Latest / Mom Street USA / 95. Training for Disney: Prepping Your Body for Vacation (Hub Episode)
Transcript
- 0:05Welcome everybody to Mom St. USA.
- 0:07My name is Jackie AKA Wishes Mama.
- 0:10And joining me for this hub episode is our good friend
- 0:13Stevie AKA Starship Stevie. And today's episode is all about
- 0:17planning for your Disney trip, but it's a little bit different
- 0:22because we are going to be talking about training for
- 0:24Disney down. Don't let that worry you.
- 0:27We're not here to put you through a workout regiment, but
- 0:30we are here to give you some tips and some insight on things
- 0:33that you can do to prepare your body for your Disney vacation.
- 0:38So that is the plan for today. Stevie, how are you doing today?
- 0:42I'm here. Such a mood.
- 0:46We had a little bit of chaos prior to recording, but we're
- 0:49here and we are ready to get this train on the track
- 0:52hopefully and give you guys some good advice for your upcoming
- 0:56Disney trip. We are here.
- 0:58We have No Fear we're going to get your body into.
- 1:01Gear, yes, I love it so. Improvise that.
- 1:05Perfect. It's amazing.
- 1:07So what do you have for us to start for today, Stevie?
- 1:11Of course. So there's a lot that goes into
- 1:14planning a Disney trip. I think that if you are familiar
- 1:17with this podcast, you're well aware of that fact.
- 1:19But there's one consistent thing that I think I hear from people
- 1:22that have maybe never been to Disney or don't go often or
- 1:25haven't been in a long time, and that's how much ground you cover
- 1:29on a Disney vacation. So like if you're able bodied
- 1:32and in a position where you're not using like a wheelchair or a
- 1:34scooter, like you're probably gonna hit a new personal record
- 1:38for steps and how many steps you take in a day.
- 1:41And so even if you are in like a wheelchair or scooter, there's
- 1:44still a lot of ground to cover. I did one trip with a family
- 1:46member that used a wheelchair and it still involved a lot of
- 1:50pushing, either from somebody in your party or self navigating.
- 1:54And it's, it's still often a much longer stretch of distance
- 1:58than you're used to. It's it's a lot.
- 2:00It's a lot. Yeah, I think on my last trip I
- 2:04looked, you know, for our notes here for this episode, we
- 2:07average anywhere from 5 1/2 miles on our like resort days
- 2:13where we weren't doing a ton of walking all the way up to like
- 2:1610 1/2 miles on the days that we were like in the parks a lot.
- 2:20So my steps were easily over 10,000 a day even on our those
- 2:24resort days. And so I thought this was fun.
- 2:27Just to put this in perspective a little bit, if you're familiar
- 2:29with the Disney parks and familiar with Epcot, the loop
- 2:33that you take, whether you go Canada or Mexico around World
- 2:37Showcase in Epcot is approximately a mile.
- 2:42So imagine looping World Showcase anywhere from 5 to 10
- 2:47times in a day and that is going to be on average what you are
- 2:52likely to walk on your Disney vacation every day, every single
- 2:56day. So The Walking adds up quickly.
- 2:59So preparing yourself for that is always a good idea.
- 3:03And I would do it again without question.
- 3:06I don't care how tired I get. And I mean, if you're like me,
- 3:09you also have chronic pain. And that chronic pain can also
- 3:12get worse on a Disney trip because of that amount of
- 3:16physical activity. But I don't think that it should
- 3:19keep you from going on a Disney trip altogether.
- 3:22I just think that if you take a couple small steps, a couple,
- 3:25like change a couple habits, even if it's not about exercise,
- 3:30even it's just about like pain management and you're mindful of
- 3:33that, it can drastically change, you know, your mood from
- 3:36day-to-day. And I, I just, I, these are the
- 3:40things that I do to prepare my body and some things that we
- 3:43found on the Internet. But before we get into that, I
- 3:47do want to preface this by saying we're talking about like
- 3:50medical and medical adjacent things.
- 3:52We are not doctors. I was an English major, Jackie
- 3:55was a music major. Please follow the advice.
- 3:59Please follow the advice of your doctor.
- 4:00First and foremost. We are not medical
- 4:03professionals. These are just things that we
- 4:06have found personally helpful or other people that we know have
- 4:10found personally helpful. And I wanted to share this in
- 4:14case somebody else was in a position to be helped by this
- 4:16advice. I know that a lot of times
- 4:19doctors provide that advice for management.
- 4:21So if this sounds like it be, it could be something that is
- 4:24helpful for you, that's wonderful.
- 4:26And that is absolutely what we are here to do to kind of crowd
- 4:29source this information so you can more pain free or maybe
- 4:35reduce your pain and enjoy your Disney trip.
- 4:38So we definitely want you to start by talking to your doctor
- 4:41about concerns or like suggestions that they have
- 4:44because everybody is different, right?
- 4:46We are going to give some very generalized advice today.
- 4:51So that's definitely a good base to start with.
- 4:54But you'll even hear Stevie and I mentioned today, like you may
- 4:57need to Google a couple things or you to check with your doctor
- 5:00about that, if you have specific options or things are going to
- 5:04be more beneficial to you depending on your personal
- 5:07needs. So listen to what we have to say
- 5:09for sure, but definitely jot some things down.
- 5:12Check with your doctor, get their advice before you try
- 5:15anything for your pain or for your, you know, physical
- 5:19activity levels, all that, all that type of.
- 5:22Stuff the goal is to get you to think about what you might need
- 5:27in this scenario and give you a starting point for how to
- 5:30brainstorm because your body is different.
- 5:32So the hope is that something that we say might be like, hey,
- 5:35you know it is happens to me sometimes with a lot of physical
- 5:37activity. I should prepare because the
- 5:40thing that I hear, like I said before, is people are excited
- 5:43about his Disney trip and realize that there's a lot of
- 5:45walking, but don't think about the cause and effect of that
- 5:48until afterwards. And so this is a like a learn
- 5:51from your mistake, you know, or you know, learn from our
- 5:54mistakes or learn from the things that we've tried.
- 5:57And, and the best way to start is to think about that before
- 6:00your trip like you are now if you're listening to this
- 6:02episode. Good for you, you did it.
- 6:06And I think the easiest thing that you can do before your trip
- 6:11at any point in time before the trip starts is to go on walks,
- 6:15even if you just do it on a Saturday or two before you go,
- 6:19if you get your body more accustomed to walking, you're in
- 6:23the habit of it already before you get there.
- 6:26And I want to say that something is better than nothing.
- 6:29It doesn't have to be. You don't need to hit some kind
- 6:33of like, I mean, you can set goals if you wish to, but you
- 6:35don't need to like look at average step count and say, I'm
- 6:38going to hit this, you know, these many days.
- 6:41No, no, no, something is better than nothing.
- 6:43If you go for 10 minutes, 10 minute walks every single day or
- 6:47just like a couple days, you're doing more than you did before.
- 6:50And that's going to help your body kind of build up that
- 6:53durance for the trip itself. Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:56And I've seen a lot of fun like TikTok videos or things online
- 7:00where people will like use like track length or of their
- 7:05favorite Disney ride or wait times of a Disney attraction to
- 7:09determine how long or how far they want to try to walk.
- 7:12Just as like a fun motivating way to do that.
- 7:14Get yourself moving. You know, I've seen people that
- 7:17have done it where they put everything into like a wheel
- 7:20online and you know, click it so it's randomized.
- 7:22So there's lots of fun ways that you can do that to kind of help
- 7:26make it on theme and motivate yourself.
- 7:29Also having a really good soundtrack.
- 7:31So whatever like hypes you up and whatever excites you,
- 7:34whether that be something Disney that you can sing along to or if
- 7:38it's, you know, different, different styles of music may
- 7:41give you more energy to keep going further.
- 7:43Or like making sure you have a playlist for whatever length of
- 7:47time you're going to be walking. So if you want to go for 45
- 7:50minutes, giving yourself 45 minutes of music to to help with
- 7:53that is always a really good idea.
- 7:55So I find that my walks go a lot smoother if I have something
- 7:58good to listen to. I find that as a former band
- 8:02kid, finding music where I can walk in step with music helps a
- 8:07lot. I also have found audiobooks are
- 8:09great or listening to podcasts like this one, you could listen
- 8:12to us while you go on a walk. You're so good.
- 8:16And there are great videos on YouTube and I think they've
- 8:18started to add videos on Disney Plus as well that are just
- 8:22walkers of the park. So if you're on a treadmill and
- 8:24you're not outside and you've got your phone, you can put that
- 8:27up and pretend that you're walking at Disney while you're
- 8:30doing your walk on a treadmill. And there are, yeah, there are
- 8:33playlists on Spotify that I have found that are literally like
- 8:37treadmill mix. And they'll say like slow pace,
- 8:41medium pace, high pace. So if you just do some Googling
- 8:44and look around, like I've got some that are like 90's pop
- 8:47music that I like to listen to if I'm going like a certain pace
- 8:51because I can walk in step with them.
- 8:53I do tend to listen to podcasts more than anything when I'm
- 8:56walking or like live streams on TikTok or YouTube or, you know,
- 9:00so there's so many different options of what you can listen
- 9:03to. So pick what you think will work
- 9:05best for you and have that ready.
- 9:07So that way you can help motivate yourself.
- 9:09Absolutely, whatever gets you moving, whatever keeps you
- 9:12motivated, that's the best, that's the best tip, whatever
- 9:15works for you. And then keep in mind after you
- 9:19do that movement, learn what parts of your body are sore or
- 9:23tender or hurt after you do a lot of walking.
- 9:26And So what I tend to do is that I will literally Google like a,
- 9:31an anatomy chart, like a physical anatomy chart.
- 9:34So if I don't have a name for like a specific muscle, then I
- 9:38can. OK, this is this part of my
- 9:41shoulder hurts. That's my rotator cuff and then
- 9:44I will search rotator cuff stretches.
- 9:46I realized that I gestured at myself because I'm on camera
- 9:50right now. But for those of us are
- 9:51listening, I those of you that are listening.
- 9:53I pointed at the top front part of my shoulder.
