- 0:01Jeff Legwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five Pro Football,
- 0:07The insider I've covered Jeff leg Wall. His appearances are always must listen radio.
- 0:13You learn a lot. He's leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five.
- 0:19Unfairly dated. Yeah, like somebody who just constantly gets criticism and you're
- 0:25like he's good though. Well, look, I would say all these young
- 0:29guys that we early evaluate. Zach Wilson in New York. You know we've
- 0:33got early evaluations on him. It happens all the time with ah, yeah,
- 0:43Easter eggs getting dropped all over the place. Jeff Legwald. Time here
- 0:47on a Monday afternoon. We are a mirror four days away from day number
- 0:53one of the NFL Draft, three days. I don't know, do the
- 0:55math, however it works out. It's Thursday. Uh, Jeff Legwald's top
- 0:59one is out. The Broncos have new clothes, The Broncos have a new
- 1:04quarterback, the Broncos have a new cornerback. It's been an eventful day around
- 1:07these parts. Jeff Legwald with us right now in the ramos Law Hotline.
- 1:11Car accident. You need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney visit ramos law dot
- 1:15com. Leggy, how you doing, man? I'm good. Are you
- 1:18guys doing good? Lad McConkie at twenty eight? What are you doing?
- 1:22Leggy? That's what I got. What's the most belong what's the most random
- 1:29anger that you have ever produced with the top one hundred of over or underrating
- 1:36a player? Oh? Annually, it's the quarterbacks. In fact, yesterday
- 1:42I just had somebody in the grocery store bust me about the quarterbacks. So
- 1:48I always take heat for the quarterbacks because I put them where they belong,
- 1:52where they're really graded, and people can't separate that from a mock draft type
- 1:57of situation. And that's okay and all that people will go. I once
- 2:01got like a ten thousand word email a bout a guy I had in the
- 2:06nineties and Marvin Jones. Who the hell was it? Yeah? No,
- 2:12I mean the person was wondering how I could possibly put them in the top
- 2:15one hundred. And it was the longest Uh. I don't think I've ever
- 2:20written a series of stories that long ever my career, but it was.
- 2:24It was a pretty epic email. But that's a long time ago. But
- 2:29when there weren't too many top one hundreds out there. So you went Bonix
- 2:32at thirty nine, you went Pennix at fifty with the the sort of lower
- 2:38tier quarterbacks there in this draft. The Bonicks question continues to be fascinating to
- 2:45meet Jeff because you rank him at thirty nine. Will he be drafted above
- 2:50or below that number? I think almost certainly above unless uh, you know,
- 2:57there's always the quirky way. Sometimes the board falls weird and and you
- 3:04know, you get the cluster of teams who don't need a quarterback and it
- 3:07just falls funny. But I I think he will be drafted before that.
- 3:13But I will tell you I've talked to gms who who you know, would
- 3:17say that's the that's in the area where he should be drafted. So and
- 3:23look, you know, you're essentially saying your guy is in the upper third
- 3:25of the second round. So it's not like you're saying he can't play football
- 3:30at all. It's just you know, you got to put him somewhere,
- 3:35and there's only thirty two slots in the first round, so U but he
- 3:38is he has the quirkiest mathematics of any prospect that quarterback I've seen in a
- 3:45long time. In terms of yards downfield, the ball actually goes in the
- 3:51air, and I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like his completion profile,
- 3:57and that is something teams are wrestling with. I'll be honest with you.
- 4:00Your colleague at ESPN, Jordan Reed, who I know you have a ton
- 4:03of respect for, put out his seven round mock draft today. I'm sure
- 4:08you saw it. It featured the Broncos trading down with Philadelphia to number twenty
- 4:13two and acquiring a second round pick along the way, which would be awfully
- 4:16nice, and the Broncos taking bow knicks there at that spot. Now,
- 4:20this was released this morning before the acquisition of Zach Wilson via trade with the
- 4:27New York Jets. Leggy, first off, what did you think of Jordan
- 4:30Reid's idea? And secondly, does the acquisition of Wilson then preclude the Broncos
- 4:39from doing such a move? Well, I advocate any trade down if you're
- 4:43going to take QB five on the board. I just you know, the
- 4:48fifth quarterback taken in the top twelve picks of a draft has only happened one
- 4:55time nineteen ninety nine. So to take QB five in the top twelve picks
- 5:02of the draft nuts to me, and I think I would advocate what Jordan
- 5:08is saying. If you're going to do it, if you just decided you
- 5:12like that quarterback, and you have a late first or an early second round
- 5:16grade, which at twenty two that could be an early second round grade for
- 5:19a lot of teams, then the trade down is the exact move. But
- 5:26Jordan works He works it man, he knows his stuff, and I think
- 5:30he's matching skill sets and situations to the prospects when you're doing that kind of
- 5:35exercise. So I think trade down, if you're going to do it,
- 5:40would be the move. And I don't think the Zach Wilson thing influences much
- 5:44of anything. Really. It was like a free it's a free acquisition.
