.
- 27:06Speaker 1: You know, I think there's thirty thousand plus people. That's
- 27:09Speaker 1: including the student population, so it's not very big by
- 27:14Speaker 1: any means, and so it's not for everyone. Plus, it
- 27:16Speaker 1: gets really cold, and a lot of people don't like
- 27:17Speaker 1: to play in the cold. So it's very unique. And
- 27:20Speaker 1: I think that that's what was really cool is everyone
- 27:22Speaker 1: kind of bonded coming there for that one ultimate goal
- 27:26Speaker 1: to win some football games. So your college teammates for
- 27:30Speaker 1: three years included Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.
- 27:34Speaker 1: How excited are you to see the success he's having
- 27:37Speaker 1: in the NFL. I love seeing it. I love seeing
- 27:41Speaker 1: any any one of my former teammates and having the
- 27:44Speaker 1: success that they do. But him, specifically, to be the
- 27:47Speaker 1: highest draft at Wyoming University of Wyoming football player we've
- 27:50Speaker 1: ever had and to be representing not only himself but
- 27:54Speaker 1: the University of Wyoming and the way he has been
- 27:56Speaker 1: doing is very awesome for our state. You know, our
- 28:00Speaker 1: state loves him. He's represented it with class, and you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: we just he's just one of those kids that you
- 28:06Speaker 1: would wish nothing but successful. So you were a defensive
- 28:10Speaker 1: back in high school and put out about fifty pounds
- 28:13Speaker 1: to be an outstanding linebacker in college? How did you
- 28:16Speaker 1: gain the weight? Didn't happen overnight. It was a process
- 28:20Speaker 1: for sure, you know. I got to the University of
- 28:22Speaker 1: Whiming at about one hundred and ninety five pounds and
- 28:26Speaker 1: just kind of took a day by day. And by
- 28:29Speaker 1: the time I was playing, after I read shirted, I
- 28:31Speaker 1: was my ret shirt. Freshman year, I think I was
- 28:33Speaker 1: about two fifteen, and then my sophomore year, I was
- 28:37Speaker 1: about two thirty. Then my junior year, I was about
- 28:42Speaker 1: two fifty, and then my senior year I was about
- 28:44Speaker 1: back down to two forty. But it was just kind
- 28:47Speaker 1: of a process. Have eaten eaten right way. You're not
- 28:51Speaker 1: trying to put on bad weight and stuff that fat
- 28:54Speaker 1: that's going to slow you down. It's I worked with
- 28:56Speaker 1: my nutritionists and it was just a long process. But
- 29:01Speaker 1: Coach Bull's whole programs about developing developing kids. You know,
- 29:06Speaker 1: we're not gonna recruit the We're not going to get
- 29:09Speaker 1: those five star kids who have already you know they're
- 29:11Speaker 1: ready to go in and play right away, and so
- 29:13Speaker 1: they have the tools available at the University of Wyming.
- 29:17Speaker 1: It's just a matter of whether or not you use
- 29:18Speaker 1: them correctly. Were there are a ton of protein shakes?
- 29:21Speaker 1: Were you eating peanut butter and jelly before you went
- 29:24Speaker 1: to bed. I've heard stories of guys that, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 1: had to do whatever it took to keep some of
- 29:30Speaker 1: that weight on. Yeah, I mean it was a lot
- 29:33Speaker 1: of protein shakes, for sure, protein shakes at night when
- 29:38Speaker 1: you're full. You had the pound one just to just
- 29:41Speaker 1: to be able to maintain that weight. It was just
- 29:43Speaker 1: kind of a sacrifice, so to say, you kind of
- 29:45Speaker 1: have to stretch your stomach so that you could hold
- 29:48Speaker 1: down that food. You were the first pick of the
- 29:51Speaker 1: third round in the twenty twenty NFL Draft. Describe your
- 29:55Speaker 1: draft experience. Not what I expected, so to say, in
- 29:59Speaker 1: terms of COVID and you know, not being able to
- 30:01Speaker 1: go kind of be in Vegas for the draft and
- 30:04Speaker 1: celebrate with my family. So but that was something that's
- 30:08Speaker 1: out of my control and I enjoyed it every moment
- 30:10Speaker 1: of it, being with my family and Casper. It was
- 30:13Speaker 1: a very opportunity of a lifetime and very thankful it happened,
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know, it was just it's surreal and like, I think,
- 30:22Speaker 1: the best way I described it is, I was I
- 30:24Speaker 1: couldn't describe it. There's just so many emotions that went
- 30:27Speaker 1: through your head, you know, and it's just kind of
- 30:30Speaker 1: I think that's just the nature of having this opportunity,
- 30:33Speaker 1: this lifelong dream that so many kids dream about doing,
- 30:35Speaker 1: and you actually having it right in front of you
- 30:37Speaker 1: and just trying to take the take advantage of it.