- 9:59Or you can Google and search rotator cuff and you'll know
- 10:01exactly what I'm talking about. But if it's a whole body thing,
- 10:08I love a YouTube channel called Yoga with Adrian.
- 10:11She has a lot of really great full body routines and isolated
- 10:16body parts routines for varying mobility levels.
- 10:20She's really good at providing alternatives depending on what
- 10:24you are or are not able to do and is very shame free about
- 10:29modifying. Like you're just you have to
- 10:31meet your body where you're at. It's not going to be the same
- 10:33everyday and that's OK. And there's nothing wrong with
- 10:36that. And she provides a lot of really
- 10:38great positive reinforcement about it too.
- 10:40And so like, I just like singing her praises all the time.
- 10:42I've been following her for years.
- 10:44Yeah. Well, and I think it can be so
- 10:46intimidating to know where to start.
- 10:47So like having a couple suggestions and Stevie's going
- 10:50to provide a few more for other things as we go as well can
- 10:53always be helpful because like you go on YouTube and you search
- 10:57yoga workout, you're going to find a million videos.
- 11:01Absolutely so. Having something where you can
- 11:03start like, OK, well let me try these first and then like, oh,
- 11:07maybe I don't really like those ones as much.
- 11:08I need to do something more fast-paced.
- 11:10OK, well then that gives you something to go off of after
- 11:13that. Absolutely, and it's hard to
- 11:14find, especially if you don't know where your body's at, like
- 11:18what kind of intensity level that you need.
- 11:21And so like knowing that you can go into something that's going
- 11:24to scale that movement for you is really helpful.
- 11:27It's something that I personally find helpful because my mobility
- 11:30range is going to vary from day-to-day with my arthritis
- 11:33pain, for example. Right.
- 11:35Exactly. For sure.
- 11:36All right, what else can we look at doing before our trip?
- 11:39Absolutely. So if you want to level up, if
- 11:42you are already in a good walk thinking habit, or if you're
- 11:44just like, wow, these walks are great.
- 11:46I want to do some more. I would highly recommend doing
- 11:50some strength training. Now that's probably going to
- 11:52sound like a lot. I feel like I can hear people
- 11:55groaning on the other side of their phone already.
- 11:58But hear me out. I used to be you, but sometimes
- 12:01not all the time. And I spoke, I've spoken at
- 12:04length with my personal trainer about their not my personal, my
- 12:06physical therapist about this. Sometimes the pain that we
- 12:10experience comes from weak muscles.
- 12:12So for example, some back pain is caused by weak core muscles,
- 12:16which is so annoying. But I am living proof that if
- 12:20you add more AB muscle work into your workout, like I, I added
- 12:26more AB work into my workout routine and my back pain
- 12:29decreased. And that's stupid.
- 12:31Like that is so annoying that that worked.
- 12:34I, I, and because, and because it worked, that means that I
- 12:37have to keep doing it, which just like is, it's annoying and
- 12:41it is sometimes it's like, it's like something like like
- 12:44brushing your teeth, for example.
- 12:46Like I don't enjoy doing it, but I know that I need to.
- 12:48And that's kind of the approach that I take to strength training
- 12:51because when I go on walks, especially when I first started,
- 12:54I would notice like a lot of low back pain.
- 12:56And I'm just like, what is happening here?
- 12:58Like, why is this happening? And so that was when I started
- 13:02to learn that like a lot of that correlates and you know it, it
- 13:05helps to find some kind of full body system or routine.
- 13:10So if, if you don't know, when Stevie talks about strength
- 13:14training, that doesn't necessarily mean you're going
- 13:15out and like lifting weights. You know, there's a ton of
- 13:18different ways that you can do strength training and it's
- 13:20really just isolating specific groups of muscles that you're
- 13:23trying to increase the strength of.
- 13:25So AB workouts and things like that.
- 13:28Something as simple as doing, you know, some sit ups or
- 13:30crunches or push ups can be strength training.
- 13:33So you don't don't feel like you have to run out to, you know,
- 13:35get these 10 LB weights to start building that muscle.
- 13:39It can be very simple with, with no equipment at all.
- 13:42And again, that's something you can do at home.
- 13:45Easy peasy. Absolutely.
- 13:47Being able to use your own body weight is is a great a great
- 13:51search term. For example, if you're looking
- 13:53for something or if you look for equipment free workouts, that's
- 13:56another great place to start. I have channels that I
- 13:59personally really love that have a lot of really great content at
- 14:03varying mobility and ability levels that have varying
- 14:07workouts with or without equipment that I find really
- 14:12easy to just get snippets if there's a certain muscle group
- 14:15that I want to work and I can kind of go from there.
- 14:18So I really love dare to be active from LA Toma.
- 14:22I really love mad fit That's I realized that I should maybe
- 14:28enunciate that like mad like the emotion and put.
- 14:31All of these in the caption or in the description so that way
- 14:35you guys can find them and if you're watching us on YouTube
- 14:39after the fact, we will link to their YouTube so that way you
- 14:42guys can just click and find them to make it easier for you.
- 14:45Mad Fit in particular has a lot of combo like stretching
- 14:50routines and then like dance party kind of things just to
- 14:52kind of get your body moving and with like fun like current
- 14:55music, which I really enjoy. I also really love Abby Pollock.
- 15:00Her channel's also called the Team Plans.
- 15:02She posts workouts on both, but it's a lot of really great, just
- 15:06like isolating strength training movements that you don't need a
- 15:10lot of equipment for. You don't need to be doing too
- 15:13much. It's really about the intensity
- 15:15and acknowledging that like if you go faster with a lot of
- 15:19repetitions or if you slow the repetitions down, like that's
- 15:22also going to challenge your muscles in a different way.
- 15:25And then the last one that I really love on Instagram is the
- 15:28physio fix. She's a physical therapist and
- 15:30she posts about like specific experiences that you might have
- 15:34or if you have pain in a specific place, different things
- 15:37that you can do to help those muscles get stronger.
- 15:41Yeah. And as we said, we'll make sure
- 15:42all of that is in the description so you guys can find
- 15:44those if you're looking for them after after we have recorded
- 15:48this and you want to listen and find where where those are all
- 15:51at, we'll put them in the description for you guys.
- 15:53And I will add, I know that it sounds like a lot, but again
- 15:56like something is better than nothing.
- 15:57A lot of these channels have like things that you can do in
- 16:005-10 minutes and like that alone.
- 16:02Like especially like I will do the physio fix has some a
- 16:08routine specifically for foot strength to help you like
- 16:12improve your foot endurance. And that's where I have a lot of
- 16:15my chronic pain. And so there's something called
- 16:17like toe yoga where you lift your big toe and then you keep
- 16:21the other four toes on the ground and then you swap.
- 16:24And if you do that on alternating motions, that's
- 16:26helping to engage those muscles. And it, for me, it kind of wakes
- 16:30them up before I do anything. And I find that that's really
- 16:34helpful. And it's something you don't
- 16:35necessarily think about until I was falling here, I was like,
- 16:38oh, hey, let me try that. And then when I went and saw a
- 16:40physical therapist, like for my own health reasons, I told her
- 16:44that I do this. And she was like, yes, I was
- 16:45going to add that to your plan. And so I'm glad that you're
- 16:48already doing it. Yeah, and a lot of this stuff,
- 16:50like Stevie said, you don't have to devote 2 hours to doing this,
- 16:54right? You know, if you are someone who
- 16:56sits at your desk job and can do toe yoga while you're sitting at
- 17:01at your desk at work, or you know, there's lots of different
- 17:03ways to just squeeze a couple things in.
- 17:05And again, anything is better than nothing.
- 17:08So whatever you do, even if you only do it once or twice because
- 17:11you run out of time because you're in, you know, packing
- 17:14mode and trying to get ready for your trip, that's better.
- 17:16Than nothing. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 17:19And the next thing that I want to talk about is kind of related
- 17:23to all of that and it's what you're wearing specifically your
- 17:26shoes while you're doing all of that movement.
- 17:28So regardless of whether or not you decide to do any movement
- 17:32before your trip, I really need you to look at your shoes and
- 17:35what kind of condition they're in.
- 17:37If they're pretty walked through, you're going to be
- 17:40doing a lot of walking. And so if you need to buy a new
- 17:43pair, make sure that you can buy a new pair in time to break them
- 17:47in before you go. So that way, you know, I don't
- 17:49know, I always get like a little like blister right as I'm
- 17:52breaking in new shoes and then it goes away as my feet are
- 17:55accustomed to walking in them. I usually recommend Hokas or
- 17:59Nike are usually the thing that I gravitate towards.
- 18:03My podiatrist suggested that if you you shouldn't be able to
- 18:07fold your shoe like in half or like bend it, it should be
- 18:10pretty stable. And that's like the tip that I
- 18:12use in terms of like finding enough foot support that if you
- 18:15can hold. Through shoe stores, bending the
- 18:17shoes. And that's what they told me to
- 18:22do. And it's funny because I've
- 18:23found really good employees, like at a Nike outlet store in
- 18:27particular, that was just like, oh, I know what you're looking
- 18:30for. These are shoes that will help
- 18:32you. These are shoes that won't like,
- 18:33this is what this is designed to do and what's not.
- 18:35So if you've not done this before and you're just
- 18:37listening, you're not watching. You're going to put one hand on
- 18:40the heel of your shoe and then the other hand on the tip of
- 18:42your shoe where your toes go and try to bend it together.
- 18:47Most shoes I find that have a that like that are described as
- 18:51supportive, that are maybe on the affordable side will only
- 18:54bend around that toe bit you're really looking for something
- 18:58that can't bend at all really that you can't just like fold
- 19:02into AC or AV shape. But it's, you know, it's hard
- 19:06out there to find affordable footwear.
- 19:08I totally get it. I'm now of the opinion that it's
- 19:10something that I want to like, invest in because you know, your
- 19:15feet matter a lot and you know, it, it's it's it's terrible
- 19:20being in foot pain. And so, you know, I realized
- 19:22that that's something that I personally want to budget for to
- 19:25avoid being in. So I get it.