- 5:47Essentially, the Jets are going to pay some or most of the salary and
- 5:55you essentially swapped picks. You didn't even fully give up draft pick to get
- 6:01a quarterback. You may or may not be able to, you know,
- 6:05to recalibrate. So I think that's as close to a waiver claim almost as
- 6:13you can come in the trade world to get a player who a team took
- 6:18with the second pick of the draft, so they obviously felt like he had
- 6:21an immense talent. So I think it's worth the flyer they're taken. And
- 6:29you know, now we will see Thursday if it means that. That means
- 6:34they take one of the seven or eight quarterbacks a little later in the middle
- 6:39rounds with a little insurance to work into it. But this does signify it.
- 6:46They don't maybe like the prices of the trade up and all that other
- 6:48stuff, doesn't it Legy, I mean, what does the Zach Wilson maybe
- 6:53say about their feelings on the class, if anything? I think I think
- 6:58just from being in that building a lot and talking to everyone a lot,
- 7:02I think it says they don't think QB four or QB five is worth the
- 7:10twelfth pick, and they'd like to stay at twelve and take a pretty damn
- 7:15good player that they need. So I think that's what this is. You
- 7:18know, we'll see Thursday if if it is indeed the case, But right
- 7:24now I think they believe, like a lot of people, at least three
- 7:30quarterbacks are getting overdrafted Thursday, and that means a bunch of players are a
- 7:36handful of players that will not be that will be underdrafted are going to come
- 7:42down the board in the first round, and if you can get the top
- 7:47one or two pass rushers at twelve, or the top one or two corners,
- 7:53or the top four or five receivers, why wouldn't you stay there and
- 8:00and get a player who would be talented enough to be a long term starter
- 8:05from the moment he walks in the building. So I think that this gives
- 8:11them a little more insurance to play the chalk, as it were, and
- 8:16just sit at twelve if you can't move, and you try and just take
- 8:22well, who will be a really good player, because again, at least
- 8:26two of the quarterbacks are getting overdrafted, so somebody else isn't all right?
- 8:31Real quickly, one more on the Zach Wilson moved. Do you think this
- 8:35gives him inside track to starter? I was asking Nate, they wanted to
- 8:39get a couple games. Look at Stidham. I mean, you know,
- 8:43Sean Payton's been a little bit different of his talking in the offseason about Stidham
- 8:46than he did, you know, last offseason. Shall we say, what
- 8:48do you think? What do you think the chances are without them drafting a
- 8:54first round QB that Zach maybe is the inside track on starting Andy. I
- 8:58think they got to a man and see how much work there is to be
- 9:03done here to repair I mean, his game is, he's got a lot
- 9:09of confidence issues. It shows up in his play, and there's a lot
- 9:13of work to be done on his part to get back to the level,
- 9:20at minimum of where he was when he came into the league. So I
- 9:24think they got to get a look up close and see what they think before
- 9:28we can say that. I think at minimum they see this as a competition
- 9:33and they'll throw him in the pool too and see who who you know,
- 9:39swims out to be the starter. Zach Wilson is in the pool. Jeff
- 9:43Legwald is on the show right now here on the Craig and Lindall Show at
- 9:46else Dude Sports Radio ninety two five. In addition to that, Leggy maybe
- 9:52kind of a bit of a footnote on the day given new uniforms, Zach
- 9:56Wilson all that. Levi Wallace was today by the Broncos, the unrestricted free
- 10:01agent from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Where does he fit into the plans there in
- 10:05the secondary? Well, I think he's you know, again, I will
- 10:11tell you they're very, very very optimistic about Riley Moss. So I think
- 10:15at minimum he's fighting it out and they have a like last year, they
- 10:20wanted a veteran in the in the house just in case. I mean,
- 10:26he's played a ton of games. He's a rare free agent for them this
- 10:31year, and that's he's started the majority of his games in his career.
- 10:35So I think this is a pretty good late free agency pickup of a guy
- 10:41who you know, I believe he's going to turn twenty nine in June,
- 10:45so he's still he's still in good prime playing years, so I think this
- 10:48gives him a little insurance. And again because they don't have that too,
- 10:52I think they're trying to cover their bases at some of the need spots.