- 30:40Speaker 1: A few more fun facts for Logan Wilson. Who is
- 30:42Speaker 1: your all time favorite athlete in any sport? I don't know.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Growing up, I was a because I was in Wyoming,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I was. I grew up a Broncos fan, so I
- 30:52Speaker 1: was a huge Champ Bailey fan because I also played
- 30:55Speaker 1: defensive back. I never played lineback until I got to college,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but I would probably a Jam Bailey. What do you
- 31:01Speaker 1: like to spend your money on? You know, I'm pretty
- 31:04Speaker 1: smart about my money, um, and I'm stingy so to
- 31:08Speaker 1: say in a way, UM, I usually like to spend
- 31:12Speaker 1: my money on my dogs, my girlfriend, and um, maybe
- 31:17Speaker 1: some clothes here and there that i'd like to to get.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So I like to help people around me as well
- 31:22Speaker 1: when when needed dogs plural. Yes, we just got we
- 31:27Speaker 1: just got another puppy. So we have a Golden rechiever
- 31:29Speaker 1: and a German shepherd. What is your guilty pleasure when
- 31:34Speaker 1: it comes to food? What do you have a hard
- 31:36Speaker 1: time saying? No? Too salty sweets like a salted caramel. Oh,
- 31:43Speaker 1: that's that's a tough one to pass up. How about it?
- 31:46Speaker 1: Take five? If you had to take five? I haven't
- 31:49Speaker 1: in a while. Have you ever had to watch McCall? Yeah?
- 31:53Speaker 1: Those things are good too. Yeah, I like the combo
- 31:56Speaker 1: of salt and sweet. I'm with you, Yes, that's why
- 31:59Speaker 1: I like to take five. It's got the pretzel hidden
- 32:01Speaker 1: in the candy bar. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm with you
- 32:03Speaker 1: on that. All right. Final fun fact for Logan Wilson.
- 32:07Speaker 1: If you could meet anybody in history, athlete, entertainer, statesman, whatever,
- 32:15Speaker 1: who would that be? I would say the Rock, the Rock, Yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 1: for the wrestling or the acting, I would say the acting.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And this is the way that he handles his business
- 32:30Speaker 1: like he's always it seems like he's always in the
- 32:32Speaker 1: weight room managing all of his acting stuff whatever, you know,
- 32:36Speaker 1: whatever he's got going on in his life, he always
- 32:38Speaker 1: seems to find a way to I don't know. That's
- 32:40Speaker 1: also from a social media perspective, of course, but he
- 32:44Speaker 1: just seems like a very down to earth dude. I
- 32:45Speaker 1: also know a guy who was on the Titan Games
- 32:48Speaker 1: and so who got to be He actually to meet
- 32:50Speaker 1: him and he said he's a very down to earth guy,
- 32:52Speaker 1: which is which is awesome. I like, I really enjoy
- 32:54Speaker 1: being around people like that. So well, the Rock was
- 32:57Speaker 1: a college football player at the University of Miami, so
- 33:00Speaker 1: a similar career could be in your future. Something I
- 33:04Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know how well I do it acting,
- 33:06Speaker 1: but you know, we never know. We'll see. All right,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're off the hot seat. I appreciate your time. Best
- 33:12Speaker 1: to luck the rest of the year. Thank you very much.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Here's a quick reminder to join Lap and Lance McAlister