- 19:28Yeah. And as far as like what I
- 19:30typically wear, my husband and I are both big Brooks fans for
- 19:34like tennis shoes or sneakers, whatever you prefer to call
- 19:37them. The thing that I like about them
- 19:40is that they have a really nice quiz on their website that you
- 19:44can take to figure out which style is best for you based on
- 19:48like how you walk and what level of support you're looking for.
- 19:51Which is helpful because when you go to somewhere and you're
- 19:54looking at shoes, it's like these all have different names.
- 19:57I don't know what any of that means.
- 19:58Like it's very overwhelming. So make it stress free and they
- 20:02will give you like 5 or 6 options after you go through and
- 20:05do this kind of. And I think that is super
- 20:08helpful. I have also been pleasantly
- 20:11surprised about how comfortable Crocs are at Disney.
- 20:15And I know a lot of people have various opinions about Crocs,
- 20:19and that's OK. But I'm here to say that I have
- 20:23had very good success with all styles of Croc shoes, whether
- 20:27it's the standard shoes or like on my last two trips that I've
- 20:31gone on, I've worn two different styles of Croc sandals that have
- 20:35been very, very helpful for me. But I am also someone that
- 20:38doesn't need a ton of arch support.
- 20:41And so for me, that works out really well.
- 20:44Again, no matter what kind of shoe you're taking, you want to
- 20:47make sure that it works for your feet, that you're going to be
- 20:50comfortable in it, and that you have broken them in and trialed
- 20:53them on at least one decent length walk to make sure that
- 20:58they're good for your feet. The other thing that I always
- 21:01suggest is to always bring, but at least I would say depending
- 21:06on the length of your trip, but I would say 3 pairs of shoes
- 21:08minimum to rotate between 1:00 because of weather, especially
- 21:12in Florida. If they get drenched, chances
- 21:15are good they're not going to dry by the next morning or
- 21:18you're going to take a hair dryer to them.
- 21:19And nobody wants to do that when you're trying to get yourself
- 21:21out the door to go to the parks. So you want to make sure you
- 21:25have at least two good pairs of walking shoes for in the parks,
- 21:30whether that's tennis shoes, Crocs, whatever it may be.
- 21:32And then I would always say some sort of a pair of supportive
- 21:36sandals. So that way if you end up with
- 21:38blisters, you can give your feet a little bit of a break, maybe
- 21:42for an evening after you've taken a break in your room for
- 21:44the afternoon, you swap into those for the night or you know
- 21:48when you know that you're not going to, you're kind of done
- 21:49walk doing the majority of your walking for the day.
- 21:53But even the most comfortable pair of shoes can start to wear
- 21:56after two or three days because you're walking so much
- 21:59consistently. So I live by the rule of
- 22:03bringing that many pairs of shoes and not wearing the same
- 22:06pair two days in a row. So I am the person that likes to
- 22:10plan my outfits out all the way down to the shoes.
- 22:13So I will rotate through my outfits to make sure that I'm
- 22:16not planning to wear the same pair of shoes to park days in a
- 22:20row. Same.
- 22:21I will literally pick out like if I know, OK, I'm going to wear
- 22:24my, I'll be on the people mover shirt at Magic Kingdom and we're
- 22:28going to Magic Kingdom on this day.
- 22:30It's like, OK, what shoes do I want to wear with that outfit?
- 22:32OK, now, now I know that the days before and after I have to
- 22:36wear different shoes. So what outfits match with those
- 22:39shoes? So I'm absolutely with you.
- 22:41I do really love my Hoka's sandals.
- 22:44I was really surprised I'd not done a Disney trip with them.
- 22:48And I had really bad blisters that were just like rubbing on
- 22:51my toes in the same spot after all of The Walking.
- 22:53And I was just like, I can't put another pair of like shoes on.
- 22:56And I was like, you know what, I'm just going to risk it
- 22:59because I feel like if I am in pain insane those, it will be
- 23:02less than the pain that I'm experiencing right now with the
- 23:04blisters. And I tried it and I was like,
- 23:06my feet feel better in these than the sneakers, which is why.
- 23:10That happened to me my first trip that I tried to wear Crocs
- 23:14in the park. I had worn different kinds of
- 23:16tennis shoes and I was just like, it was like day three or
- 23:19four and I was just like, my feet hurt.
- 23:22Like I woke up and I was like, my feet hurt so bad from these
- 23:25shoes. And I was like, well, these are
- 23:27my other pair of shoes. Let me try those.
- 23:29And I wore them in the park. And it got to be about noon or
- 23:321. And I distinctly remember being
- 23:35in Magic Kingdom and looking at my husband and going, my feet
- 23:38don't hurt and I'm irritated that they don't hurt because
- 23:43two, I've gone two days with my feet hurting and now my Crocs
- 23:47are the reason that they don't hurt.
- 23:48And so after that, I was like, well, this is the life I.
- 23:51Live. Yeah, yeah, it's good to know
- 23:54what does and doesn't contribute to your pain.
- 23:57I will say like I'm somebody who needs a lot of arch support and
- 23:59it blows my mind. I don't Crocs in terms of not
- 24:03liking them. I do not care about the
- 24:04aesthetic. It is whatever is comfortable
- 24:07for you is what matters. What I don't understand just as
- 24:10someone who needs that support is like how it's comfortable for
- 24:13anybody just because I need so much support to function.
- 24:17So I just assume that somebody would probably need marginal
- 24:21like it's just like it blows my mind.
- 24:23I can't wrap my brain around it. I did used to wear Crocs before
- 24:26they like made a resurgence in the culture maybe around like 15
- 24:30years ago. And I got laughed at then.
- 24:32But I also just like was wearing them like in weather appropriate
- 24:36times and they weren't really comfortable.
- 24:38It was just I have big feet and they were the only things I
- 24:40could find in my price range at the time.
- 24:43And it was just like, this is what I'm getting.
- 24:45And I was just like, I don't know that I want to get these
- 24:48ever, right, Right. Well, and that was always my
- 24:51like, I don't really love the way they look like, I don't
- 24:53really know. And I just kind of like, it was
- 24:55one of those things where it just ended up that way and I'm
- 24:57like, well, I'm now a Croc person.
- 25:00So and honestly, part of the selling point, not only is that
- 25:03comfortability, but having some pair of shoes that can withstand
- 25:08weather in Florida. If you know that it's going to
- 25:11rain all day when one of your park days and you're one of
- 25:13those people that's like, Yep, throw on a poncho, let's go.
- 25:16You still need to have shoes because walking around in wet
- 25:19shoes all day is not ideal. So you've got to have some kind
- 25:23of shoes that will help you in the weather situation, even if
- 25:27it's not an all day fix, even if it's just like, OK, I know it's
- 25:30going to rain this morning. And then in my bag, I threw my
- 25:34other pair of shoes or I threw them in a locker at the front of
- 25:36the park or whatever you can do for whatever your needs are.
- 25:40But having something that is weather adjustable and that's
- 25:44Crocs are that way or? Tianas adjustable, Tianas
- 25:48functional. I say that because on our last
- 25:50trip I rode front row on Tianas. Shout out to Crosby.
- 25:54I sorry. I love the cast member that I
- 25:56met when I went on the right. I rode in the front row and I
- 26:00did not realize that when you come down that big splash, you
- 26:05like you're swimming in your seat.
- 26:07Like it's not that like the first splash is the bad thing.
- 26:10It's the backsplash after you splash.
- 26:12So you go down the ride and it comes up and you get a little
- 26:16wet and then all of the water that you splashed hits the
- 26:19bumpers on the side of the wall and it all comes in.
- 26:22And I, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I was just sitting in
- 26:25water. Now it filters back out because
- 26:28that's the way that the ride is structured.
- 26:30But that's how you would start. And I was just, I was glad it
- 26:33was like the end of the night and we were like literally going
- 26:36home after that to back to hotel for me to change.
- 26:38But I did stand and wait for 45 minutes in the bus, sopping wet
- 26:42since. They did not need to put those
- 26:45rocks where they put them, but they did and all every hill that
- 26:49you go down on that ride, you get splashback.
- 26:52The worst is the one where you go into spoiler free.
- 26:55When you go down the second small hill into that scene there
- 27:01is a rock literally directly in front of where your log goes
- 27:05down and if you are in the front row it all comes back at you.
- 27:10Do not appreciate 0 out of 10. Do not recommend and Vinny in
- 27:17our chat here live is talking about Birkenstocks for like a
- 27:20plastic pair of Birkenstocks for rain.
- 27:22So that's another great option. If you're someone familiar with
- 27:25those shoes, you know, there's, there's tons of different
- 27:28options. These are the ones that we have
- 27:29found. But you know, do what you do
- 27:31what you will and what works for your feet.
- 27:34And again, you got to make sure you try them before your trip.
- 27:37Absolutely. I find that Reddit threads are
- 27:39very helpful when trying to Crowdsource information about
- 27:42shoes, especially when you've got a specific need that you're
- 27:44trying to meet. There's a Reddit thread Reddit
- 27:46thread for just about anything. But if we're looking at
- 27:49modifying what you already have, I would highly recommend
- 27:53thinking about whether or not your shoe, your feet would be
- 27:56helped by inserts. There are all kinds of things
- 27:59that you can find, especially cushion inserts that are really
- 28:01widely available. I know that my husband really
- 28:03loves Doctor Scholl's. I need inserts for arch support
- 28:07and I put that in on top of my, the existing like insert that
- 28:10comes with the shoe and the brand that I use is Skyfoot and
- 28:15it's it basically just like provides that additional
- 28:18support. It's a very rigid, very rigid
- 28:21insert. So it's not cushioning at all.
- 28:23So I prefer to have shoes that have a lot of that cushioning
- 28:25already. And so then when I add the arch
- 28:27support, it feels like I'm actually getting both.
- 28:30But if you decide to go that route, whether cushioning or
- 28:33whatever other needs that you find, walk in them before you
- 28:36go. Walking prior to your trip is
- 28:39negotiable. I'm not telling you have to do
- 28:41that. But if you buy something to put
- 28:43in your shoe, I need you to test them out before you go because
- 28:48it is not something that you want to learn.
- 28:50Causes you more pain while you're on the trip.