- 10:56You know, they've signed a couple rotational tackles just in case. You know,
- 11:03they've signed a couple of defensive linemen just in case. So I think
- 11:09they're trying to do the best they can to cover their bases at need positions
- 11:18if they can't make anything happen at those positions on days one or two of
- 11:22the draft, and with No. Two, it's hard to make things happen
- 11:26on days one and two of the draft. All right. I'm curious you
- 11:28had to go down and cover the press conference. I saw some of your
- 11:31tweets from there. What's the feeling, what was your overall response, what
- 11:37was your vibe about how fans feel about those new unis. Well, you
- 11:41know, Andy, you know me, we've had this discussion. Part of
- 11:45me thinks if you post something on social media that says I love puppies and
- 11:50rainbows, you'll get crushed. You know, by a certain segment. Puppies
- 11:56are overrated. Yeah see, but by their math, they think the majority
- 12:03of the people are okay with it and like it. Andy, And I'll
- 12:07tell you they they used an early round of surveys to fans and you know,
- 12:15they say they got over ten thousand of them back, and the majority
- 12:20of those surveys wanted the sort of to keep some combination of the current blue,
- 12:30you know, or the blue that's been in the uniform since the last
- 12:33change. So this notion there was this ground swell to the team to go
- 12:37throwback totally. The team says, at least that's not true that they're ten
- 12:43thousand surveys, that they did leaned more towards the uniform they've had. So
- 12:50I think They've done the best they could to make as many combinations as possible.
- 12:58I think with ten combinations, they feel like one of those ten will
- 13:01make at least most fans happy at some point. Nothing with orange pants,
- 13:07Leggy pants, burn the orngepants. Jeffle is very telling to me that you
- 13:15know ten combinations, It's like, well, one of these will hit with
- 13:18most people. So here we go. I'll have at it. Jeff Legweald.
- 13:22The top one hundred is out right now at ESPN dot com. By
- 13:26the way, Leggy, Marvin Harrison number one, Molik Neighbors number two,
- 13:31Brock Bauers number three, Roma dunes A number four, Caleb Williams five,
- 13:35Jadeen Daniels six. All every year from Jeff Lagwald is that's a fantasy football
- 13:41world. Everybody's overrating these guys and nothing but skill position talent in the top
- 13:48six for Jeff Legwell, come on, man, where's the centers, where's
- 13:52the tackles, where's the d tackles? Leggy, get some meat and potatoes
- 13:56football players in there. You know, typical name, you know you cut
- 14:01you cut the story off seven. Tackle. You know you go to number
- 14:07seven, You got to tackle seven? All the way down at seven.
- 14:11Man, I remember the last tackle I had in the top three, probably
- 14:16Joe Thomas. I can't remember. Now, I'd have to go back and
- 14:20look, going to old school. Right there, turn your mic gun.
- 14:24What about the dude the Chiefs took number one overall? Who was that guy?
- 14:30Remember him? Right? Tackle Fisher? Eric Fisher? Yeah? There
- 14:33you go? What about him? I had him up there? He would
- 14:35I don't think he was one. It'd be hard for seven now these guys
- 14:41are. This year is a weird board. Uh you know, I don't
- 14:46have either quarterback ranked with the grade I had on C. J. Stroud,
- 14:50But the board's not as strong. Well, great top Robinson at number
- 14:56twelve, by the way, shop Robin, Who was that you brought up?
- 15:00McConkie, Oh, Laddi McConkie. Is that Phil mcconkey's kid there,
- 15:05Leggy? I don't think so. I lost in Lad mccakay, never mind
- 15:11slot receiver out of Georgia, Andy Laddi. McConkie, I think I liked
- 15:16you better when your mic was off. Yeah, you don't remember Phil mccakey
- 15:22the Giants, of course I do. But you know I've covered the leak
- 15:26forever. Who the hell is Phil mccaukye. Well, maybe you get out
- 15:30of Pittsburgh. Every now and again you learn about a guy that beat the
- 15:31Broncos in a Super Bowl with Mark Bavaro the tight end. What Hey,
- 15:35what grades you have on Bivara? What grades you have on Phil Simms?
- 15:41Uh, let me go get let me go get my binders from you.
- 15:46Hey, dig up that real, real tape and show me some highlights.
- 15:50What did you have on ed two tall chaps? Yeah, I'll now speak
- 15:56to Andy. And what did you think of Carl Banks? What grade you
- 16:00have on Banks? Are you the seven? Overall? You're just googling random
- 16:06names? Never know. I just remember all these guys from beating the Broncos
- 16:10in a Super Bowl the last time that damn d was the actual uh main
- 16:14uniform. I told Leggy, all right, I told Nate they went from
- 16:18chumps to champs and they switched the logo. So I'm sorry, Nate's gotta
- 16:22watch crooked horse cars from now on. But I'm just telling you, the
- 16:26knee signifies a lot of pain. It was all logo Mo Kamara, by
- 16:32the way, at number one hundred, good good one on that one,
- 16:34right, there, Leggy, Jeff Legwald, everybody, ESPN dot com Top
- 16:37one hundred, go read it right now, Leggy, good stuff bought the