- 28:53Yeah, anything that you are buying for your feet to go on
- 28:56your feet in any way, shape or form needs to be tested before
- 29:01you go again. Even if you just take one walk,
- 29:06just one walk to make sure that they don't rub and that they're
- 29:09comfortable, you got to give yourself some time to make sure
- 29:13that they're going to work for you.
- 29:15Run your errands in them because maybe you find out after 10
- 29:18minutes that they're not an auction and then you're just
- 29:20going home anyways. You know, like think, think
- 29:22about different opportunities that you have to test if you're
- 29:26running on lots of errands, you know, I don't know, I have
- 29:28errand days and then your feet hurt at the end of that
- 29:31sometimes too. And that's a great, great way to
- 29:33test to see whether or not your pain is is the same.
- 29:36Well, and chances are good you probably have some sort of list
- 29:40of things that you need to get for your trip anyway.
- 29:42So that is the perfect, perfect chance to put those shoes on.
- 29:48Commit to wearing them all day, right?
- 29:50Even if you get home. Unless they're starting to hurt,
- 29:53then you already have learned whether or not they're going to
- 29:55work. But if they're still working by
- 29:56the time you get home, continue to wear them through like dinner
- 29:59time to make sure that you give yourself a solid day wearing
- 30:03those shoes around. Absolutely.
- 30:05And Speaking of things that you might want to add on that list
- 30:07of things that you're errands that you're running, I find that
- 30:11compression gear is really helpful for me.
- 30:14I wear compression socks and knee sleeves as needed.
- 30:18And I have noticed a huge difference in my pain levels on
- 30:21airplanes in particular. When I wear compression socks, I
- 30:25will usually bring them in my personal item or my carry on and
- 30:28then like put them on like in the bathroom before we actually
- 30:31board the plane. And I was like, I, I didn't
- 30:34really think that it was like a thing that was going to work.
- 30:36Like I thought that was, this was just like a thing that like,
- 30:38I know somebody was trying to make money off of me or
- 30:40whatever, but my physical therapist was just like
- 30:43compression gear is going to help you based on the hyper
- 30:46mobility and the other stuff that you have going on.
- 30:48And I was just like, OK, OK, OK, I will try.
- 30:50And I did. And now I now I'm just like,
- 30:52this is, this is how it has to be.
- 30:55So I, there are lots of brands out there.
- 30:58I, the ones that I've been trying have been copper fit.
- 31:02I, they're the first ones that I've tried.
- 31:04So I don't really have a comparison as to whether or not
- 31:06they're like good, better, best, etcetera.
- 31:09However, they did work for me at minimum and they did improve my
- 31:13symptoms. So I think that in particular is
- 31:16one of those things that like something is better than
- 31:19nothing, like some kind of compression.
- 31:21If you're experiencing something that would be helped by that,
- 31:23you know something is better than nothing.
- 31:25Yeah. And I second the compression
- 31:27socks, especially if you're not someone that necessarily needs
- 31:30to wear them around frequently. Just having them to put on like
- 31:36after you get out of the shower at the end of your park day when
- 31:39you are like prepping your bag for the next day or like getting
- 31:42your stuff situated just to give you a little bit of of support
- 31:45can be really, really helpful. And this is one of those cases
- 31:48where you may just want to run it by your doctor.
- 31:50Hey, what do you suggest? I want to, you know, keep ahead
- 31:54of my ankle pain, my knee pain, my foot, whatever it is, see
- 31:58what they say, run it by your doctor to check in and they're
- 32:01going to be able to suggest and help guide you to like what
- 32:04areas to focus on with that compression.
- 32:07Absolutely. And another thing to run by your
- 32:09doctor, but I feel obligated to mention is can you, I call it KT
- 32:15tape, but I think that K stands for can you.
- 32:19I can't say that word kinesiology.
- 32:21Yes, kinesthetic tape. KT tape is always like what I
- 32:26call it because that's like way less of a mouth.
- 32:28I feel like that's what it's pretty well known by.
- 32:30So like if you do a Google search for KT tape, you're going
- 32:32to find it. Yes, it'll come up.
- 32:34It's not for everyone, but if it is for it is for you in
- 32:38particular, don't forget to pack it.
- 32:40I'm so glad that I didn't. There's lots of tape brands out
- 32:43there. My physical physical therapist
- 32:44had recommended to me the brand OK Tape and I really like it.
- 32:48It comes in lots of fun colors and I have like child friendly
- 32:52scissors that I usually like put it in a baggie and keep it
- 32:54together in my checked bag just because scissors.
- 32:58I did forget on our trip to Tokyo to bring scissors and so I
- 33:02literally had nail Clippers and I literally just like had to
- 33:05just, it did not work. I mean, it functioned, but it
- 33:09was not like a good solution. So it's just something to keep
- 33:14in mind. It definitely helps with knee
- 33:17pain to just like remind my knee how it's supposed to move,
- 33:21especially if the in Florida in particular with the air pressure
- 33:25and the humidity, it's can really affect my mobility and my
- 33:30body sometimes forgets how it's supposed to move.
- 33:33So the K tape, KT tape is like a physical reminder to remind my
- 33:38joints, hey, this is the right way to do it.
- 33:41Let's do it this way. Right, and Anna in our live chat
- 33:45is also mentioning they do make some pre cut tape options as
- 33:48well, depending on what you need it for.
- 33:50The big thing with this KT tape is that you need to know how to
- 33:54do it correctly for it to actually be effective.
- 33:57So that's where it's something you've got to run by a, a
- 34:00physical therapist, a trainer, a doctor, someone that can give
- 34:04you guidance on how to do it for you.
- 34:07Because I feel like it's one of those things where you can put
- 34:10it on, but if you don't get it exactly placed right, it's not
- 34:13going to do anything. And it's not, I won't say it's
- 34:16ridiculously expensive, but it's not cheap when you go to buy
- 34:20some of this, this stuff, because it's meant to be a
- 34:23medical device to an extent, right?
- 34:25To help with your muscles and joints and different things.
- 34:27So just do your research, talk to your doctor before you use
- 34:31that type of assistance for your body because there are ways to
- 34:36do it that it will actually be effective.
- 34:38And helpful. I will add there are YouTube
- 34:40videos for how to tape. However, there are lots of
- 34:44different ways to tape a single body part and they all do
- 34:47different things. So you might know how from the
- 34:51video how to do it, but which one specifically might help your
- 34:54body is what's going to change. So lots of things to keep in
- 34:58mind. But I didn't realize that it was
- 35:00something that I should ask about because I thought that was
- 35:02something that just like professional athletes did.
- 35:05And so it wasn't until my physical therapist was just
- 35:08like, hey, have you ever done this before?
- 35:10And I was like, no, how would I? What is, what is this?
- 35:14Like I would I have ever done this before?
- 35:16This is not a thing I should do. Absolutely.
- 35:18And so this is just something that you could like add to your
- 35:21notes of things to maybe ask a doctor if it sounds like
- 35:24something that may be helpful for you.
- 35:26Yeah. For sure.
- 35:27Something else to consider is whether or not you were going to
- 35:31be needing any sort of ice or heat for your specific needs.
- 35:37There are ice machines that you can get ice from, but having a
- 35:41baggie of some sort maybe to put that in if that's something
- 35:44you're going to need, you know, just kind of planning some of
- 35:46those extras ahead and also using some.
- 35:49You can also use some sort of like a lotion like an Icy Hot or
- 35:53you know, any of those types of lotion that maybe can give you
- 35:56some muscle relief if that's something that you're used to.
- 35:58Again, try all this beforehand. Make sure you know where you're
- 36:02going to be using it. Give it a try because some
- 36:04people don't enjoy the sensation of those types of of materials
- 36:08and lotions and things like that.
- 36:10So taking a look at that and and considering that before your
- 36:13trip can be helpful too. And I will say, if you forget to
- 36:16bring a bag or like something to put the ice in, I would
- 36:20recommend talking to the merchandise location in your
- 36:24hotel because they could probably give you a plastic bag
- 36:26that you could put some of that ice in.
- 36:28I I feel relatively confident that they will happily hand that
- 36:32over to you. I'm so do happen to forget
- 36:35that's an option. Yeah, or like mouse keeping if
- 36:37you need, because they do, you know, the ice buckets do have
- 36:41little liners in them, so they could give you some extra ones
- 36:44of those. It's easier if it's like a zip
- 36:46lock because you can manipulate it a little bit easier depending
- 36:50on what your needs are for it. Whereas like you're going to
- 36:52have a giant ice bag and you may not need that much ice to begin
- 36:55with. So it's, it's a good idea.
- 36:58We always suggest grabbing a couple zip locks and having them
- 37:00with you anyway, but this is another use for them if you're
- 37:03someone that's going to need ice.
- 37:05Like I can very distinctly remember being glad that we had
- 37:08zip locks on the trip that I went when I was pregnant because
- 37:12I needed to ice my feet because they were so swollen after being
- 37:16in the parks in the heat and I needed to elevate and I needed
- 37:19to ice. So I was glad that I had zip
- 37:21locks to be able to manipulate and get on the areas that I
- 37:24needed for that purpose. So lots of different uses for
- 37:28zip locks. I highly recommend grabbing a
- 37:30handful and putting them in your bag.
- 37:33Absolutely. And conversely, if you know that
- 37:36heat helps your muscles relax, if you use a heating pad at
- 37:40home, consider packing it and taking it with you.
- 37:43I know that's not something that like everybody thinks about in
- 37:45terms of vacation packing lists, but if it's something that
- 37:49you're already using, like on high pain days, definitely take
- 37:52it with you, You know, just in case if you don't need it, you
- 37:55don't need it, but at least you have it with you if that's
- 37:57something that you know would be helpful.
- 37:59I also just realized if obviously baths can be great
- 38:03too. And so if your hotel has a bath,
- 38:06the tip that my husband and I love doing is going to Basin in
- 38:10Disney Springs on one of the first days of our trip and
- 38:13getting some like bath bombs. And then when we are relaxing
- 38:17later and trying to like get our muscles to settle down, then the
- 38:20bath smells nice. And then it just feels like a
- 38:22special vacation thing. We kind of like turn our hotel
- 38:25room into our own spa, and it's far cheaper than going to an
- 38:27actual spa. That's so true.
- 38:30Unfortunately you're going to have to make sure your room has
- 38:33a tub because a lot of the rooms anymore do not have tubs so you
- 38:38got to double check and make sure.
- 38:40The majority of like the value resorts don't have bathtubs
- 38:44unless you're in a family suite situation.
- 38:47So just being aware of like double check your room layout if
- 38:50you're planning on doing baths. If nothing else, you can always
- 38:54run the water. You know, I will do like hot or
- 38:56cold water just on my feet, even if I don't have a tub and just
- 38:59kind of stand with just the lower faucet running in the
- 39:02shower too. I've done that before.
- 39:04If I, you know, didn't didn't want to go and get ice, but I
- 39:07wanted, you know, something cool on my feet, turn the faucet cold
- 39:09and stick my feet underneath it too.
- 39:12So lots of different ways that you can can make that happen.
- 39:16Something else to consider purchasing beforehand, which is
- 39:20kind of our little category we're in right now.
- 39:22And that is something if you're concerned about friction or
- 39:26chafing or blisters, kind of all of that rolled into one,
- 39:31thinking about what might be a good thing for you to have for
- 39:34that, whether it's moleskin, whether it's specific band aids
- 39:39for, you know, heels and blisters for friction and
- 39:44chafing. I've talked to you guys before
- 39:46about using Mega Babe is the brand of the, the chafing stick
- 39:51that I've used before. And it is amazing.
- 39:55It was life changing. It's I know it's a little taboo
- 39:59to talk about chafing, but it, it's, it's a part of especially
- 40:04theme park visits, right? So they have little travel size
- 40:07ones that you can bring. They have bigger size ones and
- 40:09it just looks like a deodorant basically.
- 40:12That you can put on anywhere that you're concerned about
- 40:14friction and that stuff works miracles.
- 40:18So having something if you're not sure, if you're concerned
- 40:22that maybe, you know, I had even longer biker shorts that I was
- 40:25wearing and I still would use it on parts of my body.
- 40:28I was like, you know, better safe than sorry when it comes to
- 40:31all of that. And some of the like band aids
- 40:34and things like that, you can find out like first aid at
- 40:37Disney and think that. But some of the more specific
- 40:41specialized stuff like a friction anti friction stick or
- 40:44or moleskin, you definitely want to kind of plan accordingly for
- 40:49that. I will say that I if you listen
- 40:53to our first Tokyo episode, you'll know that I'm all about
- 40:56talking about the taboo just because I think the more
- 40:59information is better for everybody.
- 41:00I went into a long rant about bidets and how much how they are
- 41:04in Japanese culture. It was wonderful.
- 41:06It was great. I agree.
- 41:08The chafing sticks are such a game changer.
- 41:11I will say that they have a tendency to wear off if you
- 41:15sweat a lot like you will probably sweat them off.
- 41:17However, if you bring them with you, they will probably melt in
- 41:20your bag. So if you're going to bring it
- 41:22with you on your park days, make sure to bring a zip flag to put
- 41:26it in. We usually take midday breaks
- 41:28and I could then and that was usually enough to get me through
- 41:31except on the day that it rained and that kind of like affected
- 41:35everything. But something to keep in mind
- 41:38that they are not temperature safe in their container.
- 41:42If you pop them in the freezer or back in the fridge, they will
- 41:44re solidify. But if you don't want to get
- 41:46other things in your bag messy, that's something to keep in
- 41:49mind. Yeah, and I did OK with my mega
- 41:51babe, but it was also not all the way full, which I think was
- 41:54helpful so that it didn't like leak out into the cap kind of
- 41:58situation. But I have, yeah, seen that hack
- 42:01of sticking it back in the fridge or sticking it in the
- 42:03fridge overnight and then pulling it out and putting it in
- 42:06your bag. That way you got a little bit of
- 42:08time before it gets to that melty situation.
- 42:11I do have some people talking also in my chat about Disney
- 42:14rash, which is we're not going to get into the the depths of
- 42:17all the different ailments that you can get on your Disney trip.
- 42:20But there is something that is widely known as Disney rash.
- 42:23And I don't know Stevie, if you've heard about this, but
- 42:26it's basically almost, it almost looks like your, your legs and
- 42:30ankles break out in like a hive type situation.
- 42:33And it's just very frequent. There's an official term for it
- 42:37and I forget what it's actually called, but it's it's something
- 42:41that can be treated with like you want to put cool on it.
- 42:44Compression helps on it, you know, those types of things.
- 42:47So if you're, if you're someone who is prone to skin
- 42:50sensitivity, it is a thing that can happen.
- 42:53And it's it's not Disney specific.
- 42:55It's not like you actually catch it at Disney.
- 42:57It's just. Something that happens because
- 43:00of the increase in activity that you find whenever you're at
- 43:03Disney. It's exercise induced and it can
- 43:06be aggravated by being in warm temperatures, which I think is
- 43:10why it gets so associated with people that are with Disney
- 43:13because you're doing a lot more exercise than you're maybe
- 43:16accustomed to in a different temperature and therefore your
- 43:18body reacts accordingly. And based on the Googling that I
- 43:21did very quickly, it sounds like if you're prone to inflammation,
- 43:26you may be more likely to get that.
- 43:28So. And I think that if you are
- 43:30wearing something like leggings that are really compressing your
- 43:34whole leg, that might change things too, because it's
- 43:36affecting the way that your circulation functions.
- 43:39I find that's the case for me. Like they tell you to wear like
- 43:42loose clothing. So that way like the blood that
- 43:44pulls in your feet has a chance to like recirculate through the
- 43:47rest of your body. But like, I like my compression
- 43:49gear because I don't want to chase and so it's kind of a
- 43:52double edged sword. Something to think about.
- 43:54Yeah, and something like a hydrocortisone cream can likely
- 43:57help with that type of a rash. Always a good idea to to go to
- 44:02first aid if you start to see something pop up and you're
- 44:04like, oh, that might be what I heard Mom St.
- 44:07USA talking about. Head to first aid and have them
- 44:11just double check and make sure that's not something else,
- 44:13right. Again, we are not medical
- 44:15experts by any means. We have no medical background
- 44:19check with the doctors and the people who do so, but that is
- 44:22definitely something that you you may find and you might just
- 44:25want to grab some hydrocortisone cream if you're concerned about
- 44:28it and just have it in your in your stuff with you.
- 44:31I didn't even know that was a thing.
- 44:32And I like lived in Florida and worked in parks.
- 44:35I'm fascinated. Well, you probably were just
- 44:37more acclimated because you were so used to being on your feet
- 44:40all the time and your body was living down there.
- 44:43So I feel like it probably happens more often when again,
- 44:46people are not used to the humidity and the heat on top of
- 44:50the increase in activity, I think.
- 44:53And I've never had issues with it.
- 44:54But I'm also, I don't have super sensitive skin and I'm not
- 44:57really prone to getting those types of like rashes and things
- 45:00like that. So.
- 45:02I just never heard it mentioned by anybody that was visiting,
- 45:05which is interesting to me personally.
- 45:07Of course, I was dealing with a bunch of other types of foot
- 45:10pain like plantar fasciitis at the time.
- 45:11So like my my brain was in a different different place.
- 45:15Right. And Anna in the live chat is
- 45:17mentioning that First Aid does have little like hydrocortisone
- 45:20cream packets along with anything else, obviously, that
- 45:22you need. So that is something that you
- 45:24can definitely find in the parks.
- 45:26And yeah, Sarah's mentioning it does get posted a lot on like
- 45:29that. You see, you know, Facebook,
- 45:31Disney parks pages and things where it's like, here's a
- 45:34picture of this on my leg. What do you think?
- 45:37It's, you know, one of those situations because that's what
- 45:40Facebook groups are good for, right, Is diagnosing other
- 45:43people's ailments. This is why I'm not on Facebook.
- 45:47But yes, it is definitely a thing.
- 45:48So just mentally know that it's a thing.
- 45:52So that way when you see it, you don't panic.
- 45:54Go to first aid, confirm that that's what it is, and then be
- 45:57ready with whatever you need. Absolutely.
- 46:00I mentioned a minute ago that I was diagnosed with plantar
- 46:03fasciitis and I wanted to mention a tip specific to that,
- 46:08which is to say a lacrosse ball. And I will explain why a
- 46:11lacrosse ball might be helpful to have in your suitcase before
- 46:14you go. For the record, I did not play
- 46:16lacrosse ever. This was something that my
- 46:18podiatrist recommended to me in terms of managing foot pain and
- 46:22especially foot pain that goes like it is in your heel or runs
- 46:26through the arch of your foot. But the suggestion was to find
- 46:29something that that I could roll under my foot to stretch out and
- 46:32massage those muscles. They actually initially
- 46:34recommended a frozen water bottle, which is great.
- 46:37But like when you're on a vacation, the room fridge is
- 46:40probably not going to get cold enough for that to be helpful.
- 46:43And I also didn't totally love the sensation of like having
- 46:48something wet on my foot because they were recommending I do it
- 46:50like in the middle of the work day and like leave it in the
- 46:52work freezer. And I'm just like, so you're
- 46:54telling me I have to take my sock off in the break room and
- 46:57put like, I'm not doing this? And So what I ended up doing,
- 47:03you can use a tennis ball as well, but I found that lacrosse
- 47:05balls are just a little sturdier.
- 47:09And I found a lacrosse ball at Dick's Sporting Goods for $4.00,
- 47:12very cheap. I've had it for maybe like, I
- 47:14don't know, 10 years now or something and it's great.
- 47:18And I use it to work out the knots in my back too.
- 47:21But it basically is like it's self massage.
- 47:24Essentially you're applying specific pressure to those
- 47:28muscles to help them kind of loosen up.
- 47:31And I will use this in the morning on trip days to kind of
- 47:35wake up my foot muscles. I mentioned toe yoga before as
- 47:38another way to wake up my toe muscles.
- 47:40I just love that term. Toe yoga, yes.
- 47:43And then I will do it at the end of the day to kind of loosen
- 47:46everything up. And because you don't really
- 47:48realize how stiff your feet can get when they're like confined
- 47:51in a shoe all day. And they're just walking a lot
- 47:53and obviously moving in that way, but they're doing the same
- 47:56repetitive motion. And I find that I wake up
- 48:00feeling better with my feet if I kind of work those muscles out
- 48:03before I go to bed. Yeah, for sure.
- 48:06So while we're talking about feet, we're going to continue
- 48:08this conversation. We we mentioned that, you know,
- 48:12Facebook groups may not be great.
- 48:13However, this next thing I actually found on a Disney
- 48:16Facebook group initially and then did some more research and
- 48:19this is something that I've seen a lot of people recommend for
- 48:24your end of the day feet. If you get the really sore achy
- 48:28feet. And that is something that is
- 48:30literally called Doctor Scholl's Tired Achy feet.
- 48:34That is literally the name of this product.
- 48:36And it is like a foot mask. And it looks like you're
- 48:39wrapping your foot in tin foil. It makes your foot turn into a
- 48:43baked potato, but it has, you know, cooling and medicine
- 48:48macedonal qualities on the inside of it.
- 48:52So that way you can wrap your feet in it to help with, you
- 48:57know, you're tired and sore Disney feet.
- 49:00So that is something worth maybe some looking at to see if that's
- 49:04something you want to do. And our friend Anna in chat is
- 49:07saying, yes, I did that. It was a very weird feeling, but
- 49:10it helped. So having something maybe to
- 49:13think about giving yourself. We talked about, you know,
- 49:16making in a little spa and you're so maybe after you use
- 49:19your bath or shower bomb you, you know, get some some of these
- 49:23on and and lay and put your put your feet up for a little while
- 49:27and watch a cartoon or two on your TV and then, you know, get
- 49:32yourself ready for bed after. That there are, there's
- 49:36something similar that I learned about when I was in Tokyo.
- 49:38And they do sell them online that you can get them in the US.
- 49:43It's they're, I like them because you can use them on more
- 49:46than just your feet. They're kind of marketed as
- 49:49being for your feet. But they're, when I was in
- 49:52Tokyo, a friend of mine had texted me, she was staying at a
- 49:55different hotel and told me that her hotel gave them these muscle
- 49:59cooling strips. And she's like, you have to get
- 50:01them. And she just sent me a photo.
- 50:03She's like, you have to find this somewhere and you have to
- 50:05get it. And I was just like, OK, going
- 50:07to do it. And they were very easy to find.
- 50:09They were at like most like regular like drug stores and
- 50:12stuff and every time that I bought 1 I found myself in
- 50:15conversation with a stranger who was also obsessed with them and
- 50:19learned about them on their trip.
- 50:21Amazing. So they're basically like
- 50:23menthol sticky strips that help with inflammation.
- 50:27They've got like essential oils essentially that like help with
- 50:31inflammation and then the menthol to get that cooling
- 50:34effect and that cooling effect is what can help with that
- 50:36inflammation. They're called Kyusoku Jikang.
- 50:41They're lion companies. They're that's what they're
- 50:44called. That's the brand that I used.
- 50:45If you search Japanese pink foot patches, they will come up I
- 50:51because everybody in the US is just like fascinated by them
- 50:53every time they go and then you hear about them and you're just
- 50:56like, is this a thing? Should I try it?
- 50:58And I use them on the bottom of my feet, but I also use them on
- 51:02my calves. And I found that it was great to
- 51:04just kind of like catch up on the day, go through my photos
- 51:07and have them there. They, a lot of times people will
- 51:11wear them like at night, like while they're sleeping.
- 51:14I for sensory reasons. That's just like not a good time
- 51:17for me because like they're going to, they might come off
- 51:19while you sleep if you like move around a lot in your sleep.
- 51:22And I just didn't want to deal with that.
- 51:23And so like, that would just be the thing that I did as soon as
- 51:26we got back in the room. And then I would shower or
- 51:28whatever, kind of clean off and then rub my muscles out with the
- 51:32lacrosse bond things. And that was my whole routine.
- 51:35But I I would highly recommend if you're worried about swelling
- 51:39or inflammation, they're excellent.
- 51:42Love that. Something else to consider.
- 51:45Again, purchase before you go for use during your trip some
- 51:50sort of an electrolyte replenishment.
- 51:53So we haven't really talked much about hydrating yet, but we'll
- 51:56talk a little bit about it as we talked about like during your
- 51:59trip things that you can do too. But having Liquid IV or an an
- 52:04equivalent electrolyte replenishment plan is a game
- 52:09changer, especially if you are going during the Florida heat.
- 52:14And I always recommend take it and use it before you need it.
- 52:19If you're waiting until you need it to use it, you have, you've
- 52:23waited too long. You want to be on top of that
- 52:26again, especially we are in the the heat of summer right now as
- 52:30we are recording this in July. So you want to make sure you
- 52:33have a plan for that. This is something relatively new
- 52:37for me personally, but on my last two trips I would start my
- 52:43day with putting liquid IV in my first water bottle of the day
- 52:47again before I needed it and it helped me feel so much better
- 52:52throughout the day. And I noticed a difference
- 52:54between the morning. There was 1 morning that I
- 52:57forgot and I didn't put it in there and by about 11-12 o'clock
- 53:02I was like man I really don't feel 100%.
- 53:05And it eventually I realized it was because I'd forgotten to do
- 53:09the Liquid IV that morning. So doing that and having a plan
- 53:14for that is so important because you want to stay on top of that.
- 53:17Again, if you're waiting until you start to feel yucky to use
- 53:20it, you've waited too long. And that can get very dangerous
- 53:23very fast. Absolutely.
- 53:25I think a lot of people think about hydration when it comes to
- 53:28just like feeling thirsty and just like knowing that you need
- 53:30water. But water helps your muscles
- 53:32work properly and helps your joints move smoothly.
- 53:36It helps reduce inflammation. Like there's so many benefits to
- 53:38drinking water. And I think a electrolytes help
- 53:42your body retain the water. Like when you drink water, it's
- 53:45just going to like leave your system.
- 53:46And so the electrolytes that salt helps your body hold on to
- 53:50it for a little longer so it stays in your body to help it do
- 53:54its job. And I find that that is a
- 53:57benefit all in its own. But like when you think about
- 53:59trying to get yourself to drink water, especially if you're not
- 54:02in the habit and you're going to be in a position where your body
- 54:05needs water even more, having an electrolyte supplement like
- 54:08that, having a flavor me helps incentivize me to drink water.
- 54:13And so that's the other aspect to just like a not just be
- 54:16drinking water, but finding some way to make sure that you're
- 54:19going to. And so that's my new thing that
- 54:22I've added to all of my packing lists is making sure that I'm
- 54:24bringing liquid IV with me. Because I think about it like,
- 54:28oh, I'm going to the airport. Like, yeah, I'm going to put
- 54:30liquid IV in my water bottle because I need to stay hydrated.
- 54:32And I'm just like you should pack it with you too.
- 54:36And it honestly, it helps with my kids.
- 54:38Now again, you want to make sure your kids are old enough to have
- 54:41something like this added to their water bottles.
- 54:44But my kids at six and eight was perfect.
- 54:47We didn't do a full packet with them.
- 54:50A lot of those do have sugar added.
- 54:52So you need to take a look. Depending on what your needs
- 54:55are. They have some sugar free
- 54:56options. There's some that don't, but we
- 54:59would just split one between my kids in the morning.
- 55:02That way they just got half of the packet in their 24 oz.
- 55:05A wall of that was full of water and we would do the same for
- 55:09them. We would start them off with a
- 55:10little bit of extra liquid IV and then usually for them, we
- 55:15would get them either a like a power eater, Gatorade or
- 55:18something for like dinner time. And if we couldn't, then we
- 55:21would have a liquid IV packet with us and we would give them
- 55:24more of that. So it just again, it's really
- 55:26helpful. That flavor is huge because it
- 55:29just felt like juice then to my kids and they were like cool, we
- 55:31get juice in our water bottles. So there's lots of options.
- 55:36And if you're not someone that can do the powdery drink,
- 55:39totally get that. That was me for the longest
- 55:42time. It wasn't until recently.
- 55:44And even then when I do a 24 oz water bottle, I only use half
- 55:49because I don't like overly flavored things in my water.
- 55:53I'm just and I don't like the texture.
- 55:55If it's got any texture, I'm out.
- 55:57I can't do it. There are other natural ways
- 55:59that you can get electrolytes too.
- 56:01So if if the powder liquid IV thing is like a total no go,
- 56:05there's lots of other options that you can do.
- 56:07So just look into some sort of an electrolyte replenishment for
- 56:11your trip. Absolutely.
- 56:14We're now going to move into things that you can.
- 56:16You should keep in mind during your trip thus far, we've talked
- 56:19about all the things that you should do before you go.
- 56:22But now that now that you're there, now that you're all
- 56:24excited and happy to be there. If you do start to feel in pain
- 56:28or if you know that you might preemptively think back to the
- 56:32walks that you took, if you took them.
- 56:33And I want you to use whatever stretching and flexibility that
- 56:37you did at the beginning and at the end of the day.
- 56:40I also love stretching while waiting in lines, especially if
- 56:43there's like a herb or something that I can like stretch my
- 56:46calves out on and like put like my toes on something and then
- 56:49like let my heel hang down. So I'm getting that stretch that
- 56:52personally like helps me manage my pain.
- 56:54And it also wakes me up. Like if I'm starting to like
- 56:57feel kind of tired in the Florida heat, stretching just
- 57:00like, oh right, I'm awake, I'm alive, I'm excited to be here.
- 57:04You know, just all kinds of stretches I find really helpful
- 57:08to kind of help manage that and be mindful of your body.
- 57:12And it's the way to check in with your body too and see how
- 57:15am I feeling? Do I need to take painkillers
- 57:18and and kind of go from there? Yeah, that can be really
- 57:21helpful. And especially if you've got
- 57:23maybe younger, older kids that think that they don't need to do
- 57:27those types of things, you know, helping them and setting the
- 57:31example for your children of like, cool, we're going to
- 57:35stretch our feet out and we're going to, you know, roll our
- 57:38ankles around and our wrists around and kind of make it fun.
- 57:41So that way you're all doing it together.
- 57:42But it's just testing out because a lot of kids, even in
- 57:46elementary school, they don't necessarily understand muscle
- 57:49pain or joint pain. And you may run into that in the
- 57:53Disney parks. You know, my oldest is just
- 57:56starting to do like competitive gymnastics, you know, practices
- 58:00and workouts. And he's like, oh, my, this
- 58:02muscle feet, you know, my shoulder hurts.
- 58:03I'm like, OK, well, is it your muscle or is it your bone or is
- 58:06it? And, you know, trying to get
- 58:08them to understand that too can be a little bit of a process.
- 58:11So kind of showing them the stretches that they can maybe do
- 58:15to help too. Whether it's teenagers that
- 58:18aren't going to want to do it but really need to do it or
- 58:21younger kids that don't know how to do it.
- 58:23You, you got to be that person for them.
- 58:25Especially at the end of the day, you know, if they're tired
- 58:28and maybe kind of cranky and whiny, like check in with them
- 58:31because like they may not realize that that's what they're
- 58:33experiencing because they don't have a name for it.
- 58:36I do want to go over some muscle groups that I find are
- 58:39beneficial to stretch. So like if you didn't, if you're
- 58:41not in a routine of doing that of like checking in with your
- 58:44body, there are lots of different stretching routines
- 58:47that you could just like pull up in your hotel room if you find
- 58:49that this is something that you need.
- 58:50Like the channels that I mentioned earlier, but they're
- 58:53the four main like muscles that I will stretch that I find are
- 58:57really aggravated by a lot of walking.
- 58:59And I think it's common for a lot of people or calf stretches
- 59:02like I just mentioned, where you can Google a standing calf
- 59:05stretch. But there are two ways to kind
- 59:08of do it, like I mentioned, like putting your toes on the top of
- 59:11a curb and letting your heel hang down.
- 59:13Or like doing this on like the bottom step of a set of stairs.
- 59:16And that way you've got a railing to hold on to if you
- 59:19have balance issues. Or you can do a lunge and push
- 59:22up against a wall and then that back leg in the lunge is the one
- 59:26that should feel the calf stretch.
- 59:28The second one being quad stretches specifically where you
- 59:32stand on one leg and hold your foot behind your butt.
- 59:36If you have balance issues, you can definitely do this in your
- 59:38hotel room, like laying down on side on one of your sides and
- 59:42then roll over and do the other side.
- 59:44I find this one particularly helpful at midday breaks.
- 59:47So like we come back and we like take a nap or whatever.
- 59:50That's the main thing. I'm like, OK, I got to check in.
- 59:53Same thing with a forward bend for your hamstrings, so either
- 59:58standing or sitting and trying to touch your toes.
- 1:00:02I like doing this one leg at a time from a standing position
- 1:00:05because I'm able to isolate those muscles a little better.
- 1:00:07And I, that's something that I end up doing like when I'm
- 1:00:10waiting in lines again, like if there's something for me to put
- 1:00:12my foot on, like you can bet that I'm stretching my
- 1:00:15hamstrings because I think that it's connected to my back pain
- 1:00:18too. Jackie can vouch that I've been
- 1:00:20doing this for like 10 years before.
- 1:00:24And it's it's also just like a fidgety thing in a way to
- 1:00:26entertain myself while I'm waiting in line.
- 1:00:29But I find that when I am doing some kind of forward bend, I'm
- 1:00:33noticing that my back is also tight.
- 1:00:35And so that helps kind of wake up those muscles and help me
- 1:00:38determine whether or not I need to do more stretches.
- 1:00:41And then the last. One quick reminder before you go
- 1:00:43on to that, your quad is the top part of your leg on top.
- 1:00:49Your hamstring is the top part of your leg on the underside.
- 1:00:52So depending on again, Google your anatomy and make sure you
- 1:00:56know which muscles you're trying to stretch with which stretches.
- 1:00:59But just a quick reminder. Yes, if another way to put it,
- 1:01:03if you are looking at your knee, the quad is what is on the front
- 1:01:09of the knee and connected to the front of the knee and the
- 1:01:12hamstring is behind like under your butt and connects like
- 1:01:15through the back of your knee. And the last one now that I've
- 1:01:19just mentioned your butt is the piriformis stretch.
- 1:01:23I used its government name, but it's basically like a glute
- 1:01:27stretch. It's a specific muscle.
- 1:01:29You might also know this as a Figure 4 stretch where you're
- 1:01:32basically making the number four with your legs.
- 1:01:35You can do it while you're laying down and kind of like
- 1:01:38curl your body up in a ball or you can do it while you're
- 1:01:40sitting in a chair. I find that I do it like when we
- 1:01:43are waiting for a show to start in a theater.
- 1:01:45I and I'm going to describe the stretch, but it's easy enough to
- 1:01:48do while you're in a theater and hanging out.
- 1:01:51You're basically just going to put one ankle on top of your
- 1:01:54other bent knee and kind of lean forward and that makes that
- 1:01:58shape of a four. And if you had the leg that your
- 1:02:02ankle is resting on stretched out, then you're getting that
- 1:02:04full 4 shape. If you Google a Figure 4
- 1:02:07stretch, it's absolutely going to come up.
- 1:02:09That's a muscle that I don't realize is tight until I go to
- 1:02:12stretch it. And I'm just like, oh, OK, hello
- 1:02:15there. And I, I, I find that especially
- 1:02:18that helps with any kind of like back tightness as well because
- 1:02:21it's all, it's all connected. The next tip that I would
- 1:02:24suggest is probably the most self-explanatory one, which is
- 1:02:28to say take painkillers as you needed.
- 1:02:31My guess is that you probably have an idea of what painkillers
- 1:02:34do or don't work for you. But, and I guess this should
- 1:02:38have maybe been included in the prep part of your trip, but
- 1:02:42there are some topical alternatives for some pain.
- 1:02:45I know that we mentioned the the icy hot like cream, but there
- 1:02:51are topical alternatives like Voltaren.
- 1:02:53This is something that other lovely hub Co host Duck
- 1:02:57suggested for arthritis pain. I also have arthritis and I want
- 1:03:03to try it the next time that I have a flare up that it's
- 1:03:05targeted. Because that's the thing with
- 1:03:07painkillers, you can't really control where it's going to go.
- 1:03:10Your brain kind of decides like this is where the painkiller
- 1:03:14stuff is going to be affected. I listen you, you're not here
- 1:03:18for the explanation of the science behind painkillers.
- 1:03:21I, you know, it's a trust the process kind of thing, but
- 1:03:25that's what's appealing to me about having a topical
- 1:03:29alternative is that it's like a targeted approach to wherever
- 1:03:32you're experiencing pain. At least that's my assumption
- 1:03:35based on what I know of science if I was an English major.
- 1:03:41Well, and if you are someone that is going to plan to take
- 1:03:44painkillers, do just a quick little bit of research to figure
- 1:03:48out which ones are better for you because some are better for
- 1:03:50like joint pain and some are better for inflammation and some
- 1:03:53are better for muscle pain. So like do just a quick
- 1:03:56research. There's a couple different kinds
- 1:03:58out there. Again, I'm not going into that
- 1:04:00because that is not my lane and I'm a stay in my lane, but you
- 1:04:04should make that your lane if you're going to be taking them
- 1:04:06to make sure that you know what you're putting in your body and
- 1:04:09whether or not it's going to help.
- 1:04:10And again, that may be a conversation with your doctor.
- 1:04:12That would be a good idea. Yes, especially, especially if
- 1:04:15you've got other underlying issues.
- 1:04:17I in a conversation with my cardiologist, he was
- 1:04:20recommending Tylenol of the alternatives because it's easier
- 1:04:23on your heart. And so if you've got other
- 1:04:24things going on, you know, that means that's going to change how
- 1:04:27you manage, you know, the pain levels in the other parts of
- 1:04:30your body. Yes, for sure.
- 1:04:32I'm so continuing our conversation about what to do
- 1:04:34during your trip is something we've already talked about,
- 1:04:37which is to hydrate. So again, we're going to talk
- 1:04:40about you need to hydrate and you need to hydrate with
- 1:04:42something that's more than just water.
- 1:04:44So some form of electrolytes. You've really got to make sure.
- 1:04:48Now I will say if it's cooler or if you're like Disneyland has
- 1:04:53much milder temperatures, you may not need it as frequently.
- 1:04:56I do still suggest having it though because it's it's always
- 1:05:00going to help your body in those situations where you need to be
- 1:05:03drinking extra water. And you don't necessarily
- 1:05:06realize that you needed it until after you've had it.
- 1:05:09And you're just like, oh, wow, I feel better.
- 1:05:11That's how I feel. Because like salt, like having
- 1:05:14something that's really salty is one way to kind of help your
- 1:05:16body retain that water. And I love French fries.
- 1:05:21If there's one thing to know about me that's like, my main
- 1:05:24food group is French fries. And I did not realize the way
- 1:05:28that I had kind of been like self medicating my own hydration
- 1:05:31needs because I would eat fries all the time and I would feel
- 1:05:35great. And I, I know now, now that I
- 1:05:37know more about myself and that I'm borderline like I'm
- 1:05:40borderline pop's candidate, that the salt was just like doing the
- 1:05:44most and just like a plus give salt a raise.
- 1:05:48It's doing great things for me personally.
- 1:05:50And I noticed on our most recent trip in Epcot, I personally love
- 1:05:53the chips, the slash fries. Obviously, depending on which
- 1:05:59version of English that you're familiar with, the in the UK
- 1:06:02pavilion are a just like excellent and tasty.
- 1:06:06But at like 4:00 one day I had them and after I finished them,
- 1:06:11I was just like, wow, I suddenly have a ton of energy.
- 1:06:15I feel great, what are we going to do next?
- 1:06:17And I was just like, that was just because I had salt, like I
- 1:06:20didn't have caffeine, I didn't eat anything.
- 1:06:21I was just like, OK, duly noted. So there's lots of strategies to
- 1:06:26make sure that you're staying hydrated.
- 1:06:28Figure out what works for you. We're just adding this here as a
- 1:06:31reminder to do it once. You're there.
- 1:06:35Salty popcorn and Mickey pretzels with salt are also
- 1:06:38great alternatives to that if you like.
- 1:06:40I can only handle so many French fries before it becomes a potato
- 1:06:43texture nightmare for me, so I opt for salty popcorn and Mickey
- 1:06:48pretzels. So.
- 1:06:50Duly noted to not take Jackie to potato land with Boosie.
- 1:06:54But I like, I'll go to potato land.
- 1:06:57I just won't eat all the potatoes.
- 1:07:02OK, so I think that sums up during the trip, just again, not
- 1:07:06every single thing that we can possibly mention, but just our
- 1:07:08generalized tips for what we think is helpful.
- 1:07:11But now we have sadly ended our trip.
- 1:07:14What can we do to help kind of the recovery process?
- 1:07:19Plan another trip. Yes, perfect.
- 1:07:23But if you're not able to do that, don't stop what you've
- 1:07:28been doing. Don't stop stretching, don't
- 1:07:30stop walking. It will be easier for your body
- 1:07:33if you kind of lean yourself off of that instead of just like
- 1:07:37stopping cold Turkey, so to speak, You know, continuing to
- 1:07:41stretch to get your muscles to to kind of wean off of that high
- 1:07:47level of activity that you're doing.
- 1:07:50And also, if you can continue to keep up your walking, you'll be
- 1:07:53prepped and ready for that next trip when you do plan it.
- 1:07:56Absolutely, I will say that like obviously rest is really
- 1:08:00important, but if I like, I don't want to say that there's a
- 1:08:04thing is too much rest, but I've learned that if I don't do some
- 1:08:08gentle movement, my body gets more stiff.
- 1:08:12Like those muscles are really, really tired because you just
- 1:08:15did a lot. And so obviously you don't need
- 1:08:17to keep that pace up, you know, but like think about yoga with
- 1:08:20Adrian or like some other kind of like gentle activity or like
- 1:08:23a significantly shorter walk. Just something to kind of remind
- 1:08:27those muscles that like, hey, like we're here, we're managing
- 1:08:31and they don't need to just thank you, you know, be frozen
- 1:08:34in carbonite like Han Solo. Like you know, they can stay
- 1:08:37awake and everything will be excellent and great.
- 1:08:40Yeah. And that can be really hard,
- 1:08:41especially if you're like us where you have a really long car
- 1:08:43ride after the trip. And that's where some of those,
- 1:08:46even just stretching, making sure you're taking breaks in the
- 1:08:49car and not driving too long at a time, that's good no matter
- 1:08:52where you're going to or coming from.
- 1:08:55All of those types of things are always really, really good to,
- 1:08:58to make sure you're doing as you leave.
- 1:09:02That's why I find the, the compression gear and the KT tape
- 1:09:05particularly helpful because then it's like, oh, when I do
- 1:09:08move again, it like helps my muscles that are really tired
- 1:09:11remember that, like this is what we're supposed to do.
- 1:09:15And and that's when you know, it's, it's great to have those
- 1:09:18on hand. Hydration also really helps
- 1:09:21recovery. What hydration?
- 1:09:23OK, you're mentioning it again. That is just.
- 1:09:25Crazy. It's like we, it's like it's
- 1:09:27really important or something. I don't know, I guess, I guess
- 1:09:30it's something that we should maybe do, but it, you know what
- 1:09:33helps with the inflammation? Like we said before, it's
- 1:09:36obviously hydrate all the time. If you're listening to us right
- 1:09:38now, this is my passive aggressive, maybe aggressive
- 1:09:42reminder to go take a drink of water or maybe think about the
- 1:09:45last time that you did and like, or like get, eat some food that
- 1:09:49is heavy in water. Like, I don't know, I fruit, I
- 1:09:51guess, but like maybe put some chocolate on the fruit so it's
- 1:09:53more exciting. I don't know.
- 1:09:55I'm not telling you you have to eat healthy.
- 1:09:57I'm just saying you got to hydrate like that's, that's eat
- 1:10:00what your body needs and your body needs water in some form,
- 1:10:03some form. So, and again, take painkillers
- 1:10:07as needed, continue to stretch and if you keep up with that,
- 1:10:12you're going to be really prepared for the next trip that
- 1:10:15you take. I'm very excited for you.
- 1:10:17I saw meme recently, or maybe not a meme because it was a text
- 1:10:20post that was just like, what's the worst ride at Disney?
- 1:10:24The ride home The ride home is the worst ride at Disney and I
- 1:10:28stand by that. And you know, if you keep this
- 1:10:31up until the trip after your next trip, then you we've done
- 1:10:36our jobs, which is to inform you and give you information to make
- 1:10:41your trips better. So Hooray, we all did it
- 1:10:43together. Look at us go we did the thing.
- 1:10:47Hooray. So yes, that is our kind of our
- 1:10:50overview and our best shortened version of all of the things
- 1:10:57that you can do without also like taking you into again, like
- 1:11:01a full stretching class. We don't need to do that.
- 1:11:04You are capable of doing that on your own.
- 1:11:07We believe in you. You can do it, I trust.
- 1:11:09Your ability to Google, Yes I do.
- 1:11:12And you know, if you're someone that's like, I need more help,
- 1:11:15where do I start? Send us a message for you to
- 1:11:17help not only with planning for your Disney trips and what food
- 1:11:21you should eat and what lightning lanes you should do,

- 1:11:26we just talked about. So if you need more tips or
- 1:11:29advice or you've got ideas to add to or thoughts for future

- 1:12:16Look at that. I made it super easy for you and
- 1:12:19as I mentioned all of the names of everything that we gave today
- 1:12:24as far as different Youtubes to watch or Instagram accounts to
- 1:12:28check out, we will be sure to link those in the description as
- 1:12:32well for all of you. But oh, we should talk about
- 1:12:35what's coming up next before we do our quick sign off here.
- 1:12:39Next episode is a solo episode from yours truly for Mom St. and
- 1:12:44we're going to be talking about stroller strategy for the Disney
- 1:12:47parks. So we talked not too long ago
- 1:12:50about what was in my Disney Parks bag as a mom who has taken
- 1:12:55various age kids to the parks. Now we're going to kind of go to
- 1:12:59the other end, which is strollers 'cause that's kind of
- 1:13:01like an extension of your park bag.
- 1:13:03So that is where we are headed next.
- 1:13:06Hoping to give you guys lots of good info for that.
- 1:13:09But for today, Stevie, do you have anything else to add to our
- 1:13:13notes that we chatted about today?
- 1:13:16I I do, but you mentioned stroller strategy and I hope
- 1:13:19that like squirrel guard is one of the things in your stroll.
- 1:13:23That's the number one thing on my mind when it comes.
- 1:13:26To be sure to add that to my although I'm not really sure
- 1:13:30what you can do because at this point the squirrels have figured
- 1:13:33out how to open lunch boxes. So like, I got nothing for you.
- 1:13:36I mean, my tip is to not encourage them, like don't leave
- 1:13:40an open popcorn bucket because like then they don't they have
- 1:13:43even less work to do. You know, if you keep things in
- 1:13:46like Ziploc bags or you know, like they're just like, think of
- 1:13:50any like bug proofing kind of tips.
- 1:13:52That's where you've got to start.
- 1:13:53I can't promise that a squirrel won't still run away from it.
- 1:13:56But again, we're talking about risk reduction.
- 1:13:59We're not talking about like squirrel proofing something, you
- 1:14:02know, just weighing the pros and cons.
- 1:14:04But as it comes to as as it retains pertains to this
- 1:14:08particular episode, I am somebody who and now for a
- 1:14:13couple years now, have been really good about working out
- 1:14:17very regularly every single week.
- 1:14:18And I'm really proud of that. It took me my whole life to get
- 1:14:22to this point. Like it took me 30 years to be
- 1:14:25able to find a routine that worked for me.
- 1:14:28And I think that there's so much shame around finding ways to
- 1:14:32move your body. And I totally get that.
- 1:14:36And it's, it's hard when you know that like you could do
- 1:14:40something that would help you on vacation that, you know, maybe
- 1:14:44also helps with stress relief from packing and, and that kind
- 1:14:46of travel anxiety. But finding the motivation to do
- 1:14:50it like is another beast. And so I just want to remind
- 1:14:54everybody that like something is better than nothing.
- 1:14:57You just find some way to make it fun for you or like least
- 1:15:01miserable is kind of what I used to tell myself.
- 1:15:04Like, OK, I really don't want to go to the gym, but if I go to
- 1:15:06the gym, I can play games on my phone while I'm on the bike the
- 1:15:09whole time. I can scroll on TikTok the whole
- 1:15:12time while I'm on on the bike. And that was like, OK, well, I
- 1:15:15guess I could go do that. And that was kind of how I would
- 1:15:17like work myself up into doing more.
- 1:15:19And you just something is better than nothing is like the main
- 1:15:23thing that I would love for anybody to take away from this.
- 1:15:26And I'm really passionate about anything being better than
- 1:15:29nothing. So I'm here for moral support as
- 1:15:33much as we're here for tips. And I just wanted to make that
- 1:15:36clear because I know that there's, it can be really hard
- 1:15:39to get yourself into that kind of routine.
- 1:15:41And I just want to give everybody some grace that's
- 1:15:43listening to this. Yes, and moving your body can be
- 1:15:46as simple as having a dance party with your kids in the
- 1:15:49kitchen. Absolutely.
- 1:15:51There are so many different ways.
- 1:15:52Yes, everything counts. Any way that you are physically
- 1:15:55moving your body in a new or increased way, even if it's just
- 1:16:00minimal, it definitely counts and we're proud of you.
- 1:16:04Absolutely. Well, thank you guys again for
- 1:16:07joining us for this episode and we hope to catch you on the next
- 1:16:10episode of Mom St. USA.
- 1:16:12Thanks everyone. Bye catch y'all on the flippity
- 1:16:15flop.
